Best Restaurants in Flagstaff, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Although this tiny Southside restaurant offers a handful of Japanese dishes, such as teriyaki chicken and tonkatsu, its claim to fame is homey Korean food delivered by friendly servers (or maybe the owner herself) who make the experience that much more inviting. The menu hones in on classics such as potsticker-like mandu, japchae (glass noodles stir-fried with meat and vegetables), and sweet, savory beef bulgogi — all deftly prepared and modestly priced. An order of crunchy, deep-fried chicken, served piping hot and sided with tangy banchan, is not to be missed." - Nikki Buchanan

Travelers here. The restaurants we wanted to try were closed, and too long due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Decided to try this Korean restaurant. The owner and staff were welcoming and friendly to my family. There was only To-Go meals in the restaurant tonight (every dinner set was $20 - main dish, some little sides (fish cakes, nappa cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi), and small soup). We ordered Korean fried chicken wings, and Katsudon. Everything was really delicious and good value. Big portion!!! My 3-year-old son did enjoy the food a lot! I loved the fried chicken wings, especially when eating with both sauces came with the set. What a satisfied meal after a really long day and I was starving. / Highly recommend this place!🙌🏻💕

I think my experience was worse than it should have been, because my expectations were that of an open-grill style KBBQ. I can't imagine there are very many Korean restaurants in Flagstaff, but eating here after trying restaurants like Mana or Gen-Korean in Phoenix is a wholly different experience to say the least. The dish I tried was more like a rice bowl and salad, rather than a bulgogi bowl. I expected more meat than what I recieved, and the portion size of each type of food in the bowl was equal to the next. The saving grace was the quantity, and it was filling nonetheless. The chicken katsu was very good in my opinion. It was cooked very well, not dry, and was also a good portion size. I'm sure Kokiyo has other, maybe more savory dishes on their menu; and while I can't necessarily chalk my experience up to "luck of the draw", it was a unique experience, and I'm glad I was able to try it.

Stopped here because we love Korean Food back home & let me tell you…the BEST Korean food ever. We had Dduck appetizer which was delicious, I had the Spicy Pork Brunch Box which was so much food & so delicious..loved every part of it & The fried Chicken is so crunchy! Michelle the owner was hospitable & funny & we loved our conversation. This was by far one of our favorite places we went to eat at in Flagstaff.

Simply the best place with the most flavorful food I’ve ever tasted. You definitely won’t regret coming here. It’s a wonderful spot with minimalist interior design that looks very aesthetic. The food is amazing and the staff is very friendly.

We came to KoKiYo for a late lunch, and I’ve been wanting to try this spot for a while now. I’m so glad we finally did, it exceeded all of my expectations! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming, and the food? Absolutely spectacular. I ordered the KoKiYo Lunch Box (a Bento-style meal), and everything on the plate was perfect. The beef and vegetables were cooked to perfection, full of flavor and texture. The kimchi was to die for, and I’m still thinking about the cucumber kimchi salad, such a refreshing and flavorful side. My husband had the Katzudon chicken, and he said it reminded him of home, which is high praise coming from him. When I asked him to rate his meal, he didn’t even hesitate: 10/10. We finished off our meal with a coffee ice cream macaron sandwich, and it was the perfect sweet ending, light, flavorful, and so yummy. No complaints whatsoever. Just a genuinely great experience from start to finish. I’m absolutely recommending this place to friends and family, and we’ll definitely be back!

Google
We stopped here after a long 9 hour drive. I had checked out the menu on my way into Flagstaff and I am so glad I made the decision to stop by. I ordered take out, as it was incredible busy for dining and had a wait. I ended up waiting 30+ min for my take out but I cannot complain as the food was 100% worth it. We had the beef bulgogi. The only downside was that I had asked if there were utensils in the bag prior to leaving only to find out that they in fact had not provided me some. Otherwise, I’m super happy with having stopped by and will be by next time I’m in town.

Google
I was delighted to discover excellent Korean food in the U.S.! My family loved it, and thank you for the water for my thirsty dog. We enjoyed spicy pork, soon tofu soup, and tteokbokki—everything was fresh and delicious! I highly recommend it for a flavorful experience!

Google
I did expect the food to be good from customer photos but I didn’t realize it was gonna be great! Excellent service, authentic taste and atmosphere. Kid friendly, my toddler loved the food! Will be coming back. Great job to the staff, cooks etc. everyone should eat here

Yelp
Came after a long hike and this place hit the spot, couldn't tell if it was b/c we were starving or the food was just on point. The restaurant was small w/ limited seating, the service was good, our server although busy made sure to check on us multiple times, even the lady who looks to be the owner came out to ask about our day and to check if the food was tasting okay. Overall gave off a warm and welcoming vibe, the type you get from a mom and pop Korean restaurant. Mandu (5/5) - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Loved it. Soon tofu stew (5/5)- hearty, flavorful, had a good amount of tofu and meats Dak gangjung (3/5)- chewy and dry, the sauce was tasty tho. Lastly, the banchan here is delicious, they kept having to refill it b/c we kept finishing it LOL. Also, I love that they serve their entrees w/ purple yam rice instead of regular white rice.

Yelp
We found this place when visiting Flagstaff. And exploring the downtown area. This place was a short distance away from the busy part of downtown across the train tracks. Nice cozy place with Korean dishes. I was craving soup so I got the seafood soup. My husband got the Bulgoki entree, not the bowl because he wanted more meat. Both entrees were good portion sizes. We got a few side dishes with our meal - a cucumber salad, kimchi, and another one with some sort of tofu. The cucumber salad and tofu sides were good. The kimchi tasted like it might be starting to go bad. Our entrees were good. Both came with a small bowl of purple rice. The seafood soup tasted good but there was not a lot of seafood. It had mostly tofu. The seafood consisted of a few mussels and shrimp. This place is a small place and got crowded quickly. There was one main woman working there who did almost everything from taking orders to cleaning tables to serving all her customers. It was impressive seeing her work so hard.

Yelp
Food was great (we had the bulgolgi lunch special), but service is lacking. A woman that I'm assuming was the owner snapped at us that our child had to be in the high chair (she'll typically sit in our lap or in an adult chair at first for distraction until it's time to eat) and then glared across the restaurant when she started to cry when we put her into the high chair as requested. Later on, we had received the check but our child was still eating (it was about 15 minutes after we got our food) when the same woman came over and said there were people waiting outside so she needed our table. Maybe this was a one-off, but the random 1 star yelp reviews scattered in with the 5 star reviews seems like intermittently poor service is a trend.

Yelp
Cute Korean restaurant in downtown Flagstaff. Employees here are super nice. We ordered the Dakgangjung (deep fried boneless chicken) with the soy garlic sauce, and spicy glazed on the side. Wish the chicken was crispier. Next time I'll get the spicy glazed sauce because I liked it more and was not as spicy as I expected. Their banchan is good, kimchi was yummy. Mandu was delicious--hot and super crispy with good filling.

Yelp
The owner is incredibly rude to their workers and customers. and the Korean food is mid and overpriced. I feel like the only reason why they have good ratings is bc it's like the only Korean spot in flagstaff. Honestly you should save your money and get your korean food elsewhere.

Yelp
While looking for food on Thanksgiving, my husband and I were able to stumbled upon this restaurant in Flagstaff around 8PM. They were offering a Thanksgiving special menu, and unfortunately, it was only that menu that they were offering for the evening. This made it hard to make a decision since every meal was $20 and you cannot really order sides of things. But really , $20 for all of the food that came in the meal, it was also a really great option and so much food! We ordered the Korean fried chicken and the Bibimbop, both which were really good. We also got some of the spicy pork which was yummy and spicy indeed! We were missing one of our sides, which was replaced with a larger side of just cucumbers... this was actually a blessing in disguise as those cucumbers were amazing! I would honestly order a side of those again! The interior of the restaurant is pretty small and when we went in, it was set up for a pick up , though I believe they usually have tables set up. The music selection was pretty good too, I was jamming while we were waiting for food to go. We got some peach juice , but they have other drinks that were not available that evening, such as smoothies. This is definitely a place I would return to when in Flagstaff!

Yelp
The food is good. The ambience is nice. The people were friendly. That's basically all there is to say, it's simple in a good way.

Yelp
Was passing through town on a roadtrip and wanted something nourishing and delicious. Got beef bulgogi and the honey ginger tea - both hit the spot. Wish there were more options like this on a roadtrip.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered kimchi soup, nakasaki udon and dakgangjung(fried chicken), the chicken doesn't taste like it at all since I was grown up near Ktown LA I know how authentic Korean chicken tastes like, this was more like orange chicken. Needs to be more fried crispy and sweet, it was rather salty. Soups were OK overall. Meanwhile the server guy was working alone, working hard and nice, heard him talking to next table help decide on order, he knew what he was delivering and very patient, he's a def keeper here!

Yelp
We headed up north to Flagstaff to escape the summer heat of Phoenix and enjoy some hiking, and decided to stop by Kokiyo after seeing it on TikTok. We tried the bibimbap and chicken katsu, both were absolutely delicious! The dishes tasted fresh and made with quality ingredients, and we loved the banchan as well. The owner was so kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Great service and fantastic food, highly recommend!

Yelp
Tl;dr - avoid this restaurant on a busy weekend night; service is subpar. Important: They close dine in ONE HOUR before their actual closing time (you can't dine in past 7pm if they close at 8pm). Tip: if you're selecting between multiple restaurants to route to, DO NOT waste your time coming here + paying for parking unless you have a reservation OR call ahead to confirm they're still accepting dine in. (Closing hours depend on the owner's whims, so you really can't rely on their posted Yelp hours).

Yelp
The food is okay, but not great. We went here with a group of 8. With an infant in a stroller. Upon seeing the stroller , this asian lady started snapping on us saying we have to fold the stroller. We get it. We have to seat on 2 separate tables because that is the only way they can accommodate us. Again that is fine. But when the table next to us became vacant, i asked if we can put it together and my daughter's family will move . I can tell she did not like it, maybe she thinks it's a lot of work. After her giving me attitude, i just said nevermind. Then she snapped again and almost slammed a chair on the floor. This restaurant is not kid friendly at all. They need to improve their customer service. Not going back again though.

Yelp
It's been about a week since I visited this place, and now that I'm back in Orange County--where there are plenty of great Korean restaurants with excellent service--I can reflect on the experience more clearly. Maybe I was unlucky or maybe the owner was having a bad day, but the service I received during my visit was very disappointing. I stopped in because I suddenly felt like Korean food while on a trip, but in hindsight I should've chosen more carefully. No hard feelings, but overall it was an awful experience for me, both in terms of service and atmosphere

Lee J.

Yelp
Overall, subpar service and clear miscommunication between the waitstaff. I arrived here at around 7 PM. One lady said I could wait for 5-10 mins, so my family and I waited outside in the cold for about 20 mins. We saw multiple smaller groups who arrived after us get seated first. Finally, when we checked in with a different server (for the third time), she informed us that no dine in was available because they needed to close at 8 PM. My time was entirely wasted (especially after paying for parking). I would not recommend coming here on a busy night.

Yelp
Came here on our way through Flagstaff on a road trip, and had an excellent experience! We got the Army Stew and fried chicken. Both hit the spot perfectly and were accompanied by delicious banchan. Food was very reasonably priced with good sizes. We'll stop back whenever we find ourselves in Flagstaff again!

Yelp
The only Korean restaurant in Flagstaff, but they have all your basic Korean dishes. We tried Korean fried chicken assuming it was the whole chicken but it was only wings. However, it was still crispy and delicious. We also tried champong which had ton of seafood and lot of noodles. Army stew soup was single serving which included your usual suspects like ramen noodles, sausages, kimchi and tofu. It tasted more like kimchi stew. Spicy chicken soup was my favorite out of all dishes because the broth was best out of all of them. Nothing here is exceptional but satisfied our Korean food cravings. Service is excellent and price is on the high side, but don't blame them as there is no competition and business is good. Highly recommend if you have craving for Korean food in this area.

Camila A.

Yelp
This place always amazes me. The service is phenomenal, the food is beyond delicious, and the ambiance is very chill.

Yelp
Recently tried to bring my birth mom and niece... called ahead, said there would be 8 of us. She told us to walk in, arrived about 40 min later (we were on our way from Phx. I told her we were in Camp Verde), all seating was taken and she had another big party that had called after us she had taken a reservation for. We were told we could go outside. The outside seating was a horrible picnic table in the full sun. We left. I am not sure I will be back. The customer service the last 2 times has been lacking. This time was horrible and the prices are expensive...

Yelp
This is a great Korean small business. The service is on the slower side but the food is great! The beef bulgogi is very tasty!
google avatar

Yelp
We came in with an unexpectedly large crowd and they accommodated us very well!! Despite being such a large crowd they brought the food out not too long after ordering. Food was well worth the price, everything tasted amazing! The vibes were perfect for a quick catch up with friends!
google avatar

Tianshu S.

Yelp
Owner was extremely rude and we had to walk out. We walked in when a staff member was cleaning out a table - she told us that it'll be a quick moment before she will sit us but the owner, an older Korean lady, came over and in a very loud voice, almost yelling, told us to step outside and wait for 10 minutes. Then the staff member was trying to make us stay and argue with the owner but she just kept telling us to leave. If you don't want our business just tell us.

Yelp
Amazing, food is great, service is great, and the place is nice and clean. i'll definitely recommend to anyone in flag.

Yelp
This was a very surprising find in flagstaff! I've lived in LA, NYC, and the Bay Area and the food here delivered up to the great Korean food I've had everywhere else! Everything was solid, the staff was great, and the vibes were super chill. I'll make it a point to come back when I'm in town.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for take out, they were nice over the phone when taking our order. The place looks cute from the outside. They missed the mark with the food. I was looking forward to the beef bulgigi and the spicy pork. We did not like either of the dishes and didn't finish it. The beef was so dry, no sauce. The spicy pork was worse. We're visiting from Phoenix so I don't think we will be back. Maybe we caught them on a bad night.
google avatar

Mannie S.

Yelp
This is a homy small Korean restaurant with pretty decent authentic Korean food. There's nothing to "wow" about, but a good place to satisfy your Korean crave. On a busy Saturday night though, the service was a bit slow. They were really nice and worked as efficiently as they could, but just couldn't catch up. It might be a good idea to hire at least one more people during busy hours like this.
google avatar

Yesenia A.

Yelp
It was an unfortunate time for us to of had lunch there today. It's close quarters in the dining area. While we awaited our food, we heard a loud prolonged quarrel in the kitchen followed by the employee seemingly get fired. Aside from this, the food was hot, fresh and good. It was just out of balance with all items being on the sweet side. Obviously, sugar/sweetness is a stable ingredient in Asian food and here it was out of balance. My spicy pork entree was on the sweet side and so were the pickled vegetables, the beef entrees, the picked cucumber. We asked for spicy sauce on the side and it could be house made but it was more sweet than spicy. Just as the spicy sauce that comes with the Korean fried chicken. The one item we're all confused by were the spicy edamame. They were steamed but served completely dry, saltless with supposed dry spicy powder on top that was flavorless. Usually this appetizer is served savory, saucy, garlicky and spicy. The servers were friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great eating experience with our family. Even our teenage boys loved it. One of the best Korean foods we had so far. The seafood noodles were bursting with several diverse types of seafood. We also Enjoyed their beef bulgogi combo.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
Stopped at at Kokiyo tonight for dinner in Flagstaff and this Korean restaurant is spot on! The service was outstanding from Emilay. She was very knowledgeable about all the items and a wonderful host. The spicy sauces were delicious. I tried both the teriyaki as well as the spicy chicken sauces. Everything is homemade and absolutely delicious. For a second, I thought I was actually in Seoul, ROK and Hongik University again I had the beef Bulgogi and it was delicious. I could not eat the entire thing and had to take leftovers so the portions were good as well.
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
I love this place! I've been coming here for years and I always get the brunch box. All three options are fantastic and it's a lot of food for the price. The owner is so sweet and pretty much everything is made from scratch! I also love the kimari, the mandu, and the matcha lemonade. Hands down my favorite restaurant in Flag! :D
google avatar

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Such a cute little place with authentic Korean food. Seems family owned and operated with very friendly service. We enjoyed our dinner very much. Banchan is my favorite part.

Veronica R.

Yelp
Meal didn't sit well with me and made me sick. Love Korean food but save your money and try something else if you're thinking of trying this place. It's unfortunate because this place has great reviews.

Teyah G.

Yelp
The staff are super super nice and the lady who served us was so kind!! The food was DELICIOUS!!! Will definitely return :)
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
Awesome sit down and small restaurant. The service is really nice and the lady there always showed that she was proud of what she was serving. She gave a small side of homemade pickles with my seafood soup. I'll be here again to try something else

James H.

Yelp
My wonderful server advised me to get the beef bulgogi lunch plate to save a few dollars as I was going to order the entree, but the time permitted the special price. I appreciate that she could have let me pay a higher price and have been unknowing. Aside from that, I'd pay any price for this food. The beef bulgogi was rich with flavor, as was everything else on the plate. Rice perfectly cooked with that umami sweetness. Fast service and great ambiance. Will be back when I drive through Flagstaff.

Yelp
Love! Small business amazing food. Full of love my favorite . Fried chicken so good! Manu kimchi soup another banger! Everything delicious
google avatar

Yelp
place is just ok. service is meh!!! can see the difference between one customer and another. foods are just ok and expect to have the fried chicken with wow taste because i know korean fried chicken is so famous but for me, the batter is too thick and not fully fried. the chicken is also not well cooked...

Jalani A.

Yelp
The army men's stew is the best! Service is top tier love the vibes. It is clean and beautiful!

Yelp
Cool little spot and the owner was very friendly. Korean bento box was delicious! Try the Yazu tea.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place walking into downtown flagstaff and I am so glad I did! The girl working was extremely friendly and helpful and walked me thru the menu. I got the beef lunch special with rice and sides and it was fabulous!! Tons of flavor. Highly recommend this place for some delicious Asian flavors

Yelp
Update: It is always annoying that even though we order way too much food for their tiny two top tables they insist on crowding us at the small tables even though the restaurant is empty. They've done this three times but this is the first time they literally drug half of our table away. So, instead of our usual $120-$200 we spend, we protested our inconvenience and irrational, unnecessary treatment by not ordering bottles of sake or soju, not ordering 2 quarts of kimchi and dessert to go. By treating us this way and unnecessarily crowding us and embarrassing us, the restaurant easily lost $100 which means the server lost $25 and I just changed my review from five stars for everything to what you see now. And I probably won't consider coming back to this place for six months to a year when normally I'm here every three months at least. They just lost two loyal, generous customers. They never filled the table they took away from us or any other tables and they foolishly made the two single people that came in sit elbow to elbow at their tiny four seat bar. The place was empty when we left except for the two individuals forced to dine together at the bar. This is terrible treatment of your customers. Don't inconvenience the customers you have for the sake of the customers who might never walk through the door. This is just ignorant. --- Previous Review: This tiny place is phenomenal! Every time I visit I am impressed with the exceptional food. The preparation is flawless you must try their fried chicken, bulgogi, barbecue and their specialty drinks. I always buy extra kimchi to take home. I made an incredible Asian bloody Mary using the leftover Kimchi juice. It was amazing! Be sure to make reservations if possible, the place is very small.

Yelp
On the way to Utah, pass by This place, man No Regret, the best decision, we order spicy pork, and bulgogi, awesome food and great service, Gamsamhamida

Yelp
Authentic Korean restaurant in Flagstaff with a Korean female owner. The food was good and I liked that there are non spicy options. Army stew and the seafood noodle soup were good. The beef bulgogi was dry and too sweet in my opinion. The kimchi was really fresh and good. We asked for a second bowl which was $3 which is unusual because banchan is usually complimentary. I like that they had a good drink selection, including 3 different Korean beers. Good place to go if you want Korean food in Flagstaff. Street parking was easy.

Yelp
Tucked in a small strip of Flag Staff, AZ, stands an unassuming Korean restaurant. My group decided to grab some quick food while on a road trip - and man! This was the best meal we've had. Michelle is such a sweetie and was so amazing in her hospitality. DO NOT skip out of the tteokbokki and the soon tofu soup! Absolutely would be back to this. Worth our drive.

Cat V.

Yelp
The food was so good here except for the appetizer. We didn't like the So Dduk, which is skewered rice cakes and sausage fried with a sweet and spicy sauce. It was more like rice cakes and cocktail weiners with bbq sauce and mustard. All four at the table did not like it. The Bibimbap had so much flavor. It came with a white miso soup which was just ok. The sides were kimchi, fish cakes, and a cucumber salad, the salad was so good everyone couldn't get enough of it. We also had the Bulgogi and that also was very good with lots of flavors. We also took a Nagasaki soup to go. Unfortunately that was not good at all. It is a seafood soup and the only seafood they gave us was one small mussel. Needless to say very disappointing. I would go again for the main course!
google avatar

F. L.

Yelp
The food here is _fine_. Maybe my standards are simply too high for Flag. The food's authentic and home-style, but it's just not that great. I had the spicy pork bowl. The rice was cooked well, but heavily seasoned in a way that didn't balance the pork super well. The pork was more sweet than spicy, and honestly the premarinated stuff from H-Mart to grill at home has more of a kick and is crispier. The "three sides" (banchan: kimchi, cucumber salad, fish cake) were reasonably fresh, but nothing special. I'll likely be there again for soup at some point once winter sets in, and it does hit a spot if you have a craving, but it's really nothing special.

Yelp
Everything was super good. It's nice to see a Korean restaurant up here, I'd say the food is pretty authentic and tasty. They were busy and bussing everyone and we got our food in a timely manner. It's a nice small sit down inside, make sure to come early before the rush!!

Yelp
To start, the service was nothing short of amazing. We wanted to enjoy a wonderful late spring afternoon by dining outside. We called ahead to check if the outdoor area was available and to our surprise, the owner had cleaned off a table just for us (we are probably the first of the season to request outdoor dining). The outdoor tables also have pads for comfortable seating. The service we received from both the server and the owner was kind, considerate, and welcoming. Now! On to the food! The beef bulgogi was delicious and juicy. I was pleasantly surprised by how many sides came with the meal and each was tasty. Overall, the combinations of the flavors and portion sizes lend the dish a well balanced profile and it was an engaging eating experience. As can be seen in the picture I have included, the presentation is also very nicely done. I highly recommend Kokiyo to anyone who finds themselves in Flagstaff.

Guad M.

Yelp
Such a wonderful little place! The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We were seated quickly and did not have to wait long for our order. Generous portions full of flavor and quality. You will certainly leave Kokiyo with a full stomach and a satisfied mind. The beef bulgogi and the Korean fried chicken, along with all of our sides and sauces, were fantastic. The rest of the menu is begging us to come back for more!

Yelp
Wow, I just love the food here. Everything is amazing!!!! Chicken katsu, beef, and the fried chicken is just unbelievable. Nice little place. Great ambiance, service is great and friendly. I come here everytime I'm in town.
