I loved this place. The grounds were lovely. We took a tour with the founder. A very gracious lady who started the vineyard from scratch , with her husband. The cooperation with her children and even polo classes held in the estate. The challenges of weather, diseases pests etc and her family’s resilience and determination to keep going. The distillery, the tasting , the conversation with the sommelier. They have beautiful wine. It was well worth it. Try it.

We had such a wonderful experience at this winery! The grounds were absolutely beautiful—perfect for a relaxing afternoon. We did a guided tasting and were so impressed not only by how great the wines were, but also by the amazing hospitality. The guide who led our tasting was kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable—she made the experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance was peaceful and inviting, and we left already talking about when we’d come back. Highly recommend!

My wife and I were fortunate enough to go on a very personal tour, as the other folks did not show up. Tom, and his lovely daughter Victoria tag teamed us and provided a very spirited and insightful tour. I shared that I was a retired chemical engineer, so Tom, as a retired chemist, provided a technical, yet very thought provoking picture of the intricacies of producing a delicious bottle of wine, and how complex the business of operating a large vineyard can be. Tom and Victoria connected with us immediately. They obviously love what they do and shared their insight in a humorous and very friendly presentation. Every question was answered, which led us to even more curious conversations. These two are treasures to your vineyard. We will be back for round two the next time we return to town.

Always be my fev place the view was amazing and the atmosphere was really peaceful. It’s one of those spots where you just want to sit, relax, and take it all in. I was honestly impressed. Great for photos too! If you’re nearby, definitely worth a visit. I’d love to go back again.”

King Family Winery Where Passion Grows Through rows of vines we wandered slow, With Tom and Sue to guide, Their love for craft in every word, Their passion bona fide. From soil to sip, they shared the tale, A vineyard’s living song, Where art and science intertwine, And every drop belongs. We’ve toured the world, yet never found A story told so true— A place where every glass reflects The heart of what they do. In every vine, in every pour, The King Family spirit shows; This winery, their work of art, A place where passion grows. Thank you King Family for the incredible tour by Tom and Sue.

My husband and I had our wedding at King Family this past November and I can not say enough great things about this venue! First, the location is fantastic and the views are stunning. Getting married with the mountains in the background made for stunning photos and the rain plan inside by the fireplace is also a gorgeous backdrop. The reception spaces and decorated beautifully and are a neutral canvas such that many different styles, colors, etc would work great in the space. The chairs and tables provided by the venue are good quality and the furniture in the gallery (hutch, riddling tables, etc) worked well with our wedding vision. King Family let us use a variety of spaces for photos. For example, our first look was on the polo field and our rehearsal photos were taking by the lake in the back with the beautiful vines behind us. Juan and his staff are so kind and were very laid back. My husbands family popped in for a glass of wine several months before our wedding and mentioned their son was getting married there in November. Without hesitation, the staff offered to show them the reception space since it was their first time visiting. King Family didn't have any ridiculous rules and were just genuine people who wanted us to have the wedding of our dreams. They made things as easy as possible for us without charging a ton of extra fees to do so. The wine we bought from King Family was incredible and we received so. many compliments at our wedding. I would recommend King Family to any bride! It was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to visit again and again and look back on that day with nothing but positive memories.

We had a beautiful summer engagement session at King Family Vineyards, and the property was just perfect. The views of the mountains and vineyard are incredible in the evening, and the horses being around are so much fun. As a wedding photographer, King Family is one of my favorite Charlottesville area venues to visit. Can't wait to be back!

Google
Another beutiful location serving award winning wines. The tasting venue is set in the middle of a Polo club. We saw a few riders practicing in the distance. Pictured here are the Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc that we both agreed were the best wines atsted that day among the three vineyards that we visited.

Yelp
The King Family Vineyard is a place where family should go and enjoy the day. Our family was the first to experience the excellent Tour and gained knowledgeable information about this beautiful Vineyard and everything it offered. The Tour experience will never be forgotten. I can't wait to see more. The hospitality of the Owner and Staff was spectacular. Thank you and I can't wait for my next Vacation to come and visit you again.

Yelp
My friend and I came here and there were food trucks and rugby going on! How exciting :) We both got wine flights. I got the rose one while she got the white one. We sat in the beautiful library next to a cellar full of their medal winning wines. Both flights contained really delicious wines. Then we walked around the grounds and watched the rugby players. Seems like a place where everyone loved to gather! Def. Loved the vibes and the beautiful view of the surrounding mountains!

Yelp
The grounds and views at King Family Vineyard are beautiful. The place is surrounded by lush green hills and mountains. We visited for a wine tasting, as our friends recommended King. We opted for two, four-pour flights--one of whites and one of reds. We found wines among both that we enjoyed. We did our tasting at a table outside under a shade umbrella amidst the view of the green grasses and scenery. They also have indoor seating if weather is bad. While we brought some nibbles with us, they have a cooler of cheeses and a selection of crackers. Service is very friendly and helpful. We hope to return when they have polo practice or matches taking place.

Yelp
I came here with friends on a beautiful late fall day. The vineyard was buzzing with energy and fun. In fact, there was a small toy airshow going on, which seemed to be entertaining adults and kids alike. We grabbed a spot on the grass. It wasn't too long of a wait for wine or snacks from their shops. My rose wine flight was lovely, and I still have fond memories when I use my souvenir glass. Definitely on the preppier side, but you can kind of tell just by the aura of the place as you're walking in. Lots of parking, but we did get some of the last spots on this beautiful day in the early to mid afternoon, so plan accordingly. Very clean.

Yelp
When wine tasting in Charlottesville, our first stop was King family vineyards. This was a very strong place to start. Our adventure at the grounds are absolutely breathtaking with rolling hills and the property is immaculate. I loved all of the outdoor seating, but the indoor seating was also nice. We had picked up sandwiches at a local sandwich shop in Charlottesville and after a round of wine tasting it was great having a picnic here. The wine was good and I loved the horse theme decor.

Yelp
Twelfth stop of our wine tasting weekend - Sunday 12:30. This is our third trip to King Family but the first for their Sunday polo. So fun! I'm so glad we were able to see it. We did not do a tasting this time, but I saw they offered three different tastings: white - 4 wines, red - 4 wines, or rose - 3 wines. Instead we opted to purchase a bottle of V, their Vino Verde-style wine for $19 while we watched the match. It was tasty, but I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase it again. If you come for the match, be sure to bring camp/beach chairs and an umbrella. It's hot on the field with no shade.

Yelp
Came for a wine tasting during my sister's bachelorette. We had an amazing time during the tasting and got so much information on the wine, the history of the vineyards, and tasted so many interesting wines! Great little shop for cheese and bread afterwards as well! Would definitely come back - the wine was delicious!

Yelp
Fantastic Winery, Great for Polo! It's impossible to understate the importance that King Family Vineyards has in my life. From being one of the first places I went to taste wine after turning 21, to the eventual place where I would marry my wife, this place holds a special place in my heart. The choices of what to talk about are plentiful, so, without further ado, I'll get down to each individual aspect that I think is excellent. The Wine Across the board, a solid list. The Seven stands out a tasty bourbon barrel-aged wine. The Crosé is a local staple, and King Family knows it. The wineroom attendents are knowledgeable, and more than willing to give you samples of wines you might be interested in. I recommend a red flight. In my humble opinion, the reds at King Family are pretty special, without going too crazy with the proce. The View Spectacular. The monumental mountain that towers of the right side of the winery is a testament to the beauty of Crozet/Charlottesville, the Appalachians, and King Family entire. There's not a single seat at the Vineyard from which you cannot appreciate this wonderful postcard-esque vantage point. The Polo If you don't mind a arriving early enough, Polo is free to fantastically fun! A great way to spend a Summer or Fall day while cheering on UVA polo. All in all, if you're looking for a place to start your Monticello Wine Trail joruney, look no further than King Family Vineyards!

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard and farm with Polo lessons & horses at certain times. We were with a large group with several young kids & this was a great place to spread out on the lawn. The food truck had basics -- spicey chicken sandwich was yumm. We purchased a Rosé brut and also their signature Rosé and both were excellent. This place is HUGE with tasting rooms & tours, although we did not try those, they appeared to be very popular.

Yelp
Such a beautiful estate. Very big and open. They have polo on Sundays during the summer. There was a cat on the premises but he died recently which is really sad.

Yelp
We went for a wine tasting. There was no information provided about the wines. You go to order the wines and take them where you want to. They were all pretty unexciting. Uninteresting. Not to be a complete wine snob. I prefer bold wines from Napa. They do have polo games there on Sundays which sound fun (at least for a few minutes). We weren't there on a Sunday. I think the area has much better wineries. Nothing personal. It's me.

Yelp
We had the honor of hearing the family story and history of the King Family Vineyards. James was a wealth of knowledge and so kind and welcoming. The tasting room ladies were wonderful and the setting was perfect for an adult outing! We cannot wait to share their wine with friends through their wine membership.

Mik Z.

Yelp
Got a private group tour and wine tasting led by James King, one of the co-owners. I'm not even interested in wine and I had a GREAT time. The scenery is incredible. James was a complete gentleman and professional, made us feel at home, was extremely knowledgeable, and took his time giving us the behind-the-scenes tour. James is a Marine Corps veteran and loves helping military vets. His integrity and the integrity of his operation really stands out. This place has an incredible story behind it which James does a great job telling. I really like this winery and this family, and am grateful we had the opportunity to meet them. Thank you James!

Yelp
Cute little place, the staff was very sweet and wine was very good! I hope to be back soon! Wine was pretty tasty

Yelp
Cute little vineyard & great hostesses with tons of seating options to includes areas of shade with their umbrellas outside & the trees they have on the property everywhere. Was really crowded but we still had great service & the lines move really quickly here too. Of course be prepared to spend some money when you go but that's expected of anywhere that's a winery. Ate the Moe's BBQ that was there on the property as well & it was great food right out of the food truck. Will be coming back!

John K.

Yelp
They lied and wasted our time. Then they laughed. So they do not waste YOUR time, closing time for tastings is 5pm and not 5:30. Do not give these people your business.

Yelp
Totally recommend polo day on Sunday. Great family and adult groups. Recommend eat or bring a picnic
google avatar

Yelp
Came here after seeing so many good things about the wine, and I'm wondering if we actually went to the right place. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance was really wonderful, and the staff were kind and helpful. The wine on the other hand was eh. I did the sparkling flight, and it was decent, but tried the red flight my fiancé got and immediately had to spit them out. Everyone at our table tried these reds and were shocked at how bad they were. I honestly couldn't tell if they were just a bad batch or the wine makers have a completely different palette than us. Either way, not worth the money they were charging for the bottles. Long story short, go for the views and sparkling wine, but steer clear from the red.

Yelp
Went to the Polo match - awesome experience. Loved the golf carts with wine and food trucks too.
google avatar

Jill F.

Yelp
A beautiful winery with many good choices. We had a white flight and a red flight and took a few bottles home. It's a lovely place and they have polo matches here on Sundays in season.
google avatar

Karla P.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere to enjoy some flights of wine! We tried a flight of red and a flight of white and both were delicious. Ended up buying one of each
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Really good wine. The reds are very good. I bought a few bottles and will go back. Got a lot of good info on the wines
google avatar

Clayton S.

Yelp
Fantastic place. One of the first wineries we visited 15 years or so ago. Great people. Beautiful views. Great wines. Large enough to comfortably accommodate many folks without feeling overly crowded. I'd go again and again.

Yelp
We had a fantastic time at our private wine tasting with Jeidy! She is an absolute GEM and made our experience so memorable. We did the $25 per person private tasting and this did NOT feel like a $25/person experience, it felt even more special than that. We were in a private room and the tasting was an hour long, with the history of the winery and each wine shared. Jeidy has such a fun yet knowledgeable personality and with the private tasting, she was not helping other parties, so we were treated so well. She even made sure to ask if we wanted photos taken! I would highly recommend booking the private tasting (with Jeidy if you can) as the cost is extremely worth the experience and attention to detail. The wines are absolutely phenomenal and we took home over a case, including Crose, Vinho Verde, Cab Franc, Meritage, and Mountain Plains. This was our second time at King Family, and we will be back again to do some of the higher-priced private tours/tastings as we felt this experience was more than worth the money.

Yelp
Even on a Saturday in late October with hundreds of people, kids and dogs in tow, this establishment gets u in and out. If you want a full tasting experience or a tasting for the yard, they have you. We opted for two tastings to take to the yard and found a just emptied table. However, if you want a guaranteed seat, bring a yard chair. There is tons of space. Even on the most crowded weekend, they know how to get you a drink and a space. Probably one of the best run wineries I have ever experienced. Looking forward to bringing the pup next time!

Jessica V.

Yelp
Fair. Did not really care if we were there or not. What is it with these overpriced wineries? Mediocre wine with bad attitude.
google avatar

Yelp
Short and Sweet Love this place!! Beautiful property, friendly staff, good food trucks, great polo! Polo Such an interesting activity to be able to "participate" in on a Sunday. There is not really anything like it in the DMV area that we have seen. I will say some of the people save spots and will spread out 3+ tents, even without their entire party present - making it frustrating for smaller parties to feel included and enjoy the festivity as the larger groups do. You can bring pop up tents, food, and chairs). Wine They have a great Roseland (bottle with polo horse) that is excellently refreshing around the Polo field. They do have a wine cart which is especially helpful when you're on the opposite side of the feel. Food They have "gourmet" food trucks and I have to say Popitos Pizza was some of - the best - pizza I've ever had. We tried the pepperoni. I could've had the whole pizza to myself it was so good. It was about $15. Closing Remarks I think we'll be back to enjoy more wine and perhaps more polo!
google avatar

Aarti M.

Yelp
I really love this family and dog friendly vineyard that has amazing sparkling wines (even by the glass) and some delicious whites in their sauv blanc and viognier. We went on polo Sunday which was fun to observe the match! It was hot out though so luckily we were able to find a spot bb the shade! Can't wait to visit again! They have snacks for purchase and usually have at least a few food trucks in the weekends.

Daisy N.

Yelp
Though we came for the polo on a Sunday, we completely missed it because we were having such a great time with the guided wine tasting. We liked the majority of the wines we tasted, the guide was full of interesting information and trivia, and the solo taster who joined our group made the experience memorable. It was our first time there and will be back, and hopefully catch the match the next time.

Kasey L.

Yelp
We had a really horrible experience. We did a bus tour to multiple wineries in Charlottesville. At King, we noticed rude service and ended up being "removed" before we were "too loud". We were a group of 15 and it was a chilly day in November. We were told to either be outside or leave. We were disappointed in our experience and will not be back.

Steve R.

Yelp
Great views, but that's it. Pretentious and rude folks. Mediocre yet overpriced wine. Worker guy came around to every group there bluntly telling everyone "We're closed!" This was 15 minutes before they even closed, mind you. Not friendly at all. Then a pretentious old woman riding her bike around did the same thing; rode up to us and rudely told us "They're closing!" Sorry we supported your business, won't happen again. So many better places around; with views just as nice or better, with nice people and better wine.
google avatar

Caryn K.

Yelp
This is a very beautiful vineyard! They were setting up for a wedding while my group was here and I can see why. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and the wine was wonderfully crafted. There was tons of outdoor seating, covered by umbrellas. Some indoor seating was available too. The wine was available by the bottle/glass/flight. I ordered a sparkling flight and was very happy with my choices. It was quick to order and transportation of your flight to your seat was easy. There were some options for food inside, but not a ton. The food truck on the day that I visited, was sushi. This was unexpected for a 93 degree day, but I wouldn't have eaten the sushi even if it was a cool day, so I won't judge that decision too harshly. Anyways, this was a wonderful find and I am very happy my group was able to swing by. We will have to come back again!
google avatar

Yelp
Feels so tucked out of the way and when following GPS to get there you think maybe you're headed nowhere- but then.... you see it and enter the gates. It is lush green and absolutely breathtaking with the mountain in the background and the green grass in the foreground. The property is so beautifully well-maintained and signage is perfect to guide you where you need to go. The parking lot was so clean as well! Upon arriving we were greeted by a cheerful hostess with a smile. We were a little early so she showed us where we could go while we waited so we were able to peruse the gift shop in the comfy and dry A/C. (It was quite humid that day and I was not about to hang out outside for too long unless I wanted gigantic hair and a sweat-soaked top. Niiiice. NOT.) While in the gift shop we did purchase some items that are perfect for unique gifts. I can't wait to gift them to some of my favorite people too! We ended up strolling around far enough to see different groups of people lounging and talking. The children seemed perfectly happy to run around the open grass (many barefoot) while their parents enjoyed some wine at their umbrella covered tables nearby. I saw some couples sitting in Adirondack chairs in the shade enjoying their wine and a few others had picnic blankets out- one couple seemed to be on a first date. Awww. In another area a group of ladies were clearly doing rounds for a bachelorette weekend. So many different types of people all having a great time chilling and relaxing with good company. I was unsure of what attire to wear to something like this, but since it was summer I decided a nice gauze ensemble with espadrilles would do the trick. (Some may read this as TMI, but many will appreciate the outfit mention.) I was right in what I chose for my outfit, btw. This place is not stuffy at all, so I saw everything from khaki shorts, sundresses, to button-down shirts with rolled-up sleeves to seersucker capris and eyelet blouses. They all fit in! The tasting started right on time and was with the infamous Ellen. When the employees found out we were the ones who were to be doing the Founder's Tasting they raved about how lucky we were to have her leading it. They were 100% correct. Not only did she remind me so very much of a very dear Aunt of mine, she had a comfortable way of explaining and teaching different wines. We were (and still are) wine novices, but she was down-to earth and very open to my questions. She encouraged me especially to come at this with an open mind and if I didn't like anything I tasted I could easily pour or spit it out in the spittoon and it wouldn't offend her one bit. We got the history of the vineyard, the story of her family, the process of how different wines are made, explanation of some positions within the winemaking industry and even got to meet her precious fur baby. Honestly, we enjoyed ourselves so much. Another thing that really stood out to me is that while there may be larger vineyards and some with way more financial backing- the King Family Vineyards was truly a labor of love started by Mrs King and her late husband Mr. King. What's even more special is their legacy of the operation is being continued through their three sons. It is important to me knowing we are supporting a hard-working, family-owned business. Will we return? You betcha! We look forward to experiencing more the next time- and bringing some friends along for the ride! In the meantime, we purchased some of their dessert wines and will enjoy them back at home with some good company!

David S.

Yelp
Just okay. Looks great if you have kids. Kind of felt we were in a daycare center with all the unattended children running around. Not for me. Wine was boring.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
This winery is so scenic! We came here on a series of hop on / hop off winery tours and I thought it was a great way to kick off the day. A couple words of wisdom though - bring water (especially if your bus tour comes with water) as you won't have to get charged for it. Leave your self enough time to wander around the property. It's so pretty that it would be a pity not to enjoy the views!
google avatar

Gloria L.

Yelp
Wow, the atmosphere here is so scenic and relaxing! We had such a great time sipping on wine and sparkling. We even got to go to their back barn area where they keep the horses, one of the horses was sweet and let us pet him. This is a must stop, if you are in the area.
google avatar

Danae L.

Yelp
I'm still a noob when it comes to finding the right glass of wine for tasting. Drier, sweeter, more tannins... still learning how use those terms correctly. I kept asking the bartender if the ending of a certain taste is what he would called 'sweet.' He explained that everyone's taste buds are different. I could tell that he was a bit offset lol. Anyway I wasn't sure what to order at first, but the customer next to me mentioned that he brings his wife here for the Crose. Looks like I'm getting a glass of Crose. It tasted 'dry' at the end but something different than the usual reds and whites that I get at the store. Outdoors seem like a great place to hang out in the fall!

Cindy B.

Yelp
It would have been nice to hear something about their wine from a person instead of the self service and phone app information. Beautiful setting, skip the wine. Only option is a red flight or a white flight! Can't speak for whites! Why not offer a combined flight?
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Beautiful setting, and the wine isn't priced bad. You can get tasting flights of both reds and whites. We went on a Sunday afternoon so there was polo going on, and still ample parking and space for seating. Be warned though, there is not a food menu at all here so bring your own if you need lunch or a snack. There are a few picnic type foods available for purchase out of a cooler that are way overpriced. Because of the polo going on food trucks we're on site but if you want food from them get there early, between the wait time and the demand you may or may not get food.
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
We had a great visit here! The wine was delicious, our wine steward was Anna-she was SO kind! The views are beautiful! Would recommend!
google avatar

Marley P.

Yelp
I present the picnic and winery combo. Today for a bday party we picked up some sliced meats ($15, we picked a large combo plate) from Wegman's w some fresh bread (that was still warm ), olives and pickles. I packed up some fruit and veggies from home and we had ourselves a grand ole time at @kingfamilyvineyards . Though it wasn't a date, it was really fun and affordable. The flights start at $10 and there is ample seating space, plus large fields to picnic on. I really liked the rose. They allow outside food, I recommend stopping by a grocery store on your way out and laying out on the lawn, sunning and snacking. If you go during the season, they have free polo matches. T'was a fun birthday party and a good activity for a date or just for hanging with friends. Living next to all these wineries, it's definitely worth exploring. Plus you can't beat the view. Follow @MarleyRecs on Instagram to see more!
google avatar

Margaret G.

Yelp
What a great place! Food truck, wine tastings and group gatherings with friends/family. Bring a blanket and enjoy the view, little ones even enjoy running around the field. I only got to try their sparkling wine and it was very good!
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
I really like this winery! For one I love that they have two cats in the lobby that are so cute but I really like their V! I also like that on Sunday's the have polo matches, not being from Virginia I've never experienced a polo match so that was fun! The atmosphere is great and you can bring in your own food.

Yelp
King Family is a favorite of ours and we visit often- so why is it only now that I am writing a review? It is absolutely because of Jaidy - "Heidi with a J!" We had so much fun having our tasting with Jaidy. First- she knows her stuff- but she's also a lot of fun, laid back, easy to chat with- we can't wait to come back and see her again! The wine was as delicious and consistent as always! We love the Brut and Meritage!
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
The first time I went to King Family was on a bachelorette weekend for my sister. I loved it so much I make my husband take me here every time we do a weekend getaway outside of Charlottesville. It is literally one of my favorite wineries by far. Their wine quality is literally one of the best and the idyllic setting is just a cherry on top. Outdoor space is great so I highly recommend visiting in the fall or spring to get the full effect. All the staff are super nice and friendly. Highly recommend the tasting and then grab a bottle of wine and enjoy the scenery.

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
The wine is good, but there is a serious problem with the staff. They were extremely rude and off-putting to our entire party the whole duration of our visit. I'm not sure I see myself returning.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
The wine was terrible. The service was bad. We were not greeted upon entry. We bought 2 wine tastings, took them to a table we found, and no one came to ask us if we needed anything, or wanted to buy some wine. Worst wine tasting ever.
google avatar

Alesa W.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came on a Monday afternoon for wine tastings. They were very on top of ensuring safe practices for visitors, including: face masks required when purchasing, hand sanitization, one-way doors to the bathroom. Tasting was pretty affordable for 5 different wines to try, and the outdoor seating (which was very well spaced out) was the perfect spot to enjoy them. My boyfriend who is not much of a drinker even liked the Viognier and Cabernet. Great spot!
google avatar

Alice J.

Yelp
A beautiful vineyard in an idyllic setting. Super friendly and professional. Staff wore masks and practiced social distancing. Clear signage throughout. Guests here wore masks too even outdoors. They offered wine by the bottle or by the glass, and had a very nice setup. Out front there was a food truck offering tater tots and simple burgers. It was great for a weekend lunch time visit. We brought our own picnic and bought wine from them.
