Konbi - Review - Culver City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Much like the original lunch counter in Echo Park, this second location of Konbi on the ground floor of a gigantic office building in Culver City offers Japanese-style cafe snacks that are worth making a special trip for. Their signature sandwiches filled things with pork katsu or egg salad taste a little too close to convenience store level these days considering their price (didn’t the milk bread used to be softer?), but the good news is Konbi delivers elsewhere. We're big fans of the exceptional pastries, seasonal salads, and silky housemade ice creams—which come in fancy flavors like roasted green tea and golden raspberry." - Garrett Snyder

Konbi Is Shuttering Its Original Echo Park Location — For Now - Eater LA

"Konbi, the Japanese sandwich shop known for its Insta-famous egg salad and pork katsu sandwiches, is closing its original Echo Park location on October 2, the restaurant’s fourth birthday. The owners announced that the current iteration will end, but they plan to re-open with a new dine-in menu in the coming months. The new Culver City location will continue to operate daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting October 3." - Karen Palmer

Inside Konbi Culver City, LA’s Favorite Sandwich Restaurant’s Expansion - Eater LA

"Konbi is officially slinging its signature konbini-style Japanese sandwiches and French pastries at the massive, 395,000-square-foot One Culver office-and-retail building in the middle of Culver City. The new location serves as a commissary, with all production, including its pastry program, being run out of the restaurant’s more spacious kitchen and prep areas. The menu includes original tri-cut sandwiches, a new tuna sandwich, and an upcoming TLC sandwich. Additionally, Konbi Culver City offers gelato-style ice cream and pastries, including a new ham-and-cheese croissant sandwich. The location features more Kettl teas and pour-over options but does not serve espresso drinks." - Karen Palmer

Cool location with outdoor seating. The coffee was really nicely done, very smooth and balanced. They make the bread fresh for all items. The staff is very friendly. Plenty of street parking. Sandwiches were cooked to order as we waited, fresh and tasty. Recommended.

I think this place is waay to overrated. Not that big of a brunch and it costed us (2 people) $65. They add a 20% tip as soon as you order so you dont even know what you’re tipping for. Specialties lattes not that special and we waited like 10 minutes for them. We tried the Pate a choux which I thought was better than the katsu 🙈. (8 out of 10) As you can see in the picture they charge you $15 for the katsu and they dont even bother to fill up the bread all the way with pork. I also asked if I could try the pistacchio ice cream and they dont give out samples (first time I’ve ever heard that in an “ice cream shop”. Wont be coming back anytime soon.

They are way overpriced. These two small sandwiches should not be 33 dollars. Their egg salad is not even those fine Japanese kind. You can get better ones for less than half at Mitsuwa market or any Japanese supermarkets. Pork katsu sandwich was just salty and lack of flavor. Their bread is not soft as it should be. I don’t like these places that use asian name and make whatever they want. Their name is konbi is is from konbini (convenient store in japan). The funny thing is you can get amazing sandwiches for less than 4 dollars in Japan at those Konbini. So their name and the price/ quality don’t even match. What a waste of money.

Pitachio ice cream is really good here! Definitely try all of the flavors with an interesting texture like the Yuzu with candied yuzu peels and the Hōjicha with caramelized milk bread.

Must stop at this delicious bakery in the heart of Culver City. We ordered a few pastries for our clients that were a hit. Thank you for the great customer service and yummy treats

Great teas, sandwiches, and salads. The egg sandwich is most similar to the famous Japanese ones! Staff is very friendly and fast.

Konbi is definitely worth a visit but it's up to you (and your wallet) whether you want to be a regular there. They opened at 9am, instead of the 8am mentioned on google, to a line of more than 30 patrons. The kitchen and the system inside is quite organized though. Some menu items were not available during the 'soft opening' but they anticipate to have everything soon. Food wise, the egg salad sandwich is really good, but well, it's a sandwich, so there's an inherent limitation to how amazing it can be. The omelet sandwich is pretty good too but not as good as the egg sandwich. The eggplant katsu is interesting with some umami flavors going on. The butter croissant was the best I've had so far in LA, easily comparable with the bakeries in Paris. I felt the flavored croissants took a little away from the pure flavors of the croissant. The prices are reasonable, but when you add the 20% surcharge it does work out to be quite steep. Expect to pay $20-30 per person for what is a light breakfast. You'd be better off getting coffee from the coffee shop next door (go get em tiger)

Outstanding. I tried the pork katsu sandwich. It was genuinely phenomenal. The meat was perfectly juicy, the fat was rendered beautifully and the katsu coating was deliciously crispy. Yes, it’s not a cheap sandwich. Yes it took ten minutes to prepare (that’s great, it means they’re making it fresh). Yes there is a mandatory 20% service fee. I’m not sure why some reviews are making that into a big deal. Think of it as no service charge and the food costs little more if you prefer. Whichever way you look at it though, my sandwich was amazing and I will be going back again and again.
