Where to Find the Best Dumplings in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Don’t confuse this Noriega dumpling shop with its regally named rival, Shanghai Dumpling King, famous for its xiao long bao. Kingdom of Dumpling serves fine XLB, but it’s really known for its wide array of Northern-style shui jiao dumplings, or boiled dumplings, with their thick hand-made wrappers, and fillings like pork and napa cabbage or shrimp with chives. Pro tip: Score bags of frozen dumplings to take home and steam up at your leisure." - Lauren Saria

The Best Restaurants In The Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"There is a waitlist at Kingdom of Dumpling, but it gets completely ignored, so when you show up here, don’t walk off or you’ll get skipped over. This place in the Outer Sunset is tiny to the point that whenever someone squeezes in behind you, they really are squeezing behind you, but it’s worth getting nudged a few times throughout the meal because the dumplings here are both cheap and great. We like the standard pork with cabbage, but the spicy dumplings with pork and chili oil and the pan-fried soup dumplings with a thick, chewy, cakey wrapper are the real stars." - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway, Will Kamensky, Tamara Palmer, Ricky Rodriguez

Google
Kingdom of Dumpling surprised me in the best way. We tried delivery on a whim and it turned out to be so good. The pork and Napa cabbage dumplings were juicy with tender skins, and the Shanghai pan fried soup dumplings had that crispy bottom with rich flavor. The eggplant tofu with rice was another standout. The sauce was flavorful without being too heavy or sweet, unlike a lot of versions you get elsewhere. Garlic pea shoots were fresh and simple, and the farmer’s cucumber was cold and refreshing, though it could have been marinated longer. Together, everything made for such a satisfying meal. I have pretty high standards for Chinese delivery and am rarely impressed, but this hit. They even sell their dumplings frozen if you want to stock up at home. A random delivery experiment turned into a new go-to spot for us. Very impressed.

Google
The eggplant dish and fried tofu are my absolute favorites: always fresh, perfectly seasoned, and super satisfying. I’ve tried the chive dumplings and string beans too, but eggplant is the star — highly recommend. The place is small and a bit cramped, with about 5–6 tables squeezed in, so it’s best for 2–4 people, not large groups. Tables can be a bit sticky, but it’s what you’d expect from a casual, affordable Chinese spot. Still one of the best for the price.

Google
The food is very good and the prices are also good, but be careful about the final bill. Our server did not give us an itemized bill and the total amount seemed too much for what we got. I don't know for sure if there was a mistake, but the fact is that I didn't feel ok asking for an itemized bill. The food is worth the visit... Just keep good tabs on what you ordered.

Google
I've been coming here for years and honestly I think it just gets better with time. Services really speedy and it's actually full service which is nice. They will make you pretty much anything vegetarian if you ask.. highly recommend them making you some tofu chow mein. It was incredible. So are the garlic green beans

Google
Came the other night with a few friends! It’s a tiny restaurant with 5-6 tables. Can get stuffy when packed especially with the kitchen just a couple feet away and one window for ventilation. Food was decent, we ordered Shanghai soup dumplings, pan fried Shanghai dumplings, napa cabbage boiled dumplings, salt&pepper chicken wings, fried chive dumplings, spicy wontons and noodles. The dough was slightly too thick for all dumplings but you can tell it’s handmade! Chicken wings were crispy but lack flavor depth. Noodles had good chewiness, sauce was a tad oily. Chilli wantons were good! I wanted so badly for it to be good because of the positive reviews. Maybe we went on an off-night but we weren’t impressed by the food? But we’re still willing to go back again if we’re in the area. Give it a try!! Was about $27-30 per pax from the food+tip.

Google
Ordered delivery. To my unpleasant surprise, the "crispy chicken wings" were swimming in a sea of extremely sugary liquid. The xo beef chow fun had good flavor and mix of veggies but verrrrrrry little beef. I thought they forgot it at first. No excuse for such an incredibly stingy portion of beef.

Google
This is one of San Francisco best underrated places. The prices are amazingly pocket friendly, and the food was insanely Delicious. We had ordered dumplings, chicken, fried rice soup, dumplings, and pancakes. I love the fried rice. It was so flavourful and very comforting. The dumplings were great to, and the pancakes were loaded with meat. Definitely, this is a place which I will visit many more times in the future.

Google
Yummy dumplings! I don't believe it's true shanghai style dumplings. There are some aromatic vegetables in there that are more northern style. Everything tasted handmade and fresh. It's kind of a hole in the wall place but the wait can be long since the restaurant is small. It was pretty crowded for lunch on a weekday. You know the restaurant is clean when most of the customers there are English speaking.

Yelp
After a cold visit to Ocean Beach, we came here for late dinner. Restaurant is small with few tables. Food was decent. Service was quick. I don't think they have restroom but I might be wrong.

Yelp
I absolutely love this spot. Dumplings galore. I love bringing friends here and ordering so many different types of dumplings. It's a small restaurant but the food is smackin

Yelp
My goto place when visit Sunset. However the dumplings are not what it's used to. Pro: waitress was sweet Con: Chive and shrimp dumpling's filling were small compare to previous years. One bite and the dumpling deflated. I'm guessing one reason was the filling was not mixed with pork like in other restaurants. Oh yes, the string beans' ends weren't even trimmed. I had to bit off the tough ends. Soooo annoying. Makes me wonder do they even wash them.

Alejandro C.

Yelp
The food is authentic for dumplings and onion pancake. The noodles are decent as well, but not my thing because it's pretty oily. When I did an uber eats pick up, the owner pointing me to one bag and didn't clarify there were two for me. I should have realized since I got 6 items, but they have a habit of putting similar foods into one box, and my bag had three boxes. When I got home I realized it wasn't all there, I called and the manager sort of shrugged at me. He called me back after and offered to drop it off at my place. I appreciate the gesture to help fix the order. The food was decent after all.

Yelp
Last night, my to-go order at Kingdom of Dumpling hit the spot for my Chinese food craving. I ordered the Shanghai soup dumplings, garlic string beans, and XO chicken chow mein, and let me tell you, each dish was a delight. The soup dumplings were perfectly steamed with a flavorful broth inside, the garlic string beans were seasoned just right and crispy on the outside, and the chow mein was filled with tender chicken and fresh veggies. Trust me, this place is a must for your Chinese food and dumpling cravings in the Sunset. Very tasty and satisfying meal all around.

Yelp
We've loved kingdom of dumpling for the past 10 years. Many things have changed throughout the years from the people working to the look of the restaurant but the taste and quality of the food has been constant . Usually we get their Shanghai soup dumplings but we skipped on it knowing we had too much food. But their chowfun, onion pancake, steamed dumplings and especially their fried crispy tofu is to die for. We will continue coming here as long as we can

Yelp
Solid neighborhood Chinese food! Really easy to order for pick up and speedy, fresh prep. XO Beef Chow Fun is flavorful with wok fired noodles, bean sprouts, chives, fair amount of beef. Solid wok hei Pork and cabbage dumplings also very filling and go well with soy sauce and the orange chili sauce

Yelp
This beautiful little hole in the wall, serves some of the best Shanghai (soup) dumplings I've ever had. Their soup dumpling have a thick dough wrapper that when pierced, have the most exquisite pork broth come out them. They're juicy and a good size. Their pork and chive boiled dumplings are also spectacular and are filled with oniony goodness. The beef stew noodles remind me of the noodles are thick and the beef stew and tendon is soft and tender. The Dandan noodles are a stand out. The ground pork sauce was extremely tasty and contrasted well with the thick noodles and crunchy fresh cucumber. While they accidentally gave us veggie pot stickers, without asking they realized their mistake and gave us pork pot stickers. My wife thought the veggie pot stickers were excellent. But I loved their pork pot stickers. Would definitely come here again. The owner and staff of this small restaurant really knock it out of the park. They know how to make dumplings and noodles. Will definitely come here again when I'm in the area! The owner is a very nice old man who was very welcoming. He would check in on us frequently. He would also give updates to his regulars about his family and his two daughters who he seemed so proud of and was putting through school and the start of their careers. It gave this restaurant such a nice and warm feel, something I don't see in a lot of Asian restaurants. There's a lot of heart in the food here and in the experience. It's rare to see, but it's something that we should cherish in our local restaurants.

Yelp
The food is good, the green beans are ah-maaaazing, they were literally on fire (wok hei ). Tiny restaurant, lots of people coming in for takeout or delivery pickup. The waitress is sweet, speaks English and Mandarin only. Minus one star for some cleanliness issues (stained paper menus, sticky surfaces, etc.). Potential cross-contact with allergens, especially for those with a peanut allergy.

Yelp
Food is absolutely delicious. I've tried dumpling home and dumpling kitchen down the street but this place really has my heart. It's a small restaurant with only about 20 ish seats but it's so good. I always get the green onion pancake and the pork dumpling with cabbage! The garlic green beans are perfectly seasoned in my opinion, with a complimentary garlic taste instead of an overpowering one. The service is always quick and friendly! Food comes out at different times, but that is expected of a good neighborhood dumpling spot! The pictures are half (if not more) eaten but the quantity of food is amazing for the price!

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to eat here, and what a great decision! All the food we ordered was delicious and the staff were friendly. Between 2 people, we ordered the Garlic String Beans, Beef Roll Pancake, Spicy Dumplings, and Pork Dumplings with Chives. The Beef Roll Pancake was our favorite dish we ordered, I loved how it had thin slices cucumbers in it to add some freshness. The orange hot sauce they had on the table was so good! It paired well with the beef roll pancake and the pork dumplings. This is a small restaurant with limited seating. We went on a Saturday afternoon and got seated right away. Service was fast too, since we got our food fairly quick after ordering. I definitely recommend trying this place out!

Yelp
Was in the area with the kids and D1 said she had a craving for dumplings. Wanted to take her to the place we had gone a couple months ago but turns out they're closed on Tuesdays. Why are so many Chinese restaurants closed on Tuesdays?! Anyhow we ended up at Kingdom of Dumpling. The menu is pretty extensive with lots of options. Love that the menu had a few pictures too. We opted for the Shanghai soup dumplings, the garlic green beans, and the pork shrimp and chive dumplings. Everything was so tasty. I liked to add the vinegar to my soup dumplings. Whatever the sauce was on the green beans was absolutely delicious. I would have liked more meat in the shrimp pork and chive dumplings. Very heavy on the chive but it was good nonetheless. What I believe was the owner, came in and immediately greeted every table in the room and asked if everyone was okay. Very personable and friendly man. He brought us our food as well and encouraged us to order noodles, but we already had enough on the table. At the end of our meal he asked if we needed something sweet as well. He's quite the salesman but not in a pushy way. Highly recommend Kingdom of Dumpling. Even my son, who didn't want to go in the first place was very happy and satisfied. They also have another location down the street that is just a store front that sells their dumplings frozen so that you can cook them at home.

Yelp
We love this place! We come here every time we come back to visit. We normally order the pork and Napa cabbage dumplings - which they make by hand and you can see them rolling the dough in the back -- and this time we also ordered the tofu bok choy noodle soup (the noodles are nice and chewy), the pea shoot leaves, and the egg plant shrimp which also comes with rice. All good and service is fast. One of our neighborhood favorites.

Yelp
Great spicy aroma when I walked in the door. Despite being a bit earlier than my usual dinner time, my mouth started watering and I was hungry immediately. The location is small so there aren't many tables, but the mirrors and big window add a nice touch in making the space seem more open. The soup dumplings came out piping hot and fresh. They had a delicious porky flavor with a hint of ginger and scallion, plenty of broth, and a good thickness so it didn't easily break. Salt and pepper tofu was hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Plate was full of onions and jalapeño and chilis, so it added an additional kick on top of the pepper. Service was quick and friendly.

Yelp
This place is a small and busy dumpling restaurant with amazing dishes! Everything is steamy and savory at a very decent price. Not much seating but well worth it, I noticed that this place is extremely busy with takeout orders, so they do get occupied while you're trying to order. Nonetheless, the food was great and cheap!

Yelp
Lunch and Chitchat with friend In kingdom of dumpling. We both Enjoy the food and service :)

Yelp
Decent food options, good dumplings, the noodles can be a bit oily, wish there's more spicy options!

Yelp
3.5 from me. It's good classic chinese food, solid dishes. Nothing crazy special but a great mom/pop style shop with lots of ppl getting takeout! My favorite was the salt and pepper tofu & steamed dumplings. It was a short 5min wait on a tuesday at 7pm
google avatar

Michael E.

Yelp
$102 for 2? Food was ok, but no prices on the menu... this felt like we were being scammed... Friendly staff but dirty windows and tight tables ... there are plenty of better options in SF
google avatar

Yelp
The Kingdom of Dumplings should be recognized as a historical landmark on Taraval! It's been around for so many years and I've been a frequent guest that it's about time that I reviewed it! There's nothing fancy about this place - it's small & simple on the inside with very limited seating, humble on the outside, but often times, there are lines of people outside waiting to come it to dine-in or pick-up to-go orders. The dumplings are fresh, flavorful, and the perfect thickness. The portions are generous and the prices are great. The menu is classic Chinese with traditional Chinese flavors. Everything that I've tried here over the years is delicious. Kingdom of Dumplings is an absolute hidden gem!

Yelp
I grew up not too far from this restaurant and heard good things about it but had never been for some reason so decided to come here while I was in the area. We ordered 2 items on the menu which was their Shanghai Soup Dumplings and Fried Rice. I saw that their soup dumplings were one of the most popular items so I had to give it a try. The skin was not too thick but I felt like it would have been better if it was a little thinner. The soup filling was on the lighter side vs the usual savory soup and it also had the slightest hint of soy sauce flavor. Overall did not stand out compare to other places. The fried rice had quite a few pieces of shrimp, but I wish there would have been a little more chicken in the rice as I felt like I didn't get much in our plate.

Yelp
Popped in here at 7:30pm on Wednesday and there was no wait. We ordered the pork and napa cabbage dumplings, beef pancakes, wontons in chili oil, potstickers, and red bean pancakes for dessert. The dumplings and potstickers were really good! The dumpling skin was the perfect thickness and the filling was good. The potstickers had the perfect crisp. The wontons were ok, nothing spectacular. I didn't like beef pancakes because there was this strange layer of slippery jelly in the pancakes. Might be a layer of fat, might be the beef slightly uncooked? Not sure. I had visited a long while ago, and the red bean pancakes were really good-crispy, light, and full of red bean. However, this time, the red bean pancakes were oilier, denser, and not as crispy as before, so we were disappointed. The restaurant is kind of small, and we had some plates that were a little bit dirty, but the staff was friendly and very willing to change out the utensils.

Yelp
We picked up a to-go order at the height of dinner time on a Saturday. The order was a little behind expected "ready" time, but that was totally fine by me because everything was super duper fresh. Even though it took us a little longer than ideal to get home & eat (lol trying to find parking in Hayes Valley on a Saturday night), every single thing was delicious once it finally met our tastebuds. Our order: C01 Shanghai Soup Dumpling (6 Pcs) $15.90 - my fave C06 Green Chives Pancake (2 Pcs) $9.95 - 11/10 will def get again, maybe even extra for leftovers ;P B05 Pork Dumpling with Corn (12 pcs) $11.45 - his fave B09 Chicken Dumpling with Green Chives (12 pcs) $11.45 - tasty but will likely skip & try something new next time D01 Pork and Shrimp Wonton with Wide Rice Noodle $11.95 - my second fave, but maybe try a different noodle next time When ordering online, it doesn't give a tip option; upon picking up the order, you sign receipt & can add tip at that time. One regret - I meant to ask for extra sauce :( both the vinegar & chili are v v vvv tasty and we only got two of each. The restaurant is tiny, but large enough that it seems tables turn over often enough that waiting for a table for two wouldn't take all that long, maybe go across the street to the pizza spot for a beer. They do have waitlist online, might be worth checking that before arriving to dine in if you want to be seated immediately. We'll definitely be back if in this hood, and looking forward to trying more flavor combos.

Yelp
I've been coming here for the past 2 years & things have changed, the prices & food. I was once impressed, but each dish was lackluster & not impressive. The only reason I visit is bc it is close to a K-Pop store, but I'll look else where for Shanghai dumplings & noodles in the future. Orders: Spicy Beef Tendon-a favorite of ours that has nice thin pieces infused with chili oil, but it wasn't as spicy as before. Pan Fried Dumpling- you only get 4 & it was a little doughy & the pork didn't have any flavor, so this was a little disappointing. Pork & Chive Soup Dumpling-you get 12 & this had a little more flavor as well as a lot of chives added. Dan Dan Noodle- it's a bit more saucier with a tomato like base, & was the most enjoyable dish for it's flavor & bouncy noodle texture. As far as spiciness, I found it to be pretty mild & would prefer a little more heat, but it was ok. Unfortunately, this time around I was not impressed with the food, so i wouldn't say I would return anytime soon.

Yelp
Service was quick and staff were nice. But there were a few issues. First the space is really small and when my husband had to use the bathroom he had to leave and walk a few doors down to another business and it smelled really bad of fish. The food was affordable but portions were small and I was disappointed about the quality. We ordered hot & sour soup, XLB (hardly any soup and small in size) chicken chow mein (little flavor & small portion) and pan fried dumplings (which weren't crunchy on the bottom. I normally go to Dumpling kitchen but they were closed on Wednesdays. Anyway, nice try- Ty got the experience!
google avatar

Wayne L.

Yelp
Total hole in a wall. The kitchen shares the room. I humbly suggest the dumplings and string beans as your first tasting. The dumping skins were chewy and the insides were flavorful and not overwhelming. This is a total mom and pop kind of shop worth a visit. Definitely a comfort food kind of place. I would drive and visit again from the peninsula. The services is good and friendly. The prices are not bad. Yelp Grading This is my rating system to help you gauge my rating. I feel it is a dis-service to over inflate ratings. I don't want you to be disappointed with your experience. Ratings are based upon the kind of business and expectations. If a business is a no frills bakery, then it will be rated on its food and service. Ambience is not a consideration. Anything under three stars is not worth mentioning. Meh. *** stars - Good overall. Some aspects are above the notch: food, service, and/or ambiance. Worth your time. **** Stars - Exceptional, short of perfect. ***** Stars - Perfect in all aspects. Food/Product quality, Service, and Ambiance

Yelp
We order take out from here. Chive and Pork dumpling was good. So we're the Shengjian bao. Food was still hot when we ate it. Prices are alright.

Yelp
Randomly came across this cute hole in the was restaurant with my husband. First impression was the lady who was our server was so nice and sweet. Food was amazing. Sweet and sour soup was hot to perfection and me and my husband were fighting for the last dumpling Lol. their hot sauce was the prize for me it was so delicious I told our server how much I loved it and she sent me home with a whole to go soup container!
google avatar

G K.

Yelp
As much as the food was good but after 30 minutes the ventilation in the place was overwheming especially when it gets crowded for dinner. It looks like a converted what used to be a garage & the only ventilation is the front door. More comfortable dumpling places elsewhere along Taraval.
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
Heard a lot of great things and was pretty disappointed. Nothing was particularly tasty. Dumplings seemed frozen and with minimal filling, which is unfortunate given the restaurant name. My favorite was the beef pancake. The ratio of bun to filling for the Shanghai pan fried soup dumplings was off. Service is classically no frills. Hole in the wall, a little run down. Overall, pretty cheap for what you get.
google avatar

Alberto L.

Yelp
Best dumplings I've ever had. It's a tiny space, our group of 9 people almost took up the entire restaurant. They did tell us that they have overflow space next door. We ordered about half of items available on the menu and everything was delicious. Parking was a challenge but this place is worth the struggle to find a spot. If you're in the area you should definitely check it out.
google avatar

Nathan V.

Yelp
3.5/5 for me Mom and pop type of restaurant. Seating is limited but the wait shouldn't be too bad. Really enjoyed the tofu. The spicy wontons were good as well. I would said the pricing is fair, but nothing really stood out.
google avatar

Corina D.

Yelp
I've checked in here so frequently to pick up DoorDash orders that it's about time I review this place. I first ordered from here because of a BOGO promotion for their cucumber salad on DoorDash. I soon, however, got hooked on their wok fried garlic string beans and salt and pepper tofu. The food is not the most clean-tasting, but it's very satisfying like a home-cooked meal, and the portion size for the price point is well worth it.
google avatar

Urmi N.

Yelp
Awesome! I will recommend this delicacy to my friends. The waitresses work hard and efficiently.
google avatar

Apicha J.

Yelp
Very friendly and attentive service, feel like you eat at a friend's place. Homie ambience. Food is definitely delicious, tastes like homemade. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and fulfilled.
google avatar

Yelp
This place seems to go by a different name on UberEats. It's called Vision Dumpling there. I've only ordered delivery, not been here in person. I ordered Pork Dumpling with Napa Cabbage 白菜猪肉水饺, Shanghai Soup Dumpling 灌汤小笼包, and Shrimp Dumpling with Green Chives 韭菜虾饺. The pork dimplings and soup dumplings were my favorites. The shrimp dumplings were good, but had a few too many chives for my taste. They overwhelmed the shrimp. The order was packaged well and arrived hot. I'd gladly order from here again.
google avatar

Erica K.

Yelp
This small hole in the wall always has a line of people waiting during the weekends, however pro tip: visit at the beginning of the week to avoid the crowd because the food is good, but not that good to wait! According to Yelp and their website, they open at 11AM, however we arrived later and the man notified us that they'd be ready at 11:30AM instead so be wary of being too punctual here. We ordered: Shrimp Dumpling with Green Chives (12/plate) Vegetarian Dumpling (12/plate) Green Chives Pancake Beef Roll Pancake Bei Jing Bean Paste Noodle You can actually order and pay online ahead of time, and if you spend $50+ you get 10% off plus they accept cash/card. A few blocks down, they have a brick-and-mortar storefront where you can buy their frozen dumplings at an even more affordable price if you do the total cost per dumpling breakdown. After dining in and getting that "experience," I would come back but strictly for takeout as it's evident everyone comes here for the food and fair pricing, and not the ambiance.

Yelp
If you don't mind the lack of cleanliness in a restaurant, or eating in a tight space with other customers, and you solely focus on the food... and it's pretty decent food don't get me wrong... then this is the place for you! The seating and interior is a little run down, hole-in-the-wall kind of place, with the restroom literally two doors down. I recommend going with a friend so you're not alone! We ordered many dishes and I couldn't take all the photos since we were so hungry but some memorable dishes were the XLB dumplings, spicy fried tofu, the pig ears, green onion pancake, shrimp and chive dumpling, and the XO Beef chow fun! If I were to pick my favorite dish it would be a tie between the XO beef chow fun and the soup dumplings. The wrap for the dumplings are not too thick and it held the soup well! You have to request the ginger for it though and honestly it came too late. We had already eaten it all! I couldn't really taste the XO sauce in the beef chow fun but the noodles were so fresh and I loved the cut cabbage on top. It was a nice touch and added great texture. There were a lot of to-go orders and doordash orders being picked up so it's a pretty popular place for dinner. Service was friendly. Someone checked in with us on how we were doing and refilled our tea pot multiple times. I wish there were other stand out dumplings or maybe I just didn't order the right ones. Frankly, I'm not sure if this would be my go-to place for dumplings as there are many great competitors in the city. However if I'm ever craving their beef chow fun I'd definitely come back for that!
google avatar

Jill Fay R.

Yelp
While the food is good, there are no descriptions anywhere of what's inside. We ordered green chive pancakes thinking they'd be like other pancakes I've ordered - nope. There was no picture and it turns out they have shrimp and eggs and noodles inside. And my kid is allergic to shrimp. Not a single listing of theirs has a description of what is inside. Last time I order here!
google avatar

Yelp
I hope they stay in business forever and stay profitable. Super authentic dishes. I love their Beijing noodles! If you order delivery, it comes well packaged too.
google avatar

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
My favorite comfort food! We ordered this to go so we can watch Bachelor in Paradise at home :) We had napa and pork dumpling, pork shrimp chives dumpling, salt and pepper chicken wings, grilled chicken fried rice, and XO beef noodle. Not sure if they were being nice and threw in an extra noodle for us or it was by mistake ~ but either way, everything was so goooood! Their orange hot sauce is like their signature sauce. Pairs perfectly with everything!

Yelp
WHEN: Friday, 11/11/22 @ 3pm Took a trip out to the sunset district to originally eat at another location but they ended up being closed when I got there. Ended up finding this place on Yelp which was just down the street! Kingdom of Dumpling is a very lowkey restaurant, with only a few tables squished into a cozy place. They have a pretty extensive menu specializing in Xian and sichuan food. What I got: 25. Xian spicy cold noodle ($9.95) -- noodles were thick and bouncy with a chili oil and vinegar taste, noticed the mala accent was pretty strong but it was delicious! 28. Pork dumpling with green chives ($9.95) -- thin, chewy skin with tender filling, perfect on a cold day Kingdom of Dumpling is a great traditional Chinese spot for some lowkey good eats! The owner of the restaurant also helped serve the food and kept asking the customers how the food was. You can taste the heart in this restaurant, come support local businesses!

Yelp
Best tofu fried rice in San Francisco, hands down. And the cucumber salad is always crisp and flavorful.

Yelp
The crown has fallen within the Kingdom of Dumplings. Located on a stretch of Taraval Street in San Francisco's Parkside neighborhood, Kingdom of Dumplings is just one of a handful of restaurants that specialize in Xiao Long Baos, those delectable dumplings that are filled with a protein of your choice and hot soup and are steamed to perfection. After reading an article written by one of the talented food writers at the San Francisco Chronicle that profiled the numerous restaurants that specialize in these soup dumplings that inhabit Taraval Street, I made it my mission to visit each of them one by one. Unfortunately this recent experience at Kingdom of Dumplings made me seriously question this decision to try Kingdom of Dumplings first, as everything from their food to their lackluster service to their less than pleasing interior dining room seriously left me and dining mates wanting more. On a recent weekend afternoon a group of four of us were driving through the Sunset and Parkside neighborhoods looking for a restaurant to enjoy a lunchtime meal, and someone in my party suggested we see what was available along Taraval Street. Knowing that they were the home to a multitude of Chinese restaurants that specialize in dumplings, we drove up and down Taraval Street, there just happened to be a parking space that opened right in front of Kingdom of Dumplings, and we took that as a sign and decided to dine here for lunch. They were busy, but not super busy that they couldn't see our table of four people right away in their small dining room. The menu at Kingdom of Dumplings is separated into sections such as Lasted New Dishes, Dumplings (12), Dim Sum, Soup Noodle, Soup Wide Rice Noodle & Soup QQ Noodle, Desserts and Drinks. Since some of their menu items had images to go with their names, we decided to order things based on the images, which would turn out to be a mistake, as nothing looked like the images of the food featured on their menu. Case in point, we ordered their menu item that was numbered 3 that was named their Five Spicy Marinated Beef, we also ordered their 50, which were their signature Shanghai Soup Dumplings, their number 51, which were their Shanghai Pan Fried Soup Dumplings, and their number 57, which were their Beef Roll Pancakes. We also requested to order a tea pot of warm water, of which they do charge during lunch hours, which most Chinese restaurants do, so we smartly bring our own tea bag to put in the teapot so we are charged slightly less. The first dish to come out were our Five Spicy Marinated Beef and they looked nothing like the image on their menu. They were cold, flavorless, and doused with oyster sauce which made the entire dish overly salty. The second dish to come out were our Shanghai Pan Fried Soup Dumplings, and they come four on a plate, but the image on their menu did feature six for some reason. These dumplings were an ooey gooey mess that did not resemble anything that was featured on their menu, with the inside of the dumpling lacking in any depth or flavor. For our third and forth dishes, they were better, but in no way reflective of what good Chinese cuisine from Taiwan and the Shanghai regions should be. Our Shanghai Soup Dumplings were decent and warm to the touch but still lacked those fresh ingredients that would normally contribute to the overall taste of this signature entrée. And their Beef Roll Pancakes, which was our best dish of our meal as they had the best ingredients which made them the biggest entree that we were able to enjoy, but it too did not resemble the image on their menu. Their service too was lacking in any energy as when we requested that they fill our teapot with more hot water, they literally emptied out the entire contents of our tea leaves and refilled it with more hot water, normally they just refill the teapot with hot water or bring a hot water kettle to refill it at your table. I have never experienced that before with a teapot as emptying the contents served no purpose but to remove the tea leaves we brought ourselves. Our total bill was roughly 32 dollars, which was reasonable, but our server questioned if four dishes was enough for our party when we ordered. After having the four dishes we had this afternoon at Kingdom of Dumpling, I am so glad we only ordered those four, as if this is what is representative of the rest of the food that is being served here. I will gladly try any of their nearby competitors if they are even halfway better, as I can see clearly that the kingdom is crumbling real fast and I fear not even a knight in shining armor can save them!

Yelp
The beef rolls were delicious with a barely-sweetness in the sauce. The texture was fried and crunchy yet soft. The pork and corn dumplings were a hit for me! I wasn't a fan of this sheng jian bao here, though. Overall would return again, thank you !

Yelp
What's the one thing I really love about the Stern Grove summer concerts? It's that I get a chance to come to one of my favorite Chinese joints. Love this unassuming local restaurant where good things stay the same. It's a very small place holds about 20 people , service is great. There are so many good things on the menu all reasonably priced and homemade. From the habanero sauce on the table to the dumplings, even the desert sesame balls are made in house to order. Check out my attached photos of the menu where I have marked my favorite vegetarian dishes. You really can't go wrong here, look at my recs & enjoy yourself. It's a real bargain and a totally outer sunset experience.

Yelp
This hole-in-the wall is such a gem. If you want inexpensive and delicious food, you need to come here. I came here with my cousin and boyfriend, and we ordered 5 dishes for $45. SO CHEAP! But also, it was an extremely satisfying and yummy meal that I would come back for. We ended up getting an order of garlic string beans, steamed dumplings, beef pancake, spicy wontons, and the pan-fried soup dumplings. Here's my take on what we ordered: Garlic string beans / steamed dumplings / beef pancake / spicy wontons: these all met my expectations and I would definitely order these dishes again! I honestly can't remember which steamed dumplings we ordered, but I remember how it made me feel when I ate it. It's comfort food at its very finest, like a hug in your mouth. But not in a suffocating or choking kind of way. The garlic string beans were nice and crispy, very savory, tons of garlicky flavor, and they weren't squeaky. The beef pancake and spicy wontons were very much on par with others that I've had in my lifetime and I can't come up with any areas for improvement. Pan-fried soup dumplings: This was my least favorite item and I would forgo this dish next time. Although they were pan fried, they weren't crispy enough to my liking. I found the inside to be soggy and the little soup it contained was bland. The service was both a hit and miss. I loved our waiter's enthusiasm and how he made sure all the diners were having a good time. He is also a master upseller. We didn't initally plan to get any veggies, but he somehow convinced us to get the garlic green beans. My cousin ordered a bag of frozen dumplings for her roommate, and ended up getting convinced to get another bag for herself. Anyway, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing because the green beans were delicious and my cousin was able to go a night without figuring dinner plans. They also forgot our steamed dumpling dish which came way later than everything else when we were really full. However, Chinese restaurants aren't exactly known for their stellar service and I'd still come back for the amazing food.

Yelp
I've only ordered through Door Dash. Everything I've tried has been excellent, and has arrived quickly.
