The 12 Best Hotel Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"You’ll find Kioku—a swish, tranquil Japanese restaurant—on the roof of the Old War Office (or Raffles London, as it’s now known). With views of the London Eye, Big Ben, and some of London’s most artistic nigiri thanks to sushi master and executive chef Endo, this isn’t somewhere for a casual meal. The menu blends classic European fine dining with Japanese ingredients, and savouring Kioku’s chashu pork ramen ravioli on its chi-chi wraparound terrace is about as luxurious a lunch you can have." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

Kioku By Endo - Review - Westminster - London - The Infatuation

"Kioku By Endo is another restaurant in the growing portfolio of Endo Kazutoshi, the sushi master and head chef of Endo at the Rotunda. It's on the top floor of the Old War Office, near Embankment, and riding the lift up and up here is exciting, if a little unnerving. Ascending floors to lunch or dinner tends to mean the price will be similarly lofty. photo credit: Kioku photo credit: Kioku photo credit: Kioku photo credit: Kioku photo credit: Kioku Pause Unmute That's the case at Kioku, although some of the food justifies it. Given it’s on top of a snazzy hotel, it isn’t surprising that the vibe of the room is shades of beige with views of Big Ben in the distance. Trust fund toddlers loll about in their seats at lunchtime, fiddling with impeccable otoro nigiri, while older versions do the same. The sushi is high quality, though we’d prefer a touch of vinegar in the rice. Mains are where Western fine dining influence comes into play and a chashu pork ramen ravioli is a delicious example. Other things, like a fiddly sea bass, are forgettable. Now that his flagship restaurant has reopened, you're unlikely to see Endo float around Kioku. And the fact of the matter is, this spot isn’t nearly as thrilling or focused as his eponymous London restaurant. But for high-class sushi next to the Thames, you won't find anywhere better. Food Rundown Nigiri Selection Given it's from a sushi master, you shouldn't be surprised that the most compelling reason to come to Kioku is to eat raw fish. The chef's nigiri selection includes melt-in-your-mouth hotate, sweet but firm hamachi, and all manner of otoro. We prefer our rice to have a little more flavour—but it's still excellent. photo credit: Jake Missing Chashu Pork Ravioli This bowl of ravioli mixes the deep, porky flavours of chashu pork ramen with the dainty finesse of a bowl of fine dining-style pasta. It's a success. And the salty broth is perfectly balanced. photo credit: Jake Missing Sea Bass This sea bass is dressed like a Chelsea Flower Show contender and it's nice enough, with crunchy asaparagus and vibrant hits of yuzu kosho. You're just unlikely to remember it once you've walked out of the restaurant. photo credit: Jake Missing" - Jake Missing

London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Another week, another new restaurant that Endo Kazutoshi has a hand in opening. Kioku by Endo is a 55-seat dining room at the fancy Whitehall hotel, Raffles London at The OWO. It’s on the rooftop, with sweeping views of London and a big outside terrace. The menu will be Japanese, with dishes also inspired by Endo’s travels in Spain. We recently checked out Kioku By Endo. Read our first thoughts here. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Kioku feels slightly different this time — the dishes lean more heavily into Japanese flavours, though the creativity certainly hasn’t diminished. And luckily, it’s now possible to enjoy some bottles of Aramasa right here in London. Since finishing a whole bottle wasn’t realistic, we ordered two by-the-glass pours: Tsuchi-to and Suiboku — both that lovely, delicate “sweet-water” style I really enjoy. Throughout the meal, glasses of sake kept coming one after another; my glass was never empty. Welcome Drink ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Apple whisky highball — light apple sweetness with gentle bubbles, very refreshing. Toro-taku ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fatty tuna paired with spring onion and nori aroma — rich layers of umami and fragrance. Sake|Nabeshima Aiyama Madai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sweet-tart pickled vegetables match beautifully with the subtle sweetness of the white fish. Suzuki ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Light smoke and sweetness; sauce is sweet–tart and bright. Sake|Aramasa Suiboku Hirame ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A gentle acidity at first, followed by the clean sweetness of the fish. Zuke Saba ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Soft flesh with the richness of mackerel and the aroma of vinegar — bold and flavourful. Akami ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As excellent as always — tender umami with a touch of yuzu fragrance. Sake|Kamo Kinshu Chawanmushi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Delicately steamed and slightly cool — very refreshing. Umami comes with hints of asparagus and corn; the sake enhances the corn aroma even further. Tenaga Ebi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The sweetness, snap and sticky-soft texture all show perfectly. Chutoro ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Balanced fat and umami, with a subtle aroma. Buri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Yuzu kosho brings mild heat; crisp texture, charcoal notes and fat come together well. Uni ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sweet, melting, clean. Hiramasa ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Firm flesh with light salinity; sauce is sweet–sour–umami, giving the fish extra dimension. Sake|Aramasa Tsuchi-to Miyazaki A5 Wagyu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sweet–salty sauce matches the tender Wagyu perfectly. Rich fat, deep umami, and mushrooms adding crisp texture and fragrance. Kakigōri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bright fruit acidity with strawberry sweetness; torched cream gives a toasted marshmallow note. Fruit Liqueur|Black Tea Umeshu Plum Dessert ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Some plum pieces intensely tart, others gently sweet; ice cream strongly aromatic with rosemary. Cream and jam pair beautifully. Petit Desserts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nougat — soft, rich and nutty. Truffle chocolate — very soft, deeply fragrant. Cherry marshmallow — bouncy with full cherry flavour. Fruit Liqueur|Yuzu Liqueur Total bill: £300 Recommendation score: 9/10

Coming out of the lift, the staff warmly welcomed us and took us to our table outside. We were further welcomed by an open space with views of the St James Park, The London Eye, Big Ben, and Lord Nelson Column. How is that for iconic views? The decor is simple outside - minimalist and it works. We had a wander inside the restaurant, and there they have more intricate upholstery. The inside of the restaurant has also 180degree views of London via glass panels. For the dining experience, went for the tasting menu with wine pairing and thought both food and wine was exceptional. Our somelier (didn't get his name on Aug 2) was very kind and knowledgeable indeed - very straightforward to talk to and made it all work for us! Thank you! The team was also accommodating when we asked to move of our seat due to a slightly noisy group of guest nearby. The Hotel itself is grand and beautifully decorated. The lift up to the restaurant is glass panelled - one can see the different floors of the hotel as you go up to the restaurant It was such a pleasurable experience - what a gem! We will definitely come back again!

I celebrated my birthday at the Omakase Chef’s Table and had an amazing time. Everything was delicious, the wine pairing from Francesco the sommelier was spot on, and the staff looked after us really well. Such a great experience!

We had a wonderful experience from start to finish - in the sake bar and then to the restaurant, a fluid journey. My family was in town for my mom’s birthday and this made a great special occasion dinner. The waitress and hosts were attentive and patient and friendly. Food was excellent - all the sushi and we loved the black cod and the mushroom side. It’s definitely expensive but worth it for a special occasion!

A third visit to Kioku by Endo this time for Sunday Lunch. We ate off the set lunch menu and it was superb. Great choices. Each dish was innovate, flavoursome and intricate. Some of the very best Japanese food we’ve had the pleasure of eating. However one disappointment being the welcome drink which we’ve enjoyed previously now not being part of the offering. A shame to be honest as the rest of the menu remains the same. Little touches can make such a difference and taking something away isn’t a great look. Service was fantastic. Professional, friendly, informative. Top notch. Bar the nibble restating the welcome drink, this is an all around awesome experience. I’m certain a Michelin star is coming their way next year. Thoroughly recommended.

Came here for the first time with friends coming to town. The hotel building was not hard to find. However, once stepped into the hotel there's no directional sign whatsoever directing to the restaurant. Eventually found the designated lift to the 6th floor. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by the wait staff. We were the first group of customers to arrive at noon and we all chose the 4-course lunch menu (£65 pax). Each dish was perfectly presented. Lamb was never my thing, but their lamb was so tender and juicy. It really exceeded my expectation. It was the best lamb dish I have ever had. I must also mention their Crème Brûlée which interestingly came with a pleasant salty touch. I will definitely come back for the lamb and crème brûlée.

A warm welcome and a wonderful atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a remarkable menu. The food was amazing from start to finish, with flavours matching the textures and appearance. Amazing flavour combinations and beautiful presentation. Stunning views from the roof over Westminster. Top class Japanese cuisine with a European twist, excellent wine list with dedicated sommelier to help you choose well.

Outstanding meal. The restaurant is targeting a Michelin level of service and food, with a large, attentive staff and an amazing selection of dishes. Portions are as you'd expect in a restaurant of this quality and with the food's presentation. Some of the starters were extremely creative. Best meal of our two week trip; would definitely go again.
