The Best Bars in San Diego

"Since opening in South Park, this cocktail haven from Kory Stetina (also the creator of the acclaimed Mothership) has drawn a loyal crowd. The dark, Victorian-meets-goth interior—featuring rainbow-bright wallpaper and a quad-eyed, horned wolf head hanging low over the center booth—sets the perfect stage for cocktails made with bold ingredients like strawberry-ginger-cascara shrub and deep, earthy plum tincture. Kindred is regarded for its all-day food menu that just happens to be vegan, and a moody metal playlist that’s not nearly as loud as some might expect." - Kelly Bone

San Diego's Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants

"The recently revamped menu at this vegan hotspot — a place to see and be seen for vegan San Diegans — adds more shareable dishes, like the hexagon of black marble holding barbecued yuba, shawarma-style Impossible Meat, and homemade classic seitan skewers, as well as a torched carrots with cannellini pate. Cocktails (or mocktails) are a must. Both offer curious creations with titillating ingredients like the pineapple turmeric shrub and ktult plum tincture." - Kelly Bone

Kindred hospital has exceeded my expectations concerning patient care. The doctors and nurses are ALL very professional, knowledgeable and take pride in their delivery of care. One quality that describes the staff at Kindred Hospital is KINDNESS!! My family member is getting better day by day but is bed- bound and his schedule is switched up - up and night and sleep during the day- hoping he gets a single room that is bright and daylight sun in his room can turn his clock back to normal. Although the nursing staff is Awesome- Daniel requires his position to be a certain way that takes time and knowing that he is uncomfortable but yet might not be able to communicate that to the staff- hoping I can spend the night with him to help with the small details going forward!! And full recovery!!

My wife was transferred to Kindred after an extensively long stay at another San Diego hospital. She was sent there for completion of her medical needs and PT/OT. Not knowing much about Long-term Acute Care (LTAC) facilities, the Staff at Kindred worked with me to help me understand their purpose as well as the "get healthy" plan for my wife. The overall experience was exceptional - above par. The care and compassion extended to me, along with the medical care and physical therapy/occupational therapy support, helped me throughout my almost 30-day stay. While everyone there left me with a positive feeling, there are always a few people who stand out, and I want to extend my personal gratitude to the following: NOTE - I may know these people's last names, but I am sure the Sr. Staff of Kindred will be able to identify them. Nurses (In alphabetical order) - Elyssa, Marta, Megan, and Victoria. Cleaning Staff - I failed to get the names of two of the workers (one female and one male ( but If you say to them, "I'm watching you, so be nice ;-) They will know who I mean. PT/OT staff - Ashley, Brittany, and Kerri for working tirelessly to help my wife get ready for the final leg of recovery Case Manager Alycia, for her patience with me as I learned to navigate the complex healthcare system. And a special thanks to Joshua. His enthusiasm, energy, and patience is contagious. Once again, I can't thank everyone; you were all wonderful. For anyone seeking a positive LTAC experience, Kindred San Diego is a good option. JM

My first visit to the hospital has been an amazing experience. Staffs are so welcoming and polite. Nurse Joseph in ICU has been an amazing mentor and knows his job to perfection. He makes sure he follows hospital protocol while performing his duties and giving the best care to every patient he serves. He is knowledgeable in everything he does and passes it down to student Nurse in a very professional and knowledgeable way explaining in detail why it's done. I will always maintain the same professional attitude that these staffs at Kindred hospital have because I want to be a amazing nurse like them. Thank you for being humble and giving us an opportunity to learn with you.

PLEASE READ! To anybody who is considering bringing their loved one to this hospital, DON'T!!!. This place is absolutely horrible, they will make it sound great when they give you a tour but they will not take care of your loved ones. The so called doctors are there for minutes & leave. They have nobody who knows how to draw blood, they can take over an hour to respond to a call light meanwhile employees are walking past the room when they clearly see the light on, the rooms are either too cold or too hot. There is just too much that I can say & none of it is positive. Just know if you love your family member do not leave them here because they will not check & watch over them. I heard so many code blue alerts it's scary, a number of patients past away in the time I was there. I'm sure all hospitals have their flaws but this one needs to be shut down because they don't care for the patients at all, oh & don't even bother complaining to the higher ups because they will not do anything. Again if you love your family member DO NOT LEAVE THEM THERE.

I am currently a patient at Kindred Hospital on El Cajon Blvd in San Diego and hope to be released soon. I came to Kindred in very bad shape a few months ago and I’m glad to say that I’m leaving in much better shape. I was admitted when I was sedated and on a ventilator after receiving very poor care at a facility in Indio that Kaiser sent me to. I contracted MRSA and another staph infection and ended up in the ER at a small hospital in Indio. They had the foresight to have me sent to Kindred so I could receive great care and be close to home. Kindred welcomed me to their ICU and reinserted my tracheostomy and got me breathing again without a ventilator. I now have had the tracheostomy removed and am breathing ok with just oxygen. The facility is cleaned everyday. The CNAs and nurses are very professional and responsive but the place is understaffed resulting in long waits for service. Danthea the charge nurse is excellent at getting your needs provided. I am constantly seen by a range of doctors and wound specialists. I arrived here with a huge open bedsore on my rear that has steadily improved under Kindred’s care. They’ve kept it sterile so it can heal. I routinely see therapists that assess my mental state. The physical therapists are great and really want to see me up and moving. They are very willing to work with me with whatever I need. The Administration officials stop by several times a week to offer their support and to see what I need. They are not a nameless face but are hands on trying to make my stay better to the extent they can given corporate restraints. This has been a long difficult journey that began with having my gallbladder out that led to septic shock within 48 hours. I almost died two times but I am now on solid ground to mend thanks in part to Kindred Hospital.

My Dad was set to Kindred from another hospital after having a toe cut off. At 89 he had a long history of illnesses. The toe removal as being the worst for his age. Once I got over the problem of nobody calling me about what was going on. The care for him was great!! I hope and pray he gets better enough to come home.

When I was admitted to kindred I was barely alive, I can’t say enough good things about this place they took care of me when I couldn’t take care of myself and after a stroke I was not a pleasant person but everyone took such great care of me despite my bad attitude nurses Joe, Kevin, and Lisa were very kind. Cindy at the front desk treated my family like they were her own. Sarah the speech therapist was extremely kind and Cesar the physical therapist was a great guy and got me walking again, Josh the patient advocate was also top notch. Overall to anyone that finds themselves in the position I was in I give this place a ten and they deserve 6 stars ⭐️ ❤️

I’m a student and had the pleasure of shadowing RN David N. last week on the floor, and RN Joe L. this week in the ICU. They were extremely informative and the perfect nurses to shadow. I’m looking forward to my hospital experience and clinical hours at Kindred to soak up as much as I can from their team of excellent nurses!

Yelp
I'm going to preface this by saying: I am very particular. My father was happy, had no complaints, was comfortable and not in any pain. What more can you ask for right? The facility is nice and clean, located conveniently off multiple freeways, and the front desk are great at making us feel welcome. My father - who came from the telemetry at Paradise Valley Hospital - was treated well and making great progress in speech therapy and PT/OT. Kindred handles admissions and visits very professionally, very mindful of protocol in the midst of a pandemic and a recent spike in cases in the San Diego area. Case management is excellent and listens attentively. They are easy going, knowledgeable, and referred to the patient files frequently. They work as a team, which I loved; I didn't have to cross my fingers my one assigned case worker will be available and be the only one to know whats going on. I asked for a speech therapist that could speak Ilocano and that was no problem at all!! This is kind of a big deal. I can't tell you just how much this made my heart sing. Though my father speaks multiple languages fluently, including English, I found he communicated best in Ilocano, his mother tongue. My one complaint is they have far too many patients than they can handle administratively and this problem shines through once you so much as reach out to patient relations. In fact, they'll be quick to remind you they have 75 patients and other families if you ask too many questions. I'll be generous and say this was a communication breakdown exacerbated by the pandemic. We have most of our family in the Philippines and had been trying to make use of the iPad/Facetime Kindred allows patients to use. The nurses really tried their best to help us; the management I would say failed to understand how important this was for my father's overall wellness. Being in a facility is hard, but when its medically necessary, we are really putting our trust in strangers. I'm not one to just hope for the best. So when patient relations left was slow to reply and then altogether unhelpful, I was floored. I didn't realize how complex setting a schedule for iPad use. I would buy my own but there was that clause in admissions paperowkr If your loved one is fairly stable and can verbalize their every concern; if you're comfortable following up frequently and being asked to call back; if you are knowledgeable about medical terms and thoroughly understand your loved ones needs, Kindred could be a good fit for you.

Yelp
In November 2024, my grandpa was admitted to Kindred Hospital San Diego for serious breathing issues and had to be on oxygen. While a couple of nurses were kind, most were slow, inattentive, and took forever to respond to his calls for help. One night, after being ignored, he lost consciousness. My aunt stayed the night to make sure he was okay, and instead of understanding, the Director of Nursing, Sherri Navedo, came in yelling at her in front of my grandpa and even threatened to call the police. The worst part is that during the week he was there, multiple nurses actually asked us who would be staying the night with him. We explained every time that we were told it wasn't allowed, but the nurses would tell us it usually was. There was no consistency or clear communication. Right after that confrontation, my grandpa's oxygen levels dropped and wouldn't go back up, even with the mask. Just an hour or two later, he passed away. We can't say for sure the stress caused it, but it felt like the final blow. No family should ever be treated this way during such a vulnerable time. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone.

Raquelle R.

Yelp
You guys lost his phone AGAIN. After three days of trying to get ahold of someone and being told twice that people would call me back, I finally got through and spoke to his nurse today just for her to let me know he doesn't have his phone with him. Spoke to another woman in a different department where he was before being moved to a different room who physically looked and didn't find it. This is so ridiculous.

Yelp
My wife, 80 years old, spent two weeks at Kindred. The staff was wonderful and we can recommend this hospital highly. Thanks Kindred!

Yelp
Samuel Olmscheid took great care of us and our family. He made sure to answer our questions at any moment, and went above and beyond for us and our loved one. Thank you Sam

Yelp
Way over due review. This place killed my father. A lot of incompetent people working here. The unfortunate part is there aren't many facilities to choose from. A stupid nurse took out my dad's medication line that was in his vein in his arm because she thought it was infected. The reason she thought it was infected was because his arm was swollen but my dad is a dialysis patient and anyone would know that these types of patients retain fluid which moves around to different parts of the body. So this dumb nurse removes his pic line where he receives pain medication. Mind you that that pic line was put in there with a surgery team that was not easy to get done. So this nurse removes it without any family members being informed. Now my dad is forced to take oral pain medication which then causes him to get his bowels to back up because oral pain medication causes constipation, They then have to give my dad enemas through his rectum which then causes a hematoma in his rectum wall. He then has to be taken to the hospital which we had to fight with the head nurse to transport my dad to a hospital to see what was happening to my dad because his color to his face was changing to a pale blue. This place is just a mess. My dad was taken to the hospital where due to all the complications that this facility caused there was no way to save him. The nurses name who assisted in my father's death is Sara. The most stupidest person ever. She probably doesn't even know what she did. These places need to shut down but of course nothing will happen because this is part of the American healthcare system. They couldn't care less here. 0 stars if it was an option.

Yelp
This is a review regarding my son's care at Kindred. He is a veteran and was sent to Kindered to recuperate from a heart surgery and tracheal tube put in. He lost his hearing as well as his ability to walk. The doctors, nurses, support staff, social workers were all great. They were attentive and flexible to tend to his specific needs. A special shout out to the nursing staff specifically for all they did for him. Pam and Josh were excellent supports for him. Cindy at the front desk was especially kind and attentive. Thank you so much for doing all you could for him. Ronnie Stewart

Yelp
Came in for a Covid booster (Pfizer this time.) There was no wait time and the nurse was skilled and friendy. I hardly felt it.

Yelp
This place is awful. My brother went in to have his foot wound monitored while his home health nurse went out of town and ended up passing away. He was a type 1 diabetic and didn't receive his insulin for 5days. On the day he passed away/ before he actually passed my mom asked one of nursing assistants to pls stay with him while she stepped out to make a phone call. The nursing assistants response was "I am not a babysitter!" We've been blaming ourselves for agreeing to have him admitted here despite the bad reviews and I've been dreading to relive this memory to post a review but I want patients and families to know that this is not a safe place to be . Pls go anywhere else

Yelp
Update now that my mom has been out of there since late last year. My mom STILL has pain in her right leg from a "physical therapist" named Katie that overextended it in a "session" with her. We decided finally that we would go get an x ray for her because obviously whatever she did isn't healing and there's something wrong. We discovered Katie fractured her fibula from that "stretching and physical therapy" she provided at the time. On top of that she's still healing from the bed sores that kindred provided her with. Stay away from Katie, stay away from this hell hole if you can.

Yelp
So as of today 10/21/2023 at 10:15 I arrive at kindred hospital to visit my dad mind you when I walk into the building where all the patients are in the 400 rooms it smells putrid as if someone had been sitting in there feces and urine all night and day it was ridiculous I even seen a doctor come out and asks why it smelled so bad and wanting to know whose bed it was. I also had rang for a nurse to com and change my dad who had been sitting in his own feces I could smell it and he agreed that he needed to be changed I called for a nurse realized after 5 minutes that it was taking quite a bit to respond or even get an acknowledgment so I put a timer on and 20 minutes later after me going back out into the hall and a male nurse asking if I needed help with anything even though there was a flashing light above his head so in total it took 25 minutes to respond to my dad who is in need of being changed and sitting in his own feces. I understand that when trying to wean someone off of a ventilator they may be calling for nurses non stop but it is your due diligence to answer every call within a timely manner and do so kindly with out attitude.

Yelp
I go sick ended up in Sharp Chula Vista. After 7 days they transferred me Kindred Hospital San Diego. I was there for almost 22 days. The staff at Kindred treated me like I owned the place. Sharp's Hospital is an acute care facility. Kindred Hospital is a long term care facility. Both hospitals basically saved my life. I would recommend Kindred Hospital in a San Diego Minute. I know the saying is in a New York minute. My treating doctor, was Dr. Elion Brace. He was an excellent and amazing doctor. He came and saw me every day that I was in the hospital. I would recommend him if you're looking for a good doctor. He also sent copies of the medical charts to, family doctor and my cardiologist. I can't say enough about Kindred Hospital San Diego, Sharps Hospital Chula Vista. The Chula Vista Fire Department and their Paramedics Team. The doctors in the hospital emergency room too.

Yelp
My dearly departed sister Hasmig was a patient at Kindred for well over six months. I was at her side daily to insure that the proper care and attention was given for her speedy recovery and wellbeing. Family provided 24 hour watch over her. Doctors Hom, Clark, Hammas, Davis, and Pitt would stop in during morning rounds, grab a stethoscope and listen to her heart. Yes, these doctors kept her alive but barely. They never gave her a chance to improve. Pulling the plug was their recommendation. The nurses (RNs/Lydia, LVNs) were another nightmare scenario. My family and I had to keep after them to do their job; i.e., reposition, clean up, give meds, etc.--felt these duties were demeaning. The only cooperation we got were from the CNAs. It is sad that very critical patients, like my sister, are subjected and placed at Kindred to be abused and eventually killed; negligence by the staff. I wouldn't place my dog in Kindred. My poor sister lost her life at the hands of the incompetent medical and administrative staff at Kindred. The California Medical Board should investigate this facility. May my sister Hasmig Rest In Peace!

Yelp
I would really like to acknowledge how Sarah (The lady that sits at the front desk in the lobby) went above and beyond for my grandmother. She was always so helpful and patient. My grandmother really loved it when she would stop in and check on her. She really went the extra mile, and my family appreciates that so much. Thanks Sarah!!

Yelp
My 55 yr old brother was in Kindred of San Diego for 5 months. He came here and ended up leaving in worse shape then coming in.He left Kindred in a ambulance to Scripps La Jolla . They gave him emergency surgery and remove his colon to save his life. I was told they removed a feces the size of a baby's head. When he got there he was covered in bed sores the size of grapefruits . Both hips ,tail bone exposed & both upper legs area had stage 4 sores. I highly don't recommend this place if you care about your love one. I was an active Avocate for my love one , tried my best to communicate w Doctors and staff and he still fell through the cracks. I don't have anything nice to say about his doctor.. but very disappointed. Dr GERSTER I hope one day you end up in one of your own facilities and receive the same care you have given to my love one.SHAME ON YOU.

Yelp
I work as a mortician so this review comes from a different spectrum than regular customers or patients. Never before have I been disgraced with such lack of care and unprofessionalism from the nursing staff than I have in this hospital. It would appear the people here aren't capable of doing their jobs and rather than admit it with sooner rather blame you for your work ethic, and just be standoffish as opposed to a caring and understanding individuals that you would expect from doctors or nurses. When addressing the issue with the management, it would appear that they had no inclination of addressing this issue as they choose to listen to me silently and as I was done wordlessly let me leave with nothing else to add. A sign that this has happened in the past and they're used to dealing with these kind of complaints. All in all I'm not sure how patients fair from this hospital but from a professional and business side I would not recommend doing business with these people. The way they handled decedent affairs is disrespectful to both families and the workers involved.

Yelp
Update: My mom was at Kindred for over a month and was moved to a SNF -- Unfortunately, our experience with our assigned social worker wasn't a very good experience and ultimately had to deal with the director since we didn't seem like the person who was assigned to us didn't like to deal with families since she never acknowledged us or called us back with the information we were waiting for. She also sent my sister & dad to see a "long term care" facility that couldn't even accommodate ADA (my dad is in a wheelchair soooo says a lot about how this person knows about facilities) Very disappointing. Some observations from an outside perspective: - lots of kinks being worked out internally in regards to processes, expectations, and responsibilities. It seems like things get moving when you begin to contact the senior leaders. - There is a TON of room for improvement and the conversations we've had with many of the employees at Kindred were REALLY trying to get to their goal - Ultimately I can't understand why some workers are so good, and then others are not. My overall impression of Kindred is gratitude to the nursing and CNA staff - they were attentive, knew their job well, and did their best to make my mom's recovery comfortable and pleasant. They are angels. I'm grateful to have been lucky that we had staff that were good and not like what was described in prior reviews. Also, a note to some families, being nice goes a long way - don't think that being demanding or condescending will get the results you desire. People are to be treated with respect. Dr. Hom was good and we appreciated his sympathy and earnest in helping my mom get well.

J M.

Yelp
Only reason why I'm even giving 1 single star is because you HAVE TO leave at least 1 if you wanted to leave a review. First off.... THE ONLY THING POSITIVE to say is that MAXINE AND TESS ARE AMAZING. Kind, compassionate, caring, professional R.N's in ICU. As for the rest of the skilled nursing staff we encountered... SUCKED! I wouldn't dare entrust my dog in their care!! Terribly under educated in SN!! My poor grandpa was dumped in a room after being moved from ICU for recovery and left alone, soiled and totally ignored by staff for 2 hours until my family arrived to find him treated with NO DIGNITY, RESPECT OR CARE. Promises were made by SN, but we took our grandpa out of that dirty Hell Hole immediately! THIS HOSPITAL IS SO OUTDATED WITH PEELING WALLS, STAINED FLOORS, RAGGED FURNITURE (COME ON... FOLDING CHAIRS IN PATIENTS ROOMS?! Tacky!!) SN REJECTS SEEM TO BE THE RUN OF THE MILL EMPLOYEES.

Yelp
Been in another rehab center in last year plus 2 different hospitals. care given here has been outstandin. Nursing staff including there supervisor(helps out when short of staff) are professional and cater to your needs. Because of shortage of nurses nationwide they bring traveling nurses in and they fit right in with staff and you can't tell difference which is a tribute to the administration and local nurses training them. Addionally they take time in training local college nursing students for next generation nurses. Last comment the rehab department is outstanding. They are self motivators and work with you to achieve goals.

Yelp
My mom was at kindred for 6 months due to brain surgery complications. There were many angels that helped my mom through the emotional journey. big thanks to Cindy ( ray of hope and sunshine), therapist Amanda(thanks for never giving up), speech therapist Andrea, nurses, Sarah , Yvette, Delahi, Connie and CNAs Melissa, Michelle, Andrew, and Charmayne. Thank you Erin for helping us get second opinion at UCSD. UCSD saved moms life. The reason for 4 stars is the scripps on-site doctor. Didn't spend much time with mom . He pretty much lacked being proactive on contacting scripps neurosurgeon when mom declined. We were not able to see my mother until end of March due to Covid restrictions. It took two weeks along with myself, my sister, therapist and nurse Sarah to get doctor to make contact with surgeon to move appt up. He had the indecency to tell me " it's interesting in the family's perspective ". This is our mother and he pretty much told us to make her comfortable. He gave up. All I can say is the other staff took good care of my mother with dignity and care My mother never gave up and glad we got second opinion. There is a lot of great staff at this facility.

Yelp
My mother was brought to kindred hospital and I couldn't have asked for a better place for her! The people here are so caring, from Lynnae who was extremely welcoming and very helpful to Cindy and Amy at the front desk who always helped me with any question I have. It's hard to find a place where you can trust someone is important in a special as your mom. there is no other hospital I would rather have my mother be cuz I know she's under the best care . Thank you so much to all the staff at kindred!

Yelp
From the moment my grandmother was transferred to this hospital, our experience was exceptional. The case manager, Shirlee, demonstrated compassion and was available for any questions my family and I had. Even through our hardship, Shirlee, Dr. Clark, and the rest of the staff expressed empathy. I would highly recommend this facility.

Yelp
Leaving Sharp Memorial's Surgical ICU after two weeks was unsettling. There are basically two choices for long-teem acute care and although our initial impression of Kindred was not a good one (we saw their ICU and there simple IS no comparison to Sharp's state of the art ICU!) we chose Kindred on the recommendation of Sharp physicians. My husband suffered pulmonary and cerebral embolisms following knee surgery. Kindred's medical staff were exceptional. They were consistently caring, concerned and competent. Don't be put off by the aged facility-it was built in 1940. In one month my husband improved so much that everyone is amazed at how far he has come. When you have staff hugging you when you leave, high-fiving new accomplishments and telling you they will track you down to come visit, you know they care! As a family we have found that if you are involved in your loved one's care, ask questions and treat every person who surrounds them with kindness, gratefulness and respect, from the custodial staff to the doctor and everyone in between, you will receive the very best from all of them. Also, when you have employees who have worked at a facility for 10-20 years, that speaks volumes. We can't say enough about Kindred-it is one of the very best, especially if you have pulmonary and tracheostomy issues!

Yelp
Once again I had a friend that was sent from Scripps hospital to the Kindred hospital due to platelet problems and this hospital was the most under ron facility and between the caseworker never really doing her job other saying I'm on it and I'll get back with you and no one ever taking responsibility for what they did as I almost killed my friend with giving her drugs that put her almost in a coma and failed to call any family members or to let them know that she was in dire danger they just covered it up and I was a shame if we were so happy we could've sued him and we probably would've won on the dot it's just a shame that when you're on your worst health you're damned into these places that their only thing is is how soon can we get you out and they just walked by their sweet as honey to you they will always say yes yes I'll get this done don't worry you just get healthy and they don't do anything if possible please find another place for your loved one for their sake and your well-being as well take care

Yelp
My dear husband spent almost six weeks at Kindred Hospital in San Diego, CA and it was the worst experience he has ever had in a hospital! Here is why, the lack of the English language, miscommunication from the top to the bottom, such as case manager, nurses, doctors, etc. Then the negligence, and verbal abuse from the nurses there. Some did not even know what they were doing. The nurses and doctors wouldn't even introduce themselves, so you never knew who you were dealing with. They would lie to you, you never got straight answers. You would complain and it would land on deaf ears. Of course it would not get resolved. It was like a horror movie! We had to demand for my husband to be released due to negligence, verbal abuse my husband had to endure. Due to the care he got from this horrific place, my husband has suffered pain on his neck and shoulders due to him being bedridden for 6 weeks, unable to climb up four steps at home, suffered mental anguish and anxiety as he felt his life was in danger. Also, cuts and scrapes, bruises that he didn't have before. Another one I may add is they left him in the bed for four days when he needed to have a bm! He ended up coming out of there worse than he went in. He's even had nightmares over this! Want everyone to know that Kindred hospital in San Diego, CA is not recommended at all! They're very calloused and seems obvious that this is a regular occurrence for them and they just don't care. Shame on them!

Yelp
I would give a negative review if possible. My mom spent 3 weeks here to "rehabilitate herself". She spent 2 weeks with severe abdominal pain that they could not figure out. My stepdad got her out and transferred to the Naval Hospital San Diego and they figured out that same day her gallbladder was bad. She died the next day. Biggest mistake we made letting her stay there. I miss you mom

Yelp
My husband required a months recovery after a month in ICU at Naval Hospital. I visited two long term hospitals that were available too us, Vibra and Kindred. The tour of Vibra was nice. The hospital was clean and nice enough. The underground parking for this hospital was horrible. My visit to Kindred presented an older hospital with ample outdoor parking. The staff was friendly courteous and very generous with any knowledge you might need. The place was clean. I chose Kindred. We had a few minor problems that were resolved. Overall we were satisfied and recommend this hospital

Yelp
With a heavy heart I am writing this review. I feel that I have to spare others from the heartache my family and I are now going through. My beloved sister spend six months at Kindred Hospital and they killed her slowly. The facility is dirty. The staff is lazy, especially the RNs. They did not do anything to help my sister. She was only being kept there so they could bill the insurance company. If anyone out there has a loved one needing long term acute care please don't take them to Kindred. We were there everyday to make sure they kept her clean. We were to scared to leave her alone. Kindred deprived my sister of medical treatment. One of the biggest problem with Kindred is the insensitivity they have towards the patients. The facility is archaic and they are not providing any new medical technologies to patients. One day we walked into my sister's room and she was covered in poop. There is only one thing goI can say about Kindred is that they have just a select very few good people that care.

Yelp
Bruce S. My husband also a patient of Dr Krevitz, was killed by Krevitz and staff at Kindred. They gave him meds that he could not handle (allergies)Meds that were noted on his file. He died in Kindred ICU on June 14, 2015. An autopsy was not given. No medical meeting to discuss his case. And I was given the run around. I cannot forget how their neglect brought my husband to an earlier end than was necessary. NEVER TAKE A LOVED ONE TO THIS FACILITY.

Yelp
For every well-trained, skilled medical professional working at Kindred there are 6 others who are unskilled, completely unprofessional and downright dangerously ignorant of basic healthcare practices. Many of them do not speak or understand English at all. Many of the staff do not have full licensure as RNs, LVNs or Nursing assistants. DO NOT BRING ANYONE YOU CARE ABOUT HERE FOR HEALTH CARE. Only bring them here if you want them to die. My mother's dialysis hookup was randomly disconnected and left on the FLOOR at some point in the middle of the night. We discovered it on the floor when we arrived in her room at 8 the next morning. And this is just the tip of the iceberg... My wife and I listened to two women crying and screaming in pain from 9:00 in the morning until 7:45 in the evening. They were completely ignored until I said something to one of the competent RNs at 7:45 , because my mother couldn't sleep. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Or, get a good lawyer, and shut this hellhole down.

Yelp
VERY BAD ATTITUDE! Spoke to Shirley, Case Manager for my brother. She thought i don't know anything about Healthcare. Do not bring any of your family members here

Yelp
I rarely write bad reviews. It has taken me a while to write this I have had time to re-think & consider my thoughts about my father's short stay here. First of all, we transferred him to Kindred in hopes of bringing him home with a BIPAP Machine - which never happened. I work in the healthcare field as well I asked around, asked people from the Imperial Valley as well. This place was highly recommended & has been given awards in Respiratory Care. Truthfully if I could turn back time I would not have transferred him there. They managed to lose his blanket from home off the bat. Not one documented in his belongings - so it never existed. They took two days to change the gown he was transferred in from El Centro. I know it was the same one as I had changed it before I left to go work in SD, waiting for him to transfer out to Kindred. He got a decubitus as well from the beginning night he stayed which progressed worse throughout his stay. If I wasn't there everyday to check on him, I'm sure they would of left him filthy. My father was alert & orientated, simply couldn't breathe & was weak. He needed constant assistance to turn. They had an improperly working oxygen regulator, that when I came in one day was blasted to 10L then would go down to 3L - with the pulse oximeter machine alarms set with a low of 88% (people on Oxygen should be at least 92%). The BIPAP MACHINE, one day got unplugged, it alarmed something I had never seen before. I place my dad on the cannula, since no one came to the room for at least 15 mins while the alarms are blasting from the machine I went to the nurses station. I tapped the nurse standing at the station on the back, asked her to come to the room and get a Respiratory Therapist to Room 5 - before I could get out that my dad can't breathe well she gets on her cell phone & puts her back to me and leaves. Finally, a respiratory therapist came to the room, since she heard it alarming. Could you imagine it took 30 or mins more. Luckily I am knowledgeable in what to do, but what if I was someone wasn't - that means their family member could of coded from Respiratory Distress. Anyhow, it turned out the nurse who ignored me in the nurse's station was Dantea - the charge nurse!?! They stopped his much needed dialysis, because his access clotted & were not aggressive in continuing it despite me telling them he needed it regardless of his urine output. It really sucks because there were some excellent nurses & CNA's that work hard & actually care. My father's health deteriorated back to square on with in 14 days of stay, they intubated him 11/29. They began sedating him and did not check his neuro status accordingly & thought I was an asshole for asking to. They finally did dialysis after he became encephalopathic. The ending of his stay was him coding & dying infront of me. They worked on him for an hour doing several rounds of CPR which is why I give them at least two stars. I am not ignorant to think his health was not poor, I just think if they would of continued the dialysis he would of been able to come home with us. Don't bring your loved ones here if you are planning to bring them home.

Yelp
My brother in law was admitted to Kindred San Diego on September 15th in a semi vegetative state and on a ventilator. He suffered a brain injury due to complications from Covid 19. The doctors at the previous hospital he was at said that there was a strong possibility that he would remain this way. Approximately a month after he arrived at Kindred, he was so alert and awake. He made eye contact, mouthed words, moved his arms and legs, responded to commands, and recognizes our whole family. He came back to life from his semi vegetative state. Two months after arriving he is no longer on a ventilator. He still has a long road to full recovery but the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, and the entire staff never gave up on him. We are so thankful! Lynnae has also been so great at helping coordinate visits with him, although they are limited do to Covid 19 restrictions, which we believe has helped in his recovery too. And the nurses have been great at setting up zoom calls as well so we can see him daily. The only issue we had was at the beginning with Venus, she's the coordinator who transferred my brother in law to Kindred San Diego. We originally wanted him to be transferred to the Rancho Cucamonga facility but she lied and said the neurologist who treated him at the previous hospital wanted to continue caring for him at Kindred. Come to find out it was a lie and Venus received a commission for admitting him to San Diego. Upper management did get involved but nothing was resolved because at the end of the day he wasn't transferred to Rancho Cucamonga. So just be aware when speaking to Venus or a case manager of what their real intentions are. Things happen for a reason and maybe he was meant to be at San Diego because he has flourished in his recovery. It was just disheartening that we were lied to.

Yelp
Hi- I really have to commend the nurses here at Kindred. My dad was having an off day due to fear of dialysis. Jose, Joyce and Kelly were wonderfully patient with him, and Jose cheered him up by asking about dad' life in the service. Aaliyah has been keeping the place clean, and Jo, the dialysis nurse, helped calm me down by explaining the whole treatment to me in a relaxed manner. This place is great!

Yelp
My wife was transferred her on 7/16/2018. OK, the place is old, but it is not kept clean anywhere - from the lobby bathroom, to most importantly patient rooms. Nurses and staff are incredibly slow to respond to patient calls. She has a wound on one of her toes that doesn't seem to be treated properly. She told me yesterday, they put gauze on it 2 days earlier. That's all, no antibiotic, and it hadn't been changed in 2 days.

Yelp
This hospital is disgusting. The nurses just hang out and complain while all the room lights are blinking. My mother's roommate needed to use the restroom and felt like she couldn't breath and it took forever for someone to come help her. I felt so bad I got up and got a nurse. The one I got just left her on the bed pan and disappeared. I had to get another nurse to help her off of it and clean her up. Then they started cleaning her with the door open and the curtain open with her privates out. I had to close the door for them. This place is a mess. Also my mother has not been offered a chance to bathe since she has arrived and it's been almost 3 weeks. Her roommate has not had a bath in 3 months.....she has bed sores, urine

Yelp
Thanks to the experience and caring of Dr. Clark, I'm writing this review from home without the traqueostomy in my neck. Most of the different therapist were caring and professional and help me to get better. It was not the same with most of the nurses, specially the staff at the night shift with rude and unprofessional staff. The room did not have water for almost a week and when the plumber came, there was no hot water for the rest of my four weeks there, the result was towel baths with very cold water, not acceptable conditions in a hospital. The call bell was useless. I thank Dr. Clark, to some of the staff and to the UCSD Case Worker Shirley Jones that with her insistence and knowledge facilitated my recovery contacting the necessary professionals to leave Kindred as soon as possible. I do not recommend it.

Yelp
Every time I have been to this hospital I have had a wonderful experience. The front desk and admission staff is the most friendly people I've ever met in a hospital. The food is great. The place is very clean and smells amazing from the moment you walk in the door (how many hospitals can you say that about??). If I ever have to go back to any hospital it will be kindred. Thank you!!

Yelp
My grandmother was at kindred for over a month. Do not believe the hype about patient care being number one. She did not receive proper equipment, was denied access to specialists (they will keep putting you off when you ask), when these things were promised by the hospital liasion before admittance. There are a few great nurses and RTs, but 90% are so overworked by management that they are burnt out. RN to patient ratio is 10:1 and RNs complain that they have told management that ratios are life threatening, but nothing is done. Medicare/Medical needs to stop by unannounced and document the many safety violations that occur everyday. Call buttons not plugged in, call buttons not answered for over ten minutes, respect for patient privacy violations, and denied access to proper medical equipment and specialists due to cost issues. Expect your loved one to sit in excrement for over 1 hour, or longer unless you complain. Only CNAs do clean up and there are only so many to go around. Patients are basically dumped off, medicated and the minimum done for them. Nurse supervisors don't care, Doctors don't care, nurses might care but due to staffing issues cannot do their job effectively. Walk the halls and see it empty, where is the staff??? Spread thin, I suppose. If you care about your loved one, do not send them to Kindred.

Yelp
My Father was admitted to Kindred Hospital on 2/10/17 for rehabilitation. The results just made me remember the sad reality we live in, our elders are the most helpless people in the world and they are under the mercy of someone who decided to work in the health and human service field just for the money. My Dad passed away on 2/13/17, I don't think I need to say more.

Yelp
The small hospital has some fine features, including some caring personnel, nurses, etc. But it is poorly run, and appears to give the absolute minimal care to the patients. In addition, the worst aspect, is that my nephew was sent home from the hospital twice without notice to the family and without genuine care. The first time he was sent home, he fell immediately and had to be taken by ambulance back to another hospital. The communication is disgustingly inadequate. The doctor is unavailable except for early morning visits where he delivers bad news and then is not available for questions. I have to admit that at the current time I am extremely angry at the fact that my nephew has been put in danger for a second time. So take this review with that grain of salt. However, I am right about the danger that your loved one is in when housed at this facility.

Yelp
My ex-wife was in hospitals and had three REALLY major surgeries in one year. She was in two of the three San Diego LTACs (Vibra and Kindred). Vibra was horrid; Kindred was wonderful. The staff of Vibra believe that if they keep giving Oxycodone to patients, they will eventually be too week or out of it to push the call button and wake them up. Kindred was excellent at taking care of the patients, and were generally very prompt when some assistance was needed. We were able to have a large number of family and friends visit her, pretty much at any time. The nurses were caring, concerned, and highly skilled. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs long-term acute care.

Yelp
My grandmother was a patient at Kindred recently and I just want to say, our experience was very good. I wish others who've reviewed Kindred had a better experience, like we did. The staff were friendly and attentive and caring, making the whole family feel comfortable. I appreciate the help from everyone.

Yelp
Recently my grandfather was at kindred. He continuously talked about Lynnae and how much he enjoyed her visits. I had the pleasure of meeting her on one of my visits. She has such a positive up beat personality and was so kind to me and my family. It really means a lot to have happy people around you or your loved ones when their is illness. Thank you Kindred for hiring great people.

Yelp
My mother is currently a patient. I cannot believe the doctors at Scripps Green actually recommend this place. The staff will come and turn off the nurse call button just so their timer will stop and then say I'll get your nurse and we'll have to wait an additional 30 minutes for the nurse to come. How is this adequate care? If you are on a schedule to receive your medication then they are not following orders. This is by far the worst rehab facility I have ever seen. Even Palomar in Escondido is 10x better. I am doing all I can to get her out of here. Do not bring your loved one here I'm warning you! Updated 6/29/16 nothing has changed!! My mother was supposed to get herds at 5:30 it's now 6:30 and when I went to ask they said they are understaffed and are trying to move quickly! Why would you take in more patients if you cannot provide care I'm reporting this facility to the state department of health

Yelp
I can't begin to express my gratitude for this Kindred Hospital. When my husband was transferred after is acute problems were solved at Scripps, he was still so weak I didn't know if he would be able to recover and, if he did, whether he would ever get off the respirator that had been keeping him alive. Also, I had never heard of a long-term hospital so I was skeptical. From the moment we walked in the door we received the best of care. They not only cared for my husband, they made sure I had everything I needed in order to support him. The staff is wonderful from Dr. Clark, who is the medical director, to the rehab team, nurses, CNA's and the cleaning people who keep this place spotless. Don't let the age of the building concern you. This place is a gem. My husband is not the same person that he was when he was admitted. My husband was abled to be transferred to acute rehab, free of the respirator and well on his way to a normal life.

Yelp
My husband was transferred to Kindred San Diego on December 15th on a ventilator and unable to walk or talk. On December 26th, my husband was discharged from the hospital walking and talking! The care he was given at this hospital was beyond wonderful! From the housekeeping staff (Lilly) to the Fabulous Dr. Clark they are all genuinely caring. The staff treated us like friends and family, not just a name on a chart. Even though the building is old, it is clean and taken care of. If you are able to get a bed here...take it! We will be back to visit soon!
