I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel a responsibility to warn others after what I experienced at Ko Ang Seafood in Phuket.
I ate here three days ago with my boyfriend. I ordered the horseshoe crab, trusting that a restaurant with Michelin recognition would follow proper food safety protocols. Unfortunately, I ended up getting severely ill from what I now believe was neurotoxin poisoning.
The next day, I experienced intense vomiting and diarrhea, followed by swelling, numbness, and pain in my fingers and hands. The symptoms were frightening and kept worsening. I had to visit a doctor twice, and the medical staff expressed serious concern about possible kidney involvement and neurotoxin effects.
Because of this, I’ve had to miss work, and my recovery is still ongoing. This wasn’t a simple upset stomach—this was a serious medical incident that completely disrupted my health and travel plans.
On top of that, we saw dogs roaming around the kitchen, which made me question how this place could possibly qualify for any kind of Michelin recognition. It was unsanitary, and in hindsight, it makes sense that the food would be unsafe. The dishes themselves were disappointing, overpriced, and certainly not up to any high culinary standard.
This experience has left me shaken and frustrated. I strongly advise anyone considering this restaurant to rethink your plans, and absolutely do not order the horseshoe crab. Ko Ang Seafood is not safe, and the authorities — including Michelin inspectors — need to take a closer look.
