King Souvlaki Of Astoria Review - Astoria - New York - The Infatuation

"A while ago, a friend started dating a guy who lives in Astoria. More accurately, he lives and breathes Astoria, and once told us that there was no better Greek food truck in all of NYC than King Souvlaki. This truck on 31st Street and 31st Avenue is indeed the best place to eat chicken souvlaki pita sandwiches stuffed with French fries and white sauce, as well as charred, homemade lamb sausages on sticks. Don’t think of this as just another gyro truck, King Souvlaki is a serious institution. They even have their own ATM built into the vehicle." - Hannah Albertine

A family-run Greek truck since 1979, hand-skewering souvlaki and stacking gyros for a mostly local crowd. Celebrated by Give Me Astoria and crowned Best Food Truck in Queens, it’s an Astoria landmark that still grills over charcoal.

Not sure what’s going on with some of these reviews, but any true Astoria native (born and raised, and not a transplant) knows this place is the real deal—great food, incredible flavor, and top-notch service. If your review isn’t about the food, don’t try to damage a business’s reputation and livelihood. Just had the chicken gyro salad—delicious, and I’ve even got leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

Not good. You guys can do better. And it's not by mistake, and not a first time, but in a row, you knowingly start screwing people, I'm not talking about how you jacked the prices, but you start doing BS with meat, no clean eatbl meat anymore, but joints?, fat?, connections?, etc or maybe even skin? tail?, ear? or noses? - I don't know what is that ! I paid $17 and a half of my meat is old, cold, unchewable garbage ! If I payed real money but received not so real food - call it FRAUD ! PS You been so long in the business, because original owner knew how to do business, but you just trying "make" money, without doing business.

Stopped by the King Souvlaki food truck on 31st St & 31st Ave in Astoria for a very late-night bite and grabbed some pork kebabs on a stick. Unfortunately, the meat was barely warm, dry, and lacked the authentic flavor I was hoping for—even after adding lemon juice and salt. It just didn’t hit the spot and left me craving a more satisfying meal. Decent for a quick stop, but definitely not their best showing.

Google
This food truck was probably my favorite that I have ate at in NYC. They’re pork souvlaki with Peet’s and their king sauce is to die for. Very tender, juicy, and flavorful. They put this lemon vinaigrette sauce in them that I thought was going to be overpowering, but it wasn’t. It gave it the perfect balance. Their feta loaded fries with the lemon sauce was the highlight of the night. The staff was friendly and kind, and answered all the questions we had about the menu. Counting the days until I go again. Pork souvlaki: 10/10 Fries: 10/10

Google
King Souvlaki in Astoria is an absolute gem! From the moment I approached their truck, the aroma of perfectly grilled meat filled the air, instantly making my mouth water. I opted for the mixed chicken and beef souvlaki, and it was a fantastic choice. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection – you could taste the quality of the ingredients and the care they put into their grilling. The portion size was generous, especially for the price, making it an excellent value. The pita bread was warm and fluffy, the perfect vessel for the flavorful meat, fresh tomatoes, onions, and their creamy tzatziki sauce. Every bite was a delightful explosion of authentic Greek flavors. What truly elevates the experience is the friendly and efficient service. Despite the steady stream of customers, the staff were quick, courteous, and clearly passionate about their food. You can tell this isn't just a job for them; they take pride in serving delicious, high-quality souvlaki. King Souvlaki is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Greek street food in Astoria. The mixed chicken and beef souvlaki is a standout, offering a wonderful combination of textures and tastes. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Google
Good price, good food!!! You have to read and understand menu before order because for beginners they think you are expert in greek food!!! But its ok!!! Price is good and quality too!!! Try to taste some greek sodas! They have many options of sauces!

Google
I have eaten here for years , the food was disappointing today sadly . The meat was tough , possibly reheated up , has the flavor but was dry , and my salad was soggy frozen iceberg salad mix :-( I have never seen ice berg lettuce in a Greek salad , the Greek fries were good . There was an older lady working alongside some younger ones that wasn’t very nice , when I asked how much a side of tzatziki was she answered over the younger girl rudely, she was also rude to another customer who asked for a fork for his food . The salad was 18 dollars and very low quality , and the pita bread was two pieces that was stale . I was in the area and was so excited for This food . I’d just order the fries and ask for a fresh souvlaki stick to be made with it if I try it again . Also they forgot the bread for my souvlaki sticks , ordered 4 didn’t get any bread like I usually get .

Google
Food has definitely dipped in quality and portion size. Seems like the business owners have only learned how to cut corners over the years. Try any cart on Steinway for a better experience. Much cleaner area too😖

Yelp
After 5 years, this is still my go to place for delicious Souvlaki. My favorites are still the chicken and pork platters as you'll see in my photos. Tender, juicy and fresh meats all the time. Everything is seasoned perfectly and always served quickly and with great service. Their tzatziki sauce is the best I've ever had. And as I write this, I am plotting on my next visit across the bridge. They have a few tables lined against the building but that's about it. For a food truck, I really appreciate the gesture of at least having this.

Yelp
Chicken Gyro..... with the fries .... King Souvlaki Food Truck This popular Greek food truck is known for its flavorful souvlaki, gyros, and fries cooked in Greek olive oil. Reviewers praise the tender meat, generous portions, and friendly service. It's cash-only, but there's an ATM nearby. Located at Northern Blvd & Bell Blvd, it's a go-to for authentic Greek street food.

Yelp
I truly believe ownership of this truck has changed hands!!! I've been coming to the King sporadically over the last 4 years, they used to earn the name King. Now, both food and "service" are "FOOL" level. You gotta be a fool to give these people your $$$, and it's expensive. We ordered two Lamb Gyro and Fries. 4 other people then came up to the window and ordered. All these people received their orders, then the employee slides the window open and asks us _"Do you still want two Lamb Gryos and an order of fries????"_ (You truly can't make this *^#t up!!!!) Of course we said yes, we're hungry standing out in the cold, and we're looking forward to food that we had truly enjoyed in the past. Because of our past experience, we were willing to let this fool order taking experience slides. Finally our food comes out, $40+ with drinks, plus tip, we couldn't wait: Opened it up right in the car: 1) soggy, limp, oily fries!! 2) Lamb gyro, no lettuce or tomato, no dressing, and what happens to the Greek Oregano????--ok flavor, and they did give a generous portion of meat. We had to come home and put the fries in our air fryer. Disappointed that we lost what used to be such a gem in Astoria. Will NEVER go back, we got the message loud and clear buddy!!!!! You don't want us as customers for some reason? Ok!!!!

Yelp
King Souvlaki is a great value food truck. The portion sizes are good for the price, the food is filling, the service is good, and the food is delicious. I was in the area looking for something quick to eat after getting off a long flight. I came upon King Souvlaki's food truck. I was greeted right away and quickly decided on some Greek fries with gyro meat. The guy in the food truck was engaging and helped me understand the different items on the menu by answering my questions. I paid for my meal via Zelle and couldn't wait to try the food. The food was delicious. The fries were well-seasoned and perfectly fried. The gyro meat also has a nice flavor. I didn't care for the tzatziki sauce. I could see myself coming back from seconds the next time I was in the area.

Yelp
very good very popular long time food truck on the corner of Steinway and Ditmars. Fast service and with a smile each time. Super casual of course, grab and go kind of eat although they do have some chairs along the sidewalk.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place due to the hype and videos highlighting this place. So I wanted to love it, but sadly was quite disappointed. Ordered their lamb/beef gyro, but the flavor was lacking and the sauce was limited, so was overall a flavorless sandwich that didn't live up to the hype I was expecting. The sandwich was $16 and their Greek soda $3, so an overall deal if you split between two people. But unfortunately will not come back.

Yelp
Keepin it real out here in Astoria Everything is straightforward, solid. Cool thing is that everyone working there is very themselves, never changed just cause they got bigger.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast and friendly service! It was my first time trying King Souvlaki and I was not disappointed! I ordered their hand cut Greek fries topped with Greek feta cheese crumbles - the cheese was so fresh and it went so well with the fries. They had a pretty extensive menu with lots of yummy options. I will definitely return with a bigger appetite next time so I can try some of their platters and gyros!
google avatar

Alper T.

Yelp
These people really know what they are doing. You can see everything made with love here!!! Souvlaki is the bomb! Delicious! A must have Greek fries!!! French fries fried in olive oil and topped with feta cheese!! A food truck with a regular restaurant treatment here!! They have one in Forest hills as well!

Yelp
Just moved into the area and wanted to check this place out since it's down the block from us. It's a pretty large truck with several windows and cooks. We got the pork souvlaki and chicken gyro platters. The pork was so tender and flavorful! Definitely one of my favs. The platter also comes with pita, tzatziki sauce, a salad, and rice. It's definitely a lot of food and only $15 each! The service was pretty quick yet friendly. Cash only! They have an ATM attached to the truck though.
google avatar

Christine Y.

Yelp
$14 chicken gyro platter with rice (got fries instead) $10 chicken souvalki sandwich ( barely full for that price) $4 beef stick (more meat than the other items received) Not sure what went wrong tonight but it was only about two people in front of me. I asked for a rice platter but got fries. The meat portion was very small. The portions were deeply disappointing for the price. Other food trucks give more meats for less than the $10. Not sure I would frequent this place again. There were 5 people working. Skip for ur own sake. Try the one in bayside on bell Blvd. That is alot better for ur value.
google avatar

Shirley H.

Yelp
Of course King Souvlaki has banging souvlaki. Today, I had a pork souvlaki and it was juicy and savory. Topped it with lemon and oregano. The service is quick and friendly. I enjoyed my souvlaki on the street. They have tables and chairs for you to enjoy your food while it's fresh, juicy and hot. An added bonus is an ATM installed to the truck. Fancy!
google avatar

Jamel O.

Yelp
King Souvlaki is a classic. I remember when you could get a stick for under $3. Now I think the Chicken Souvlaki sticks are $5, which is a magic number for my generation. In my day crack cost $5 and as a little kid, they sold everything for $5, mostly because it was stolen and the sales people had bad habits. Now, You can get a Pork or Souvlaki for $5 and support your habit. If you want a Greek Pork Sausage, it is $6. They have all soys for add ons and combos, and for the most part, for about $20 You can get a platter or greek salad with meat. You get all of this from some men off the street, for $5. Just like the old days.

Yelp
I love this place. I've been a fan for a long time for their generous portions and delicious food. So when I had the chance to actually visit their food truck for the first time (I've always ever doordashed), I was delighted! Unfortunately, they messed up both of me and my friend's orders: I asked for chicken souvlaki and was given chicken gyro on my platter...this was a bummer esp bc the chicken gyro was extremely dried out, not to mention that just wasn't what I was craving. My pita lamb gyro was lackluster, lacked onions and the lamb was more on the fatty side. I feel like I got a lot of...griddle? Never happened before from this spot. Last - my girlfriend got a hero and they gave her a pita instead. Heroes cost more money than pitas. And my platter is the most expensive thing on the menu...so for those things to be overlooked, when we ordered IN person...is disappointing. Big time. BUT - the customer service is the BEST ever!!!! They truly care about feedback and offered to make this order right. That is a rarity these days, I'm so incredibly happy I cared enough to reach out, and that they did the same. Updating my review as stellar customer service is hard to come by!
google avatar

Linda T.

Yelp
Cash only! I was reminiscing on a previous lamb and gyro pita that I've had from King Souvlaki before so I had to get that today ($10 or 11) and my bf ordered one of the platters ($14) We also had the $5 fries - which is such a large portion! Surprisingly, this is my first time ordering from this truck because I've encountered so many freebies from this truck in so many different events (Yelp, work). Those freebies have only led me to come back here today. Will come back if I'm ever craving Greek fast food! Thanks for the wonderful service!
google avatar

Zack W.

Yelp
Big fan of this place! Tasty Greek food, doesn't take long, overall a decent time. As other people have mentioned there's plenty of other Greek food trucks in the area, so it has stiff competition. I've gotten food from here a couple of times, and the thing I've noticed is that meat/general portions can wildly vary between dishes. The $10 pita feels puny, but the sticks and Hero rolls are massive/great value. Slightly annoying to learn that the hard way, but overall it's a fresh-tasting and affordable option
google avatar

Amelia B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and the food here definitely has that Greek flavor and this food truck stays consistent with the food. The Greek orange juice drink is definitely a must try if you haven't had it before.
google avatar

Yelp
King souvlaki - the place to go / or pass by and pick up lol/ it's a food truck- one of the best - might I add!! Consistent- clean - and complete!! Salad, lamb, chicken , rice and their special white sauce!! Yymmmmn yummmm yummmm!!! Once you bite into your plate / you're goin got close your eyes and just savor every ingredient, spice and herb that went into it!! So tasty!! So when we you're in the area- this is one to add to the list!! Buen provecho!! Lamb Souvlaki Sandwich
google avatar

Tenny D.

Yelp
Cash only!!! This is one of Astoria staples and has been in the community for a really long time. Can't go wrong with chicken souvlaki platter. It always hits the spot
google avatar

Chrissy F.

Yelp
I normally don't eat lamb or gyros but this is different. I traveled for this. And what I heard about this place was amazing. When I saw there insta page my mouth was watering. I went super late on a Friday and there was a line. It went pretty fast . I got the gyro with lamb it comes with fries rolled inside ughhh heaven. This tasted so good like everything was so fresh. I loved my gyro I ate it in the car they do have seats out front but not to many. And the prices are great. I give them a 10/10 I will definitely be back
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
I Haven't Been Here In Like Years; Since The Night Club Right In Front Has Been Open. I Was In The Area. So I Stopped Buy. It Wasn't A Busy Day. They Only Accept Cash Money. Use Their ATM If You Like. Extra Fees Banking Fees. There's A Chase Bank Two Minutes Away. The Food Wasn't Freshly Made. It Wasnt; Not Seasoned And Nor Did It Was Tasteful. Bland And Tasted If It Was Day Old. The French Fries Were Terrible. Rubber Consistency & Very Tasteless. I Rather Not Eat Fries If They Are Going To Taste This Bad. Seriously. I Was Highly Disappointed With My Experience. Hence Why I Created This Review. I Could Care Less About This Establishment. I Am A Regular Patron That Works Hard For Thier Money. I Am Pretty Fair With My Reviews But I Was Highly Disappointed With This Location. The Food Came Out To $33.00. I Spent $50.00. I Gave A Tip Consistency Is Key And This Wasn't It.
google avatar

Saadia N.

Yelp
I trued their chicken souvlaki but it was undercooked. I couldn't eat it after that. Not a good experience for me.
google avatar

Edwin D.

Yelp
Great place. The best gyro Ive had in all of New York. Also best of all, the best prices too. Great authentic greek environment. The service is also great as well. A must try if you're in Brooklyn.
google avatar

Pennie B.

Yelp
Delicious most of the time. One star less because order ahead pickup orders are not the same quality as made on the spot orders.
google avatar

Kenneth E.

Yelp
Came here and got the chicken. Overall the place is well run, the people are friendly and the line is organized. They are cash only but they have an ATM built into their truck. Not sure if I trust that but there if you need it. The chicken was not super moist nor super flavorful, but not dry and not tasteless. Overall it was a pretty average sandwich. I would say in such a Greek neighborhood this place is pretty good. The price point is right but would not recommend to other people to go to.
google avatar

Rose K.

Yelp
This is one of the best souvlaki carts in Astoria. It's absolutely my go to. The food is always consistent and delicious. I highly recommend the pork souvlaki
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
Good flavor and price. Very well seasoned and cooked nicely. I've eaten a lot of souvalaki and many places it is hard and dry. This place is moist and soft.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Awesome local food truck. I walk here often on my lunch break. They also make superior French fries
google avatar

Peter K.

Yelp
Very good food truck experience. Open later. Got gyro and souvlaki platters. Both fries and rice base are good. Can't go wrong, it's always consistently good. Two locations, in Astoria and Bell Blvd Bayside. Had both, they're same consistency. Like most foods, best when eaten hot. Prices are fair.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Classic cash-only Greek food truck in Astoria. I was introduced to this place by my Greek friend. I think it's the best place to satisfy your cravings for souvlaki and gyros when you want something quick. King Souvlaki serves some nice and juicy meat. The portions are also pretty decent. Why not?
google avatar

Misha J.

Yelp
Late night eats . I was coming home from a party and we saw it driving in the direction to get to the highway and we stopped. Me sister and I ordered a bunch of stuff to try . And EVERYTHING was good . The kabobs and gyros we to die for . Literally ate everything up in less than 10 mins. The work were so polite . And helpful . On site ATM was super convenient and made ordering more things possible. Definitely one of my favorite food truck experiences. Would I go back ? Can't wait Should you ? Definitely. Get the kabobs

B T.

Yelp
Vegetarian veggie option with or without feta. Not listed on the menu but always available.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
I really like this food truck showcasing a great example of some of the fast, inexpensive, and flavorful Greek food available in the traditionally Greek neighborhood of Astoria, Queens. Their chicken souvlaki platter is phenomenal with great flavor and it's a lot of food to leave you feeling full and satisfied. The guys working the truck are friendly (in a NY kinda way) and efficient at getting your food out. A filling chicken souvlaki platter will run around $14 or a pita $10. They have great late hours being open until 5 AM and the weekends and 11 PM or midnight on weekdays.
google avatar

DK S.

Yelp
Brought my friends here and we ate it at Astoria Park. Service was great and the food was so damn good!!!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
not the best not the worth .... i wouldn't wait for the line i don't think it's worth it .... also the amount of food vs price u get isnt the best ....
google avatar

Angelo G.

Yelp
I've been eating king souvlaki since it was a small little cart. I'm so glad that it's taken off the way it has. My go to is the chicken souvlaki platter. The tzatziki sauce is real good
google avatar

Kim P.

Yelp
I was super excited to eat here as I pass by often and it is frequently filled. I decided to get chicken souvlaki pitas and a pork souvlaki plate. To my surprise, the meat on all 3 dishes was not cooked well at all. All 3 souvlakis were borderline raw and we were not able to eat them. To make matters worse there was a produce sticker from the tomato in my pita. This is absolutely unacceptable and I will not be coming here ever again.
google avatar

Yahaira M.

Yelp
I was so hungry and excited to eat! My gyro had raw chicken in it! My husband kept finding cartladge pieces in his chicken. I can gag again! The beef gyro meat was so dry and did not taste fresh. The greek french fries were full of feta cheese but so full of greece! What a turn off. Never ordering here again. We couldnt even finish the food.
google avatar

M J.

Yelp
Really good! Got a gyro, platter and salad all were really good. Wouldn't have guessed that they were from a truck.

Ethan B.

Yelp
Love this truck and come all the time. Bring cash and get the chicken souvlaki . I've had their gyro meat, it's good, but the souvlaki keeps me coming back. Staff/service is great as well. Neighborhood staple
google avatar

Valerie B.

Yelp
LOVE THIS TRUCK! Everyone that works here is the best. Always so kind! Every-time I've stopped here I always have a great interaction. I ordered the chicken pita. So goood! Just a heads up they are cash only! Everything I've had from here has been so good.

Steve H.

Yelp
I lived in Astoria in the 90s and 2000s and was in the neighborhood so I gave this truck a try because of all the good reviews (and because Opa! sadly is closed). I ordered the lamb and beef gyro pita and the meat was gristly and tough (how that can happen with a gyro I have no idea) had almost no vegetables or tzatziki either. It weirdly had that white sauce that Halal carts. Considering that the gyro meat was more like a doner kebab you get in Montreal or Europe, I wonder if this food truck is Turkish, not Greek. Either way, it wasn't good and I have no idea why the reviews are so high.

Jessica H.

Yelp
Ordered from here on seamless and it wasn't good. They did not include the dressing or pita for the Greek salad and the lamb gyro meat was hard and stringy. So many better spots to choose from in this area. This just isn't worth it at all.
google avatar

Eddie Q.

Yelp
These guys are great! Quick, fresh, and at a great price! They don't try to make it up on by gouging beverage prices.
google avatar

Chabely I.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best food trucks I've ever from. I buy their food often and their ingredients are very fresh. My personal fave is the lamb and beef platter with fries. The customer service is great and quick. I leave satisfied every time and feel satisfied after I eat their food. They're usually pretty busy, which is how you know their food is great.
google avatar

Sterling C.

Yelp
This place is really ripp off. I don't understand how people has rated 5 star. It's not real. I went on this place to take out food for my family I did three order of chicken gyro platter each plater was $15 n what the cheap very cheap quantity they gave me. They charged me $15 n see the photo how much less rice n less chicken quantity they gave me. Very very very very disappointing n ripp off. Not at a fair. They have raise the price it's ok but atleast they should be fair in giving quantity. My wife n family was very very disappointing, not at all happy.
google avatar

Mardory V.

Yelp
The reviews are not lying. This place is spot on and perfect for a delicious meal as typical street meat should be. No complaints here as the meat was juicy, and well seasoned, the feta was tangy and smooth, the veggies fresh and crispy. The sauce was not really needed but if you like saucy foods, you will be happy nonetheless. I opt for the lamb/beef mostly and the chicken and pork are tasty as well. But let's be real, why would you go for pork when there is succulent lamb?! The service is quick and efficient in person and via delivery as well. Fair warning, if you like your fries crispy be sure to make that request for a crunchy experience. I'm a huge fan of gyros so that's usually what I aim to order but if you want a more filling meal or are in a sharing mood the platters pack quite the bang for your buck. The last time I had a meal from here, my vegetarian company craved meat for weeks thereafter!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
This is a solid food truck for Greek food! Ordered the pork souvlaki platter and the beef and lamb pita. The beef and lamb meat was quite chewy. I think the pork souvlaki was very tasty and the platter is the way to go! There's so much variety and the portion is large. They are CASH ONLY!

Ken W.

Yelp
Food is consistent and they are open late Staff is friendly and very polite This truck is highly recommended and similarto their Bayside truck
