It's a nice restaurant inside the Airport. - ATMOSPHERE: Contemporary with Garden/Nature touches. That was my favorite part of this place. You can spend time there comfortably - comfy seating booth-type seating mixed with chairs. There is also a bar if you just want a drink. - SERVICE: it was OK. Not bad, but not great. The place wasn't busy, so it could have been better. - DRINK. Strong margarita, but at $17 it wasn't amazing and 3/4 of ice in glass. - FOOD. - CRISPY EGGPLANT CUTLET - $26. It was just OK. Semi-crispy and very small for this price. Gigantic amount of French fries which I wouldn't even want - would prefer Salad / lighter side. - didn't try desert

Google
Thank you for massaging the kale in the kale salad. However it would be nice to have a vegan protein option that can be added to the salad to make it a filling meal. For example, you can add a breaded vegan chicken. Thank you. Otherwise the service and atmosphere is nice for this terminal and it’s nice to see a few salad options here. Once again please add vegan options to your menu.

A gem in terminal A. I've been coming to Newark airport for a long time. Kitchen step is hands down the best breakfast I have had. Even better than Classified. I really like the atmosphere. Plants on the tables, lots of space, and a pillar decorated like gardens by the bay in Singapore. I also loved the food. My avocado toast was amazing. A thick slice of thick-crusted breakd topped with avocado and crushed red pepper flakes. Highly recommended. Finally, Ana was an excellent server. She really made it an outstanding experience.

Popped in on a Wednesday morning before an early flight to Nashville. Bartender was cool, I asked for a burger with a side salad and an IPA. Received a chicken sandwich by accident but it all got resolved and I received a free beer because of it. Everyone was very apologetic and I appreciated it. Food was decent, and the beer was okay. I felt good on my flight so I couldn't really be too upset. Overall it was a net positive experience.

Google
Limited options and airport tasting food. Side salad was just lettuce and chicken sandwich was ok at best. I know it’s Newark airport but they’ve got to do better.

Google
That is my fav of all airports eatery. The food and selection are amazing. Service was comfy friendly and professional. Thank you!!

Google
I had a great experience at Kitchen Step. The front host Velande went the extra mile to make us feel welcomed - She exhibited professionalism, efficiency, and friendliness, upon receiving my questions about different foods, and got us hot water when she knew we had upset stomach. The patience she presented was very real and sincere, as an adult, you can tell the difference between fake and realness. Her amazing work defined the great vibes of this restaurant.

Google
Very nice food for an airport. I'm usually used to terrible food at inflated prices, but I'm happy that this place had extremely decent food for the money. I had the Shakshuska breakfast and it was delicious. My wife had the French toast and shared some with me and it was also lovely. Service was also excellent.

Yelp
I thought I would never say this but wow United flight area in Terminal A was a great experience for me. I do a decent amount of flying for work and I've seen some good airports and some that could use work and will say that this part of Terminal A in Newark was up to par. I had an evening flight back home and was looking for dinner before my flight and found this beautiful restaurant to dine at. They have a circular bar, which gives this place a very spacious feel and overall Terminal A around here felts spacious and not cramped. I sat at the bar and plenty of outlets to charge up your electronics. Service was prompt and efficient. I ordered a draft beer, which was nice and fresh. I had the salmon, forbidden rice and bok choy for dinner and this was an excellent dish. I love forbidden rice and they cooked this perfectly. Meal was great and several of the other bar diners were friendly and we all chatted a bit. I'll definitely come back here again. Thanks for making my flying experience comfortable and enjoyable!

Kayo N.

Yelp
Stopped by their counter last night for a beer while waiting for a flight to board nearby. Newark airport has recently gotten a facelift and this restaurant/bar is one of the new additions. I enjoyed a nice draft tangerine IPA from Departed Souls Brewing of Jersey City. I wasn't familiar with the brewery but happy to try out something unfamiliar. Service was friendly. I'd definitely stop by again.

Yelp
A gem in terminal A by gate 20-24. I've been coming to Newark airport for a long time. Kitchen step is hands down the best breakfast I have had. Even better than Classified. I really like the atmosphere and open area. Plants on the tables, lots of space, and a pillar decorated like garden. I also loved the food. My avocado toast was amazing. A thick slice of thick-crusted breakd topped with avocado and crushed red pepper flakes. Highly recommended. Finally, Ana was an excellent server. She really made it an outstanding experience.

Yelp
I stop here whenever I have time in Terminal A. Salads are always very good. I had the Arcadian greens with salmon added. Delicious and service was great!!! Usually pretty quick too

Stephanie D.

Yelp
While waiting around for my flight, the atmosphere of this restaurant immediately drew me in. It's a gorgeous aesthetic that reminded me of a higher caliber restaurant with the greenery and the twinkling tree in the middle of the space. Terminal A has definitely stepped up their game! Aside from the great atmosphere, the food was disappointingly mediocre. For this reason and considering the price point, I wouldn't return. Service was super great and while we had time to kill, our server was extremely attentive. I noticed other tables turning over fast too so I wouldn't worry about the experience taking too long. Food: I ordered the Oven roasted chicken breast with polenta, wild mushroom jus, and chive oil, which sounded mouthwatering on paper. The polenta was underwhelmingly flavorless despit the drizzle of chive oil and mushroom ju sauce on top. The chicken breast was cooked nicely, but also lacked flavor. The mushrooms made up for some of this. The broccolini seemed to be a quick blanch and was a pretty small serving of veg. The Grilled chicken sandwich was pretty good and the fries were yummy. Overall, my dish left something to the imagination and almost seemed like a rush job. Presentation with the oil was a bit sloppy too. Drink: I enjoyed a glass of a Sauvignon Blanc my waitress recommended.

Emily T.

Yelp
Good fresh food in the air port is rare. The steak was cooked to perfection and the grilled asparagus was tender. The mushroom sauce was amazing. Our server was a sweetheart and took great care of me even though I sat there a while waiting for my plane. The restaurant was busy and lively.

Yelp
Every time I fly out west, I hope my trek starts from Terminal A. Cleanliness and flow aside, it's mostly for the food. I haven't been out to Kitchen Step's flagship in Jersey City but their menu called to me while waiting on a flight to Phoenix on a Sunday afternoon. Being in an airport, the menu is limited...and at least a few dollars more expensive than you'd find elsewhere. Looking to eat at least modestly healthy: I was sat at a table and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with side salad and a Departed Souls tangerine IPA. The sandwhich was much better than the typical airport fare: herb marinated chicken breast + tomato + arugula + burrata on a brioche bun with pesto spread. The pesto was bright and herby while the creaminess of the burrata didn't feel too heavy.

Jim D.

Yelp
Terminal A is light on good restaurant choices. Kitchen Step has a variety of interesting choices that dont break the bank. My chopped salad was light and filling. $16 without $21 with chicken. The Cabernet was wonderful at a very reasonable $13. I dont think you will find it at a discount store. Thought went into this menu and as I fly out of this terminal a few times a month I will be using this restaurant regularly. I think thought went into the wine list also. Im glad I found this gem near gate 16. Service was very good also.

Jen F.

Yelp
I came to Kitchen Step to grab a bite of lunch and a glass of wine before my flight. My expectations were low considering it's an airport. What a delightful surprise the kale salad was! The kale was tender (it definitely got a loving massage beforehand) and the dressing with the gouda and crispy bits were excellent. I was so happy and filled with joy for the flight. The bartender was also so attentive, kind, and professional. The kitchen staff also seemed to have great attitudes and an attention to detail for their food. Overall I would come back again while in terminal A next time the kale (or wine) calls to me!!

Beth D.

Yelp
The staff is excellent. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I make it a point to eat here when traveling from Terminal A. Rob, the manager always comes to the table to say a quick hello. Such a nice gesture. I love the burgers and salads.

Steven L.

Yelp
Shakshuka appeared on the posted menu and I was hooked by the name of this dish. The description was intriguing. Prices were high compared to the quick serve options. I had time to spare so I took a seat. Shakshuka is to my surprise, a Mediterranean dish. Even though I mispronounced it, my wife and a friend were already familiar with it. Two baked eggs were bathed in a wonderful tomato "gravy" with vegetables some meat and avocado slices. This dish was wonderfully balanced for the basic four taste profiles. My only complaint was that there was too much tomato gravy left with no bread so suck it up. I had two Bloody Marys. They were OK, but I wanted more hot sauce in my second one. They complied with my request. As this was a higher end establishment, the service was commensurate with the exceptions of a Mid-Manhattan venue. Ambiance is an interesting rubric to evaluate. They were after all in an airport terminal. It was at the far end of the concourse. It was the center of a hub of many gates. The decor and the commanding presence of the restaurant made me forget I was even in an airport.

Dawn H.

Yelp
I am so happy Newark airport has been renovated. There are a ton of options available. Today I decided to try Kitchen Step. I was immediately greeted and seated. I ordered the shrimp piccata and the waitress said it was a great choice. My food was brought out in less than 10 minutes. The smell excited me before I even took a taste. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the portion was large. I will visit again when in the airport.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Stopped here for a drink before my flight. Ordered a glass of wine and sparkling water. The hostess when you came up were busy talking about burning her lips on her blunt. They looked at me like I was crazy when asking for a seat. I obviously needed to wait for their conversation to be over. Due to that I decided not to eat here.

Katie A.

Yelp
This was way better than your typical airport restaurant in terms of food and service! My husband and I stopped here before our flight for breakfast and had a very good meal. Our waitress was cheerful and our food came out very quickly after ordering. We almost went somewhere else because the dining area looked pretty busy, so we were pleasantly surprised at how quick the service was. I ordered the Italian breakfast sandwich, which was delicious, packed with a perfectly fried egg, prosciutto, Arugula and a (very) spicy aioli. I'll be back next time I have a flight out of Terminal A!

Thea Z.

Yelp
Honestly disappointed by the experience. I'll give it a go another time but for now I'm one and done. Service was frustrating, food quality less than average, and set up for an airport just nope. Service: the guy behind the bar could not be bothered. When I asked him for a cocktail list he said there wasn't one, that I could look at what they have and ask for something. I finally flagged him down to order wine and before I could get my order out for the food, he wandered away. He and another guy kept passing off orders to each other , 50% of them getting forgotten. I had to ask for water 3 times. Food: ordered a salad with chicken. Chicken was great! Lettuce was Sandy so not well washed (cmon!), and the banana peppers were mostly the tops which are inedible. I was a sad salad eater. Set up: it's 2023. If you're going to put a brand new eatery in an airport, have outlets. Seriously. Also people kept complaining for lack of service and kept coming up to the bar to try to order and the staff kept getting annoyed instead of addressing the issue. There were tons of staff it seemed, at least 5-6 milling about in the kitchen hanging and talking. Definitely not comparable to the kitchen step in JC or any decent restaurant that's worth a $50 spend for a salad and wine at an airport. Sorry!

Haley S.

Yelp
Ambiance-- Great earthy, relaxing ambiance, especially for an airport restaurant. Service-- Lovely wait staff! Both my waiter and the two hostesses provided kind, professional service. Getting seated and served on a Tuesday afternoon was no problem. Food-- My Kale Chicken Caesar salad was delicious. Not just for airport food, but for food in general. This was a good Caesar! The kale was so well marinated/massaged, that it did not taste bitter, not raw, or crunchy, making it easy to eat and digest. I chose to add the chicken, and I'm glad I did. The chicken tasted high quality and was cooked to my liking. It was tender, flavorful, and juicy in the way you want chicken to be. Not at all dry or rubbery or dry (two descriptors I usually associate with airport chicken). If I ever fly via Newark again, I would happily come back here

Leah A.

Yelp
This is a gem of a restaurant in the new Terminal A that is my "go to" place for breakfast prior to flights. The menu offers more than the typical egg sandwiches that is the primary breakfast item at other establishments. Today, I enjoyed the shashuka which was tasty and a good sized portion. I am glad to have a healthy food option at Newark Airport.

Brian M.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie. I'm a frequent visitor of the restaurant in Jersey City. And I was delighted to see a friendly face in a busy airport. The food and the drinks are delicious in both places. What a great addition to the airport. I would give it five stars but they didn't have the full menu yet. But I can most guarantee when they do it will be glorious. Looking forward to eating in both places again , you guys made Newark airport a nicer place

Beth A.

Yelp
We came here for lunch in Terminal A, which is in an open area. If you get to sit towards the back, although you're near the playground area, you can see a view of NYC. The service was very quick and friendly. The food was great and the salad was a large portion. We enjoyed the maple chipotle wings (comes with 8 of them). The burger I got was tasty and came with a small basket of fries. Like any other sit down restaurant in an airport, prepare to spend some money if you're ordering enteees, but compared to the cost of bottled water and snacks in airports - this is a pretty good deal!

Bill A.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast before my flight home. Honestly, I stopped because I was completely intrigued by the "Breakfast Mac n Cheese" on the menu, and I was absolutely not disappointed. It was a very cheesy cast iron mac n cheese with bacon, brown butter bread crumbs, and a fried egg. It paired perfectly with my breakfast Guinness (which is just a regular Guiness, but it was consumed in the morning because that is completely legal according to the Geneva Convention whenever you're at an airport). Will absolutely be back on my next morning flight from Terminal A.

Maggie M.

Yelp
Ny'Jae is such a breath of fresh air! You rarely get good service anymore and she is proof that good hospitality still exists!

Adam E.

Yelp
I already posted a review but wanted to come back and post a photo, I can't stop thinking about how good this was. Looking for an excuse to fly to Newark just for this dish

Alaina G.

Yelp
Delicious kale Caesar and fries! Some of the best food I've had in an airport especially .

Stephen S.

Yelp
Finally! Some decent restaurants in Newark Airport. That awful company that has a lock on Terminal C is nowhere to be seen in Terminal A. Real restaurants, real food. As for Kitchen Step, the food and the service was excellent. I look forward to eating here again and will come early before my flight to do so.

Amy L.

Yelp
An oasis in the airport! If you have time for a full service sit down meal, this is the place for friendly, polite waitstaff in a clean environment with good food. Lakisha and other employees made my travel day!

K Y.

Yelp
Staff were very helpful and friendly. It was early in the morning but it made my day. The food was good! I ordered avocado toast and it was well-balanced seasoning.

Traci W.

Yelp
Kitchen step is a bar and bistro located in terminal a of Newark airport. Sat down at the bar to grab some thing while I was waiting for my flight. They have a nice little menu that serves breakfast lunch and dinner and have varied options as well as a full bar. I opted for a glass of wine, 6 ounces at a whopping $21 but hey I'm at an airport. For food, I ordered the crispy, eggplant cutlet that had goat cheese, marinated peppers, arugula, balsamic glaze, and served on a grilled ciabatta bread. It came with fries or salad. I ordered the salad which was just spring mix, lightly dressed, but it was very tasty. The sandwich was hot, fresh, and very delicious. At $25. I'm glad it was good! All in all it's a very nice spot to grab something to eat but only for stars instead of five because it is very very expensive. But like I said, we are in an airport, so expect to pay more for everything.

Pam H.

Yelp
Interesting menu, good drinks, fast service. Smack in the middle of the end of concourse A! Healthy options,

Tom D.

Yelp
When food smacks your taste buds, there must be a response. I wish I would've taken a pic of the sandwich, because it was amazing. I had the Italian Breakfast Sandwich, and it was one of a kind. Food like that is not expected at the airport; even the coffee was perfect (and only $3 for a bottomless pour)! Just coming here for a morning coffee, while relaxing on the very comfortable booth seating, will make a good start to your travels.

Alyssa G.

Yelp
I was caught up in the whole flight delay fiasco on Tuesday and wound up at the bar here to kill the time. The bartenders here were absolutely excellent both service wise and personalities. The ambiance was pretty relaxing and pretty to look at. I wound up having breakfast that came with eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes which was pretty delicious for a meal at the airport. I also wound up eating some French fries that were hot and crispy along with some flourless chocolate cake later on in the day that was also pretty good. Some lady next to me got the French Toast that looked and smelt amazing which I would try if I ever find myself if Terminal A again. The wine was pretty pricey- 9oz of Chardonnay was $20 but since it was an airport that price is expected. The bar in general was pretty social everyone was talking to one another while enjoying their meals. This place definitely made my 8 hour wait bearable.

Brooke E. B.

Yelp
I genuinely have no idea how it's possible that one of the best meals I ever had was in the airport, but I just did. I had the skirt steak and barrata toast and it was to die for. I was shocked at how good it was. Not only that, but Ny'Jae was the best waitress. Very prompt, sweet, and conscious of when we were ready to pay. Amazing

Meghan F.

Yelp
Simple, Clean, and Satisfying Kitchen Step in Newark Liberty Airport United Terminal A is my go to for reliable gluten free and yummy food. The Romaine chop chop salad is perfectly dressed with steak (upon request) hit the spot after a long day of travel. Cucumbers brighten it, pepperoncinis spice it up, goat cheese adds a lovely tang, and the Italian dressing compliments the savory olives and steak. The best part is the warm, friendly and funny bartender, Octavio. I also enjoyed the linens as well as the atmosphere with the chatter and camaraderie of the open concept kitchen. Felt homey while on the road.

Nadine T.

Yelp
My husband and I just got off a long flight and stopped here before our connection. The drinks and food were great, chicken sandwich was delicious, not your typical average airport food! Our server, Ny'Jae was just so sweet and made our tired selves a little less tired! I wanted to give her a big thank you and shout out for being so sweet! Fabulous experience and thanks again Ny'Jae.

Erin L.

Yelp
Took 10 mins to order our food, waited for 20 minutes for the waiter to let us know they didn't have the ingredients to make one sandwich but that the others were ready. Other tables were having issues as well. We walked out.

Drew W.

Yelp
Had breakfast in the new Terminal A. The open air like atmosphere was very nice with huge trees and lights surrounding you. Nabilya was our waitress and she was so nice and friendly. The food was very good.

Laura P.

Yelp
Ny'jae is one of best waitresses I've ever had- incredible service !! Warm, welcoming, fast and somehow does it without a notepad and gets all the orders right. food was good too :)

Corneilous Y.

Yelp
I was very surprised with this restaurant. The service and food were awesome! Nija made the experience even better!!! Managers please make sure she is appreciated and valued greatly. I sat and watched how she treated all her customers. I've never had better service even at a 5 star rated restaurant. She is amazing and deserves to be recognized every day.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Let me preface my review ny saying that today has been a spectacularly shitty day to travel. I missed my flight in LGA, purchased a last minute flight at EWR and then United couldn't find a record of that flight so I purchased another flight for later in the day which caused me to have to rework my itinerary in Atlanta quite a bit. I also hadn't eaten breakfast as I was running late. So, most of this issue is my fault with the exception of United messing up my purchased flights. Regardless, I got to my terminal and sat down at Step to order a beer but decided that I needed to eat airport prices be damned and I wanted some breakfast. Come to find out that they had stoped serving breakfast, which really wasn't what I needed to hear because I had my heart set on some bacon (I needed some comfort food). So, I proceeded to explain my situation and how it would mean a lot if they could make an ecception and cook breakfast up for me. Danny, the manager came up, listed to my story, expressed his sympathies, and told me he would speak to the chef. About 20 minutes went by and just as I was ready to give up and ask to order something else, Danny walks up with my eggs, bacon, fingerlings and pancakes with a smile on his face telling me he hopes this helps a little bit. Hats off to you sir. Im still tired, Im still cranky, and im still 600 in the hole for what should have been a 200 flight, but my belly is full and im going to beard my flight and nap very well en route to Atl. Thanks so very much you've definitely helped make this morning a bit more bearable.

Connie O.

Yelp
Incredibly refreshing to have tasty healthy and very high quality food options. we ordered the kale salad with chicken and another delicious salad with steak, the proteins were delicious and the salads very fresh. Our server, Ny'Jae guided us to excellent menu selections and was very nice, courteous and helpful. This was a great experience during a layover of a long travel day. Also a nice open area, very refreshing ambiance!

Maureen T.

Yelp
Food was excellent and our server, Ny'Jae R was exceptional. We started out at a party of 3 and ended up as a party of 10 as our family arrived at the airport. Nj'Jae was very personable and a pleasure to have as a server.

Wyatt T.

Yelp
We just are here prior to our flight and had a great experience. Our server Ny Jae R was amazing and very attentive. She got our food quick, and it was exactly correct. Food was very good and service was amazing . Ty so much .....

Sagal N.

Yelp
I never leave a bad review but this experience was ridiculous. I choked on a purple piece of latex glove. The manager "Carlos" couldn't even be bothered to come over to me to apologize. When I asked for the manager he comes over and proceeds to say that "as a manager I have other things and other guests to worry about. " and that was the reason he didn't come over immediately. When I asked him if a guest choking on plastic is on the bottom of the todo list he tells me that he won't get into it with me about the semantics of what was in my food. As if it is NORMAL to have full pieces of rubber in your steak and eggs. Half of us in the airport are looking for a quick bite before a flight, not looking to consume foreign objects. Managements response to the entire situation was ridiculous and not one of a manager. Will never be back.

My C.

Yelp
This is probably the best breakfast restaurant I ever went to. Shy's service was GREAT. The breakfast sandwiche was super supper yummy . Italian Breakfast Sandwich was really good and very tasty

Adriana W.

Yelp
I just tried to get into this place because my flight got delayed the host that do the seating a guy and a girl were very disrespectful I asked us the bar full they said yes totally understandable but I walked around to see if even there were open seating for one person I asked the young girl at the front once agin with the braids and I asked her hey I just want to get food is there any way I can just sit at one of these open chairs they totally dismissed me I don't have anything against the restaurant it looks awesome but the host they have in the front including the guy man it would have been nice if they had a better attitude instead of just wisking me away I never been treated like that inside the airport ima just leave it at maybe they both we're having a bad day still no excuse though when I asked to be seated they both looked at me like I was talking to a wall man they young kids need to have better customer service skills

Nicole T.

Yelp
Ny'Jae was amazing! She is so attentive and sweet! She made our stop at this place so much more enjoyable!! She's wonderful!

Deanna S.

Yelp
Ny'Jae was our server and she couldn't be sweeter or have more hustle! it is very rare nowadays to see people move quickly and care about the service they are providing!!!! what a beautiful woman with beautiful qualities!!

Maggie O.

Yelp
Food was recommended by the server Ny Jae and the recommendation was spot on. DELICIOUS!! Also, I love whiskey manhattans and the bartender made one of the best, I actually had two which I rarely do. If you are at Newark, New Jersey Airport, this is the place to eat.

Wendy F.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was even better! The staff is so welcoming and nice! The venue is very pretty and very green and zen! I would definitely come back! Nyaje is amazing server!!!

Lynn A.

Yelp
So good! Doesn't feel like it's in an airport at all! . Wine list is pretty good but the food...yum!
