The 25 Best Maui Restaurants, According to a Local Expert | Eater

"The retro-futuristic ambiance of the Four Seasons’ new sushi bar harkens back to the 1930s, when the luxury steamship Lurline sailed between the Hawaiian Islands. Sleek curves, amber lighting, and an enormous fountain set the stage for immaculately prepared sushi. Chef Kiyo Ikeda stands at the helm here, delicately spooning caviar atop Hokkaido scallops and bluefin toro, or grating fresh wasabi root for his reverent audience at the bar. The drink menu includes a shiso-scented margarita and junmai daiginjo exclusive to the resort. The desserts are edible elegance; open up the Jewel Box to reveal a miniature matcha raspberry roulade, strawberry sake cheesecake, yuzu tart, and chocolate torte. If that weren’t precious enough, you’ll receive a daruma doll, a symbol of good fortune, as a keepsake of the evening. Must-try dish: Call the concierge or check @fsmaui for special offerings such as dim sum flown in from O‘ahu’s Chinatown." - Shannon Wianecki

As a hospitality veteran, I was in awe of this majestic Four Seasons Restaurant. The atmosphere and service were spectacular. The food was quite good too- Excellent quality, presentation and good preparation. I think that the menu could be a smidge more varied (maybe I’m just conditioned to large menus at sushi places though). The tasting menus should probably be printed or spieled upon request (I forgot to ask our server about the tasting menus, which is my bad). The mocktail I had was a lavender, shiso and soda. It was a bit too sour for me. I thought it needed some sweetness for balance 🤷🏼‍♂️. Overall I give this place high marks. I really can’t stress enough how great the staff is. They really made our first night here at the four seasons special. Thank you all for that

I can confidently say Komo is our top choice for the best authentic sushi on the island. They opened in December, 2024 and it is one of the greatest additions to the hotel in recent years. The restaurant is located inside the main lobby at the Four Seasons Maui. Other reviewers have commented on the price and bland flavour. Komo offers authentic Japanese style sushi, not the “North American” style that uses mayonnaise/ sweet/ spicy sauce on the dishes. As for the price, they’re definitely on the higher end but I believe the food, service and ambience more than make up for it in my opinion. Everything on the island is expensive, let alone Four Seasons establishments. The closest authentic Japanese sushi I can compare Komo to is Koiso in Kihei, which used be our go-to spot over the years, which is no longer the case. My wife and I last visited Komo in August, 2025 to celebrate our anniversary during our stay. As always, we sat at the bar in front of Chef Kiyo and watched his mastery unfold. The restaurant exudes a stunning atmosphere with an incredible vibe that jives well with the newly transformed lobby lounge. It is simply beautiful. What sets Komo apart from other restaurants, including other hotel restaurants within the resort (*cough cough*), is its unrivalled service from staff. They truly make you feel special and attend to your needs from the moment you walk in until you leave, whether you are a hotel guest or not. Chef Kiyo is a very talented chef who also happens to carry great humor and I love watching him work. My wife and I interacted with him the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with much laughter. The food is simply exceptional. My family and I eat sushi 2-3 times a week and have a pretty good understanding of sushi. The fish is FRESH! It is aged perfectly (3 days if I’m not mistaken) to bring out the perfect balance of sweetness and great texture. The rice is also very good - not too sticky and has just the right amount of starch to bind the grains together. It has the appearance of brown rice but it is in fact white rice that has been marinated/ mixed in 5 different Mirin. It is a special rice imported from Hokkaido, Japan and there are very few places around the world that are able to import this special rice. Sushi is an art form comprised of only 2 ingredients (well, 4 if you count wasabi and soy sauce) and both have to be perfect to make great sushi. The table side fresh wasabi is a huge bonus and tastes amazing. The soy sauce is light and has a hint of sweetness which compliments the sushi really well. I don’t like the typical salty/ heavy soy sauce that most Japanese restaurants use. A special, complimentary cold green tea they serve has a sweet tone and is served as a pallet cleanser. The appetizers and other food options on the menu are also great with stunning presentation. I will definitely return and plan to try everything on the menu eventually. Highly recommend!

Komo made our night truly unforgettable. The sushi was beyond exceptional—fresh, creative, and beautifully presented—but what really stood out was the service. A special shoutout to Brianna, who gave us excellent customer service and made us feel completely taken care of. And we’re so grateful to the team member who took us outside to capture a photo at sunset. That thoughtful gesture turned a great dinner into a memory we’ll always treasure. The combination of world-class food, warm service, and a picture-perfect Maui sunset made Komo a highlight of our trip. We can’t wait to return.

Dining at KOMO by Kiyokuni Ikeda was an unforgettable experience. Every dish was a masterpiece, blending impeccable flavors with stunning presentation. Our waitress, Jessica, was absolutely amazing — so attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Her thoughtful suggestions elevated our meal and made the whole evening even more special. The attention to detail and dedication to quality were evident in every bite. Chef Ikeda’s passion for his craft shines through — this is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an exceptional culinary journey.

Disappointing. The service was nice but the portion sizes vs the pricing was a bit of a joke. Fish quality was very good but overall the food lacked flavour. We left and went elsewhere. Not worth it in my opinion.

REALLY TRADITIONAL Japanese restaurant, if you don’t like or are not used to, I don’t recommend. Super fresh and good food.

Google
By FAR the best sushi on island! Fish is incredibly fresh, vibrant and delicately flavored. With this high end product you do not need any shoyu, or sauces. It’s good on its own. We left feeling amazing due to the quality, I will absolutely be visiting Komo again and recommend to anyone who enjoys fine dining or a sexy date night! 10/10

Move over Nobu, The Four Seasons has opened what I believe to be the best Japanese restaurant in Wailea with THE BEST restaurant manager named Louis. Also, the best staff ALL AROUND. Last week, we vacationed at The Four Seasons (White Lotus) in Maui. Prior to arriving, I had made reservations to Nobu at the Grand Wailea not knowing that The Four Seasons had recently opened Komo. I was a little suspicious about Nobu, so the day before, we walked over to check out the restaurant. After looking at Nobu, I immediately cancelled the reservation and made it for Komo instead. I was absolutely correct in my decision. I felt like I was transported to Japan. The restaurant is brand new and it’s decorated so beautifully. Let me start off with the service, the manager actually walked us over to the veranda to take a picture of our family at sunset. That was so kind of him. Then when we came back, the waitress was so kind to us. I think her name is Briana. But if I’m wrong, I’m so sorry but she was so wonderful. Right from the start I knew the night was going to go well. They started us off with a wonderful honey tea. Then as we looked at the menu, I also knew this was a very authentic and upscale restaurant with an amazing chef. Of course, if you’re going to have sushi, you’re going to have to order the fresh wasabi. In my experience, most restaurants don’t even offer it unless it’s a very upscale sushi restaurant. Then as you peruse the menu, you can see that the selections are amazing. I can go on and on, but I think my photos that I’ve attached speaks for itself. If you can get a reservation here at Komo, you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait to go back to the Four Seasons Maui just to go to Komo. I think they’re going to do very well if the quality and service stays this high. A++++++

Yelp
Komo was one of the highlights of our Maui trip. Komo is a masterclass in precision and creativity. Fresh, beautifully presented, and, in my view, even better than Nobu at Grand Wailea (everything is better next door, from the sushi to the service and the finishing touches. Every detail felt intentional, from the craft in each dish to the warmth of the service. The sushi was outstanding: fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, but what really set the experience apart was the service. Brianna was fantastic; her customer service was excellent, and she made us feel so well cared for the entire evening. What truly made the night unforgettable, though, was when a staff member guided us outside to take a photo during the beautiful Maui sunset. That thoughtful gesture turned a special dinner into a memory we'll always treasure. Between the world-class food, the warm hospitality, and the stunning views, Komo delivered an experience we'll never forget. Thank you so much! We will be back! Tammy and Brian.

Yelp
I'm giving a 3 but I really wish I could give the place a 3.5. Gorgeous venue, very helpful staff, as someone that enjoys sushi, we just couldn't justify the price of the sushi. Very simple rolls for $20+. We were really disappointed that the flavor wasn't outstanding and ate quite a bit of ginger and soy sauce just to get more flavor out of our experience. You don't go to Komo to get full, you definitely go for the vibes and photos. However, we heavily enjoyed the tea it came with and the cocktails. We'd come back JUST for the cocktails and get food somewhere else. Not for us or the locals I guess ‍

Yelp
Best uni here on the island of Maui. So creamy and long lasting! The atmosphere was very beautiful and a bit classy. The hostess/greeter was amazing, she was dressed so formal and very welcoming. Kenji was our waiter and he was amazing! So attentive , and educated us on what is the vision of Komo. I can't wait to go back to try their other foods on their menu.

Yelp
New option at FSMaui. Nice complement to Spago, Duo, Ferraro, and the lobby bar. Food - We had an amazing selection of nigiri, a roll, and dessert. The highlight was a surprise complementary piece of black throated seaperch (they included as this is our wedding anniversary). I splurged on the fresh wasabi... absolutely worth it. Drink - We had amazing cocktails. The complementary roasted tea was very nice as well. Service - Kenji and the whole team did a fantastic job. Top notch service from start to finish. Ambiance - Delightful. We sat next to the fountain, which provided a wonderful white noise.

Yelp
What a beautiful location and great service but may be the worst and the most boring sushi I've ever had in my life. I think you should take some lessons from some of the locals in the surrounding area and spice this place up when you can't even make an edamame interesting it's time to start over and re think what one is doing here . There was some tea that was given to us. That was only highlight of our very expensive dinner that left me feeling like I didn't even eat a meal sorry but something is this boring and plain. I think somebody has to be honest here.

Yelp
We enjoyed Komo so much that we went twice! This was the best meal we had on our trip. Gorgeous decor, excellent (and friendly) service, and most importantly, delicious food. Beautiful presentation and high quality fish. Highly recommend! Pro tip: Get a drink at the lobby bar before or after dinner to enjoy the sunset!

Yelp
Unforgettable dinner at Komo. Komo isn't just good -- it's next-level. The fish is insanely fresh, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. The sushi was melt-in-your-mouth amazing, and the omakase tasting took me on a flavor journey I won't forget. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was sleek and inviting. If you're a sushi lover, Komo is a must-visit. It's worth every bite! Don't forget about desert. Amazing flavors. The dinner and drinks are an experience!

Yelp
Gorgeous and different. Wasn't sure how it was going to work in the spot in the lobby but it does.
