A focused temaki spot near midtown, highlighted by The Sacramento Bee for introducing a hand‑roll–centric format to the city. Crisp nori, warm rice, and fillings like spicy tuna, scallop, or toro make for fast, precise bites.

Wonderful hand roll bar! One of the best sushi places in town! We enjoyed our food every time we ate there. Their drinks, specially their oyster shooter are also great! The fish is always fresh and the seaweeds are crispy enough! It is a wonderful experience so definitely try it!

Very nice place. It is small so it's not good for a large party. We sat at the bar and watched them make the rolls. The concept is like Sugarfish. You can order all at once or add to your order. They will serve you your had one one at a time so that the seaweed stays fresh. The chef was nice enough to cut the hand roll in half because we ordered a bunch of different ones to share. We didn't try any of the hot dishes but saw someone eat the pork belly fries and it looked good. We shared the 3 rolls (spicy tuna, yellowtail, and salmon) and tried most of the specials but our favorites were the zig zag hand roll, salmon skin, and taco trio. The ones with jalapeños are spicy so if you dont like spice don't get it. I personally like the albacore and the spice level. Everything was fresh and sushi chef was very attentive to us though I can see it getting really busy. They did use some sauces on some of the rolls so it would get soggy on some parts. But again it's freshly made so not a huge problem. Another difference compared to Sugarfish is the seaweed isn't as crunchy. So when you take a bite, you do have to cut with your teeth. So that was nice of the chef to cut it in half for us; otherwise I can see it being messy. They are not big hand rolls so I would say about 5 to 6 rolls each and a hot plate to share would be good. Each roll is about 7 to 10 dollars so this place isnt cheap. But I would definitely be back.

Great karaage. I didn't know the gyoza would be deep fried, but the filling was tasty. Friendly staff. The patio looks so cool. Nice weather on a Friday night, so I asked to sit outside. Since it wasn't open, and staff dragged their feet saying it's not open now but they could open it if we really wanted to, I politely backed down. Same exact scenario with another customer 20 minutes later. I wonder how many times a night that happens. I ordered a yuzu lager (12 oz. Hitachino) and was served a yuzu white ale (16 oz. Onibi). The can arrived already open. I'm sure they want customers to correct them, but I prefer not to be wasteful even if they get the order wrong. Finally, from sitting at the bar I saw one chef rest his kitchen towel on the prep surface, moving it and wiping down. This wet towel with fish and seafood touched my partner's raw radish garnish. I made sure we didn't eat that (normally would) for fear of cross contamination. Hand rolls were okay. One seaweed was properly grilled and easy to bite through, but the other remained raw and rubbery. Scallops had an extra fishy flavor. Unagi was good. I did like the overall ambience.

Google
A great hidden spot in Sacramento! This place stands out for their great hand rolls which are all well crafted so the fish and seafood shine through while complimented by the other components of the roll. I loved trying the different specialty and regular rolls they were all so good. You can taste how high quality every ingredient is. Service is great and they answer any question you may have about the menu. I would definitely come back!

Google
Very cool spot and area. The hand rolls were amazing and definitely will hot the spot if you are craving hand rolls. Got the spicy tuna, blue fin, crab, and salad. All were amazing and on point 10/10. The service was amazing and inside was immaculate and clean. Definitely recommended for anyone craving a hand roll, plenty of options.

Google
Super fresh and delicious food! They have a regular menu and a seasonal menu. The staff is very friendly and have a lot of experience. Definitely recommend the tamago yaki unagi hand roll and definitely recommend sitting at the bar to watch the chefs work! One chef also recommended either coming in early or late to avoid the crowd. We came around 5:30 and there was one other patron

I am visiting Sacramento for a work trip from Seattle. I found this place on Google maps and could not have been happier with my decision. I started with miso soup and then got 5 hand rolls: bluefin, spicy tuna, creamy scallop, shrimp tempura, and yellowtail. I sat at the bar and watched the guy toast each piece of seaweed and make each individual roll. Absolutely delicious!!

Google
Honestly I was going to give four star until I opened the chicken teriyaki to go, it was plain, no sauce or favors at all. When we dine in, five star for her excellent customer service, she was really nice and friendly. But for the food was three stars. Pork belly fries is a little bit too salty, salmon and albacore and spicy tuna hand roll was normal, creamy scallops was good and so as the uni, uni was fresh, no wired taste. Salmon bowl was good. Won’t recommend this location but if you want to try it it’s okay.

Yelp
A delicious and fresh hand roll spot near downtown Sacramento! Came here for the first time on a casual Wednesday - so the restaurant wasn't terribly busy. We were seated right away and given some menus. I will say, there isn't a crazy amount of variety on the menu - so if you come here, you come here for the hand rolls. But what a great reason to come! The rolls are a bit pricy but the fish in them are SO fresh and delicious. There are a few bundle options that ease the price a little bit, but keep in mind there are no substitutions. We had also ordered some other things to supplement our hand rolls- takoyaki and the pork belly fries. Both were SO good. The takoyaki balls were quite large and had nice crunch on the outside with soft tako and filling on the inside. In other words, everything I would ever want in a takoyaki. The sauce on the pork belly fries was simply perfect and the pork belly itself was crispy. My only complaint is that the restaurant is so small that sounds and conversations from other tables are easy to hear and it can get a little noisy. Not the restaurant's fault, but at the time of my dining, there was one table that was particularly loud and their noise filled the whole restaurant. There were many times where it felt like I really needed to raise my voice to talk to the people at my table or I had to ask them to repeat what they said.

Yelp
So good! The Lion King Salmon hand roll is my absolute favorite, I hope it makes it into the regular menu. I tried the hamachi kama and it was fantastic, a huge portion too. My partner enjoyed the pork belly ramen.

Yelp
i got their 5 hand roll special. I loved the toro. the restaurant is small so it's an intimate experience with the chefs When I went there was 2 parties. Service is great. I like that this place waits until you're ready to eat your next roll so the seaweed doesn't go soggy.

Yelp
Tiny but Mighty [Sacramento CA] My daughter introduced me to this restaurant located in Midtown Sac. Small and cozy inside with table and bar seating. We were greeted immediately and led to a table. The menus handed to us had a separate menu for bento lunch box option (M-F)... we came on a Saturday, then we were told that they now serve them every day. Daughter ordered the 3 Hand Roll set which came with Spicy Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. She struggled a little bit eating the yellowtail because the shiso leaf at the bottom made it a little difficult to bite. I chose one of the bento boxes -- Salmon Teriyaki. The bento box was cute and perfect serving for me. Literally cute which included gyoza. Everything was good and delicious! So glad to try out this place. Customer service was great and our waitress was very friendly. Street parking only. Review #3725

Yelp
If you come here expect: fresh fish, wonderfully chosen flavor combinations, time taken to craft the hand rolls, and a cozy dining experience. The inside doesn't have too much seating, with some tables and a bar option. If you sit at the bar you can watch them make the hand rolls. They do take a lot of time and care to make their hand rolls, so do expect a bit of a wait before getting your food. Once the food comes, I think worth the wait. They have different pre-set options for hand roll combos, but I wanted to try their taco trio. I loved all the fish and how fresh they tasted, and all the flavors they crammed into the taco shell. I also got the pork belly fries, which (I think due to the sauce) are somewhat reminiscent of takoyaki but with pork belly. They do get pretty crowded, so be ready for a wait!

Yelp
Nothing can replace an institution like Harry's Cafe, but Kinjo is a worthy replacement for the space that once used to serve breakfast favorites. I wasn't aware that a Hand Roll Bar had arrived in Sacramento, but I'm glad we have one now and I'm glad it's Kinjo. The service was impeccable and the food was nothing short of extraordinary. The fish was fresh and the portions were generous. A few of my favorites are described below in more detail. A Spicy Tuna Handroll is the litmus test for me when I find myself in a handroll bar and Kinjo's confirmed that this place is special. It had the right amount of kick and a creamy like texture. I had mine with a soy wrap The Ocean Spring Roll had a wonderful touch of mint that gave the roll a nice herbaceous pop. The most refreshing roll of the night. The Pepperfin melted in my mouth. I haven't encountered such thick cuts before, but the texture was so smooth and soft. The Toro had me smiling as I sipped my ice cold Sapporo. Expertly cut and served with daikon and pickled wasabi. The wasabi packed a punch. I preferred the toro without the daikon and wasabi. The Toro was similar to the pepperfin. I wondered if I had to bite it at all or it would just melt in my mouth since it was so buttery. It was rich and buttery and I would order it again. I miss Harry's Cafe, but I'm happy to report its space has a worthy successor. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Wandered into this hole in the wall in downtown Sacramento while having a craving for something light. I ordered their negitoro, snow crab, scallop, salmon, and the kicker, A5 wagyu hand rolls. The negitoro is finely chopped, subtly seasoned, I was expecting more of a churtoro or otoro for this price but it was still a premium hand roll. The snow crab brings a light, sweet touch, really highlighting the quality you want from snow crab. The scallop hand roll is a winner, fresh with that rich, buttery texture that just dissolves in your mouth. The salmon was also buttery and zesty, refreshing in some way. And that A5 wagyu? It's decadent, a serious indulgence. Now, the price point is a bit steep, especially when the fish could be a bit more top-shelf. But honestly, the overall experience holds up, and I'm dropping a solid 4 out of 5 on this place. If you're in Sacramento, definitely swing by Kinjo. It's the kind of spot where you can enjoy some finger foods and good beer during a quick lunch break.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this absolute GEM in December. Cute little space with a sushi bar and a few tables. Definitely want to sit at the bar next time because it looks fun Food was absolutely amazing I had oyster shooters here for the first time and they're now my favorite thing. Service was amazing and she was very helpful in explaining how to properly take an oyster shooter. It's right across from the winery location me and my friend were at and definitely will be back soon

Yelp
Kinjo Hand Roll Bar has been on my list to try since they opened. For some reason I'm not in this area a lot, maybe it's the one hour parking or maybe I just need that extra push. There are so many great businesses over here. I lucked into one of the few two-hour parking spots and met with a friend to check out a few of the nearby spots. We stopped into Kinjo Hand Roll Bar around 5:30ish and the staff greeted us right away. It's pretty small, but has a great vibe. We sat at the bar and had the opportunity to see the chefs make all the rolls. We each ordered two hand rolls. We each ordered a creamy scallop hand roll ($7.50 each), I got an unagi hand roll ($7.50) and my friend got a spicy tuna hand roll ($7). They made one at a time for each of us so that the nori stayed crunchy and they were rolled into tubes versus cones so that the protein was evenly spread throughout. The creamy scallop hand roll was tasty and even with the chili garlic it wasn't spicy- just flavorful. The unagi hand roll was savory and sweet and nice and warm. We were stopping at a few different restaurants, otherwise we would have ordered more and maybe tried some of the small plates. I also saw a sign for lunch bento boxes which sound great too. This spot is probably best for dates, small groups, a solo meal or quick take out. I could see it filling up quickly. We had a great time sitting at the bar and I could see myself easily hanging out for a couple hours, enjoying rolls and drinks.

Yelp
We stopped in here for a Friday evening meal and were the first in the door. The sushi chef/server for us was super friendly and explained the process right away. I'm sure it'll change in the future, but locating the place is a little confusing with the awning having a different business name than what's inside - hopefully they'll get worked out soon. We tried a few hand rolls and ordered a couple more. We had the gyoza as well. Everything was good, but nothing truly outstanding and memorable in my opinion. I'd also recommend the business invest in some cheap wine glasses, it's kind of weird drinking a white wine out of a pint glass. Otherwise, I'd check the place out again if I was in the area.

Yelp
I loved my experience at the Kinjo Hand Roll Bar! Everything on the menu sounded incredibly delicious, but I went with the creamy scallop and spicy tuna. The creamy scallop was definitely my favorite of the two. Although, both tasted very fresh and flavorful. We were able to sit at the bar and watch the chefs make the rolls in front of us which was pretty cool! It's a small spot but very nicely curated and amazing staff. We went on a Wednesday night, so the service was fast. I am looking forward to visiting again!

But my favorite is "Zig Zag" (soft shell crab) Bomb!! Ambience: Hole in the wall-clean & a fun dive in restaurant. ---we will always comeback Everyone should give Kinjo a try! I promise you it's yummy!

Yelp
Came here with my sister and my brother in law to grab some grub before a late night show so here we are. We came around 7pm and waited until we were seated. There was only one table available as the bar was full and every other table was occupied. I ordered the 3 premium handrolls (Uni ikura, bluefin toro, and A5 wagyu.) I also ordered the spicy tuna and creamy scallop hand-roll. The food here was okay. It wasn't bad but it also didn't really grab my attention. The service here was also lackluster. Our server was very detached hardly ever seen. She gave us waters once and never came back to refill them. It seemed like she only cared towards the end when she was giving us the check. Maybe you the fellow Yelp reader will have a better experience than we did. Try it out if you like. :(

Yelp
This is a tiny place next to a floral shop. I walked in with my brother and husband and felt super awkward just waiting to be seated. We were just standing waiting to be acknowledged. There was one table available but we didn't want to just assume we could sit there. It was loud when we walked in and the sushi counter was full. We were seated at a table and given ice water. There was nothing on the menu that stood out to me besides the 3 premium handrolls (wagyu, toro, uni). The toro and uni tasted fresh but it was kind of salty. the wagyu was just ok. I think this place has potential but it's the service that needs major improvement. The waitress just seemed detached or disengaged. She was not attentive, friendly and didn't even refill our water once. I feel like she didn't really start talking to us until we had the check. My brother and I were still hungry but we didn't order more because we thought it would take too long and I didn't really think they deserved my money to be honest.

Yelp
WOW. Try this place! This tiny little restaurant seats a small amount of customers but offer amazing hand rolls. I don't usually like handrolls because I feel like they fall apart. It is a personal lack of experience, i'm sure. My son has been here several times and he did the honor of ordering most of the dishes. The Kobe roll was AMAZING. We ended up having a couple each.

Yelp
Small restaurant with great food and super friendly staff. Jimmy was the chef preparing my hand rolls and he was awesome. The fish is fresh and there were some pretty stellar handrolls - my favorite in particular being the ocean fresh handroll! One of the best flavor combos I've had in a handroll....hands down! Haha the bluefin tuna was also excellent. I also feel their prices are pretty fairly set. The only reason I give Kinjo 4 stars is because their seaweed isn't quite on par with other handroll restaurants I've been too. It lacks the same level of toasted flavor and even though it is served fresh, it doesn't have that same crisp clean break. I suspect they are just using normal sushi nori. If they upgrade to some premium nori - they would be knock out!

Yelp
Kinjo is a great option when you want something quick but still delicious. It's a hand roll bar, so you can pop in for lunch or dinner and get a solid meal in no time. The fish is always fresh and the staff are friendly, which makes it a go-to for sushi cravings when you don't have time to linger.

Yelp
Second time here and it never disappoints. Food: 5 We all ordered hand-rolls. I ordered the scallop, uni and snow crab. What I like about their hand-rolls is that they all have a unique taste to them. Each hand-roll tasted different. The uni hand-roll had a kick to it but was still very good. It also had a crunch to it because of the leaf inside. You can tell the ingredients were fresh. The uni was sweet and creamy. The sweet shrimp comes in two ways. The head is deep fried and brought out first. The body of the shrimp is served later. The snow crab was sweet and had no seafood odor to it. The sauce in the snow crab wasn't overly sauced. We also got the salmon collar. I am not usually a fan of salmon collar but this was perfectly cooked. It didn't have your typical salt on it. There's another seasoning that was sprinkled on the collar. The collar was nice and juicy and not dry. Service: 5 We sat outside and were never forgotten. Our waitress came by and checked up on us multiple times to make sure we had any questions. She was fast on taking our orders and the food came out in a timely manner. Ambiance : 5 Place is a little small but it reminded me of the small restaurants you would encounter in the alleys of Tokyo. It was warm and welcoming and everyone was attentive without being over bearing

Yelp
Thursday afternoon lunch. Two of looking to try something new. We both ordered the 3 roll combos. The rolls were super tasty and flavorful. In the end we each had 4 hand rolls and the bill came to $70 (before tip). The staff were friendly and the place was nice. In the end it comes down to value, and for me it wasn't there. And worst of all leaving hungry. It was very good. It just wasn't much.

Yelp
Been wanting to try out Kinjo since it opened.. it did not disappoint! I love hand rolls and they're the most underrated form of sushi in the US. Hand rolls I tried include Salmon: A Spicy Tuna: A- Crab: B+ Salmon was my favorite out of the three. The crab was interesting since they added apple to it for sweetness and crunch. Unagi don: A I also got their unagi don since it looked amazing in photos. In terms of how it tasted, it tasted as good as it looks! The sauce was perfectly sweet and the pickled radish they gave was delicious too. Pricey for kind of small servings but quality sushi and Japanese food isn't cheap. This is a fun restaurant if you're looking to try things and spend $30-$50 per person.

Yelp
The food was good and the service great as well. We ate outside because inside feels a little loud.

Yelp
A SINGULAR EXPERICENCE! If you want a unique food experience, you will love this place. All the handrools were great (the creamy scallop and the wagu were my favs), but this place is not just handrools. Their pepper fin, oysters, and pork belly fries are also excellent! It's a great place to start a night out, especially since Tomato Alley and R Street are next door!

Yelp
Come here and eat now! Ate a late lunch with my friends and was wowed super good food! The ambience is cool and fun. If you are long time sacrificing residents you might remember this place as Harry's cafe - Kinjo has taken over and I am so glad I am here. My fave is the pork belly and salmon skin hand roll! My kids love hand rolls and I will bring them soon eat here you will be happy! Service is the best! Seriously friendly and knowledgeable on their fish!

Yelp
Finally got to try this place after seeing it on social media. Walked in and the restaurant is smaller than I expected but still enough seating to accommodate a bit of people. They also have bar seating so you can watch the chefs make the food. There was a couple sitting at the bar when we went and the staff seemed to be very friendly with them. Ordered the salmon skin HR (7/10), salmon HR (7/10), Albacore HR (8/10), and Geso (10/10). We originally went to try the uni but unfortunately they didn't have it that day. The staff said they usually always have it but just happen to not that day. Overall, I will be going back to try all of the food!

Yelp
We showed up as a group of 5 on Sunday at opening so thankfully parking was super easy! Overall, the food is decent, service was great, but the price gets pretty steep if you're hungry. The handrolls overall were just ok. I would say they're a 3/5 because you can't taste much of the fish and there wasn't much in them. It was mostly rice. If you do come, I've heard that sitting at the bar is better because they hand you the food as soon as it's prepared so the seaweed wrapper stays crisp. For most of ours since we ordered a lot, the seaweed was hard to bite through. I enjoyed most of the apps! 5/5 The seaweed salad - flavorful and crisp 3/5 Garlic edamame - perfectly flavored, it wasn't too spicy, but it was soggy and limp 4/5 Pork belly fries - I loved the shoestring fries and the sauce on top but the pork belly was all cubed fat so we didn't eat the majority of it. There may have been 3-4 pieces of actual meat cubes 5/5 shrimp tempura - I loved the shrimp tempura. It was crispy and fried well but for the price, I would've expected more than 4 pieces We paid essentially as much as we would've going to AYCE sushi but we weren't necessarily full here. If you eat light, it's a good place to check out. If you're a strong eater, I'd recommend checking out it's sushi in Roseville -- the quality of the food there is great and you can eat a lot of fish if that's what you're into!

Yelp
Visited in August 2024. This is a nice little hole in the wall place in midtown for hand rolls! The fish was fresh and the flavors were great. Highly recommend if you're craving sushi or japanese food. The pork belly fries were also amazing! Crispy fries with a good amount of pork belly. The prices are a little high though. Would like to see larger portions to match the prices or some nice happy hour deals.

Yelp
I'm so happy Kinjo opened up here in Sac. I know there are sushi restaurants around that have hand rolls on the menu, but I just think it's cool that we now have a restaurant specifically specializing just in hand rolls, and boy are they some good hand rolls :D Off their specials menu I got the amaebi hand roll & pork belly hand roll. Off the regular menu I got the hamachi hand roll and A5 wagyu hand roll. Amaebi hand roll (7.8/10) - I enjoyed this one because before bringing out the actual hand roll they bring you the head, deep-fried and with a dipping sauce. I know it's not for everyone, but for me, the head is the best part. Ate that entire thing up lol. Flavor-wise I actually liked it better than the actual hand roll, although the hand roll was still solid. Pork belly hand roll (8/10) - I love pork belly ANYTHING lolol. Pork belly in a hand roll tho?! This hand roll was yummyyyyy. Aside from the pork belly and rice, I know there was something else in there's, I just don't remember what else, but yeah dude this one was yummmmmmo. Hamachi hand roll (9/10) - this hand roll is off the regular menu and I think it's my most favorite one lol. Aside from delicious hamachi, it's got fried leeks, some kinda creamy sauce, and it's just a flavor bomb explosion in your mouth. I could quite literally eat this all mf'n day if my tummy would allow it lol. A5 Wagyu hand roll (10/10) - it's A5 wagyu! Talk about the melt in your mouth, delectable, umami, beefy, tantalizing, fatty goodness that is Wagyu lol. Service was awesome. They're very nice and they're very attentive. But It's a small spot, not much seating so it's very intimate, which allows them more time to be able to be as attentive, which I really like.

Yelp
I only ordered to go, which I usually do not do because I like my sushi fresh but it was a cold night in Sacramento. It's a small place and seems most patrons sit at the sushi bar, which I probably would want to do if I dined in. The items that I got were fresh. I got the hamachi sashimi and toro hand roll. I thought the toro would've been leftover smashed negitoro but it was diced and tasted so much better than negitoro. I wish I ordered more!

Yelp
First time trying Kinjo and we were underwhelmed. We ordered the 3&4 hand roll sets, spicy garlic edamame, and pork belly fries. Hand Rolls: A lot smaller than what we typically get from other sushi or hand roll restaurants. It looked and felt "bite sized" as there was not much rice or fish in general. There was really nothing special about the hand rolls themselves. The only one that stood out was the yellowtail one but it was still nothing crazy and nothing we would return for. Service: Two sushi chefs and one hostess/waiter + chefs in the back I aWe requested to be sat at the bar and the hostess/waiter just had us follow her and put our menus down and that was about it. Never really greeted us or anything. She just had our menus in one pile and put it on the bar and we kind of just sat wherever. Sitting in front of the sushi chefs, we typically have conversations or something with the chefs but the chefs here were very quiet. They did not make any conversation at all, it was a very awkward experience. Overall, if we wanted to enjoy a hand roll bar, 10/10 would recommended Hello Temaki in Elk Grove. It's more bang for your buck and you'll get the homey and welcoming vibe you would typically get from a sushi restaurant.

Yelp
I was seated right away but the 2 servers they had were not very attentive. The service just seemed a little off. The crab croquette didn't have any crab inside that I could taste. It was just all soupy inside. Flavor was okay. Outside was crispy. The sauce that came with it was gross. It was not edible at all. I ended up dipping it in regular soy sauce. I got 5 different handrolls: Crab, Salmon, Yellowtail, Bluefin Toro, and Unagi. All of them didn't have a lot of flavor. Crab was good but they don't use Dungeness or fresh blue crab. It's the pinkish canned crab you buy at the market Salmon and Yellowtail were okay. Bluefin toro costs more but couldn't really tell the difference. Unagi was good but kind of dry. Overall, I was a little disappointed considering all the good reviews.

Yelp
One of my favorite hand roll bars in Sacramento! The servers are always friendly and they do a good job at addressing any of your concerns. I'm obsessed with scallops so I always get the scallop hand rolls here and if you can, try the wagyu hand roll too. The ambiance of this place makes it perfect for a casual night out. Definitely ask for the Chef's Special when you're at the bar and it's not busy!

Yelp
If there's room when you go, I really recommend the bar. Our group didn't have enough space and had to get a table, but as we were waiting, I noticed that the chefs are the bar were super outgoing and were really creating a great atmosphere with the customers at the bar. If you're more of an introvert, I recommend sitting at one of the tables instead. If you come without much idea of what to get, a safe option would be their 5 rolls set as it comes with 4 of the regular handrolls and one of the specialty rolls. I had an idea of which one I would like so I ordered individually. Spicy Tuna - Great spice, very creamy Scallop - Zesty from the lemon and creamy Creamy Scallop - My favorite out of the regular rolls, the chili flakes added a nice crunch and spice to it and the sauces were flavorful A5 Wagyu - Worth the splurge. Best to order when sitting at the bar as they would torch it in front of you. The wagyu pretty much melts in your mouth and was delicious Uni Ikura - I actually just had a small bite of my friend's because I'm not a fan of uni because they're usually too salty for me. This was a mistake as it was so good I wish I ordered my own. Because they cooked it, it's not salty, but actually very creamy and light in flavor. Also very tender to eat, I highly recommend if you haven't had uni that you liked before. This changes my opinion on uni completely Pork Belly Fries - A great appetizer for the group. There's a generous portion and it's great to get if you're coming with a group. One plate was enough for 6 of us Karaage - Tastes great with the sauce and is very crunchy Overall if you're a first timer with handrolls, I recommend trying a few, either individually or the set menus. If you're used to getting handrolls, I recommend skipping their normal rolls because I feel the flavors aren't as strong as I'm used to and there might be too much rice, but this could be a plus if you like the natural flavor of the fish they use. Instead, get their specialty rolls, those are really worth it. Small plates are also recommended if you're going in a group with inexperienced or picky eaters, but if you're a foodie, you might enjoy just the main parts with the handrolls so you don't get too full to enjoy it.

Yelp
I visited Kinjo Hand Roll Bar on Wednesday, 1/17/24, during lunchtime. I decided to order one of the hand-roll sets. It was the 4 hand rolls that came with Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, and Scallops. The quality of the fish was great and each roll was good in taste. It was definitely a nice, light meal for lunch. The inside of the restaurant was decorated very nicely. The staff members were sweet, kind, and attentive. I was not disappointed in this visit whatsoever. I recommend coming here.

Yelp
Probably the most underrated Japanese spot in Sacramento.. the vibe, the freshness of the fish, the chefs, the music, the quality, I could go on. There's a humility paired with authenticity at Kinjo that is hard to come by these days. Go and enjoy - 100% worth it and then some.

Yelp
Seriously the best most inventive hand rolls we've ever had. Service was amazing as well. Their fish is super fresh and the rolls are such great bites. We will be back over and over.

Yelp
Decided to try this place around lunch time ~1PM and we were the only ones that was seated at a table. Decided to order between the two of us, pork belly fries to share, and 3-4 hand rolls for each of us. The hand rolls averaged ~$7 each, give or take for scallops and other fishes. The food tasted delicious! I really enjoyed my salmon and salmon skin HRs. The seaweed was crisp and the protein was fresh. The pork belly fries was SO good! The fries were crispy and I just think the unagi/mayo combo + pork belly is a win win. The restaurant seating area itself is very tiny...so I'm not sure if it ever gets packed, with a long wait. There is also a bar area. Overall, I'm so glad we tried the place. We will definitely come back. The prices are reasonable and I hope they get more customers!

Yelp
Quality fish and delicious hand rolls ! I ordered the 3 hand rolls and the yellow tail was amazing! My husband and I also shared some fries and they were tasty as well! Please note this is not your regular sushi place! Junji specializes in hand rolls and any place that specializes this is obviously going to be pricey because you're paying for quality! Also be sure to check the hours before you go! They open for lunch and then close for a bit until dinner hours.

Yelp
I really wanted to try this place...small sushi place with selective seafood quality. The sashimi quality was amazing...nothing to complain about. I loved yellowtail. Wagyu melted in my mouth but the portion was such a tease. The big let down was seaweed used for hand rolls. By the time they serves us, the seaweed was not crisp, already soggy and very hard to chew off. I recommend sittinf at the bar, order one by one. Geso appt was really good and they even have macaron boba sandwich ice cream...Cannot go wrong with that!

Yelp
Sat at the bar on a Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed the hand-rolls. Toro, uni and scallop were my favorite. I love their technique of torching the nori before they roll the fish so that it's crisp, not soggy. Great balance of salt and flavor, which can also be individually modified to your palate. Easy menu, simple but quality ingredients and a very unique take on hand-rolls that are so good, you don't even need extra shoyu. We also tried the hamachi kama which was on special & well done. Very friendly and attentive staff. We even took some rolls to- go and the packaging was top tier... they even explained and showed us how to make the rolls at home! Small space and limited seating so recommend resy's if you can plan ahead.

Yelp
Damn! These hand rolls were so good. We got there for lunch and it was full (pretty small place), but they were so kind to set up tables outside for us for a group of 10. I ordered mostly premium hand rolls (uni, A5 wagyu, and bluefin toro) plus the yellow tail hamachi. I have to say all four were fantastic. The toppings they added to the hand rolls were amazing. Some had the perilla leaf and sea salt which paired really well with the hand rolls. The karage was pretty good too. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Fries were crunchy with pork belly on top and pork belly anything is always good lol. Anyways, great hand rolls here. They also serve alcohol and have a special menu that is also online, but also posted inside the restaurant so don't forget to check out the special menu (has ramen and other things). Will definitely come back. Fish was very fresh.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place since it opened and finally, this is the day! I was super excited! We ordered the 4 set roll, hamachi Kama, fries with bellies, unagi don and a uni/ikura roll. Food came pretty fast except my uni/ikura/shiso roll. Food from kitchen were hot and pretty good. I enjoyed the hamachi Kama while my husband said it was fishy. He likes the fries with belly. The rolls were mediocre, hard to eat (the filling was falling apart) while the nori was getting soggy. I was advised to eat them within 5 mins but still.. it was soggy when it arrived. The fishes was fresh, but was kind of plain.. it was just the fish and the rice, except the tuna has a gochujang sauce with cucumber. The uni ikura and shiso leaf roll was different. Tasted the sweetness of the uni and the super saltiness of the ikura along the shiso's strong taste.... All tasted a little weird together... it would have been good if it just uni roll. Overall, the place and service was ok to try. I like the concept. Definitely, they can improve their service if they can hire one more person because the waitress was super busy to fill up our water or even deliver my uni roll ( was delivered after we almost finished everything, when I already forgotten about it and being full) Recommend to try it but we don't know if we coming back if we are in the area

Yelp
Visited for a quick lunch with boyfie on a Saturday afternoon. There wasn't much a wait which was nice but we found the space super small and cramped. We ordered the 5 handroll special ($35) and the pork belly fires ($9). The 5 rolls were spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, scallop and then bluefin toro. The fish was fresh but we found the flavors to be pretty redundant and weren't blown away. The pork belly fries weren't anything special and I found the sauce to be too sweet. Worth a try but I don't think we'll be back.

Yelp
Been here twice and really enjoyed eating here. It's an intimate small great sushi joint - kind of nondescript on the outside. Their specialty is sushi handroll. I've gotten the albacore, creamy scallop, crab roll, scallops. The presentations are wonderful, and the seafood fresh. It's hard to pick a favorite but my go to is the albacore, it just melts in my mouth and the garlic cream was just an amazing combo. Would definitely sit at the bar so you can watch the sushi chef make the rolls! Price was reasonable given the quality of the food ($6-7 /roll). We also got the donburi to help fill us up. The chef and service was nice. They do not have their alcohol license yet but they do allow you to bring beer from the neighbor bar. There's street parking available. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place. Finally made it, ordered the 5 hand rolls and thought it would be displayed open face on the cute wooden holder for a pretty photo but it came all rolled up on a plate. The rolls were not bad, but not impressionable to be wowed! The scallop roll was refreshing with the lemon in it. There were two rolls where I felt had too much salt in it so that was unexpected otherwise, I'd ask for no salt. The pork belly fries was too saucy for me. I'm also not a teriyaki sauce gal so it was on the sweet side for me. The place is small, service was good and parking can be difficult. Overall, give this place a try, it might suit your palate. We probably won't return as there are many sushi options to chose from but glad we gave them a try.

Yelp
My friend and I came in right at opening on Tuesday evening. The gal that served us was really nice and attentive. I went with the 3 hand rolls and my friend did that 5 hand rolls. We also added the pork belly fries. The fries were okay. I wish they were crispier and the sauces were far too sweet. It's one of those dishes you get tired of eating after 10 bites. There's not much flavor other than sweet and there was A LOT of sauce. I will say the portion is generous and the pork belly was nice and caramelized. Hand rolls were good but nothing special in my opinion. I think the fish could've used more seasoning. I ended up asking for soy sauce and wasabi because it was a bit bland. I did order an extra hand roll, their special was salmon skin and I knew this would give me the texture I was craving. It was the best item I ate! The texture of the salmon skin was beyond crispy. I really enjoyed it. The prices are very reasonable for hand rolls, but the portion of fish is a little lacking. I'm not sure if I'd come back, maybe if they expand their menu a bit more?

Yelp
My spouse and I picked this place as dedicated Japanese food lovers, looking for something slightly different than the usual fare. Kinjo has a small but comfy interior and appeared to be hosting many locals who love the place at their friendly bar counter top. They specialize a bit more in the temaki (hand roll) over other specialty rolls, so we gave it a shot. My fam and I sat at a table, and tried many many hand rolls. More than we planned to originally! We started with karaage chicken for appetizers, raw oysters and the basic 3 hand roll combo (salmon, hamachi, spicy tuna). But after appreciating each, we were sold on trying many of their specials like uni ikura (sea urchin plus salmon roe), zigzag (soft shell crab), the lobster uni caviar roll, and .. had to try.. the A5 Wagyu hand roll. We stuffed ourselves pretty well, and were happy campers as we strolled out. We walked a good 1.5 miles to have dinner there from our hotel, but we rolled back in an Uber, solidly pleased and ready for a nap. Fantastic and well worth a try. Sac in itself has its oddities and sometimes not so safe areas, it seems. But this was a great gem, off the more familiar areas of R Street and Old Town, that nonlocals sometimes visit. Enjoy!

Yelp
Here are my ratings for each roll I ordered: scallop (3/5), creamy scallop (4/5), spicy tuna (2/5), and crab hand roll (2/5). Overall, I'm disappointed by the food because for $7+ each roll, I expect the fish to be really fresh. The tuna did not taste fresh at all, the crab was too fishy tasting, and the scallops were okay but not impressive.

Yelp
We had a really good dinner here. My favorite was the Hamachi hand roll - there's a flavor in it that got it over the top for me. My 12 year old convinced us to let him order the Lobster and Uni hand roll and that was his favorite - my husband almost didn't get a little bit to try it since our son ate it so fast. They do a good job here of seasoning the rice, adding a touch of salt, and then your choose. Ingredient. It was a great meal, and if we are in town again we'll pay them another visit!

Yelp
Came here with my friends last month and we each ordered 3-4 hand rolls and also got the pork belly fries to share. I got albacore, creamy scallop and blue fin toro hand rolls. Each roll comes out one by one and they will wait until you are done with your roll before bringing out the next one to ensure the freshness of it. Albacore was the best one. The others were ok. Mediocre. My friends thought theirs were just alright as well. Fries were kinda stale and the pork belly had no taste. Chef was really nice but unfortunately we won't be back for the food.
