The Best Chicago Restaurants and Bars Near Wrigley Field | Eater Chicago

"Konbini and Kanpai is a popular liquor store with a focus on sake that opened a second location in 2024, taking over a beloved Wrigleyville bar. They still sling alcohol, leaning into Wrigleyville’s Japanese roots, and serve a fine selection of sakes and other beverages. There’s also a small selection of bites — pork katsu and egg salad sandos, cold and hot noodles, and more. This is an underrated spot in the area with a unique menu and seating." - Ashok Selvam

A Preview of Chicago’s Most Anticipated Restaurants for Spring 2024 | Eater Chicago

"An expanded Japanese-American bottle shop and eatery with a full kitchen, the new neighborhood outpost will offer nisei-influenced casual dishes (egg-salad sandwiches on milk bread, udon bowls) alongside a refreshed lineup of Asian spirits, beers, and cocktails—expect creative pours such as a sake-based Old Fashioned with ginger syrup and barley shochu—aiming for an April or May opening." - Ashok Selvam

Konbini & Kanpai, a Japanese American Bottle Ship, Is Expanding to Wrigleyville | Eater Chicago

"A new outpost of a Japanese American bottle shop founded in Lakeview occupies the former Dark Horse Tap and expands the original concept with a full kitchen and a slightly larger footprint. The menu—developed by a chef who ran a pan-Asian food truck—features nostalgic, konbini-inspired dishes such as udon, egg salad sandos on milk bread, bento boxes, and other grab-and-go items, while the beverage program will spotlight a distinct lineup of sakes, shochu, and Japanese canned beers alongside cocktails that riff on Belmont favorites (for example, a sake-based Old Fashioned with ginger simple syrup and barley shochu paired with Filipino cappuccino rum). Housed in a minimalist space designed to host Asian American pop-ups and community events, it can seat more than 70 between indoor seating and an outdoor beer garden, and the project carries personal significance for its founders—a return to a location tied to their family’s hospitality history." - Naomi Waxman

Google
took me a while to venture out here after it opened (been going to Konbini & Kanpai on Belmont for years and love it so much) — but so glad i finally made it in! lovely owners, nice space, the bar is really pretty, and most importantly the food and drinks were great. Chicago has had a huge gap in non-sushi Japanese food and glad to see this add to the mix. the sando, katsu, and appetizers were excellent and the sake and cocktail companions were great! and don’t sleep on the Japanese flan — as a pretty serious connoisseur of flans, this was a winner! looking forward to the next stop in.

Wow I'll definitely be back! My partner got a couple beers, while I got a plum soda - both were awesome! We also shared japanese flan and an egg salad sando, and both were wonderful! The atmosphere is super chill and the staff is very friendly. I'm SO glad this place is in the neighborhood!

Google
Delicious food, refreshing drinks and friendly staff in a welcoming atmosphere. The chicken and the pork on the sandwiches were each tender, juicy and flavorful! Portions are perfect and prices are reasonable. They even have a nice patio for warmer weather!

Google
Love Konbini and Kampai Wrigley!! Delicious food! Great hospitality! Yummy Asian inspired cocktails and beer. My husband had the yuzu lager and I had some sake from Hiroshima. It was delicious.

Google
Amazing dishes and excellent service. Small seating area. Also, a small wall of snacks and treats, as well as, pick your own beverages Street parking is as easy to find.

Google
Food amazing, drinks so good, patio immaculate vibes! Such a gem of a place that doesn’t get more hype! Love this place and will be back!

Google
Love this place! Have been visiting their other location in Lakeview since they opened and couldn’t wait to try the new spot and the food. Can’t recommend enough, especially for the patio which has a cool view of the red line going by (if you’re a train nerd).

Google
Excellent food and drinks. The prices were very fair as well. We had the chicken teriyaki, crab Rangoon dip, cucumbers, a bao and of course had to get the flan. All very great…Will be returning soon!

Yelp
Really amazing food! As a vegetarian sometimes I struggle to find a variety of good options in the area. However, there were a lot of great options here and everything I had was phenomenal! My favorite was the tofu BAO. Definitely will be coming back here often!

Yelp
Was really excited to check out this establishment and see what they had to offer. Would love to return and actually try the sake they have to offer. A ton of alcohol selection, food made to order and minimal snacks. They have seating inside and a really nice covered and heated patio in the back. Such a fun vibe and it would be cool to grab drinks here before going out! I ordered a can of regular green tea that said $2.25 on the fridge, but for some reason they charged $3.60 when I paid for it? I asked why and it was something about drinking my non alcoholic beverage outside on their patio would be an additional charge? Way too overpriced for a can of regular green tea so I did not like that and unsure why I paid that much extra? Also ordered the chicken teriyaki. The chicken was flavorful and juicy. I loved the oshinko pickles that paired with it. The rice was not great and didn't taste freshly made. The miso pickles weren't what I was expecting, but were refreshing. I saw tables next to me eat the bao buns and Sando's which looked promising. This is in a great lively location. I'd love to come back and try their drinks before heading out!

Yelp
Love the original Belmont shop so was excited to try the Wrigley location. Upon entering I was surprised that this location has way less packaged Asian snacks but then there's an actual kitchen serving freshly made snacks... I ordered the egg sando which comes with potato chips. The sandwich filling was creamy and decadent with a hint of white pepper. The bread was a bit of a letdown. It was too thin and didn't work well with the rich filling. I think I'll stick with the original location brimming with Asian snacks in addition to the plethora of beverages.

Yelp
Konbini and Kanpai's Wrigleyville location is now open, and it's excellent! Located in the former Dark Horse space at 3443 N Sheffield (between Newport and Cornelia) they could not be more different than the predecessor as they are a sake and wine bar with a small-ish food menu of Japanese bar bites, bowls and sandwiches. Everything we tried was delicious. Service was awesome and guided us through the menu and their sakes, which was awesome since I am not normally a sake person. While we sat at the bar, they also have a great patio out back. They also sell beer, ciders, wine and a few snacks to go. Check 'em out!

Yelp
Cozy place. Service was great. Food came out fast. Food was yummy! Will come back soon.

Yelp
Went to a whiskey tasting with friends and have been in to pick up soju and sake. The staff here are so knowledgeable and friendly. They have snacks here too that you can sit down and eat while you drink. Dog friendly, kid friendly. Can't speak more highly of this place.

Yelp
Ahh! This used to be Dark Horse Tap and Grill, remember that! This is from the people that's behind the original on Belmont, and I haven't been to that one. I had the Cold Miso Cucumbers. The staff and service is wonderful. PS. They open daily at 11 am. The exact hours are T.B.A. until the Grand Opening, which can be any day.

Yelp
Of course it has a great selection of sake, but all the food was fantastic. The katsu sando was perfect and the pork belly bao were melt in your mouth. Back patio is not heated, but it is covered and very cute.

Yelp
Fantastic food and even better people! Beer and Sake selection is awesome too. Kanpai!!
