Best Restaurants in Flagstaff, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Although this tiny Southside restaurant offers a handful of Japanese dishes, such as teriyaki chicken and tonkatsu, its claim to fame is homey Korean food delivered by friendly servers (or maybe the owner herself) who make the experience that much more inviting. The menu hones in on classics such as potsticker-like mandu, japchae (glass noodles stir-fried with meat and vegetables), and sweet, savory beef bulgogi — all deftly prepared and modestly priced. An order of crunchy, deep-fried chicken, served piping hot and sided with tangy banchan, is not to be missed." - Nikki Buchanan

Simply the best place with the most flavorful food I’ve ever tasted. You definitely won’t regret coming here. It’s a wonderful spot with minimalist interior design that looks very aesthetic. The food is amazing and the staff is very friendly.

I was delighted to discover excellent Korean food in the U.S.! My family loved it, and thank you for the water for my thirsty dog. We enjoyed spicy pork, soon tofu soup, and tteokbokki—everything was fresh and delicious! I highly recommend it for a flavorful experience!

Google
I did expect the food to be good from customer photos but I didn’t realize it was gonna be great! Excellent service, authentic taste and atmosphere. Kid friendly, my toddler loved the food! Will be coming back. Great job to the staff, cooks etc. everyone should eat here

Update: It is always annoying that even though we order way too much food for their tiny two top tables they insist on crowding us at the small tables even though the restaurant is empty. They’ve done this three times but this is the first time they literally drug half of our table away. So, instead of our usual $120-$200 we spend, we protested our inconvenience and irrational, unnecessary treatment by not ordering bottles of sake or soju, not ordering 2 quarts of kimchi and dessert to go. By treating us this way and unnecessarily crowding us and embarrassing us, the restaurant easily lost $100 which means the server lost $25 and I just changed my review from five stars for everything to what you see now. And I probably won’t consider coming back to this place for six months to a year when normally I’m here every three months at least. They just lost two loyal, generous customers. They never filled the table they took away from us or any other tables and they foolishly made the two single people that came in sit elbow to elbow at their tiny four seat bar. The place was empty when we left except for the two individuals forced to dine together at the bar. This is terrible treatment of your customers. Don’t inconvenience the customers you have for the sake of the customers who might never walk through the door. This is just ignorant. —- Previous Review: This tiny place is phenomenal! Every time I visit I am impressed with the exceptional food. The preparation is flawless you must try their fried chicken, bulgogi, barbecue and their specialty drinks. I always buy extra kimchi to take home. I made an incredible Asian bloody Mary using the leftover Kimchi juice. It was amazing! Be sure to make reservations if possible, the place is very small.

Google
We often visit Arizona, and this is our go-to restaurant every time. The food is absolutely delicious, and the owner is incredibly kind. I always order the army stew, and my kids love the pork cutlet. All the other menu items we've tried have been great too. We had a wonderful meal and a great time. Thank you so much for the excellent service!

Google
We ordered two bowls of seafood noodle soup, but each one was surprisingly different. One bowl had two shrimp, while the other had lots of vegetables but no shrimp. The broth also tasted different between the two. The staff seemed busy, but the restaurant itself wasn’t crowded. We had to ask twice to get chili powder, and no one refilled our water during the meal.

Google
had the greatest meal here! service was kind like always. i had the tteokbokki and it was phenomenal, thank u for this delicious meal. will come again :))

Yelp
Amazing, food is great, service is great, and the place is nice and clean. i'll definitely recommend to anyone in flag.

Yelp
Owner was extremely rude and we had to walk out. We walked in when a staff member was cleaning out a table - she told us that it'll be a quick moment before she will sit us but the owner, an older Korean lady, came over and in a very loud voice, almost yelling, told us to step outside and wait for 10 minutes. Then the staff member was trying to make us stay and argue with the owner but she just kept telling us to leave. If you don't want our business just tell us.

Yelp
We headed up north to Flagstaff to escape the summer heat of Phoenix and enjoy some hiking, and decided to stop by Kokiyo after seeing it on TikTok. We tried the bibimbap and chicken katsu, both were absolutely delicious! The dishes tasted fresh and made with quality ingredients, and we loved the banchan as well. The owner was so kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Great service and fantastic food, highly recommend!

Yelp
Recently tried to bring my birth mom and niece... called ahead, said there would be 8 of us. She told us to walk in, arrived about 40 min later (we were on our way from Phx. I told her we were in Camp Verde), all seating was taken and she had another big party that had called after us she had taken a reservation for. We were told we could go outside. The outside seating was a horrible picnic table in the full sun. We left. I am not sure I will be back. The customer service the last 2 times has been lacking. This time was horrible and the prices are expensive...

Yelp
This is a great Korean small business. The service is on the slower side but the food is great! The beef bulgogi is very tasty!

Yelp
This review is for take out, they were nice over the phone when taking our order. The place looks cute from the outside. They missed the mark with the food. I was looking forward to the beef bulgigi and the spicy pork. We did not like either of the dishes and didn't finish it. The beef was so dry, no sauce. The spicy pork was worse. We're visiting from Phoenix so I don't think we will be back. Maybe we caught them on a bad night.

Yelp
This was a very surprising find in flagstaff! I've lived in LA, NYC, and the Bay Area and the food here delivered up to the great Korean food I've had everywhere else! Everything was solid, the staff was great, and the vibes were super chill. I'll make it a point to come back when I'm in town.

Yelp
The staff are super super nice and the lady who served us was so kind!! The food was DELICIOUS!!! Will definitely return :)

Yelp
Such a cute little place with authentic Korean food. Seems family owned and operated with very friendly service. We enjoyed our dinner very much. Banchan is my favorite part.
google avatar

Yelp
The only Korean restaurant in Flagstaff, but they have all your basic Korean dishes. We tried Korean fried chicken assuming it was the whole chicken but it was only wings. However, it was still crispy and delicious. We also tried champong which had ton of seafood and lot of noodles. Army stew soup was single serving which included your usual suspects like ramen noodles, sausages, kimchi and tofu. It tasted more like kimchi stew. Spicy chicken soup was my favorite out of all dishes because the broth was best out of all of them. Nothing here is exceptional but satisfied our Korean food cravings. Service is excellent and price is on the high side, but don't blame them as there is no competition and business is good. Highly recommend if you have craving for Korean food in this area.

Yelp
Stopped at at Kokiyo tonight for dinner in Flagstaff and this Korean restaurant is spot on! The service was outstanding from Emilay. She was very knowledgeable about all the items and a wonderful host. The spicy sauces were delicious. I tried both the teriyaki as well as the spicy chicken sauces. Everything is homemade and absolutely delicious. For a second, I thought I was actually in Seoul, ROK and Hongik University again I had the beef Bulgogi and it was delicious. I could not eat the entire thing and had to take leftovers so the portions were good as well.

Yelp
place is just ok. service is meh!!! can see the difference between one customer and another. foods are just ok and expect to have the fried chicken with wow taste because i know korean fried chicken is so famous but for me, the batter is too thick and not fully fried. the chicken is also not well cooked...
google avatar

Yelp
Great eating experience with our family. Even our teenage boys loved it. One of the best Korean foods we had so far. The seafood noodles were bursting with several diverse types of seafood. We also Enjoyed their beef bulgogi combo.

Yelp
This is a homy small Korean restaurant with pretty decent authentic Korean food. There's nothing to "wow" about, but a good place to satisfy your Korean crave. On a busy Saturday night though, the service was a bit slow. They were really nice and worked as efficiently as they could, but just couldn't catch up. It might be a good idea to hire at least one more people during busy hours like this.

Yelp
It was an unfortunate time for us to of had lunch there today. It's close quarters in the dining area. While we awaited our food, we heard a loud prolonged quarrel in the kitchen followed by the employee seemingly get fired. Aside from this, the food was hot, fresh and good. It was just out of balance with all items being on the sweet side. Obviously, sugar/sweetness is a stable ingredient in Asian food and here it was out of balance. My spicy pork entree was on the sweet side and so were the pickled vegetables, the beef entrees, the picked cucumber. We asked for spicy sauce on the side and it could be house made but it was more sweet than spicy. Just as the spicy sauce that comes with the Korean fried chicken. The one item we're all confused by were the spicy edamame. They were steamed but served completely dry, saltless with supposed dry spicy powder on top that was flavorless. Usually this appetizer is served savory, saucy, garlicky and spicy. The servers were friendly.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place walking into downtown flagstaff and I am so glad I did! The girl working was extremely friendly and helpful and walked me thru the menu. I got the beef lunch special with rice and sides and it was fabulous!! Tons of flavor. Highly recommend this place for some delicious Asian flavors

Yelp
Cool little spot and the owner was very friendly. Korean bento box was delicious! Try the Yazu tea.

Yelp
Everything was super good. It's nice to see a Korean restaurant up here, I'd say the food is pretty authentic and tasty. They were busy and bussing everyone and we got our food in a timely manner. It's a nice small sit down inside, make sure to come early before the rush!!
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
Awesome sit down and small restaurant. The service is really nice and the lady there always showed that she was proud of what she was serving. She gave a small side of homemade pickles with my seafood soup. I'll be here again to try something else

Yelp
We had a very weird experience - the owner yelled at us to leave when a table was already being prepared and no one was waiting in line.

Yelp
Overall pretty good! It's rather small inside. Not a lot of options on the menu. Ordered the beef bulgogi and it was decent!
google avatar

Veronica L.

Yelp
Authentic Korean restaurant in Flagstaff with a Korean female owner. The food was good and I liked that there are non spicy options. Army stew and the seafood noodle soup were good. The beef bulgogi was dry and too sweet in my opinion. The kimchi was really fresh and good. We asked for a second bowl which was $3 which is unusual because banchan is usually complimentary. I like that they had a good drink selection, including 3 different Korean beers. Good place to go if you want Korean food in Flagstaff. Street parking was easy.

Yelp
Tucked in a small strip of Flag Staff, AZ, stands an unassuming Korean restaurant. My group decided to grab some quick food while on a road trip - and man! This was the best meal we've had. Michelle is such a sweetie and was so amazing in her hospitality. DO NOT skip out of the tteokbokki and the soon tofu soup! Absolutely would be back to this. Worth our drive.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was so good here except for the appetizer. We didn't like the So Dduk, which is skewered rice cakes and sausage fried with a sweet and spicy sauce. It was more like rice cakes and cocktail weiners with bbq sauce and mustard. All four at the table did not like it. The Bibimbap had so much flavor. It came with a white miso soup which was just ok. The sides were kimchi, fish cakes, and a cucumber salad, the salad was so good everyone couldn't get enough of it. We also had the Bulgogi and that also was very good with lots of flavors. We also took a Nagasaki soup to go. Unfortunately that was not good at all. It is a seafood soup and the only seafood they gave us was one small mussel. Needless to say very disappointing. I would go again for the main course!
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is _fine_. Maybe my standards are simply too high for Flag. The food's authentic and home-style, but it's just not that great. I had the spicy pork bowl. The rice was cooked well, but heavily seasoned in a way that didn't balance the pork super well. The pork was more sweet than spicy, and honestly the premarinated stuff from H-Mart to grill at home has more of a kick and is crispier. The "three sides" (banchan: kimchi, cucumber salad, fish cake) were reasonably fresh, but nothing special. I'll likely be there again for soup at some point once winter sets in, and it does hit a spot if you have a craving, but it's really nothing special.

Yelp
To start, the service was nothing short of amazing. We wanted to enjoy a wonderful late spring afternoon by dining outside. We called ahead to check if the outdoor area was available and to our surprise, the owner had cleaned off a table just for us (we are probably the first of the season to request outdoor dining). The outdoor tables also have pads for comfortable seating. The service we received from both the server and the owner was kind, considerate, and welcoming. Now! On to the food! The beef bulgogi was delicious and juicy. I was pleasantly surprised by how many sides came with the meal and each was tasty. Overall, the combinations of the flavors and portion sizes lend the dish a well balanced profile and it was an engaging eating experience. As can be seen in the picture I have included, the presentation is also very nicely done. I highly recommend Kokiyo to anyone who finds themselves in Flagstaff.

Yelp
The dumplings were the highlight. The atmosphere was pleasant. I had the katzudon, which was tasty.

Yelp
Wow, I just love the food here. Everything is amazing!!!! Chicken katsu, beef, and the fried chicken is just unbelievable. Nice little place. Great ambiance, service is great and friendly. I come here everytime I'm in town.

Yelp
Solid A+. We love this place so much. My kid had japchae, I had spicy pork bulgogi, and my wife had tofu bibimbap. We always try to stop by here for Korean food whenever we are in town. I was born in Korea, grew up in Koreatown Los Angeles, and I will tell you that the flavors here are amazing. People who run the restaurant are very kind as well.

Yelp
We having been going the this restaurant for over 1yr. We love the food, service and ambiance of a TRUE Authentic Korean BBQ restaurant. The place is small and always busy. Be patience, the food is worth the wait. The owner is friendly, remembers her return customers with a loving smile and great conversation.Thank you for the best korean bbq in flagstaff az. Andrea and Chace

Yelp
We ate outside in the patio area. Looks like the area is new and needs sone ambiance and decos. Service was great w lots of attention. We had the beef box and it was delicious. Great proportions and Variety. We all tried a tea. I had the pear one. Quite refreshing. Matcha milk tea boba was my daughters pick. She said it was great!
google avatar

Timothy Spencer T.

Yelp
Amazing service and okay Korean food. I came here with high expectation and ended up somewhere in the middle. The tofu soup is good but I had hoped for more proteins in it. The bibimbap is probably my favorite of the bunch. Bulgogi was fine and the fried chicken didn't have that coating of sauce that Korean Fried Chicken is known for. Overall, I think this place is worth a visit.
google avatar

Sasha M.

Yelp
Food was very tasty and flavorful. Service was great. Very friendly staff and prompt service. Small little dining area.
google avatar

Silvia Y.

Yelp
The restaurant is small but clean. The food was homely and restaurant staff were very friendly. However the price was very high for the amount of food given. I understand the price would probably be higher since it's at downtown Flagstaff. I liked the food but it was too expensive :(
google avatar

Bronson S.

Yelp
One of my friends posted a picture of her food here on her instagram story and I had asked her where it was at because it looked so good! Since I was visiting Flag from Phoenix I decided to try it out. Firstly, the atmosphere is so cute. Its a very tiny restaurant with big windows and a cute color palette, I really liked the green and white floor tiles. I got the bibimbap and yuzu tea and both were really good. The pork on the bibimbap was sooo good it had a nice char that gave it crispy edges and great flavor. It was a really well done bibimbap and the yuzu tea was also really hot and citrusy. Our entrees also came with some banchan including kimchi, oi muchim and some kind of marinated tofu. All were great and full of flavor. I think this would be a great place to come on a date because the vibe is very cozy and the food is good and reasonably priced. I would come here again for sure.
google avatar

Unisha M.

Yelp
Decent Korean food with fast service and chill Ambiance. We had the Spicy Korean fried chicken and Kimchi stew that came with banchan and rice! The stew was hot, good flavor of kimchi sausage and tofu. The chicken was sweet and spicy with perfect blend of the both flavors. The portion was okay! If you're used to Korean palette you might find the food here average but for someone trying Korean food for the first time, this spot is decent to introduce your tastebuds to Korean flavors! I felt it was a bit pricy but then again we are in Flagstaff.

Micah W.

Yelp
Waitress was attentive, prompt and outgoing. Food was a fair representation of Korean dishes that I had while stationed in South Korea, only wish was an expanded menu showcasing their phenomenal cuisine. Would definitely return for more. Had the Army soup

AnnaMay B.

Yelp
Food is AMAZING, all sauces are made in house and you can definitely taste the quality. The atmosphere is super cute, cozy and simple. Highly recommend! Best Korean food I've had in a while (*chefs kiss*) the owner is so sweet and hospitable!
google avatar

Chelsie E.

Yelp
I've had a lot of really good Korean food so it didn't meet my expectations but overall was tasty. Wish the menu had a little more options because there are so many delicious Korean dishes. Service was friendly and fast. Indoor and outdoor seating but a pretty small restaurant space.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
My Korean family and I stopped by on our way to the Grand Canyon! We were very skeptical at first bc we cook authentic Korean food at home and they have high expectations for Korean food. But they were pleasantly surprised!!! We got the bibimbap, katsudon, and dakkangjung which was plenty for 3 women. The portions were large enough to share (family style), not the mention the banchan (side dishes) and complimentary moogook (radish soup) were delicious. The service was also wonderful and our food came out very fast. It's a cute hole in the wall Korean restaurant and my Korean family and I would highly recommend :)
google avatar

Eve C.

Yelp
Service was super friendly. Food was average, a solid 3.5 rating. I can understand the high rating on Yelp given the limited Korean food options in the area. It appears that anything served with banchan automatically get a pass. My family and I were driving through the area and stopped in for a quick lunch. We had the katsudon which was a bit too salty and the breading was separating from the pork cutlet. The non-spicy seafood soup was also on the salty side, a bunch of chopped up previously very frozen seafood and one signature shrimp on top of a bed of ramen noodle. It was lackluster, the soup somehow did not invoke that utter comfort feeling like a bowl of chicken noodle soup. Last, we had the spicy bulgogi, the spiciness was on point, the pork wasn't too oily, the accompanying cabbage still has a nice crunch, but at the bottom of the bowl was rice soaking in some sweet sauce. The sauce made the rice unnecessarily sweet and did not complement the spicy pork at all. All the flavors were there, just a bit too much salt and sauce.
google avatar

Joanne S.

Yelp
After too much Italian and bread and heaviness, I was in the mood for some Korean food. I came for lunch on a sunny day and sat outside in the shaded picnic table with my well behaved toy poodle and had tofu bibimbop. The egg was scrambled instead of sunny side up as typical, but the proclaimed homemade gochujang paired with Korean pear juice hit the spot. I found the kimchi, tofu and cucumber banchan suited my palate for typical flavors I have come to expect. The server came out to check on me to see if I needed anything. I will definitely come back when I am in town again!

Maksim L.

Yelp
Making it a habit to swing by whenever I have time in Flag. I love Korean food and I have no complaints. This time we got the pork and beef bulgogi.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
the food was not as tasty as it was last time i came here. i think the food is fine but my initial visit set high expectations for this place. so i guess the quality is inconsistent.

Yelp
Pay parking around the corner, limited menu but all the good stuff is there. Seated quickly, great service and excellent dinner!

Yelp
Good flavors, great service. A little place but worth a visit. Simple menu makes for easy ordering!

Yelp
I believe I'm at the owner/chef she was wonderful and so nice. The japchae was really good. I got the chicken Katsu lunch box and it was a lot of food and ended up having leftovers. My favorite side dish was the kimchi it's not spicy like a lot of other ones. It's actually got kind of a sweet taste to it. The pickled cucumbers were spicier. It was really good.
