Kingston Tropical is Jamaican patty royalty - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"It’s debatable who makes the best Jamaican patties in The Bronx, but Kingston Tropical is top a contender. The Wakefield bakery has been open since 1970 and sells generously sized, lightly browned patties that are crisp around the edges and packed with heaps of chicken, vegetables, or finely minced beef. Get one, stuff it into a brick of the sweet and fluffy coco bread, and grab some cinnamon rolls and carrot cake to go." - Bryan Kim

Where to Find Generously Stuffed Jamaican Patties in NYC | Eater NY

"Kingston Tropical Bakery is located less than a block from Champion Bakery, also on this list, but there’s enough demand for these business’ baked goods that both tend to draw a crowd. The patties sold here are made using a smooth, not flakey, crust that gives way to generous beef and curry chicken fillings. Further down on the menu, and best of all, is the meatloaf, a patty-shaped piece of coco bread packed with meat that’s big on beefy flavor, with a pleasant funk." - Luke Fortney

The Best (and Worst) of the Year I Ate New York

Traveling to a Restaurant With a Perfect Rating on Doordash

"A bakery notable for its beef patties: the filling is vibrant and flecked with bits of red chile and garlic, and the buttery crust is substantial without flaking into a mess, making for a very good handheld patty that’s worth seeking out even if eating one in a nearby park after a long subway ride can feel a bit anticlimactic." - Tammie Teclemariam

Google
Ok this was a really good patty but definitely wasn’t the best in my opinion. With that being said if I’m in the area I’ll definitely be back to grab a quick cheap bite. pro tip get one coco bread for every 2 patties it’s the best combo. I feel a whole bread too much but half a bread with one was amazing. Loved it. Some people say it’s worth the travel I think it’s a local gem if you in the area definitely check it out just remember cash only and $4 a patty and $2 I think it was for the coco bread Delicious

Google
I honestly don’t know where to begin. The lady who helped us was so kind and welcoming. I’ve tried their meatloaf, beef patty, veggie patty, and chicken patty, all of them were AMAZING! The spice fruit bun was fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend 👌🏽 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Kingston Tropical Bakery is one of my go to spots for patties especially when paired with their cocoa bread. The bread is soft, fluffy, and buttery, and goes perfectly with the warm, flavorful patties. I also tried the carrot cake loaf, which was very good moist, well spiced, and just the right amount of sweetness. The line can look long sometimes, but it moves very quickly. Definitely worth the stop!

Google
Just bought 6 beef and 6 chicken patties. They are great. I am happy to buy extra and share with friends and family. Also grabbed a bread pudding. Boy that thing is dense! One piece is enough for two 😉👍

Google
GOTTA TRY EVERY ONE ON THE MENU! I had the beef veggie and chicken!! Fast, hot, best patties I have ever definitely made with TLC The vegetable one I can eat like 5. I think I got 6 things paid 20

Google
My first time trying coco bread with beef patty. Very interesting though to me to have the beef patty inside the coco bread. But it works good together. Their beef patty got good spice in it. Definitely good beef patty to get. They do closed at 4 and line can be long out to the door.

Google
Kingston Tropical Bakery is the real deal. If you’re from around here, you already know — their patties are unmatched. That crust is flaky, buttery, perfect every time. Seasoned just right, a little spicy but not crazy. You grab one fresh out the oven and it hits different. Coco bread is a must — soft, pillowy, straight up comfort food. Throw a patty inside and boom, you got yourself a whole meal. They move quick too, so even if there’s a line, you’re not waiting long. It’s one of those Bronx staples — no frills, no gimmicks, just good food that always delivers. If you’re in the area and never had a Kingston patty, you’re seriously missing out.

Google
I drove from Brooklyn to this place after I saw a few reviews and YouTube short. I ordered, chicken patties which I loved. Beef patties which my family said was amazing and the meatloaf and for that I went back inside and ordered more before I even drove away, soft coco bread and the meat filling was AMAZING. It was worth the drive and I will be going back. The people were relative friendly just busy so they were not chatty.

Yelp
Great patties, even the veg which I don't usually like Also very good coco bread. CASH ONLY as a small bakery should be!

Yelp
The joy of a perfectly made beef patty is hard to forget and Kingston Tropical Bakery certainly dishes out a stellar beef patty that is well worth getting! The menu is straightforward with multiples types of patties, breads, cakes and some juices. The beef patty with cocoa bread and a carrot cake loaf are my go-to orders and I would recommend the carrot cake which is moist, not overly sweet, and packed with taste. The whole environment and service are no frills and they keep things moving quickly. I would definitely suggest stopping by here if you happen to be in the area or passing through!

Yelp
In my opinion, they have the best patties in the Bronx. I don't like beef patties, but my mom and brother love theres. I normally get and enjoy their chicken patties, veggie patties, coco bread, round bun. I used to get there sugar buns, but I can't eat anymore due to my health, but I recommend if your in good health, try it out. The service is great, the line moves really fast so don't let the line scare you.

Yelp
This is definitely the second best, if not the best best tasting beef I've had in a Jamaican beef patty.... I mean, it's fuggin'phenomenallyflavored It's a spot you just gotta try... I've gotta head up there soon and get some other items for sure; the coco bread to start. The chicken was good too, no complaints from me.

Karate M.

Yelp
Only reviewing the beef patties. saw many reviews for them as really good, when i tried it, tasted incredibly peculiar, like human blood like some sort of metal spice . . . could not take more than a few bites . . . the cocoa bread is great tho
google avatar

Lea L.

Yelp
The best beef patties I ever had. The people are courtesy. The patties are just flavorful and consistent. Not too much pastry but a lot of meat. I remember when they were like $1.25, $1.50 now they are $3.50 each! The coco bread is freshly baked. You can smell the greatness when you walk in the store. They have other breads and buns as, well. Drinks are against the wall. Just thinking of this place makes me want to go buy a dozen to store at home.

Yelp
I had to visit the adjacent fabric store several times while helping my son with his Halloween costume. During our first visit to the area, I picked up some patties from my usual goto, Champion Bakery, which is down the street. That used to be a staple for my family, especially whenever we had functions. We would always get cocktail patties for parties and get togethers. I remember a friend telling me that Tropical was good but I hadn't had them in years. Champion has been falling off IMO because their patties are all dough and hardly any fill. Their cocktail patties have become dry as well. I decided to check out Tropical in a later visit. My kids also had the opportunity to try both and I have to say that from now on I will be getting my patties and coco bread from Tropical going forward. Their patties are spicy and FULL! They're not as flaky but I like their buttery crust and the coco bread is soooo good! It's soft and buttery in its own right as well. They also sell pre-packaged bun and cheese for $3.50 and the size is huge in comparison to their competitors down the road. I inquired as to whether they sell cocktail parties and they do, for $10/dozen. Welcome to the rotation...

Yelp
Absolutely love Kingston Tropical Bakery! If you're a fan of Jamaican patties and pastries, this place is an absolute must-visit. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with the aroma of freshly baked goods that will make your mouth water. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and they truly make you feel like family. The Jamaican patties here are out of this world! They're always freshly made with the perfect flaky crust and flavorful filling that will leave you wanting more. But that's not all - the pastries here are also amazing. The coco bread is a personal favorite of mine - it's soft, fluffy, and simply melts in your mouth. And don't even get me started on the sweet potato pudding! I will say, parking can be a bit of a challenge. It's definitely a two-person job, and you may want to consider parking a bit farther away and walking. But let me tell you, it's absolutely worth it. This place is cash only, so make sure you come prepared. But trust me, it's worth every penny. Overall, Kingston Tropical Bakery is a true Jamaican baking institution and a must-visit for anyone who loves Caribbean flavors. Don't miss out on the chance to try some of the best patties and pastries in the Bronx - you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I just don't understand the lines, rave reviews on this wack-pattie spot- ummm they have tons & I mean tons of competition- good Jamaican food & Pattie's all over the Bronx- definitely Brooklyn!! Smh- they are just ok- rude, nasty staff. Carrot cake was certainly dry & just ok. I will continue to wonder why this spot gets such rave reviews for average food at best & bad attitudes...
google avatar

Yelp
Came to try their beef and chicken patties. It was almost closing time. Patties were super hot! Great flavor and a LOT of filling inside. Great taste. Next time will try with coco bread next time.

Yelp
I happened to be on my way to the bronx, my wife remembered that this place was in her list spots for best jamaican patties. So we got a few patties, coco bread and a kola champagne and we snack while parked right outside in the corner. The bread was warm, out of the oven, there was a line out the door to get into the store, but i have to say the trip and the wait was definitely worth it. Highly recommend it, delicious freshly made patties, excellent option to go. Next time, i will be sure to get more patties, so we can bring them back home. Unfortunately, we ste everything in the car..lol.

Yelp
Kingston Bakery has the best patties in 4 out of 5 boroughs in NYC! Brooklyn is the exception! Delicious beef, and chicken patties! They have been in business about 40 years and they have never disappointed their customers. Always on point.
google avatar

Cam E.

Yelp
Excellent Jamaican beef patties sold here! They also bake chicken patties, vegetable patties, coco bread, bun and carrot cake. Kingston Bakery has the most authentic patties I have found outside of Jamaica. Irie! *Cash Only* *Take-out Only*

Donique S.

Yelp
I've been going to this patty shop for years. The coco bread is always fresh. It just tastes so darn good. The patties are awesome as well. This place never disappoints.

Yelp
Service is quick and friendly. They are cash only but no worries there is an atm inside. These are the best Pattie's I've ever had hands down!' If you come here, get a beef Pattie, meatloaf Pattie and a bun and cheese! Everything was good !

Yelp
The Best Jamaican beef patties on the planet. No body does it better. Been eating these for about 30yrs

Yelp
So delicious. I grew up on these. I'm just mad that they don't sell Gizzadas anymore.

Yelp
Being married to a Jamaican has its privileges!!! Although i am a NY'er THROUGH AND THROUGH, clearly i was slackin' cuz i NEVER heard of this spot until a few years ago when my husband casually was like, "yeah, i don't mess with patties from anywhere else but here." Mind blown cuz i was busy (sadly) eating Golden Crust patties since i was in High School. Spoiler Alert!!!:: Kingston Bakery must be using recipes from the Maroon Ancestors because LEMME TELL YOU - THE PATTIES HERE ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! There just ain't no competition. Big sorry to the other patty purveyors. The beef is SEASONED, and they must be working some magic in the dough cuz it's SOFT and FLAKY without being dense! Like, how??? And, i might add - their CoCo bread is the stuff that your softest most buttery dreams are made of!!! Meanwhile THAT'S NOT EVEN THE BEST PART. Their carrot cake had me ALL THEEE WAY IN MY BAG! What? Flavor - check. Just a hint of sweetness - check. No annoying carrot bits cuz they're nicely, well mixed in - check. Softness - check. Tastiness - checkity check! Like, you press on the loaf, and it just gives a long sigh before it raises up again. Clearly, my baked goods-loving fat azz is overwhelmed! Out of this universe, best carrot cake ever. i DARE someone to bring me a next carrot cake! I challenge anyone to go to Kingston bakery and not enjoy every bite of all the stuff they're churning out for the masses. Meanwhile, my other half is like "yeah so, when you finally visit Jamaica, it tastes even better there." WELL BOOK ME MY TICKET ASAP CUZ I BEEEEN WAITING TO ADD TO MY MUFFIN TOP, OKAY??? Can't recommend Kingston Bakery enough.
google avatar

Kay R.

Yelp
Delicious, I tell you - and all kinds of different patties! I have never seen such a large and unique variety anywhere else. Go in and experience the awesomeness. By the way, amongst other tasty pastries, try the meatloaf patty - it is to die for.
google avatar

Sherika H.

Yelp
Hands down the best Pattie's in the Bronx. Been going here ever since I could remember. All flavors are great. The buns are good as well. The line could get long depending on the day but it's so worth it. I literally do not eat patty from anywhere else.

Amir S.

Yelp
The place is small, the customers is just a rude a the staff. The staff lets anyone come and skip other customers who have been for service. And the food was cold.

Mr. F.

Yelp
Loves this place. Patties taste like the one back home. The Veggie patties are my favorite, love the bread so nice and soft. Staff is great and freindly. Place is small but that's ok with me and in and out. They have a refrigerator with juice. They cheese , Bun . All the nice things to consume. Makes my mouth water talk about it.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Best fresh baked hardough bread and cake. But the star is the beef patties and meatloaf(beef in coco bread).

Busy L.

Yelp
Excellent pies, coco bun and fruit bread. Everything was delicious and was first and won't be my last time here when I visit NY.
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
Extending my food network here a tad... If you find yourself out in the Bronx and need a quick bite, look no further than the wide array of Jamaican bakeries. I've never tried Jamaican patties before, but heard from many sources that I needed to try Kingston Tropical Bakery. Opened in 1970, this was the first bakery in the area to serve meat and veggie patties as well as coco bread, a soft roll with subtle sweetness that you can sandwich around the patties. As it was my first time, I tried both their chicken and beef patties, but when I return I'll be sure to get a dozen of their beef patties!
google avatar

Sears N.

Yelp
I go an hour and a half out of my way from Poughkeepsie for the meatloaf at this place. And I would pay three times what they are currently charging. My recommendation is that you get there early because they do sell out by mid afternoon usually. They have many other things that are also very good.
google avatar

Tracey S.

Yelp
This bakery has the best Jamaican patties in New York City hands down! You can get vegetable, chicken, beef and meatloaf patties here and the coco bread. The patties are flaky and delicious. I absolutely recommend this bakery.

Christan J.

Yelp
I'm born & raised in the Bronx & have had my share of patties. But NONE can compare to these!!! Hands down to this spot!! My favorite are the chicken!! My coworkers go crazy for the meatloaf patties. They are always so fresh which is even better. The area is not the greatest & the ambiance.. well there is none but it's ok bc it's not a sit down location. Get your delicious patties & coco bread & bounce!

Kerwin R.

Yelp
Hands down, this is the best beef patties ever! As a Bronx resident, I am fortunate to be able to take advantage of this delectable delight, and I most certainly do...
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
I not only take special trips all the way up to the boogie down Bronx (I live in SOUTH JERSEY) for these amazingly delicious patties but often it's a spur of the moment last minute I'm hungry for some authentic Jamaican style patties that we will hop in the car and away we go onto a road trip for the best patties I've ever had we order them by THEE DOZEN! When you go you must try there MEAT LOAF stuffed cocabread definitely my favorite I gotta look into if they ship patties that Bronx traffic is crazy still worth the trip go check em out you won't be disappointed

Joshua M.

Yelp
Best beef patties in the bronx worth waiting on the lines and coco bread always fresh

Honest O.

Yelp
I thought I left a review here already, but I didn't, so let's get to it. I was arguing that I found the best beef patty spot at another unamed place but my wife had to correct me. She told me about a spot in the BX, "da Bronx" for the uninitiated, that had the best patties. So I decided to see for myself. I went to this spot and ordered 5 beef patties, each with a Cocoa bread. We tasted it and ohhh my goodness... That was some amazing stuff. Meat was well seasoned, patty crust was just flaky enough, smelled great... let's not talk about the Cocoa break. It was soft, had a great aroma. The combination of the two was great, tasty, soft and downright satisifying.... This is a spot I have returned to multiple times. .. and will continue to do so.
google avatar

Alan D.

Yelp
I can't get enough the 3 different patties veggie, beef and chicken are delicious please note the patties are spicy hot and do not forget the coco bread if you are not sure what to do open the bread and place the patty inside oh! heaven, they have other products like carrot cake (yum) I have been going there for over 35 years and still going
google avatar

Miss B.

Yelp
Ordered an assortment of mini patties (chicken, beef and veggie) for a BBQ. On the day of pickup, my order was ready at 9:45am as requested. Patties were hot and ready to serve. Would definitely recommend them for appetizers.

Yelp
A recent search on Yelp, and I found Kingston Tropical Bakery. I decided that the next time I was in El Bronx, I would somehow, some way get patties from KTB. The opportunity arose and I searched for a menu, and found a singular one (pic). I discovered that they make Jamaican meatloaf, which is hard to find and better than a patty any day, in my opinion. Meatloaf is basically a beef patty baked into coco bread without the yellow/orange "kruss." My boo had business in the vicinity and picked beef, chicken and meatloaf for us. He never had a meatloaf before and has now become a fan. It's not just about the meatloaf, all of the fillings were well seasoned and a little spicy (my opinion @ "a little" LOL) as they should be. But more than ANYTHING, the patties had a great amount of meat, by NYC standards. Once upon a time, you couldn't keep the meat in your patties because they were filled. To my disappointment, in Brooklyn you get more kruss than meat. So despite the distance, Kingston Tropical Bakery is the best right now in NYC for me. The only other patties that I had that were exceptionally good were actually in Jamaica and in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Teresa M.

Yelp
Best beef patties in the Bronx. The crust is light and thin and the meat taste like beef

Napoleon M.

Yelp
I had the meatloaf patty and beef patty with coco bread, both were delicious! Got bread pudding too
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Best coco bread & patties hands down recommend buying fresh in the morning. Perfect spice and flavor.
google avatar

Shoshana R.

Yelp
Like with anything we all have our favorites for different specialties. KTB is my go to West Indian neighborhood bakery when I'm in the area. An old school bakery that has been a neighborhood fixture for decades, many people sing their praises. With a simple menu KTB is where you go for good Jamaican staples (ie: patties, hard-dough bread, fruit buns and cakes) My order is consistently a Chicken Patty, Coco Bread and a slice of Carrot Cake. Always fresh and the perfect meal and sweet treat on the go for less then five bucks. I always receive good food and prompt service. Full disclosure I have a go to spot in the south bronx for Coco Bread, it just brings me back to my childhood, but I enjoy KTB's also. I also really enjoy their Carrot Cake (a middle piece please) it's always moist with the right amount of sweetness. Large enough for more then one serving and they always oblige me by giving me the piece I want right in the middle. Bottom line you can not go wrong and their popularity is solidified by the product they produce and the different press and write-ups they have deservingly received. Just A Note: They are located on a corner on the very active White Plains Rd., with many people running in and out grabbing a quick meal. Think twice about double parking, while the patties are good you will be highly upset if you got a ticket for one.
google avatar

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
I have been going to them for a while They have the best Beef and other different types of Patties on White plains road
google avatar

Nova R.

Yelp
The best fresh Patties ever!! You better get there early if you want the carrot cake !! Great staff

Ann Marie P.

Yelp
The food was spicy but good. The place is small but counter person very was rude and began taking another order while taking mine making him miss one of my items. Btw, it was not crowded at all. It is worthy to note I do not live far from the location. The female counter person who was responsible for handling the money did not provide me with my change before she asked me for the original amount for another item hard dough bread I decided to purchase. I had to remind her I have change left from my original items. I had to remind her I had change left from what I previously ordered. I looked at her like I wonder how many people this has happened to. I want to remind everyone this is a cash only business so,I would count my change. A word to the wise.

Yelp
Good authentic beef Pattie's in the Bronx. The place had a line and a bunch of double park cars out front so we knew it was going to be good. We tried the beef, chicken & meatloaf patty. All three were good. They had a bunk of bread options and Jamaican sodas & juices. They ONLY accept CASH.
google avatar
