Kinsley - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Kinsley is an all-day restaurant in the Loop from the same team behind Fairgrounds Cafe. Their eclectic menu has breakfast tacos, burgers, and funnel cake along with drinks like coffee, tea, and cocktails. In addition to their large open dining space, they also have a spacious 50-seat outdoor patio. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Explore the Loop’s World’s Fair-Inspired All-Day Restaurant and Bar - Eater Chicago

"An expansive new all-day restaurant and bar from the Chicago group behind cafe mini-chain Fairgrounds Craft Coffee & Tea is coming in September to a prominent Loop location across from the city’s Lyric Opera of Chicago. Named for Herbert M. Kinsley, a Chicago restaurateur of the era who oversaw dining at the fair, the restaurant seeks to look into the future despite its roots in the past: the 5,100 square-foot space is designed to lure the stream of workers returning to offices in the building and the neighborhood, as well as local residents." - Naomi Waxman

Such a pretty place and the interior is really well done. Free WiFi and charging stations in some areas. Super clean and modern. Food and drinks. Wait staff and no waitresses tables too. Optional. Great peaceful place to read a book. Free water in glass cups. Outdoor and indoor seating. Friendly staff.

Changed my route to the office this morning and decided to pop in here because there was no lines = no waiting - big mistake! There was literally one person ahead of me in line for coffee - it took a while for them to take our orders, but they have a mobile ordering system, so maybe they were working on something. 10 minutes later for a latte for the lady ahead of me and a mocha for myself - and it tasted just like any other coffee joint and was definitely $2+ than the joint in 1 S Wacker. The space was trendy and cool and if you’re not in a rush or you think 10-minutes for a coffee is acceptable, by all means give this place a shot. Will probably try again for a sit down lunch, but avoid for your morning coffee rush if you have a 9a meeting.

Great place to grab a sandwich or salad during the workday. You order at the counter and there is plenty of seating so you don’t have to do takeaway. You can sit and enjoy your food in a bright feeling space. The servers were fantastic. The food was more utilitarian than extraordinary, but that’s not a bad thing. You’ll have a good meal and you can carry on about your day.

The fire roasted chicken melt was recommended to me by the staff and although it was tasty, it did have an odd smell to it that I couldn’t quite get past. I did enjoy sitting in the dining area as it was very pleasant and appealing. I may revisit for their matcha latte.

Google
Such a cute little place!!!!! So pretty on the inside and the NICEST staff. Popped in for the first time today since it’s in my building, and the burger I ordered was really good! I added a fried egg and it changed the game. Giving four stars instead of five only because it was just a little pricey, but that’s eating in the Loop for ya. Overall great experience!

Clean inviting restaurant. Staff is super nice and helpful. You can either order at the counter, but can skip the line by using the app or self serve kiosk to the left. Food was outstanding for the price as well. Highly recommend 🔥

Google
A 5 star experience on every level!! I organized a work holiday party at Kinsley and my, was it a five star experience on every level. The event manager, Andrew, could not have been any friendlier and the event was very well staffed, everyone loved the food, and the venue is as beautiful in person as online. I would highly recommend Kinsley for anything from a happy hour to a work event!

Yelp
It's attached to the UBS Tower on the opposite side of Wacker. The vibes are on point, it has a beautiful interior with plenty of space. The options on the menu seem pretty extensive and I went with the Vietnamese Cold Brew. It wasn't bad, but for the price I expected more to it. The staff were friendly and chatted with the customers. I only ordered a coffee so there really wasn't much of a wait. Overall it's a bit on the expensive side for what you're getting.

Yelp
Convenient spot for a business lunch! Quick service and lovely decor and ambiance. Food is ok! Pretty good, and neutral in my opinion. Lots of salad and sandwich options and most clients enjoy coming to this spot when we do business lunches!

Yelp
Fresh chicken tenders every time. Fries so good it taste like it's meat. Smash burgers need to be seasons more. They were kind of dry. Will be back because I work across the street from the spot.

Yelp
So glad this coffeeshop is here. I'm surprised by the reviews but I've also gone during off peak times and the service has been quick with delicious coffee. I usually get the iced coffee and they always have great selection of non dairy milks. The vibes are great and it's a fantastic spot to grab coffee or lunch and catch up with a friend. Highly recommend.

Yelp
As others have stated here my issue is with the customer service. I came in during a break to order a latte. There were at least 3 people standing behind the counter. One said, to me, "you can order at the kiosk, there are pictures of things on it" after going through and completing my order, it somehow erased from the kiosk, so I went to Starbucks 1 block away. I was the only customer in the entire place at noon, if one of the few employees would have just taken the order for an 8 dollar Latte there would have been no issue. There is literally better customer service at Dunkin Donuts. Kiosks work at McDonald's, but this being an expensive, upscale place you'd expect some care on the employees part.

Yelp
incredibly slow service...staff needs to prioritize during a rush. my coffee was made but it was sitting behind the counter for a while because staff was spread too thin trying to catch up. drinks tasted fine, though. wouldn't come back, will try another local spot instead.

Yelp
It's an absolutely beautiful place with some great (and expensive) food options, and I recognize that it's still a difficult time to open a coffee shop and restaurant like this. I can only imagine how much money must have been invested. Nevertheless, there is a lot of room for improvement. The girl with glasses and dark hair who works at the end of the bar (Tue morning) and is supposed to give people their drinks and foods should be fired. Period. She's more interested in checking out her phone than interacting with customers. When I order a drink for DineIn, why is it made to go? And when a customer notes this, the drink should be re-made and not poured over. If you charge almost $5 for a small drink then at least make it right. The bagels are horrible. I mean, literally one of the worst bagels I've ever had in my life. I think I can get a better bagel at Dunkin Donuts or a highway rest stop. Given the overall quality of food here, please find a different supplier for your bagels. On the upside, the matcha cortado is amazing, definitely something everyone should try. I'll try this place a few more times because of the atmosphere, but if the service remains bad I'll start going somewhere else. I would also recommend responding to poor reviews as well, and not just positive ones.

Yelp
I came here twice for a small latte -- both times it took 20 minutes after I ordered to get my latte, and it didn't taste good either time.

Yelp
Service is brutally slow. I actually ordered on line ahead of time because of past experiences. It took 22 minutes to get 1 simple latte.

Yelp
Great customer service. Killer happy hour. Reslly enjoy grabbing lunch even though the menu is a little limited. Definitely reccomend for a quick bite in the loop.

Yelp
I work in the building, and since I didn't have time to grab breakfast on the way into work, after I got settled I ordered a bagel from Kinsley and went down to grab it about five minutes later. It was wonderful that it was all ready, sitting in it's little cube so I just had to grab it and go back to my office. But...the way they make their bagels leaves pretty much everything to be desired. I ordered just a normal everything bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was more like just normal bread than bagel, and they apparently slice them, brush oil on the inside, then put it through one of those rolling toasting machines. In no way did I want oil on my bagel. And overall, the whole thing was just a flavorless pile of mush. I ate about 1/8 of it because I was hungry. The rest slid into the trash. If I had the time, I would have bundled back up and went to the Dunkin' down the street. I'll try Kinsley again, but never-ever for their bagels.

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of fairgrounds for ever since it came to Knox Henderson in Dallas. I was excited to see that they had a different concept by my hotel while I was in Chicago on business. This place is different but awesome. The coffee is what you would expect from fairgrounds but elevated and done better than I've ever had it before from them. They had Kiosks everywhere so when I walked in I was a little confused but a friendly associate named Josh helped me pick out a coffee and explained everything to me and made a great suggestion to me to try the shakshuka it had great spice and a poached egg in the middle. They also made made me a Vietnamese cold brew and gave me samples of tap coffees and kombuchas it made me feel like a VIP especially when the barista Ophelia brought the order to my table when I got caught on a last minute call. I liked the food and drinks so much I came back in the evening for a drink and got an espresso old fashioned this was super unique I've gotten an espresso martini before but this played more to my tastes with the bourbon it was also served with nitro definitely cool! Dylan the bartender made me a super cool 'secret cocktail creation' called the purple haze the color was a really cool purple and it tasted great! I like it so much I tried one more that they said was an espresso chai-tini it was really good kind of like a dirty chai martini. I wish I lived in Chicago because I would come here all the time! I seriously can't recommend enough.

Yelp
Kinsley is the absolute best place in the loop! Becky, Tyler, and Dustin are especially wonderful. The food, drinks, and service are the best in the game. I highly recommend Kinsley!

Yelp
Awesome experience. Design and food was incredible! Can't wait to come back soon. Don't pass up the funnel cake shake!

Yelp
Happy hour at Kingsley is a steal out in the city center! I definitely recommend it as the ambiance is fantastic thanks to the staff here. The food had improved drastically since the last times I tried in 2022. Highly recommend to meet very awesome people!

Yelp
As a tenant of One North, I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of Kinsley all summer .... and couldn't be more disappointed. The fit-out is stunning and the food / drink offering looks nice, however the service is abysmal. In spite of several unfavorable reviews by colleagues, I went to get a coffee. No one was there (note: this is morning rush and I ended up at Kinsley because two other coffee shops were too busy; lack of patrons during the busiest time should have been my first red flag). I stood waiting while the girl at the counter never bothered to look up, just messing around on the register. She knew I was there. I gave up and walked out. Apparently they will not take your order at the counter, but no one bothered to inform me of that - they all just watched me walk in, wait to order, walk out. I feel for the owners as it looks as though they made a huge investment in this space, but unless they quickly resolve the customer service issue, they will surely fail.
