Houston’s Newest Seed Oil-Free Steakhouse Sells a ‘Texas Strip’ | Eater Houston

"A newly opened steakhouse in Houston's Galleria area (opened at the end of May) that positions itself as a “healthier” modern take on the classic steakhouse by avoiding seed oils and cooking with beef tallow, olive oil, or butter instead. Led by chef Eric Aldis, a seventh-generation Texan and former culinary director of another regional grill, the menu emphasizes steaks (the New York strip is deliberately labeled the “Texas strip” and steaks are the top seller) while remaining largely gluten-free and offering a vegan bolognese to accommodate varied diets. The kitchen also leans into inventive, shareable plates and unexpected sides—examples include a vegetable charcuterie, guacamole served with bacon chips or gluten-free bread, a beef-and-pork meatball baked in “nonna’s pomodoro,” mushrooms cooked to order, pesto cauliflower rice, jalapeño hash browns, creamed spinach artichoke, foie gras, and beef tallow fries. The glassed-in dining room is designed to be convertible (30 tons of compressed air-conditioning but with windows that open when it’s 85°F or cooler to create indoor/outdoor seating), and the space offers flexible private dining with three rooms that can be reconfigured into up to five, including two smaller rooms seating up to 12. The concept was launched in partnership with a restaurateur who co-owns a local pub group, and the team emphasizes guest satisfaction over awards." - Brittany Britto Garley

The Hottest Restaurant Openings to Know Right Now, June 2025 | Eater Houston

"A meat-forward, Texas-themed steakhouse opened by a local operator of three Mo’s Irish Pub locations, emphasizing beef-centric dishes and frying in beef tallow rather than seed oils. The compact menu curated by Chef Eric Aldis starts with salads and shareable appetizers like shrimp cocktail, bacon-wrapped scallops, cheesy flatbread, and caviar service, and focuses on a few steak options — notably a 14-ounce Texas strip, a 20-ounce rib-eye, and a multi-size filet available with sauces and toppings such as a blue cheese fondue — alongside beefy mains like red-wine short rib, a 10-ounce wagyu burger, and a French dip; sides are extensive and indulgent, from foie gras and creamed spinach artichoke to jalapeño hashbrowns and fries cooked in beef tallow." - Brittany Britto Garley

My experience at King Steak, Where Winners Meat, was nothing short of exceptional, earning every bit of a 5-star review! From the moment we arrived, the valet was warm and friendly, setting a welcoming tone. The owner personally greeted us, which added a special touch of hospitality that made us feel truly valued. The service throughout the evening was impeccable—attentive, professional, and perfectly paced. Now, the star of the show: the steak. It was cooked to absolute perfection, juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor, easily among the best I’ve ever had. Every bite was a testament to their commitment to quality. The sides and wine selection complemented the meal beautifully, rounding out an unforgettable dining experience. King Steak is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates top-tier steak and outstanding service. I can’t wait to return!

4.5-4.7/5 Very good spot with a neighborhood feel. Funny to call it steakhouse with only 3 cuts of steak but lots of variety which can be nice. Decently priced. Very attentive servers. They have a big separate private dining space in the building with regular dining room on the “patio.” Crowd felt a little mature but might have been that we had a 6:30 reservation. I am writing this on day 3 of their official opening and am certain they can work out the very small kinks. Would absolutely go back.

I’ve been fan of Chef Eric Adlis’ work for years. When King Steak opened, I took my wife there for her birthday. What an absolute amazing contemporary fine dining experience it was! The level of service & attention to detail is equal to that of the Ritz Carlton. The food was phenomenal, super fresh, and cooked to order. We had such a great time! 5⭐️/ 5💎‼️

Google
Great atmosphere for date night or a nice dinner out with friends. The service and food are both 10/10. Highly recommend the meatball appetizer, chicken Parmesan, and chocolate chip cookie dessert. The steaks also look amazing. Definitely my favorite new restaurant on the Houston restaurant scene in 2025.

We had a good dining experience at King Steak. You might be surprised that it’s not really a steakhouse as there only three options to choose from. It’s more of an elevated American-fare menu. We had the meatballs and classic shrimp cocktail, they were strong starters. Our party also ordered the Ora King Salmon, Burger, Filet and Cowboy Ribeye. From the feedback on their dish they seemed to enjoy it. I had the ribeye and it was properly cooked to my temp request. Kept seasoning simple and let the beef shined which I like. Good sear, although I personally like more charring to my steak. Again, that’s just a personal preference. Our server Jim had good energy with our party, enthusiastic and made solid recommendations. Dessert is only one item, a warm large choc chip cookie with a scoop of ice cream. Maybe not the most creative of desserts, but it was tasty. One issue with it being so wide is that the edges were crisp (which is a good thing), but the center was a bit under baked (not so good). I would prefer it to be smaller but thicker, so you can achieve that gooey center while still getting those crisp edges. Hopefully it gets tweaked. They told me that in the coming weeks they’ll roll out more items to the dessert menu. Looking forward to that.

The Hubby and I tried King Steak for the first time. First off, I really loved the aesthetics—it feels like dining in a fancy treehouse with lots of natural light. It’s small and cozy, but in the best way. We started with the meatballs, which were delicious, though the sauce had a bit of an odd aftertaste for me. The Hubby loved them. The steak was good, but with only two options on the menu—which is surprising given the name—you expect them to get it just right. Mine was slightly overcooked. I always gauge a steakhouse by whether they can truly deliver a perfect medium rare. So far, only Credence and Steak 48 nail it every single time. That said, the steak was still flavorful. When it came to dessert, they only have one option. The waitress was a bit dismissive and said something like, 'We only have one dessert—I’m sure you’re not interested.' For the record, the dessert is basically a bazooki like the ones from BJ’s, which my eldest used to absolutely love when he was a kid. Service is a big deal for me. While the waitress was a little off-putting, the floor manager was excellent and very attentive, which helped balance things out. The hostess was very nice also. Overall, it was a good experience, and we’ll definitely return.

Our recent visit to King Steak in Houston was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the warm, sophisticated ambiance that set the perfect mood for a special evening. What made the night even more memorable was being personally greeted by the gracious owners, Chef Eric Aldis and Johnny V, whose passion for hospitality truly shines through. We indulged in a variety of appetizers, each one more impressive than the last — the Bacon-wrapped Scallops were perfectly seared with just the right balance of smokiness and sweetness, while the homemade Meatballs delivered rich, comforting flavors that showcased the kitchen’s attention to detail. For our entrées, we savored the Oro King Salmon, accompanied by its uniquely delicious Pesto Cauliflower Rice — a creative and satisfying pairing. The Filet was cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavor, and the Chicken Parmesan was elevated by a mouthwatering Spaghetti with Pomodoro sauce that tasted as if it came straight from a rustic Italian kitchen. To top off this remarkable culinary journey, we enjoyed a Caviar bump paired with a Beluga Vodka shot — the ideal way to celebrate an unforgettable evening. Without a doubt, King Steak offers an unparalleled dining experience, perfect for sharing with cherished friends and loved ones. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Google
Excellent experience. I went over the weekend, and my favorite was the bacon wrapped scallops. I was so amazed of how good it tasted and the prices here are incredible compared to other steakhouses. I liked that the server took the time to explain the dishes. She was very attentive. It matters when the staff shows that they really care to provide a great experience.

Yelp
Can you say perfection?! This meal was an unforgettable combination of delicious flavors paired with beautifully presented dishes that awakened all my senses. From the first bite to the last sip, everything was absolutely on point. If you're coming to Houston, this fabulous restaurant is a must. The customer service is top-tier--warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. And the drinks? If you can think of it, they can make it--crafted to perfection every time. Abigail was a very attentive server and the manager Eric's attention to detail was close to perfection. The ambiance was equally impressive--thoughtfully designed and able to complement any occasion, whether it's a romantic night out, a celebratory dinner, or just a relaxing evening with friends. This spot has officially earned a place on my favorites list. Don't miss it!

Yelp
We had such a great dinner at this steakhouse. One of the things we really appreciate is that they don't use seed oils. It's clear they care about quality ingredients. The food was excellent and the service matched it perfectly. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, scallops, filet mignon, bone-in cowboy ribeye, and Ora King salmon. For sides, we had the jalapeno hash browns, mushrooms, and french fries. Everything was delicious and cooked just right. The wine selection was also fantastic, and paired beautifully with our meal. Although we had 2 small children with us, the staff and manager were so kind and accommodating. Even the owner was there and took time to be so kind to our children, which truly made us feel welcome. Definitely save room for dessert! We ordered the large cookie topped with a scoop of ice cream, it was the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, thoughtful service, and a warm atmosphere.

Yelp
Beautiful steakhouse in front of the BBVA Compass Plaza building. Firstly, the service and staff were so extremely accommodating. We requested a larger table for a table of 6 and they immediately moved us to a larger, private area. Customer service is so important to make a place memorable- so thank you King Steak staff (Eric and Justin). The food was fantastic. I'm a huge fan of spinach artichoke dip and I would say their spinach artichoke dip is now my favorite in Houston. Meatball appetizer were huge- very shareable. I got the short rib- it was tender, flavorful. They also cooked the filet to perfection- perfect medium rare and seasoned just right. Do not skip their dessert! I would definitely add this place to my regular rotation.

Yelp
I was invited to the soft opening by a friend. The name seemed a little ridiculous, but who doesn't want to give a new potential hot spot a try. It was a mom & dad's night out, so we were excited to have some great food and beverages. Upon entering the decor was excellent. Definitely seemed well thought out, even the plates were bespoke (see my photos from the night). The menu was unique for a Houston steakhouse. They had chicken parm! I've seen this in other Mid-West Steakhouses, but not in Texas. We ended up giving that a try. If you are putting it on your steakhouse menu, you must be confident at how delicious it is. Wow, so delicious. We also split the Caesar, another WOW. There was some passed apps that came because of the soft opening. Everyone of them were so delicious. The service was great. They did not seem to have the first week jitters that I have experienced at so many restaurants and bar. The wine was delicious and not too badly marked up. King Steak definitely stands out versus the other Houston steakhouses. Will I be back? Definitely.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. Everything was amazing. From the valet guys to the hostess to the food runners to the servers! Everything was great. The owner/manager assisted the host stand as we came in and he checked on us a couple of times. My friend and I ordered from HRW menu and we were not disappointed. The service and food exceeded our expectations! Iris was our server. We will be back.

Yelp
King Steak is a great addition to Houston and the Galleria area. Delicious food. Professional & attentive service. Well-mixed cocktails. We will be back! Food - we were very impressed with the Chicken Parmesan, Brussel Sprouts, Guacamole, Beef Tallow Fries, and the Salmon. Portions are hardy, you will not go away hungry. Cocktails - Extra Dry Martini with 3 olives (delicious!) Justin (our waiter) was a delight - attentive, professional, and had great recommendations. Ambiance - great for a business lunch, birthday dinner, or group happy hour hang out. Music was a little loud but that's a personal preference. Attire - Smart Casual to Dressy. Manager wearing ties and jackets.

Yelp
This restaurant boasts they are seed oil free, right on the menu!! I am extremely sensitive to seed oils, so dining out is very challenging for me. I had 0 inflammation after eating here, they are the real deal. The owner was present and chatted with us about ridding the kitchen of plastics and other harmful things as well. 100% onboard with what this establishment stands for! Overall great dining experience too. Service was top notch, and I felt the prices were reasonable for the quality of food and experience. I will be returning soon. We sat near the bar area and the aesthetic is beautiful with lots of large windows.

Yelp
I have to say the food was mediocre the bar/front of the restaurant is beautiful. The back is like meeting rooms. The bartender needed to pick up the pace . We had the chop salad. It was very mediocre, bacon wrapped scallops totally ruined the scallops by wrapping the bacon around it, but they were cooked perfect and we had the artichoke dip. It was OK at the most.. was hoping that Johnny would bring something fabulous like you did back in the day. I don't see this place happening so sorry.

Yelp
The filet and spinach artichoke dip were great. Do not miss the jumbo chocolate chip cookie dessert.

Yelp
The steak and cookie dessert were amazing! The service was incredible. Our drinks were always filled and they checked on us multiple times. The place itself was nice and we had a nice dinner here.

Yelp
14 oz. Sirloin was as good as I have tasted. The seared Tuna was also excellent as was the beet salad. I was surprised the crowd on a Saturday night was a bit thin; this restaurant deserves better, but maybe the word is not yet out. There is a separate building that houses the bar and some restaurant seating in front of the main building that houses the kitchen and additional seating. Ask to be seated in the front building; it is very inviting.

Yelp
I took a very special guest to dine at Kings Steakhouse and when I arrived I was met by Eric who warmly greeted us. We ate several appetizers of which the presentation and flavor were superb. The wine choice was also the right choice to compliment the steak choice. I ordered the Texas Strip and my guest ordered Ora King Salmon. we then ordered the jalapena hashbrowns that we ate and wanted to take it home for the next morning for breakfast. Johnny V came to our table to greet us which was a treat as he is really a legend in the business. My experience during our visit to Kings Steakhouse will not be the last as I am planning on entertaining all my special guests that arrive in Houston and this is the place I will be delivering my guests to so that they can ENJOY a great dinner and experience professionalism when it comes to fine dining. I salute our waiter also. Thanks Bruce

Yelp
Food was terrific and great vibe. Had 12 ounce filet cooked perfectly. Others in party had the Tuna, Short rib and ribeye. Everyone loved their meal and sides. Highlight was the caviar bump. Congrats to Bobby and Johnny V.
