Kombu Sushi

Lovely place! Went for lunch and got 1 bento box and a few vegan sushi rolls. The miso soup and veggies in the bento box were delicious and fresh, and the vegan sushi rolls were great! Partner said that the chicken katsu was fluffy and had the crispiest breading ever! Super happy and loved hearing about Kombu’s story and seeing all the cute dogs! Will definitely recommend this place in this future

We came in for lunch and was greeted by Nabor and seated. Menu was offered and drink order was taken immediately. We had iced green tea which was very refreshing. We ordered a salad to share and some rolls. Thank you Nabor for the great congratulation and thank you for your kind wishes for my son.

Absolutely loved the sushi and atmosphere at Kombu. Will was a great server and made great recommendations on specialty rolls. Overall great experience and absolutely recommend!

Kombu is a great neighborhood spot. Happy hour is a pretty good deal. I’ve eaten in and taken out many times, never disappointed! The food is always fresh and delicious; the staff is super sweet!

My partner and I love this place. The staff is the best, and fish always tastes fresh. Definitely awesome for the price. Their salmon fusion roll is so delicious, we also love the baja. And of course, we always close with a little blue fin nigiri treat.

It was wonderful, good prices good food, extensive vegan dishes and attention to details. I can only recommend thank you all for allowing dogs and make it extra special for them.

Had dinner here last Saturday for a friend's birthday, the manager Gary asked if we were okay moving our reservation to the outdoor patio which was fine but made us wait an additional 20 minutes after our reservation time of 7:30 that we arrived on time for. Our waitress was amazing and one of the highlights of this place. The food was good but the size of the rolls was on the smaller side. One less star for making us wait 20 minutes past our reservation time.

Unfortunately, I have no photos to share with you guys, because it disappeared before I could get my phone out . Hahahahahahaha but I can truly say without a doubt. This is some good stuff. I've been coming here periodically for a while now and I have never had a bad visit. Everyone that works. There is always really nice down to earth and just very welcoming and friendly. The place is really cool. It's a small place, but it has great decor and very comfortable. So you feel nice and relaxed when you're having your meal. Now for the sushi,,,,, Just wow . every single time I've come here it's delicious. Everything is fresh , the way they present. The food also is really cool to be straight up honest it's beautiful. .... It's been a little while since I've come to this place since my schedule at work has changed.... But I can tell you without a doubt if you get a chance go and check them out because I know you will not be disappointed. (Side note) DAMM I'm getting hungry just remembering how delicious everything tastes....

Great little neighborhood spot with friendly service and solid food. My favorite was the sashimi, which comes with large fresh pieces of delicious fish. The rolls are not as great with rougher chops and the best pieces clearly used for the sashimi. I also steer clear of anything with sauce because they have a heavy pour. Best of all, they have a small parking lot in the back. Free parking on Sunset just can't be beat.

Great place for sushi. They have an outdoor patio in the back that's a great spot. Tip: if you are driving there, they have a small parking area around the back of the restaurant with 3-4 spaces.

My friend and I had different taste so what we ordered was a compromise. I like nigiri and fried roll. She was avoiding fried food so our rolls were a bit more healthy. The blue fin tuna was fresh and tasty. Other rolls were good but the yellow tail roll was tiny. For the higher prices, I expected better portion on that roll. Overall, good, but pricy. Sushi to Die For in Northridge tastes as good but less pricy.

The vibe at Kombu is quite lively and fun, it's hard to have a bad time here. Service started off really strong but got progressively weaker and less attentive (especially in regard to food coming out) as the night went on and the restaurant got busier. Solid sushi spot with some classic specialty rolls and tasty izakaya option. DYNAMITE MUSSELS - 5 Stars! Favorite dish of the night. This was rich in flavor and the mussels were nice and meaty. SPICY TUNA CRISPY RICE CAKES - 4 1/2 Stars. A fabulous interpretation of this dish. Rice was crispy with great texture and the spicy tuna definitely brought the heat. GYOZA (W CHICKEN) - 3 1/2 Stars. This was ok, probably wouldn't get it again. CRUNCHY ROLL - 4 1/2 Stars. A very tasty roll with great texture and flavors! CITRON ROLL - 4 Stars. A fan favorite here and a very solid roll! SALMON FUSION ROLL - 4 Stars. Another fan favorite and a very good roll! Will definitely be back for their happy hour, and would definitely grab dinner here again but would try to get here a bit earlier when it's a bit less chaotic. Ambiance is great, lively, with a buzzing energy in the air.

Have no complaints whatsoever. Had a wonderful experience from the minute we were greeted by a worker who held the door open for us as we entered, till we left. We had the Brussel sprouts and mussels for appetizers, both were super good! The cosmic, Alaska and firecracker rolls my husband and daughter had were delicious. Granddaughter had the kids menu bento box with teriyaki chicken, rice, chicken gyoza and edamame, she was extremely happy with it. I had the teriyaki chicken bowl with veggies and it was delicious. We forgot to snap pics of all the food, hunger got the best of us The waitress was super friendly and attentive, even offering assistance for my granddaughter's chopsticks, coloring page and crayons. I wish I got her name because she was amazing. We will definitely be back for more delicious food and the wonderful customer service when we come to visit family again.

My friend and I loved everything here! They had a wide range of delicious starters that had us wanting more. We started off with some agedashi tofu and spicy garlic edamame. Both were fresh and flavorful. I really do recommend the Nirvana roll though! It was tangy and fresh with both albacore and salmon with lemon on top. No ginger needed it balanced out everything well. Even their basic roll was great. Our server was very kind and always checking in to see if we were enjoying our meal. I will definitely come back to this little spot!

The service at the restaurant was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we had a pleasant experience. However, ambiance was a bit concerning. Given the area, it's understandable that the environment can get lively, but the presence of some loud, intoxicated individuals disrupted the overall atmosphere, making it feel a bit chaotic. We managed to overlook this and still enjoyed our meal. As for the food, it was delicious and well-prepared, though the portion sizes were a bit lackluster, especially considering the prices. Compared to other sushi restaurants in the area, the value could be improved, as the dishes felt somewhat small for the cost. tldr; The other customers were a bit too loud and chaotic & the place was expensive

Good for Happy Hour between 3PM - 6PM daily, and Late night Happy Hour 10PM - 12AM Friday and Saturday. There is street parking and there is a parking lot in the back with a very skinny lane to their parking lot, good for 90 minutes. You have to see host for a parking pass. Citron roll and salmon fusion roll are yummy. The Paloma drink is hella strong! Service was kind of slow despite it being slow but they were nice. I sat down at the bar, no water, no menu, no nothing for like 10-15 minutes. There is an automatic 3.5% surcharge, you won't see it unless you get the receipt sent to you because they are a cashless payment only.

Another first timer and the experience was great. We stopped by for a little something which lead to something big. First off, walked by so many times and never ever stopped in for a meal. We just sat at the bar which was nice. Nabor, who took care of us was excellent. Very friendly and chatty which is nice. Makes the experience for relax and easy. Plus we didn't know that happy hour was going on. Even in a weekend. They had a good selection of items, for starters and rolls. Your typical can be made to a cut or hand roll. None of the specialty rooms were on the menu. Also 5.00 for beer which was nice. Started with some of the spicy tuna and rice cake, which was great. The nice little crunch but with the soft rice and tuna. It was nice. We also had the shishito pepper and karaage chicken. Peppers were nice, the nice kick to a meal. The chicken was ok, nothing really major about it but it was good. Also, portion was a little small. But the tempura shrimp and veggies were a big hit. Perfect crunch and accompanying with the sauce. Also the portion was great, with the different selections of veggies. Highly recommend. Had a couple of the tuna and hamachi onigiri which was good. It is pretty filling with the rice but great. Both the eel and yellowtail cut roll was nice as well. Nothing fancy with them but good. The rest was all hand roll. A good selection ordered. Albacore, salmon skin, scallop, tuna, yellowtail and blue crab and avocado hand roll. They were a nice size and portioned well with enough meat and rice. Service was great. The staff were all excellent and very friendly. Good didn't take long to come out. Also ordering from the chef at the counter was nice as well. It's a cute place along the strip. Didn't even notice that had a little outdoor area till the restroom visit. Nabor was amazing and the whole experience was great. Will definitely be back.

Spicy tuna rice cakes are beyond. I stopped by Kombu briefly, but the ambiance was lovely (outdoor seating!) and it's situated well within Silverlake's Sunset blvd! The staff was kind, and the happy hour menu had pretty good deals. I'd love to come back to explore the rest of the menu!

This place continues to surprise me! Been coming for about 10 years but just learned that it's named after the owners dog!! They're super dog friendly and have the kindest staff. Nabor took the greatest care of me and my partner on a gorgeous unexpectedly warm day- the patio quickly filled up! And when our food was taking longer than expected he took ownership of making sure we were good. The food was yummy- as usual- and I even found a new favorite sake!

Came here for sushi dinner and it wasn't too busy so we were seated right away. I ordered the citron roll & crispy onion albacore. The sushi was fresh and I loved the crispy onion on top of the albacore for the extra texture. Citron roll has a nice heat with the spicy tuna and jalapeño on top. Parking- street parking

this has to be the most accommodating restaurant we've ever been to. everyone was so nice, especially Moji- they have a nice happy hour but we came for dinner this time- small shareable plates! there's a few parking spots in the back, and a nice dog club with meals for your fur babe! looking forward to returning for another happy hour and joining the pup club!

We were in the area around lunch time, and we kind of stumbled into Kombu Sushi...and it ended up being a great decision. Kombu Sushi has some really great lunch specials, including a lunch bento that you can customize. I ordered the lunch bento with chicken teriyaki, California roll, and spicy tuna roll. The chicken teriyaki was absolutely perfectly broiled/grilled and the rolls were delish. We also ordered the udon (not offered as a lunch special) and it was also really good...the broth was seasoned well and the tempura that it came with was fried magnificently. Overall, the portions were perfect and the service was super, super friendly. The food was really good and with such fabulous prices for their lunch specials, we'll definitely be back soon!

The rolls were really good however the spicy garlic edamame wasn't my favorite. They were kind of dry and not saucy enough. The citron roll is great for people who like lemony rolls and the other one had salmon and more of a peppery flavor. This is great sushi if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a far drive just to go here. The service was great and it's a cute little spot with big windows.

Had a wonderful experience here for Teddy's birthday. Everything was yummy. I always do all nigiri, but they reccomended to try the spicy tuna crispy rice, and it was phenomenal. Dog friendly and sushi, what more does a girl want? Teddy also loved his salmon plate.

A good spot for sushi lunch! They offer lunch specials from 11:30-3pm and it's a good variety to choose from. I got the sashimi plate, 7 pieces of sushi selected by the chef. If you're hungry (like I was) maybe get something a little heavier like a bento box or lunch bowls. My boyfriend got the one of the bento boxes and was quite happy with his lunch. Lunch specials range from $15-$20. Dog friendly and they have a pet menu too!

Went here for dinner and ordered a salmon avocado roll and dynamite roll the salmon avocado roll was small but tasty. The dynamite roll was missing the scallops on top but the waiter gave me half off or remake the scallops on the side for the issue. I just chose half off because I only had half left anyways by the time I got ahold of someone and reread the menu to make sure that I did order the right thing. I ordered another salmon avocado roll too go but had several small fish bones in some of the pieces which was another issue for me. The server was nice that helped me with my issue at the restaurant.

My daughter suggested this place for Happy Hour on a weekend and it was GREAT!! I definitely would come back again. The prices were good, and the menu had many choices to choose from. I ordered the tempura veggie with shrimp, and it looked yummy and tasted great. The rest of my family ordered sushi and they enjoyed their food. Drink wise, I got the sencha green tea because it was free refills. It was ok tasting. Service was fine. Ambiance was nice and relaxing where we sat. We chose to sit in the outdoor patio in the back because it was quieter, and more space, and we had the place to ourselves for a while which was nice. They also have another section outside where there was a birthday party going on, but the noise level was fine. I noticed inside was crowded and noisy. It's walkable from our place, so we didn't have to look for street parking which was nice.

Haven't been here in a long time but I thought I'd give another try since it's in my neighborhood. Food was mediocre, at best. Our server was ok. I felt like I wasted my money dining here. My husband ordered a yellowtail cut roll and the fish was RED. I told him that wasn't yellowtail but he said the server told him it was yellowtail and set it down. He doesn't like to send things back, so he just ate it. I had some, we both agreed that it was grainy. Beware: there is a 3.5% service fee. I'm totally fine with service fees but please let the patrons know when you bring them their check.

My girlfriend and I got: - spicy tuna crispy rice cakes - Chicken Gyoza - Ahi tuna tatami salad - Miso soup - serpent - Salmon avocado roll I would definitely recommend the spicy tuna crispy rice cakes, chicken Giza, ahi tuna tatami salad, and the miso soup. The serpent roll and the salmon avocado roll were only ok in my opinion. And the whole reason we came was for the sushi, but it wasn't what we had . We were also placed right next to the door which was super loud and cold, even though we had placed a reservation. They didn't show any pictures of the inside or the patio so we weren't even aware they had it when placing a reservation. It does get busy here, so make sure to call or book ahead. I give this place a 3.75 stars if I could give half ratings.

Loved this spot! The pepper seared tuna on the cosmic roll was amazing, such a unique smoky flavor. The tuna crispy rice (not pictured) was also very tasty, good crisp and great sauces. Loved the cozy ambience, very friendly and helpful staff, and there are seats at the bar too. They also have a cute photobooth in the back which makes it great for LA visitors/cute souvenir!

Short: Awesome experience, featuring a great happy hour menu with reasonable prices and tasty items. Kombu Sushi is a stellar sushi place with a wide selection of dishes that cater to all tastes. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is incredibly attentive, making for a delightful dining experience. The sushi was fresh and always nicely presented. My favorite was the Crispy tuna rice cakes, which has bold flavors and a crunchy base, I highly recommend! A good time to try this gem is during their happy hour which runs 3-6pm daily! The happy hour features a dozen choices for hand rolls, a wide variety of small plates and some drink specials!

Terrible service! They offered $2 off ALL specialty rolls for happy hour, HOWEVER, when the bill came she claimed that the sushi roll we got was not part of the happy hour when it was clearly on the happy hour menu. Then they tried to send food to our table that wasn't ours and tried adding to our bill!! Twice! Also, when it came to tip, as I was grabbing the cash to give, she reached over me and grabbed the cash out in front of me very rudely and unprofessional. She got mad at the amount and walked off. Do not come here, service is horrible!!

Try the back patio, you won't be disappointed! A vast menu and incredibly friendly and prompt service. Can't recommend it enough.

I LOVE KOMBU!!! I am proud to call myself a regular here, especially during their lunch hours - which i believe is hands down one of the best lunch special deals in town. And if you don't make it for lunch, they also have great happy hour so you're always going to get some sort of value and good deal. What sets this place apart also is the incredible staff. Special shoutout to NABOR who showers every guest that walks in with incredible kindness and great energy. And thank you NOMI who was our wonderful server on our last visit. Can't wait to come back to get my sushi fix!

Had a mix up with my uber eats order and waited 2 hours - I canceled the order thinking it would never come only for it to be at my door when I stepped out to grab my second order from another spot. I'm grateful Kombu still left the order because the food was delicious. - I canceled the order because when I called to check on my Uber Eats order, I was first told the order was picked up and then I was told the driver was a minute away. Because I was told two different things I wasn't sure if the order was gonna come, and then when I went to cancel the order, I saw that it was actually being delivered by the restaurant themselves . When Uber Support called they couldn't verify if it would be delivered. Because it is Sushi and I also did order some appetizers. My appetizers did arrive cold because the driver who delivered didn't ring the door doorbell and left it at the door. Despite all of this, I would definitely order their food again or maybe go in person and try it because it still was really good . I ordered the yellowtail roll the Satsuma fries the calamari the spicy tuna roll and rainbow roll.. the fries and calamari were soggy and still delicious. Leaving this review since my order was refunded, but still wanted to shout them out for an effort and quality ! Woke up this morning to all the text messages from the restaurant - they did make an effort to communicate updated the review to five stars

Kombu Silverlake has some delicious fish, crafted with skill and expertise. Everyone works hard here. Its a clean little place with indoor and outdoor service. I wish they would allow customers to park in the back because parking is difficult on the streets.

The service and staff were very kind and attentive. I ordered their gyoza, salmon avocado roll, blue crab avocado roll, and the salmon fusion roll. I totally recommend the salmon fusion roll. It was delicious. Their gyoza was tasty too! The other two rolls were good but could've used a little more flavor. I will be returning to try other items from their menu.

Our server was great, and we enjoyed sitting outside on their patio. However, the sushi was average and quite pricey for what we ordered. As an Asian with high expectations for sushi, I found it underwhelming and would personally give it a 2.5/5. If you're not particularly familiar with sushi and are looking for a sushi place in Silver Lake, this could still be an option.

Had a really nice lunch here recently, they have a nice covered patio in the back and there's plenty of street parking nearby. Service was really friendly and they even brought out some water for our dog since it was warm outside! I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their lunch specials!

What a sweet place. Huge back patio and very dog friendly. It's named after the cutest pup according to their info sheet. Great lunch specials menu. We enjoyed a nice relaxed lunch. The bento was good, plenty of food for me for $20. The sashimi was delicious, excellent quality and generous portion. Really nice service. I'd go back anytime. They have a great happy hour menu!

Vibes: trendy, hipster. Service: Not bad. They were not super attentive but it wasn't hard to make eye contact and try to ask for something. Brussels sprouts: 4/5 flavorful Mussels: they cut it up for you already and then put it into the shell. I was not expecting that. Hahahaha Not sure if fancy or if they are trying to cover up something. Spicy Tuna roll: 4/5 I personally don't like spicy tuna rolls but my partner loves them and came here specifically for this. Crunch roll: 5/5 your standard crunch roll. Citron: 5/5 Lemon-y. Pretty good!

Every time I walked past Kombu it seemed so unassuming but when I finally came to the restaurant and night for a dinner, suddenly it was full of life and atmosphere. The menu has lots to offer and has me excited to return to try it all! The rolls although slightly pricey did not disappoint, the fish was buttery and the spice on point. The star of the show was the mango hamachi salad! Staff were friendly and service was quick. Glad to say I was surprised and impressed by Kombu Sushi

What a refreshing little restaurant!, a friendly neighborhood eatery. We had the nicest server, in fact, everyone working there was lovely. Was also delighted to know that this is a family owned restaurant named after their dog Kombu. The sushi was amazing, so many different flavors and textures with beautiful presentations. Their cucumber salad was crips and flavorful...wish I could tell you everything we ordered, I can show you photos, though, does that count? We arrived a little before 6 and had our choice of seating and within 10 minutes, the place was packed, every single table was taken! Parking was a challenge, as it appears to be in a very popular area. Luckily, after driving around for a few minutes we found a metered spot. Sure wish this place was closer to home, would be able to come more often. Check it out!

Ordered take out, took about 45-50 minutes total to get my food (almost 20 minutes more than what I was originally told). Get home to eat and the sushi lacks flavor, all the rolls tasted the exact same, it was warm which worries me for tomorrows possible upset stomach, and the portion sizes are small. I ordered 5 specialty rolls for $100 and it's probably the most regrettable $100 I've spent. Would not recommend coming here, I took a chance to try a new sushi spot and was let down. Sticking to my go to spot, Kaiba in Monterey park where the portion sizes are bigger the flavor is profound and you get bang for your buck.

If you sit outside on the back patio: you may or may not get eaten alive by mosquitos. Aside from being bug food, the food was great! The Ahi Tuna Tataki Salad was filling and so fresh, perfect to eat on a hot summer day. Our server Aja was very sweet, friendly, and attentive. Would come back again to try some more of the menu.

Love this spot!! Reasonable prices and our server was SO attentive to all our dietary restrictions. My bf has a fish allergy but came in with me anyways because I love sushi. they were able to make vegan modifications to things like the miso soup to keep it fish-sauce free. Really great server, wish I could remember his name! - california roll, Philadelphia roll, tamago, sweet potato fries, miso soup, etc.. all delicious will return!! indoors was cozy, heard the outside space is nice too. parking can be tough but not impossible
