12 Don’t-Miss Dumpling Destinations in San Jose and the South Bay

"Koi Palace, one of the Bay Area’s legacy Chinese restaurants, serves an array of dim sum, live seafood, and roast meats. The restaurant first opened in Daly City in 1996 by two brothers who immigrated from Hong Kong and had a passion for Cantonese cuisine. Top sellers include the pork and shrimp siu mai, the shrimp har gow, and the rainbow xiao long bao, while the most popular family-style dishes are the soy sauce chicken and roast duck. The company currently has three locations in the Bay Area, with another coming soon to Cupertino." - Cathy Park

25 Essential South Bay Area Restaurants

"Since opening its doors in 1996, Koi Palace has expanded to multiple locations throughout the Bay Area, serving a variety of Cantonese dishes. The restaurant, inspired by the experience of enjoying fresh seafood from live tanks in Hong Kong, has no shortage of dim sum options, including pork and shrimp siu mai, shrimp har gow, and, of course, the iconic Shanghai soup dumplings. Koi Palace is well-suited to serve large groups, as it’s known for its bustling tea house atmosphere, banquet offerings, and large shareable entrees, including seafood dishes made with crustaceans from the tanks." - Paolo Bicchieri, Cathy Park

Always busy and crowded. We (2 people) came here at 12:45pm and waited for about half an hour to be seated. Ordered a lot of traditional dim sum that we will usually order at similar restaurants. The food is good but not that impressive. Some of the dishes are a bit too sweet for me. The service is really efficient. And the portion size is big. For 2 people, 4 dishes are definitely enough. Overall it is worth a visit.

Google
Attended a banquet dinner last weekend. The food is delicious and very authentic Cantonese style. Always love their dishes and quality of food. The service team was great, frequently changing dishes throughout the night. Great restaurant for celebration and their dim sum is also very good. Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if you are looking for good Cantonese style dishes.

Google
Koi Palace is definitely a solid choice when you're craving dim sum, and it rarely disappoints. While it’s on the pricier side, the quality of most dishes is really on point. Some, like the black bean clams, didn’t quite live up to expectations. Also, the portion size for things like the tripes could be better—though it looked like a good amount, a lot of it was just green onions under the meat. The service, unfortunately, could use some improvement. We had to flag down a waiter to check on an order we hadn’t received, and while they offer tea, we didn’t get water unless we asked. Plus, sauces and dipping bowls only came when we requested them. Overall, it’s a great spot for dim sum, but there’s room for improvement.

Google
Hmm the service is ok, but the food is really not the best. Perhaps it’s dinner and brunch dim sum would be much better. Crab meat with tamago tofu was way too salty for me to handle. BBQ pork was a joke where EVERY piece was dry. The only dish I was impressed was duck meat with corn stir fry, but looks like an easy dish to cook at home! Other dish like roast duck, and beef chew fun were ok, average level. Indeed, their free appetizer and dessert were their best dishes tonight. Would I come here again? For brunch, maybe. For dinner, sorry. Ah, don’t forget there is a mandatory 18% service fee.

Google
We tried their dim sum and it was delicious! We went there twice, but they don’t serve dim sum at dinner time. There’s a long line for dim sum, so make sure you get there early

Google
I forgot to takeoff pictures of the food items that we ordered, but it is Dim Sum, so I believe you already have the ideas. Lunch for weekend is always busy, if you come around 11:00 AM you may get a table right away. After that you may need to wait! The food is just average cantonese dim sum, nothing fancy or special about it. They have some special set menu are pretty pricey. The restaurant is pretty noisy, you really can’t have conversations when dining there. Very typical Chinese restaurant dining experience.

Google
One of the best dim sum places I ever had. You can find innovative flavors beyond the traditional standard dim sums. The 肠粉 is the best of the best. The roasted duck very worth the price and delicious. Everything we had was very good and delicately made. The portions were decent. The service was just okay because it is always busy. Make sure you go early or make reservation by app. We had to wait for 40 min on Saturday noon.

Google
We loved all the dimsum dishes we got here - har gow, shumai (2 orders), the pan roast chives dumpling, and roasted duck. The one dish that I thought was the weakest was the BBQ pastry puff - the puff was just too dense, not puffy and did not melt in my mouth. Service was prompt and efficient. We will come back to visit again, we will order everything again except the BBQ pastry puff.

Yelp
My family had a nice lunch on Sunday. Weekends here are especially busy. We had reservations and preordered on of their various set menu. Deposit required. The service was excellent and very attentive as we were in a secluded side room away from the noisy main dining area. At first some of the family members were like, "why are we away from everybody else?" But in the end we all enjoyed that it was more quiet and intimate as we were celebrating a birthday. *Suckling Pig BBQ Combo Platter (4/5). Crispy skin on the tender meat. Delish! *Stir-Fried Scallops & Tender Beef Cubes w/ XO sauce (4/5). Overall, the dish was good. The beef was tender though not as tender as I was thinking. But that's just me. *Deep Fried Rice Crepe Rolls stuffed w/Shrimp Paste (4/5). The netting was crispy yet delicately and the shrimp paste was cooked perfectly. *Crab Meat & Bamboo Pith Soup (4/5). Reminded me of sharks fin but it wasn't. *Braised Abalone w/ Fish Maw (4/5). The Abalone was good. Personally, I enjoyed the fish Maw and mustard Greens more. *Shanghai Style Crab - 2 Taste (4/5). The first taste was the usual lightly deep-fried with salt, pepper & garlic. The second taste was crabmeat cooked with fluffy egg white topped with a liquefied egg yolk. *Hand Roasted Crispy Chicken (3.5/5). No frills. It was good but nothing special. *King Neptune Seafood Fried Rice w/Gravy (3/5). This was ok. *Catch of the Day (Sea Bass 5/5). The fish was nicely steamed and flaky with no too many tiny bones. The soy sauce/oil is what you'd expect in a good tasting steamed fish dish with the aromatics. *Black Sesame Dessert (4/5). This was a pleasant change. We all were expecting red bean but they did not have it and brought this out. *Custard Buns (3.5/5). Nice and hot just coming off the steamer. Good! Unfortunately, I didn't catch the server's name but he provided excellent service like I said. But also gave a bowl of grass jelly dessert to replace the black sesame because somebody in our party has a nut allergy. We had a great time together and celebrated some family events.

Yelp
We went to Koi Palace for my mom's birthday on a Friday night, and it wasn't too busy. Known for dimsum and other classic Chinese dishes, Koi Palace provides food that has a very familiar taste and feel if that's what you grew up with. It is on the pricier side, but we really enjoyed their Peking duck set which included a soup, Peking duck, fish maw, and two dishes for four people. We also chose to get the geoduck which was $44 per pound at the time, and it was done very well! I think it was a bit more expensive than other places, but worth a try if you want something a little nicer!

Yelp
Been going here for years now. We always end up getting the same thing. Our goto favorites are the shui mai and har gow dumplings. Our other favorite is the shrimp rice noodle! The fried rice comes in a big potion so we always take some for home. We recommend adding their house chili sauce, it is so good!
google avatar

Claire Y.

Yelp
There is a reason this place is always packed- their dim sum dishes are creative and have many options (check out this black sesame roll) in addition to the typical dim sum offerings. Pricing is higher tiered but the quality and creativity makes it worth it. I've also been here for a special event and the set menus were great as well. Awesome all around~

Yelp
We ordered some specials which I didn't really care for, but the standard menu items were delicious! Although the restaurant was very large, we still had to wait for a table. The restaurant was very busy, so it can be a little difficult to get the attention of the wait staff, but once we did, they were very accommodating to all our requests. This place is great for small and large parties and is pretty noisy.

Yelp
Mother's Day weekend was so packed. Waited an hour and had to see at the bar ambiance. Food choices are still worth the wait. Service was prompt as usual. We still enjoyed the large menu selections. Great for family gatherings.

Yelp
Our son and his fiancee picked this venue for their wedding banquet and they rented out the whole space which was lovely and intimate for about 200 guests. It's a good place to have your wedding banquet and I hadn't had some of these dishes they ordered for the banquet in ages, like shark fin's soup, roast suckling pig with crispy skin, lobster fruit salad (very unusual but tasty), sea cucumber with vegetable and abalone. The food was good and service was attentive. Although the ceiling isn't very high, the lion dance group we hired adjusted and did a great job. We enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere!

Yelp
Solid classic dim sum place; what you envision going out with your family to meet your parents' friends and not make eye contact with their kids. Some brief notes: 流沙包 and the har gow are okay, as is the abalone hor fun. The noodles themselves are fine but the abalone is small. That said, the gai lan is stir-fried well to keep a its beautiful greenery. 鳳爪--soft, chewy, meat comes off easily. 咖啡排骨--very good. crispy. Good coffee flavor, and I would come back for this. I just wish that the sauce might be poured over the top after plating; this ensures that it's distributed better. 空心菜 executed well. Pity about the grey broth, but I prioritize flavor over appearance, and I've always like the hollow stem texture. 山竹牛肉球--good texture. Bouncy. Always a dim sum favorite. The 腸粉 in general have good rice texture; it's has a bit of a bite and isn't soggy. I like the default (youtiao keeps crispiness and adds contrast). Pork 粥 forgettable, but does the job. Sometimes, that's all that's needed.

Yelp
3.5-4 stars 5 stars for the variety of dim sum dish options - they have quite a large selection to choose from and most items come out hot and quick 4 stars for the quality -some items were only ok taste-wise (spareribs were a bit chewy vs fall off the bone and fried dough balls did not have enough filling) 3 stars for the price - quite pricey per dish 3 stars for the typical Asian restaurant cranky service -annoyed looks whenever we asked for anything like water, condiments, napkins, hot water refill for the teapot, etc.

Yelp
Came here to catch up w her friend for her bday, definitely an upscale Chinese spot and the prices reflect that. + huge place with lots of seating and since we came on a weekday didn't need a res, seems good for big groups or lunch spot for coworkers + nice ambiance + food was good, we got har gow, fried rice and honey walnut prawns, overall feels pretty authentic + loved the free mango custard dessert - our service was a bit slow and it felt a bit unclear who our waiter was

Yelp
It's rare that I eat and not take photos. I was hungry which explains the latter. I used to rave about this restaurant prior to my Yelp days. I don't know what happened but I'm not impressed with their Peking duck and Roast pork royale. Service was adequate on a Saturday late lunch (~2pm). Our party of 6 was seated immediately and they even asked us if we wanted a larger table. This used to be the fancy Chinese restaurant that you proudly take your out of town guests. For this area, it's between Koi, Mayflower or H&L Peninsula. Here's my quick breakdown. My apologies for no photos this time. + Service is lightning fast on this day. They even gave us 2 pots of tea, and my water refilled timely. Their kitchen closes at 3pm but we didn't feel rushed. (5 stars) + Ambiance is not as fancy as H&L but spacious tables and seating arrangements make it a good place to chat with out of town guests. (4 stars) + Dim sum here is on the pricey side but the picture menu is helpful and everything dim sum related is great except... (3.5 stars) - Shanghai dumplings' skin were too thick and barely any soup and meat because of it. (2.5 stars) - Peking duck this time was disappointing lacking flavor around the skin and a little fatty instead of the usual crisp. (2 stars) - Pork royale is their version of roast pork that you see hanging at Chinese bbq places. Here it is on the leaner side which I normally don't mind but it also lacked flavor and the pork meat had an off-sour taste. I didn't get sick so maybe it's just their way of preparing it. (2 stars) - Vegetable dish the wifey ordered had this watery/creamy soup around it and some fancy bean that I did not enjoy. (1 star) I may just come back solely for their dim sum. I also wonder if we ordered wrongly. I've had nice meals here before so it could be just a bad day.

Yelp
Back from Dubai and I'm craving dim sum. Yelp has Koi Palace as 3 stars however I choose to give them 4 due to great service and my party enjoyed all the food. I've been to the Daly City location but it's been years and since I was in the South Bay, why not? I'm pretty much good in ordering by looking at pictures then reading the description lol so yeah let's order it all! My favorite was the scallop dumplings and har gow which did not disappoint. This location is super clean and gets packed quick on a Sunday. Quick service and good food, what more can you ask for?

Yelp
Koi Palace gives off upscale fancy hotel restaurant vibes with its new updated interior and uniforms on the waiters. But it still encapsulates the bustling hectic family owned dim sum restaurant vibes. Food is nothing amazing but good dim sum. No longer does the carts and everything is ordered off a menu. Expect long waits especially at peak lunch time.

Yelp
A really good place for Cantonese dim sum. Service is good. The place is very clean and the ambiance is that of a huge dining hall for dim sum. Very good dishes, and while not at the top for every dish they did have some amazing flavors. It looks like we will have to go try some other items on the menu. Meanwhile, while overall a decent experience, ther were items that could be better. The congee was just ok in flavor and required putting extra pickled vegetables and peanuts and white pepper to make it actually flavorful, which is odd when you think of the ox tails in it would have made a very tasty broth. The custard pies just are lacking in lamination...not very flaky. The greens were basically just pan fried with little flavor. The fried tofu was very soft on the interior but the exterior was just a little firmer than the interior, where I was expecting a bit of crunch. The shao long bao soup dumplings seemed to have very little soup, even though served individually in small aluminum foil pastry pockets, and there was not so full of flavor. The chicken feet were ok in terms of flavor, but seemed like they could have been more tender compared to other dim sums I have had.

Yelp
I have been here since I was a kid, and every single time, even though the wait is long, I would say this restaurant is worth it because of the good quality food!

Yelp
I love Koi Palace!! This is my favorite dim sum spot in the South Bay because it hits the spot every time. My family generally gravitates towards the same dishes, but it's all very consistent each time we go. Another thing I love is that they take reservations (sometimes you do have to wait a few extra minutes), but if not the wait times can be pretty long here. Recommend dishes: - deluxe chicken with sticky rice in lotus leaf (my absolute FAVORITEEEE dish. A lot more flavorful and has a ton of filling compared to other places) - fried glutinous dumplings with pork - shiu mai (obv) - grilled chive and shrimp dumplings

Yelp
The BEST value banquet hall for large parties in the Bay Area. I hosted a wedding banquet here for 100 people and the price, flexibility, and food were all top notch. Shoutout to Joe Xu for being the best restaurant manager!! We got Menu B which was $60 per person for 10 courses including pork, beef, duck, abalone, and custard buns. All the food came out hot and fresh for 10 tables and there was SO much food that everyone had leftovers. Joe was super responsive and accommodating to all our requests like chilling alcohol ahead of time and last minute headcount changes. No corkage fee was a big plus for us because we could get all our beverages at Costco. I highly recommend Koi Palace for all your banquet needs!

Yelp
How it works here - they give you a pencil and paper. Mark what you want. As simple as that. The specials came on the long receipt paper. Overall Food - decent. Good for the price Fried rice is a huge portion btw. Way too much to finish between two people. Service - mid. Waiters are not attentive to your table bc they're so busy, you'll have to flag them down for sure. The bussers are on top of it though and will actively refill water and clear your tables.

Yelp
I used to frequent this place years ago when it used to be ABC/ Mayflower and I still come to this place every time I dare to deal with the wait or the parking. :) Stopped by here for a family dinner and was sure to make reservations beforehand to make it easier. Place is beautifully decorated and the service is fast and friendly. I love the variety of dishes they have and that they are always well seasoned compared to most places that are always too salty. One of my favorite dishes is the beef steak with mushroom saute. It comes with a very nice rich black bean sauce and the perfect textured, mushrooms and green beans. Though the menu is quite extensive, there's probably something for everyone on here but do know it is a little pricier but the quality is top notch. Would recommend for banquets or a special gathering.

Yelp
Koi palace is a classic in the Bay Area for dim sum and cantonese cuisine. We came out for dinner and had a great meal. They were having a wedding going on so it was quite lively. We started with geoduck cooked two ways- one with salty egg pumpkin. Yam leaf vegetables in broth. The beef dish was recommended by the waiter and was delicious and very tender. We also had the lobster yee mien which is a classic Cantonese dish. Service was on point and everyone was very attentive, friendly throughout the evening. For dessert we had complimentary dessert red bean soup and almond jello. We also got complimentary egg custard steam buns! Amazing experience. Ambience was classic and elegant. Parking lot right in front but can get busy during dinner. Definitely a must go for classic cantonese or dimsum experience.

Yelp
Have been here numerous times for dim sum and dinner, and just realized that I have never written a review. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated. Service is average, typically for a Cantonese restaurant. They have a large selection of dim sum and food is very good in general. The BBQ meats are also excellent. Came here with a few friends for dim sum recently and was able to try a variety of items. Shrimp dumplings were very tasty, the skin was not too thick. Their rice rolls had a very nice texture. And my favorite was the Hand Roast Suckling Pig with really crunchy skin. Their dim sum quality and selection is probably the best in the Bay Area.

Yelp
Tried Koi Palace (Milpitas) a few times and even their boujee location in Cupertino. Both are really good but if you don't care too much about the fancy items then this location is still very much satisfying. This location can get really packed so the safest bet is getting there right when they open. They have online reservations through Yelp but the morning of might not be available and only during the evening. If you plan eating early then it's best to go when they open. The line starts to form even before they open. Shrimp Rice Rolls - good texture and taste. Har Gow - I would say the same regarding taste and texture. dough is nice and chewy. Sampan Style Crispy Har Gow - deep friend har gow? How interesting and good! Had these the very first visit and would order again. Shui Mai - good. always a must order. Pork Dumplings in Chili Sauce - I didn't care too much for these here. Peking Style Steam Chive Pork Dumpling - one of my favorites on the menu! I could order a few rounds of just this. Rainbow Sampler Shanghai Dumplings - these are a must order every single time. I thought regular XLB were it (they still can be!) but to try different flavors for each soup dumpling is fun and delicious. It comes with 6 different flavors and ALL very good but my absolute favorite is their squid ink black truffle. Con - the carrot they place under the dumpling. I understand why (so the soup dumplings do not stick to the spoon) but it does have a carrot after taste. The spoon gives it a nice aesthetic and convenient for the soup inside but it's extremely hot to pick up. The dumpling itself could be cooled down enough to eat but the spoon is still so hot. This is such a great place to get your dim sum fix because they have so many options. Including some unique items can't find anywhere else. Aside from dim sum they have a large selection of specialty items/dishes and some are not even on the menu. Tons to choose from! Love this spot!

Yelp
Delicious fares, good decor, attentive services. Yes, it is a dim sum place. For that, it is loud and busty. This place has also shown a bit age in worn carpet and bathroom facilities. If we overlook those, it remains the top choice for lunch dim sum for me. Decor is elegant, catering more to Chinese. The tea was served in two stages: a steeping pot and nice porcelain tea pot sitting on top of a warming tea candle base. That's really nice. (The tea itself was ordinary.) The Durian puffs were excellent (for those into Durian). They were a whole piece of Durian wrapped in a thin crispy pastry dough. Warmed to perfection! That's what earned this place the 5th star! Then the Gui Fei Clam Sauce Vermicelli" 貴妃蚌煎米粉 was simply superb. The vermicelli was fried crispy and the filling was flavorful, rich, and tender. Oh, that's the 2nd reason for the 5th star. The rest of the dim sum dishes were good, but less extraordinary. The creative Sesame Egg Tart were not that impressive as the sesame aroma was weak and overpowered by eggs. Also they were not bad, I wouldn't venture into that.

Yelp
Overall (5/5): Koi Palace is a top-tier spot for dim sum and Cantonese cuisine, offering an elevated dining experience with great food quality. While the prices may be slightly higher than your average dim sum place, the space is well kept/designed and the food is great. Ambiance (5/5): The restaurant looks pretty ritzy with traditional Chinese elements. The seating arrangement is spacious and perfect for large family gatherings or just a night out for 2. Service (5/5): The staff is attentive and efficient, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience even during peak hours. They're quick to refill tea, take orders, and deliver dishes. I've yet to have any issues with service, however if you go during the morning while it's very very busy just expect the need to flag someone down. Food (5/5): BBQ Pork (5/5): The char siu is caramelized, with a sweet and savory glaze that's both rich and balanced. The meat is tender and juicy, with a healthy amount of fat. A bit salty though so I'd pair it with some rice or something. Fried Rice (5/5): Their fried rice is a comforting classic done right. Cook on the grain is consistent. The mix-ins--whether shrimp, BBQ pork, or vegetables--are always fresh and well-portioned, making it a good dish to share. Xiao Long Bao (3/5): The dumpling could use some improvement with broth portions and I prefer a stronger black vinegar. Flavor wise they are just fine but not typically how I enjoy my XLB. Shumai (5/5): The Shumai here are plump and nicely portioned. They're also great, and love that they offer very spicy mustard to enjoy it with. Har Gow (4/5): Koi Palace's Har Gow is pretty standard and not anything amazing, but a dimsum must have. They do the classic well so no complaints.

Yelp
Wondering if I should give 3 stars because a too high of a rating would scare all the actual Asians away. I think it's one of the better dim sum places, probably more authentically. It even has Asians in the back trying to steal tables. Overall, it's decently priced and dim sum is 8/10 canto.
google avatar

Yelp
Koi Palace is one of my favorite South Bay dim sum spots. They get really busy on the weekends so be get there early. They are a bit pricey, so you're gonna spend about $45ish per person. And I believe the gratuity was included. About 2-3 items per person should do it. I recommend getting porridge and fried shrimp balls.
google avatar

Phong T.

Yelp
Koi Palace is a large Chinese restaurant known for its wide dim sum selection. I have visited the restaurant about thrice in the last two years and it has been an okay experience overall. PARKING Although there's a private lot, there are not enough parking spaces in the plaza to accommodate all the businesses. If you're lucky and patient, you might find one during the weekend. ATMOSPHERE The restaurant tends to be moderately noisy due to its size and popularity, especially during the weekends when it's busy. SERVICE I appreciate the prompt and attentive service at Koi Palace. The staff really hustles, especially during peak times. DIM SUM While Koi Palace offers a good variety of dim sum, I've found the quality to be inconsistent. Some dishes are enjoyable, but others are not up to par. Compared to other places in the Bay Area, the dim sum here is mediocre at best.

Yelp
Genuinely think this place is pretty decent! Got here right when it opened--0 mins wait time on a Saturday morning for a party of 4. They don't have carts for dim sum, but their food is still piping hot and fresh from the kitchen. I loved their siu mai the best! They have good variety here. Something that just wasn't it for me: their XLBs were extremely sweet and didn't have enough soup. Their green beans were extremely salty, like someone dumped spoonfuls of salt on them. In contrast, their preserved egg and pork congee was too salt-less! Lacked a lot of flavor. I love how they have tea pots, then they give you an extra pot of water with a little candle under to keep it warm until you're ready to refill your teapot! For 4 people, the bill came out to be about $200 total after tax and tip, which isn't bad considering how much we ordered! On another note, the actual restaurant itself was pretty looking! Modernized interior and decor, clean chairs... but their bathroom was a little janky. One of the sinks didn't work and it didn't look like it had been thoroughly cleaned in a while. Clashed with the elegant dining aesthetic.

Yelp
Came here yesterday with some friends for dim sum. My husband and I had never been to dim sum before so our friends did all the ordering. The restaurant was lovely and the service seemed good. We like most of the food that our friends ordered. Over all it was a very pleasant dining experience.

Yelp
I grew up coming to Koi Palace for Sunday morning dim sum, but it had been a long time. I can't remember ever coming for dinner. It was one of the few restaurants we could reserve ahead of time for 7 people, which was nice. The dinner menu is all entrees, and there are a few dim sum items listed under Appetizers. We ordered the siu mai, har gow, roasted duck (half), yang chow fried rice, crispy noodles with seafood and green beans. Stand-outs were the duck and crispy noodles. Service was a bit slow since they were accommodating large parties (looked like a wedding reception). It's also pretty noisy and hard to so we were shouting across the table a bit. For 6 adults, the total came out to around 36$ person (and we took home leftovers). Not the cheapest, but it's nice for a group occasion. At the end of the day, we would come back for the food, especially if we have a big group. The breakfast/lunch dim sum carts are probably more fun though.

Yelp
Really good dim sum! I heard that there's usually a long wait but we came here on a Saturday morning right at opening and did not have to wait at all. The food came out really quickly - maybe even too quickly because we quickly ran out of room on our table. They have the staple dishes and a variety of options on the menu. Each dish was tasty and the portions were pretty big. I would say this place is great for large gatherings and is one of the better authentic dim sum places I've been to!

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday morning 11:30a for a company lunch. The parking was a little confusing but I eventually made it up the stairs to find the restaurant. My coworkers ordered the works - lobster pasta (supposedly a wedding favorite), BBQ pork, crab soup dumplings, sautéed Chinese broccoli, shrimp wontons, pork buns to name a few. The food was fresh, came out very fast, and not too salty! My favorite items were the BBQ pork (the best I have ever had) and the shrimp and mushroom dumplings. I would definitely come again, but it helps to go here with people that know the menu.

Yelp
Great dim sum restaurant. Lots of traditional as well as unique food selection. All the dim sum options were good. Only one subpar dish ( the fried rice dish was a bit bland). Pricier than other dim sum places but worth the extra cost.

Yelp
First review for me for this place was a few years pre-2020. And it was a dinner outing, which I actually liked. I'd say 85% of their reviews are for the day hours doing dim sum. Well I finally tried a daytime dim sum outing recently so let's jot down some notes for that. I will say that having tried both now, I still prefer a night outing here and do a dinner. It is simply more of my speed. So recently I get invited to do a legit dim sum outing. And I'm talking about a table of 10, all Asians, a few even being fluent Mandarin speakers, during a weekend afternoon. I mean this was an occasion that I normally wouldn't plan for myself, and since I was just an invite, I hopped on just to see. First off weekends are absolute CRAY here. From 10am to about 3pm this place will be absolutely filled. Good luck finding parking. If you come at those hours, be prepared to wait for a table. The good is they are really good at turning tables and most will not have to wait more than 30 minutes. And everyone here is so accepting of that, that they'll do it with zero eyerolls. And once in you'll be in a room with almost 300 people and when seated will be almost elbow to elbow. Remember all the rules we had obey during the covid years, well this is the complete opposite. Lol. Bask in the ambiance. I think 2-3 peeps did the ordering in my group. I told them that I was pretty adventurous, and I was no stranger to this type of eating, so don't hold back on the ordering. And we ordered so much that I think I only tried like 50-60% of the stuff as I was literally only eating at what was within easy reach of me. And I still got crazy full. Just an absolute feeding frenzy. Also I won't be including any pricing with this review as I didn't even look at a menu nor a bill. Lucky me yes?!! Siu Mai (4*) Great flavor and texture, but I was kinda expecting more of the presentation from a dim sum house of this level. Looked like any other I've ever seen. Har Gow (3*) Tasted great but wrapper torn as I picked it up. Not sure if it was too mushy or just not sealed too tightly. Kind of a bummer when the filling drops out onto your small plate. Boiled Tripe (2*) Cut into uniform frilly strips. But so...so...so plain. I'm fond of tripe preps but I think it is a cut that is best when stewed/braised in a flavorful sauce. Like menudo or when the french braises it with mirepoix and herbs d' provence, the tripe absorbs those flavors like a sponge. Here it tasted like it was cooked in just water. So strange since Chinese cooking usually understands those principles. I think there was a thickish sauce on the side, but since there were so many things on our table, I couldn't tell what went with what. So as is, this was not special at all. Fried Tofu Skin with Shrimps (4*) Crazy crisp if eaten warm, but as it sits it can become plastic-like. I do like these now as I think I only tried them within this last year. But timing of eating is crucial. Rice Roll with Shrimp (4.5*) This is about as good as this dish gets. The wrapper is silky smooth with just a tad of bounce. Filled with nice hunks of shrimp and the sauce was light and complementing. Chinese Broccoli (4*) Super al dente and vibrant. Left whole so a bit awkward to eat as you had to pick up a big stem of a vegetable and take bites of it while trying to keep it on the chopsticks. Lol. But that's just me. Dried Scallop Fried Rice (5*) I'd say perfectly executed. I usually get this for my dinner outs so I'm pretty familiar with this dish. Daikon Cakes (2*) Did not like the flavor or the texture. Almost tasted like there were durian in it, like something was spoiled. Definitely just my taste as others ate it and did not leave it on their plate like I did. Lol Chicken Feet (4.5*) Crazy good and tender with a lot of 'padding' on those claws. These were PHAT. Seemed fried first as it had this coating on the outside like fried chicken. But since it was all braised til tender all the coating was basically mush, but tasty sauce covered mush. Some Braised Pork Dish (4*) Super tender and fatty succulent pieces of pork with the skin attached. Almost looked like it was roasted first then braised, cuz the skin was not crisp all wet and tender. Sauce was like a braised sweetish soy and there were a bed of small white beans on the bottom of the plate, which I've never seen from a Chinese restaurant. I think this was the only thing that I hadn't really seen before and was probably from a 'Specials' Sheet. I think I tried an egg tart too, but I was so full towards the end that I really couldn't remember much anymore. I'm sure it was fine, but not special as I would have remembered it. All I remember at that point was to get home ASAP before the food coma hit. And when I got home sure enough it hit hard. Great afternoon nap and another epic dim sum outing in the books. Yeeeeee!!!

Yelp
The food is good, but not the best I had, I always like to order shrimp dumplings, here, they could be more fresh.Honey walnut prawns is a little bit too sweet, other dishes are average, nothing surprises. Serving speed is pretty quick. Very spacious in the Saturday dinner time, not sure about brunch time, I will come back later at noon time to update that.

Yelp
4.5 stars rounded up still one of the top Chinese Cantonese cuisine restaurants in the SF Bay Area. Decor is above average upscale with a modern Chinese flair. Service is depends on the waiter or assistant manager. Most are very friendly but they are understaffed for the amount of business being handled. Food is always delicious. They have fancy modern take on traditional Hong Kong style dim sum. Some are creative and tastes really good. Some are too fusion for me. Besides the traditional shrimp dumplings, spareribs and dikon pastry, there are newer dishes that one must try. And, ordering seafood from the live tanks is a treat. We had the whole lobster made into dim sum... absolutely delicious.

Yelp
My favorite dim sum spot. It gets super packed here so I highly recommend getting a reservation. My only gripe is that I usually get chow fun noodles when I order lobster noodle, when I tried here, they wouldn't do it for me.

Yelp
for the osmanthus beef shui mai, rainbow Xiao long bao, egg yolk bao, sampan har gow, fried taro puff I didn't really like the roasted duck (greasy & undercooked), pork shui mai, bbq pork paste & rise crispy roll (greasy), sea scallop w/ black truffle, har gow (overcooked). Not to mention the prices

Yelp
This place is awful. Food was terrible. I ordered soy chicken and rice roll. Both the worst you can get. Service is very bad. They charge 18% service charge which they don't deserve at all. They charge for hot water too! This is probably the only restaurant which charge for hot water. I have been many restaurants including many high end. Most of them even offer lemon or honey when I ask for hot water. Hope this restaurant go out of business soon. Dirty stein all over the carpet. Don't come to this restaurant!

Yelp
Luckily got 2 large tables to accommodate my big party just in time with minimal wait on a Sunday. The food is is good and would go here again. I would say the pretty pallete XLB order can be skipped, it was kinda mid lol. Overall all the dishes were delicious

Yelp
Visited on a Friday for lunch and the whole place was packed to the brim. We got on the waitlist and waited approx 5-10 min. We got a bunch of stuff to share: shrimp crepe rice roll, soup dumplings, potstickers, shrimp and chive dumplings, shu mai, deep fried shrimp balls, baked bao buns, and chow fun. The food was overall pretty good but some things weren't up to standards. The potstickers came out cold, and the shrimp and chive dumplings were lukewarm too. This place is good but there's definitely better places out there. They also charge an 18% service charge on every bill - not sure why.

Yelp
This is a solid dim sum spot if you're in the area. They do not use the rolling carts so you order everything off a menu here. The dishes I've tried were good. My fiancé and I order the shrimp cheong fun (shrimp in rice noodle rolls) and the bbq pork buns all the time. I've been here a few times and the service can be non-existent/standard (ie you have to flag down the staff). They do a great job at clearing our plates but we've had to wait a long time to flag someone down for the check. Occasionally, they forget to bring out an item we ordered and we'd have to ask the staff member to check the kitchen. That said, this is a reliable spot for dimsum and I would come back, especially since they take reservations on weekends. This is super convenient if you're dining with family members who can't stand long lines. Note: there's an automatic 18% service charge, no matter the party size.

Yelp
super solid dim sum spot with a wide variety of dishes on the menu! i usually go on sunday morning/afternoons, and the line gets LONG even in the early afternoons. BUT, if you go online (even less than 24 hours in advance), you can make a reservation and be seated within 10-15 minutes of your arrival! reservations are pretty crucial, because one time i waited 2 hours for a table!! this location is the original one, but there are no dim sum carts. you order from a menu, and they bring you the dishes one by one. service is very quick, and they have a pretty straight-forward ordering process. my favorite dishes are the chicken feet, the mushroom and chive dumpling, the watercress veggies, and the beef tripe. each dish is so solid. there's a reason why people stand and wait in line for this!!

Yelp
We weren't planning to go to Koi Palace but ended up there because the original restaurant we wanted to dine at didn't offer the dishes I was looking for. We got to Koi around 1:50pm on a Monday and the restaurant was only about 1/3 filled, so we get seated right away. It was awesome that it wasn't super loud and packed for once (we usually go on weekends), especially since we had a sleeping baby with us. To order dim sum, they had a picture paper menu to select our items. They also had a super long receipt paper with their specials for the day. I prefer ordering from a menu because the dim sum is usually hotter/fresher and we can get what we want right away. Their dim sum prices ranged from $5.50-$12.80. We selected.. GRILLED CHIVE AND SHRIMP DUMPLINGS (4) $8.50 -came out hot, juicy and the shrimp pieces were big. There was even a crunch from being pan fried and I liked the texture of the wrapping. It was thin but still had a nice sticky chewiness to it. Haven't had it this good in a while but it was just a bit under seasoned. 4.5/5* CRISPY FRIED TARO PUFFS WITH PORK (3) $7.50 -perfectly fried, creamy, flavorful and not oily. This was soo good. Not much pork but there was shiitake mushrooms in it. Very tasty! 5/5* SHRIMP, PORK AND MUSHROOM SIU MAI (4) $6.50 -came out steaming hot and juicy. Tasted so fresh, it was flavorful and it had a good amount of shrimp. 5/5* BBQ PORK PASTE AND RICE CRISP RICE ROLL $$8.80 -it's char siu and little crispies wrapped in a soft blanket of rice noodle. The rice noodles were glistening when they came out. Super fresh and warm! They put the sweet soy sauce on the side to dip or pour over. This was SO GOOD and unique. I don't know of any other dim sum spots that sell this version of rice noodle rolls. 5/5* STIR FRIED RICE ROLL WITH XO SAUCE $8.50 -this was the first item they brought out to us and it was barely even warm. There was no sear on the rolls either. My husband asked this to be reheated again and they took it back with no problem. When they brought out a new one, it was hot and it had a nice sear. It had a wok aroma. Unfortunately there wasn't much flavor and the rice rolls were too soft..there wasn't much of a chew. I bit into a roll and bit something hard..I spit it out and it clanked on my plate. A tiny piece of gravel! This happened twice, so I gave up eating it after the second time. Super fail. My husband said these were decent so he gave it 3/5* SAMPAN STYLE CRISPY HARGOW (5) $7.50 -basically deep fried hargow. It was hot, super crispy and the shrimp was juicy. They topped it with green onion, red onion and a seasoning that tasted like old bay seasoning? The seasoning threw me off, odd combo. Not bad but wasn't a fan. 3/5* Service was really friendly and there was always someone zooming around if we needed something. When we asked for soy sauce, chili oil, vinegar and hot mustard, our server gave us huge sauce plates of them. Most places are stingy with their sauces. We were also checked on to make sure that we got a new plate of xo rolls too, which we appreciated. Since we moved further south, we haven't been back to Koi in a while, our usual dim sum spot is Grand Dynasty in Cupertino. But after this experience, we'll probably bring back Koi into our dim sum rotation. Even if it's a little further!

Yelp
Had dinner recently for party of THREE. There's a mandatory 18% service fee.... For 3??? I like Koi Palace, food is decent but high end of pricing. Service is attentive, but we're just table of three ordered 4 items. They refilled hot water for tea once. Nothing special. Doubt i'll return.

Yelp
Love the hot food, the ambiance and seating.. especially the company of good friends! Service is fast and a bit rushed. Pro Tip- good to know Cantonese to make the best choices from the menu.

Yelp
I enjoyed my experience here on Monday morning President's day. The lobby was packed with so many people with about a 30-40min wait for 2 people. They do have an efficient waiting system where they show u who is up next using a ticket system. I think u can make reservations remotely too. I enjoyed all the dimsum we ordered. Highlight for us was the chicken congee. Was very warming and delightful! I liked the lava dessert dim sum, the spring rice paper roll, the crab sea bass one, the pork soup dumplings, and the chinese broccoli. I would be back to enjoy some dimsum!

Yelp
On the menu they have teas that are either $2 or $3 so depending on which pot you choose. I went with the $3 tie guan yin because I feel that it adds more depth of flavor to my meal. They charge $1 more for the pan fried daikon cakes with xo sauce. Their chili oil is delicious with all their dim sum selection. Service can be bad depending on how short staffed/busy they are. But the food is always consistent and never disappoints
