Go Ang Seafood

"From humble origins as a small shop with a zinc roof, it’s now one of the most popular seafood restaurants with a comfortable interior and Chinese décor. Chef-owner Go Ang cooks the entire southern Thai menu. The blue swimming crab, horseshoe crab and mantis shrimp are sourced daily from 5 markets. The steamed crab with tangy seafood dip and fried mantis shrimp with garlic are delightful, while the Southern Thai spicy sour soup with seabass is also a must-try." - Michelin Inspector

I’m writing this review as a serious warning to other diners. My girlfriend and I visited Ko Ang Seafood Restaurant in Phuket just a few days ago, and the experience turned into a medical emergency. She ordered the horseshoe crab, and within 24 hours she experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea. That alone would be concerning, but the situation escalated dangerously. She began experiencing symptoms consistent with neurotoxin poisoning – her fingers swelled, went numb, and became extremely painful. We had to seek urgent medical care, and doctors advised us that the food may have caused kidney complications as a result of potential toxicity from what she ate. This is not just food poisoning – this was life-threatening. After researching more, we discovered that horseshoe crab poisoning is a documented and very serious risk, and should never be served without rigorous safety protocols. Ko Ang failed this responsibility. To make matters worse: • Dogs were seen running around the kitchen area, completely unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one that allegedly holds Michelin recognition. • The food itself was overrated and not worth the hype. Poor flavor, inconsistent freshness, and unsafe practices. This place is dangerous, not just disappointing. We strongly urge all travelers and diners to avoid eating here, especially the horseshoe crab and any raw or specialty seafood. Ko Ang Seafood should be reassessed by Michelin inspectors immediately. Cleanliness and food safety are non-negotiable, and this establishment fell drastically short of even basic hygiene standards.

Nice local casual place to have seafood. It could be a little bit salty, I guess it’s the general taste here. The seafood is so fresh. The cockle I had was big and juicy. The stewed pork knuckle is tender and the smell of the spices make it even more enjoyable to have with steamed rice.

It’s a local seafood restaurant with air-con room provided but seats are limited. Anyway we visited in late Feb, so it’s not sweaty hot even we just stayed under the ceiling fan. Avoid disappointment, better to make a call to restaurant first The food are very delicious but my husband has food poisoning from the seafood cockle, blood clams. Since it’s not 100% cooked. Not blaming the restaurant but it’s always not a good idea to have uncooked seafood, especially you are visiting Phuket and don’t want anything to ruin your holidays.

- There was sand and mud in oyster, the lady who seems to be the owner didn't help anything when we complained about it. - Seafood was fresh but the taste was so-so, not thing special. - the price was relatively high. With this price, we expected the service to be better

A must-try Michelin spot in Phuket Old Town! Ko Ang Seafood truly lives up to its reputation. The seafood is incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked — the crabs and seafood fried rice are absolute standouts and highly recommended. Every seafood dish we tried was full of flavor and expertly prepared. The pork dishes, however, were a bit underwhelming and not something I’d recommend. That said, the overall quality of the food was excellent, and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. If you’re in Phuket Old Town, this place should definitely be on your list!

Ko Ang Seafood in Phuket Town is a must-try spot for authentic local flavors! Conveniently located in the heart of town, the restaurant offers a cozy, no-frills atmosphere perfect for a relaxed meal. The highlight here is the incredibly fresh seafood, especially the large, juicy shellfish paired with their flavorful dipping sauces. They also serve a variety of traditional Southern Thai dishes with bold, authentic flavors. If you’re looking for high-quality seafood and a taste of local Thai cuisine in Phuket, Ko Ang is highly recommended!

The menu was very helpful with English. The crab curry was spicy but good. The squids with black sauce were spicy but good. The fried shrimp had a nice sweet and sour sauce to give my tongue break. I'm definitely building up my spice tolerance. I would not recommend the black sugarcane juice.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel a responsibility to warn others after what I experienced at Ko Ang Seafood in Phuket. I ate here three days ago with my boyfriend. I ordered the horseshoe crab, trusting that a restaurant with Michelin recognition would follow proper food safety protocols. Unfortunately, I ended up getting severely ill from what I now believe was neurotoxin poisoning. The next day, I experienced intense vomiting and diarrhea, followed by swelling, numbness, and pain in my fingers and hands. The symptoms were frightening and kept worsening. I had to visit a doctor twice, and the medical staff expressed serious concern about possible kidney involvement and neurotoxin effects. Because of this, I’ve had to miss work, and my recovery is still ongoing. This wasn’t a simple upset stomach—this was a serious medical incident that completely disrupted my health and travel plans. On top of that, we saw dogs roaming around the kitchen, which made me question how this place could possibly qualify for any kind of Michelin recognition. It was unsanitary, and in hindsight, it makes sense that the food would be unsafe. The dishes themselves were disappointing, overpriced, and certainly not up to any high culinary standard. This experience has left me shaken and frustrated. I strongly advise anyone considering this restaurant to rethink your plans, and absolutely do not order the horseshoe crab. Ko Ang Seafood is not safe, and the authorities — including Michelin inspectors — need to take a closer look.
