KOKE

"The theme is ‘water and fire’, as Chef Yusaku Nakamura is fascinated by these polar opposites. The prix fixe begins with soup cooked with water drawn from a well in the courtyard. Some items are grilled over wood, others over charcoal, with the approach varying based on the ingredients. The name of the restaurant is an acronym of Kobe, Okinawa, Kyoto and Español – the four regional influences from which the chef weaves his culinary story." - Michelin Inspector

My husband and I went to Koke for lunch and were truly blown away. The service, food, and wine pairing were all immaculate. Every dish was beautifully plated and thoughtfully presented, and we were really impressed by the overall concept of the restaurant. The chef, sommelier, and entire staff created such a warm and elegant atmosphere—it felt both refined and welcoming. We left feeling full but not overly stuffed, which is a rare balance in tasting menus. Some of the bites will stay with me for a long time. This was easily one of my favorite fine dining experiences in Japan. Highly recommend.

I think the second michelin star is on the way. The meal was incredible, each dish was delicious, surprising, and innovative. The restaurant itself is minimal and elegant, and the table setting adds some tasteful playfulness. In my opinion, some minor things like the wine pairings not being described and tablecloths not being folded when guests left the table are the only thing stopping them from achieving a second star. The food is the best I've had from any 1 star restaurant and from a few 2 star.

We had an incredible lunch at Koke. The food, the ambiance and the service certainly met the expectations of -if not exceeding- a Michelin Star restaurant. We had ordered the full tasting menu with wine and non-alcohol pairing. Each dish was meticulously prepared by the chef and his assistant in front of you. The non-alcohol pairing was very unique. The staff was extremely professional yet friendly and warm. Will highly recommend Koke if you are looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Kyoto.

This was such an excellent meal that we think it may have been the best restaurant we have ever been to. The food experience is a spectacle for all of the senses and the atmosphere of the space is wonderfully relaxing with low lighting, flowing water and an open fire in the kitchen. Would highly recommend

Absolutely perfect experience, great vibes, great food, surprises, service, everything you expect from a Michelin Star restaurant is here. The chef is passionate and was able to source ingredients from all over Japan and especially Okinawa, the flavours varies from dish to dish but each one was full of surprise and unique combinations. I would definitely come back if I were to visit Kyoto again.

Food was amazing, but the wine pairings were out of this world! I really enjoyed the thought process of the whole experience. Although, I would prefer to understand each dish better, it will be quite understandable that it is difficult due to language barriers. From the tapas to the mains to the desserts, everything was executed to perfection. If I do have a complain, the wintermelon was too sweet, hence most of us couldn’t finish it or tried our best to. The wine pairings for the dish didn’t help it that much either. Otherwise everything else was great. Looking forward to your future creations!

We had an exceptional meal at Koke. We had the dinner tasting menu with full wine pairing. It was a very intimate and peaceful dining experience, as the restaurant can only fit about 12 guests. We loved the slight Spanish influence on the food. It was a subtle cohesion of Spanish and Japanese which made every mouthful unique and interesting. Presentation was also beautiful. This was our most expensive meal in Japan, but as we were on honeymoon we felt we could treat ourselves. The meal was definitely worth it. Many other reviewers complained about the lack of English spoken. We did not have this experience. The staff all spoke English, some better than others, but enough to converse and have an enjoyable experience.
