Like probably everyone else who eats here, we stopped in before a play at the Guthrie. I arrived first and was seated immediately, even though the rest of the party on the reservation hadn't arrived yet. Between 5:30 and 6, the place went from nearly empty to nearly full (like I said, probably playgoers, so plan accordingly). Even though the staff seemed a bit rushed and stressed out, they were very friendly.
The Thai iced coffee gets two thumbs up from me, and the apps we tried (beef lettuce wraps and chicken satay) were pretty delicious too. But for my entree, I ordered pad thai and asked if they could substitute chicken instead of tofu (since chicken and tofu are listed on the menu as the same price, and I don't eat soy). The waitress agreed, but when the food came out, there was both chicken AND tofu in it. I picked the tofu out, but I was upcharged for adding chicken, instead of simply swapping it out. My pad thai also had a distinct dog food taste to it, so overall it wasn't my thing. My boyfriend's yellow curry, on the other hand, was DELICIOUS. If I ever go back, that's what I'm getting. I'd also like to try the cranberry cream cheese wontons and son in law eggs.
That's a pretty big "if" though. There are several Thai places around the cities that are just as good or better. (Nong's Thai in Golden Valley is still my favorite.)
