"Renowned for Hainanese-style rice noodles, Kolun.h has been serving locals since 1997. The signature dish comes with rich or clear broth, braised pork, radish and crispy pork belly. Don't miss the peppery-flavoured goat meat in an aromatic herb soup. Expect long queues at peak times." - Michelin Inspector

Not sure if this is the authentic Hainan-style rice noodles — I’ve never had the original. But this one? Tastes great, easy to enjoy, and totally hits the spot. The broth is nicely thick and flavorful, with soft noodles and generous cuts of crispy pork belly. There’s also a chunk of daikon radish that goes perfectly with the house-made shrimp paste and vinegar mix — adds a real punch of flavor. Tip: If you’re ordering takeaway, don’t forget to add a bowl!

Overview Hidden culinary treasure in the heart of Sao Chingcha, Kolun.h (ขนมจีนไหหลำโกหลุ่น) has perfected the art of Hainanese noodles, earning an impressive 4.3-star rating from 644 Google reviews. Located near the Tiger God Shrine (San Chao Pho Suea ศาลเจ้าพ่อเสือ), this modest eatery holds its own among the area's rich street food scene, drawing locals and travelers alike for its exceptional broths and expertly prepared pork dishes. Food & Menu Highlights Kolun.h is best known for its Hainanese-style noodles, served in two distinct broths: - Clear Soup – A light yet boldly peppery broth that delivers a comforting warmth. - Sticky Soup – Rich, velvety, and deeply flavorful, offering an indulgent depth of taste (highly recommended!). Popular Dishes: - Noodles with boiled pork + crispy pork + pig stomach in clear soup (70 THB) - Noodles with stewed pork + crispy pork + boiled pork + pig stomach in sticky soup (100 THB) (Signature) - Noodles with crispy pork in clear soup (80 THB) - Noodles with stewed pork + crispy pork in sticky soup (80 THB) While the restaurant also offers rice dishes, its true expertise shines through in its Hainanese noodle offerings. My Order: I opted for the signature dish – Hainanese noodles with stewed pork, crispy pork, boiled pork, and pig stomach in sticky soup (100 THB). Every element was executed to near perfection: - The broth – Deeply aromatic and richly seasoned, with a peppery warmth that lingers without overpowering. - The crispy pork belly – A masterpiece of texture, with its golden, shatteringly crisp skin giving way to succulent layers of tender meat. - The stewed pork – Braised to perfection, intensely flavorful with a melt-in-the-mouth tenderness. - The pig stomach & boiled pork – Delicately cooked, with a firm yet tender bite that absorbs the broth beautifully. - The toppings – A thoughtful balance of pickled vegetables, white radish, roasted sesame, and thinly sliced chilies, adding layers of acidity, crunch, and spice. - Kolun’s signature sauce – A house-made blend of fermented shrimp paste and chili, delivering an umami-rich, fiery kick that elevates every bite. For those who love crispy pork, the extra serving (150 THB for 10 pieces) is highly recommended, served with a sweet soy sauce dip. Ambiance & Service While the focus is undeniably on the food, the dining experience has been carefully considered: - The shop is compact yet well-spaced, with both indoor and outdoor seating. - Powerful ceiling fans indoors and personal table fans outdoors ensure a comfortable meal, even on humid Bangkok afternoons. - Hygiene standards are well-maintained, with each table disinfected and wiped clean after every guest. The Waiting Experience: I visited around 2 PM on a Sunday, an hour before closing, and there was still a queue—testament to the restaurant’s popularity. During peak lunch hours, waits can stretch up to 40 minutes, so I recommend arriving early morning or just before closing to avoid the longest lines. Upon arrival, diners collect a queue number and receive a menu in Thai or English. Seating is provided for those waiting, and the order-taker (who appears to be the owner’s son) is exceptionally friendly and fluent in English, making the process seamless for non-Thai speakers. Once seated, orders are pre-submitted, ensuring food arrives promptly. Minor Drawback A small inconvenience—the washroom was out of service, as indicated by a notice at the shop. While not a deal-breaker, it’s something to keep in mind if you're planning a longer visit. Verdict Kolun.h delivers an outstanding Hainanese noodle experience, combining bold flavors, expertly prepared meats, and a well-managed dining environment. Though queues can be long and restroom facilities limited, the rich broths, perfectly crisp pork, and warm hospitality make this a must-visit destination in Sao Chingcha. If you’re a noodle enthusiast, this spot should be high on your Bangkok food list.

Fantastic pork noodles, available in two different types of gravy/sauce (clear broth or thick sauce) - both delicious. We also tried the crispy pork belly, which was also delicious, but indeed, a somewhat small portion (the noodles were also on the small side, but sufficient). Beware though, we arrived at around noon (peak lunch hour) and were informed of an estimated hour-long wait. So we took a number and came back about 40-45 minutes later and were seated soon after. If I could do it again we would order the same noodles but double the portion of crispy pork. Also, the wait was definitely worth it.

Professional but overpriced even for this neighbourhood We had three dishes: stewed goat, crispy pork, and hainanese raw noodles in sticky sauce. The crispy pork was delicious but the portion size is disappointing for the price (150 baht!!) and seemed smaller than pictures indicated. The noodles were good and the best “value for money” at 70 baht. However the sauce required a generous helping of sambal - to the restaurants credit they have a sign on tables saying to add at least 3 scoops of sambal, I added a lot more. The goat soup was quite nice, with a nice broth which goes well with rice - however there was very little meat for a dish that costs 200 baht, just two meat pieces and lots of tripe. This is especially expensive considering the meat was not melt in your mouth amazing, it was just alright. The sauce is the real attraction, however it doesn’t come with any rice (extra 10 baht) Service was very professional and courteous. The atmosphere was okay, it’s an open shopfront restaurant on the street so don’t expect air con or anything, but we liked the seating and they put fans on the outdoor tables which were in the shade at noon. So overall was okay but disappointing portions for the price.

Very good and quick dishes which we got for breakfast. We arrived at opening and got a seat easily and were quickly served. The clear broth was extremely flavourful (heavy on the pepper) and the crispy pork stayed crispy in the soup The staff was efficient and welcoming.

Randomly stumbled onto this spot. The noodles were freshly made (udon style) which gave it incredible chewy texture. Got the "sticky" or "thick broth" that had immense seafood unami to it. Topped with some crispy pork belly and added their special shrimp paste sauce, which added a completely different flavor profile. Mustard greens added much needed acidity and the toasted sesame added a nutty and earthy balance. Not well known but I know it will be.

Magnificent Hainan style noodles with choices of pork; stewed pork, stewed pork ribs, stewed pork feet, boil pork, and the most anticipated crispy pork belly. There are 2 styles of soup; thick and clear, clear soup is really throat-soothing. They also have signature shrimp paste as optional seasoning for intense taste. Queue is quite long and the area is small, so you needed to come in prior, otherwise their ingredients would run out. However, their service mind is pleasing.

It's not bad for the taste, but the portion of food you get compared to the price feels too expensive, in my opinion.
