Google
This is a Chinese takeout spot!! I ordered two dinner meals and they included a free soda. I called a few minutes earlier for pickup and when I arrived they had it ready for me. The lady who was in the front was very kind and sweet. Great price, $9.50 each plate better than most Chinese takeout spots. Food was warm and cooked correctly. Would recommend for cheap eats in UWS. Thank you

Google
If you're looking for a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, this is the place. The perfect amount of grunge that NYC is known for makes this a hit. Awesome greasy noodles and chicken wings seriously kick a hangovers butt! The dumplings rocked. The egg rolls were delicious. Everything was so freaking good. Top that off with killer prices. IYKYK. This is top tier Chinese food!

Google
This place serves yummy Chinese food. The service is excellent. The staff is quick, but almost robotic. The price increased a bit, please don't change the prices, but the quality and portions are great. I will definitely try them again. If you have not yet tried them, give them a try!

Google
Legit classic NYC chinese take out -- honestly it's so good and at their prices I really can't complain. Generous servings and flavors are spot on, very consistent.

Google
Your classic NYC neighborhood Chinese takeout / delivery spot. No frills, good food, fast service, sizeable portions, and reasonable prices. Value for money, hard to beat this place.

Google
Kiwi view: pretty standard local Chinese in NYC. By home standards not that good. But local standards pretty good. It's good value for the price. They cook it fresh. Good sizes for the large orders.

Google
0 stars if i could. Chicken with feathers, rice flavorless and barely any pork —- I hate doing bad reviews but i ordered my usual favorite - wings and pork fried rice. This was the first time getting food here, i usually order at another local store when im in the mood for chinese takeout. But my chicken pieces were poorly cleaned, there were feathers poking out of the fried skin and of 4 pieces, 3 had feathers. My appetite was gone. And fried rice is my fave , so i was sad when this order was flavorless and soggy, and there were hardly any pieces of pork. No veggies or sprouts or anything either. Boring and disappointing. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly, the food was ready fast. And the price was fair. But of course I won’t be back because I can’t get over the feathers!

Google
I used to visit this place all the time when I lived in the neighborhood, but it's changed. It was cheap, but it was also not delicious and used strange ingredients. Lemon chicken was basically poorly breaded chicken nuggets with lemon sauce, and the low mein used the strangest noodles I've ever tasted in Chinese food. I'm bummed I wasted my rare Chinese food indulgence on this meal.

Alyssa K.

Yelp
Greasy Americanized Chinese food that is solid to pretty good. I recommend the general tso chicken and the beef and broccoli lunch specials. The egg drop soup was nothing special but still solid. Nothing was disappointing. The best value I've found on the UWS thus far and a large quantity of food at affordable prices- $10 for a meal plus soup or can of soda. Plus free delivery! Staff are nice and delivery was fast. Would order take out again and recommend others to try.

Yelp
All good things! Fast Yummy Kind service Frsh and hot Ideal prices To go is great. Can actually make a better informed decision...

Alexandra J.

Yelp
3.5 Solid cheap Chinese. Not amazing but tasty enough and inexpensive. Had the General Tso's and sweet and sour chicken. Worst part is you have to call them to order.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
It is what it purports to be - not haute cuisine but budget friendly, tasty food. Sometimes, the dumplings are all the meal I need.

Al B.

Yelp
Had highs for this place, but sorry to say it is cheap food with an aftertaste that will send you running for the Tums. Additional notes, this is not really an eat in place, as the broken down chairs and tables are more for waiting then eating. My suggestion unfortunately, is to take the B train down to Chinatown , as Chinese food is lacking in the area.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
The combo chow fun is delicious here and comes with chicken, shrimp, and bbq pork, as well as onions and veggies! The kung pao chicken was delicious as well. We also tried the shrimp and veggie stir fry dishes. They included egg rolls with the meal which was a great starter!

Deanna L.

Yelp
This is the classic American greasy Chinese. It's not fancy, it's not about customer service or decor it's a classic Chinese take out place that will hit the flavor cravings for that specific category. It's not "authentic" it's Americanized in what we expect from quick and cheap Chinese: it hits the spot. Chicken broccoli is great, veggie lo Mein, all dishes are good value. All lunch specials come w soup or soda. If you want a more refined dining experience, go for Asian fusion there are so many in the area. But for greasy Chinese it's the spot

Kyle M.

Yelp
This place is absolutely disgusting. Fried rice has zero vegetables or ingredients, literally just yellow rice with slimy, undercooked shreds of chewy chicken. Terrible. Also if jack in the box makes a better egg roll than your Chinese restaurant you've got a real problem. Order from anywhere else.

Mary M.

Yelp
Nope. I ordered takeout while hanging with a friend and after four bites went to yelp to make sure I never order from here again. Egg roll was basically just a half-filled fried shell. I've never been more grateful for the delicious Chinese takeout in my neighborhood. Beef and broccoli barely had any sauce to it. What a bummer.

Jing K.

Yelp
A solid Chinese American takeout like you would find in many neighborhoods. I would give Totten an extra star for being able to remain open whole most Chinese takeout restaurants in NYC have closed during this pandemic. The pork fried rice was moist and not dry. The general tso chicken was crispy and moist but could use a little less sauce which was overflowing and more heat.

J T.

Yelp
Damn, some of y'all are snobs. This is a great value and good food. I got garlic chicken, came I a full quart container, tons of broccoli and chicken, midly spicy sauce, with included rice for I think $11.25. You'd be lucky to get an app around here anywhere else. Lady at the counter was helpful and came around the glass to clarify my order, offered sauces, etc. If you've got a problem with the food or the service here - get over yourself.

Shweta M.

Yelp
Amazing food at super cheap price. Free delivery if you live within 10 blocks. Small place with an extensive menu. They make small portions too, which still takes me 2 days to finish. My go to spot for quick take out dinner.

Christopher C.

Yelp
This is a UWS hidden gem. To give you an idea, my father missed this place when he was living in China!!! Also as a Chinese person, I WOULD call this authentic Chinese food in that it's American-Chinese food, just like how Sichuan-Chinese or Cantonese-Chinese food is Chinese food. Regional flairs and variations, but the same cooking style at heart with bold flavors and hearty food. It doesn't look like much when you walk inside, but the food and amazing prices make up for it by far. I've been coming here for 20 years. For $23, I got the Beef Chow Ho Fun and 3 orders of chicken wings (4 full wings each), plus 2 free egg rolls. Super juicy and crispy wings. I was in the area so I had to get a big order so there's enough for tomorrow. See my picture of my overstuffed Tupper Ware (: The wing sizes are consistently large and they get marinated in something which gives them the perfect balance of savory goodness. I personally feel they have they are among the best wings I've had. The ho fun has generous portions of beef and is soft, just like it should be. Not sure what other people are taking about with these low reviews, but all I've ever received is friendly and fast service (both in person/phone). I don't speak much Chinese and I usually order over the phone, and they never got my order wrong or misunderstood me.

Yelp
King Food - what has happened to you? YOU have been my GO TO spot for more than 3 decades (when you made food across the street:) and the JEWEL in your crown was consistency - always the same terrific food and tastes delivered over and over - never a bad day or bad meal! UNTIL NOW... are there new owners or has someone decided that cutting corners would fly with your loyal cult? I ordered recently and here's the sitch: 1. The once delicious perfectly seasoned sesame noodles that you could score for free if you ordered enough & they could barely close the lid it was bursting with noodles and packed with sauce. NOW - there was half an order in the container. It was made of SPAGHETTI noodles??? YUCK! and the sauce-where was the SESAME SAUCE? it was a whisper - no bueno! 2-Sweet & sour chicken - delivered as 2 separate components - nuggets of chicken fried to perfection in a non-overbearing coating that made them a delight. Full sauce in a separate small deli container - zingy, thick and sweet & sour. NOW - the chicken is literally a shred of chicken in pancake or bisquick batter (which is AWFUL) so thick it is a quest to find the chicken. The container of chix used to be bursting out of the box-not now! The sauce was only 1/2 filled which was a real downer because they had also WATERED down the sauce so now it could not cover the chicken bits. We ended up throwing both dishes away...no point in the waisted calories. I'm hoping this was a one time hiccup because we LOVE you King FOOD! My family has grown up with you - COME BACK!

Yelp
This restaurant will mess up your order and won't honor a refund. Have had the wrong order three times and didn't realize it until after I got home of course. Got served leftover rice while order was still missing the main dish. GARBAGE establishment. Steer clear !!

Elyse S.

Yelp
I enjoy the eggrolls... both the shrimp And the regular pork. I tried a few other dishes and it is typical take out. Nothing to write home about...

Lori K.

Yelp
I should have asked this question, and I didn't. Because I have never had chicken chow mein made with dark meat, it didn't occur to me to ask. Here's the skin, fat and inedible meat that I've spent 30 minutes cutting out. The irony is that the food is really tasty. But now it's cold.

Norman G.

Yelp
So I decided to try again and what do I get? Moo-shu pork with a few barely seen slivers of pork. $11 plus tip and tax in the garbage. Learned my lesson this time. Note to management...if you want to save money don't skimp on the food. ..give me less condiments and plastic cutlery , most go in the garbage also.

Trunature T.

Yelp
I ordered four wings actually fried hard with shrimp fried rice and beef the chicken still is red when I call and told them that the chicken was not all the way done she tells me she fried it twice now I know how to cook chicken and I know damn well this is not fried well done

Yelp
Met a friend for 1130a.m. Thursday lunch. Rather than Sarabeth's, I saw this restaurant while walking by, the "A" health code sticker on the window, folks seated & eating, so I stopped to give it a try. I thought it was a classic sit-down restaurant. But I was surprised to see the pictures above the order counter; it's a place to order, take out or eat in. I ordered special chicken lo mein and shrimp egg fu young. Lunch specials are $6.95 each and include a cup of sweet tea. The food was fresh and hot. Plenty of shrimp in the egg fu young. Not greasy. Lo mein satisfying, if bland. Comfort food delight. Between noon and 1p.m. folks came in for orders, most of them taking food out. They deliver in the neighborhood.

Michelle L.

Yelp
I was a little nervous of ordering takeout because these reviews are pretty bad. Don't let the haters fool you! King Food is awesome! I got garlic chicken and egg roll and dumplings. It came with a free soda and was only $15 with free delivery. To me that's an INSANE deal. Chinese takeout is wat over priced in this city, so it's refreshing to finally find a place that charges a fair price. The chicken is very tender and it came with yellow rice which was awesome. More places should use yellow rice!

Stephanie E.

Yelp
I'm not going to sugar coat it because a Chinese American take out place is exactly what you get when you're looking for cheap and satisfying. As a member of the Asian culture I tend to stick to the simple items like chicken or beef with broccoli and any kind of lo mein and staying away from the overly sauced items. Their lo mein is really good actually - not too oily, great flavor, and plenty to share. Each one of these Chinese food restaurants is a staple in each neighborhood and this is the one I order from when I'm in the area for delivery because they're cheap, friendly, and their food is as written on the menu with no surprises and tbh no food critic will be stopping by any time soon. But since my home is chinatown I've got a high standard to base my review on. Thus the 3 star.

Yanell A.

Yelp
Woman at the front taking orders is beyond rude. She yells, speaks super quickly, all making it very difficult to understand her and gets upset when you ask her to repeat herself. Overall nasty attitude.

AlmaGrace S.

Yelp
Came here late one night to order food for take out and ended up eating dinner in too. The lady at the counter is very nice and friendly. Had the chicken lo mein, and Fried chicken wings with home made iced tea for free. The wait wasn't too long although we were quite startled by the men re arranging and cleaning the place because they were quite loud and one of them dropped cans on the floor while arranging it on the freezer. The quality of the food was okay, chicken was crispy and the lo mein well, I didnt had the chance to eat it. Anyways, I was happy everything ended well, esp when they took my card as payment coz I ddnt had cash in my pocket.

Shabhia A.

Yelp
Wish I could give this place negative stars. I ordered beef with broccoli and the beef tasted like expired hormonal chicken with no actual taste. I'm throwing it all out.

Nykita S.

Yelp
My first time ordering for delivery and VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! My food was carried upside down so sauce was all over everything, the bbq sauce for the fries was good but the general tos chicken is terrible! Usually it's a bit crispy with a fantastic hot and sweet sauce....theirs are soggy and dry with very little sauce. I called and they offered a discount on my next order. That's terrible because I NEVER WANT TO ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN! I am legit PISSED!! The store is too far for me to walk to and now I'm stocked with this crap ASS food. Please save your money and DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would.

Jermaine B.

Yelp
A decent American Chinese restaurant. Although they have several tables to sit and eat, I'd recommend takeout. Pretty reasonable prices, especially considering the neighborhood. Big fan of their lunch special, which comes with a generous portion of food along with a drink. Chicken wings are pretty good as well. Delivery can be hit or miss. Some days super fast, other days quite slow.

Benjamin L.

Yelp
I've been to this new UWS Chinese restaurant about 6 times now, and find it quite decent with average prices. . The place is bright and looks clean; more inviting than half the other small Chinese restaurants in the area. The open kitchen allows you to see the food being prepared. While they have 4-5 large tables, it's really more of a to-go place. This is evident by the continuously ringing phone as you stand there waiting to give your order.

Matthew U.

Yelp
Food: I ordered a small Roast Pork Lo Mein. Portion size was good, and the food quality was good but nothing special. It wasn't overly oily or too much sauce. The Roast Pork slices were extremely thin and not very well portioned. Service: There's a menu showing coupons on the front desk. There's a coupon for a free egg roll on orders of $10 or more. My order was $11 and change. I was given a water bottle. I pointed to the coupon and asked for the egg roll, and the woman at the front said that would be an additional $1.50. I pointed to the coupon, and she responded that it's either a drink or egg roll (menu does NOT mention a drink). I said I would take the egg roll, and she responded that it would take over 5 minutes. This was after I had mentioned that I had an Uber outside waiting for me. There were tons of egg rolls already cooked waiting to go in plain sight behind the woman. One thing you don't want to see in the food & beverage industry and that's lack of transparency. It was clear the woman wanted to give a water bottle away instead of a egg roll at the menu states. Overall: Food gets 3 stars, service gets 1 for lying to customer and using deceptive practices, so that's gets me to the 2 star rating. There are plenty of other very similar Chinese take out spots, which don't mislead customers within a several block radius.

Kayla M.

Yelp
The lady at the counter is very rude and unprofessional. She was upset because I wanted to change my order because they started cooking it. They refried the chicken wings I ordered and gave them to me. They were very small, burnt on the outside, and yellow on the inside from all the peanut oil they used to recook my chicken. I was very disappointed because I paid $7.10 for this crap. I will never go there again!

Alfredo D.

Yelp
I rarely am in the mood for cheap, greasy, American Chinese food... But when I get the craving I expect places like this to deliver a consistent quality. All I can say is that I was not impressed. The fried imitation crabsticks were limp, the house special fried rice was not very special and it was on the pricey side for what we ordered.

Laila D.

Yelp
This is 4 stars for tasty American Chinese food (not authentic chinese food but awesome for what it is!). We ordered shredded pork with scallions (the winner! Has a nice kick of spice but not overly spicy and not greasy). We also got ginger chicken with these delicious small tasty black mushrooms: also a winner and delicious and not greasy. Ok the eggplant was more greasy (obviously) since it's fried but very well cooked and the sauce was memorable and tasty. If you spend more than $20 there's a coupon on the menu for a free cold noodle which we got (delicious cold sesame noodle, yum!). We also got a large wonton soup which was tasty with a homemade broth.

Bailey L.

Yelp
New job location so this was my first chinese take out experience in the area of west 79st. I ordered the Beef n Broc combo subsituted soup for egg roll extra 75 cents but ok and also a order of chicken wings. Order for delivery which came fast and food was nice and hot. The wings were very good crispy the way I like them. This was a good sign but turned out the chicken was the only good thing I got. The Beef n Broc lacked flavor and the rice was also kind of a odd color and lacking any flavor. The wonton soup which I had later was also terrible it tasted like chicken broth out of a box with nothing added. The wontons also tasted strange not what I am used to and trust me I have had alot of chinese take out in my day. The search goes on to find a place to get take out still while I am on this job site

Hayley C.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE. I ordered orange chicken and chicken fried rice both of which will keep me away from this place. The chicken in the fried chicken was NOT cooked and there was a METAL SCREW in the orange chicken. When I called to tell them, all I got was "next time I will give you a discount". Nope, there will never be a next time.

Hawk A.

Yelp
The Shredded Pork was only average, but the Hot and Sour Soup was the 2nd best in the city after Wo Hop's. Who knew?

Alex S.

Yelp
Rat ran passed my foot last night in this restaurant. Was about to eat their food but just asked for money back and ran out the door.

Ken P.

Yelp
I had to chime in here. I live in the neighborhood and have ordered from them many times in the last 5 years. It's good economical Chinese food I find the vegetables fresh and you get quite a lot to eat. Makes for great left overs. Favs are Chicken with Brocoli, Happy Family, The Wonton soup. I have paid much more $$$ in NYC and not been as happy with King Food Chen.

Kirsten S.

Yelp
King Food Chen beat out King Food Pan in the struggle for existence on the Upper West Side, and fortunately this one is even closer to me than the former Pan was... but I had still never gone until a late night of (what at the time seemed like) starvation. I desperately ordered an extra-large shrimp fried rice, which came quickly but without any shrimp. I noticed because they charged me so little, so they took it back (at this point, I was feeling faint) and added the shrimp in quickly. It was hot, tasty (though it needed lots of soy sauce), and filling (probably due to the fact that it was basically all rice and shrimp and no veggies). I scarfed down about a quarter of the container and simply could not eat any more. I have happily been living off of it for a couple of days now. Biggest downside I can think of: no fortune cookie.

Mila B.

Yelp
This is my favorite UWS Chinese place. Delicious food for the great price. Plus fast service!

Ashlee M.

Yelp
The delivery is lightning fast, the food is good, and it's cheap. What else could you want from chinese delivery? Favorites: -Cold Sesame Noodles -Chicken with Tomato and Peppers -Mu Shu Pork -General Tso Chicken -Egg rolls (the freebies) The good things on the menu outweigh the bad... but just in case you're wondering, here's a couple of things I didn't like much that I've tried: -Sweet and sour chicken (and what ever else sweet and sour... it tastes a little too much like Jell-o) -Pineapple chicken (could be more pineapple, and less sauce and water chestnuts.)

Ike V.

Yelp
I'm a dirty chinese food hero - whenever I move to a neighborhood - I'll spend WEEKS ordering in from EVERY chinese place that will deliver to me - I gauge the food on these dishes: Fried Dumplings BBQ Fried Chicken Wings (some places don't have them - VERY americanized.. I know). Beef Lo Mein Chicken with Broccoli or Gen Tso Chicken Chicken with Eggplant in Garlic Sauce - (if you've never had this dish, you MUST order it... it's sweet and savory and DELICIOUS (if it's done well)). (I live with my gf so we usually order dinner and enough for leftovers for lunch). Although this place deserves about 3.5 stars compared to some of the best places I've had, it's the best chinese on the Upper West Side... We live on 100st so anything under 80st won't deliver... I've read some good reviews about some places a bit lower. I've tried about 8-10 different places, and this one is by far the best - the sauces taste the best, the meat is decent quality (not great) and they deliver FAST! Def worth getting if you're in need of some greasy goodness.

Bill M.

Yelp
A supposedly American style Chinese takeout in NYC that can't even pull together something that remotely resembles pork fried rice has absolutely no business existing. I'm utterly amazed that anyone could like this place.

N. M.

Yelp
Quick feel-good Chinese food that's easy on the wallet. Except for the fortune cookies, which are no longer free and now cost .40¢? Anyway, as some other people have said, some dishes are better than others. The General Tso's chicken - good. Roast Pork Chow Mein - not so much. It was more like a pile of half sauteed onions with a piece of pork and carrot here and there. Pass on that. Is it the best Chinese food I've ever had? No. Is it authentic? Hell no. This is just really easy and tasty I'm-going-to-lay-in-my-pajamas-all-day type of Chinese take-out place.

Natasha K.

Yelp
This place is great! I had pretty low expectations for a Chinese take-out place, but the food is fresh, tasty, cheap, and not too greasy. I ordered: hot and sour soup: tasty and piping hot! Lots of mushrooms and flavorful ingredients eggplant in garlic sauce: tasty and fresh Shrimp Chow Mei Fun: great noodles, not too greasy This is not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but considering that this is fast, cheap, and really tasty Chinese food in a desert of quality Asian food, I would highly recommend it. I'll definitely be coming back!

Fitz D.

Yelp
This is right up the middle around the corner Chinese food. We are walking home from a movie on Christmas night and went to get quick, cheap, Chinese.

Robert H.

Yelp
What you see is what you get. It is American influenced Chinese food on the upper west side. Prices are really low and the food is always of good quality. They deliver quickly and are always pleasant to deal with. I've been going here for years and have never been disappointed.

Chris L.

Yelp
I recently moved to the city and have been looking for good Chinese food places. Finally I stumbled across King's and I am ecstatic that I did. The Chinese food here is some of the best I have had in the city. Delivery is pretty fast and the eggrolls are everything I want. So happy to have found this restaraunt.

Samantha S.

Yelp
The positive is it was fast delivery. And accurate. We ordered the beef and broccoli and general tso chicken...I wish we liked it. The truth. We strongly disliked it. Would recommend anyplace else.

Dave G.

Yelp
I think this is the first time I ordered from here or at least the first time I'm rating it...We ordered the hot and spicy chicken... Tasty but not very spicy at all. Then we got the shrimp with lobster sauce, my girlfriend thought it was a little salty, but I liked it. Also had two eggrolls which I thought they were both good. So I'd say a little better than average for your dinky little takeout Chinese food place but I would order from again when sitting home watching movies.
