Had a wonderful evening filled with yummy food last Friday. It was a feel good dinner with friends of 40yrs plus. Our waiter and owner made us feel at home, providing expectional service. The owner in conversation, learned two us had birthdays earlier and another one us Monday, to help us celebrate she celebrate all 4 of us with delicious mango ice cream with a candle. We had many laughs, and crested a new memories. Yes, birthday wishes and delicious food. Thanks again!

It’s a local gem. Definitely underrated Indian restaurant. The food and service is in great shape! I had take out first recommended by my bf. It was memorable then we went there in person. We ordered bunch of food. They all great! Go try it out.

WORST Indian food in New York. They don't know how to cook chat, Rogan josh or Aloo paratha. The sauce seemed very stale. The chef needs to learn first. Whatever he cooked, is not Indian food. All the dishes were sweet, not spicy. The plates and utensils looked very dirty. I told them to wash again but they still looked like those were made in the 1980s. The server was very unprofessional and acted like he is working in a Dhaba, no manners. The bill was hand written like a local desi hotel. I've never seen these bills in NY. It looked like they made up a number to adjust the tax and bills. Very weird experience. Please stay away with a 10 feet limbo pole from this place.

A community staple serving authentic Indian Food. The dishes were made to perfection. The poori with cheese could have been larger and more flavorful among with the other bread selections. Service was attentive and employees wore masks. Fair pricing for dinner for two. Definitely recommend Kismat if you’re in Northern Manhattan.

This is hands-down the worst Indian food I've ever eaten in my life. I've had better Indian food in an airport. The daal tasted like baked beans from a can, like barbecue sauce. The naan was soggy and bland. The paneer tasted old. The cocktails tasted like a mix of bottom shelf well and red #40. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to cheap food, but for two entrees and two cocktails we paid nearly $90 - not including tax or tip! The server's attitude seemed to suggest that he was both aware of and unapologetic about the poor quality food and drink. I'd have had a better experience eating microwaved tasty bite curry from food town and drinking Georgi vodka with Kool aid at home for a quarter of the cost. Wow.

My wife and I had our wedding reception this last weekend at Kismat. Our guests and ourselves were completely satisfied with Kismat's food, service, and atmosphere. Our reception was scheduled from 3 to 5 on Saturday. Kismat was graceful enough to allow for the 30-minutes early arrival of our guests. The eight reserved tables were beautifully dressed and ready to receive our guests. Kismat separated our section from the rest of the restaurant which made for intimacy and privacy. They also set aside a long table to place the cake and gifts. A large contingent, including the chef and owner, at least three servers, and two bus persons worked diligently to make sure we had all we needed. Our party included thirty guests who were offered a five-course meal with meat, vegetarian, and vegan menu options. We are glad to have chosen Kismat for our wedding reception.

I ordered take out and it was really good. I got the vegetable samosa, the chicken makhani, the basmati rice and garlic naan. Everything was very good, I really enjoyed the chicken makhani it was delicious! I’ll definitely be going in person soon.

We've been here many times and it's always been lovely and delicious. This time though we hosted my father-in-law's memorial here and they were so kind and wonderful. They had a great projector set up for us for displaying photos and a PA system so people could give remembrances. The food was wonderful and they were all so very kind to us. I highly recommend Kismat and Sammie (and all the other lovely folks working there) whether for lunch, dinner or special events.

I went to this pretty standard northern Indian restaurant a good while ago after a walk with a large group of others. The inside is nice and the service was pretty friendly answering people's questions for our rather large group. Presuming by the photo, I had a beer to drink. They gave us some papadum and some chutney to begin. The papadum was standard while the tamarind chutney being a tad sweet and the mint one being a bit watery. The menu is pretty easy for newcomers with a lot of the menu being a variety of your standard curries with a choice of protein. They have a surprising amount of beef on the menu (with one of the specials being beef based and them even having burgers) which is a little bit surprising. I went with the vindaloo with mixed seafood which has crab, tilapia, scallops, and shrimp. The vindaloo was fine with a good amount of heat and some sourness. There was a surprising amount of seafood inside though some of it didn't exactly taste the freshest. It was fine and the price was pretty reasonable for the large portion. It's not the best Indian food I've had but definitely not the worst. If I was in the area again, I'd presumably go with the kebabs or something and avoid the seafood/generic curries. Probably an upper 2 helped by the pretty reasonable prices.

Worst Indian food ever had. Everything tasted sweet and they even put sugar in naan. Dal makhni was horrible, sweetest dal ever i have tasted.

I finally got to try this lovely Indian restaurant out. The interior was colorful and decorative with a cozy ambiance. I ordered the Mixed Seafood Kurma and Garlic Cheese Naan to go. The Seafood Kurma consisted of shrimp, tilapia, crab, and scallop. It was absolutely delicious with tons of seafood throughout the dish, especially tilapia and crab. The tilapia was wonderfully tender and flaky. Shrimp was juicy and succulent. The crab was light and well seasoned. Scallops were soft, yet meaty. Sauce was delightfully savory and bold in flavor with various spices. The Garlic Cheese Naan was oh so tasty. The melty cheese and strong taste of garlic was the perfect combination, making for mouthwatering bites. Service was good and I received my food in a timely manner. The pricing was very reasonable. I would definitely like to return to try the Mixed Tandoori and Lobster Biryani (since it is quite unique.)

Service and food is always great at Kismat! Never fails and they had loads of vegan and vegetarian options as well as gluten free options.

Best Indian restaurant north of E. 6th St. in NYC. I order from this place more than all the other restaurants in my neighborhood combined. Check it out!

It's been a while since we've been back to Kismat. So long that we noticed they expanded. While the expansion looked decent, the food was not how we remember. The chicken tikka masala tasted as if old chicken was used and was salty. The sag paneer lacked flavor and the peas were rock hard. The cleanliness was also lacking. We received a drink in a cup that still had lipstick stains and the water carafe had food remnants/particles stuck inside. We saw some of the same staff we used to see many years ago and that was a pleasant sight. The service overall was just ehh. I really hope this changes for the better.

Just moved into the neighborhood and came here for dinner last week. The first thing was how welcoming the hostess was, the way she welcomed me made me feel like I was a regular or a part of the family. Such a nice vibe. I had a simple order: a beer, chicken tandoori with rice and a naan. I'm not sure if they make their own naan, but it was so soft and flavorful it was great. I'm looking forward to coming back for a curry soon.

Been eating here for years. Food is consistently good and vegetarians have lots of options. Live jazz on Tuesdays and Fridays with no cover charge! Great daily happy hour prices with excellent draft beer. What's not to like?

Such a pleasant surprise . We decided to come here before heading to the park for a few samosas to have while enjoying our time listening to poetry and that jazz band , and we were so happy we did . The samosas were so tasty we had to come back . So after the performances we decided to have lunch there. This place serves delicious east indian food and the service was great . We ordered chana saag and seafood masala (sorry the food smelled so good I forgot to take photos of the dishes untouched . Needless to say we loved everything (even the garlic naan ) I dont live close but if ever I come to the park again I will be dining at Kismat

This place was a welcome find after a chilly walk through Fort Tryon Park. First of all, the option to pair a salty passion fruit margarita with Indian food - delightful. (This got me thinking, I wonder whether a tiny bit of kala namak would work in margaritas!) The food was delicious, quite salty but not too much so. I'm thrilled with the number of vegetarian dishes and we'll have to come back many more times to try them all.

I enjoyed dinner at Kismat restaurant last evening, March 29th, 2024. My friends and I ordered a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes, as well as appetizers. We had a wonderful time and loved the food. There was live music and great service. Kismat has long been a neighborhood staple. Highly recommend.

10/10! I lived temporarily in the neighborhood for 2 months and I'm so happy I found Kismat right away! I tried nearly everything on the menu to land on my 2 favorites, medium Chicken malai and hot lamb kurma. I played around with several heat options, hot for me is a bit too hot but the medium is perfect. The pineapple in the malai is not over powering it's perfectly balanced, and the kurma is now my favorite Indian dish. Delivery is well packaged and fresh, if ever I'm in the area this will be my first pick! Not one picture because the food is devoured!

Absolute horrible customer service! Items was missing from my order! 1 Very rude & sarcastic employee telling me "I don't know what to tell you" and the night staff manger was no help either because he first was kind but when I ask for an accommodation for my order that's equally priced the same or to just refund the price for the missing item...he tells me "I'm talking too much" and soon I as ask for his name he hung up the phone. And btw I could hear all the side conversations every time I was put on hold for 5min 3 times even for the manager to tell the employee to tell me that he's not there Everyone who thinks this is okay needs to real awakening. Either go through retraining or hire new staff because there is no way the restaurant located in the Bronx is 5stars but this particular location was shocking the food that did show up didn't meet expectations so no I will not be ordering from this particular place...next time cook the food with love and treat you customers with care!

Excellent Indian Food here in Hudson Heights. Always accommodating and go the extra step. The reason for the four stars is that the Samosas and like food, does not travel well when home delivered. Otherwise in house 5, home delivery 4 stars.

If your love Indian food specially from North side taste. Must try this place. Service is good but expect to stand in line for bit. Ofcourse since the food is delicious you've got to wait a bit. Must try.

Never was a big fan of Indian food but Kismat has changed my feelings. The food and the service are both great. The lunch specials are the best dining deal in Washington Heights.

Happened to dine in on Tuesday with my wife as the place was bumping thanks to live jazz night. Loved to see locals taking turns in playing music while there were hot, fresh meals served around. Haven't had Indian food in a long time, but this place was really good! We got seated quickly, the food was prompt and the staff was friendly. My wife really enjoyed the shrimp curry. I got the chicken tikka masala which was also great. Chicken/vegetable samosas are a must try! I wish the garlic naan had a stronger garlic flavor, but it was ok. Was also sad the bartender put a lemon in my Blue Moon lol. Little things but I will def be back!

This is a great local restaurant serving North Indian food. It is uniformly fresh, spicy and excellent. The staff is friendly. It is an asset to Hudson Heights

This new dish Dahl Makhani was absolutely delicious. My new favorite vegan dish. The only reason I gave it a four is because it was supposed to come with cabbage and Dahl according to Grubhub, but I found out that they stopped doing that. The cabbage and Dahl went well with the dishes. Overall, it was great. The vegan and gluten-free Naan was amazing.

I've finally found my go to Indian restaurant for delivery! Kismat gives you great portions, warm food, extra soup and everything is so flavorful. What more could you want? I'll def dine in one day but until then reliable delivery it is.

Food is top notch Indian cuisine, carefully prepared and presented...not too spicy. Very good appetizers and many tasteful selections to choose from, with fresh pan. Clean plates and glasses were served, a sticking point for my wife...a must and she inspects meticulously. The waiters were friendly and offered good recommendations, we were offered the best seating and allowed to choose which table we wanted. A cozy window table for two, very comfortable. Another COVID 19 delivery. I ordered the vegetable samosas, sahina, and chicken tandoori. The vegetable samosas were crisp and tasty, but I would have enjoyed a little more flavor in the filling. The chutneys, a mint chutney, and an onion pineapple chutney were very good and added flavor on the outside! The sahina, which is spinach and lentil pea patties, were delicious, especially with the sauce. The chicken tandoori, which I ordered hot, was moist and juicy. The only downside is because of how it is cooked on the bone, the spice is generally only on the outside, and isn't throughout. Flavors still good. Each order also comes with cabbage, which was ok, but not the best cabbage I've ever had, as well as dal. The dal was thick and creamy and well seasoned. Delivery was fast and the order was right. They have a large menu full of tasty-looking things I would to try.

This is my favorite restaurant of all time! I dream about this food when I'm not in New York. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. These days, I don't eat meat, and there are plenty of flavorful veggie options. I really like the Saag Motor Paneer lately. I've always loved the samosas with the green sauce. They always welcome us like family. It's perfect for takeout, for a nice meal in the outdoor area, or indoors as well if you're comfortable with that. The flavors are just bursting from their food. Thank you for some of the best meals of my life!

Good flavors and portions! We've been here a few times and always leave satisfied! They also have a happy hour if interested and live music on Tuesdays (please check to see if that is correct before going). The veggie samosa, lamb Rogan Josh and chicken tikka Masala are so flavorful and delicious! We love to order the fresh garlic naan as well. Although the portions may appear small at first, they are very filling! Definitely recommend coming here!

FIX YOUR AIR CONDITIONING! Awful for guests and even worse for employees! We could hardly enjoy our meal.

Great food. Jazz 2 nights a week. Friendly neighborhood bar with extensive happy hours. Our home away from home. Salmon and lamb and Chana Masala all wonderful.

So nice to have good South Asian food right in Washington Heights! I got the paneer makhni (like butter chicken but with paneer) and also tried one of my friend's samosas. Both items were quite good! The portions were on the smaller side for the price, but I know especially during COVID businesses will have to do what they have to do, so I was fine to pay for it and eat at a local small business. If you're uptown and craving South Asian food, definitely check Kismat out!

Just ordered take out from this restaurant and by far one of the worst Indian food I've had and I love Indian food. We ordered the chicken tika masala, paneer mahkni, and garlic nan. All the curries were super watery and had a layer of oil on top. The paneer was rubbery and the chicken was dry. Also the tika masala had so much onions in it even more than the chicken! I've never even seen onions in tika masala before. The only thing that was okay is the garlic nan. Not going to order from here again.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area -- a place to go for a special occasion. I especially appreciated their vegan biryani and other vegan and vegetarian options. Ordered delivery today and everything seemed to be either 1-2 days old (including the RICE, which was soggy and had a smell, and the samosas, which felt microwaved and are almost certainly not made in house). The chutney was far too sweet. One of the curries was also inexplicably sweet. I believe this place has let its standards slip and is not serving fresh food.

They're the only Indian restaurant in the area. 0 Indian food competition. So with that being said the food is very basic. Doesn't blow my mind. It's very middle of the road. Tasty but like a few other reviews said I believe they microwave stuff. Pricey. Very pricey but that's the deal when you're the only Indian food in the heights. I'll probably order again but I only eat from them maybe 1x a year.

We ordered takeout on a Friday night and we really enjoyed it! The staff were friendly, efficient, and our food was packaged well so that when we got home it was still warm. They also gave us plenty of coriander sauce and onion chutney, which made me very happy because their coriander sauce is amazing! They gave us more than enough rice too, which we appreciated. I've had better garlic naan at other restaurants, which was disappointing. Our chicken tikka masala was perfect and the lamb korma was also cooked perfectly. We'll definitely be back!

This staple of the Ft. Washington neighbourhood by the GW bridge in NYC serves fresh Indian-Bangladeshi food that are quite memorable. We ordered garlic naan and mulligatawney soup with bold flavors that instantly deliver you to the south asia. We also tried the chicken korma and clam curry, both of which are delicious and can easily compete with the best NJ counterparts. I actually never tried a clam curry before and this is a great introduction to this seafood delicacy! The only possible drawback is the slightly more "gourmet" price tags (but in fairness, that is balanced by the quality and satisfaction that comes with the dinner experience), and service was somewhat a bit draggy -- at times we had to come to the cashier to ask for more refills. Great atmosphere, nice neighborhood otherwise. As you leave the restaurant, check out the long staircase right across the street that was featured in Liam Neeson's 'A Walk Among the Tombstones'!

NEWLY RENOVATED!! I finally sat down here for dinner with my husband on a Friday night. The place used to look outdated and old so we never felt persuaded to go. After seeing the new look we had to try it. Food was excellent. We ordered the assorted appetizer (highly recommend) and Chicken Tikka Masala ($13). The portions were perfect and the food had tons of flavor. Don't forget to order the naan bread. It was crowded on a Friday night and there was even live music. We didn't try any drinks but I saw on the menu they have happy hour until 8pm. The owner really put effort into revamping this place. I felt compelled to review it since most of the reviews are a reflection of the old restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere! Will be returning soon.

So after 4 years I decided to give this place another try. I have had Indian food from a number of places and have had good experiences and love indian food now. Sadly to say, kismat still falls short of flavor and quality. I ordered lobster curry vindaloo and I could not eat it. The lobster meat was so tough and chewy that I had to look at my order to make sure I ordered the right thing. Food needs seasoning and better cooking technique. Sorry I gave you another try but this place is not for me. Garlic naan was good hence the 2 stars and not 1.

I was really craving some Indian food, and let me tell you, they really served that thing. Thanks to yelp, I found Kismat, and it was everything & more! We ordered some naan, vegetable samosas, mixed seafood, malai, and more. Every single dish was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was there were no actual lychees in my lychee martini, but I wouldn't knock a star off for that. I'll be back for more!

I order food here probably once a week and I take all my friends here when they come visit. This is the best food ever, I get the chicken tikka masala and holy crap it is the best thing I have ever eaten in my life. The service is so good here, very sweet hardworking and caring people. The ambiance is amazing, the lighting is perfect, lots of space not crowded at all and there's live music on Friday's! I've been sick with bronchitis and have ordered their food every day for the past week. Can't get sick of it, I love this place.

Atmosphere: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Service: 2/5 It hurts to write a negative review but...I've probably come here about 5-6 times in the last 2 years. It's been hit or miss from the beginning, but unfortunately, the most recent visit will probably be my last. We came here for dinner and I ordered a paneer curry. I specified to the waiter that I want it really, really spicy. Indian hot. The waiter nodded his head and said okay. Our dishes arrived about 5 minutes after ordering (suspicious). Sadly, the dish was not spicy and lacked flavor. (Seriously, it wasn't spicy at all and tasted like something you grab off of a $6 subpar Indian lunch buffet) The worst part comes next. When the waiter walked by, I asked if it would be possible for the kitchen to make it more spicy. He shook his head no and pointed to the bottle of hot sauce they have sitting on the table. He then walked away. I was SHOCKED. Anyone who knows the basics of Indian Cuisine would agree that spice in a dish does not come from American Hot Sauce. It comes from a combination of spices and peppers cooked into the dish. When I asked for the manager, another staff member took my dish back to the kitchen and brought it back slightly spicier. It was certainly a disappointing meal. Because I was craving Indian food, I convinced my friends to walk almost half an hour with me to Kismat. As students who have limited opportunities to dine out, we are definitely disappointed when our money isn't well spent.

I am probably Kismat's oldest customer, having been there when they were in their previous location on Broadway. Luckily for everyone they moved and have renovated and expanded, with really excellent decor. Decor is not the kind of thing that normally concerns me, but I was actually impressed by how nice it looks now. And with a nice bar area, great place to listen to a LIVE jazz trio on Friday evenings! The thing that DOES concern me most is how good the food is. I can say that this is the BEST Indian food I have had in NYC. The appetizers are great, especially the piazi (onion fritters) and I love the lamb in peanut sauce. Make sure to ask for some raita (yogurt sauce), mango chutney and nan bread with your food. Oh, don't miss the Mulligatawny (tomato lentil) soup, it's awesome. The owner is really smart and also very friendly, the waiters are so great, when my son was little they even gave him little toys. It's annoying to read a lot of dopey complaints, especially about delivery orders. There is a whole species of people who do nothing but complain, usually I wouldn't care, but I can't sit by and let them knock my favorite Indian eatery.

I ordered from this place via ubereats. The portion were so small, I had to order McDonald's right after. The curry was so watery, I had to separate the water from the sauce... the kebab looked like black meat. Never seen black meat. The samosa looked like... I don't know. Basically nothing looked authentic.

Usually our go to spot for Indian food delivery. However, we had a bad experience tonight after ordering and eating most of our food to find a fly inside the cabbage (photo attached). Our one misgiving about ordering from Kismar has always been the B health rating, so this was an unwelcome validation of that concern. Please work on getting that A and then we'll be back.

Good food, but service for it bring empty was slow. The waiters desired a better attitude and more training. For what I ate, a bit pricey.

Hey all you crazy cats, I'm finally back after a long hiatus due to me not leaving my house for 467 days (app.), not even to see my imaginary friend Ruth (formerly Bianca) (more on that later). But I have returned to the fruitful world of Yelp to dish my thoughts and feelings on an establishment aptly titled "Kismat Indian Restaurant". Let me preface this by saying I am currently a practicing energy-reader, and I was absolutely ASSAULTED and MURDERED by the good energy in this place. Wowie wow wow wowwww was this place good. Food and service were both good, UNLIKE Ruth (formerly Bianca). Now, I know this isn't the place to get personal, but I simply cannot go another day without telling Ruth (formerly Bianca) that she is going to burn in hell for what she did to me and I hope the fire is very very warm because she does not like the heat but also not too hot because she really likes hot temperatures. Please do not tell me the review is looking pretty epic i know thank you very much. Anyway, the hoot and the hanny of it is that me and Ruth (formerly Bianca) are no longer BIFs (best imaginary friends). But 5 stars to this place. Truly excellent work. Yummers, Jackson
