The University City Lunch Guide

"Koch’s Deli has been handing out sample deli meats in long lines since before Ronald Reagan was a California governor. It’s easily the best place in University City to get a sandwich, especially if you like meat. They pile up to four different types of thinly-cut meats in between fluffy Italian rolls, resulting in a sandwich so thick you’ll momentarily wish you could unhinge your jaw like a snake. And, if you’re still hungry after you finish your sandwich, you should get one of their thick, creamy vanilla milkshakes." - sydney mcelwee

Google
Heard about this Deli. One of the best from the area Ordered a Hoagie and it is amazing. The layers of fresh pastrami and salami, perfectly stacked with crisp lettuce and onions on a soft roll. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious.. Cant wait next visit for varied selections.

Google
I ordered a huge platter for 15 people and they did not disappoint. The whole order is fresh, beautiful, and tasty. And the workers were so sweet and considerate. This will definitely be a staple in my household.

Your next meal needs to be at Koch's Deli!!! The establishment is very clean, with no clutter like most delis. The atmosphere is great, along with the phenomenal service, but, baby, the food… top-freaking-notch!! I found my new favorite place. Thanks, fellas, for making me feel so welcome. Y'all have a new customer!!!

Outstanding service and a great atmosphere! The team went above and beyond. Highly recommend this spot—5 stars all the way!

Google
10/10 no notes. This was my first time at the deli, everyone was lovely and friendly while I waited for my order. I got the Reuben and it was insanely delicious! Definitely eat here. I cant wait to try more of their sandwiches!

Google
Koch's has always been a favorite deli of our old neighborhood since the 70's when we were kids. The original owners were the sweetest guys. Always giving samples and conversation. I'm no longer in the neighborhood but they are still my number 1 when it came to sandwiches and friendships. We became family just standing around waiting for our orders. I'll be coming to see the new place soon. God bless you guys

Google
Koch’s Deli has the best hot pastrami sandwich I’ve ever had! The meat is so tender and flavorful, and they pile it high. Great food, friendly staff—can’t recommend it enough!

Google
I stopped by Koch’s Deli and tried the LBK Special—what an amazing sandwich! The double-decker rye was loaded with roast beef, turkey, lettuce, tomato, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The meat was tender, and the combination of coleslaw and dressing tied it all together perfectly. If you’re looking for a hearty, delicious sandwich, this is the one to try. I’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
Long wait but it's worth it. I personally like the Drexel special. Tongue - the meat that tastes you back!

Yelp
If you're in Philly and you're thinking about getting a Hoagie, a Reuben, a steak or a hot pastrami sandwich that can be served cold - the owner is adamant that it is better served cold - you should visit Koch's. My experience was the best customer service and the most unique deli encounter of my life. It was great before and it's still great now. This humble, newly remodeled Deli has the best vibe of anywhere I've gotten a bite to eat in a long time. The owner is often behind the counter making S-teir sandwiches and if you're lucky he may even give you a sample of the delicatessen's spoils (delicious cuts of various meats). Give it a try. Thank you Koch's!

Yelp
Always busy, always worth it. The new renovation looks great. Posting pics for folks to see some updates.

Yelp
Hey, Yelp Family! I was in the area and I realized I haven't eaten here in almost 2 years and wanted to taste some nostalgia. this Deli has been in the community longer than I've been alive and I remember the sandwiches being larger than life and the prices were amazing. I stepped in and to my surprise the menu was pretty limited compared to what I remembered but they did add healthy options like smoothies and things. it did surprise me that the sandwich prices jumped up to $6 or $7 more but for the amount you get, it's still fair. I was not prepared to wait for 35 minutes for a tuna sandwich but it's all good. Till this day, I haven't found the quality of ingredients anywhere like this Deli. I'm sure if I dived more into South Philly in the old school Italian Market, I will find some places. But in terms of West Philly, it's as old school as it gets. Now ya'll know you gotta share your fave deli with me when you get a chance

Yelp
My second time here, been wanting a real hoagie for awhile.. stopped in Koch's Deli no line, and grabbed a Cornbeef hoagie and a Turkey hoagie. They have a huge selection of what I wld say gourmet beverages. I got two hanks sodas and this organic cold pressed watermelon basil cucumber drink. The bottle sold me. I hope it taste as good as it looks hoagie was delicious, fresh meat and veggies. Only thing I wld add is more lettuce, I like a nice crunch when I bite into my hoagie. Other then that it was just as good as the first time I went! Consistency !!!

Yelp
Late Saturday afternoon, I stopped in to see what the place looks like after the renovation. I have to say that I approve. It's been a couple of years since my last visit and thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich back then. But ... The place was the same as it was in 1966. I knew things were being handled correctly but the place was in desperate need of a facelift. The charm of nostalgia had worn thin. I will miss the ancient soda cooler and vintage refrigerated display case but it was time. They have retained the tradition of handing samples of product over the counter while you wait, which was all part of the charm of the original place. I knew Lou and Bob back in the day and even remember ... Mom and Pop behind the counter. It's good to see the place has continued the business in a way that they would approve. I neglected to take any pictures even though I have a brand new phone! My son did take this picture of a picture from the old days. It says it all. If only the prices were even close to what they were back then! "Progress might have been all right once, but it has gone on too long." Ogden Nash I paid $16 for a "Jewish Hoagie" which contains pastrami, corned-beef and a small amount of salami "kosher". It was tasty. My recommendation is to get a sandwich! A corned-beef, a pastrami or a special on rye!

Yelp
The food is delicious! And the prices are fair. I'm disappointed that they no longer care of a deal pickle.

Yelp
This was a very neighbouring experience. Soon as I entered the small store, I saw to left and right of me, what looked like pictures of the staff family and friends as well as celebrities who have visted Koch's deli. I also saw the menu on the wall and they decided to name their hoagies after Philly Schools such as the Temple or Penn hoagie. They have this Special K hoagie which has potato salad, corned beef, turkey, pastrimi, swiss cheese and russian dressing. I was gonna try that but I figured I'll start basic and I got the gobbler which had all turkey meats, veggies and russian dressing. It was delicious and huge! you definitely can't finish it in one day! Overall the staff was super friendly, the guy that made my sandwich was down to earth and he did a good job with explaining their selections. Prices are a little steep but worth it. It's a treat you give yourself, I pretty much paid about 16.00. So if your in the area come to Koch's deli to grab a unique sandwich and have a unique sandwich experience.

Yelp
Word on the street is that Koch's is one of the best deli's in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to try it out before they remodeled...however, I'm glad that they're up and running again. The store is very, VERY clean. They have a large menu and many drinks and snacks. I love the variety of everything here and was excited to see that it resembles the 'papi' stores that I'm used to back home. I know they're famous for their reubens and corned beef sandwiches, however I was craving a chicken salad hoagie and that's what I got. That jawn was bussin. My boyfriend got a steak, egg and cheese on a long roll and it was good too. Why the 3 stars if everything was good you ask? The price. Two sandwiches cost nearly $30. That's pretty damn pricey. I understand inflation and all, and I'm happy to be supporting small owned businesses, but it didn't hit us on how much we actually paid until we left. The prices definitely don't resemble a papi store... So yeah... super delicious...and I can understand the hype, but the price I paid might've stopped me from returning :/

Yelp
Very friendly and awesome Reuben. Would highly recommend if you have that craving and the pickles are also solid

Yelp
Sandwiches and service are both great!! Can't get over how good the vegan Philly steak is and my boyfriend always gets the turkey club double decker. We only discovered this place 2 weeks ago and have been back about 4 times now!

Yelp
I was a guest at Penn Medicine for a few days. I had enough with the food and asked my husband to bring me something good when he came to visit. He brought me the biggest and most delicious pastrami special. Very good food. The only complaint was parking was difficult.

Yelp
Koch's has been around so long, since 1962 I think, I don't know if there's anything else I could write that someone else hasn't written. I only just discovered a year ago while taking a walk in my daughters neighborhood. Although I know I forgot to check in a few times I've been there at least six times in 2019-20. My face had a big smile on it when I first entered this establishment in 2019. I had stumbled upon a truly great (food wise) Jewish deli in the heart of West Philly adjacent To University City. Yes, they are expensive. Comparable to Manhattan pricing. But if you get beyond the prices you'll realize that you'll get at least two meals out of one sandwich. If you pair it with their surprisingly reasonably priced side of macaroni salad, coleslaw or potato salad you can get 4 meals. And YES the inside although clean looks like its not been changed since they opened in i think 1962. (disclaimer: i speak of previous times inside. None during Covid) The reason I come here is this place has the "city" Jewish deli vibe that is different than suburban delis. And i dig that! The man that works the counter I assume is the owner and he has sandwich making down to a science. My items are always well packaged and double bagged. They include plenty of napkins which is good because their sandwiches are overstuffed. They also include utensils. because I think he remembers that I'm driving home with it. He just has that sense about him that he remembers customers. *** Special shout out to this business during COVID-19. Every imaginable precaution was taken. There were signs to not enter. The same sign requested that you maintain a safe distance of 6 feet if outside. As I stood outside i could see everything. I was able to order through the plate glass window And we could hear each other. The man making the food wiped down the counter with a pristine rag and then put on a fresh pair of gloves to make my items. I have loved every single item I have ordered here. Every sandwich has been memorable. Every side item has been tasty and fresh Koch's is open 7 days a week for at least 9 hours a day. It's totally worth your while to try.

Yelp
Koch's Deli is on 43rd and Locust Street. It's been around since 1966 and it's a staple for University City and us Penn students. It's currently open daily from 11am-8pm and you can place an online for delivery or takeout. For COVID, you can't go into the store and you have to wait outside for your order. I highly recommend calling the store beforehand to place an order if you're picking up. The wait for a sandwich is pretty long and I had to wait about 40 minutes for my order. I got the Reuben Sandwich on Rye ($14.95) and it was extremely filling. Koch's sandwiches are packed and by the time I ate one half I was already full. It also comes with two pickles on the side. I thought the sandwich was really tasty-- the meat was so juicy and the bread was perfectly crisp to hold everything together. However, I think their items are overpriced and the service was meh; the owner of the shop was a bit curt and I don't think he's a big fan of orders that come through Snackpass. TLDR: The sandwiches are amazing and there's a reason Koch's has been around for decades. But the service and prices are meh.

Yelp
A Walnut Hill classic. Call on the phone, don't order in an app. Or just go in and order. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We ordered a sandwich and several other deli items today from Koch's and lemme tell you we loved the Sammy! Service 6/5 The delivery woman was very nice and there was little to no leakage. Food 6/5 Below please find a photo of the Sammy ...We shared the Penn Sammy but we substituted spice beef instead of tongue; this double decker Sammy includes corned beef, pastrami, spice beef (in lieu of tongue), Muenster cheese (I forgot to say no cheese) coleslaw, Russian dressing on real deal rye. The meat was cut deli thin and the sandwich should be eaten in private cuz it's juicy, messy and delicious! Koch's is also a full service deli and we ordered other items just to have for folks who wanted to make their own Sammie's. This list included: Chopped liver, potato salad, coleslaw, 1/2 lb each of corned beef and pastrami. We snuck a taste of the chopped liver and the potato salad. Delish! I always wanted to try that sandwich and basically begged my bestie to share it. In the future I'd probably just order the corn beef /pastrami mixed special with two slices instead of three slices of bread. We enjoyed the Sammy none the less!

Yelp
Stopped in for the hot Ruben and it was absolutely delicious!!!! The best Ruben I ever had and I'm a huge Ruben fan. The meat is freshly sliced and the quality of ingredients is top notch. Owner is super friendly and welcoming-- he even gave us a sample of turkey meat to sample!!

Diane Carole S.

Yelp
I was introduced to this neighborhood gem as a teen by my dad. The place was small, but the customers didn't care because they were entertained by a heavy set guy who passed around deli paper with freshly sliced meat to tease you. The stories told were always hilarious and it was a treat to be taken there. This weekend I wanted to get my mom a CORN BEEF special and was near the Penn relays so I drove to Koch. I was blessed with a parking space and to my surprise found the deli insides was brightly lit and very clean looking. There was a couple who must be regulars being waited on and the gentleman making their sandwiches was telling them about a TV show call "the squid games". I noticed two other men behind the counter both looked unkempt chomping on food. One at the front register and the other standing around until the sandwich maker let him know there was a demand for corn beef sandwiches as he reached in a large white plastic container at front glass counter and grabbed a hunk of fatty meat and placed it on the sandwich he was making for the couple. The gentleman slicing the meat continued and as the sandwich maker needed corn beef he dipped into the plastic container and also took from the slicer. While the sandwich guy was making my sandwich (had his back to me) i told him i did not want the fatty meat he kept pulling out the plastic container. I was asked if i wanted pickle, which i replied yes please, got the dressing on the side and went to the front to pay. While at the front I asked the sandwich maker if they charged fees for using a card and he said yes, but there is NO signage stating this (Beware). I paid in cash and as i was placing my change in my wallet, the sandwich maker left the front and one of the unkempt men, still eating food, was at the front speaking to a gentleman outside in Spanish and it seemed they were not happy with each other. I asked him for a receipt and he said they don't give receipts if you paid cash. (Wait what???!?!?!??). He then ripped a piece of paper and used a blue magic mark to indicate the $16.15 charge for the sandwich. [how ignorant]. Anywho, i will follow my first thoughts and take the drive to Hymie's or Murray's Deli to get a epic sandwich and be given a lot better customer service. NOTE: My mom's sandwich was made with the combo of much fatty meat and little newly sliced meat

Cliff H.

Yelp
I love their attentiveness to their customers and their service is great .They know how to make you feel comfortable and that is a wonderful trait. My dad brought me there years ago and years later I'm still going there.

Yelp
This Saturday night, we thought we would order a good old fashioned corned beef special. Never had ordered from Koch's before. The bill came to $50.00- With add on charges. The cole slaw had so much mayo that it was liquid. The once great rye bread was a soggy mess and fell apart. We ordered two but threw away the second because of the cole slaw and the soggy bread. I cannot imagine that others have not complained. Two corned beef sandwichwes ruined with liquid cole slaw.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Still a good place with the newer owners. I love this place and visit whenever I am in town. Penn special or Drexel special. Yeah they are $15 sandos but they also feed 2 people.

Yelp
My Fam went to Koch's about 6yrs ago. I wish I could remember his name So outgoing. So lively. He was doing several things at once giving us samples of his food. This place Was Delicious! Untill my boyfriend wanted to make me happy THIS WAS THE WORST RUBEN I EVER HAD!!!! I reminded him that I have been there several years ago and I was so happy with it, that I came back again. I am going to just fast forward to the end of what happened. I was so upset so so so very upset when I opened that sandwich. It wasn't Grilled. It was not even warm. The Ruben was 75% sauerkraut. The bottom slice of rye bread was so soggy. There was only about 10% of corned beef on there. This sandwich was supposed to be HUGE browns it up it cost about $15. Not to mention that when we got to unwrap the sandwich we were salivating for....was Terrible! It bothered me so much I made my boyfriend go back to the deli. We wrapped it up and were ready to give it back. I had to get in line again because of the Covid. It is a very very very small little deli. So I didn't mind. Put my mask on walked up to the door. The guy that was at the door asked me what was wrong so I told him. He told The guy making the food. Then, OMG!! The nice guy started screaming " What did you order? What did you order? I am make whatever you ordered!" He went crazy. I wanted my money back. I stood my ground, and I got my money back. (Also bought some chicken liver salad. That went bad the very next day.) I won't spend $15 for a sandwich of sauerkraut on rye bread. He continued yelling at me, and I just had to walk away.

Yelp
Koch's Deli (pronounced "caw-chiz" not "Cook's" as implored by the owner) truly makes the best Hot Pastrami sandwich I've ever had. It's three blocks from Penn's campus on Locust, making it conveniently located yet away from the busyness of campus. The food did take about 45 minutes to make because of the many orders they received, but it was truly well worth! The pastrami had these beautiful charred edges that complemented the tender and flavorful meat. The amount of cheese was perfect, allowing the pastrami to be the star of the show. The bread was nice and crispy, but a little bit too hard for my liking. But those pickles! They weren't TOO dill-y and quite satisfyingly paired well with the savory pastrami sandwich. I HIGHLY recommend coming to Koch's to try some delicious sandwiches. I'm gonna try the hot brisket next!
google avatar

Maddy G.

Yelp
This is my new favorite place in Philly! Mind-blowing hot pastrami sandwiches and pickles to be had here (he will cut them for you)! I really appreciated that I ordered ahead but my sandwich was still hot and crisp not soggy when I arrived. Will definitely be a repeat customer!
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Hole in the wall restaurants are usually my fav and Koch's is no exception. I will definitely be back to try more of their humongous sandwiches. Today I was completely satisfied with my choice- the hot pastrami sandwich with melted hot pepper cheese and Russian dressing. Tip: They deliver on Uber Eats! I ordered there and was treated with a sample of the pastrami when I was undecided & a pickle while I waited. Great customer service. Note there is no where to sit and eat there.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Sandwiches are smaller than I expected, but excellent. Someone else said their Pastrami is god's sandwich, but I'd designate the Penn Special for that.
google avatar

Dex S.

Yelp
Decided to stop in because I'm a big fan of great deli sandwiches. It's a little dated inside, but full of character and community support (autographed headshots and local business card displays). No problem it's a take out establishment.... and a very clean one. The owner is quite a character and very pleasant as well. The food is EXCELLENT and fresh. Healthy portions. Samples to taste. And good conversation along the way. Overall, it was a great experience. I highly recommend Koch's Deli! I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
this deli makes my favorite sandwich and it's called the Rachael. portions are generous and the different cuts of meat are all delicious. they also make smoothies and juices that are freshly blended in house. highly recommend!

David S.

Yelp
I had take out for the first time in 20+ years, since I left Penn. The new owners have expanded the menu but the quality, quanity and wait were the same. The only thing missing were Lou Koch's bad jokes.

S K.

Yelp
Stopped by from out of town twice in the last month. Once it was closed with a message scrawled on a piece of paper - maybe about being closed for a couple weeks, but impossible to read and no dates given. The second time the door was open and I went to enter only to hear a voice from somewhere shout out, simply, "closed!" The place was gutted - no deli case or counter remained. Yet, all online sources claim it's still open. Does anyone know what's going on? Is it just a renovation or is it closing for good? The fact that they provide zero information anywhere and don't answer the phone is really not cool. I don't live in W. Philly anymore and came from way out of town, twice. Please, have a little respect your customers and provide updated information.
google avatar

Gloria E.

Yelp
The owner is a bit harsh, but they made alright hoagies. The specials all have a little bit of a spin and you can customize your own sandwich. The prices are a bit inflated, it's a small storefront and there is usually a long line around lunch time and on weekends. Quality and amount of the meat was average and the veggies were fresh, but I've gotten similar quality for much cheaper in the area from pizza/sandwich places, so it was just A-OK.
google avatar

Macy S.

Yelp
Truly an experience for someone coming from down south! The sammies are GIANT! My husband and I split one for lunch and still had leftovers! Next time I would like to try a rueben, the Penn special kinda had too much sweet slaw for my tastes.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
I would put this place on par with some of the best kosher deli's I've eaten at. The owner Mr Sabbatt is friendly and quite a character. While I was waiting for my Reuben he offered me free samples; pickles, shaved ham, shaved roast beef & provolene cheese. He told me he had been in business for 65 years. The Reuben was exceptional, it was perfect, it was delicious with fresh ingredients. The only down side is there is no dine in option.
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
My wife and I went for sandwiches Sat night to tailgate at the Mann for a concert. The guy running the place couldn't have been nicer to us. Food was amazing. We will definitely be back!!! My wife had the hot pastrami special and i had the Univ of Sciences club on rye.

Yelp
Stopped by on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for a sandwich. Was greeted by man Koch himself. He was very friendly and even offered us to sample some salami. I went with the Special K on a hoagie roll with Russian dressing. By far one of the best sandwiches I had in a long time. Would recommend

Yelp
Customer service was fine the food was trash never Go there also the prices were exorbitant please save your time and your money and never go there

Yelp
It's small and tucked away in an unassuming street. Parking can be difficult and the wait during lunch time can be at least 10mins until you can order however it's soo worth the wait. They have amazing deli meats here. Roasted honey turkey never tasted so good. My personal favorite is the "restaurant school" gobbler on a hoagie. It's a mix of several different deli meats, jalapeno cheese, coleslaw and russian dressing. It is HUGE and so full of flavor. It costs about $13 but usually lasts me for 2 meals. Comes with pickles which are super fresh and crunchy. There's biggest seller is the pastrami however I never get the chance to order it because every time I can't resist getting my favorite. Pros - amazing deli meats - many many "specialty" sandwiches to choose from with amazing juxtaposition of tastes - russian dressing is da bomb Cons - bit pricey at $13 for a hoagie (however worth it) - parking is difficult - be patient b/c the wait can last at least 15mins in peak times. However overall this is the BEST deli place I've ever been to. Protip to avoid lines can call to order or via Yelp app.

Yelp
Amazing food. Must try!! Go to Koch's Deli. It's a West Philly institution, been open for over 40 years. Keep small businesses open, support the locals.
google avatar

Ian E.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here in our way out of town for an authentic Philadelphia hoagie. We were not disappointed! I got the Jewish Hoagie (with the owner's recommendation) and loved it. It was corned beef, pastrami, cheese, coleslaw, and various other ingredients, and it was amazing. The meat was tender, flavourful, and very fresh. The hoagie roll was soft and luscious. A couple things, they do take cards but remember, because they're carving the meat fresh for your sandwich, you wait a bit longer for them to make it than you would st somewhere like Subway. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Stopped in to Koch's before hitting up the local bar to watch the Flyers game. Upon entering, we were greeted with a dingy, cramped stereotypical "old school" food spot - typically a great indicator. Quickly we became accustomed to the theatrics of the maestro of the deli: uncharmingly poking fun at customers, encouraging us to try bits of meats and cheeses, casual racism, etc etc. After being made clear that there would be a wait because of a large order, we prepared ourselves. About 40 minutes later, our orders were called. Unfortunately, one of our sandwich orders was very wrong, but a replacement was quickly prepared. We took our sandwiches to the bar around the corner and grabbed some beers. I got the reuben. No additions or changes, right off the menu. Opened up the sloppily wrapped sandwich to discover an even more sloppily prepared sandwich. I get a reuben is piled high with all layers, but this was ridiculous. The proportions were all wrong and were falling out of the now soggy very average rye. After eating what I could of the crumbling sandwich, I was hoping the pickle would save the experience, but it was a poor excuse for a pickle. Sorry for the rant, but I will not be returning and never would recommend this deli to anyone.

Yelp
Im a sucker for good deli sandwiches. Koch's represents a dying breed of traditional delis that doesnt fail to deliver. The guy running the shop is also super cool! Very friendly and inviting which makes the place that much better. We had the italian and restaurant special, and i still have dreams of coming back here to grab another one. (Im from boston but frequently come back to Philly).

Yelp
My family asked me to pick up 2 corned Beef specials and this place popped up! I watched him make the sandwiches and MAN I WAS IMPRESSED!! He made 2 beautiful and hearty sandwiches. He even let me taste some of the meat. If your looking for an amazing sandwich this is your answer. This little "hole in the wall" shop has all the classics! Can't wait to come back and try a hot pastrami!

Yelp
Got the Sid & Fran. It's Whitefish Salad smothered onto pieces of smoked salmon. This is really damn good. The whitefish has an intensely marine salty flavor coupled with mayo. This goes amazingly with the dry rye bread and smoky fleshiness of the salmon. Everything about this sandwich is well-balanced, which is impressive considering the number of flavors vying for your palette's attention. I was torn between a 4 and 5 here, because $13 is too much to pay for a sandwich. This food is so good though, I don't want to give you any reason not to check Koch's out.

Yelp
Haven't been to many delis so I don't really have anything as a comparison, but I really liked the food I had here. My favorite part of the place is its obvious history - postcards and letters from regular patrons line the entire back wall, with some dating back to 1989 or before, and some written on a typewriter. It gives the place a special layer of meaning just reading letters all these people wrote to the family owners, while you wait for your sandwich to be toasted and made. On the note of making sandwiches - it does take a while for the sandwiches to be made. A friend called in to order at 7:20, and we didn't get our food until 8:05, so definitely call ahead or be prepared to wait for a bit. Even though it was around 8 when we arrived, which is when Koch's closes, there were a bunch of people waiting inside the tiny deli for their food. The person making the sandwiches offered everyone waiting inside slices of pickles and even included a few with our order on the house, which was really really nice (I've also been craving pickles that day). As for the sandwich itself (I ordered the hot pastrami), it was delightfully warm and had a simple but delicious filling of meat and cheese. The meat was cooked nicely, with the right amount of saltiness, and heated before sandwiched between the two soft slices of bread. I think the only thing about Koch's is that it's rather pricey and the portions aren't huge - I got the sandwich ($11.95) for dinner, finished the whole thing but was still kinda hungry after. It would make a really good lunch though, and the pickle makes for a great accompaniment for the sandwich.

Yelp
Sandwiches were crazy good!! We were skeptical at first look when we drove up and parked. But as they always say, 'Don't judge a book by its cover'! I got the Drexel Special: Turkey/Pastrami and spicy meat with cheese on a hoagie roll. The sandwich was HUGE! And the taste/flavor even Bigger! If you get a chance, this place is a must! I will be back very soon!!!

Yelp
Koch's charges $15 per sandwich and mixes meat and cheese and calls it "Jewish"? Offensive enough that they attach the word "Jewish" to a meat and cheese sandwich. And the chutzpah to charge $15 on top of that; not even kosher meat. Charge what you want, ridiculous price or not, but please don't call a hoagie or any sandwich that mixes dairy and meat, Jewish. That is not Jewish culinary or culturally. Be well and stay healthy.

Yelp
The food is good. the wait is far too long and the customer service is horrible. Last time I will go here.

Yelp
Koch's is the real deal! Ezra is awesome and hooked us up with some tasty treats while we waited for our delicious Philly Cheese Steaks! Seriously awesome old school deli. Looking forward to my next visit to Phili and hitting this joint again

Yelp
A little busy during the lunch rush, but worth it for the great breakfast wrap I had! Reasonable prices. Check it out!
