Food Gifts From NYC Restaurants, 2023 - Eater NY

"Kolkata Chai Co. is more than just a cafe: It’s a lifestyle. Brothers and owners Ani and Ayan Sanyal opened their first location in the East Village in 2019, with the mission to rewrite the way masala chai has been coopted by chains like Starbucks and bring it back to its South Asian roots. Their chai — not too sweet — is delicious, and fans have followed, leading to a second cafe in Nolita. Now, you can peruse through one of several chai bundles for gifts this season for at-home sipping." - Emma Orlow

The Best Socially Conscious Sources for Coffee and Tea - Eater

"Through their New York shop, Ayan and Ani Sanyal — motivated by the appropriation of masala chai that they observed — aim to reclaim chai’s cultural roots. The company currently offers two DIY chai kits, a masala chai with Assam, green cardamom, cinnamon, black cardamom, black pepper, and cloves, and rose masala chai." - Katie Okamoto

Delicious chai and lattes served in a cozy space with exposed brick walls & friendly service. The seating is fairly limited so it’s best to enjoy the drinks on the go. I especially enjoyed the Dirty Chai, which was well spiced with a nutty coffee flavor. The samosa was also a highlight - crispy and packed with flavorful potato.

Best Chai in Town!! We tried the Masala Chai and the Dirty Chai and both are so delicious! Also the Samosas and the Breakfast Paratha! My god all these things were so delicious! Love this place! ♥️ The staff is so lovely and helpful too. Greetings from German visitors…

Everything here was pretty good! Staff are friendly and the atmosphere was cozy (small with a bit of seating). They also sell some products so you can make their stuff at home. Most items I personally found too sweet (e.g. chai ice cream) but very flavourful nonetheless. My favourite thing on the menu was the iced chai which had a good amount of ice, sugar, and chai flavour - which was great since usually iced chai tastes too diluted. Definitely recommend!

#saynotochaitea A must try tea shop, especially if you love Indian tea ( chai). I’m a Kolkata native and this place is named after the city. I feel extremely emotional and connected by the vibe and decor. The saffron tea and the masala tea both are absolutely amazing with right blend of aromatic spices, perfect amount of milk and sweetness, and of course the Assam tea powder ( not Darjeeling tea leaves). This is very authentic Kolkata street style milk tea- only element missing is the earthen cup where they serve the tea. They have samosa, and egg-roll as a snack - however we didn’t taste them. My two cents to the owners: 1. Please try to introduce the earthen pot ( bhNar in Bengali) 2. Please include some tea cabin type morning menu such as - bread/ omelette/ croquettes/ ghugni aka yellow peas stew/ desi cookies. 3. Please bring some more tables and chairs - make the room bigger maybe?

I love when I find a place for a good cup of coffee. I believe I tried the iced latte with Kesar topping. My drink had the perfect rich flavor flavor that was complemented perfectly by the creamy texture of the milk and the hint of sweetness from the syrup.

The masala chai was warm and spicy, with authentic flavors that made me reminisce about my time in India! I purchased a bag of loose chai so that I can make it at home.

So good!! They had the best chai everything, and it was all dairy-free. I really loved their soft serve chai ice cream and their iced oat milk chai. It was a beautiful day so we sat in their outdoor seating area and it was great! Very nice customer service. Amazing all around!!
