I really wanted to like this place! I had put my name in for 2 over at The George, but there was a wait, so my brother and I wandered. We came upon Kin Southern Table and figured we should go here instead. Southern food! Black owned! Good music! Yes, please!
We were waiting in line at the host stand to get seats at the bar when someone breezed past us and sat right in the middle of 3 open seats. Luckily, there was a two top in the back of the restaurant. We sat down and brought up the QR code menus.
Let me just say that service was really slow. I ordered a glass of wine and my brother ordered a beer and it took 20 minutes to get them. That's about 5 minutes after the guy next to us who ordered a mixed drink after we had placed our order. Not sure how the bar operates, but ok. I put in my order for my 2nd glass of wine before I finished my first, just in case.
For food, I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and my bro ordered the shrimp po boy. We were right next to the kitchen, so I could see that his po boy sat there for several minutes before my chicken was ready. I understand wanting to serve folks at one time, but it was weird having a view into his food just sitting there.
Anyways - food came. My brother really liked his shrimp po boy. He said the shrimp was juicy and cooked well. The portion was big, so he didn't finish all of the breading, but certainly ate all of the shrimp! That was the good news. The bad news was that my fried chicken was so dry. I took 2 bites and sent it back. I was asked if I wanted to get anything else, which was nice, but at that point (my brother had his food, things were slow and they were closing soon), I said no thanks and had my liquid dinner (wine).
The host came over and asked how everything was, so I said "fine" with a smile. She then said she was the owner and to let her know if we needed anything. If she had mentioned earlier that she was the owner, I would have told her about the issues. I'm not one of those people who will say everything is fine and then go off and write a less-than-stellar review. Since I thought she was a host, I wasn't going to "bother her" with my issues, so I said all was well. If I had known she was the owner, I would have said more. Oh, well.
To be honest, I'm glad this place has good reviews and seems to be doing well. Maybe it was just an off night. Since I don't live in the area, I don't think I'll be back.
