Meat Experts Compare Beef From Eight and 15-Year-Old Cows | Eater

"Farmer Lee Ranney, at his Valtie, New York farm, notes a dramatic shift in livestock practices: before 1940 the average age of a harvested animal was 4–5 years, whereas today it’s typically 12–15 months. To illustrate how age affects meat, he presented three grass-fed cows aged 28 months, 8 years, and 15 years for tasting and comparison." - Eater Video

I get a meat share from Kinderhook Farm, but I always end up adding more when I pick up. Everything I've had from here is outstanding and the staff are incredibly friendly. Any questions you have about how to cook any of their cuts can be answered and they are more than happy to have you walk around the farm to see the animals!

I was on my way back home from a long vacation and we wanted to stop in a farm. We Google it and this one came up the closer one. Very nice and the owner very friendly. So bad that we couldn’t see more animals that day.

Great farm stay! Lots of animals to look at. The geese stroll around like they own the place ;) the staff are very knowledgeable and so helpful. Lots of interactive activities. The farmstay itself is a converted barn, very modern. If you go during colder weather keep in mind that the building doesn't have insulation. Beds are warm and comfy but pack for cold weather!

From the moment you arrive, it's clear Kinderhook Farm is dedicated to sustainable and ethical farming practices. Their grass-fed beef and lamb are tender, flavorful, and nutrient-packed, with the care they put into raising their animals evident in every bite. If you value quality and care about where your food comes from, Kinderhook Farm is a must-visit!

Awesome farm with a great selection of farm fresh meats and eggs. Highly recommend if you like knowing where your food is coming from. Very friendly and informative staff. It is fun playing fetch with one of the dogs while walking around the grounds.

Google
I found a recipe for lamb chops from Kinderhook Farm on the Hudson Connection Facebook page, which brought me to visit their beautiful farm store. I have been back several times since, and each time I go I find the person at the counter to be friendly, knowledgeable, and full of great cooking advice for any meat they sell- which is an astounding variety. Don’t miss an opportunity to visit here.

Visiting Kinderhook Farm was a blast. Coming from NYC, it was a great experience. It's so spacious, clear and an obvious sense of tranquility. With that the only busy-ness are seeing the various animals and an occasional "baa" from the sheeps. We were greeted by a warm, kind and gentle lady. Lovely person. She gave our party a tour of sorts and explained farm things we city folk did not know. As a bonus we marveled at some ancient Native American artifacts collected by this gentleman who also works in the farm. He explained the smalls details of how he goes about searching for artifacts. They are warm people. Lastly, we took home various meats. They are great! We plan to comeback to replenish our meat supply. We worth the trip. Highly recommend to visit.

Yelp
Beautiful well kept farm with rolling hills, friendly staff and outstanding fresh foods. My buddy is local and this is his go to spot for meats and eggs. The food is fresh and simply tastes better than your usual city grocery store offering. The animals are well cared for and when you walk the grounds you can tell the farm is organized and properly run. My son had a blast watching the sheep grazing on the hill, the flock of geese marching around with the lead goose barking orders, the cute farm dog (boxer) and the hen house complete with a rooster crowing and guarding his peeps! The market has tons of different types of meats so bring a cooler and load up! The grounds are extensive so we didn't get to see the other animals. Meat wise you can taste the difference and although it's pricey you get what you pay for! Awesome stop if your in the area.

Yelp
Great place to learn so much about farm animals and to buy your meat and eggs! My 3 Y/O and I the enjoyed the experience. I advise you to go around 1:00 PM to catch the tour.

Yelp
This is one of best experiences my family has had! We were looking for a way to unplug from New York city's fast-pace lifestyle. The farm doesn't have a tv and WiFi. Which is exactly what we're looking for! When we arrived, we were immediately blown away by the well kept fields and the friendly staff. We were instantly invited to feel at home at the guest house (which is a wonderfully converted barn). The second we unloaded the car, the kids were off running around and didn't have to worry about being too loud or noisy because- no neighbors! The barn/ guesthouse is well equipped with anything you may need. The only thing not there, ACs but.....Don't worry. You won't be needing it at night as it gets quite cold during the night. We even had to grab extra blankets to stay warm (which were readily available!). Outside, There are two hammocks, A grill, fire pit. And baby Pool for kids. We got a tour of most of the farm. We Saw sheep, guardian dogs, geese are frequent visitors, chickens and roosters, pigs, cows, bulls, horses, etc... There are so many activities that our children didn't even ask for digital devices to pass the time! Laura and Elle are very knowledgeable and accommodating!!! We bothered them with many phone calls/ texts with questions about our stay- they were extremely kind and patient. Grace was very inviting to show us the garden and share with us some of the veggies grown. What a beautiful array of veggies!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, KINDERHOOK FARM, FOR GIVING OUR FAMILY SUCH A VALUABLE AND MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE.

Yelp
I've only been there a couple of times but they have a very nice meat selection and the lady was very helpful with letting me know when things would be back in stock that they were out of we'll definitely be going there

Yelp
Once you take a little walk around the farm, you'll see why their meat and eggs are worth every penny. The animals have as good a life as any farm animal can. And you can taste the difference. Oh, and their hot dogs are exceptional. Nicely spiced.

Yelp
Best described as a farm that offers pasture-raised, grass-finished beef, chicken, eggs, and occasionally pork from their tiny on-site store OR at a local (or not-so-local, NYC-ers) farmers market. We stopped by to purchase eggs, were given a gracious greeting, and then offered an opportunity to see exactly where said eggs came from. Of course, we hopped on the chance and had a wonderful time wandering the farm. Thank you, so much!

Yelp
So beautiful! Definitely take a walk in the grounds, before shopping for amazing cuts of meat!

Yelp
This farm is wonderful. The meat we purchased was exceptional. Before purchasing we enjoyed walking the grounds; it was reassuring to see that the animals were kept clean and treated with great kindness by the staff. The person who checked us out was also extremely pleasant, answering all of our questions in great detail and inviting us to take one of their farm tours. We can't wait to take another trip up that way so we can go back.

Yelp
Worth the 2+ hour drive from BK- Best thing to do is bring a giant cooler with ice up with you. LOAD UP ON MEAT! Lamb, beef and pork all here is unbelievable- this is the only meat to eat! A few other great places close by- Samascott Orchards for PYO and Hawthorne Valley Farm! Saturday they have a "Farm Tour" but they usually let you walk around freely whenever you want. Great people as well!
