The 38 Best Restaurants in Dublin, Ireland | Eater

"Lobsters, shrimp, prawns, and crab come directly from a handful of local boats at this casual restaurant in the coastal village of Howth, a 30-minute train journey from the city center. At this relaxed space with plenty of nautical nods, tuck into unfussy dishes of shellfish bisque, crab salad, and fish and chips. Vibe check: With blankets on hand and a little cabin roof overhead, the outdoor tables are as pleasant on a chilly day as when the sun shines." - Corinna Hardgrave

Ireland Is Now One of the Best Places to Visit for Seafood Lovers

"A family-run harbor eatery and guesthouse on Howth with an outdoor terrace overlooking the breakers and Ireland’s Eye; the lunch menu leans on day-boat catches and includes freshly shucked oysters with mignonette, mussels in a creamy garlicky white-wine-and-leek broth, and buttery Dublin Bay prawns, reflecting a long local supply chain of small wooden skiffs and curraghs." - Taras Grescoe

Spent a lovely overnight here last week. Perfect location right on the shore and easy walk anywhere in the village. Beds and room were comfortable and clean. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. We would absolutely stay here again. Had dinner in the restaurant - best lobster we've ever eaten. All seafood fresh from local fishermen in the local sea. Superb. Be sure to take a boat trip, and do the Cliff Walk. One of our favorite places on our trip. Thanks King Sitric!

Cozy place! Great service! But the food was the real highlight! The sauces, the top-quality fresh seafood, absolutely outstanding! One of the best shrimp dishes I’ve ever had! The oysters were divine and fresh, chilled, and served with a perfect vinaigrette! The gluten-free bread was delicious! Words fall short to express just how incredible the food was! A special thank-you to Chef *Leonardo* who masterfully leads the kitchen and ensures excellence in every dish and the overall experience!

Google
Loved our stay at the King Sitric, location was perfect right at the end of the busier/visited areas so it was quite quiet, great nights sleep with comfy beds, beautiful view outside. Easy check-in, they arranged a taxi to the airport for us which was very helpful as foreigners. Right out the door you can walk down the piers/harbor, right close to shops/restaurants, to the east you've got the cliff paths which were just stunning around Howth. The oysters were some of the best I've ever had, food was really outstanding. Great breakfast. Really enjoyed our stay.

This is one of the best fine dining experiences you will find in the Dublin area. Pick anything from the menu - you will not be disappointed. The "let us do everything for you" lobster was so good that I don't think I can ever order lobster anywhere else. Maine lobster has nothing on this Irish delicacy. The prawns, mussels and oysters were incredible starters. The servers were all SO hospitable, but Jack was the absolute best. He recommended the black sole which was out of this world (check out the before and after below!). We also stayed at King Sitric. The rooms were comfortable, cozy and absolutely adorable! Plus, the views are incredible. Definitely come to Howth and stay and eat at King Sitric!!

We ate at King Sitric today for lunch. We were served by a lovely young man named Ben, he was polite, professional and had a fantastic attitude, he is perfect for hospitality. The food was wonderful. We had tempura prawns, they were delicious, the chicken wings were very nice and the nicest chips. Fabulous little spot with beautiful views. Very busy I would advise you book!

Google
Both the food and service were excellent. The fish was so fresh it must have jumped straight from the ocean into the frying pan. The batter on the fish was light and crispy. The monkfish was served with a leek and cream sauce with a light drizzle of olive oil that was savory without overpowering the fish. Every server was attentive and friendly. I could eat here every day.

King Sitric had lovely seafood! I tried the shrimps and the calamari - both so soft and very tasty. The service was great. My friends really enjoyed their meals as well. I also liked the oat flat white - made barista style, really impressed me :) will definitely come again. Highly recommend trying it out and also making a reservation.

We went here after a boat tour and wow! The John Dory and the crab were fantastic! Everything was so fresh and our food came very quickly. The waitress was super friendly and when the temperature dropped (we were sitting outside) she offered us blankets. The dessert here was good as well.

Yelp
If you in the mood for some freshest seafood and want some coastal scenery with it come to Howth only 35 min train ride from Dublin. King Sitric delivers amazing seafood. Oysters delicious, prawns melt in your mouth and lobster roll was plentiful. Pair it with Carlsberg and you got yourself a great lunch. Staff was polite and attentive. We set on the covered patio to enjoy the view.

Yelp
What a wonderful establishment!!! I was greeted by warm and welcoming staff and seated promptly! The staff here is very warm and upbeat! The ambiance of this establishment gives me nautical vibes, with a cozy and comforting energy as well! For my starter, I ordered calamari! It came with a delicious aioli dipping sauce! The calamari was nice and fresh, and I sprinkled some lemon juice overtop the calamari before digging in! They were gone just as fast as the dish came out! For my main course, I ordered a lobster roll with chips! The lobster roll was extremely delicious and juicy! With lots of texture and bite! It beat the lobster rolls that i've had in Maine hands down! The chips added a nice touch to each and every bite! I was in absolute paradise! With each bite my endorphins were boosted! Woo lawd! I left very satisfied! Check this place out! Cheers to good eats!

Yelp
Mahogany brown coloured Hake and chips, as hard as the timber. Cod was also overcooked and the fried potatoes no better. The Chowder contained a spoonful of potato and onion and a single piece of fish; Pollock the menu said, but who knows..?. .Is there no nutmeg on the peninsula. 1 Glass of wine E9 and a tin of 00 beer at E6 coming to E79 An altogether forgettable experience but one I shall remember not to repeat.

Yelp
A must visit place in Howth! Got this suggestion from social media, and could not be happier with my experience. Would highly recommend to anyone coming to Ireland. Food is very fresh and staff were great. We learned a lot about the town of Howth. The restaurant also has a B and B on top. Fish and chips were superior as well as the soup.

Yelp
Overall, probably 3+. Some things were really good (4), but one item was pretty bad. I had the fish and chips and shrimp bisque. My friend had the sole, which was delicious. It was perfectly cooked. The meat tasted really fresh. It was smooth and moist. Very nice. The fish and chips was breaded (vs. battered). I requested the tempura batter (which is what they use for the fish sandwich... odd). I suspect they forgot, which is ok. The crust was still good. The chips tasted like they had been left out, not too bad but not fresh. The really disappointing item was the bisque. It was really bad. It looked really thin and tasted like water. There was no depth of flavor, no shrimp flavor (and no shrimp). It just tasted red. If that's a flavor. The soup was so bad, it must have been a mistake. It was inexcusably bad.

Yelp
What a wonderful spot. Came for two days before heading to Dublin. We stayed all the way at the top in the fernside room and it was so quaint and pleasant. Tea/coffee/cookies & chocolates provided along with the usual soaps, robes etc. The staff could not have been nicer and so very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast in the am was extremely relaxing and the young girl who worked it was super nice and accommodating. I would recommend this place hands down. View of the ocean was magical. The restaurant/seafood bar excellent. Lovely and a true treat, thank you!!!!!

Yelp
This is a great destination place to get away from Dublin congestion. Situated at the end of the pier overlooking the harbor in the fishing village of Howth, the view can't be beat. There are hotel rooms, which is a new addition that took place with the remodeling of 1999. Somehow the charm of the old building was lost in the remodeling. The dining room now is a bit too sterile for me; however the food is quite good. Take the black sole on the bone, as you'll find the meat is sweeter. My dining companions were not as adept as me in handling the fish, so they had theirs' deboned and it was just not as appetizing to me. Good wine list to match the food, great views to add to the ambiance.

Yelp
Had King Sitric on our list of places to eat after watching the well known Anthony Bourdain glorify it on The Layover. I'm not sure what the recent reviews of bad service are all about but I would have to say the waitresses and bartenders were more than accommodating, friendly, and gave 110%. I'm going to be dreaming of the mussels and seafood chowder until our next visit to Howth. 5 Stars all around!

Yelp
I have been dreaming of visiting this restaurant since 2018 but Covid delayed my trip. I was following their social media and excited to finally arrive. I have to say I was truly impressed and it was exactly as I imagined. The staff was so kind and attentive! The food was so fresh and excellent!!!! The Kelly's Oysters were to die for, we also had the lobster and for the land lovers like my husband, he said it was the best burger ever. I highly recommend.

Yelp
We stayed the night before we flew home. Not next to the airport but a pretty quick drive. Plus you get the sea coast, a great place to stay, and a great restaurant. There is a handy walk around the sea wall and many nearby shops They did have some super premium grade Middleton's whisky for $315 per shot! My palate isn't trained to that level nor my wallet! Somebody had been drinking it though Great place

Yelp
Great!!! Grilled lobster (served with fried potatoes and butter) is delicious!! Reccomended! The staff is very kind and friendly. At the end the bill is right for the quality food, 25 euros a lobster.

Yelp
King Sitric is in a prime location at Howth harbour. It has a great terrace out front and inside is a pretty cool restaurant and bar area (although maybe a bit on the small side). There is a more formal area upstairs where the view must be great. As is to be expected, the menu was mainly fish based, the lobster looked pretty great. However, I wasn't really happy with my dish. I got the chowder and fishcake, which was beautifully presented like all there dishes. The fishcake was ok, it was mostly potato and I couldn't see or taste much fish. The chowder was better and had a good selection of fish. However, as chowders go it wasn't anything special and there was a bit too much potato in it too. The service was very good and the plate of food set me back €10, which I felt was reasonable. Oh, the Guinness here was really good.

Yelp
We just stopped into Howth today and found this place. It is awesome!! The fish is incredibly fresh and was cooked perfectly. The menu looks delicious and the staff is extremely friendly.

Yelp
Rude Waiter in in Restaurant, also Reception. Food not of a high standard and not great variety. 2 lights not working in bedroom and sink plug also not working. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Howth has almost a resort feel to it. This property has a couple of restaurants and a few guest rooms. It's not a modern place but it's kept up quite nice. Breakfasts that come with the room are amazing. Beautiful view. Seagulls are quite noisy, but that adds to the charm. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. Stayed September 2016, traveled as a couple

Yelp
Service with an uneasy smile... Came here for a quiet dinner with the mam mostly to get away from Dublin City but also for the famous seafood, decided to give it a bash! We were greeted upstairs by a waiter who later took our order, and was very pleasant to deal with but right after he greeted us another lady came to greet us. Again? Really? She seemed too chatty, no idea why. View was great! Menu wasn't really. Nothing special to be honest and not a huge selection. The service on the other hand, was. The waiter was happy enough going through a few things with us and telling me about the specials (that the chatty lady had already mentioned, of course). Food didn't take too long which was great and in between we were treated to a free glass of smoothie. But the lady came over once again to tell us we needed to have dinner first before we could have a look at the dessert menu. Found that a little condescending but meh, let it slide and I think she got the hint to leave us alone for the rest of the evening. The main course did seem fresh and well prepared. The dessert was presented nicer than it actually tasted which was a pity, seemed like a let down at the very end. Before seeing the bill at the end of the night I would have considered coming back again but when it came to pay I found it hard to justify the price with the food we'd gotten.

Yelp
Fail. Here's why the cafe we visited will only ever get one off patronage and not business from locals on a sustained basis. Poor customer service: inattentive staff, sloppily dressed. 4 other guests walked out because they were being ignored. Constantly clattering dishes and cups at the counter. I was ignored when i asked for desert menu because 3 of the staff were too engaged in conversation. Average Food: lobster salad for 17 euro could really have been a bit more flattering. lobster was tough.

Pierre R.

Yelp
I don't like to post negative reviews. Not very welcoming. US my US born kids with American accents might have caused slow service. Guests who arrived after us got served long before. Kids chicken tenders were burnt. No one ever comes back to table to see if you want anything. We had to get up and get our own water. We never got an offer to replace burnt food and we were charged full price for a dish that could bot be humanly consumed.

Yelp
On our last night in Ireland after a nearly two-week stay, we had fish and chips and Guinness on an outdoor picnic table here. It was wonderful...a great crumby crunch on the fish that we didn't find anywhere else during our two-week visit to Ireland. And ice cream served next door was a wonderful dessert. The views here are spectacular. Howth is a wonderful place. Leave time to do the cliff walk. Go here if you can.

Yelp
King Sitric is a quaint small restaurant in Howth. It is supposed to be a very good restaurant for seafood. Unfortunately it fails miserably at being a seafood restaurant must less a decent restaurant. Longs waits, inattentive staff and poor food quality. The seafood platter for two at 40 euros was a bad excuse for seafood. There was some crab claws, mushy shrimp, shredded cold crab that looked like it came from a can and finally some cold smoked salmon that I could have picked up at the local grocery store. This platter was a bad excuse for a seafood platter and the restaurant should either close or provide quality considering the cost. Do not waste your time or money at this overpriced restaurant. Your seafood experience will be a huge disappointment and you will feel like you have been robbed. No value or quality in this restaurant. They also served gluten based bread to my son who is a celiac and has been all his life. He specifically requested non-gluten.

Yelp
went with my parents for Sunday lunch, they had some 2 for 1 deal and I decided to go along. they had to eat of the special menu and I had the choice of the normal menu as well. fantastic choice on both menus defo want to go back to try some other stuff I didn't try yesterday. I had pate to start so did my dad, he loved it I thought it was pretty good, wasn't mad about the accompaniments but it was fine. my main was lobster in a butter sauce which was beautifully cooked nicest cooked lobster iv had it ages. the only let down of the meal was the coffee at the end, the man who made them shouldn't be aloud within 5 miles of a coffee machine. all in all can't wait to go back!!
Rolling hills with the sun above them
