Vancouver Shari’s Location Transforms Into a New Shake Shack | Eater Portland

"The tasting-menu restaurant, which went dark in September 2024 when chef Matthew Lightner left the operation, is reported by Portland Monthly to be set to reopen in May. Chef Christy Smith of Guerra’s will take the lead and introduce a new four-course menu format utilizing produce from the restaurant’s farm in Dundee Hills. Dinner will be priced at $100 per guest, and the menu will be divided into "field, sea, pasture, and pantry" with three options in each category, per PoMo." - Dianne de Guzman

Joel was an absolute delight. We came to the tasting room on a whim after arriving in Willamette Valley a bit early for our reservation at another winery. He greeted us with an easy drinking rose and then explained each of the wines in the flight as we went through them. The views are beautiful and the wines are lovely. Don’t miss this cute patio down the dirt road.

Knudsen has the very best Pinot Noir's you can get for the price! The staff is very knowledgeable and I love to experience their expertise in the grape growing industry. If you ever get the chance to visit Oregon, and you are into wine, make this your first stop. You will keep coming back to this quaint vineyard. I love you guys!!! Bridget

Google
Knudsen Vineyards was the first stop on a day full of wineries, and it set the bar high for the others. Joel gave a great breakdown of the different parts of the land and its effects on the grapes. The wine was delicious, and they even ship their wines! I would gladly come back again.

Google
I had an amazing time at wine tasting in the beautiful Knudsen vineyards. The scenery was breathtaking, with rows of vines set against rolling hills. The wines were excellent, from crisp whites to bold reds, and the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Their rose stood out with its delicious finish. The whole experience was relaxing and enjoyable, and I highly recommend it for wine lovers!

Google
We had a great experience tasting some excellent wines recently at Knudsen. Our host was awesome, sharing his deep wine knowledge and enthusiasm! We were lucky enough to meet the owner, Paige, who is absolutely wonderful. If you want to sample some great wines in a relaxing and welcoming environment, Knudsen will not disappoint.

Google
Knudsen was a wonderful stop on our tour of the Willamette Valley. The wine was amazing. Our host, T, was knowledgeable and kind. She taught us about the wines and the history of the vineyard. She answered every question we had. The property is beautiful. The drive up was absolutely gorgeous. Even in the fog and rain, it was a wonderful trip.

We recently booked a hike and wine tasting experience as a birthday gift for friends visiting from Arizona, and it turned out to be the most incredible experience. They were absolutely taken by the stunning vineyard setting—tasting wine right among the vines, soaking in panoramic views, and even catching a glimpse of Mt. Hood. Their host, Abby, was fantastic—sharing rich, engaging insights about the vineyard, the region, and how the unique terroir shapes the wines of the Willamette Valley. The experience was made even more special when they were personally welcomed by Paige Knudsen, whose warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression. As our friend put it, it was such a meaningful way to experience Oregon wine country and feel celebrated. A truly memorable birthday gift—and they’re already planning a return trip to explore more of the beauty this region has to offer. Highly recommend!

Google
We came for the dog and wine walk. It was so much fun! Our anxious dog was scared of nearby gunshots, so unfortunately we had to make our walk short. The owner was gracious enough to allow us to enjoy a glass of wine further away from the scary noise which our dog definitely preferred.

Terry G.

Yelp
Very beautify setting, but the wines were nothing remarkable and the tasting was a bit pricey. But overall it was still a great experience and we had very friendly service.

Yelp
During our wine tasting tour in the Willamette Valley, we had a wine blend with Knutson grown grapes at another winery and liked it so much we decided to go see it for ourselves. We were greeted by the host who was friendly and gave us a sample as we found our seat on the patio. The patio is fabulous with a beautiful view of the area. We decided not to do a tasting because we wanted to try their Pinot Noir so we each got a glass of a different Pinot and settled in the shade and Beaty with some Oregon grown hazelnuts. The 2022 Backstory was a beautiful and bolder Pinot which I love. It turned out to be my favorite Pinot tasted on our trip. Additionally the host was knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. I like going to wineries where you learn about the wine you are drinking and that was definitely the case here. When I'm back in the area, I will head here first. And we also got the lowdown on the membership!

Yelp
We had a great tasting with Emily. Really interesting to learn the long history of the property, with the more recent estate winemaking and tasting room. Beautiful views and some really nice, affordably priced rose, chardonnay, and of course, pinot noirs.

Nicole K.

Yelp
This was a most pleasant surprise for us! We had done some wine tasting in Dundee but were looking for somewhere that was family friendly and we could drag our children along too. Knudsen was definitely the place to go with lovely Chardonnay and, of course, Pinot Noirs. The wines were light and refreshing and very lovely. And the staff was warm and friendly, even offering our kids a "juice challenge" with three different juices and snacks, so they could enjoy the experience with us. If ever in Willamette Valley, this is definitely a winery to visit.

Cathy W.

Yelp
We had a very nice experience at the winery. There was only one staff person. She was delightful... Enjoyed the lovely ground sitting outside.

Yelp
We had a lovely visit at Knudsen Vineyards. The wines of the region are all really good and this was no disappointment. What made this different was the view and warm atmosphere. Our host talked to us not only about the wine we were drinking, but about life, family and what we were enjoying on our trip. It made the experience feel like a family visit, not just a commercial transaction.

Yelp
Great service and knowledgeable staff. Very good wines, both red & white! Love the family history and the history of the winery.

Denise P.

Yelp
We had a really nice first visit to this tasting room. Very good date day! Come visit Oregon wine country.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of visiting your vineyard in November 2024. The wines were delicious and the service amazing! We will definitely be back!

Ankit M.

Yelp
We were seated in the patio with our dog and the views were fantastic. The wine was great and we did not try any foods. The servers were friendly and gave us a lot of info about their wines during the tasting. Will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Spectacular wines, warm and inviting service, with stunning views of rolling hills, gardens and even hummingbirds, Knudsen Vineyards took the win for best wines on our recent stay in Dundee. Of the 5 wines in the flight, I loved four, purchased 3, and I'm considering becoming a member. The wines were that good. We came a few days before Memorial Day to beat the crowds, which sounds unusual after 14 months of semi isolation due to Covid, but since wineries require appointments, we wanted to visit the top five on our list. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers who pointed me to Knudsen; let me pay it forward by recommending Knudsen to others, without hesitation. Damian greeted us warmly upon arrival and had our flights already set up in main light filled room by the window overlooking the patio and gorgeous rolling hills. It was a day of repeatEd stretches of sunshine then downpours, so rather than take a chance, he recommended that we sit indoors. The view was so beautiful it was an easy compromise. Let the tasting begin! Not only was each wine described by its origins and tasting notes, we learned a lot about the history of Knudsen, the first commercial wine producer in Dundee Hills, back when they were Knudsen-Erath. Their picturesque vineyards are the image of the Oregon Wine Lovers license plate! Wow! There is even a canvas of this image hanging on the wall. Plus Knudsen license plate frames for the taking. While I'm not giving up my Portland Trailblazer's plate, the wine country design would be my 2nd option. The first wine we tasted was a Chardonnay, something I rarely drink or like, but immediately fell in love with theirs and knew I would buy a bottle. The 2018 Double Gold, with flavors of lemon, apricot, honey and vanilla was silky and smooth. Typically Pinot Noir is too light for my preference but their 2019 Backstor blew me away. Deep and rich, it was my favorite. Recently bottled, it was only available to purchase there. The 2018 Double Gold was also bold with hints of chocolate ganache and spice. Bought a bottle of this, too! We finished the tasting with the 2017 Reserve, another winner, tastes of raspberry and plum. In all, I loved 4 of the 5! Bottles are on the pricier side so becoming a member is definitely worth it. As we were finishing, the outside patio and side room were filled, although socially distanced appropriately. Now that the warmer weather is here, they have music on the outdoor patio some late afternoons. The patio is positioned up high with the best views of the vineyards and makes a lovely setting. I'll definitely be back to enjoy music, fine wine and a phenomenal view! This was my first time here and it easily became one of my favorite wineries in the area. The wine itself is stellar. Then add the warm, friendly and informative service plus gorgeous views of rolling hills of grape vines, it's the perfect place to relax, unwind, and feel like your a million miles away!

Yelp
This is a beautiful winery with an amazing view of the vineyard. We were greeted with smiles and received a wonderful table outside where we were able to sip and enjoy the warm sunshine. Heidi was great and super informative of all the wines she served. We look forward to our next visit!

Yelp
My wife & I visited The Knudsen winery in October, 2024. We made a reservation and tasted several wines which were very good. The venue was lovely and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and made our visit special. If you're visiting the Willamette valley this is a great winery to visit.

Susan B.

Yelp
Beautiful setting, wonderful wines and a very pleasant staff! I highly recommend making Knudsen Vineyards part of your Willamette Valley visits.

Yelp
Our recent experience with this winery has been terrible. Two year ago we visited with our two children and had an amazing experience. We were drawn to this specific location because they had a $14 juice flight for kids and were considered a Family Friendly winery by the Williamette Valley Wine Association. Visiting the area with friends we decided to take them there as well. We called at noon to make a reservation for 4 adults and 5 kids and booked the juice flights. We then received a call an hour and a half later stating that we would be charged $25 for the non drinking kids. At that time we decided to forgo the juice flights. After doing so she put us on a lengthy hold and said that 'the kids would need to stay at the table at all times and cannot move for our sanity'. We then asked them if they had issue with kids being there all together because it sounded to be an issue. She then said they like kids but 5 was just a bit too much. We suggested they reconsider the listing as family friendly and the woman on the line became very defensive. Very disappointed that this would not have just been stated from the beginning saving everyone involved time and energy.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous winery. It is so secluded and has beautiful views... and the wine is great too! The service is amazing and everyone is so friendly- they clearly know a lot about wine and love talking about it. This place is especially great if you love Pinot noir!

Yelp
Knutsen Vineyards is one of those "come back to" kind of places. Their tasting room is not for the get in/get out wine taster looking for the sleek/slick trendy contemporary atmosphere. No. It's like going home to family where you know you are going to be nurtured and will share an experience with those who care about the wine and you as a follower of the grape. They offer a lovely intimate deck as well as a charming patio to enjoy a glass of their award winning Chardonnay and Pinots. Stop by and rest a spell. Enjoy the ambiance of a family owned winery and if you have the time I'd encourage you to sign up for one of their walking tours through the vineyard. The knowledge gained is invaluable as well as strolling through the rows of grapes is so good for one's soul.

Yelp
Gorgeous drive to get here... the view from the patio is fabulous. But a bottle of what you enjoyed the most versus paying for the testing. There are 2 tasting options and we each did different options so we could try it all. There is also some good choices to try abs enjoy a great afternoon

Yelp
Beautiful view from the top of the hill and friendly service. We bought a couple bottles of the reserve as it was tender to the tongue. We enjoyed the young woman serving us that was attending a local college to become sommelier.

Scott L.

Yelp
The charcuterie was very good... The What do we have there? The Rose was very tasty. The view was nice

Yelp
Great place and staff very friendly! I love the red wines if you love wine Check it out if you are visiting the area.

Yelp
Yep, you want want to choose Knudsen for your wine tasting. Jaime and Damian made our visit fun and memorable! They have activities and snacks for your kids, ample knowledge of their wine and a humor we'll always remember. Thank you Jaime and thank you Damian!

Yelp
We just returned from a family road trip through Oregon and Knudsen came recommended due to being kid/family-friendly. Not only was it kid friendly, but the wine is delicious and the views are stunning. The staff was also wonderful. Can't say enough good things. I left happy and with some wonderful wines to bring back and enjoy from home!

Yelp
We loved our experience at Knudsen! If the hike is available, I highly recommend it. We were fortunate enough to have Paige Knudsen lead our hike, which made it even better - hearing family stories along with learning about the vineyard. After the hike we had a lovely lunch with wonderful wines as well. This was a very memorable and enjoyable experience that I highly recommend

Yelp
Enjoyed a pleasant visit at Knudsen over the weekend. Scenic drive up, beautiful vineyard and super friendly staff. Megan was our pourer and did a phenomenal job explaining the wines and their characteristics. You would have never known it was her first day pouring! Very personable and made us feel very welcomed. Also enjoyed a delicious cheese, nuts, dried fruit and chocolate plate during the tasting and with a glass afterwards. Left with a few bottles of their Rose which was probably my favorite. Only wish was that their reservations were longer than 1 hour :(

Yelp
This place was absolute magic. We were there with a couple friends that we were visiting in quarantine and it was an absolutely incredible experience. The Vineyard itself has the amazing views that we are all looking for and the staff was very helpful in choosing what wine tasting we should do. I brought my husband who is not into wine tasting whatsoever and he was a good sport and the overall experience was so much fun. I tried some of their famous wines, and the white always is my favorite. In a time like this it is helpful that there are so many businesses following protocol and making our experience unforgettable and safe. Honestly this was one of my first experiences outside of quarantine since 2020 and I felt like it was a good one. Just take a look at how cute the photos are. Heated patio, and zen views. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
By far our favorite vineyard in the area is Knudsen. First of all, gorgeous views and lovely tasting room. Secondly, the knowledge of the folks working there. And we even met the owner, who is just a charming woman with a great passion and enthusiasm for her wines. And thirdly, THE WINE! Best Pinots in the valley. The 2017 Reserve is the best Pinot we tasted in the 3 days (and 8 wineries) we were there. I am looking forward to my shipment coming in a month at home!

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at Knudson Vineyards last week! We wanted to do a small trip to the Willamette Valley with our 4-month old, and the tasting room at Knudson Vineyards was exactly what we needed. We sat outside with a large amount of space for us to relax, with lots of distance between tables for social distancing. We had the tasting and the charcuterie and cheese board, which was perfect as our lunch! We cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
The 2016 Pinot is one of my few favorite pinots! Really impressive wines across the board. Awesome to see Knudsen start their own tasting room and winery, as these are the grapes they use at Argyle for their Knudsen line of wines. We were the last ones there on a Friday afternoon, and got to spend a good amount of time with the owner, Paige, learning about the history of the vineyards, and even practicing Spanish with her! The winery has everything in English and Spanish, in order to make things more accessible to the communities who help support vineyard operations every day. Paige is even learning Spanish in order to communicate with the Knudsen crew in their native language - major bonus points for that! We were so impressed with the wine and the operations that we joined the wine club after our first visit; we're looking forward to many more visits!

Skyler W.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVED spending my birthday here. The service was amazing- as soon as we entered, a very sweet woman gave us a glass of Rosé (wish I could remember her name!), and everything at our table was set up beautifully- even a happy birthday sign! Lauren was our pourer, and she was incredibly sweet and helpful the whole time. We also loved that Page Knudsen, the owner, would walk around talking to each of her guests giving information about the vineyard. She was also interested in her guests lives, which made the experience more personable and involving. Of course, the wine was delicious as well! I'm not entirely a wine person but wanted to go tasting and found myself having MORE than just one tasting. Thank you all so much and I can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Had a lovely time tasting at Knudsen over the weekend. We had our 2 younger children with us who did the "kids juice challenge" which was awesome. They had a band playing which was a great touch. One of the owners came and talked to us - very nice and personalized. Over all an A+ experience. We will be going back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
$30 tastings are a bit higher than I would prefer to spend, though it did come with a bottle of Rosé. With that said we had a pleasant time out on the patio, and a nice chat with our server/gardener, and the owner.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this vineyard. We felt welcomed and comfortable upon arrival. Our server was knowledgeable and extremely easy to talk to. Beautiful setting with delicious wines. Highly recommend! Cheers !

Yelp
We went to Knudsen to do a winetasting and take a walking tour of their vineyards. One of the owners took us on the tour. It was very informative and a great way to get some exercise hiking through their gorgeous grounds. Note that the tour includes some pretty steep walking so make sure you're prepared with appropriate shoes. The lunch we were served was very good and the wines we tasted were very nice Pinots. We ended up buying a few bottles. I would advise this as a wonderful way to spend half a day when you're in the area. (Be sure to reserve in advance.)
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
The view is breathtaking, the service is extremely personable (love that there are two Knudsens greeting guests) and the wine is delicious. With such a rich history and hiking as an optional visitor experience, this is a winery that all should add to their must-see list. 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir is killer.

Yelp
Knudsen Vineyards is a very picturesque and welcoming place to spend an afternoon tasting quality wines. The host is friendly and knowledgeable. Mrs. Knudsen also welcomes you and speaks to the history of the property. It was a very enjoyable experience, only wish we could have stayed longer.

T P.

Yelp
We love this family owned vineyard so much that we joined their club! Now we have more reason to head out to enjoy their wines, the beautiful views, the events and relaxxxxx under their charming care. Paige Knudsen is so gracious and welcoming. I can't wait for summer when they have bands on their patio overlooking the vineyard.

Louanne M.

Yelp
What a gorgeous place to taste some fabulous wine and enjoy delicious bites. Lovely Sunday afternoon destination.

Katherine J.

Yelp
This is an established vineyard with a new presence in its own historic tasting room, christened The Overlook! We were so excited about their opening and we weren't disappointed! Lovely setting, great wine, and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend!

Colleen S.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at Knudson Vineyards. They treated us very well and were very informative. What I really liked was having all the glasses set out so we could compare the wines and pick the Pinot Noir we liked the best. Beautiful location.

Donna B.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time at Knudsen vineyards! Very attentive employees and a lovely setting. Had a fabulous pinot noir and I am not a huge fan of it normally. Will definitely go back.

Susan P.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time sipping great wine at Knudsen Vineyards. It was a picture perfect day looking over the rolling hills filled with grape vines near harvest. Their beautiful outdoor terrace was so warm and inviting. The wine flight was delicious, and our server Peter was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. As a bonus, owner Paige Knudsen stopped by to talk about her family owned winery, its history, and their plans for future wines and experiences. She even took us out into the vineyard to discuss this years harvest. Plan a visit to Knudsen Vineyards soon, before the weather turns. You won't regret it!
