"For the hot pot-curious crowds on the South Shore, this hidden gem in Quincy won’t disappoint. Nestled on a side street that borders some of the most exciting newly opened Asian establishments, Koi serves Chongqing-style hot pot and is known for serving its broth in a pot divided into nine equal-sized sections of varying temperatures, which allows diners to cook the ingredients based on the recommended heat intensity to prevent over-cooking." - Valerie Li Stack

Not a super shiny spot from the outside but the hotpot is truly authentic and the meats are fresh! The lobster hotpot base is absolutely delicious, must try! The waitress are super nice and kept replacing our plates as the lobster pile start piling up lol The price is not cheap but definitely worth it.

Google
Authentic Chaoshan beef hotpot, probably one of the best in North America. All meats were freshly cut and reasonably priced. We also ordered the lobster congee soupbase, which came with a chopped whole lobster, and it was heartwarming. Protip: Don’t order the spicy Sichuan hotpot here!! This is a Cantonese restaurant by its heart.

The food and service were ok. Please note unlike other shabu this place charges for dipping sauce. They also up-charge the tip with a tax included if you use a credit card. The door has a sign all credit cards (include Amex) are accepted but we’re told they don’t accept it.

KOI provided an average hot pot experience. We went with two broth options, one being tomato based and the other was a kim chi broth. The menu had a variety of veggies, meats, and seafood options which we were all pleased to have so much variety. A standout off the menu I'd recommend was the shrimp paste, which puffed up into delicious shrimp balls after bouncing around in the hot broth for a little while. Beyond the shrimp paste, you'll find most hot pot staples on the menu. As I mentioned, KOI was an overall average experience. The broth was good, menu items to add to the hot pot were good, and the restaurant decor / vibe was ok. I wouldn't go out of my way and recommend KOI for hot pot, but I'd also be fine returning at a different point in time.

Best poridge hotpot in town. The service is awesome. The waiters are very helpful and the food aelections are very freah and tasty. I love the deserts also.

Google
T Red line can directly lead you there. Broth is good, food is fresh, service is awesome! They arranged the tables and plastic curtains very considerately and make every table sort of private and away from others, feeling safe. And we end up taking all the remaining food and broth to go!

It’s now my favorite hot pot place in Quincy. Very clean restaurant with great and friendly service. The food was prepared very fast and everything was tasty! Loved kimchi broth and beef tongue.

Great place for hot pot, so delicious and has fresh and a wide variety of ingredients! Will recommend this place to everyone, a must go spot for hot pot in Quincy. Loved my waitress Ciney, she was extremely helpful.

Yelp
This was my first hot pot experience so I have nothing to compare it to but it was good for me. Vibe: Small, bustling restaurant, they have small and large tables to fit groups of 6-8. Service: The staff were all very nice and answered the questions we had. Ordering is done by checking the food you want off on a paper menu. Food: The tomyum base was very good, the mushroom base however was not very flavorful and honestly disappointing as a mushroom lover. We enjoyed the pork belly, short rib, shrimp, napa cabbage, and mushroom medley, not big fans of the beef balls and Chinese sausage. The scallion pancakes were good. I liked that they have a little sauce bar where you can mix together your own sauce and they provided some sample recipes. Value: The bill was $135 before tip for 5 people which felt reasonable, we all left full, and they were nice enough to give us tupperware on request to take the leftover soup base home. Accessibility: There was good street parking nearby although we went on Christmas Day (busy day, would recommend a reservation) so might not always be so easy to get a spot. Overall I enjoyed my meal here and would recommend.

Yelp
The named changed to Koi Seafood Restaurant... but people come here for their hot pot. I know this place opened many years but it still my first time trying it. Overpriced, not worth it. We order the basic chicken congee hot pot, the congee was too watering, never got thick at the end of the meal. Meat was fresh but other I ingredients nothing special... they say handmade cuttlefish ball, it just the ones you buy in market. It it better off to have regular hot pot than congee hot pot.

Yelp
Been to many hot pot places. This one is the best. I really enjoy the service and the tasty food here. Place is really clean. Service was fast and attentive. Owen our waiter is a superstar. Price is really affordable.. did I tell you of the big portions they give . Please come in an empty.. you will not disappoint.. 5 stars .....

Yelp
When we heard this place has a coconut chicken hotpot, it was imperative that we come and dine here. As we learnt that they may run out of the product, we were fortunate to get one. We were seated where the condiments booth were behind a few of us so we felt as though its placement could've been elsewhere just in case someone bumps into a person scooping soy sauce that can inadvertently travel forward and spill on the person sitting. Service was professional and friendly as our waitress kept checking in on our if we needed anything. When the hotpot arrived, the broth with coconut meat was already in the pot and although no fresh coconuts were opened in front us to witness actual coconut water and meat were part of the broth, we got a pretty strong coconut flavor once the broth was boiled and sipped. One of the most visually striking and appealing presentations we found hilarious and in awe was the rib eye served on a very long meat paddle (at least three and a half feet)! This definitely added to the experience since meats are typically presented on plates, not a paddle! But Koi has changed it! Definitely worth returning to - mainly for the meat paddle.

Yelp
Me and my mom were looking for a new hotpot to try out. This place had a really good portion of food. The service was really nice, they even offer to give us some advice about how to cook the meat as it was prep differently. But if I'm being honest it just straight up taste like beef slices for pho. But it definitely tasted smoother than regular beef pho slices. They only pay with cash if that's an issue for anyone. We was just taken aback cause they didn't have a sign on the front door but at the inside entrance when you leave. So we had no idea until we had to paid. Other then that, the food is good and service is great! I'll come try out the sushi next time and let y'all know if it's worth it.

Yelp
I haven't been here for quite a while, at least 3 years. Their quality has gone down a lot. From appetizers to hotpot, there's nothing that meets my expectations. Fried pork is all batter and no meat. BBQ beef and lamb skewers are also mediocre. Hotpot wise, the only food that's good is their shrimp paste and marinated spicy beef. I went there on Friday evening, it was pretty empty. For the quality and price they are offering, I'm definitely not going there again.

Yelp
I wish I could give it a 3 star but I really can't. I LOVE hot pot, but this establishment does not hit the spot. We came to Koi, because it was the only place open that did not have a wait (during COVID). This is the first time I see a place charging $12+ for soup base!!! Everywhere else is $0-$6 for specialty soup bases. Their mala soup base is pretty good not going to lie, but for the herbal, the more you boil, the more bitter it is. The herbal does taste authentic due to the bitterness, but it is definitely not what I want when eating hot pot. We had premium meat, fatty beef, and lamb. The premium meat was the most expensive and had pretty presentation (came out in a LONG wooden board), but it was my least favorite meat. It was quite chewy and dry. Their 'homemade meatballs' arent that special, very bland. I wished I went with regular premade/frozen meatballs instead. Their fried tofu skin doesnt soak up the flavor as well as other ones. Sauce is also charged per person. They do allow us to create our own sauce, but so does many other places if asked. All other foods are ok, although most are very expensive and overpriced. The only plus of this spot is that they have beef trachea. Which was the only thing I enjoyed. I came with my friend and we spent triple the amount of what we usually spend at other hot pot places, while the food is only mediocre. Nice food presentation, but I am not sure if I want to be back again.

Yelp
My family and I went here for hotpot this weekend. Everything was a la carte. Even choosing a soup base had an add-on price. We chose 1/2 herbal and 1/2 Tom yum. That itself cost $18! We ordered a dish of angus beef, prime rib, fish tofu, fish balls, watercress, spinach, spicy fish filet, taro, turnip, and 2 orders of fried tofu skin. My favorites were the fried tofu skin and fish balls. The beef dishes were just average.. It came out to be about $40/pp. We thought it was a bit expensive and prefer to go to one of the AYCE hotpot places next time..

Yelp
The KOI Japanese Cuisine is located in Quincy, Wollaston Square in the location that used to be Barry's Deli. They have totally redone the facility and it has nearly doubled in size. Parking is brutal and very limited in Wollaston Square, so be prepared to park a distance away and walk. Not the. I eat area either, so I would not go when it is dark. The food is "ok - ?" I mean there are about 5 other sushi places in the square, but these folks really seem to phone it in and provide less than adequate food. Over-priced and small portions. The place smells kind of fishy like couple day old fish. Find better.

Zihao W.

Yelp
This hot pot is the best I have ever had in Boston. For 2ppl we spend 115. Really great hotpot!

J J.

Yelp
We came here for hotpot. Their seafood was fresh, order as much as you want. Beef wasn't good that day yet it was expensive. We had lobster porridge hot pot base, I highly recommend that.

Tiffany M.

Yelp
The place has good meat, fresh vegetables, and a good broth! We enjoyed the food and the service. The only thing is that it is kind of pricey... for two ladies it cost us about $140 , and we only ordered one plate of meat and not much seafood.

Yaritza A.

Yelp
Love this spot. They have lots of options of meats, veggies, and soup bases. The staff are attentive and explain anything you don't know. It's a bit pricey than other Chinatown hot pots but i live nearby and love the food.

Yelp
If you want to try something different, want to go somewhere "foreign", and love spicy hot pot, I strongly recommend this place. It's a small ma and pa type of restaurant. My GF and I have been going here for almost 2 years now! Food: See pic (65%) Taste to price 5/5 Quality to price 4.5/5 Portion to price 2.5/5 Average = 4 Service (20%) Friendliness 4/5 Promptness 4/5 Average = 4 Cleanliness (15%) Bathroom 3.5/5 Dining area 5/5 Kitchen area 4/5 Average = 4.17 Overall Score = [F(.65)]+[S(.20)]+C(.15)] = [2.6]+[0.8]+[0.63] = 4.03 What else to know: Be ready. The prices here seems to be getting more expensive. After the price of the broth and a few items, it can easily become expensive so monitor your orders. Besides that, this is my favorite place to get hot pot. They have some things in their menu you just cannot find anywhere else in Boston. They also have a self-serve mini sauce bar (similar to Spring Shabu Shabu) that's got to be taken advantage of. My go-to sauce mix is minced garlic, chili peppers, scallions, sesame oil, soy sauce, red vinegar, and a bunch of cilantro. You can also ignore the word "sushi" in their name because there's nothing sushi about it. They actually removed their sushi menu because their customers only go there for one thing, Spicy Hot Pot! **If you enjoyed my review, follow or add me as a friend. I have tons of reviews like this.

Yelp
Worst service ever!We went there for my mom's birthday celebration on last Thursday. There was no a single person dining there . Now , I know why . We have been CHARGED 18% for the tip . Any restaurant charges you money for the tip ? Never heard about that! Also they will charge you $2 for a little bowl of sauce. Everything is way too expensive. Don't go there !

Edwin S.

Yelp
Been living in Boston for quite a few years now, and have tried a whole bunch of hotpot spots in that time. This is still my go to spot and worth the drive.

Le T.

Yelp
We ordered the 9 separator hotpot which only comes with one soup base. I would like it if we had more choices on soup. We only got the choice of mild and extra spicy. I'm disappointed because my coworker raved about this restaurant too much. To a point I was too amped to try it. I guess I sorta set the bar too high. For the three of us, dinner was $170 (with tip). The bill came with a tab of $130 labeled hotpot and there were no list of items we ordered. Was it hotpot buffet? We don't know because there were no communication between us and the waitress. Sad. Mind you, I tipped 20% despite how disappointed I was with the food and service. Good for the experience of a different type of hot pot.

Jennifer V.

Yelp
I like it here a lot, it's more authentic than most places. It is a little pricey especially the soup base!! But I like how it's quiet and I enjoy the food! I don't remember them having sushi so that's not something they have had recently. I also love the lamb kabobs

Yelp
Admittedly, I'm starting to wonder if the sushi dining market in Quincy is becoming over-saturated. I suppose it's nice that there's a new place that isn't by that Quincy Asian dining empire, so it keeps them on their toes. I don't have a problem with their restaurants and actually like them. However, competition isn't a bad thing. Anyway, I went here for a birthday dinner (thanks Mai and Jason!) on an early Saturday evening. It was quiet and finding a table was not difficult. Having traversed past this restaurant on several occasions, I can observe that it looks like it's never difficult to find a spot. We tried a variety of rolls, along with an appetizer. The truffling tuna appetizer was okay but nothing spectacular. Since it's seared on the outside and raw in the inside, I expected the tuna to be lukewarm. However, my problem was that if a restaurant's going to indicate that the tuna is "swimming in truffle butter", there better be some truffle butter taste to it. There wasn't. The rolls varied in quality and performance. I wouldn't say any of them were mind-blowing, but some were respectable. I liked the spider roll and yellowtail with scallion roll. I'm a sucker for the former, as long as there's enough soft-shell crab. The spicy scallop maki wasn't particularly special. The crazy maki was pretty good, as there was a lot of shrimp tempura in the roll. A positive, overall, is that the rolls' rice was pretty fresh. However, the rolls, overall, had too much sauce (like a spicy sauce, etc.) and that masks the taste of fish. If I wanted the taste of spicy mayo, I can get a bottle of mayo, mix with hot sauce and squeeze in my mouth. Service was acceptable, though seemingly inexperienced. It was difficult for the waiter to communicate to us about the rolls and it seemed like we had to repeat our order. However, he was a nice guy, so I'll give him a break. Prices...decent but not great. It won't be a positive deciding factor if you're choosing between here and other nearby places.

Yelp
First time review, this restaurant worth 1 star, trust me. The waitress greet me in Chinese, the hotpot menu half of items in chinese (even the soup base). 3 waitresses, 2 of them cant speak English, the other one just a little. Food tasted bad, soup way too spicy (i tasted the soup before put the food in, the soup didnt use at all). Squid balls was overcooked. Vegetables was not fresh, small and feel like they are dried. The meat WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, INCLUDED THE SOUP. Bad restaurant, shouldve read other reviews before come here. Never come back!

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Overall rating of a 3.5 Price - Soup base is too expensive for its quality. $8 for a single pot, $20 for a split pot, and for their signature 9 compartment pot, I'm assuming is $20 also. $2 per person for sauces. They have a DIY sauce bar which was pretty neat. Hotpot items were priced pretty fairly, and portion size was generous for the price. The bill racks up quickly, but I realized I don't eat a lot so the second time I went my bill for two people came out to $45 but the first time I went bill was $122 for two people. Service - The service was very decent. Water was filled regularly and empty plates were taken away quickly. The only thing I didn't like was the two times I went, they would somewhat hover until I told them what broth base I wanted. The first time I went I got half mala - half tomato, but they brought out half mala - half herbal instead. I wanted to ask them to change it but I know it would've been a hassle so I just let it be. Quality - The broth is alright. The spicy broth was way too spicy for me even though I got mild. The herbal was decent but lacked some salt. It was on the blander side. The second time I went, I got the tomato broth. It lacked tomato flavor but was full of celery flavor. Hotpot items were fresh and quality was very good. The first time I went I ordered the boneless short rib and quality was good but lacked the tender texture I get from other hotpot places when I order boneless short rib. The angus short rib quality was just like any other places that offer it. Their shrimp paste and fish paste is a must try. I enjoyed them both but wished the fish paste had more flavor. I tried one of their sushi rolls here and it was tasty but every time I grabbed a piece it would fall apart very easily. All in all, I've been here twice, so I feel like I would return only if I'm desperately craving for it. But there are much better hotpot places for a better price.

Yelp
Never try this restaurant. The manager in this place is an asshole. He tries to fix some table with tools every time we go to this place. The noise is so loud that I feel like I'm eating in some construction sites. Maybe you'll ask if he could do it when there is no customer around, but NO, because he just literally want to annoy every customer. When we complain to the waiter about this, the waiter let the manager aware of this, and the manager said:"sorry just two minutes. " And then he continues to fix the table with extremely loud noise until we left. I left the restaurant almost deaf. Dude, is your time different with mine? Or every customer in this place? Or you just so deaf that don't think it's annoying at all! I feel like every one in this restaurant including all waiter and waitress are super annoying by him, but sorry, he is such an asshole that chose to fix his damn table anyway. Don't say it's some emergency, I have been to this place for more than three times, every time he is doing that? I mean, what's that all about?! If you want to lose your hearing, definitely chose this place, you'll want to kill yourself.

Yelp
I like Koi. I recently purchases two Groupons and I'm glad I did. I like most of the dishes I try, like the spicy tuna and Koi maki, Unagi Sushi. Several of the apps are good - spicy avacado salad and miso soup. I didn't love the steamed gyoza or the Truffling Tuna. The service is good. The manager is very friendly. And best of all, I live 100 yards away (which is 200 yards closer than Fugi - so I have options!) The only downside is the lack of a liquor license.

David Z.

Yelp
Amazing hot pot! I don't know why the average review is so low! The hot pot is authentic in the sense that it is spicy and numbing, with a thick layer of chili oil which is excellent. They also specialize in hot pot that is divided into nines, which is useful since you may want to cook vegetables near the sides and meat in the center. The spicy pork is by far the tastiest meat. Highly recommended!

Cindy W.

Yelp
The most authentic Sichuan hot pot place in Boston! Amazed by it covid preparation as well

Ve T.

Yelp
We got mild for the hot pot soup base and we were sweating our balls off. The waitress had to take out some of the peppers and spice and add water to the pot. She told us the spice is different from other spice, like kimchi. This one actually numbs your tongue and you'll eventually get used to it. But no, it was very torturous eating it. If you can't eat spicy, don't come here! She was very nice though; made us this dipping sauce to clear off the spice. By the way, you make your own dipping sauce. The labels are in Chinese so ask the workers for help if you can't read Chinese. Get their fried ice cream! It's made with pound cake, so good!

Andy K.

Yelp
Yes, the place is definitely overpriced compared to nearby shabu places (and we have plenty here in Quincy). Food is OK, personnel is friendly and helpful, but with a check around $50+ for a dinner for one, you would expect something more posh. Also, the place doesn't carry a la carte hot pot combos like "surf&turf", or "4 kinds of meat", you must choose items from menu individually which means you can't go too versatile, as each individual serving is quite big. OK, they have a "seafood combo" but it's just 3 mussels, 4 pieces of fish, and a couple of imitation crab sticks and fish cakes. And OK, their vegetable combo is big enough to make a vegan lunch. Though, if you're into some strange foods like pig brains or duck feet, the place has quite wide selection in their menu. So if ever hitting the place, do it with a crowd, order about one veggie combo per 2 persons, and no more than 2 meat/seafood menu items per person. After all, you can always order more.

Emily H.

Yelp
awesome hotpot!!! really loved the 9-compartment one with 牛油,very rich soup base, very spicy and numb (probably the spiciest and the tastiest i had in the US for a while)!!! they have a great selections of meat and veggies to choose from, the lamb and beef are very fresh, only downside is it is not sliced as thinly, so it takes a bit longer to cook and could results in overcooked meat if you are not watching carefully. The portion for the dishes are good, but the price is a bit on the pricey side for hotpot, we averaged over $50/person

Catie C.

Yelp
I was on my way to lunch down the street and I noticed that Koi opened so I thought I'd give it a try and called up my friend to switch places. Contemporary, simple architecture with a new restaurant smell. Definitely can't smell the corned beef hash and eggs from Barry's that was here for ages! The sushi bar can been seen as you enter behind the dining area. Lunch is served till 3pm where as Fuji is till 4pm. The price point is a bit higher than Fuji's lunch but wider selection of luncheon items. I ordered myself a Sashimi Lunch for $10.50 for 3 slender slices of tuna, 3 slender slices of salmon and 2 slender slices of white fish. Fuji is much more generous with the cut and topped off with a tomago! With comparison aside, the soy sauce selection is not of good quality. I can tell you that it ain't Kikkoman. I don't use a lot of wasabi in my soy so I can taste the soy sauce. A freaking weird fermented taste that I wouldn't call it a delectable umami! Considered that I've used soy sauce all my life, this is the nastiest of all soy sauce that I ever tasted! So I thought that the soy sauce was ruining the taste of my sashimi, so I ate a piece without dipping. That wasn't a great alternative either. The fish isn't of any good quality. I tried to suck out the salmon taste out of the salmon, but failed. All in all, just metallic/funky and non of the taste of the species. I tried a piece of my friend's nigiri just to be sure it wasn't just my plate. I shoved the tuna in my mouth and started chewing. OMG, the rice is like supermarket rice! Can it be any harder? I understand that it's normal to use yesterday's rice during lunch; but can you at least keep it soft and moist!? My friend said his cali roll tasted funky after a couple pieces. Really? Even imitation crab meat can be funky? So I suspect the sushi bar itself is not sanitary - glove, knife, board or towel? As for the service, it was at most OK. There was no soy sauce on the table. The hostess was too busy yawning and staring out the window and server was no where to be found so we grabbed our own soy bottle from the station so we could started eating our lunch. I'm sticking with Fuji around the corner for my luncheon routine.

Yelp
This place is really great! I pass by a lot of times and I finally went in and get a pick up. I got Hotate Hokkaiyaki, this one is really good! At another places, the taste is too light, but this one the taste is just right. Then I got a sashimi sampler, the fish is really fresh! And their sause is not too strong. I was sitting there for about 20 mins, the front desk would offer me a drink and talk to me to make me feel a lot comfortable. And while i look around, the waitress seem really nice too, they talk to the customers politely and they always smile. And finally, when I got home, I check my order, I got everything that I needed. This is really a good restaurant, I definitely would come back again!

Sarah A.

Yelp
Close walk from the Wollaston T stop and had the best ambience/ vibe of the places we scoped in this area. We were a little taken back when we asked to be seated and were informed there was no sushi available and even more astonished when we tried to order a salad and learned there were no salads available. I ordered a bunch of gyoza an interesting eggplant app and some spring rolls for a meal and my friend had the katsu chicken and some octopus appetizer. Gyoza and spring rolls were good and the katsu chicken was on point. I'd skip the eggplant and octopus next time. Prices were very reasonable but the best thing about this place is the cool vibe and relatively chill and quiet atmosphere. It's a good volume to hold conversation and it has a relaxed, cozy. We never felt rushed or cramped. We will definitely be back! Would love to try the sushi and salads... when available.

Gina P.

Yelp
Good sushi. Reasonable prices. Very nice staff! The only thing that kind of slacked was the service. They were a little slow. All in all though- i would return again in the future! Philadelphia roll was great! As well as avocado. Big pieces! Try the yellowtail-yummy!

Ling C.

Yelp
I didn't comment on eating at the outside restaurant, but this hot pot restaurant really made me angry. I've been eating this hot pot restaurant. I've been licking the toilet for a night. I'm diarrhea several times. I'm going to collapse. It's too scary.

Sylvia C.

Yelp
Finally came in for dinner. Staff was quick to greet. Place was somewhat busy not packed. We were able to get a table right away. Service was okay. A little mess up on our order but it was easily fixed. The sushi quality was alright - think the knife skills were a bit lacking (found scales in several pieces of sashimi). Presentation was nice. Overall a bit overpriced. Noticed several nearby tables had ordered some hot pot. Maybe we'll go back to give that a shot.

Meg D.

Yelp
I got take out from here, got an order of pan fried goyza, spicy tuna roll, and a crazy roll. Goyza- the dumplings were very tasty, seasoned well, dough was cooked well. It had a peanut dipping sauce, similar to Thai style, it was odd, but worked. The rolls are very small! Please see pictures I posted. Spicy tuna - no spice was harmed in the making of this roll. I dont have a high tolerance to spice, so when I am looking for spice in something, thats not a good thing. The crazy roll - it is defined on their menu as shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, roe and spicy mayo. I got the shrimp and veggies as mentioned, and then I got a little cup of spicy mayo, with eel sauce on the bottom of it?? Im not a fan of DIY sushi. It was weird and messy, I ended up schmearing the mayo on the individual piece with a chopstick. The rolls were fresh and tasted good, I just wished they weren't so small and the mayo was put on the roll for me.

Yelp
Their hotpot isn't bad but their prices are such a turn off; what a shame. $8 per broth is a very hefty price tag for average broth. Their seafood broth and spicy broth are both decent; seafood was good but nothing spectacular and the spicy broth wasn't spicy enough at mild. There are no hotpot combos, strictly a la carte so you can easily rack up the bill without realizing it. Their angus is high quality and worth it but their beef tongue is too thickly sliced for my preference. They claim their fish paste is homemade but it takes store bought so I wasn't a fan. Their meatball with cilantro was interesting but I didn't like that the meatball was so dense. Seafood and veggies are fresh and they serve shrimp with the head on which is my moms favorite and apparently hard to find at hotpot joints in Quincy. Overall, it was a good experience but I don't see myself returning for hotpot because it simply is not worth it.

Yelp
Best hot pot in Boston for sure. Very authentic chengdu style hot pot and what's more the dishes are so creative and delirious !!!

Yelp
Everything was overpriced and portions weren't very big. For a table of 2, our bill came out to be $100 (including tip). Please also note that we are not big eaters so... yeah, expensive. We got the split hotpot - mala and mushroom. The mushroom broth didn't taste nor smell like mushrooms. Instead it was more of the herbal broth...it was a first time experience. Would not visit again.. OH and you have to pay for sauces which wass never mentioned to us until we found out on the bill

Yelp
Food is good, service is great, this place is very clean and roomy atmosphere! I will recommend to come back to try out other items on there menu.

Yelp
This review is for delivery only. I was impressed with my sushi lunch from Koi! The delivery arrived fast and the miso soup was still warm. I ordered a maki lunch (Philadelphia & Alaskan rolls) which comes with your choice of maki & a salad. To make the delivery minimum, I also ordered miso soup, edamame, and idaho maki. All the food was delicious & the maki with fish tasted fresh. I'd order food from Koi again.

Yelp
"Not a complete fail." That's a pretty high compliment from my boyfriend. This place is so new that you can still smell the paint on the walls. The decor is pretty. We've walked by it for weeks wondering what it was going to be until the sign went up. So one rainy night after it opened we grabbed a menu to order take out. The selection of fish isn't great and the prices on some of the dinners are a little high compared to other sushi joints in the area. We end up ordering four of the special rolls: Kappa - I didn't really like this one. The cucumber wrap did not hold together at all, and the ponzu dressing was a bit strong. Caterpillar - This roll looked lovely and was pretty good. You can't really go wrong with eel! Sadly, the avocado wasn't as ripe as we prefer. Rainbow - It looks very nice and tastes OK. There's nothing special about the flavors. Not my favorite roll and not sure we'd get it again. Spicy Crispy Tuna - This was probably my favorite of the four. It's not chopped tuna, like you usually see with spicy tuna. Rather, the tuna piece is on top and the crunchy tempura flakes and spicy mayo is in the middle of the roll with roe and cucumber. I though the ingredients balanced pretty well. They used just the right amount of spicy mayo where most sushi places use too much. Total was a tad under $40. Rolls are reasonable sizes. Ginger is not homemade, but it's not the fake pink stuff either. Take out comes with a disposable soy sauce dish! We'll consider coming back to try more of the menu. CASH ONLY for now.

Yelp
I always thought this place was only sushi!! But we came here for the mala hot pot one night and my life has been transformed since then. Their mala soup is addictingly delicious, and you can adjust the level of spice according to your preference (they will add more for you too if you need it!). I recommend starting with mild spice and adding more after that for first timers cuz it can get pretty numbing on the tongue. I also love how they have a make your own sauce bar! I get to add as much peppers as I want into my sauce without feeling bad having to ask the waiters for more! Only downside is that it's a huge splurge for hot pot ($75 before tip) for two people. You're paying $10 for the small pot, even more if you get their special # pot, and then it's $2/person for the soup on top of that. And a la carte for whatever you want to order for food. They give pretty big portions, but still a dent in the wallet.

Yelp
Tooooo expensive. They charged $8 for one soup flavor. They are the first hot pot restaurant charged me $2 for the sauce. Basically, everything is overpriced. The spicy soup was too spicy for my taste. The herbal soup was too bland. Do not come here unless u have a lot of money to spend.

Yelp
Food Food is excellent for its price range. Their rolls are rolled tight and their sashimi is fresh. Rolls have excellent ration of product to rice. Hence mostly product and not overly drenched in mayo, etc. Bento Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Box is well portioned. It comes with rice, salad, tempura sweet potatoes, fried dumpling, miso soup and an orange. I would recommend that tempura sauce has a little less vinegar. Sashimi is fresh and served at a good temperature. *This review is to reflect other sushi restaurants in this price range. Remember I am not comparing this restaurant to Gari, Soto, etc for you sushi snobs. Service Wait staff are genuinely kind and personal. Never seems robotic and quickly responds to requests and refills water. I have only gone for lunch with coworkers no never had to wait. Also their takeaway is always accurate. Environment KOI seems to be a small family owned restaurant. It does not try to be anything that its not. The outside is clean and recently remodeled. The restaurant is kept really clean inside. The tables are dark wood and seem fairly new. The chairs are in good condition though I personally find the backrest a bit to reclined. Tables are well spaced. One thing I would change is hiding the shelves above the computer. They appear worn and looks like Ikea furniture put together backward. KOI does not have private parking or valet for dinner. Street side parking can be tight in this area. The unisex bathrooms are clean and soap and towels were towels where present. Soap in the bathroom is always reassuring. Value Lunch bento box is an incredible value for roughly $8. The sushi and sashimi is pretty good value and decent quality for its price.

Yelp
All the material are pretty fresh. tried the spicy pot yesterday with friends, pretty good, the bone soup is ok but this is a place for spicy, so i would definitely go there when I m crave for spicy hotpot.

Yelp
I went here a few times this summer for lunch. The food is great, the atmosphere is comfortable. I will definitely recommend for dining spot in wollaston.

Yelp
Flavor is rich but the meats were just so so, for two ppl we over-ordered and koi is definitely pricy, same price as a having buffet

Yelp
Hotpot! Come here for the sichuan hotpot, not the sushi. If you are up for a spicy meal, order the sichuan spicy soup and have them make it with the extra spice. You have a choice of either a pot split in half or split into nine sections. A large variety of hotpot items are available, including rarely seen ingredients shown only in chinese like pig's throat and duck's intestines. Price is closer to $$$ than $$. Soup itself was $20 and pushed our bill for 5 people to $210. Also note that they only take up to 3 cards, so if you have to split for the 3 ways bring cash. They do not take reservations so it's first come first serve. Parking is available in the back and on the street (free after 6pm).
