The Best Lower East Side Bars - New York - The Infatuation

"Kind Regards is a little cocktail bar that becomes a scene on weekends. Come on a Friday night, and you’ll probably find a bunch of interns waiting on line outside. Once you make it inside, you can either hang out in the lounge area upstairs or head down to the basement and make some new friends. It can definitely get crowded (and just a bit fratty), but the bar at least looks kind of classy. It isn’t busy on weeknights, however, so feel free to meet a Hinge date here on a Tuesday. You can hang out on a couch, drink a cocktail, and ask what memes they like." - Bryan Kim, Hannah Albertine

The “Where Are People Going Out Now?” Guide

"Ah, the Lower East Side on weekends. It’s sort of like if you took a small state university, placed it below Houston Street, and gave everyone a beer. In other words, it gets busy, and if you stick around late enough, someone who smells like vodka will shout some Post Malone lyrics in your face. That said, it’s a fun area, and Kind Regards is one of our favorite spots to hang when we feel like staying out late, being around other people, and possibly also dancing. It’s a little cocktail bar on Ludlow that gets packed on weekends (get there before midnight), and it has a basement where you can lounge around, dance, and talk to strangers." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, bryan kim, matt tervooren

You will get hustled… we brought a group for a birthday and on top of already paying a cover charge, they tried to only let us in the basement with a table or bar minimum. We said no and later got in without it but I wouldn’t return. Put a damper on the birthday since we paid to get in and felt “stuck” on the first floor. The DJ was good and played lots of jersey club/phonk.

Google
One of thee worst club experiences ever . The crowd is horrible. Dirty, Very messy confrontational , bad music . Extremely disappointed. The ig mislead me to think it was diverse! It absolutely not . Only gave a 1 for being nice ! Never going there ever again !

I can't remember what cocktail I had when we walked in off Ludlow but it was yummy..some fruity herbal concoction. I was attracted from the street with the decor and dim lighting. Loved the mirrors and plants. The bartender, a female with long dark hair, was very attentive and suggested 2 options after I gave her ideas of what I liked. Very cool chic. We sat at bar for a while and enjoyed the music. Wished we sat in back lounge before the rush came in and got packed but at least we got in to the bar with seats before that. We returned yesterday and did just that. I love the vibe here and felt very comfortable.

Kind Regards is a haven of good times. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable. The vibes are good. The music is fun. The atmosphere is really nice. I have only had amazing and magical experience here. It's just good people. Support them <3

Please heed this warning! There are several reviews that describe the staff and management as being racist or highly discriminatory in their practices. I can VERIFY those claims are TRUE! A mixed group of of women and men attempted to enter TOGETHER and the bouncer claimed that the black men in the group could not possibly know the white women and disallowed their entry. Even after they offered to pay a cover (a cover that wasn't required of any of the other patrons) the bouncer refused them entry and proceeded to allow a group of white men inside that were behind them in line. The racism was so blatant that several of the white women who were allowed in witnessed it and left the bar. It was so obvious that one of the few black members of the staff came outside and attempted to explain the situation away but acknowledged that the staff were being discriminatory. So clear that I had to write a review, I was shocked! There are multiple reviews like this. The bars on this block (including places like Pianos next door) are frequented by many black and brown people but for some reason NONE end up inside this place? If you think it's because of the music or the patronage I am here to tell you it is because this staff clearly has a history of being discriminatory against black and brown people and that history is maintained to this day. Read the other reviews and you will see this is a pattern that they refuse to address.

Google
This bouncer was incredibly rude. Not only did he yell at multiple women who simply inquired as to how long the wait would be, but he rejected people in like in a very unprofessional manor. There is a delicacy in being a bouncer - such as those that bounce at more established places like The Public or Soho Grand, this bouncer emitted a trashy and unprofessional demeanor. My friends will no longer go to this establishment and it is now publicly cancelled on all relevant social media networks via influencers I am familiar with. It’s a shame that we will no longer attend Kind Regards as it held great esteem for many years amongst socialites within New York.

Google
Okay so that photo of a woman in a blue dress is my mom lol, we went out for my bday. The reason we were able to cut the line is because we were buying a table, no other reason. We asked the bouncer at the back of the line how much a table cost, he told us to ask the bouncer at the front, we asked and decided to buy one, they let us right in after that. If we didn’t do that we would have had to wait in the line which was about a 40 minute wait (according to the bouncer at the door), we got there at 11:30 and the line was long. I’m pretty sure anyone who buys a table gets right in, the tables are very very expensive though so be warned. It’s a very fun bar super cool inside, the bar tenders were so nice and there was great music. It was pretty small and not extremely packed, once you get in there’s another line to get into the basement which is so cute and fun.

Google
The parties can be really fun and it’s a really vibey crowd. Sometimes it’s giving people who just want to be seen in their fits and not dance though. The drinks tho. Terrible. It either taste like water or if you do taste the alcohol taste even worse than bottom shelf. Come for the vibe but get your drinks elsewhere ❤️

Yelp
My absolute favorite bar. The Mojitos are very good and the place always smells amazing. You're easily able to get a candlelight seat if you arrive slightly early. Was at pianos the other day and when they didn't have any mojitos I made my way here ... don't regret absolutely a fantastic place

Yelp
FIRST TIME IN NYC~! Found this place by complete accident. My friend had her heart set on a different bar, but they happen to be closed for a private event. So we walked back the way we came and decided to stop in here for a drink instead. We liked the atmosphere, it was cute and not crowded. We ordered a couple of rounds of cocktails ($13/each). Everything we ordered we really enjoyed. We didn't try any food since we already ate. I honestly didn't care for the music they were playing in the beginning, but later on they had a DJ come on that was playing all the good songs. We definitely liked this spot better in the beginning. Towards the end, it got too crowded and uncomfortable so we had to leave. MAHALO to Kind Regards for serving delicious cocktails! Wish we could have stayed longer!

Yelp
Good music. Didn't get a chance to eat when i went. Good spot to stop while bar hopping in LES.

Yelp
Fun but chaotic. We waited in line at 9pm in 18 degree weather for about 20 minutes. The decor and drinks were fantastic - disco balls, great music, and candlelight. There was a dance area in the back. The bar was packed shoulder to shoulder, so it was hard to get anywhere. It was quite the wait to elbow up to the bar to order drinks. Only one bathroom too, so be prepared to wait in line. Was fun for about an hour, then it was overwhelming.

Yelp
The staff was extremely friendly and the drinks were delicious. The restaurant is also wheelchair accessible and has enough seating options (at the bar, a booth, a standard table). With that being said, there were not a lot of cocktail options in the menu, and the menu's organization is a bit confusing. The music was also louder than I would have liked for a date night scenario. Overall, this is a good lowkey place to relax, but it has a few wrinkles that should be expected when walking in!

Yelp
Bouncer took my ID saying it's fake. I said no, they showed the other bouncer. He said it's real. "Oregon Id's are fucking ugly". Proceeded to give it back, no apology and starts yelling to go inside as I'm waiting for him to let my friends in. I have been here twice and both experiences were horrible. Will not be returning. Also try to upsell as much as the can to you if they think you have money. Just to go inside or downstairs, they say you have to get a table. The did bad cop good cop for downstairs. Guy says no you need a table and then a nice girl will come saying she'll get you downstairs for cheaper. They let the group in front of us in who were very annoying and looked even younger than me. After my Bf so no we don't want a table, you let that group in, they let us in. The worse part is when you actually go in it's literally the size of a hallway

Yelp
DO NOT RECOMMEND: While I am not one to post reviews, I HAD to after the terrible experience I had at Kind Regards. A group of 7 (4 women, 3 men) went out to celebrate a friend's birthday. We arrived to the venue around 10:30. My friend's husband and his friend went to park their car and we were allowed inside prior to their arrival. We told the bouncer that there were two men who would be joining us in a bit and they said to come back outside and point them out when they arrived. Around 10:45, I went outside to point out the two men who would be joining our party, and both the General Manager (Arcini) and the Promoter (Ant) changed their respond to note that the only way they would be allowed inside was if we all got a table; a completely different response than what we were told 15 minutes prior. The venue was not extremely packed at this point, and while the conversation with the GM was going on, I watched multiple men step into the venue. When I noted that we were celebrating a birthday and were trying to get the birthday girl's HUSBAND into the venue, the promoter Ant responded to me rudely with, "Well then he should have been a good husband and gotten her a table." I will be discouraging everyone I know from going to this venue, and regret not reading reviews of similar experiences prior to selecting this space to celebrate a birthday.

Yelp
ZERO STARS. they want to think they are a popular spot but they are not. they took my real ID and i had to call the police to get it back. they're a bunch of idiots and don't know what they are doing. kind regards, if you read this fire the bouncer with a long beard. when i asked why he took the id he said "because i can". that's a type of person who you should not hire.

Yelp
WORST BAR IN LES! I am a stylist that came from a day of shopping and asked the door man if they had coat check & he said yeah. About 2 seconds after . The door man says aloud to everyone one " who goes house shopping before they come here!? " I tell him, I am a stylist, that's why I came here with my bags asking if they had coat check... He told the other doorman , I wasn't allowed in. THEN proceeded to say I wanted to be a man. So I called my uber and left. DONT GO TO KIND REGARDS IF YOU ARENT A WHITE STRAIGHT PERSON WITH NO BAGS OR NO COAT TO CHECK BECAUSE THEY WONT LET YOU IN.

Yelp
I won't support this place anymore. I've been to Kind Regards a couple of times and my friends and I have never had an issue getting in, but I see the way they treat people and it's unacceptable. I understand it's NYC and you're going to wait on line; everybody knows that. But to wait on line and get to the front just to be told you need to pay $1,000 for a table based on your appearance is just atrocious. It's painfully obvious the security guards are looking you up and down and evaluating your looks and outfit, which is so demeaning. They literally have two story highlights on their Insta page dedicated to telling people how to get in. Come on now. I do like the decor and ambiance. Every time I walk in there, I remark that I love how it smells. I believe they have citrusy air fresheners going, really nice. I love the disco balls, plants and pink seats in the basement. The drinks are an expected price for Manhattan, so no complaints there. Drinks are a tad watered down and filled with ice for what you pay, though. I'm sure if you went there for a cocktail hour during the day, it would be a nice time. The nightlife aspect just ain't it for this place. The music isn't even good in the basement for what you have to go through to get in there. I wish they would play more fun oldies and disco. The crowd isn't great either. Looks like a big frat party half the time and everybody seems snobby. And I think they let in way more people than the place can safely hold. In the entire establishment there are three bathrooms total -- one on the top lounge floor and two in the impossible-to-get-into basement. They have candles all throughout the joint, which would be cool if it weren't full of intoxicated people. An accident waiting to happen. Save your time, energy and money.

Yelp
Every night at 4am when the bar closes there are throngs of patrons arguing and fist fighting. They scream and the establishment and bouncers do nothing. It's unbearable! The should ask the patrons to be quiet. My apt in next door. It's unbearable!!

Yelp
Not a fan of the drinks or the place. Do not come here especially because there are so many better options in the east village Ambience: They had seating outside but the seating was so awkward. The tables were very small and and they seats felt uncomfortable. The outdoor seating is a joke - the seats literally touch the seat of the table next to you, so it is not socially distant. It's also SO loud, trying to have a conversation is impossible Drinks: The drinks themselves felt so water downed. I got the spicy Paloma and it just tasted like water. There was no spice. I didn't get to try any thing else Bc our waitress just assumed we wanted the same thing Service:The waitress was not great. She took our order once. She then just assumed we wanted to the same thing for the second round, even though we did not. She didn't even ask us what we wanted. Even when ordering the first time, she was assuming me and my friend wanted the same thing. It was a pretty awful situation. I came here on a Friday night with a reservation and I still had to wait in line.

Yelp
Best spot ever ! I loved the ambiance and music ! The service was amazing ! I recommend to everyone visiting !

Yelp
Went there for New Years and got scammed. Payed 200$ and couldn't enter because I was not a girl or didn't pay 2000$ for a table. The bouncers can easily get bribed. 100% would not recommend.

Ben C.

Yelp
loved the place people were really nice in there music was really good and the drinks to.

Rich R.

Yelp
This place will tell guys they have to pay $100 dollars just to get in but didn't tell females this. This establishment is a no go.
google avatar

Paige A.

Yelp
Started the night off here with my friend from out of town and had the best time. The vibe is super chill and the workers are cool and nice. The MUSIC was also amazing, every song was a banger and different from typical bar/club music. The cocktail & presentation was to die for as well
google avatar

Nico A.

Yelp
Nothing kind about it, bouncer was saying the only way to get in was to pay a $450 dollar cover and mocked of us when we said we couldn't afford it. I had some respect for this spot but now it's definitely gone and I will make sure to warn people to not come here to this establishment
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
Fun! Super packed always - great music and good drinks. However, bouncers are kinda dicey and staff can be assholes.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
***Pricey drinks, Decent night out, Lounge/Dance vibe*** I came here on a night out with a friend to check out the place. There's two floors; the top floor has a more lounge vibe whereas the lower level is more of a dance floor. The lower level music was a mix of hip hop and top 40s. It's definitely a small space so expect to be in close proximity with strangers. The drinks are high for the amount that you're getting, but I imagine it's similar in cost to other lounge/club bars in the area. Get here early or expect to wait in a line, both outside and for the lower level area. Lastly, there were a lot of people wearing sneakers so I imagine dress code isn't highly regulated.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
Bouncers are aggressive. Told everyone guy in the group they felt they were too drunk but said every girl that they seem find. Seems sleezy. Girls in line tbh weren't attractive. Wouldn't recommend.

Andrew M.

Yelp
The person at the front door was nasty and told me I couldn't get in because I had sweatpants on lol Oh I'm sorry I wasn't aware there's a dress code on a fucking Tuesday night in which the place was dead. Fuck this place
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
I've done tons of traveling, nationally and internationally and this place is the absolute worst bar I have ever been too. My partner and I were meeting some friends for a night out and they wanted to go here. My partner and I got there before them and were told we had to pay 900.00 for bottle service, and that was the only way we could get in. Funny once our 4 girl friends came bottle service requirement was no more. Bartenders are rude as well. There are a million bars in nyc, patronize a different one. Music and the DJ were decent though.
google avatar

Bubbly R.

Yelp
"Kind" Regards? More like SEXIST Regards. My friends and I were trying to get in and group with the great of our friends inside the bar, however this dude says we cannot get in because the majority of us are boys. He legitimately SAID we can't get in because there was four guys and one girl. Also, he explained the only exception to get in was paying around 1k for bottle service. (But we didn't need because the rest of our friends inside already has.) So ridiculous. Never again will I ever visit this whack ass bar and thank god we left and didn't buy our time there.

Charlie B.

Yelp
Fun place but they make it incredibly difficult and exclusive to go to the downstairs area. Other places are easier and more fun; would recommend another bar in the area
google avatar

Tessie V.

Yelp
Came across it last summer while looking for a place to wait for friends. I was begrudgingly going to head to Piano's when I noticed this place a few doors down. The colour scheme was enticing and I'm a sucker for new places. Loved it instantly. It was a Thursday at 5:30. The bar was empty except for the two girls and the barkeep. He greeted me, made my drink, and left me alone in the back. There's a few seats and a beautiful glass window that fills the room with a reddish hue when the light hits it just right. The next time I went was a Wednesday, a little more crowded but still just right. Bartender hooked us up with some BOGOs. Wonderful night. I've been here twice when it's been a club. It's def fun. But small. I would suggest coming with a group, securing a booth and then going ham. The bar downstairs is shit compared to the upstairs one tho. Waterdown and over priced G&Ts. They're a bit bougy on the weekends. Dress code. Long lines. Dodgy bouncers. If you're girls it's worth the trek otherwise, stick to the weekdays.

Carter B.

Yelp
Stay away from this venue. Completely shady. We had two wallets stolen from our table area and when confronted the staff at the end of the night, we weren't allowed back into find the missing wallets.

Reid M.

Yelp
Do not ever come here. Management is a complete mess. No accountability. The manager/doormen/bouncers are some of the most disrespectful people you will ever meet. The insults and taunts they threw at myself and my gf were completely unacceptable. I'm from New York. I get that the nightlife can get rowdy and out of hand, but in all of my years of going out I have never experienced this level of badgering and intimidation. Service is also horrific. They got one of my large orders wrong and REFUSED to give me a refund. Place honestly feels criminal. I will never come back and urge others to do the same.
google avatar

Grace-Ann G.

Yelp
Came here and could not get a drink for the life of me. Very disappointing since the music was kind of good and the place was cute. No one was dancing and everyone was getting cocktails. Like what?! Anyways not coming back. Bouncer was cute though.
google avatar

Maria N.

Yelp
This bar is the absolute worst bar in New York, and maybe the United States. A bartender close the door on my finger and half of it sliced off. They threw me a dirty bar rag to hold off the squirting blood and a cup of ice to put the other half of my finger in. They did not call an abulance even though they could see a human finger was amputated because of their staff. They neglected their customers, went over their capacity limit by almost triple , did not have bathroom attendant, and were disrespectful/ negligent. Please do not EVER risk coming to this HORRIBLE bar. I pray you don't have the experience I do and if you come here I suggest you avoid it overall by boycotting this PREJUDICE bar.
google avatar

Will R.

Yelp
What a joke. They tried to charge a $1,000 cover. I was there with 1 other guy. We waited in line at 10pm on a Saturday, so mad early. The bouncer told us it would be $1k without a reservation. We then left the line and watched them turn away another 40 people with the same price. This bar isn't even worth a cover. I went in mid 2021 after the vaccine was out and it was a great time. They have way over valued themselves. No bar is worth a $1k cover. It would be worth a $100 cover but an absolute joke thinking they are worth that much for what is really a dive bar with a DJ. I'd you're thinning of going here, don't. Spend you're money elsewhere as they only want to rip you and every girl you bring with you off.
google avatar

Kayla S.

Yelp
Adorable lounge in the LES. The front bar area is a little narrow but the downstairs music is great! Rap, hip-hop and top 40.
google avatar

GD Wolf ..

Yelp
This just became one of my go to spots. Came there with my girl and a friend around 9:30pm after making a reservation a week early. They had a table for us, drinks were strong. Crowd was lit, and they had 2 floors. My only complaint is the music was 70% techno/house and hip hop and reggae was 30%. Other than that, the place is lit.

Justin M.

Yelp
Firstly, this is a really cool bar. The reason for the rating is purely due to the horrible woman working out front last night (02/04). Security staff were nice too, just unfortunately the entire place is ruined by this woman's behavior. We asked the bouncer if we can get in as it was our last night here, he said he'll try. This woman then tells us to wait behind the other "normal people", which consisted of a line of 4 guys - which we did. She proceeded to point and laugh at our group while we waited, whispering to her colleagues as if she was still in middle school. She then said to the girls in our group "you think you're going to get in looking like that" and then laughed. This bar is honestly great. However, it's only as good as the first impression you get, which for anyone encountering this woman will be truly horrible. A shame that one or two bad apples ruins the whole place. Loads of other fun bars in the area where front of house are warm and friendly, so don't bother encountering this sad individual. Kind regards (how ironic),

Erica K.

Yelp
We were waiting on line for the bathroom and the security guard's friends cut us on line after we waited half an hour. When we said something, that security guard kicked us out. Don't come here. Terrible. And the funniest thing is that that they followed us out to tell other security to not let us back in. I've heard that they are racist. My friends said they were rude as well. Microagressions are not worth it. You're better off going to Piano instead. -1000000/10.

Constance D.

Yelp
I came on a Friday with my friends. We were all dressed casually and we went to meet with a friend at a bar. First thing they did was touch my friend's pants to see what material it was and then proceeded to ask if they were jeans... Then they denied us. The man checking was wearing fake leapord print fur .... He looked like a d*ck

Rachel H.

Yelp
Bouncer wouldn't let me in because i am plus sized. they let in a bunch of smaller women after me. such an unwelcoming and judgmental environment. go to the wiggle room a few blocks away, they are much more welcoming

Assima I.

Yelp
Terrible management! My friend and I prevented a fire that was caused by a flaming candle in the bathroom that no one who went to the bathroom before us even reported. The flame was too strong like 20 inches high from a medium sized candle and it started smelling really bad, and we called the security. The manager and security guard without even trying to figure who/what caused it, kicked me and my friend out of the bar without no explanation!!! I specifically told the manager that we didn't even enter the bathroom, let alone cause the fire, and there were many witnesses that were shocked too. It used to be one of my favorite places in LES, but we got kicked out for helping them to prevent a potential fire. Very disappointed. P.S. They have candles all over the bar and the basement which is cute, but not when you're dealing with drunk people that cause fire hazard.

Sohi S.

Yelp
song choices were amazing but something about that dj..... the song transitions were harsh and abrupt. It felt as though there was simply a crossfade between the songs (SONGS THAT ARE SO DIFFERENT). I had to plug my ears every time a transition happened because it was akin to nails on a chalkboard!! where are you finding these djs??? There are so many amateur djs out there who are actually talented, or at least competent to mix a song. who were these men??? i had to hold back laughter every time a transition happened because it was genuinely so comically bad
google avatar

Adrien S.

Yelp
Bouncers forced us to get into bottle service just because we were late to join our party who was in line already. There were women in our group and they forced us to get bottle service nonetheless. These bouncers are a hassle and nothing fun get out of it. There were so many women in the line and in the bar... it makes no sense. Not worth it. Bouncers think they own the line.

Juliahna V.

Yelp
Slipped on a puddle on the floor and busted my lip and started bleeding and my arm is fractured One of the staff members watched it happen but i think he just assumed i was drunk (even tho i had just got there not too long ago) and didn't feel like bothering to help me but i collected myself and told my friends what happened and they kept asking him to get a mop so it doesn't happen to someone else or at least a caution sign and he just seemed to not care. Left immediately i really don't recommend this place.

Cameron R.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, the bouncer scolded me for wearing Vans shoes. Then when I went to get a drink with my friends, the bartender called me out in front of all the patrons for not tipping as much as she wanted. Honestly felt like a very hostile environment and I will never go back.
google avatar

Nick F.

Yelp
Used to be fun and inclusive but ever since the tiktok influencers blew it up they seem to have lost their sense of self and now exude "who do you know here" energy. Once would have called this place LGBTQ+ friendly and now would say it's the opposite of that. Just generally have had miserable experiences here trying to dance any night of the week so please save yourself the time and go next door for a more diverse and inclusive crowd at Pianos... sad loss of a fun establishment.

Courtney M.

Yelp
I had a really unsettling experience here. On a Saturday evening around 9pm I was going here to meet friends. I showed up in flip flops and the bouncer refused to let me in. I was obviously frustrated because it seemed a bit extreme of a rule for this particular bar. Then, a girl about my age walks up to the bouncer in flip flops and he let her in! I could NOT believe it. I went up to him and asked him what the difference between my shoes and hers were. His response was "ma'am, if you'd like to go home and change your shoes you can." I have no kind regards to leave about this situation where I was totally, unrightfully discriminated against. My friends and I will never return.

Yelp
RACIST establishment. Had a group of 8 people, 5 white girls, and asian man, and two black men. All of us got in not problem, except the black men. One of which is a professional football player. The rest of us stayed for a little while, the girl bouncing for the basement was very rude and pretentious. Treated us like trash. Very small space. The place SUCKS. Don't go.

Austin N.

Yelp
I went to kind regards expecting a wonderful evening out, but instead I was met with a pungent odor, mediocre drinks and hostile staff

Yelp
I went here for a last-minute birthday celebration with a large group and the staff was super accommodating with good drinks, great music, and wonderful vibes. 10/10!!!

1 star because it's required. Horrible bouncer inside said "ok bitch" several times to me when I asked to go downstairs, where I've been several times before. The outside bouncer in charge said I made it up because "he is Christian and he wouldn't say that," and told me to leave several times when I brand up the issue. Left after this, thank god.

Yelp
Love this place. The staff is friendly, the drinks are delicious, and the music is always spot on. It's a little hard to get in depending on when you show up, so i always come early. If I can't make it early I come ready to pay a minimum for bottle service at a table (it comes with premium liquor, sparklers, chasers, etc.) I also like that they have two floors. Upstairs you can chill and chat. Downstairs is a dance party! Every time I have friends in town I bring them here to impress them. It always works.
