"Impressively, the team at Kim’s Tofu makes all their tofu in-house, and it’s great in their flavorful but not-too-spicy kimchi-jjigae. But the kalbi, mackerel, and banchan here are equally as good. We suppose “Kim’s Mackerel” doesn’t quite have the same ring." - Joel Ang

This hidden gem is within an unassuming alley. It's not easy to see from the parking lot or street but once you know it's here, you will keep coming back. This Korean restaurant is delicious with authentic flavors and has attentive service. Their name Tofu is highlighted in almost all aspects of the menu. I go for the typical Soon Tofu. It's a win every time. A must-visit and a hidden gem in Richmond Hill. Parking can be tough during high-times.

Google
This spot is a hidden gem. The food is very good at a good price as well. The pork bone soup was very flavourful and tender. The tofu dishes were loaded with tofu. I really like how their rice is mixed with purple rice and cooked in a hot stone pot. It gives the rice a nice crisp on the edges while adding fragrance to the rice. The downside is when we went, there was no a/c making it super hot while eating hot and spicy food. There are also less side dishes compared to other Korean restaurants but it is still very tasty.

Google
I had the beef dumpling soon tofu and it was absolutely perfect, especially on a chilly day. The broth was rich and flavorful, the dumplings were tender and packed with savory goodness, and the tofu was silky and fresh. It’s the ultimate comfort food—warm, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. The flavors were so well-balanced, and every bite was pure bliss. If you’re looking for authentic Korean flavors and something to warm you up, this is the place to be. Can’t wait to come back and try more!

We found thisbplaxe while in Bayview traffic, did a google search of restaurants near me and this popped up. First time here, staff is super nice and polite. Food was delicious! Will come here again in the future, thank you!

Google
Great little place for some yummy soups. Nice and filling and good value.

Google
Overall was an average experience here on a weeknight. The portion of the bulgogi was extremely small for the price.

Google
This is such a cute hidden gem. Their speciality is Soon Tofu and they do it very well. I always get the Kimchi Soon Tofu and I like it spicy. This time I tried their bibimbap. Very good taste and good size. Side dishes include kimchi, bean sprouts, soy beans and radish. Complimentary and refillable. Service is pretty good and I really love their plants. Whoever is taking care of them has a green thumb.

Amanda

Google
Food was pretty average. I wish the seafood soon tofu had more seafood flavour. Though there was a lot of tofu, seafood amount was lacking - 3 shrimps, 1 mussel, 1 oyster. Maybe that’s why it didn’t taste like seafood much. Prices were good though. Service a bit slow I felt like our server forgot after we asked for things (ex the bill, takeout box).

Yelp
We tried this placed and it is yummy, got the kids mild dumpling soup and they both loved it. Definitely worth visiting

Yelp
Kim's Tofu is a popular spot for my family. It's a casual korean spot booth seats, which makes for a cozy dining experience. I have tried their seafood pancake (massive), kimchi soon tofu, and hot stone pot bibimbap (pictured) and everything is really delicious!! The waiters are accommodating and provide a cash discount too! Highly recommend if you are in the Richmond Hill area!

Harriet L.

Yelp
Good food with ample parking in the parking lot and typically not busy until the point that you can't find a table.

Claudine L.

Yelp
Been here twice now, once during lunch and another time for dinner. The first time I came, the service was quite slow and had to wait for a bit (but I'm comparing this to other sundubu places I've been to before). I always get the kimchi soft tofu extra spicy. The first time it was decent, the flavour was there. The second time was better (food came out quicker too despite being a larger group). I would say it comes down to the kimchi, I think the kimchi was better and gave a more in depth flavour. We also ordered the seafood pancake and it was really good. My aunt enjoyed it, it was crispy outside and had lots of fillings. The restaurant is a bit out of the way for me and I wouldn't really drive all the way here to eat but would definitely come here if I'm around the area.

Cynthia Y.

Yelp
We frequently come here for soft tofu stew. Here's what I like about it, it has several choices of toppings: with seafood, with dumplings etc. In addition, you can customize level of spice. Another one of our favorites is the pork bone soup. However, there was one time we ordered this at lunch where the broth was not as deeply flavorful. It makes me wonder if that was just a one time inconsistency or the dish has an underlying broth that requires long time to cook Rice is freshly cooked in individual stone pot (for dine in only), which is more special and you can get the crispy rice at the bottom or put some tea in to make a rice soup at the end.

Mister M.

Yelp
Family friendly business good for children too. Service can be slow, since there is only server, but food outweighs this minor issue. Food is always hot, fresh and tasty. Those who like crusty rice have to visit.

Abby L.

Yelp
5 stars for bulgogi soup! For anyone who likes sweet things, I would highly recommend this. It is flavourful and good to the last drop. Also comes with quite a bit of beef and glass noodles so it's really filling! I really can't get enough. If you don't prefer sweet foods, then their soon tofu is also really good. They have quite a bit of variety to their soon tofu soups depending on what you like. All of them has good flavour and really soft tofu. My one complaint is that while the seafood does add flavour to the soup base, the seafood itself does not taste fresh. I personally would not order it and prefer the dumpling or kimchi soon tofus. Oddly though, I enjoy the seafood pancake and do not have any problems with the seafood meat even though I'm pretty sure it should be the same. They start you off with 4 side dishes which are pretty standard for Korean restaurants: kimchi, radishes, sweet beans, and bean sprouts. When dine in was still open, they would refill the dishes if you ask. The soups also come with rice in a hot pot, and they will scoop it out for you since it is really hot. The servers will then add some liquid to the pot so you can eat the rice that was stuck on the pot as well. You can ask them to not put in the water so you can eat the crispy rice at the bottom just like Chinese claypot rice! Tastes great added with the soup. Definitely one of my favourite places for Korean soup around this area!

Yelp
Once we were seated in a booth we saw that the menu was on the wall. For two people we ordered fried dumplings and combination soon tofu stew. The stew included (beef, shrimp, mussel) and hot stone rice. When we were asked the spice level of the soon tofu we said mild and the lady told us that even older Koreans have medium so we should be fine with that as well. The fried dumplings were very crispy and didn't require much dipping in the sauce. For the soon tofu it comes with an egg that you crack and put in right away. The lady put it in for us. I love how the rice gets crispy in the hot stone bowl and you get 'rice banana'. I was really hoping that the stew wouldn't be too spicy for us. I'm pretty a spice wimp and it turns out we had nothing to worry about. There's a 5% discount when paying with cash and by the counter there's a shelf on the side with a few things for sale (socks and slippers).

Rachel L.

Yelp
Their tofu is one of the softest and silkiest I have had. The soup flavour is also really good. I ordered their mild and could probably have went with medium. I like spicy but can't handle too spicy. I ordered the dumpling soon tofu soup, I wished they had more vegetables in the soup though. It was just broth, tofu, few small pieces of beef and two dumplings. The kimchi fried rice was good and had lots of ingredients in it. It wasn't the best we have had. The restaurant is really big and spacious. Service could have been a bit better, I wanted a tea refill but wasn't able to find an available waitress throughout our whole meal.

Angela Y.

Yelp
Soul food at one of the OG Korean spots uptown. Their soup is deep, rich and full of flavor and the mussels in the mixed tofu stew aren't the tiny ones either. The only critique is that their banchan is kinda lacking in variety and flavor but overall solid soup! Would recommend if in the Richmond Hill/Thornhill area and craving this

Cindy L.

Yelp
We have a lot of Korean food to choose from but Kim's Tofu has definitely been a fav the past year. I don't think you can go wrong with anything from their menu. Pork over rice, kimchi soon tofu... everything is delicious! I plan to try the hot stone bibimbap some time as well. Yum!! Great value and great tasting - give them a try today! :)

Chris C.

Yelp
There is a few reasons for the 5 star review. 1) price - just over $12 for a pork bone soup and 5% off when pay cash 2) rice is served in hot stone pot and its the purple rice which I like 3) side dish had the little beans which is one of my favourite and seldom seen at other Korean restaurants 4) pork bone soup was well done. Not overly salty so I was able to finish the entire bowl of soup 5) service was on point and the restaurant was cozy but spacious with lots of seats

John L.

Yelp
Seafood pancake is awesome!!! Good portion of ingredients and not too much batter. A+ Soup and bulgogi...B+ Side dish...only one refill?! They wanted to charge me for additional refills after that. My party of 9 was given 2 sets to begin with. Had we taken 4 separate tables, would they give us 4 sets anyways? Bathroom was dark and smelly...F

Yelp
This is my favorite tofu place! it used to be a chain tofu restaurant, that's how I knew about this place, but my husband and I believe they just want to keep doing it without using their names, so it becomes Kim's tofu. I don't know how many times I have been here, their seafood pancake and soon tofu are must order items. They serve Korean corn tea (my favorite). Their panchans also taste really good, my husband love their sweet beans the most.

Leo C.

Yelp
We were craving for Korean food and heard great reviews about this place. Since we were in the area, we decided to this place. When you first enter, it looks spacious because of the large mirrors. However, it is a small place. It's nicely lit, and because it's in an alley, it's quiet. The service was good - the girl was attentive and kept checking in on us to make sure everything was OK. Food is great - ordered kimchi soon tofu, pork bone soup, and fried dumplings. The soon tofu was ordered at regular spice. For someone who has a high tolerance for spice, you will need to up the spice level. For the pork bone soup, the least amount of spice they can do is mild spice. There's no potatoes, but they give you a lot of bone, and it has quite a lot of meat on them. The fried dumplings are filled with beef, and it's flavorful enough that we did not need the dipping sauce. Overall, I would recommend this place and would come back when another Korean craving hits (which is quite often).

Yelp
Summer? Perfect time for some hot tofu soup. Visited on a Friday night around 7:30 pm, and it was almost full. Ordered the kimchi tofu soup ( kimchi, beef, pork) with mild and it came promptly along with the side dishes. Food wise its average, as the toppings are somewhat small. The tofu is good but wish that was more the highlight as opposed to the rice and soup. But value wise this place is great, at 8.85! Have returned multiple times already and each time has been positive. Good option in the rhill area!

Yelp
I was looking for a Korean restaurant near by and found Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu. I have been to the plaza a few times and never knew there was a Korean restaurant here! I was excited to try! The restaurant was quiet and had great space. We ordered the GamJaTang and the Seafood Soon Tofu. They provided with the 4 side dishes. The food came out bubbling hot, and The Seafood Soon Tofu included an egg which they provide for you to crack it in to cook in the hot soup. In my seafood , I had only 2 small shrimps, mussel, and maybe 2 small scallops. There were a lot of tofu. The Gamjatang could be better. The 3 pork bones wasn't as meaty as we wanted it to be. It was hard to scrape off the meat to eat. I think my husband felt hungry still after dinner as there weren't much meat. I had the same meal during lunch at a Scarb Korean restaurant and it was much better than this. The soup was salty, doesn't have the strong pork bone broth. I don't think I would come back to this one unless I am close by. There are many other restaurants with better taste and quality. The price for the Gamjatang was more than other places. $11.51 + tax. Seafood tofu was $10.62+tax.

Yelp
I'm a huge lover for Soon Tofu, and I've been to their chain in North York and DT couple time before and they never disappointed me. This location is the closest to my house so I decided to give it a try. Oops, a bad decision made. There's literally no taste to my soon tofu. I ordered mild because i was a bit sick and didn't want to eat too spicy, but mild doesn't mean no salt, no flavor no anything. You can see from the picture that the tofu are not several big pieces but all broke down to really small crumbs. This is the first time I've had soon tofu like this, and also the first time I left a restaurant almost didn't eat anything I ordered. The service was extremely slow too. Our table and the table next to us had to take the menu and teas ourselves. I think you have to be better than this to bear the name, because I really enjoyed the food from the other two locations.

Brittany I.

Yelp
Of all my years living in Richmond hill did I know that this little Korean restaurant existed within my neighbourhood. It's a great place to come to if you're craving Korean food close by. The environment is a small yet spacious restaurant that can fit small groups of 4-6. The food portions are decent and well made. I ordered the bimbimbap and boy was it good! Very decently priced and bang for your buck if you wanna be full. When I came it wasn't that packed so you're bound to get quick service!

Tracy T.

Yelp
First off, I'd like to say that the service is amazing. The waiters were nice guys who were warm, inviting, helpful, and patient (with customers who ask a lot of questions like myself). However, I must also be honest and say that the food was overall very mediocre. My boyfriend order bugolgi which tasted fine but I had issues with my order which was the seafood tofu soup. There was evidently a lack of seafood (only two shrimps and one mussel) and the shrimps were pretty disgusting. They were tiny shrimps not de-shelled and worse, not fresh at all. I liked that they had purple rice but I also found that to be a little too soggy/soft. Overall, I wouldn't rate the food experience to be poor but I definitely commend the waiters.

Janice X.

Yelp
You guys never disappoint! Buk Chang Dong is so so so amazing!! They are super consistent with the quality of their food, cleanliness and service. Although, I am not a super big fan of tofu, there are so many other choices of AUTHENTIC Korean food that I enjoy equally as much. One of my go-to's is the bulgogi soup that includes beef and vermicelli. The flavour is quite unique - one that is not made at many other restaurants. It comes with purple rice and is a super great alternative if you don't enjoy eating tofu! If you do like tofu however, one of the more popular dishes is the Kimchi Soon Tofu. You have a choice between different spice levels ranging from mild to extra spicy. If you enjoy spicy foods, I encourage you to try the extra spicy - it isn't that bad. All the soon tofus come with an egg and purple rice. All dishes with purple rice come with a hot stone that you can add water to to make a "congee" ish soup. It's super refreshing at the end of your meal if you have room for it! Not to mention, the side dishes here are so great! My favourite is the raddish, however recently they have switched it to cucumbers which is just as great. Be sure to try all of them although they may not look too good, I was surprised by how great the beans were - they have a sweet taste! Overall, super great experience every time I come here because of the super awesome KPOP song choices and the kindest staff!

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu has always been my to go place for Soon Tofu. I had been to both their Downtown and North York Locations. I would say Buk Chang has the most silky and soft tofu soup I have in Toronto area. There is just something so special about their tofu and this is probably the only item you should order. But if you want something more filling, there is also pork bone soup and other options. This Buk Chang location is so hidden and you won't even notice it if you just drive by. This maybe the reason I did not even know that it had been opened for months. Menu is really simple and similar to other locations. The best thing is the restaurant is spacious and service is nice and friendly. Our waiter checked on us and asked if we want some banchan refilled! I do like the option of choice of spiciness by level, so you can really custom order what you want. Highly recommended if you want something homey and comforting!

Adrian C.

Yelp
Did I freeze my ass off in the cold for some Kim's soon tofu? Yes yes I absolutely did and I would do it all over again. Because I love their soon tofu and seafood pancake it's delish. If you came for good Korean food this is the place. If you came for good value for your money this is the place. If you came for high quality plant based air this is the place. Yes they have 101 plants!

Joanne C.

Yelp
I was craving for Korean soon tofu and a quick search on yelp took me to Buk Chang Dong. I ordered the beef and mussels tofu, it is served with purple rice and some appies. The meal itself took a while to come despite there were only two other patrons in the restaurant other than me. When it finally arrived and I eagerly dug my spoon into the soup, I was very disappointed at the lack of ingredients other than tofu. There was literally only 2 small pieces of beef and some dried up mussels. Totally not what I expected. I didn't try anything else on the menu but I sure will not be back for the soon tofu here.

Colleen L.

Yelp
A very nice family-owned restaurant with the best soon tofu! I normally get a combination soon tofu. Their take out is nicely wrapped in paper-based products so no styrofoam and even by the time I get home 20 mins later the soup is still hot. If you dine-in, the rice comes in a stone pot and they'll scoop it out for you and you can choose whether or not they put water in your stone pot to make this congee stew or if you want it to keep toasting in the hot pot so you get crisps at the end of the meal. Meals also come with side dishes like kimchi, pickled radish, sweet soy beans, etc. I would also recommend their soy chicken which is a delicious Korean-style fried chicken that's crispy and sweet.

Lyn L.

Yelp
This place is a home mom and pop Korean restaurant. They offer one of the freshes tofu dishes!! N my favorite Bimbimbob!!! They offers takeout during Covid, and now they are finally open and takes walk-ins. I felt extremely safe. They would set you in a both separated from other customers. The service is still as friendly and welcoming!! I'm so glad they are fully open now!!!! Highly recommend if you like mom and pop eateries.

Fiona G.

Yelp
Pleased with my lunch experience, I brought my family here for dinner. So I've had the opportunity to taste the following, all served with purple rice: 1. Pork Bone Soup Asked them to make it more spicy and it hit the spot. Delicious broth, large pieces of meat. 2. Seafood Pancake Crispy and not overly greasy. Reasonable amounts of squid. Was still tasty even after it cooled. 3. Kimchi Soon Tofu (asked for Mild) A Korean friend said this was her fav. My teenager (who is usually not very adventurous with food) ordered this and to my surprise, finished the whole thing. I managed to steal a bite and found it quite tasty. 4. Dumpling Soon Tofu (asked for Plain) Other son doesn't eat much spicy food so he enjoyed this non-spicy dish. 5. Stir-fried pork on sizzling hot plate Waiter said this was one of the restaurant's signature dishes. Pretty good but in typical hot plate style, they used a lot of oil. 6. Purple Rice was lovely. The waiter scooped it out of the stone bowl then  asked if we wanted to add water in the stone bowl. Seems it is the practice since you could scrape the rice off the bowl and mixed with the water, it became a sort of congee. (If you decline the water and wait to scrape the leftover rice near the end of your meal, it would be quite impossible to remove most of the rice.) * Good customer service. * No issues with parking both day and evening time. * Many booths, tables were not too close to one another = pleasant ambience. Deducting 1 star becoz: - No free WiFi - Same Ban Chan for quite a while now, judging from pix from other Yelpers - Restaurant felt cold - Tea refill was inconsistent

Elaine S.

Yelp
This seemed like a tucked away hidden place. When we got into the restaurant, it was already full. However, we didn't have to wait long before getting a table. We ordered a seafood tofu soup and a dumpling tofu soup. Our food came with 4 side huge portioned dishes - kimchi, pickled radishes, honey soy beans and another dish. The purple rice came in a heated bowl. The food was good, price was cheap and the service was great. This definitely warms the body up on a cold day. Definitely come check this place out!

Robert H.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch and ordered the seafood pancake ($13.27) and the Pork Bone Soup ($11.51). The seafood pancake was nice and crisp and not greasy. However, for the price, they give very little seafood. The pork bone soup is similar in quality to other places but pricier. The only nice thing is that they serve purple rice in a hot bowl. The appetizer selection is also quite limited and not as great as other places. Servers are very friendly, but once you've ordered and got your food, they never come back. I had an empty tea cup which they never came to refill. Overall, the food is decent, so good place to come for a quick lunch. But if I have more time, I would much rather go to Cho Sun Ok or Koryo.

Veronica C.

Yelp
Dumplings (score: 5/5) It is crispy and tasty ! Yum! Pork Bone Soup (score: 4/5) It is good! It comes with a stone pot of rice. In the pork bone soup, there are a lot of meat on the bones. It is pretty good. It tastes very good with the rice and the side dishes. The side dishes also make the soup less salty. It feeds two people well.

Connie H.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place because I love soon tofu and not having to go to North York for it. Ok let's get the positives out of the way first, because there were some - the purple rice and tofu were both good, and you can select your spice level. Now onto why I was disappointed - first of all, the service was unreasonably slow on a night where the restaurant was half empty. I ordered the seafood soon tofu which literally had one mussel and two small mushy inedible shrimps. Most places are stingy on the seafood when it comes to seafood soon tofu, so I'm already not expecting much, but what I got was just ridiculous. I was basically eating just tofu and rice. Maybe it was just a bad night or a dish to avoid, but it would take a lot for me to come back and give them another chance.

Dennis C.

Yelp
Situated in a little "hallway area" of this large strip mall just south of 16 on Bayview with a Chinese supermarket. FREE PARKING! Unlikely the chaos you have at their other location at Yonge and Finch. We ordered the Combination Soon Tofu (one spicy-it was spicy and one mild-it was mild...funny comment but in many places this means nothing. The fried dumpling was really good and not overly oily. I enjoyed the stir fried pork but I would have really wanted a hot stone bibimbap; However it only came in beef which I (and many people don't eat). They should consider allowing customers, at the very least substitute the beef with pork. Service was polite and relatively quick. The servers were running around since they were very busy but they were always polite. So glad we have a good Korean option in Richmond Hill.

Kiki H.

Yelp
During pandemic, I really want to suppose local shop. This pork bone soup is disgusting! Just got it today Jan 4, 830pm. Terrible never will go back again! No taste, no flavour, no spicy, feeling dry the pork bone. I think they just added extra water to create this so called pork bone soup. Super disappointed. It is a sad dinner!!! Totally different then what I used to dine in. After I got home, open it & the soup is no flavour, no spicy and looks like reused the soup and just added water in. Called them, they just said sorry then hang up the phone. Poor service!!!! Definitely won't go back for take out anymore!!! So upset!!! Definitely not recommended.

Teresa Y.

Yelp
For $8, you get your selected type of soon tofu along with purple rice and very decent portioned kimchee/side dishes. Servers here were very efficient and nice. We went at a later time right before they were about to close and there were no problems. I love soon tofu and this place is deserves to have it in its name. Only downside I can think of the lack of other dishes. Dont remember seeing gamjatang etc on the menu, but the bf tried their kalbi beef and he liked it.

J T.

Yelp
The "Buk Chang Dong" seems to be taped off from some of their signs and renamed to another soon tofu restaurant. Menu items seems to replicate the Yonge/Finch Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu restaurant, but it seems they have more menu items here like seafood pancakes and meat cutlets. I like how the portions of banchan the servers give us is bigger than other soon tofu restaurants. Each soon tofu meal comes with purple rice and they pour water into the stone bowl to make a "rice soup"of some sort which is actually a nice way to cleanse the palette after all that spiciness. Relatively quick and friendly service. Awesome choice in background music (more than 8 BTS songs in a row...woooo!) which made my meal all the more pleasant. Great place for some comfort food especially on cold days!

Bosco H.

Yelp
Been here a handful of times already, mainly because of it's convenience to where I am. It seems rare to find decent soon tofu places around the Richmond Hill/Markham unless you head down to the Yonge/Finch area or even Koreatown. Firstly, this place is pretty spacious. Lots of seats mostly suited for groups of 4, with booths lined across the sides with some tables in the middle. I've only had trouble getting seats a few times but it's usually walk-in and gets seated. The menu has a bunch of selection of different soon tofu options (combination, kimchi etc.) as well as some of the usual Korean options like bibimbap and pork bone soup. They have slowly raised prices over time so it doesn't feel as much of a value pick as it once did when it was ~$9. Onto the side dishes, they give larger portions than most of the other Korean places around. Nothing special in taste, not that you should expect anything mindblowing with side dishes anyway. Soup is solid. I usually get the Mild spice level and it's plenty spicy for my palate. There's a bunch of tofu and whichever variant you choose with it, most of the time I opt for the kimchi flavor which also comes with some beef in the soup as well. It's good and tasty. Overall, I always find myself returning to this place because you know exactly what to expect every time. A no-frills, filling and still value meal.

Adam A.

Yelp
Let the name of the restaurant guide you. Get the silky tofu soup dish (soon tofu) and ignore the rest of the menu. Guaranteed to satisfy you. Super flavorful and filling. And inexpensive to boot. No need for a long review. Just go get one. Trust me.

Juu T.

Yelp
I love this Korean tofu soup chain after trying it out at Mississauga and at Finch station. So I was extremely excited when this place opened up close to home! However, the quality of their tofu soup is definitely not the same as the other two locations. I've been here twice, ordered the kimchi version and noticed they were inconsistent with the taste! Still - they make better tofu soup than other Korean restaurants in the Richmond Hill area. Also, I like their hot stone pot of rice that comes alone with it and the side dishes (I'm a sucker for those :p). So if you're craving for Korean tofu soup, it's worth a try! Another good thing about this location is that there are no line ups/wait! (I know about the long wait at the Finch location.)

Dan T.

Yelp
Writing down your list of restaurants for the winter season? Go ahead and put Buk Chang's Soon Tofu restaurant on your list. When you think of Korean food, Soon Tofu isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Eating here though may change that. If you opt to order one of their soon tofu soups, you get the option to choose what spice level you want. Extra spicy, regular spicy, less spicy, or none (or "white" which is actually the colour of the broth, not the skin colour, for those of you who read that absurd article...) I got the regular spicy Dumpling Soon Tofu soup - two pieces of dumplings, beef, soft soon tofu, topped with a small egg which you crack and plop right on top. Very hearty and flavourful. As you make a dent in your soup, you can start to mix in the purple rice and finish it off. Afterwards, you are offered the stone bowl of leftover purple rice and water to cleanse your palate. The soup itself is a bit on the oily side, so having this is perfect. If you're not feeling soup, I recommend the spicy pork. It has some heat to it, but the pork is really tender and juicy. The sauce it's covered in makes the dish so good. Definitely a must try if you pass by one, either downtown or in Richmond Hill! A refreshing take on Korean cuisine :)

Yelp
The restaurant is hidden in the shops area with plenty of parking in front (same plaza as the supermarket). I ordered the combination tofu and it comes with lots of tofu, topped with one mussel, one shrimp and some beef. You can choose the spice level. I like how they serve you purple rice that is cooked in a hot stone pot. The broth has a mellow flavour due to the tofu. Friendly staff that offered great service

Yelp
The restaurant is to some extended hidden in the plaza so you need to look for it. The menu is small but more than enough for my choices of Korean food. We tried the Bibimbap and the seafood pancake and both were really good. Bibimbap is my favorite Korean dish and i was not disappointed here. The staff is nice and friendly. We were there for a late lunch so we were only customers in the restaurant. I will be going here again as i often crave bibimbap. Food:4.5/5 Service and atmosphere: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Overall: 4/5

Yelp
The soap is very nice. I ordered regular spicy and it isn't that spicy for an Asian who's used to spicy food. The seafood pancake is huge and very yummy. It's a must-order for me. My cousin had bibimbap and he said he liked it. It's a very nice experience. The restaurant is in a corner so it might be hard to find in the plaza. The restaurant is very clean and the ppl there are very friendly.

Yelp
Nice family run restaurant with delicious food an excellent service! Recently renamed to Kim's Tofu Because it was such a hidden gem, the restaurant was empty on Christmas eve so we had a lovely quiet dinner away from the hustle of Christmas.

Yelp
I am new to Korean food. I won't say I have a good frame of reference to judge authenticity. I leave that job to other reviewers. I will talk about my experience and impression. Kindly note that my heat tolerance level is limited. I ordered a tofu soup at medium spiciness level per a suggestion of a fellow Yelper. I noted on menu that "medium" spiciness was less spicy than "regular" spiciness. Okay, shouldn't be too bad, I thought. And it wasn't. It was spicy beyond my comfort zone, but not torturingly so. For reference, I can handle the "Hot" level wings at Wild Wings just fine, but authentic Northern Chinese spiciness is too spicy to me. The medium spiciness at Buk Chang is in-between these two. Spiciness aside, the tofu was very soft and smooth. The texture was similar to the texture of tofu dessert. Other than tofu, there were a lot of other ingredients. One of them was a small shrimp (mentioned in menu) which was too small to eat. All ingredients were fresh. The soup tasted pretty good. I liked the purple rice, too. It was a big pot of soup. It took me a while to finish it. By the time I finished, I felt really full. The ambience was down to earth, non-pretentious. I felt like I walked into a neighbourhood corner shop in Korea. The services was polite and effective. I will likely return to try a bibimbap, which is my favourite Korean entree.

Yelp
Came here with two other friends an hour before closing. As per usual, I chose the Pork Bone Soup. It was good and it came with a stone pot of rice. There was plenty of meat and the soup itself was similar in quality to other places (but pricier). It comes with a stone pot of purple rice and they would scoop the rice out for you and then leave the pot on the side for you to finish later. The appetizer selection was limited and not as great as other places. Servers are very friendly but not as prompt- there were about 1-2 other tables and the staff were preparing to close. My friends enjoyed their Soon Tofu which is what the restaurant is known for. Overall, the experience was decent but I would not go out of my way to come here.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night. A friend had really wanted to go and I was like what the heck, I'll check it out. At first impression it was busy-af. Especially for a Tuesday night. There seemed to be a lot of Korean patrons, so for a Korean restaurant it must be pretty legit. While in line I scrolled through some of the Yelp photos just to check out what they had. It really just seemed to be the same photos of the same thing... I was like ok well that's no help. Took only about 5 mins to seat. Once seated we were given teas and menus. There I came to the realization that the menu was actually quite a dense menu (meaning not a lot of menu items). There was perhaps about 10 things to choose from. No wonder the Yelp page seemed to feature photos of the same dish. I appreciate dense menus. It means they're jot trying to do too much, and just sticking to what they're good at. I ordered the combo 1, which is the beef, shrimp, and mussel soup. You can choose from levels of spiciness. I chose medium. The soup was actually really good! Not too spicy but tasty. If you're looking for a hefty dinner, this isn't it though. You are served a soup, with your chosen ingredients, and a bowl of purple rice and a raw egg to crack in your soup. Have a look at the photos, that description doesn't do it justice. The soup is quite tasty. Service is quick, efficient and really to the point. Nothing too exuberant. Great for a quick bite.

Yelp
New franchise of the BCD korean chain. Much more comfortable (more spacious, nicer seats, cute stuffed animals in the booth areas) and easier parking than the one on Yonge Street. The menu is a little larger (4 more items, including one additional veggie based soondubu). The taste is also slightly different - the flavors are a little more dense and packed than the one on Yonge, but still good. Great people who will welcome you here too, but we went late and it was hard to flag down someone to help us after we ordered.

Yelp
3.5 Stars. We came when the restaurant was busy. We ordered several of the tofu stews at our tables. Overall, the broth was okay - nothing too spectacular, but not bad. The tofu they use was super soft, which is a plus. However, service was slow and lacking in taking our orders, refilling drinks, and refilling the side dishes. Also, no one informed us that we were to pay on our way out, so we sat at our table at the back for a while with no service. Food is decent, but there are so many other dining options around that I probably will not be back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Soup was piping hot and was packed with a lot of seafood based flavor. Tofu was very smooth and silky. Amount of seafood and meat in #1 was less than I expected. I'll order this again if I want a lighter meal. If you finish all the food served (side dishes and all purple rice in the pot), it will fill you up. I'd come back to try other items.
