KitTea, San Francisco’s Only Cat Cafe, Is Just Trying to Hang On - Eater SF

"KitTea Cafe, a unique cat cafe in San Francisco's Hayes Valley, has been serving pastries, tea, and providing cat cuddles since 2015. Due to the pandemic, it is currently closed, with many of its adoptable cats moved to foster homes. Despite facing financial difficulties and not receiving federal loans, community support through GoFundMe has helped sustain the business. The cafe, known for its stringent sanitation protocols, is prepared to reopen with even stricter measures to ensure safety for both human and feline visitors." - Eve Batey

We happen to be in San Francisco and my daughter really wanted to go to a cat cafe. We decided to check this place out. It's located in the mission District, which is an extremely busy and popular area of San Francisco. If you're driving, be prepared to take a while to find parking. The place is cute and clean. You get a free complimentary drink/ hot tea when you're done. They have a lot of cats. It's very popular and typically there is a weight. We were able to get right in. I think that this place is reasonably priced as well. They have adoptable cats And a cute little gift shop area as well.

Although we were only in San Francisco for a day and a half, my son insisted we visit some cats. The cats were very friendly and playful. The space was clean, and smelled good. The cost was a little more than I expected, but the free drink was nice!

Google
The cats are well socialized and adorable. One of them even jumped on my lap and settled for a cuddle when I sat down. 1 hour flies by fast before you realize it! Although it would be better if they had wood/tile flooring instead of just concrete, given the guests need to take their shoes off, it’s not comfortable to walk on concrete floors.

2025 Update: Another year, another glorious hour surrounded by sweet kitties! Got an extra hour to kill in San Francisco? Make your reservation!! Previous post: My serotonin levels got a lovely reset by simply spending an hour in a room of kitties. If you share your life with a kitty, you know kitties sleep a lot. So there are sweet sleeping kitties to pet. So many! Some are super social and climb into laps. One even hoped into our shoulders! Others want to play. Some wander around and check out towers and baskets and scratchers. It's wonderful. It's clean! The cats are very well taken care of. Leaving your shoes outside of the cat area help keep it clean! Not my first visit and not my last. We love it here!

This place is a great cat cafe. Quality airflow keeps it smelling good and they use litter box robots that auto clean after each use and trap the waste. They have adorable cats 🐈 🐈‍⬛ of all ages. They have a cat there that’s one of the biggest cats I’ve seen in person. They have Sonos speakers playing nice music. They have an egg chair hanging from the ceiling which is fun to sit and rotate or swing while watching the cats run around and chase the toys. The restroom has quality soap, paper products and a heated seat bidet. 10/10 will return

Everyone here is genuinely awesome. I remember meeting Keke, a calico who I was first intimidated by since she tends to swat when touched. But it’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s just a boundary of hers :) however you can win her over by toys! She loves to play, loves company, she just has her own boundaries JUST like every other living being. L I hope she’s doing okay, and I hope she finds or has found her forever home! ❤️❤️

Atmosphere: everything was super clean, and there were tons of places to sit for humans and cats. Overall the place looked better than my own house and was just super nice. Everything was also lit very nicely, not too dark not too bright. Service: The employees were super helpful and kind, they were always there to answer any questions you might have which really elevated the bonding time with the cats. Experience: The cats as you probably guessed were super cute and let me tell you there was no shortage of them. Everywhere you looked there would be a cat, even in the bathroom.

Google
Cozy Atmosphere, super kind staff, and a buttload of kitties to enjoy. It is more of a lounge than a cafe, as mentioned in its Name. You may bring in your own food and drinks; and choose between an array of seating surrounded by cats. The cats are adoptable and there is a gift shop which supports Local Artists. Would come back

Yelp
Second time coming back to KitTea and I had a great experience again! KitTea allows you to do visits from 30 minutes up to 2 hours or more. I made a reservation online the day prior in case the lounge was going to be busy. I came with a friend and the staff provided us with an informative video before heading inside to play with the cats along with a complimentary canned beverage. You're welcomed to bring your own food and drinks but just make sure to keep an eye out for it. You don't want the cats to accidentally get into your food! All the cats here were really friendly and playful. There were a few that were really shy and took some time for them to warm up. I believe most of these cats were up for adoption. If you are interested the staff can provide you with all the information you need on the whole process. I'm a huge cat person so I loved every second I was there. I got lucky that one was extra friendly towards me and hung out with me for over 20 mins. If you're looking to destress, or interested in adopting these babies definitely come check out KitTea! I will be visiting again!

Yelp
It's on Valencia, but parking didn't seem that bad. I finally had the chance to go. Their hours never seemed to work for me, as I prefer much earlier hours on the weekdays. Staff were friendly and kind. we had a choice of tea, with no pressure to adopt. The room was quite small and there were about 8-10 cats there. I think there were about 7 people in the room, and a lot of the cats were hiding or sleeping. A few played. But it was enjoyable and relaxing. One of the benches to sit has a litter box under and I was sitting on it. Many would excuse themselves there, under me, though there were the larger electronic ones lining a wall.

Yelp
KiTea is our go-to spot whenever we need to de-stress, and it never disappoints. The calm, quiet atmosphere and the adorable cats make it such a soothing escape from the hustle of daily life. It's never overly crowded, which adds to the relaxing vibe. Each guest gets a complimentary drink during their visit, which is a nice touch. You also have the option to book a 30- or 60-minute visit, making it easy to fit into your schedule. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and keeps the space clean. The cats are beautiful and so fun to be around, though their activity levels can vary depending on the time of day. We usually visit right when they open, and the cats are more playful then. On one occasion, we went later in the day, and most of the kitties were tired and napping--which is understandable but something to keep in mind. One great feature is having a cat specialist on hand to answer any questions about the cats or the adoption process. It's a wonderful place for both cat lovers and anyone looking for a stress-free, cozy experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Went with my daughter to KitTea Cat Cafe in the Mission. We've been to a few cat cafes over the years, including a few in Japan. We had been offered a credit at KitTea a while back. Although there was some confusion when we reached out to redeem our credit, because time had passed since we had been told our credit would be "tracked" in the system, we experienced unreturned phone calls and emails over a few weeks, and an employee who told us she was too busy to help us by phone. We assume they were researching the issue, but I recommend getting documentation if you are offered any credit. Ultimately our shop credit was honored. We enjoyed a holiday viewing of the Muppet Christmas Carol and time with adoptable cats and other cat lovers. The cat area is clean and orderly, with a modern loft feel. Food and beverage is limited to just hot tea or sparking water (various flavors.) They do allow food and drink from outside, so we came prepared with our Mission burritos and aqua frescas. There are some retail offerings in the front of the store, and the cat play area is full of toys, cat beds & play areas. Overall, a good alternative holiday experience with friendly staff and low key kitties. Be sure bring in outside food. This is less a cafe (only tea and water) and more a cat-friendly play & adoption environment.

Yelp
After work one day I stopped by to destress. I really like that they let you choose a free drink, you can get a nice cup of tea or a soda. The room is not super huge but I like that they have a separate area for the cats' bathroom with a lot of litter robot and that the cats can remove themselves from the stress and interaction if they choose to by going to the back area. It's also a really nicely decorated space so all the kitties can have their own area. All the kitties are so cute and some make you want to bring them home

Yelp
My fiancé and I had a great experience at this cat lounge. When we entered, Heatherina greeted us warmly and let us check in 15 mins before our reservation. Everyone gets a free drink from the fridge (various sparkling waters) or a cup of hot jasmine tea. This place also offers stamps cards and after the 6th visit, your next one is free. Just a heads up that you have to remove your shoes to enter the cat lounge. There were a lot of cats all around the room and none of them seemed particularly grumpy. I had a bad experience in the past so I was a little nervous, but they all reacted positively when we were playing with them. I liked that there were a lot of different toys and furniture for the cats and us to use. The lounge was clean and while it smelled a little like cat litter (expected so not a huge issue), the bathroom didn't smell like that at all. There was an air purifier in there and it was definitely doing its job. When we checked out, Heatherina surprised me with a birthday card! I thought that was such a sweet gesture and made the experience even more special. They also have a variety of merch in the front. I ended up with 2 cat blind boxes lol. We'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
AMEOWzing experience. Made reservations for 1:00 PM on a Monday (opening time; they opened right at one). They have a super cute gift shop in the front, cubbies for shoes, and hooks for any bags/jackets. You get a complimentary cold canned beverage or hot green tea. After watching a short video, we got to see the kitties. It was so much fun! All the cats are super sweet and some are very playful. Only a few were sleeping. There are several shoulder kitties who might get up on your shoulder after some pets. There are also several lap kitties. Coming here was like being at a spa or the perfect dose of antidepressants/antianxiety medications. They have frequent flier cards so after 6 visits, you get a free visit. I will be back.

Yelp
Had a really nice walk in experience. There was availability and I was soon spending time with cats. Really friendly staff
google avatar

Yelp
They only let a certain number of people in at a time- which is great. You can't pick up the cats or hold them. That part is kind of a drag. They must get a lot of attention and stimulation because they weren't very playful and many just kinda stayed in their boxes or under the chairs. It was extremely clean and despite all the cats in a relatively small space, it didn't smell bad. It was fun and we enjoyed it, but I don't think it's something we need to repeat. The staff was very nice and they gave my daughter a beautiful birthday card.

Yelp
Loved spending time with all the sweet kitties! A friend I went with ended up falling in love and adopting one as well. Great quality merchandise too

Yelp
Very nice spot for cat cafe. Been there 4-5 times already and every time has been amazing. It's very therapeutic to enjoy the free drinks and pet the cats. ‍ They always have a few new kittens too!

Yelp
I swung by on a Saturday afternoon to visit KitTea and to see some furry friends. Apparently around 1pm isn't the best time to go, they have usually just had their lunch and are taking a cat nap. So the cats you see won't be super active. It's a small but cozy area with a lot of character. Before entering, you have to take off your shoes and they will allow you to have one beverage included with your ticket. There's a staff member at the door who will explain the rules and what's expected before you enter. Cute experience! Wish the cats were more playful, but it was just bad timing (nap time). I had a good time though! I liked that there were a lot of toys available for guests to use to play with the cats. They offer a free drink with your ticket and they have a variety of drinks from flavored bubbly water to fruit juice. I really enjoyed my experience here, and I really like the shop at the entrance. Everything sold is literally cat themed! Super cool! Would definitely recommend to any crazy cat lovers!

Yelp
loved visiting the residence cats. We had a great time there and the staff was super helpful.

Yelp
My sister wanted to go for her birthday. Many people say it's crazy to pay $28/person to pet cats for an hour. I understand that they are trying to ensure cats can get adopted and have a safe space to live and interact in the mean time. Paul was very welcoming, kind, and informative and the cats were all very sweet and docile. It made my sister's day.

Yelp
My daughter wanted to come in here and just play with the cats and relax and she truly loved it! What a wonderful place to be for all the cat lovers!!! The young lady at the front desk was so sweet and polite and made us feel welcome. Will definitely be back next time we're in town!

Yelp
My family is all about cats, we foster and we have adopted and want to do everything to help protect any stray or abandoned ones. So during our trip to San Francisco we decided to visit Cat cafe and picked up Kittea. Loved our experience here, the owners are doing a great job helping and saving strays by taking care of them, feeding them and providing them the shelter until some of them are adopted. Few observations about the feeding - I noticed that they feed wet food to the cat three times a day, would recommend switching to dry food as it's supposed to be better. - they should increase the frequency of the feed as not all the cats were getting to eat due to some big cats taking over and saw of them being very hungry, the way they jumped on the food. Overall these guys are doing a great job and I would request all the cat lovers to go visit and support them so that they can continue with the awesome work they are doing. Also, if you can or looking to adopt, they have cats (one with collars) that are up for adoption! Get a kitty for the upcoming. Holiday season, they turn our to be a great addition to the family!

Yelp
My review is their 999 review! Irrelevant I know but fun for me I guess. I used to go to KitTea when it was located in Hayes Valley. They have since closed that location. You can make an appointment and spend some time here to pet cats and drink tea. You can even adopt a cat from here if the chemistry and conditions are right. On this particular visit, my friend and I were just passing through on our way to our "thrift crawl" so we only visited the gift shop. I brought some Pusheen stickers and we had a nice chat with one of the staff. Ambiance - friendly, chill, and fun.

Yelp
Imma start this review off by stating I am unequivocally a dog person. That said, I've been wanting to come to KitTea for at least five years now. Today I finally got the chance! :3 I came with my fiancé and his niece, a bona fide cat lover, and we had such a wonderful time. We were in the first group of the day (I wouldn't come without making reservations), and based on the feedback from other reviews and our own experience today, I'd recommend that other folks try to get in the first group of the day or at least one of the earlier groups as that's when the cats are the most awake and engaged. I felt special for a second because I was the first person a cat decided to hop on and chill in my lap. You see, even though I'm a dog person, I secretly crave cat's approval (and don't think they don't know it- they do, and that's one of the many reasons why I prefer dogs). The cats were super cute and seemed happy. There was one male cat I named "CatDog" (because he approached the other cats like a dog) who kept trying to instigate fights, but the cat wrangler intervened every time. The space is aesthetically pleasing and very Instagramable. The host was friendly and informative- she did a wonderful job. I love that some of the cats are up for adoption. That made me feel like the tickets- which aren't cheap, were worth it. I told my fiancé and niece within the first 5 minutes that the hour would feel like it went by quickly, and it sure did. My fiancé's niece said she'd figured out her birthday plans for the next five years- high praise from a teenager! Seeing how happy KitTea made her was the best part of the experience; it truly made my day. I hope to return with other friends and family members, as events like mewvie night seem like they could be really fun.

Yelp
I think up until recently they no longer operate as a "cafe" which is kind of a bummer so instead they offer complimentary drinks and lounge around with the cats. We came around after a late lunch so it was around 4pm. We walked in and they had an opening for us but seems like you can also make reservations online to ensure a spot for the time you wanna come in. We came during a sleepy time, most cats were asleep but a few came around to get petted or played for a bit. Don't come expecting the cats to "entertain" you or be up to playing most of the time. I'm sure they get overwhelmed with the influx of visitors they see daily. I enjoyed it but I think once you remove the cafe aspect of it, you shift a lot of the focus to the cats and if the cats aren't up for pets or getting to know you then I can understand how some people can be underwhelmed. At the end of the day this an immersive adoption center. Think of this place as a way to decompress and relax instead of anything else you might've had in mind :)

Yelp
Great experience, the staff were informative and it was a calm space to be with the cats. It's also cool that they have a little shop in the front

Yelp
What an adorable & fun little addition to the once very vibrant & colourful Mission district. The lady at the counter was so warm & welcoming and the young gentleman who guided our kids through the visit was the loveliest. Needless to say, we'll be back!

Yelp
Best cat cafe I've ever visited so far! I loved everything about this place. The staff were so sweet and attentive, the cats were so chill and adorable, and on top of that, the vibes were just really wholesome. I can't wait to visit again!!!!!

Yelp
My friend and I had a Purrfect visit on a lovely afternoon. I had gifted her this outing as a holiday gift. The staff and kitties were all so very nice and friendly. And yes, we had tea! There is also a little gift store in the front reception area which carries such cute cat-themed items (we bought fun hair ties, a note pad and a kitty toy for my cat at home). Am set to return with another friend for which is her holiday gift as well.

Rawan E.

Yelp
This is my favorite cat cafe in the Bay Area. The staff are friendly and informative. Cats are friendly the shy ones won't bother the others will come out and play. They give you a free drink on your out and you can shop in their little gift shop outside of the cat room. The place is clean and does not smell one bit. Overall the cats here are so lucky to have the love and affection they deserve. You can tell they feel at home here. Recommend it with your kids and a nice date idea.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute concept, and great gift shop. It's $28 to enter the area with the cats, so it's good for someone who lives in a studio apartment, travels alot, or has a partner whose allergic to cats. Lots of other things to do on that same block: thrift shop for clothes, patronize a delicious-making bakery co-op.

Yelp
First of all wow!! This place made my heart soo happy and full My boyfriend came from New York and brought me here because he knows my love for cats. Had a rough mornings but this place turned things around for me, the cats here are really friendly sweet and amazing! I feel happy and healed, thank you Kittea! Me and my bf are now thinking about going back to adopt one of the cats there If I could i would give KitTea 100 starts! Thank you!!

Yelp
We visited Kittea on a Monday afternoon right when they opened at 1. Due to our lack of planning, we could not get a reservation, but we got there about 5 minutes before they opened to see if there were walk in spots, and we luckily got the last two! I would definitely recommend going as soon as they open if you also could not get a reservation, since they tell you about all the available times during the rest of the day if you cannot get in at that time. It also seemed to be a good time to go as the cats were pretty active and friendly when they opened! You also get a free prepackaged drink with your ticket, which ranges from apple juice, to matcha drinks, to sparkling juices and waters. I am looking forward to coming back to see the cats again!
google avatar

Meera S.

Yelp
The concept is cute, but I personally believe it could have been executed better. As a person that works with cats and dogs, I've noticed that these cats are over-petted, tired, and uninterested. Our appointment was at 12 pm, so I understand how many of the cats were taking their famous cat naps. Totally understandable. The kittens were alert though, and I feel like the group that had the same appointment time as ours were hogging them and the entire area they were in. When one of the kittens finally came towards me, I was guiding it to come towards my friend and I. One of the male workers said "if the cat wants to go, let them go please." The guy didn't say anything rude, but the tone of voice was very passive aggressive and that just ticked me off for the rest of the visit. The cat had room to leave if it wanted to and that comment of his was unnecessary. One of the rules of this cafe is we can't pick up the cats. I understand as picking up cats can lead to unwanted injuries on both the cat and human side. But it's really hard when your sitting waiting for a cat to come to you and none do. I felt bored most of the visit. I petted some cats that were laying down, but many eventually fell asleep and I didn't want to disturb them. And as I mentioned before, I feel like one particular group of people were hogging an entire area of cats, so there wasn't much to do. I'm a huge cat person, so I was disappointed that I didn't really get a chance to interact with them. A couple of things I liked about this experience were the complementary drink that was included in the visit. They have a range of drinks available from cold coffee, chocolate milk and juice. All in cans or pouched packaging. My friends and I also arrived about 10 minutes late to our 12 pm appointment, and the receptionist was nice enough to give us additional 10 minutes past our hour time slot! That was very sweet of her to do and I appreciate kindness like that. I personally believe that the cafe should allow cats to rest from human interaction. Cats are like humans. They can get overstimulated if human interaction is back to back and every single day. And maybe offer customers with a couple cat treats to get the cats to come to them. All in all, the experience was okay. I get my "cat fix" from my job, so I definitely wouldn't come back here again. I also personally believe you can get a better experience at shelters because cats aren't as visited as the cats in the cafe. But I will say, this cafe is a fun concept and I'm glad I got the chance try it.
google avatar

Shannon O.

Yelp
Everyone working there was super nice and really loved the cats. And I appreciated how the rules/guidelines ensure the cats are respected and free to roam without being forced to play. All the rescue kitties were so precious.
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
We love visiting cat cafes and this one was one of our faves. It was definitely the most expensive one we've been to. You reserve online and get an hour to lounge around. There are complimentary beverages but they recommended not to bring in food you wouldn't eat immediately. Bring socks because this is a shoe-free zone! These cats were so cute. Literally never been to a lounge with so many unique kitties. They also actually seem really happy to be there. You can tell they're being well cared for and loved.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The thought behind this is a good one, but the experience was pretty underwhelming and the tickets are expensive for what you get. The space is on the small side and there were a lot of people in our time slot. They fed the cats right before we went in so most of them were sleeping. There isn't a feeding schedule on the website so it was difficult to pick a time slot that would have allowed us to play with active kitties. The refreshment selection was limited and there was no tea. The employees were pretty nice and the cats seemed to love them. Some of the cats are up for adoption and some are permanent residents. All the cats were friendly and they let you know if they didn't want to be touched.

Rachel D.

Yelp
It's such a bizarre set up. I would not go back. I reserved in advance and the tickets were $28 dollars. Also, while booking they force you to put in a tip. It's egregious and outrageous to ask for a tip during self service check out and a service that was not received yet. (It does not ask for a donation for the cats. It is clearly a "tip") When we got to the place other guests walked in and were quoted a price of $14. Which is not OK!!!! I confirm this with the walk-in guest. The cats don't have enough space to play with the toys provided. Upon leaving you are pressured into signing up for repeat customer program to get a discount on future visits. I'm not coming back. BTW there is not food. This is not a cafe

Hernan S.

Yelp
I am conflicted about this place. I went there with the idea of adopting a kitten. I've decided to take a beautiful tabby that's been in the store for 6 MONTHS. Not so easy! I first had to go through a process. The first thing that the employee said was "we need to make sure your landlord is OK with this" - Me: But I own, I don't have a landlord!!!! IT DIDN'T MATTER A THING "you still have to go through the process and it's only. Besides, there are other candidates interested" !!!!!! If there are other candidates, why is this cat stuck in this tiniest store for 6 FULL MONTHS without a single adoption????? The other item that caught my attention is the cat sleeping on the afternoon with all the action around her. Something is up and it doesn't look normal. I've had cats for many decades and this brings suspicions. My advice to the owners is to not milk the money away from cats for so many months. Let them go after a couple of months, for God's sake.
google avatar

Apit L.

Yelp
Nice place to visit but a bit expensive for a 30min visit. Love interacting with the cats. And best of all, the cats are adoptable. Some are VERY friendly (especially the black half blind one). If I didn't already have girls of my own, I'd adopt her. Friendly staff.

Yelp
The cats were adorable but clearly overwhelmed by the amount of attention they received from all the people coming through, and I was only in the second shift of people for the day at 11am on a Sunday. I was also disappointed because despite being marketed as a cat cafe, the only drinks they had were a limited selection of cold, sparkling drinks. I did try an interesting elderflower grapefruit sparkling water, but as someone who normally doesn't prefer sparkling water/juices, I wish they'd had other options. The space is set up well - there's a small merch space at the front of the shop, then they have the cat play area behind closed doors and windows at the back of the shop. They do have restrooms connected to the play area. We came in late, so I was glad we were still able to join the cats for the remainder of our hour. We had to take off our shoes (they have cubbies set aside for this), sanitize our hands, and watch a short orientation video before entering the play area. There were about 10-12 total people in the area, as an estimate, and about 10-12 cats, most of which were sleeping or pretending to sleep in order to get some peace and quiet. Most of the cats stayed sleeping while we went around petting them. They were cute but clearly overstimulated by all the petting. A couple of the cats even swatted me when I slowly reached out to them. While it was great to be able to see all these cats (they even have adoptions available), I left feeling guilty and sad that the cats couldn't get more space. The moment our group left the play area, many of the cats that were sleeping/hiding perked up and started to run around. I think if there had been more of a rotation of cats between shifts, it would have helped with the cats' relaxation. To be honest, if you want to help socialize cats and get to pet them for a lot cheaper, visit shelters or try volunteering. I do think it's great that these cats have opportunities to be exposed to so many potential adopters, but they clearly needed a break.

Yelp
best cat cafe I've been to by far, there were so many sweet adorable cats to play with! I've been to other cat cafes where the cats seem very stressed and the cafe allow way too many visitors at once, but when we went it was a reasonable amount of people to cats which was was great for both the people and the cats. Also, love the concept of a movie night with the cats, gave us so much time to spend with the cats!

Yelp
Loved the fact that they give complimentary drinks here! We only came for the cats, but I was indeed dying of thirst. Very unique selection too! I redacted some stars for a couple of reasons - one being the long haired cats seemed slightly neglected. Their behinds were not clean and they were fairly matted. It's hard to care for longhairs, I understand. Otherwise, they are respectful of the kitties and have a great selection of gifts. We came in at open so the cats weren't quite exuberant (leave for one that climbed on me), but still seemed pretty okay with us. I love that you're not allowed to pick them up and just in general they maintain a certain degree of genuine respect & care for the cats, from both the employees and customers. I think they were still overwhelmed. There wasn't a lot of space and they were hiding in the limited areas they had. Hence another star gone.

Yelp
Nice little cafe/lounge where you get to play and just watch cats. It's for a good cause and the cats are playful and it's pretty nice for kids. A bit on the pricy side, but hey, they take good care of those cats.

Yelp
I would like to say that Japan is the first country to introduce the world to themed cafes for the enthusiastic in a plethora of avenues. I say this because you can find themes cafes ranging from vampires to girls dressed as French maids. It is definitely a plus to have a pet themed cafe here in the San Francisco metropolis. This is my second visit to a cat cafe; the first being in Tokyo's colorful Harajuku district. Location: on 24th and Valencia. I was with my friend, who is a cat devotee and mentioned wanting to visit KitTea and we happened to be within distance and so I thought; sure - why not. Comparison: I have to say that KitTea highlights the best of being themed after cats; all of the cats were tame, well trained, and loves the human touch. Whereas, while the cat cafe I visited in Tokyo where the cats were adorable and beautiful; we were not allowed to pet or touch them, not to mention that they wanted no part in any human interaction. I was stunned and surprised at the same time how the cats at KitTea allowed me to touch them very gently and jump would onto my back. Just wow! The Staff: the receptionist was very courteous during our entire visit. The staff member handling the cats in the inner room was very knowledgeable and can name each of the cats as there were many. Price is $13 for a half hour and $25 for a whole hour. You have the option to order drinks in the inner room, and you'll receive a canned drink upon checking out. The Experience: now granted I'm not a cat person, and I don't think my household would get a cat; going to a cat cafe, and in this case KitTea; I get to experience bring with cats. I had so much fun seeing and being in the presence of adult cats and kittens. It was a purrrfect day.

Yelp
I have been to Kittea on multiple occasions and have nothing but positive things to say! The staff are so kind and attentive and there are fun cats to meet that are both residents and ones up for adoption. During one of my visits, resident cat Noodle gave me the honor of jumping onto my back which was made all the more special because of the fact that he shares the same name as my beloved cat who left us all too soon. In addition to getting to pet the cats, the entry fee also comes with a complimentary drink which is a nice touch

Yelp
To start off this review. I've been here a good amount of times. The current location and the previous location in the city. Pros: This place is an amazing place to spend an hour when you're looking to pet some cats. Especially if you can't adopt for now you'll get some experience being around a cat. This is the perfect place increase your dopamine levels if you love cats. This place always a good vibe not just the aesthetic, but also the chill music that is always played. Cons: This new location doesn't have a cafe anymore and also they don't really serve tea anymore, which I was disappointed about, but I love this place regardless. They changed the tea to a drink fridge with many different drink options, which was good. I would say the prices ($28/hr) and it may deter others, but I think it's justified. With the cost of being in SF and also with what's going on in the world in general. Overall I think this place is worth a try or two if you really want to just hang around cats and show some love. Maybe youll even be a card forever home if you find a cat you can't leave without. If you love cats and you can't have one right now this is the place for you.

Yelp
The cats all seemed really tired and we got there pretty early like around 2pm. The staff is friendly and the place is alright in cleanliness, but the only food they offer is a can of pop.

Yelp
Omg this place was the best. We booked for 12:00-1:00pm on a Saturday, costing $28.00 per person. The check in was so easy and the workers were so nice and very informative. All the kitties were awake and so friendly. I've never been to a cat cafe but I had a great first experience at this place. && I even bought some kitty cat socks for $10.00.

Yelp
I loved being there and I would totally go back it's just the video at the beginning was hard to put to memory and I was afraid I was going to do something wrong. I highly recommend this Kitty Cafe to any cat lovers out there. It was soothing and fun and very out of the ordinary.

Yelp
The host was incredibly nice and the place was overall very cozy. It also came with refreshments and best of all, the cats were so incredibly cute. They all did let you pet and play with them to some degree, just be sure to let them smell you out first.

Yelp
Could be worth a visit if you walk in with the expectation that depending on the time/day, the cats may not be very interactive at all. I came here yesterday at 1pm and only one cat was really interested in playing (and of course, it was difficult to get alone time with this cat since all the other guests gravitated towards him as well). The rest slept or walked around with no interest in interacting with visitors. This translated to a lot of watching and petting sleeping cats. The area itself is quite spacious and well-kept; the cats seemed healthy and well-cared for. As other reviewers have mentioned, the current "cafe" situation is that you are given one free drink of your choice (sparkling water, teas) from the fridge, but there is otherwise no option to order beverages/food items. Overall, I do not think I'd visit again - a lot of $ to pay to sit and watch cats. However, I'm not going to penalize KitTea for factors out of their control and again, the cats seemed well-taken care of. My final recommendation is to please make reservations online ahead of time! In the hour I was there, there were at least 3-4 walk-in guests who were turned away as the earliest opening they had wasn't until late afternoon!

Yelp
Stumbled a pon this place while wandering around san fran. It was busy at the time so we didn't go in. This time it wasn't too busy so we got in for a half hour session with the cats! It was such a cool experience and really brightened my rough starting day. 3 of the long haired cats really seemed to like me and 2 of them sat on my lap. On stayed for most of my session and napped on my lap. I wish I could've adopted it but couldn't in my current situation. The owner was so nice as well. Amazing service, really sweet employees, and best of all sweet cats! 100/10 recommend for anyone who wants to spend part of their day with some friendly cats, and especially recommend for people who want a cat but can't and want to bond with some cats! ‍

Yelp
I was so excited to bring my bestie to Kittea and it was fantastic... in theory. In practice, paying ~30 dollars to be ignored by cats is not worth it. My main critique which my friend and other Yelp reviews have pointed out is that the cats seem disinterested, probably due to overstimulation. There are a lot of cats and a lot of people cramped into the small cafe space. Of the ~14 cats present, 2 were mildly interested in playing, but none were interested in being pet. Some of the cats tolerated petting, but multiple participants during the hour-long reservation were scratched. I don't blame the cats, and I understand there is only so much within the cat attendant's control. However, I think fewer people per reservation, less reservations per day, or more breaks for the cats could create an environment that better suits both the visitors and the cats themselves. Additionally, the tea experience needs to be improved. I had a canned sparkling water and my friend drank a canned boba. It's nice that they provided one complimentary drink per person, but it wasn't what I would expect from a cat cafe. Overall, KitTea could improve on both the cat and cafe aspects. After my visit, I would be quicker to visit my friends who own cats OR if I was desperate enough, I might sign up to volunteer at a local animal shelter.

Yelp
Kittea is an enjoyable first experience at a cat cafe, because you are surrounded by droves of cute cats and paying for a great cause! However, this review is comparing Kittea to other cat cafe experiences in LA and SF including Crumbs & Whiskers and the old Kittea Cafe in Hayes Valley. This Mission District location unfortunately fell short of expectations. When our group arrived at 2pm, the cats were almost all sleeping and didn't want to be disturbed. The ones that were awake didn't want to be pet and avoided people. Obviously we respected the cats and gave them their space, but it was a bummer to just watch them for an hour and not get the chance to play with them. At other cat cafes I've attended, the staff have helped you engage with the cats by handing you toys, placing cats in beds directly on your lap, and even taking pictures for you. There was no type of facilitation like this at Kittea so the majority of us just sat and watched the cats. It was definitely a let down from the expectation that the cats would want to play with you, lay on your lap, climb on your back, or even be interested in approaching you. A nice touch is that you can select a complimentary sparkling water beverage from the fridge before or after your visit. However, comparing this to other cat cafes, this was also ultimately a let down since the "cafe element" was only a fridge. You are not able to order food, pastries, drinks, or coffees. The staff were very friendly, kind people and the entrance of the business also doubles as a cute gift shop area, separating the entrance from the cat lounge. So if you don't have reservations for a cat hangout I would still recommend checking out this spot if you wanted to browse or buy gifts for any cat lovers in your life. Lastly, I was extremely surprised by the intensely strong stink from the litter boxes. Immediately when entering Kittea you are hit with a stench that continues to get worse as you venture further in. I'm not sure how they mask the smell at the other cat cafes, but it got so overwhelming at the end of our stay that I wanted to leave. Overall, because we got to pet and spend time with these lovely cats, of course it was a nice experience. But I was left with a feeling of disappointment after spending $30/each on multiple tickets bringing my friends here, since they were barely able to play or cuddle with the cats.
