Ann Arbor’s Best Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"Owned and run by the Knight family since 1984, this steakhouse is an Ann Arbor classic. It’s old-school Midwestern all the way and often packed — particularly the night before a game day. Good bets include steaks (filet mignon, New York strip, and the 22-ounce “Cowboy Steak”), a French onion soup that stands up to any Parisian bistro version, and a generously poured Manhattan. (Note: Knight’s Steakhouse Downtown, opened 30 years after the original Knight’s, has a similar menu but a more modern vibe, including comfy white leather seats that pull up to a massive, horseshoe-shaped bar.) Reservations can be booked on Resy." - Mary Hayes Weier

I’ve never had a bad experience at Knight’s. Food is always fantastic (steaks always cooked correctly) the drinks are very big, and the service is always fast and friendly. It can be a bit loud during dinner but that’s because it’s always packed. If you’re visiting from out of town or even local like me, I’d highly recommend this place.

This is now my new go to place in Ann Arbor. Wife wanted steak and I was up for that but when I saw Calves Liver and Onion with bacon, I just had to get it. By far the best I've ever had. It just melts in your mouth. Then we saw the deserts being brought out and we will definitely be getting those next time.

Google
Food was great, I mean it, excellently cooked, seasoned well, tasted great. Drink was strong and filled to top, zero complaints about the food. Service was outstanding. Finch was our server and he was unbelievably great. The star deducted for the weird combo of plastic serving dishes and table layout. They’re clearly maxing out space for tables, but they have some jammed so close together next to the bathroom that you can’t even sit in your seat if someone is sitting at the adjacent table. Super weird for a place that serves $60/plate steaks. The line is out the door so they have no shortage of customers. Be prepared to sit close to the neighbor and expectation of a private celebratory dinner or business dinner is non-existent. I will be back, but I’ll make a more stringent reservation for a booth.

I understand the hype now… hands down the best steak I’ve had in the area. The staff are extremely friendly and kind. This is the perfect spot for any occasion - thank you!!

Google
Great old school steakhouse! It’s always a steady flow of diners and busy even during the weekday. We always get one of the steak options, which are cooked to perfection and not overly seasoned. Although this time I tried the walleye and it did not disappoint! We were here this time for a family event and had a reservation, so there was not really any wait time for us. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and fast.

Outstanding experience. Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive. The food was phenomenal - - as the steak was cooked perfectly. Great atmosphere. Priced correctly for premier service and quality of our meal.

I traveled from New York to Ann Arbor to visit a local friend who highly recommended this restaurant, saying it has been a family tradition since 1984. I was expecting a pleasant dining experience, but unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The server did not ask if we wanted bread or provide a detailed introduction to the daily specials when taking our order. I ordered soup, salad, an entrée, and a kids’ meal, but she didn’t ask if I wanted a drink. The food arrived in a disorganized manner—my soup came quickly, but there was no bread until I specifically requested it. The most frustrating part was that my salad and entrée were served together, while the kids’ meal was brought out last. When I questioned the order of service, the server simply said, “You didn’t ask for the dishes to be served separately.” A kids’ meal should be prioritized—this is basic dining etiquette. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the server gave a reluctant apology, saying it might have been a communication issue. Throughout the meal, she never brought us sharing plates. The most shocking part was that before we paid the bill, she sarcastically said, “I hope you had a great meal without a stupid waitress ruining your mood.” This comment was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. I sincerely hope this was not due to any bias or discrimination, but regardless of the intent, such an attitude is unacceptable in a restaurant with a 40-year history. I believe this is not the level of service the founders envisioned. I hope the management takes this issue seriously and improves staff training, as a strong reputation alone is not enough to retain customers.

Google
I like going here. The atmosphere is semi-private feeling without being a library. It's sort of a "cabin" or 70s upscale feel. First experience was fantastic. Like anything though, as expectations improve experience seems to drop off. It's possibly a perception problem. Please note that I am not saying it's bad. It's just that your mileage may vary. I think it m depends on what they are serving. I will go back. It's a nice treat. Expect to spend about $45/person before dessert and alcohol. If you go, get the dragon shrimp appetizer. Yum.

Yelp
We came here for a graduation celebratory dinner and there were six in our party. We had a reservation for 5pm but they were able to accommodate us a bit earlier- even though the place was packed. The exterior of the restaurant has a charming look to it. There is a parking lot with free parking, which is a great bonus anywhere near Ann Arbor. Upon entering the restaurant, the host staff were extremely friendly and greeted us promptly. The ambiance is somewhat dark and rustic and very comfortable. Even though it is an upscale restaurant, it is not at all stuffy. Since many graduates and their families were dining here, it was very busy and yet I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency. Our server was top notch and able to answer any questions about entrees. I wish I knew her name to give her a specific shout-out. I'm sure she provided her name upon introduction to the table but a couple of us had hung back outside before entering. If you like Scallops Rochester as an appetizer, I highly recommend it and so did everyone in our party. The scallops were perfectly prepared to be soft (not mushy) with spinach, garlic and a cheese sauce. Absolutely amazing! We had only ordered it as an appetizer for our table, but could have been a delicious meal. Everything ran like clockwork and our salads and soups arrived promptly after we'd finished with appetizers. (Calamari was also a table appetizer but I didn't try it because it isn't my thing; though I noticed that it didn't go as quickly as those yummy scallops!) I ordered the gazpacho soup and it was very fresh and delicious. For my personal taste, it was a bit spicy, but I still enjoyed it. Someone in our party had the clam chowder soup and said it was delicious. One person ordered the lentil and sausage soup; he seemed neutral about it but there was a full cup of lentils- which I would have ordered except I didn't want sausage in it. Our entrees then arrived in perfect timing following soup and salad. I had ordered the primavera alfredo with chicken and requested light on the Alfredo sauce. Our server acknowledged that it was probably heavier on the sauce than I had ordered but I didn't make a fuss at our celebration. It was delicious with a very generous amount of chicken in addition to the delicious pasta and fresh vegetables. I ate out the chicken to get my protein and gave leftovers to someone else in our party. The generous dish begged to be eaten as leftovers. While too rich with cream for my taste, those leftovers weren't going to go to waste! Many others in our party ordered steak/prime rib and seemed very happy with their selections. Since I don't eat red meat, I was very pleased with my selection. Overall, I was so impressed by the efficient and friendly service as well as the quality of our food. Absolutely recommend this place if you'd like to splurge on a high quality meal within a comfortable environment. Definitely a first class dining experience! (Wish I had pictures of the food but we were busy taking graduation pictures, which made us too hungry! Haha!) Fabulous is the adjective that best describes our experience!

Yelp
- The servers are the best thing about Knights -- they are super friendly and knowledgeable. - The interior is old and dated (wood paneling, booths, and banquet hall type tables and chairs) - Clientele lacks diversity (skews old, white, male, republican) - Great drinks - strong pours, bartenders skilled at the classic cocktails! - The food is standard American food with a focus on protein (cuts of meat, fish, poultry). It's consistent in quality, which is nice, and reasonably priced. Every time I've been here, I've been asked to wait well past my reservation time. Last time I was here, I waited 45 minutes past my reservation time, and they told me it was going to be another 15-20 minutes, so we left. Unfortunately, given multiple experiences, I am left to believe that is a regular occurrence here, so we have been discouraged from coming more often. - If you want some place that has a (slightly) more updated feel, and a (slightly) younger crowd, Knight's Downtown fits that bill. Knight's consistency, but with a few different menu items, newer/brighter interior, and more experienced hosts (i.e. I've never been asked to wait 1 hour over my reservation time).

Yelp
So, just left here instead of waiting, because after asking for a booth and happily waiting, the staff decided to talk s--- about us, right in front of us. This was after waiting 30 extra minutes past reservation time. The poor quality food here does not justify bad service.

Gin C.

Yelp
A friend brought me over and we shared a cowboy steak! The portion was big and the steak so flavorful that it didn't need any sauces. I can see this place is a local favorite and still going strong after so many years. Highly recommended to try especially with the special of the day. The decor is a little dated but doesn't affect how the food tasted. The staff is fast and split the steak for us, which is much appreciated.

Yelp
Steaks and burgers are always a hit here. Everything else is basic; don't expect anything more. I'm not a local anymore so I might have been sitting on a regulars barstool. Ate at the bar with two buddies; got a neat Woodford which looked like a shorter end of a Dixie cup pour. Bartender wasn't very friendly so it soured my experience.

Yelp
Had a wedge salad with Salmon and a Bells beer on tap. Sis had the same with shrimp. Food was good. Service was average at best.

Yelp
My go to at Knight's is a french dip and a long island. Though, I've never been disappointed with anything I have ordered. They always have a great soup option and I look forward to the salad and rolls before my meal. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere here is a throwback, with wood paneling and comfy seating. You can tell there's a lot of history here!
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Knights is an always choice for us. We often get take out from here. Tonight I had a French dip and everything about it was perfect. I did a side of crispy fries. They're never really crispy enough for my liking, but they will be warmed up tomorrow in the oven and then they'll be crispy as I like. I also had a side salad with ranch. Soo good. Home made ranch. The hubby had a burger and potato skins. All was delicious.

Yelp
Knight's (lovingly referred to as "Old Knights") is not everyone's steakhouse. Or, maybe it is, but it's not the conventional steakhouse that your mind conjures in 2023. Here is my top 10 reasons to visit Knight's: 1) The drinks are strong. The "Knight's pour" is a thing. 2) Get the rolls. 3) From steaks to sandwiches, the food is old school, top notch, ultra-filling dining. 4) You won't find tweezered greens and garnishes here. Embrace it. 5) Order the special. I've never been disappointed. 6) You haven't been allowed to smoke in restaurants in ages, but the ambiance still gives the illusion of an old smoky bar/steakhouse. Maybe if you get close enough to the wall, you can still smell the smoke? 7) Sit at the bar. Meet the bartender. Talk to the regulars. You'll be happy you did. 8) I'm pretty sure that the majority of diners at noon are over 70. 9) The proximity to the adjacent fields is a big draw for softball teams pre and post game. 10) It tells me a lot about a restaurant if they offer cottage cheese as a side option. Yelp
Sarah J. Was our server and she made our anniversary dinner even sweeter. Plus, what a steak! Will be back on Friday for the clam chowder

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Nothing special but definitely filling and good portions. Sounds more fancy than it is.

Yelp
THE BEST CHOWDER IN ANN ARBOR! Compared even to places like Real Seafood Co., Knight's chowder was spectacular. Huge chunks of clams, with potatoes of slightly different sizes - it really gave a feel for being freshly made (I have no idea if it is). I would come back just for the powder alone! I've lived in A2 for over a decade, and this place still ranks high as a favorite of the locals. Came here on a Friday night with no reservation at 6pm, and was sat within 5 minutes. Any later, though, I'd advise a rez. Parking lot was almost completely full on arrival and when I left. The hostess was very kind, and sat me on the second level - kind of neat to watch the tables below. The restaurant looks like it hasn't been updated in decades and seems kind of old and stuffy, but I think that's what they're going for with the "knight's" theme. I ordered a chowder, followed by 6 oz prime rib with baked potato and vegetable. They had already run out of broccoli, so I received the asparagus instead. On presentation the entree seemed underwhelming, but cutting into the steak was PERFECT! I usually order medium, and this is one of the best steaks I've ever had! THIS is what Knight's is known for, and rightfully so! The potato was perfect, but the asparagus for scant and flimsy. I paired everything with a sangiovese mix - delicious! Service: The server was nice at first and the quickly seemed overwhelmed with larger tables. It took a pretty long to time for him to do an entree check - not good at a steakhouse - and forever to get the check - and when it finally came, no dessert offering or anything (and no notice of specials in the beginning either). I look forward to coming back but I really hope I get a different server.

Yelp
The kitchen and staff are perfectly seasoned professionals that deliver excellence. We are vegetarians, and never imagined that we would be satisfied to sit at a bar in a steakhouse. However, the ambience is the best of Ann Arbor. We also love being seated looking out the full wall windows at the people and history of the theatre district. LOVE speciality salads and grilled Brussels sprouts created by chef Chuck Bousha, and bean burgers are the BEST!!

Yelp

Yelp
Visiting my sister who lives here; party of six on a Friday night. Seated on the second floor (seemed a bit crowded with tables-but I understand). Service was great and we loved the atmosphere. The food was excellent! Two days later and my husband and I are still talking about how perfect our steaks were. The rolls were amazing! I'd say it was a great meal for all of us. I am counting on coming back when we visit! It is comforting to know that there are still classic restaurants like this around.

Scott B.

Yelp
Always great food your menu changes once in a while however, if you want something that was on their menu at one time they will fix it for you. Service doesn't get any better than that. They also have the best drinks. Sitting out on the deck when the weather is nice is great and the restaurant itself just kind of gives you a warm hug.

Kat O.

Yelp
Excellent food. Excellent service. My husband loved the chicken pot pie. I had steak that was also delicious.
google avatar

Brandon W.

Yelp
Wait staff was very nice and friendly. That being said the food absolutely sucks. Ordered a crispy chicken sandwich which from the description sounded good but in reality chicken was dry as hell with burnt bacon and black pepper seasoning that the idiot cook thinks is aoli sauce. If they mess up a fried chicken sandwich god only know about the steaks I have no confidence in the cooks abilities at all.

Yelp
The Knight family's restaurants and meat market sell only the best. I've been there dozens of times, and the level of quality and service never varies, always of the highest order. Get a dusted, blackened beef tenderloin, that's my recommendation. They'll bring you house-made, hot rolls and softened butter. That beef will melt in your mouth..... (a glass of red wine is called for too) OH, and start with French Onion Soup, a CLASSIC. It all started with Ray and Mary Knight in a little meat market, and their children and their families (Bedolla) have done them proud. Townies in Ann Arbor have known about the place for decades. You haven't been there ?
google avatar

S L.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. BUT.... We've been there twice post pandemic and every time our visit has been ruined by other patrons. 1) someone cussed out my husband because of their own parking job. We almost had called the police because they were so aggressive. 2) the table next to us was using foul language loudly and repeatedly. We asked them to stop using those words infront of our 3 and 5 year old and they then went nuts on us. We stopped going here because of these experiences. I've never had these issues other places.
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
One of the worst steaks I have ever had. The sirloin was super dry and stringy. My $57 cowboy ribeye was Terrible. Dry as a bone and near flavorless. The mashed potatoes were also terrible. Both the turkey and beef gravies were disgusting. $96 for a thoroughly disappointing meal that I couldn't even make myself finish. The only redeeming quality were the delicious rolls and the server was nice.

Jowella M.

Yelp
Service slow, unprofessional Food was just okay, not worth it. Texas Roadhouse or Outback quality, very disappointing. My strip steak thin and flavorless, dry. Potatoes straight up garlic cold and dry. 1st time diners that won't be back.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
If you like the vibe of an old fashion steak house, then this needs to be on your list. Great Steaks, Chops and Seafood, plus a variety of other menu items and specials. Knights has their own market so their meat is butchered and delivered to the restaurant daily. Great vibe, awesome staff friendly and helpful. Their clam chowder is amazing, best in Ann Arbor. Have never had a bad experience here in almost 20 years.
google avatar

Suzanne K.

Yelp
Amazing food. Nice clean family atmosphere. Great service every time. All the food is amazing. But they have the best French dip sandwich I have ever had.

Anne B.

Yelp
What a disappointment! Our server was very friendly and busy! Maybe they need more wait staff. The steak I ordered was not even warm and very tough, veggies were cool but the risotto was fine. Will not go back!

Tom J.

Yelp
Hostess who seated us was cold as ice. Service mediocre at best. Food was cold. Several Menu items not available. Been coming here for decades. Not anymore. Extremely disappointed. Won't be back.

Joan O.

Yelp
I am so disappointed. I've been a customer since 1985 and I have to say I'm never going to order take out again from Knights. The last 3 times have been horrible and a total waste of my money! It's nothing like the food served when you dine in. Good food if you eat at the restaurant, but don't expect the same quality for takeout. I just don't understand, what's going on there. Ambiance is just so so since the beginning, the only reason to go there is for food. Here's what I have gotten for takeout.... Dried up buns that I could have mistaken for croutons, cold burgers with wrong toppings, less meat on the French dips, Caesar salads without dressing and cold but burnt fries or onion rings. I had supported them during Covid and made sure I was there for them by ordering more often and always tipping all the staff well. The takeout food back the was great! But that's no longer true. Now every order temp is barely warm or cold, even though I get there promptly at the time I am told. It's obvious the orders are sitting on a shelf in the front by the hostess desk when I get there. Why tell me 15 minutes to pick up and then let It sit for 10? I live close to the restaurant and it's been a go to for take out and when anyone visits it's where we go to dine out. I will continue to dine there but not as often. After the so called "food" they sent me home with the last night I will never order takeout again. McDonald's is a better choice!

Yelp
Always excellent service, especially the bartender Autumn! The food is spot on! All of the wait staff is very friendly! We especially love the hot cookies!

Yelp
Interesting thing: it's easy to write a review for an excellent restaurant. And it's also pretty easy to write a review for an awful restaurant. Average restaurants / not-so-notable experiences are tougher for me to write about. My wife and I had somewhat high expectations based on a fun, tasty dinner at the Knight's downtown (Liberty St.) location a couple years ago. But it seemed like a different vibe, service level, and food quality at this Dexter Ave. spot. We were seated upstairs in an "ok" location. Kind of a small table that seemed to be right in the path of everyone. Didn't feel super clean. Downstairs, in a booth, by a window, would have been much better. Our drinks -- a sangria and a Moscow mule -- were quite good. Probably the highlight of the evening. We had the chicken wings for an appetizer (decent) and a Rueben (average) and pork baby back ribs (average, slightly dry) for entrées. Staff was alright. Not especially friendly or attentive. Also not hostile. So that's nice. Anyway, solid three star experience. Given the pricing it may be hard to justify coming back when there are other great options.

Yelp
I HIGHLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY recommend this restaurant!! The building itself isn't really anything special, wood paneling on the walls, tired wall hangings, old upholstered booths....BUT....if you're looking for a place to delight and wake up your tastebuds, this is the place to go. Their menu is reminiscent of upscale steakhouses of yesteryear. Delectable cuts of prime rib and steak so tender and juicy that you can cut with a butter knife, salmon and walleye dishes, ribs, chicken, crab legs, pasta dishes, and many more all accompanied by crisp salads with crunchy croutons served on ice cold plates, fresh seasoned vegetables and a choice of rice or potato. I chose the filet mignon, medium rare. It was cooked to perfection, well seasoned, and was enhanced with a dollop of garlic truffle butter. Delicious! I followed up my meal with a cream puff à la mode smothered with a hot fudge sauce so smooth and creamy that my tastebuds were singing the hallelujah chorus! All in all, my dining experience at Knights was one of the best I've had in a very long time. Kudos to this wonderful establishment, to the very attentive wait staff, and for the kitchen staff who work their magic to make the patrons keep coming back for more! Make sure to "treat" the kitchen crew when you go. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Itching to try something new for lunch, my partner in crime recently suggested Knight's. The location was convenient and he had enjoyed his last lunch there. Since I had never been, we decided to make it a date. After parking in one of the spots in the large parking lot, we grabbed a table and were quickly greeted by our server. We used the QR code to peruse the menu, and both decided on sandwiches for lunch -- burger for him and spicy chicken sandwich for me. After a reasonable wait, our food arrived. The temperature was good, and I immediately dug into my crunchy, spicy chicken sandwich and fries with a side of mayo. Flavor-wise, the sandwich hit the spot for me, and was cooked perfectly without being overdone. The fries were bland on their own, but after dunking them in Mayo, I had no problem finishing them off. Overall it was a decent meal, although the interior is a little quaint, service was nothing spectacular, and the prices were a little high for what we ordered. He was disappointed in his burger, as it was really nothing special and only included a side of chips. It's an Ann Arbor staple, so we will likely visit again at some point when the lunch menu rotates and we can eat outside.

Yelp
Great place! Awesome food and drinks. Family friendly place. Wait staff is top notch.

Yelp
Knight's has become one of our favorite takeout places. They have a super easy online ordering system and, since we live in the neighborhood, curbside is a breeze. Not only is it one of our favorite burger takeout joints in town (and the waffle friesssssss! *heart eyes emoji*) but it's also one of my favorite salad spots. Salad at a steakhouse? You may ask. But stick with me! It's great! The Alyssa's Summer, is a variety of mixed greens, roasted almonds, blue cheese, apples, dried cranberries, tomato, onion and cucumber. And I always add a protein. The default is a vinaigrette but I mix it up. If I get a sirloin on top I get the blue cheese dressing. Salmon? That vinaigrette hits the spot. The salad is heart and the sweet and salty pairs really well with the filling protein. They also give you a side of bread if you need a little carb to go with your meal. Oh, and the brownie sundae? AMAZING carry out. They package everything separately so you have to put it together yourself but it means the ice cream doesn't melt, which is great. It's nice to be able to stick it in the freezer and have it whenever I'm ready instead of chowing it down because I'm afraid it'll melt. Also great? if you go to their website to place an order they have a pop up of all their health and safety precautions which is fairly lengthy. They do have indoor and outdoor dining but we're not at that stage of our pandemic comfort level yet but the takeout lets us still enjoy our favorite neighborhood eats!

Yelp
My family and I have been going to Knights for over a decade. This place is a staple in the A2 (Ann Arbor) and we love coming here. The staff is great and the food is always superb. Love the warm and cozy vibe. We plan on going here again... and again... and again... great place!

Yelp
I was disappointed in the quality of food and service at this location. Our server was not attentive. He came to the table about once every 15-20 minutes. Not to say he wasn't working. I saw him running around and tried getting his attention without being rude, but it didn't work. He probably had too many tables. My husband's sandwich and my salad were excellent. I had the Alyssa summer with salmon and he had the crispy chicken sandwich. The fries were very blah. No flavor, wimpy, unseasoned. I'll probably stick to the downtown location.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
I prefer the downtown location not just for ambiance but also feel like the service is typically quicker (might be understaffed on Dexter -nothing so bad you shouldn't come out!) and the food seems like it tastes better. I know it's probably the same stuff so not sure why I've felt like it's tastier out there; maybe it's the cuts of steak I've ordered but I recommend the other location more. Still giving 5 stars bc this is still a great establishment with super tasty options and friendly staff, just maybe not enough right now! The qu gratin potatoes downtown are fab and the drinks are stiff! Check out knights for a tasty meal!

Tj R.

Yelp
Great food with an amazing ambiance along with top tier service! Strongly recommend checking out Knights!

Yelp
Great meats. I'm told that they own a butcher shop. You can tell from the quality of the meat. Pricey but worth the cost. Extremely heavy pore on liquor. Never order a second drink unless someone else is driving. This is mostly Town folks. Students don't go here

Sara J is one of the outstanding servers that makes a meal at Knight's such a great experience. The food is always well prepared from a varied menu. A great neighborhood place for all occasions.

Yelp
Knight's is great for convivial atmosphere, good food, and friendly service. Laura was our waitress on today's visit and was very attentive to our table, as she always is! Thank you, Knight's, for being an important destination in our community!

Yelp
As a long time A2 resident, Knight's has been me and my family's go to resturant. Knight's not only provides phenomenal food, but also an exceptional atmosphere and an even better staff. Their motto states, "enter as strangers, leave as friends" and that could not be a more true statement.

Yelp
Great restaurant but 3% credit card fee, cutbacks in small things with drinks and food, and a huge turnover in waitstaff. Not the place it used to be. Spaghetti and meatballs over 20 bucks? Please...

Yelp
food, service off the charts. our server Kylie was so kind and pleasant, all of her recommendations were great. the ambiance upstairs was perfect just what we were in the mood for. steak was delicious, key lime pie delightful. looking forward to our next visit. Joe and Lori Krzyzaniak

Yelp
Food serving sizes were small and the temperature was not very hot. It was pretty busy and that's why the service was sparse.

Yelp
I have to give Knight's a 50/50 rating. We've lived in the area over 25 years and finally got around to trying this steakhouse after great recommendations from friends. So rather than jump into full dinners, we tried lunch first. The burger, with added cheese, sautéed onions and mushrooms, on a brioche bun was very good. The burger to bun ratio was excellent and the meat was cooked to perfection; the only issue was a definite lack of cheese. Try as hard as we could, there was no cheese to be found, but the burger was good nonetheless. We also had the corned beef reuben, which I would recommend avoiding. There was a healthy portion of corned beef on the rye bread, but a definite lack of swiss cheese and very little sauerkraut; making the sandwich very dry to eat with a definite loss of overall flavor. I will say that our server was very friendly and efficient, and the ambiance was not bad. But I'm just not sure, based on this experience, if we would return to sample the steak dinners where the prices are steep (but portion size does appear to match the higher cost) and a bad meal could be very costly. So overall our experience was a middle of the road rating, some good and some poor.

Yelp
One of my favorite "nice" places in ann arbor. The menu can be a bit pricey but the food is always worth it.

Yelp
Had a graduation dinner for 15 there for our son who graduated from M Law. Fantastic evening in all respects! Service (Mike) was 5 star! Food was excellent - ordered off the menu and no one had a complaint! Ordered a cheesecake and layer cake from Knight's in-house bakery and it was to die for - especially the black and white cheesecake! Would recommend to anyone!

Yelp
We have tried to eat here 4 or 5 times and been unsuccessful it's so busy. This weekend we were able to get a table and try their food. Worth the wait!

Yelp
We've been coming to Knight's for over twenty five years and in the past have always enjoyed our meal and felt that the quality was high and the value was good. This past meal was a disappointment. The service was somewhat slow and uneven, although everyone was polite, the service was what one would expect at an Applebees (for example) not an institution like Knight's. As to the food, the NY Strip steak was somewhat over cooked and while tender was not outstanding enough to justify the $50 price tag. The baked potato was ordinary "college cafeteria" quality and the green beans were no better. The side salad? Well, it too seemed to have come from a nearby student cafeteria. My spouse's tenderloin was also quite ordinary and also not worthy of the price. I realize that everyone is having "problems" with "staffing and supply chain issues" but come on folks, how can a restaurant that has been in business for so long lose its way? Sadly, Knight's has joined the list of so many classic Ann Arbor restaurants that are living off their past reputations without delivering. So sad.

Yelp
Love this local steakhouse like taking a step back in time except for the menu really good food for the price because that family feel to it
