The 17 Best Restaurants In The Marina

"Marina-goers finally have an option for Japanese bentos that stand up against the best in the city: Komeya No Bento, a tiny takeout-only cafe that also serves fantastic matcha. Go for the salmon truffle box with sweet and vinegary rice, or the chicken katsu drizzled with a velvety house sauce. Basically, whenever you want a rice-and-meat lunch that’s not Asian Box, swing by this counter-service spot. " - julia chen 1, lani conway

Komeya No Bento Review - Marina - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Marina isn’t exactly a hotbed of Japanese restaurants—you’re more likely to bump into a luxury dogwear store (an actual thing) than a great homestyle spot you might find in Japantown or the Avenues. But the neighborhood finally has an option for Japanese bentos that stand up against the best in the city. The rice on the salmon truffle box is sweet and vinegary, and chicken katsu drizzled with a velvety house sauce is flawlessly fried. They also do chazuke with slow-simmered duck broth, and a ton of matcha drinks. Swing by this small counter-service spot on your way to a sunny picnic at Fort Mason, or when you want a rice-and-meat lunch that’s not Asian Box." - Julia Chen

"Komeya No Bento is a Japanese restaurant in the Marina that focuses on takeout bento boxes, chazuke, and matcha drinks. Some of the most interesting bento boxes seem like the chicken karaage box and the salmon in truffle soy. " - Ricky Rodriguez

This is the beautiful, most well-presented to-go bento box I have ever seen in my life 🌉 This specific box was the Salmon In Truffle Soy, which was Norwegian Raw Salmon in truffie oil and house made yuzu soy on a bed of yummy sushi rice, Japanese potato salad, roasted grape tomato, deep fried sweet corn, pickled cucumber, and beans sprouts! The salmon was soooo delicious and fresh, and it was just the right flavor! It wasn’t too salty or fishy, and the texture was just right! The side dishes were great too! The corn was actually really cute, but I didn’t flip it in the picture to show it’s true beauty because I was in a rush haha It was really interesting because it was a piece of corn with the skin still firm and together, which I’ve never really eaten it like this before, and it was pretty cool! Honestly, it’s really nice to see a place put extra care and attention to their placement and presentation even though the food is packed to-go because literally no one really does that and everyone just packs food in those basic styrofoam/plastic containers :P If you’re curious, the box was like, a really really thick paper material or like a light kind of wood hehe It was pretty high-quality for to-go food! The matcha here was also really good and high-quality as well! It had a rich flavor, and it definitely is on the top tier level of matcha! The sea salt foam was perfect and was milky! The mango syrup at the bottom tasted really fresh and authentic too! I waited about 30 min in line, and another 20 min for my order haha so just be patient! Make sure you have a good parking spot too because some people attempted to park right in front of the shop thinking it was going to be a quick trip 👀 If you’re curious, the 2 boxes and 2 matchas were a little over $50 haha Overall, this was such a nice experience, and the workers work very hard to get all the orders out! Even though they closed at 6:30pm, there were still 20-ish people outside in line, but they were gracious enough to take everyone’s order, wow 🥺

I have an addiction to matcha and I could tell you that this spot has made me become even more addicted to it! Pro-tip order online to avoid the long wait. There was a super long line even 5 minutes before closing. Ordered their iced matcha latte and it did not disappoint. It was so smooth. You could tell they did not skimp on the matcha powder. It was slightly bitter in a good way!! Nothing negative to say about the matcha. I tried recreating it and I just could not. I will be back to try their food items because it looks like a work of art. 05.31.2025 | Saturday @2:25pm

Google
It was a beautiful Tuesday in the city. My partner and I had decided to stop by this spot to grab some bentos and matcha. Everything we got was outstanding. From the two matcha lattes that had great texture and strong matcha flavor. Btw the mango matcha latte is fabulous. The bentos are also fantastic. We got a Chicken Katsu Obento and a Salmon in Truffle Soy Obento. Both of these items were just fantastic and with so many little sides there was great complexity in the bites of food you could construct. Overall I really enjoyed this spot and it may be my go to for matcha in the city.

Google
I didn’t get any drinks here so can’t speak to that. The food itself is pretty good, it’s just really expensive for what you get in my opinion. Each box is almost $20, and it’s not that much food ultimately. Once again, pretty good but hard to justify at that price point. Will maybe go again before making a more final judgement but not dying to go back.

Google
The bentos are fire! The matcha was just okay—I’ll definitely give the drinks another try. I went around lunchtime and there was a line but it moved fast. The staff were very polite and welcoming.

Google
Matcha was … unmemorable but not sacrilegious. The matcha was decently strong but a little grassy and did not have either a sweet or umami profile (but that is personal taste). The bento had a nice quantity but it was kind of expensive. The wasabi tasted a little chemical-ly to me (but maybe I just don’t like wasabi). I didn’t taste the truffle at all but the salmon slices were thick and buttery smooth. I really liked the caramelized corn rib, which was perfectly sweet and salty, as well as the sweet potato, which almost felt like a dessert at the end!! The inside of the store was an absolute disaster — crowded, disorganized, loud, stuffy, you get the idea. It felt boarding a 787 on United where everyone’s trying to make sure they make it before the purge (when they start checking bags). ORDER ONLINE AHEAD OF TIME!! In the store everyone’s trying to hit the buttons on the singular kiosk anyway. They will not notify you when it is ready so just go look in the tiny corner to see if it’s ready; the drinks will probably come out faster. Bring it to Fort Mason Park and have a little picnic on the grass.

Google
May 2025 Local Japanese takeaway stall. As the description is categorized as a restoz there is hardly any room for diners in the small space that is mainly taken up by the counter. This is all the more evident with the long queues of people ordering. As to the food offerings, we did get to try a variety of drinks and they were authentically true to their declaration of ceremonial grade matcha. Food orders took too much time due to the queues but shows much promise. As mentioned service is only via the counter.

Google
top tier bentos and tasty matcha drinks! highly recommend and would come back to try other bentos. a little pricy, but good quality. salmon in truffle soy: perfect sides and tasty salmon! must try. wish the bentos came with a container to put soy sauce in. strawberry fresh milk & matcha foam: overpriced but delicious drink. would probably just order a regular strawberry matcha

Yelp
i never give reviews but i had to. this is my fav place for matcha, but i think that they are super understaffed/ unorganized. i go here at least two times a week and i would have to wait 15 mins for a matcha even if its empty.... today i waited 30 mins.

Yelp
Been meaning to try this place for so long! Came here on a Tuesday morning but placed an order the night before for a quick pickup. I went up to the counter and told them I had a pickup order and they just gave it to me, so it's pretty easy to do. There's not a ton of seating inside the actual small shop, but the transportability of the bento boxes and drinks make it easy to take it to a nearby park or enjoy it outside on a bench. I got the Salmon in Truffle Soy Bento Box and the Matcha Latte. I carried it for about half an hour before eating, but luckily they put a sealed lid on the drink under the regular plastic lid so you don't have to worry about spills. Salmon in Truffle Soy Bento Box: 5/5, so fresh and delicious! The truffle flavor isn't overwhelming, which I was concerned about since it's such an earthy flavor. Loved the corn and the tomatoes more than I thought I would too - each of the sides really held their own! Matcha Latte: 4/5, nicely mixed and smooth. Maybe a tad milkier than I would like, but still a good drink. Perfect place to pick up something nice for a picnic with friends. Definitely want to try the other bento boxes!

Yelp
Calling and ordering ahead was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my adult life. They have online ordering, but it didn't seem to be working . I called ahead and they told me the food will be ready in 30 minutes which was accurate . When I got there there was a loooooooong line out the door just to order I imagine more than 30 minutes to order and then another 30 minutes We tried the chicken Katsu bento the duck breast bento, and the salmon sashimi bento, and enjoyed them all. I liked that the chicken Katsu cuts were very thick sometimes when I peel off the batter there's not much meat left, but not here. The meat is generous and very tender, even on its own . Duck breast was also perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned with a slight kick. Salmon and sashimi tasted really fresh and also just had a twang of kick. The sides were pretty, but not particularly filling . I did enjoy the small pieces of sweet potato. It came with along with the corn ribs. Comes with a potato salad as well. I thought the Matcha latte tasted really authentic and high-quality you can customize the sweetness. The Hojicha latte tasted more artificial to me. There are some small benches inside and out, so plan to take to go to the park nearby. Staff was really nice, especially for working in such a busy and cramped space

Yelp
I had high expectations for their matcha since my friend says its the best one she's had. Luckily I ordered ahead for pick up because the line was long! Got some side-eyes for going straight in, but too bad for you~~! lol jk I ordered strawberry matcha foam latte - we felt like we tasted coconut in the foam!? But yes sip the drink for stronger matcha flavor, once we mixed everything, it tasted more like a strawberry milkshake? lol it's tasty and creamy and delicious. yuzu jasmine tea - refreshing and light. chicken katsu bento - hearty, juicy, solid. salmon in truffle soy ikura bento - yummy, they cook their sushi rice perfectly. tasty. both bentos came with some seasoned bean sprouts, sweet potato, potato salad, corn and cucumbers. nice bento indeed. the workers were nice during pick up, definitely a tiny spot so ordering ahead really is the way to go if you can! if I'm in the area, I would definitely get something here again!

Yelp
Not in SF very often, so took advantage of needing to be around Fort Mason to stop by Komeya No Bento. Came around 11:30am on a Friday and there was maybe 1-2 people in line to order. Passed by again after 12:30pm and the line was out the door and about halfway down the block. To be fair there isn't much space inside for a line. I ordered the salmon with truffle soy as well as a mango milk matcha. For the matcha: I wasn't able to customize the sweetness, but as someone who usually gets 25-30% sweet at boba shops I thought this drink was just right! Not too sweet. The mango is a good addition and I think honestly tastes better as a flavor combo than strawberry and matcha. The matcha had nice flavors and was nice and smooth as well. After ordering I waited about 5 minutes before my drink was ready. For the salmon: wow, the fish is so fresh and melt in your mouth smooth. The truffle flavor complements it well. I liked all the side dishes, which includes corn, potato salad, I think sweet potatoes, some cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, and some mung bean sprouts. I think they're all flavored well and just enough to really complement the highlight of the bento: the salmon and the rice. I plan to come back to try the duck as well! After ordering I waited about 10 minutes before my food was ready.

Yelp
Dare I say they have the best matcha lattes in SF - bold, fun flavors, not watered down at all. Komeya No Bento has long lines especially on weekends; I would recommend placing an online pick up order maybe 30-40 minutes in advance. Portion sizes are a bit small for the price, but everything is carefully and deliciously prepared. I love their truffle salmon and the corn rib side. Will be returning to try all of their bento options! PSA they are closed on Sundays.

Yelp
So incredibly tasty and well executed! I feel like this is some of the best sushi alongside Matcha that I have had in the Bay Area. We did have to wait in line for around 30 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. My partner and I only bought one bento box to share, and we regretted that. We wished we would have purchased two because it was so good. I got the mango Matcha latte and my partner got the regular Matcha latte. I think for the regular Matcha latte, I prefer my Matcha more sweet, so I should have selected the higher sweetness option. But since they let you adjust the sweetness, it wasn't a problem. For the mango Matcha, it was delicious! It definitely felt a bit more on the sugar side because I think of the condensed milk? But nonetheless, it was very good. I feel like the ambience was a typical food spot in San Francisco that is very popular but maybe needing to expand their staff and space due to the demand. If they had a small sitting area to eat, it would be incredible.

Yelp
Finally got to try Komeya after hearing so many great things about this place! I definitely recommend ordering ahead for pickup if you don't like waiting in line. Salmon in Truffle Soy Bento -- 9/10 Everything in the box was super yummy! Salmon tasted fresh and you could taste the truffle. I could honestly eat 2 of these boxes just for the salmon. The sides were all great too. My favorites were the bean sprouts, cucumber, and potato salad. The fried sweet potato and corn were good, but a bit too sweet for my preference. I wish there were a little more savory sides in the bento, but that's just me. Iced Matcha Latte -- 7.5/10 I heard their matcha lattes were one of the best in SF. It was good but not the best I've had. I liked how it had a nice strong matcha taste to it though! Definitely need to go back and give it another try.

Yelp
THE BEST MATCHA IN TOWN!!! I'm so glad my friend and I decided to stop by to try their matcha even though they are known for their bentos. I'm glad we arrived right when they opened because a line started forming out the door. The place itself is very cozy with a few seats available. I do like the seats near the window. I ordered their Mango Milk Matcha Foam ($7.75) with Oat Milk ($0.85). The drink was delicious once everything was mixed together. The matcha was blended extremely well. Price is on the steeper side, especially since I am lactose and had to substitute the regular milk to oat milk. The self order kiosk made the ordering process go smoothly. There were three baristas and they were fast and efficient. My friend ordered their Matcha Latte w/ Red Bean and Mochi and loved it, so I would like to come back again to try that.

Yelp
Delicious bento boxes and amazing mango matcha latte! I got the mango fresh milk matcha cream and the mango syrup was really fresh. Strong mango flavor but doesn't overtake the matcha flavor. The matcha cream was perfect. You can see them whisk the matcha and they use Marukyu Koyamaen matcha powder. One of my favorite brands and they use the empty tins as decoration. The salmon in truffle soy bento was perfect and has lots of sides. Great value for $22 a box. Subtle truffle flavor and salmon tasted fresh. Came with bean sprout, cucumber, potato salad, fried sweet potato, sun dried tomato, corn rib, radish, and a strong wasabi. The duck karaage was interesting and something I haven't seen before. Gave it a try and the seasoning was great and had a creamy sauce. Crispy skin. Comparing chicken to duck. The duck is fattier and a bit chewier. Worth a try if you like duck. Would come back here when I'm in the city. They have very short hours right now.

Yelp
Marukyu Koyamaen stan for life!!! First sip of the matcha and I just KNEW! Plus they had tons of marukyu koyamaen tins displayed. The matcha is so smooth, rich, and umami forward. Perfectly sweetened at the 50% sweet option for the matcha w/ salted foam. Can't adjust sugar for the strawberry matcha but it definitely was on the sweeter side. I find that a lot of strawberry matchas are overpowered by strawberry flavor, but the matcha really shined through in this one. A perfect balance. I would LOVE to come back here to try their bentos as well. This place is very small and cramped, with barely any seating. Parking was also SO DIFFICULT. Took us a good 20 minutes to finally find a parking spot on the street that was about a 3 minute walk to the shop. Despite being so busy, we were able to order and get our drinks within 10-15 minutes. Prices are on the steeper side, but much worth and occasional splurge!

Yelp
If you go, prepare for a line! We waited maybe about 20 minutes before ordering. It's a small spot so definitely a bit hectic getting in and out to order. The matcha was solid and above your typical matcha. Decently flavorful. The bento boxes were good as well! Definitely tasty but the sides weren't all my favorite. A bit pricey as well
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for the drinks only. I stopped by for an iced matcha latte on a Saturday before noon. The line quickly formed around me. It took about 15 minutes for my order to come out, which wasn't bad given the crowd. I would come back for this drink and try the food next time! Order is by iPad and this storefront is pick up only.

Yelp
Very balanced meal to have for lunch! Salmon was perfectly seasoned, not overly salty. I usually like to have a bit of everything each bite so in terms of that the flavors paired very well together. Although I wished the potato salad was seasoned a bit more. It lacked the character of a potato salad and was leaning towards mash potatoes. Nonetheless delish! I also got the matcha with cheese foam which was strong and perfectly sweetened at 100%. My biggest suggestion is to order online ahead of time because you're going to be waiting in a very long line.

Yelp
Probably my favorite place in the city. Everything is so reasonably priced, amazing quality, and just overall delicious. I come here weekly. It's a must!!

Yelp
Brought my friends from SoCal here and now they're all hooked! Honestly blew their minds. My fav is the red bean mochi 25% sweetness (could even try 0%) , second best is the strawberry, and mango third!

Yelp
Finally tried Komeya no Bento after having it on my list forever, caved in today and it did not disappoint. Tip: definitely order ahead if you can. When we got there, the line was long, and we weren't really sure where the pickup line was, so we just squeezed our way to the front and hoped for the best. They actually have a system, but it was just too crowded inside to figure out. Got the salmon flakes bento and the salmon in truffle soy bento, plus an iced matcha latte, and took everything for a little picnic nearby. The salmon in truffle soy was rich and flavorful, though the rice portion felt a bit much for that one. On the flip side, the salmon flakes bento could've used more rice to balance out the flakes. Still tasty overall. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
MAY 2025 a 5:30pm on Saturday: 20 people line, most people in line ordered just drinks. If you do not want to wait in line, order through their Square website. My first time here and I was excited to try the food, but it was pricey, $35 after tip. Salmon in truffle oil ($21.50) and strawberry with Matcha cream ($7.50) The yuzu was noticeable and tasted great. I wish the salmon cuts were larger, but the pieces tasted fresh. Great variety of veggies, but again, a bit expensive. Matcha was smooth, super yummy, not too sweet. Although the space is tiny, my friend and I were able to sit down in the restaurant and eat.

Yelp
O V E R A L L High quality healthy bento option for picnic purposes ~ O R D E R Salmon in Truffle Soy - 5/5 you cannot go wrong with this choice!!! O T H E R Parking is ass so you're better off pre ordering online and drive by for someone to be dropped off to run in and grab the order. There are 2 small small tables and benches but you're better off finding elsewhere to eat.

Yelp
Komeya No Bento is a tiny storefront that serves some big flavors. It's a perfect spot to grab some food to go for a picnic at the nearby Fort Mason Park. However, their lines can grow quite long. So be prepared for a long wait. I had their Truffly Soy Salmon Bento alongside a Strawberry Milk Matcha Foam, and while I was impressed by the taste, the prices were a tad bit high. Strawberry Milk Matcha Foam: I don't claim to be a Matcha connoisseur (I'm more of a coffee-lover), but this is a well-craftes drink. The strawberry adds the perfect amount of sweetness and fruitiness to balance the grassy notes of the matcha. The foam makes the drink incredibly smooth and satisfying to drink. A truly refreshing beverage perfect for a warm day. Truffle Soy Salmon Bento: While the steep price of this box is technically justified by the inclusion of truffle oil, I didn't find the oil necessary. The earthy tones of the truffle oil were to subtle for me to notice, and didn't enhance the salmon in any meaningful way. The salmon itself was wonderfully fatty and meaty. I also found issue with the side dishes. While I appreciated the variety, I found them all to be lacking in one way or another.

Yelp
Located right off of Lombard St around the corner on Laguna is Komeya No Bento. It's obvious to me that the proprietors spent a bit of time studying and executing much of the contemporary Japanese aesthetic in the signage and graphics evident in this establishment. But since we already had lunch (boo!) we only had room left for drinks.. grr.. Order up on the screen, and they'll yell out your name. Efficient service, a little hurried but still courteous considering how packed this place is.. My drink order today was the... Mango Milk with Matcha (10/10) I usually get a Strawberry Matcha at other places, so I thought this would be a nice change of pace. Indeed it was! Mango pureed on the bottom, milk in the middle and Matcha foam on top. That first sip of the bottom was a total delight! And the whole concoction is still Quite tasty even after you mix up the three layers of ingredients! You can't adjust the level of sugar in this one, but Mangoes by nature are very sweet to begin with. Overall the sweetness was just right for a mango-infused matcha treat. Getting here: Parking can be challenging around here but not impossible. Lots of Muni buses on Lombard. Verdict: Highly Recommended! I'll definitely be back to try their salmon and other bento selections, and for another round of the Mango Milk with Matcha Foam! Can't wait!

Yelp
Finally tried out Komeya after all the hype around SF tiktok! The place itself is super tiny, there's a bit of seating but not much. I was here on a saturday afternoon and the line was out the door, but moved fairly fast. I ordered the strawberry matcha -- it was so yummy. The matcha was so creamy and rich, the strawberry puree was fresh and honestly this tasted like a strawberry matcha dessert. The drink was indulgent and filling. This is on me, but I didn't realize that this was just matcha foam on top so that did throw me off a bit (was expecting more of a matcha latte), but regardless it was delicious!

Yelp
Komeya no Bento has been on my list but I'm rarely in SF, so I grabbed at this chance when I was going to be nearby for a concert at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre! I ordered online for pickup around ~6pm and when I arrived, the small shop was busy inside with everyone seeming to be waiting for their orders. I tried the Salmon in Truffle Soy Obento, and I thought the obento was really nice. I'm glad the rice wasn't warm, so it didn't affect the raw salmon. The rice itself was cooked well, but there was a lot of it. The salmon paired nicely with the truffle oil and yuzu soy, and gave it enough flavor that I didn't even need the soy sauce packet provided. The sides were all great, but my favorite was the Brussels sprouts - super flavorful and roasted with what seemed to be bonito flakes? I also tried the Strawberry Milk Matcha Foam with oatmilk. The matcha flavor was subtle, with the strawberry and oatmilk standing out a bit more. I can't pinpoint exactly what I was tasting - I think it was the oatmilk that was adding a nutty taste but also slightly coconut-like? I still enjoyed it quite a bit either way!

Yelp
Komeya No Bento almost reminds me one of those little shops you randomly find in Tokyo, when walking around a residential area - cause it's just like that in the Marina! Residential or street parking. I finally had the opportunity to try this while going in between to one of our offsite events. Picked some up for a colleague and I, but we ended up getting caught eating bento's instead of the supposed pizza in the parking lot by my boss (lol oops). Limited menu with salmon sashimi bento, chicken katsu bento, duck bento, chicken chasu bento, some ochazuke, and matchas - best matcha in SF!! Got the Salmon in Truffle Soy bento and it was sooo good. The truffle wasn't overwhelming, but you definitely taste the flavor and the sashimi tasted very fresh. The rice was cooked nicely as well and complimented the sashimi well. The bento came with a piece of corn riblet, potato salad, cucumbers, brussel sprouts, and a fried sweet potato(?). Everything was so good! Too bad I had to stop eating to go to our offsite - CK only got to enjoy my scraps when I got home lol. My co workers enjoyed their Katsu and said it was very good. I'm hoping to try it next time! The matcha lattes here are top tier and probably the best I've had in SF. Very creamy and good. Doesn't taste bitter or powdery. I got the mango milk matcha foam w/ oakmilk and I've also tried the strawberry milk matcha foam w/ oatmilk. When I had the strawberry milk matcha, I didn't find it as good as the first time I had it with the mango milk matcha. I think it's because the mango matcha had a sipper lid and the strawberry milk matcha had a straw-lid. I think it's better to sip it because the creamy matcha foam was chef's kiss. I'm still thinking about it to this day. Definitely a must try! Limited evening hours, but I always recommend ordering ahead on their website and picking up at the kiosk up front cause lines are always out the door when I come.

Yelp
The food is nice and comforting. We got truffle soy bento and then bring it to a park and have our matcha with the bentos is such a great vibe. The salmon always hits and the sides are always homey with good balance with veggies. The matchas are a good balance between thick and tea which doesn't make it taste too watered down yet still have that thickness texture to make it feel like a dessert but not too thick where it gets unbearable.

Yelp
Love the red bean + mochi matcha latte! The strong matcha flavor comes through well and I get it at 50% (maybe could have gone lower). Service was super friendly even with how busy it was. Recommend doing a preorder or pickup to hopefully avoid the. That being said service does take some time with how busy it is and overall the shop is small so it was a bit packed in the store. You'll probably have better luck coming right as they open or on a weekday (versus a Saturday).

Yelp
Omg this matcha is so SOOOO yummy. Probably my favorite that I've tried so far in the city. It was a little busy when we arrived, but the line moved fast and our drinks came out in 5 min. The strawberry matcha is soooo good and creamy, not too sweet. I wanna drink this every single day omg.

Yelp
I've heard so many good things about Komeya, so I'm curious what went wrong during my visit. I stopped by on a busy Saturday afternoon, waited in line for about 30 minutes and got my drink and bento 10-15 min later. My group of 8 got a mix of different drinks--original matcha latte, matcha red bean, matcha mango--but most of us got the same truffle salmon bento. All the matcha lattes tasted drastically different, some were watery, others had too much dairy or not enough matcha. It was a mess across the board. Personally, my drink was a beautiful shade of green but did not have a strong matcha flavor and it was disappointing given how much it was hyped up. For the bento, the flavor was there. Don't get me wrong it was delicious, but again there were so many inconsistencies. Some people were given two pieces of corn, others one. The most upsetting thing was realizing that my portion of fish was HALF the size of my friends. It's hard to justify going back when I don't know what kind of quality or portions to expect.

Yelp
We got the matcha cream mango drink and classic matcha latte so don't have any thoughts on their bentos yet! 5/5 Mango fresh milk with matcha cream tasted like a dessert! For some reason it just tasted a bit coconut-y and pretty sweet. The matcha cream went so well with the macerated mango and it was definitely filling! They premake all the ingredients for this and went really nicely with oat milk. 3/5 Matcha latte on the other hand was pretty mid flavor wise and saw them using an electric whisk but that's understandable since the line was quite long. They use Marukyu Koyamaen for their matcha! Maybe I'm biased since I also own the same matcha brand/probably different strand.....my homemade latte low key taste better. It seems like a lot of people order ahead and that would be my tip since wait times are very long on the weekends! Ambiance is cute tight cafe but will be lacking since there's just a crazy amount of people all around waiting so it's a bit chaotic. Ordering is on a kiosk which could be nice if ur feeling anti social. Drinks 4/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambiance 3.5/5 Value 4/5

Yelp
OMG OMG OMG I am obsessed with their matchas and bento boxes!! This place is definitely worth the hype. Fav matcha place in SF They do order pick up if you don't want to wait in line since they do tend to get quite long (especially on the weekends) but there isn't really too much of a wait if you go during the week. Their stuff is high quality and very consistent. Not much space for indoor dining which is the only con. Hope they can get a bigger spot one day to accommodate indoor dining/coworking space. Otherwise, this place is such a gem!!

Yelp
I tried the chicken chashu obento this time and it was absolutely amazing. The chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful, with a savory glaze that paired beautifully with the rice and sides. Every component felt carefully prepared and thoughtfully balanced, turning a simple lunch into something special. My colleagues and I still order from Komeya regularly for lunch, and it continues to be one of our favorite spots. No matter how many times we order, the food is always ready on time, beautifully packed, and consistently high in quality. You can really tell that everything is made with care and attention to detail. The flavors are always spot on--clean, bold, and well-balanced. The presentation is elegant without being overdone, and it's clear that a lot of pride goes into each bento. I still think about the Salmon in Truffle Soy Obento, which is just as unforgettable as the first time I tried it. The roasted corn and potato salad are still must-haves too, adding that perfect mix of freshness and comfort on the side. Even when it's busy, the staff are friendly and composed, and the space has a calming, welcoming energy that makes every visit feel personal. Komeya continues to be a standout to me and I will always be thinking about the next time I come for lunch!

Yelp
I've gotten food and drinks here several times. Each experience improved from the next, and I'm eager to come back for another bento box! Here are my ratings: truffle salmon bento, 9.5/10 - I wish I could eat this every day! The salmon is great quality but the side dishes really pull everything together. my favorite is the bean sprouts, and i love eating everything with the ample portion of wasabi they give. strawberry matcha, 8/10 - so so yummy but also not much different from other strawberry matcha i've had. satisfied with it! i like to go get food here and go to any nearby grass to sit down and have a quick picnic. The last time i came here i felt that service was relatively fast, but the first time i came here last september/october it took maybe an hour or two hours.. I had ordered ahead of time too but it seems that they fixed their work flow and improved service speeds! the inside is small with an okay amount of places to sit and wait for your food. there are tables but it gets so busy i don't think anyone dares to eat their food inside haha will be back soon to the cutest bento box place in sf

Yelp
The best matcha in SF! I love the vibes of this place. And although the wait is a bit long, i definitely think the drinks are worth it. The matcha is more on the sweeter side. You could also order it on Uber Eats to avoid waiting in the line.

Yelp
TLDR: Keep this place a secret. Best matcha and bentos in the city. Be prepared for a 30-45 min (worthwhile) wait on the weekends. Very limited indoor seating, so would walk down to the Marina Greens to enjoy your bento and drinks. Whenever I run out of weekend brunch ideas, my default is making the trek to Komeya no Bento. Drinks: Mango Milk Matcha Foam (10/10) - matcha cream top with creamy matcha latte with puréed mango. Most matcha places in the city either make their matcha taste too grassy or too milky. They make their drink just right and the matcha has the perfect consistency (not too watery). Matcha Latte (8/10) - you can taste the good matcha quality, but a little grassy for my liking Bentos: Salmon in Truffle Soy Obento (10/10) - salmon melts in your mouth and the truffle sauce isn't too overpowering. Tasty sides! Duck Breast Obento (10/10) - duck was extremely tender and didn't have the typical gamey aftertaste. Duck was seasoned perfectly and the shichimi/sansho pepper gave it that extra kick!

Yelp
Cute packaging, tasty food, good variety, fresh + high quality - are the words I'd use to summarize Komeya No Bento My friends were visiting from out of town and we decided to get some bentos delivered for lunch while we were working. The truffle salmon bento is insanely good. I'm already planning on ordering it again. You can tell everything is assembled which such care and attentiveness. There's also such a great variety of side dishes in the boxes! You've got corn, potato salad, some pickles, bean sprouts, cherry tomatoes, and brussels sprouts - all really good! The chicken katsu is also so crispy and meaty with great flavor. I'm already looking forward to ordering it again and would love to give the duck bento a try next time!

Yelp
So glad my other lunch plan didn't work out so we ended up picking up some bento for our picnic at Crissy Field from Komeya and I couldn't be happier! Bonus since this is so close to Crissy Field as well. I got the salmon truffle bento and everything about it was to die for. The rice is so soft and perfectly chewy. My friend got the chicken katsu bento and she thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it as well. We already had drinks before coming so I skipped on the matcha but looked like every one there got a matcha with their meal and I was kind of sad I missed out. It was so good I went back after our picnic to pick up a chicken katsu obento for my bf for dinner and the seasonal hotaru ika sumiso since it sold out during lunch time. I would note that the squid was not what I had imagined. They are a loooot smaller than expected. Although the seasoning was good but I wouldn't get again Definitely will be back to try their matcha and other bentos

Yelp
Best matcha i've ever had! Do you see that microfoam?! Small spot that was crowded. Definitely worth the visit

Yelp
I've been curious about this place but it's very far from me so I'm glad I had a chance to try it! It's a very small shop and there's a kiosk at the front where you can order food/drinks. There's also some seating where you can wait for your food/drinks and also two small tables where you can eat, but it seems more like a place where you just pick up your food and take it elsewhere. I got the chicken katsu bento and I enjoyed all the sides and also the katsu. I didn't have a chance to eat it right away but everything is still very good! There was a variety of sides, including potato salad, a bit of brussel sprouts, seasoned bean sprouts, a piece of corn rib and cabbage salad. The food took some time but was well worth it. There was only one worker manning the whole thing too I think!

Yelp
Komeya's been on my want-to-go list for a while mainly because of their odd hours. If they were open on Sundays, I would've tried them long before now, but at least I finally got around to it. My friend and I stopped by and joined the queue outside during our hangout in the Marina over the weekend. We both got the strawberry fresh milk with matcha foam. It was reminiscent of a strawberry matcha latte with cheese foam. Overall pretty tasty, but I would've rather had a classic strawberry matcha latte without the matcha foam. However, it unfortunately wasn't an option on the menu.

Yelp
Ordered online to avoid waiting and it was ready for pick up by the time we got there! We tried the Salmon in Truffle Soy, the Chicken Karaage, and the Strawberry Milk with Matcha Foam. The salmon was fresh but the plate itself tasted a bit bland and the chicken karaage was good with the sauce it came with. However, some of our sides didn't as taste fresh, and had a mushy texture, like they were going bad. The strawberry matcha was really good and reminded us of strawberry haagen daz ice cream. As for presentation, it looked great and was perfect for a picnic and pictures. I don't think I would get the bentos again unless my other friends wanted to try them but I'd definitely come back to try their other drinks!

Yelp
Placed a pickup order on a Saturday around 2pm and i HIGHLY recommend ordering online. The line was out the door and around the corner. The strawberry matcha is super yummy and not too sweet with the regular sweetness! Service is fast for being super busy. It's a small shop with very limited seating.

Yelp
Came here for a Saturday lunch with a friend. We ended waiting 1+ hour for our food, seems like they lost our order? Aside from customer service/wait time. I thought the food was not bad, a solid 8/10. The fish tasted fresh and the Brussels sprouts and corn was pretty tasty. Rice was cold, but not hard. I probably would order ahead, or come on a less busy day if I were to come back. Felt pretty frustrating and (slightly) hangry from the wait, and there was no compensation for going over double the estimated time we were given upon placing the order.

Yelp
These bentos and matcha drinks were a perfect choice for our picnic! We ordered ahead online (20 mins) before picking up the bentos, we still had to wait a bit until we finally got our order. I would highly recommend this as the line is super long and they seem to always be busy. We ordered the salmon truffle soy bentos, some with ikura as an add on. The bento looks large but it seems to be filled with a lot of sushi rice. The rice was good but the ratio to fish was its downfall. If the salmon pieces were bigger I would give them five stars. Nevertheless, the salmon was fresh and you can taste a slight hint of the truffle. It comes with some sides such as: bean sprouts, ginger, wasabi, pickled cucumbers, potato salad, corn, and roasted sweet potato. The sides were all sweet so it would be nice if they incorporated some more savory or acidic elements. Overall, still tasty and enjoyable! The matcha lattes were great. The matcha content was pretty strong, the drink was creamy and wasn't overly sweet. Overall, Komeya was good and would be a good option if you can get food/drinks to go conveniently. But i wouldn't go out of my way to try it.

Yelp
So good!! Worth the hype it's getting on social. We ordered the salmon soy truffle, salmon flake and salmon Ikura ochazuke (favorite of the group!) fish is fresh and portion is decent for overall bento. Also want to try their matcha. Order when it opens at 5pm for dinner, the line gets huge.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday for lunch after seeing it all over tiktok / Instagram! I'd say it's more of a to-go spot than a typical dine-in restaurant due to its limited space. We waited for about 20 minutes for our food after ordering through the kiosk and although there are 2-3 benches to sit in the waiting area, there weren't any tables. We came at noon, but many of the more popular items were already sold out which was a bummer :( I ended up getting the bento with a duck drumstick and it was delicious. The duck meat was juicy and tender with thick chewy skin. It was on the saltier side but balanced with the rice and other side dishes (corn, brussel sprouts, and potato salad) made it very enjoyable. The only thing I would say is that it was on the pricier side, about $21 for a small bento. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a balanced meal with lots of menu variety, however, you may have to take it home or find some place nearby to eat!

Yelp
I took the trip to sf with a friend as she recommended this place to me. We ordered an iced matcha latte and the salmon truffle soy bento box. The matcha had a strong flavor and I ordered 25% sweetness and it wasn't too sweet. The salmon was tender and the wasabi added a nice kick to it. There were side included such as been sprouts, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, mashed potatoes, corn, and brussel sprouts. The wait time was around 15 minutes and the inside has minimal seating so I wouldn't bet on getting a spot. The wait time was likely shorter because we went on a weekday during lunchtime. They do have a few decorations around the counter but otherwise a very minimalist location. Ordering is through a touchscreen butt he staff were very attentive in making sure we had utensils on our order to go.

Yelp
Cute little hole in the wall Japanese bento place in SF in a residential neighborhood. Parking can be a challenge so give yourself enough time if driving. The bento boxes are so cute and the fish is really fresh. I didn't find the slices to be too thin and the truffle seasoning was deliciously savory with fluffy white rice. Service was easy as you order on a screen. There are two high top tables on the side for seating so most people just get take out. The strawberry matcha was really tasty and fresh. Would come back just for this. Nice new spot in SF!
