4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: November 22 | Eater LA

"A longtime Culver City Mediterranean spot focusing on the entire region with halal meats and recipes that can lean Lebanese, Greek, or Egyptian; expect lamb and kafta kebabs, shawarma, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, and falafel. The falafel is served Egyptian style — full of fava beans and ground herbs with a slightly airy consistency — and is carefully placed in pita bread with garlicky toum and tahini, offering a refreshing break from the chickpea version. Nearby Sepulveda Boulevard’s longtime dive bar Scarlet Lady Saloon is two blocks away, making for an easy post-meal stop." - Eater Staff

Google
So I’ll start this by saying that I’ve eaten a lot of gyros in my life. I like gyros. So when I saw there was a spot near me serving gyros, it really excited me and filled a craving that I had for awhile. I got two lamb gyros with feta cheese and extra tomato/onions. I was greeted with a smile and a laugh from an extremely nice couple. They got my food to me quick and I devoured both. Honestly I could’ve just done one with how big they were. Here are the takeaways: great food, great service, and great prices. That’s all I need

Iron Fortitude

Google
Discovered King's Kabob today and I'm hooked! I got my plate and I felt like a kid at a friend's house and his parents were treating me to a home cooked meal. After a hard gym session and a shopping trip, it was a welcome meal. Definitely coming back and I'm definitely doing it often. Thank you King's Kabob!

Google
If you’re looking for authentic Egyptian style falafel, look no further than here. This place is mom and pop owned and very delicious! The kofta was also very juicy and flavorful. Homemade hummus and yogurt dip too! Will definitely come back soon!

Google
Delicious. I recommend the lamb chop plate. Cooked rare. And substitute out the rice for a salad. Great flavor. Made to order. Family vibes.

Elizabeth Hartigan

Google
tiny place but the couple that run it are so sweet, and everything's homemade. I've gotten the veggie place and the H likes their kebabs, of course. A good choice for Meditteranean food. One time, their son was there too.

Google
This little spot has been a main stay for Mediterranean food for more than a decade. You are going there for the food. It is neat and clean.

Google
First time coming here on a whim. Felt like some good Mediterranean food and Hell yeah, it’s so good. We ordered the beef & lamb shawarma and kafta kabobs. Came with really good rice, fresh pitas, banana pepper, and 2 sauces. Oh and they have a grade A and are very kind people. If you’re looking for some good freshly cooked food, it’s here. My new go to place.

Google
I love the Chicken Kabob plate all day long, but when you crave a Gyro theirs is so delicious! I love the lentil soup when it’s available (homemade!) and have been enjoying coming here for many years, they are a Mom & Pop shop and so friendly focusing on good quality food here. I am always craving King’s Kabob when I want yummy Mediterranean food. I just tried the Spanikopita with Greek Salad and it was delicious! Mike got the Falafel sandwich (in foil) and he loved it!

Yelp
What a gem! Great food and the sweetest owners. Their tzatziki is excellent as is the beef and lamb gyro. The salad is always fresh as well! There is plenty of seating if you wish to dine in.

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Great food and owners are super nice people! Left my purse there after eating, called them up and it was closing time but they waited for us to come back for it. Was our 1st time there tonight and we will definitely be back!

Lynn Y.

Yelp
the kafta is homemade by the owner, freshly ground organic beef! I spoke to his wife and she says they have been running this restaurant for 30 years. such a sweet couple. they have moved to a new location but are truly mom and pop. authentic Egyptian food, straight from the heart. I love that the food was served on dishware that looked like it came from their home. If you don't like beef, the chicken was very tender and a big hit with my kids. They only have soda and water so if you want another drink the shaved ice store next door has some Hawaiian juice. kid-friendly, we sat outside for more space because it wasn't raining. afterwards swing by the toy shop on the side- they have a slot car race track the kids would love to try out! plus funkos and other figurines galore. If you are willing to drive a bit (3 min) after lunch, star eco is just east on Jefferson and the kids can pet some lizards, snakes, and tortoise rescue animals.

Yelp
This gyro was life-changing. I found myself in the vicinity after a disappointing day of trying to patch a tire which led me across West LA to a tire shop down the street. I was hangry and disillusioned with the state of my day, which quickly went to waste quickly in the midst of my complications. This gyro sandwich is the redeeming factor of the past four hours of my existence. When I entered, I was confused by the lack of prices, menus, and... people. There was an older woman who met me with a warm smile and welcomed me in as if I were her own grandson. She quickly took my order, which left me gobsmacked when I saw that this, unbeforeseen-at-that-moment mystery gyro, would only cost a mere 11 dollars, including tax and a 20% tip. The woman quickly got to work and I witnessed her prepare my gyro with care and intention, shaving it carefully off the spit and garnishing it with a superb amount of toppings and delectable sauce. The gyro was fresh, tender, and satisfied my hangriness and impatience with ease. This is the definition of comfort food. The gyro was served on a random cutesy plate which completed the developing hole-in-the-wall restaurant discovery saga for me. I inhaled the sandwich so quickly it must have startled the woman. On the way out I thanked her for my meal, dropped my dishes off, and she told me: "have a wonderful night, until next time ." This spot epitomizes small business America in a way which no Greek chain (looking at you Daphne's and Luna Grill) will ever emulate. Bravo and I will be back soon.

Yelp
An excellent meal was had here by me and the BF. It is owned by a sweet husband and wife and the wife took good care of us. I got the chicken gyro for $10.99 which was delicious and she was not cheap about the tzatziki sauce and asked if we wanted extra, when does that ever happen? Answer, never! Double and triple bonus that the meat is seasoned so well. Boyfriend got the beef and the lamb plate and it was divine. The meat melts in your mouth and it came with a massive Greek salad. It was soo good. I will get that next time too (minus the onions). $14.99. They also told me, as someone with garlic sensitivity, to avoid the hummus and the chicken kabobs. I can do that! The restaurant has about 3-4 tables inside and is very quaint. Also we got homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert and they were very good. We will definitely come back!

Yelp
Carry out kabob restaurant, so nothing fancy, but the owners are gracious hosts that make you feel taken of. They are warm and generous and make delicious food, that feels very home cooked (in a good way). Great neighborhood spot for us.

Shandra S.

Yelp
I was super hungry after a doctor's appointment, and googled "restaurants near me". This place popped up first. I love Mediterranean food of all kinds, and it was just two minutes away. Sold! I ordered the falafel sandwhich, to go. It's an outdated building so wouldn't be my first choice to bring a date or anything, but the warmth of the owners was just . The woman who made my food was so kind. You could just feel it in your soul. She just radiates kindness and good energy- cliche, but beyond true. You can tell she makes her food with love. When she handed me my food, she said "you're going to love this sandwhich". It's true! I did! Simple, and tasty. Totally hit the spot.

Yelp
Super nice staff and want to try the kabob and combination plate Will be back soon to try

Yelp
Pleasant experience from beginning to end with service and food. Warm welcome and homey feel. First time visitor with my boyfriend. Literally writing this as we eat every last bite of my Kafta Kabob and his Beef and Lamb Shawarma! Lovely people and lovely fresh food. Great portions as well! Will be coming back FOR SURE!
google avatar

Saida J.

Yelp
Great food, awesome service. Owners are very welcoming. Beef Lamb Shawerma Plate is delicious. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I have loved King's Kabob for many years! They are now reopened at this location (only two doors away from previous pick up window location). They still make delicious food and also do catering as well! We crave their food on the regular, this Mom and Pop shop is worth stopping by!

Shruthi L.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was a child, I love this place and it's never let me down. The owners are super sweet to my family and me. The food has consistently slapped every time I've gone here. I went yesterday for dinner and damn near cried from nostalgia. Love yall :)
google avatar

Terry P.

Yelp
A real mom and pop Gyro place no authentic, delicious food. She makes her own tzatziki sauce. Can't be beat by these chains.

Rob M.

Yelp
Nice little Mediterranean spot. Gyro plate was amazing. I would recommend to anyone who likes that kind of stuff.
google avatar

Tommy H.

Yelp
Amazing food at a great price! Family vibes and just really nice people. I had to work in culver for an entire week and ate here everyday! Try this place out if In culver. Fresh high quality ingredients! Nice people running it! Can't ask for more!!

Norma Letticia R.

Yelp
This place is absolutely phenomenal great service, fresh food, healthy in love . On his line of menu absolutely over-the-top, fresh quality

Zach E.

Yelp
I've eaten here 3 times in 2 days and loved every meal. The gyro sandwiches (wraps really, in a thick flat bread) are delicious, the meat is perfectly seasoned and cooked. The falafel sandwiches (in pita) are similarly great. Portions are very generous and prices are low. The owners are lovely and very friendly.

judy m.

Yelp
I wish I could do 0 stars. Horrible food. I think I got about 2 cups of mushy red rice and a pepper on my gyro plate. My gf ordered the chicken kabob and got served 5 pieces of grilled chicken and a bit less than 2 cups of red mushy rice. I've had Mediterranean food before, and never have I had red mushy rice. The flavor is of tomato sauce/paste and no salt at all! The chicken was bland as well. She only had one piece of chicken and left the rest behind. I ate the gyro meat with pita bread and left the rice behind.

James B.

Yelp
Get the Gyro sandwich. It's fantastic. You can thank me later. This small shop lacks fancy décor and doesn't have much to offer in terms of ambiance, but they cook everything with love and it comes out amazing.

Siona P.

Yelp
Fantastic food & welcoming service! Feels homey, as your grandma has made a delicious meal for you :) Pictured is the beef kabob and the gyro meat on a greek salad!

Yelp
Most authentic Mediterranean food in California not doubts. Own by an incredible Egyptian family brings to your mouth the perfect taste mixed with the most original ingredients. Omar is an incredible host, mamma and Pappa makes you feel like a family. I noticed they have a lot of recurring customers that interact like a family. The coffee is excellent and it has a really small but cute seating area. No good for kids, great for takeout. Prices are great and everything fresh! On my top 3 places in California for sure
google avatar

Connie D.

Yelp
This is a regular stop for me and has been for years. I order the gyro plate, dbl meat, special order for the plate and salad. Always delicious, extremely friendly. So, nice to have this neighborhood treasure in right around the corner from my home.
google avatar

Libby A.

Yelp
It's a humble little place but well worth the visit. The H and I had an amazing fresh dinner. I recommend the felafel, the beef and lamb plate and lemon ginger tea. I had the gyro which has yummy grilled bread and tender beef and lamb filing. There was some kind of green yogurt sauce too. They gave us some baklava for dessert on the house! Yum! We'll be back.
google avatar

Ambar C.

Yelp
The food is okay but not spectacular. I found the grilled chicken and the lamb gyro to be pretty under seasoned. If you are in the neighborhood and really hungry, give King's Kabob a try. It won't be terrible. That's about as good as this review gets for the food. That said, the woman who came to the window was very friendly and accommodating. She specially created a kid's meal for my toddler, which consisted of a little bit of chicken, a fair amount of rice, and some chopped tomato. It was such a thoughtful thing to do that it really bums me out the food wasn't very good. Also, the prices are a little high given the quality, and the portion sizes are pretty big. There is not a ton of parking right out front of the restaurant order window on Sawtelle, but you can park in the nearby lot on Sepulveda in front of the Tattle Tale bar. Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed with the food, but I'd be willing to try it again if I'm passing by and really hungry. I hope the rather dry, under seasoned gyro and chicken were just an "off" batch that day. Great customer service goes a long way with me, so I'm giving it an A-OK rating.

Yelp
We've been going here for years. Can't recommend it more highly! Really really nice people. So glad they made it through the COVID.

Yelp
When you come here expect to be treated with kindness and eat some delicious and authentic Mediterranean fare. It's been in Culver City for years and I don't go very often but when I do I'm never disappointed. I ordered the vegetarian plate which came with Falafel (perfectly fried and when I bite into it perfectly spiced and cooked and soft and flakey), green bell pepper stuffed with maybe a tomato rice, stuffed grape leaves, baba ghanoush and hummus. It's your typical vegetarian plate at a Mediterranean restaurant but it's so good! Just because you make Falafel doesn't mean you make a perfect Falafel and in my opinion good Falafel is hard to find. A lot of times they're hard and crunchy. Maybe fried too hard or maybe even left out too long. King Kabob's falafel's are the opposite - like I mentioned before. Delicious! King Kabob is truly a Mom and Pop stand. It's owned by a really great Egyptian family that has been part of and contributing to Culver City for a long time. In fact I really have no excuses for why I haven't written about them sooner! When you decide to visit King Kabob just walk up to the window and order what you would like and maybe take a seat outside in the little seating area or maybe just take it to wherever you're going. There's street parking which is directly in front of it and I think there's parking in the back. Great place for a quick and delicious meal!

Ray M.

Yelp
Go first time there, so disappointed, worst food ever! And I know good Mediterranean food based on where I work the cucumber, dill salad it's actually a cucumber dill dressing. There's a huge difference!hummus does not look like that, so I'm guessing that the hummus was mixed with some kind of cream and pulverized, and I guess the locals don't know the difference would not eat here again ever basmati rice does not look like that. I've been cooking it for years at home.

Kemara N.

Yelp
Was gifted the chicken kabob plate - absolutely yummy. The cucumber sauce was refreshing and the chicken nicely grilled. The portion is decent and two pitas is quite kind! I happily recommend.

Yelp
Ok I saw this place on yelp and well it didn't have so many reviews but who cares you have to try things out sometimes. Soooo I did! Met this lovely friendly woman who asked if she could help in any way. I ordered the gyro sandwich, the platter( lamb) and also the lamb platter. I asked about the lamb if I could get it medium and I was assured that the meat was soft. Literally after going to coffee shop( which her beautiful daughter works) they brought the food to my friends car and was so gracious and gave another thing of hummus ( thank you). Everyone loved their food and the lamb I had was indeed soft and juicy. That's an A+ for me and I was indeed satisfied. You do get a huge amount of rice so you should be full after. No complaints here, will be returning.

Yelp
I love King's Kabob! The gyros and the tabbouleh are so good. Was sad when I went by today and saw that they are currently closed. Looks like the dive bar on the corner expanded and so King's Kabob moved a few doors down. Sign says they will be opening soon. I can't wait for their re-opening.
google avatar

mike f.

Yelp
One of the worst meal I've had, plate of chicken kobob? Is that what it was? Rice was poor excuse for Basrami rice, it was copy of Spanish rice ! Chicken was tough, another words we ended up throwing away the dishes!

Mark L.

Yelp
They just moved their restaurant a couple of doors down from their old location, and it's much nicer. Absolutely delicious falafel and shawarma sandwiches, and you can get a very good baklava for dessert. The staff is always helpful and friendly. Their new location looks like a bookstore, with shelves full of books, it's very cozy. I tried an Egyptian coffee with cloves there once, it was very tasty. I've been coming here for years, it's always been a pleasant experience. For the best falafels and shawarma in Culver City, do try King's Kabob. Note: Today (June 6) I went down there and talked to Omar, the son of the owners. The restaurant is temporarily closed for remodeling, but it will reopen again at this location in July under the name of King's Cafe. Falafel lovers, I will see you there in a month.
google avatar

Ran C.

Yelp
Another long overdue review I'm in an organized dart group that throws at a nearby bar so I've pretty much eaten at all the establishments around the area, with the exception of fast food. A few months back, I tried King's Kabob. King's isn't a sit down dine in establishment. It's a window with very limited sidewalk seating. I overheard one customer mention that she'd wait in their coffee shop for her food but I opted to eat outdoors. I ordered and paid for my beef and lamb shawerma, sandwich only. Sat down and waited a while for my order. No wait service. The food wasn't terrible but I thought it was a little on the bland and the meat a little on the dry side. As I'm in the area regularly, I'm sure I'll try King's again to see if my opinion changes. For now, it's OK.
google avatar

Lish A.

Yelp
I love this place. Thanks to the pandemic, I searched my area for smaller businesses to support and found King's Kabob. It's an unassuming hole in the wall. Wow. I'm sad I didn't discover it sooner. Delicious every single time I order. The owners are sweet. The prep time is good. My go-to is the falafel sandwich with a few extra pickled pepperoncinis (friggitellos) and the price is excellent. I recommend giving this spot a shot.
google avatar

Cynthia A.

Yelp
I am no Kabob expert, but this place seems to be the real deal. When I am in the area it is hard to resist their food. So good and fresh. No fast food here. I stopped by to pick up some tabbuleh and cucumber salad believing it would be a quick stop since I thought it was all prepared ahead. WRONG! Everything was made to order!! Parking can be an issue if the bar next door is busy. But it is well worth parking in the residential area around the block and making a short walk.
google avatar

Marc B.

Yelp
The food is excellent every time. The proprietors are so friendly. They have the best baba ganoosh I've ever tried in the United States.

Charlotte S.

Yelp
A few things I really appreciate about this joint: 1. Paper take out containers! Thank you for making eating out a lot less of a wasteful experience! I feel waaay less guilty about getting takeout from here because of it. 2. Really solid falafel sandwich! 3. The baba ghanoush is THE BEST 4. The owners are really kind and polite. :) I guess I'm not a baba ghanoush expert, but it's truly the best I've ever eaten in my life. SO GOOD. I am stuffed, having just eaten a full meal from the king, and my mouth is STILL SALIVATING thinking about that delicious dip. Thanks for being a stand up part of this neighborhood, king kabob. Come support this great local restaurant.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
Not much more than a walk up counter but the gyros are fantastic and the couple who runs this place are sweet as pie. Definitely worth stopping by for a delicious yet inexpensive meal!
google avatar

Pamjcl C.

Yelp
OMG ! Lil hide-away. Ordered lamb gyro with extra sauce. Delicious on soft flat bread and packed full of meat. Ordered an extra side of meat for my breakfast. Service was amazing. If you think you want a gyro...don't walk. RUN to kings kabab.
google avatar

Ram R.

Yelp
It's very difficult to make bad Mediterranean food, but this place has managed it hands down. And the portions were tiny, thank God, in a way, if you know what I mean! I ordered the 'Falafel plate from Egypt' with 2 pita breads it comes with. After about 15 minutes, I was given 5 or 6 itsy bitsy tiny falafels, about 2 spoonfuls each if baba ghanoush and hummus, a few strips of onion and lettuce. The pita bread tasted good, probably bought from outside, but the rest of everything else was garbage. It's a travesty to call that gob hummus. Baba ghanoush was a sticky goo. It's a tiny shop. I really didn't want to complain and got up cursing my choice. But when the owner asked if everything was OK twice, I said No truthfully. Interestingly, the coffee shop seems to be owned by the same guys. I told the coffee shop guy (son?) about my miserable experience and he insisted we go back and complain to the owner. I was hesitant but he insisted. We went back and I did my complaint about quality in a polite tone (after all it was only 10 bucks!). But this time when I returned to order coffee the son got all huffy and puffy and refused to serve me, asking me to leave! The falafel owner said "I am glad". I don't know what that meant. Go figure ;-) I am sorry I lost my ten bucks. I should have known better walking into a trap when there were hardly anybody during peak lunch hour. What a bunch of weirdos! Save your money, go elsewhere less threatening and with better, pleasant food.
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
Only the beat from Mohammad and his wife. The food, the service is all very neighborly.
google avatar

Emykat D.

Yelp
The owners are super nice and sweet, very hard-working people but it's not Shawarma it's Gyro, Their prices are reasonable though
google avatar

Jacqueline R.

Yelp
Don't go here, will NOT be coming back ever again. Ordered over the phone a beef gyro with rice on the side and a Greek salad with chicken. Once I got home I realized my order was a chicken kabob plate with a side salad and a plate with a bed of rice and beef on top. Called to explain the order and return the food for what I ordered. Went to king kabob to pick up the correct order and was met with a completely rude response and to "look up the menu before ordering". I wasn't rude, even though my order was wrong. I never said I wanted a kabob or a plate. Also, the Greek salad and beef gyro are both items on their menu. You work in the service industry, better not be rude to paying customers! It's also overpriced, save your money and go to Mykynos Greek Grill.

pablo p.

Yelp
Review of the chicken shawarma plate. I enjoy middle eastern fare but just finished up a Chicken shawarma plate and I am disappointed. There could not have been more than two ounces of thinly sliced chicken and approximately 10 ounces of rice. The sauces were good but I can't give this place more than one star due to the lack of poultry. I recommend the name of the dish be changed. "Rice plate with small chicken strips."
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
Placed a take-out order at 5:45pm and they said to pick it up at 6:15pm when I arrived at 6:17pm, I was told it would be 15min late. There's only one other person here so I think they forgot
google avatar

Colby G.

Yelp
This place is an abomination. The chicken schwarma was some sort of spam like poultry prepared to the consistency of soggy wonton noodles. The rice was practically porridge and the hummus was watery and flavorless, the falafels tasted like fried pancake batter with a dash of parsley mixed in. Completely inedible. Don't do this to yourself.
google avatar

Dominique M.

Yelp
I've now been here twice and thought it was now appropriate to leave a review on this cute little Kabob stand. I got the falafel Sandwich and boy oh boy was it delicious! So delicious that I found myself here again four days later. Definitely a place to order food to go as they only have 1 small table and two chairs only appropriate to wait for your food if even available to sit at. I hear their breakfast is amazing and I plan to try it within the next week or two. Today I had tried The falafel sandwich with cucumber sauce and feta cheese as extras.... and OMG, yes I just said OMG... I don't find myself saying OMG often.... BUT OMG! I can't wait to come back, my taste buds miss King kabob dearly. YEP GO HEAD AND CALL ME SPRUNG :) Oh and this place is not visible from Supulveda and hides on the corner of Sawettle, so I would have never discovered this place had I not searched "falafel sandwich" on Yelp.com... Thank you so much yelp, I love you :)

Jolon B.

Yelp
Love their falafel and baklava. Simple walk up counter place but it doesn't really matter these days. Great prices too!
