NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"In a slight twist on the sub-$100 omakase genre, Koete in Midtown does a lunch-time sushi omakase for $60. At dinner, the experience comes in at exactly $100 for 15 courses and an appetizer. Expect to find hamachi, torched wagyu nigiri, and toro hand rolls." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

I found this restaurant in Google Maps and chose it because the good reviews. We were not disappointed. The service is really good. Cary the manager, is friendly and she was attentive all the time in case we had questions, we did and she explained patiently. Troy the sushi chef gave us a fabulous Omakase experience. Each piece was delicious and he explained the ingredients for each one. We finished our lunch with excellent desserts. Overall a wonderful experience at an affordable price.

This new omakase place opened in April 2025 in the heart of the theatre district, servicing the after-work crowd and Broadway-goers. Diners are seated around a square counter, served on three sides by several sushi chefs who prepare a 90-minute dinner composed of one appetizer (raw oyster with ponzu and ikura), followed by 14 pieces and a handroll. The selection ranged from madai to three cuts of tuna (akami, chutoro, otoro), seared wagyu, uni handroll, and even offering some rarer fish from Japan like kinki and nodoguru (both rich and fatty), shimaaji, and kegani (hairy crab). While I found the uni portion in the handroll a bit skimpy, I was impressed that Jason, the sushi chef, brought out an entire hairy crab and expertly prepared a mini kegani don (hairy crab over rice) on the spot. The chefs and host were warm, personable, and generous -- offering complimentary pours of sake and engaging in friendly conversation. We will absolutely be returning and highly recommend the spot to anyone looking for a quality omakase experience on Broadway.

I had the pleasure of visiting this place with my friends, and it truly was an unforgettable experience. The freshness and flavors of each omakase course were simply delightful. I especially loved the Hotate scallop, Sake Salmon, and the O Toro fatty tuna—they were incredibly memorable. I can't wait to return for the dinner menu! The Yuzu Sake was a lovely touch as well. The staff made us feel so welcomed; they were not only friendly but also had a great sense of humor, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Don't miss out on their dessert menu; it’s worth it!

Koete Omakase is one of my favorite places during this trip to NYC. So happy to see NYC food culture, especially in Times Square, this tourist area finally has much variety in terms of cuisines, quality, and authenticity. After spending many days with local cuisine, we are craving Asian food to fill and find balance for our Asian gastronomic stomach. Found Koete Omakase on Google Maps and tried it with my son on Sunday afternoon during our short trip to NYC after Boston. The fish at Koete Omakase is as fresh as in Japan and the presentation of each is an art with a nice balance of taste, design, and color. I am impressed and decided to go back again tonight before flying back to HK. If you crave for authentic Omakase, great service, friendly atmosphere with reasonable price, this is the place one must try!

Having gone to a lot of nyc omakases, this one def stood out for the price point. In addition to the usual fare there were interesting fish like threeline grunt, which I really enjoyed. There were also included luxuries that usually cost extra, like caviar/gold/uni on the toro/wagyu. Maybe the best part was the staff, who were attentive, friendly, and generous in a way you often only see at higher price points. Shout out to Cassie, ”Jason Lee“, and our chef for the fun night, and the free sake and ice cream. Wish it wasn’t by Times Square, but worth checking out in a city with way too many omakases

Great new omakase that opened just a couple of weeks ago! I went with my mom, and it was phenomenal. Everything was so fresh. The service was amazing, and we loved our chef! The atmosphere was cozy and friendly. It was a great spot to grab dinner before our Broadway show.

I frequently visit omakase restaurants, often several times a week, and I have developed a clear understanding of the standards expected at this level of dining. During our recent visit to Koete NYC, my boyfriend and I noticed a few details that could be improved to elevate the overall experience. My boyfriend doesn’t eat wagyu beef, and we politely asked if it could be substituted with another fish. Unfortunately, this request was overlooked — I was served two pieces of wagyu without being asked, while my boyfriend was left without a replacement piece. Although a small detail, attention to guests’ preferences is an important part of the omakase experience and can leave a lasting impression. Additionally, unlike many other omakase restaurants, dessert was not included here, which felt a little underwhelming given the expectations for this type of dining. I would also gently note that the chef’s knife skills seemed a bit unrefined, suggesting that he may still be developing his technique. I rarely leave feedback like this, but I truly hope the management will view it as constructive. With a few improvements, Koete NYC has the potential to become a much stronger competitor among New York’s vibrant omakase scene.

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Koete Omakase. From start to finish, everything was flawless - the quality of the fish, the creativity of the courses, and the attentiveness of the chef all made this one of the best omakase experiences I've ever had. What made it even more impressive was the price point. For the level of craftsmanship, ingredient quality, and overall experience, it feels like an incredible hidden gem. Every course was thoughtful, beautifully plated, and packed with flavor. You can really tell how much pride and care goes into every detail. Koete easily stands alongside (or even above) omakase spots that charge double or triple the price. I can’t recommend it highly enough if you're looking for an unforgettable meal without the sky-high cost.
