"Best Breakfast in Town There are a lot of great places to eat in the North Shore town of Haleiwa but Kono's is by far my favorite. Their menu ranges from banana macadamia nut waffles to breakfast sliders (the biscuits are delicious!) to wraps to Kalua Pig in a variety of preparations. And milkshakes, delicious milkshakes. Kono's is known for its breakfast bombers - tortillas filled with egg, potatoes, cheese and your choice of filling. My favorite was the Haleiwa filled with Hawaiian pulled pork. They definitely fill you up and are perfect after a day of surfing on the North Shore. It's located at the front of the North Shore Marketplace next to the Quiksilver North Shore Boardriders Club surf shop. It's open only for breakfast and lunch. You can also eat for free on your birthday. By Christine"

"Surfing burns an awful lot of energy, so it’s not surprising that the North Shore is equipped with a few hearty breakfast spots. After a long morning in the ocean, locals go to Kono’s for breakfast burritos, pulled pork, and seriously good milkshakes. Not surprisingly, the pulled pork breakfast burrito, which combines all of their best dishes, is the must-order menu item (though brave souls should also try their Spam breakfast burrito—it's the equivalent of trying Vegemite in Australia)."

Kono’s Northshore opens in Las Vegas with its first restaurant outside of Hawai‘i - Eater Vegas

"Kono’s Northshore is famous for pulled Kalua pork slow-roasted for 12 hours, and then served in toasted French roll sandwiches, inside its version of a burrito dubbed a bomber, and in plate lunches and bowls. Kono’s got its start in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oʻahu back in 2002, and the new Washington Avenue location in Las Vegas is the company’s first restaurant outside of Hawai’i. The restaurant opens daily at 7 a.m. with breakfast bombers served with eggs, cheese, and potatoes, and wrapped in a warm flour tortilla, with optional extras of bacon, pork and Portuguese sausage. Lunch sandwiches arrive with Maui onion potato chips and fillings of turkey, Kalua pulled pork, bacon, and avocado, and servings of white rice are added to the plate lunches. Kono’s also pours multiple flavors of milkshakes, including orange popsicle, cinnamon roll, Key lime, and coconut cream pie flavors." - Bradley Martin

This is a great little spot to pick up some great food. I wish I would have gotten something other than the sliders. It’s not that they were bad, they were just tiny and I was left hungry after. We went for lunch one day and breakfast the next. The burritos as bomb. They are huge, filling and oh so tasty. Highly recommend going if you’re looking for a nice spot to chill, eat some good with the local chickens and do some shopping.

Ray is the owner/manager and was super respectful, jovial, courteous and genteel. Nice to meet you man! The environment has plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The chairs are metal so bring a towel you can fold up if you have no butt to cushion your experience. Food was great! Pricing is decent and it’s great because you are supporting local businesses. Especially after European colonialism and the heavy white presence here. Remember to respect the people and the culture. This isn’t just a paradise excursion. This is a land where the people have for generations established a kingdom and we are visitors against their will so show respect. The music is calming and the location was easy to access. The portions are kinda small. At least for me. I’m an average 6’4” 250 lbs and I EAT. So I probably wouldn’t come here if I was extremely hungry but the meal is a good lean meal to get your day started or if you just need to fill yourself to stave off hunger. Or if you’re a smaller person with a regular appetite. lol. Also I think the portions are for white people that serve as the majority of the people here so I’m not surprised the local businesses would make portions to serve the primary audience. In any case an excellent restaurant. Remember to support the locals here. Not white colonialism.

Google
Great spot for a casual, satisfying meal after a day exploring the North Shore! The pork is definitely the star here—tender, flavorful, and served generously. I had the Bombers and they lived up to the hype—loaded, filling, and packed with flavor. The portions are big, so come hungry. The vibe is laid-back and the staff was friendly, even during the lunch rush. It’s not a huge space, so seating can be tight during peak times, and there was a bit of a wait. But the food came out quickly once we ordered. Overall, a solid spot for classic Hawaiian-style comfort food. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Haleiwa!

Google
Chuns bomber was awesome. Flavor and portion size was just right. Biscuits and gravy were good and the gravy was flavorful. Definitely recommend the iced vanilla macadamia nut coffee. Get it with a splash of cream and simple syrup.

Madeline Lefler

Google
The sliders were insanely delicious! I do agree would other reviews though that portion sizes are small. I’m someone who never cleans their plate and I ate every single bite. There’s not very much seating and you are right by a busy road.

Google
Good experience but there were just too many mistakes, each of our burritos were wrong. NOTE: The guy was new and training, but there’s no reason for this many mistakes on simple breakfast wraps. One of our burritos was a vegetarian one and the guy put bacon. Another one was supposed to have avocado and it didn’t- it was put on another burrito despite us telling the worker. In addition, we asked for them to be cut (they asked us if we wanted it cut) but they weren’t, and they did not give us the sour creams we paid for. 2 of the burritos tasted good but the guy needs to be trained better or taken off the grill/assembly area. Unfortunately he had no clue. Also very overpriced for burritos. The iced vanilla Mac coffees on the other hand were very good. I believe this place is famous and well-known for a reason, but the new staff should be trained better and mistakes should be dealt with better. The lady did refund for a burrito and wrong topping, but at that point we could not enjoy them anymore.

Google
Service was fantastic, and strawberry lemonade was to die for!! Our food was good, but didn’t wow us. (We got the Hawaiian bowl, and the Old School sandwich) I’ll admit we were not super hungry when we came, so perhaps not ready lol, but this location closes so early and we wanted to try! I think if we were to eat here again I’d try some of the breakfast options, those seem to be more popular.

Google
So I was going to share the look of the burrito and all that jazz but I ate it too fast.. don't go to a place this good hungry with the intentions of leaving a review. It didn't last the time it took me to remove the phone from my pocket... Anyways OMW to get a tattoo 😂

Yelp
Stopped by for breakfast, it wasn't bad. It wasn't the greatest. It was just ok, I bought a bottle of their hot sauce and that's pretty good!

Yelp
Juice is great and staff is super friendly! PS they don't have loco moco's- someone incorrectly posted a pic.

Yelp
Great little local spot Me and my husband shared a breakfast burrito It was called a bombers unfortunately we didn't get any bacon in it but it was still delicious We got a strawberry lemonade it was so refreshing and made with real strawberries I got a macadamia nut iced coffee Cashier was very friendly There was a huge line when we arrived around 9 am but it moves quickly and good is prepared quickly as well would definitely be back
google avatar

Rachael A.

Yelp
The macadamia nut iced coffee was so yummy! And my lox bagel was fantastic as well. Great spot for a quick bite. The chickens outside were also quite fun to watch. Service was friendly, it was a bit busy but we weren't in a rush. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
We found ourselves in Haleiwa at lunch time during our day trip to the north side of Oahu and we found Kono's on our shopping stroll and decided to try their Kailua pork. We were not disappointed! Pork was delicious, the quesadilla a bit too flavorful and spicy for my taste, better to enjoy the pork as is. Recommended!

Yelp
No change from 10 years ago. Been excited to get a bomber since I've been back on island. Used to be a weekly stop and sunrise with coffee and burrito on Waimea beach. Service with a smile. Totally chill vibe from Haleiwa. That was me wishing. Looks like they streamlined the process.... Little ovens with a bunch of premade ingredients. Hmmmm. Still a pretty damn good burrito. Torn between 4 and 5 stars.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff, quick service, delicious food in a fun environment! The chun burrito was delicious! Get it!

Yelp
Kono's is located in the heart of Haleiwa, there's a parking lot behind the restaurant which is convenient as parking in town can get busy. We stopped in for breakfast on a Tuesday. There was a line, so be prepared to wait to order and for your meal to be prepared. There are hand flow seats inside picnic tables outside as well as a few chairs. The restaurant is lacking in cleanliness, the staff were friendly and menu had various items. We tried the breakfast burritos, you get what you see on the menu, very basic/plain. I feel like even just putting the burrito in a pan/on a grill once stuffed with all of the ingredients would send it over the top. If you're looking for basic hand held breakfast options this is it, but be prepared to wait as it does get long.

Yelp
The food was amazing my friends had pulled kalua pork plate lunch fresh greens rice etc - they loved it!!! I never have high expectations at any local place for veggies when they serve plate lunch ... Well I am shocked at how fresh and flavorful the wrap was !!!I will be back and the service was great. The staff had a few demanding entitled tourists - and they treated them with true aloha I am not sure I would have. I will definitely bring friend here. Chill ambiance w picnic table vibes outside but covered space.
google avatar

Yelp
I was so glad to see there was a lighter meat option aside from pulled pork. I ordered the turkey bacon cheddar sandwich and was extremely disappointed. First - the bread was moldy. Second, it was just mayo... no mustard? Any other kind of fun sauces? Maybe a chipotle or bbq that they use in the other wraps and bombers? Service was fast and friendly, prices are reasonable (the sandwich also came with a small bag of chips)... but man was this sandwich disappointing all around. There's so much potential to do better with the sandwich options with just repurposing some of the other ingredients they already have on hand in the restaurant.

Yelp
Decided to try while on North Shore, later that day my daughter and I got matching Kono's tattoos for the 25% off for life - worth it ha! Great food and atmosphere. Prefer the north shore location but they're all delicious
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Stopping at Kono's was a must-try during my visit to Northshore. We went during breakfast and each got the chuns bomber and guava limeade. The burritos were hearty and packed full of pulled pork, eggs, and cheese. The limeade was tangy and flavorful. I've had many breakfast burritos in my life and these were good - but they weren't overly impressive. Just a decent & filling burrito all around. Could have used more of a flavor punch. A good salsa or sauce would have done the trick. Service was friendly and prompt.
google avatar

Ry T.

Yelp
Food was ok. It's sort of a hole in the wall popular with locals. Staff was friendly. I had a guava drink with sliders. Came with a bag of chips. Not the best sliders I've ever had. Hubby got the bbq pork dish and liked it.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place! The staff are super helpful when ordering. We've been here two days in a row for breakfast. Yea steady, we shared biscuits and gravy. Probably one of the best gravy's I've had. The biscuits were soft n fluffy. It came with eggs and bacon. Very good flavor overall. Today, I had a the Waimea (bacon, egg, and potatoes.) Very good! We also ordered a Chun's burrito w/jalapeños($1.75 to add the jalapeños). The Chun's burrito comes w/pulled pork, egg & potatoes. I was told that it was very good. The pulled pork was delicious w/smokey flavors. Honestly, we will be back everyday for as long as we're here. I would totally recommend! The hot vanilla macadamia nut coffee is outstanding. I also had it iced. I just needed to ad creamer and it was so tasty. Thank you!
google avatar

Trystahn T.

Yelp
This place rocked!! The Chuns Breakfast Bomber was amazing! I got it with Avocado and had their chipotle sauce which gave it a good kick of heat. They've got other locations all over the place so if you see one I'd stop for sure!
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Place was busy by the time we arrived and the line was out the door. This place is small and has 3 tables for dine-in. My boyfriend ordered one of their breakfast burritos and I got ordered the Kapahulu tacos. Both were good and satisfied our hunger. We also ordered a vanilla macadamia nut iced coffee. Overall, food was delicious. Service is friendly and quick.

Yelp
If you're venturing to the North Shore, a stop at Kono's in Haleiwa is a must! This long-time favorite spot serves up the legendary Pork Plate Lunch, which is worth the drive all on its own. The portions are huge--seriously, one plate could feed a small army (or at least three people). The flavor? Awesome. The value? Unbeatable. Eating outside adds a dash of adventure as you battle the local hungry chickens for your food. It's a dining experience you won't forget!

Karlyn G.

Yelp
I had the Kono bowl (Kalua pork, raw cabbage & rice) I guess I had assumed that the cabbage was cooked and not raw, the pork was dry - the only thing that saved it and made it edible for me was the sauce, not sure exactly what the flavor was but maybe a lemon poppy dressing. My husband got the Kono breakfast burrito and was pretty pleased with the size and flavor.
google avatar

Carla G.

Yelp
The biscuits were nice a soft and tender. The eggs were powdered Holiday Inn Express eggs. The pulled pork was fantastic. I would eat here again with modifications.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Luckily I got here when the Vans competition was happening so there was no line. The food was excellent, I ordered The Biscuit Sliders for breakfast and they were really good. I also got the Lava smoothie and it went really well with the breakfast, very refreshing. Great spot!
google avatar

Jae C.

Yelp
They know how to cook pork right. So soft and flavorful and very filling. It's good to grab and go. There are some table seatings but many chickens come to you hoping to share some so I actually prefer to take it to a beach park and enjoy. Service was great and quick. I love that they use environmental friendly packaging mostly. I think I could have these bombers every day for breakfast and I won't be sick of it.
google avatar

Jacob H.

Yelp
Awesome little spot. The pulled pork is a must have. Staff were super friendly. Got the pulled pork bacon bomber. Salsa was delicious! All around awesomeness.
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
Love the kalua pork sliders with the bbq sauce they put on it. Fills you up without being too heavy on the stomach. Comes with a side of chips. The workers are very nice and patient and willing to answer any questions about the menu.
google avatar

Brenda F.

Yelp
Great little place for breakfast in Haleiwa. We had the biscuit slider trio. A different meat (bacon, Portuguese sausage or kalua pork) on each with egg and cheese. Delicious!! Also the lava smoothie was great. Very tart, but in a good way. The pineapple lemonade was amazing too. Great outside or inside seating. Super quick!!! 4 people ahead of us and we still only waited about 10 minutes. Highly recommend.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Ordered the Chun's bomber and it did not disappoint. Huge breakfast burrito with kalua pig and bacon, added avocado. Food came out fast--staff were friendly and suggested adding the avocado and sour cream. Kind of a hole in the wall spot with lots of outdoor seating filled with eating buddies (roosters and hens).
google avatar

Brishana H.

Yelp
I came here at 9am on a Friday and there about 5 people ahead of me but the wait wasn't too bad and once I ordered, I got my food pretty quickly. I got the Queens Bomber and added avocado/sour cream! The chorizo has a nice spice to it. Don't forget to ask for salsa on the side if they don't provide it. Their Kono's mud pie milkshake with whip is awesome. The interior has few tables to eat as well as some bench seating outside to enjoy your food. Worth it!
google avatar

Christian R.

Yelp
My visit to Kono's in Haleiwa left much to be desired. Despite its reputation, I found the food lacking in freshness and flavor. The burritos seemed premade and lacked the vibrant, farm-to-table ingredients I had hoped for. Additionally, they were excessively oily, which overshadowed any potential flavors. The overall cleanliness of the establishment was also a concern. The place could benefit from a thorough cleanup to enhance the dining experience and create a more inviting atmosphere for patrons. While Kono's may have its appeal for some, I was left underwhelmed by the lackluster quality of the food and the need for improvement in cleanliness standards.
google avatar

Yelp
Throwback to farmhouse style restaurant in Haleiwa individualistic tones, college vibes, apparently pork rules here. Pork plate - sizeable mound of their 12-hour slow cooked pork. For me, I like my pork with a good bbq sauce but the one they served in a sauce cup was refrigerator cold. They have chipotle, habanero and mango/pineapple hot sauces that you can purchase for an additional 50c each, or just buy a whole bottle for $11! Problem was, I had to ask about all this - eventually, they gave me three sauce samples for free. I recommend chipotle which has more complexity than the habanero (the hottest), and more of a BBQ roasting flavor versus the mango/pineapple. Served in a to-go box with green salad and a scoop of quite regular white rice. There's also a popular Pig on Grass plate that is basically the same as Pork Plate except instead of rice you get a bunch of salad, with cucumber and tomato upgrades. Their breakfast menu is filled with different types of "bombers", a cute name for burritos. Then they also have bagels, sandwiches and wraps. But you come here for pork, no question. The milkshake menu is extensive but I opted for a vanilla macadamia nut coffee instead. It was smooth, nutty with subtle vanilla bean reminders. That's all...

Yelp
Love this place, it's always a must when visiting. The pulled pork is to die for, the service is great!!
google avatar

Yelp
Love their Chuns burrito! Perfect place to get breakfast burritos or come after the beach to get some burritos for lunch!
google avatar

JaDee W.

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended this place so we decided to stop by and I don't regret going but it definitely wasn't a family favorite. Food isn't bad by any means but I also feel like it's not memorable and it honestly wasn't very flavorful. My husband and I both agreed that it seemed like it was missing something but neither of us knew exactly what it was missing: salt, lime, some type of acid, I'm not sure. The lemonade was okay, more watery than sugar or lemon flavor. I could also see the strawberries but barely tasted it in the drink. Only positive is that it was fresh berries and lemons used to make the drinks. My daughter liked her turkey and cheese. The bread was soft and easy for her to bite into. I just wish instead of chips you could have the option of fruit or something especially at the $10 price point. I will say though that the bombers are huge and good for the price point. I wouldn't personally add the guac and sour cream again but the jalapeños are definitely a must addition. It honestly could have used more than the 4 jalapeño slices they gave me. I'd come back if I didn't know where else to eat but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.
google avatar

Ronald E.

Yelp
Always stop here at this "dive" when up on the North Shore (Haleiwa). Can't pass on their "bomber" with the great Kalua Pork and bag of Maui Onion Chips.Top it off with a cup of pineapple juice and call it a day
google avatar

Catherine A.

Yelp
I highly recommend the nachos with pulled pork which the cashier had recommended to me :)! Lots of flavors and good portions. I would give this place a 5 if the wild chickens surrounding the picnic tables outside didn't jump onto the table and steal a bite out of my lunch.

E Y.

Yelp
I went into this restaurant that everyone hypes up about. I ordered my food and was waiting on the table outside. I peaked in to see if they called my name and saw some guy and girl who works there smoking. This is very unethical and disgusting as I am not a smoker and don't want this around my food. I walked out and did not pick up my burrito. I will not recommend this business to anybody as it is run very poorly.
google avatar

Jonathan A.

Yelp
First off, this restaurant pays for 5 star reviews so buyer beware. It's against yelps terms of service. See review picture for evidence. The service was ok, I specifically asked for no jalapeno on my pork quesadilla and they loaded it up with jalapenos anyway. The kitchen staff was willing to fix their mistake and made me a new one fairly quickly. It was a good portion size for the price. The other big issue was the seating. There were half a dozen chickens roaming right outside the restaurant and it was not a pleasant eating environment. They really need a covered trash can to cut down on food waste, but I would never eat it there again. Get it to go for sure.
google avatar

Jaquielyn A.

Yelp
ok their Guava BBQ sauce?!?! I wish I could bathe in this stuff, it is so dang delicious!!!!!! We got their pork nachos which had the most flavorful, tender pork you could ever imagine. Combined with the heavenly bbq sauce? GET OUTTA TOWN, it was so good!!!!! The tortilla chips were your standard costco tortilla chips but the pork made everything well worth it. The POG was a little on the bitter side but I think that is because they fresh squeeze their orange juice. Breakfast burrito was meh but don't skip out on those pork nachos. Bomb.com

Yelp
Once I again we would like to thank and commend Gianna and her team at Kono's in Haleiwa. We spent 9 weeks on the North Shore this winter and one of the real culinary highlights for us was a late breakfast at Kono's. The highlight was the Kailua pork bombers! The portions were huge and the prices were very reasonable.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We tried the South Shore shop in Waikīkī, but it's time to break fast on the North Shore... This morning we are having burritos at Konas. We are waiting for them to open and right away the Hawaiʻi style reggae is floating through the door. Mountains to the left, ocean to the right; tings couldn't be beddah! Chuns and Waimea will be our delight this morning! Be sure to ask for the trimmings! Of course the location cant be beat, and that combined with the music, and decor... can't be beat. The friendly person took our order and set us up right! Perfect! Come in and get fed!

Roena C.

Yelp
We had high hopes from the pictures of this place. Unfortunately it was all bad. The person who took our order acted like he was miserable. We ordered a club wrap and a turkey melt. My wrap was filled with brown wilted lettuce and the melt was cold. The shredded cheese inside was not melted. When we were leaving there was no thank you. No aloha spirt.
google avatar

Roman K.

Yelp
Great employees and reasonable prices! Staff were willing to give me advice on other places to see in the area! I tried their specialty burrito and it was flavorful! Their guava drink is also super tasty.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
I'm kinda surprised by the reviews. I came here expecting a bomb burrito but just thought it was okay. I got the chun breakfast burrito and the eggs were SO salty. The kalua pork was very good and delicious, though. I also enjoyed the vanilla macadamia nut coffee! Parking is easy. There are also many souvenir shops nearby where you can peruse.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Best breakfast burritos in Hawaii! I'm glad I had the chance to try Kono's in the Northsore. They definitely live up to the hype. I got a chance to order their Chuns burrito fully loaded and the biscuits trio and both were amazing! The Chuns came was loaded with slow cooked Kalua pork and bacon. It had jam packed of flavor and size was generous. The biscuits trio was a hit as well. The biscuits were soft and moist. The gravy was phenomenal. ! It came with the three different meats as well - kalua pork, bacon, and Portuguese sausage. Overall one of my best meals here during my vacation. Couple of tips - order on the phone 15-20min before coming to avoid the lines/wait. Also if write a review for a discount.
google avatar

Kaitlin M.

Yelp
The Chun Bomber was fantastic. We got it fully loaded which includes sour cream, jalapeños and avocado. It's a must stop on the north shore!
google avatar

Leland N.

Yelp
Enjoyed the food. I believe I got the queens with added avocado and sour cream. Had a couple of my friends there with me and I believe they got the Waimea and my other friend got a bagel of some sort. Definitely will be back to try something new the next time.

Yelp
This popular Northshore eatery is located somewhat discreetly on the backside of the North Shore Marketplace shopping center in Haleiwa. We stopped by Kono's for a late lunch after a Saturday morning in Waimea Valley and the line outside was reasonable considering only one party can fit inside to order at a time. My lunch companions both ordered "bombers" but I decided to try the Kalua sliders. We found a table (lots of chickens like to hang out here) and waited about 15 minutes for our food to be ready (though it may have been ready earlier as it was hard to hear them calling names for pickup). The 3 Kalua sliders came with a side of potato chips and the meal was good overall but not extremely impressive. The pulled pork was tasty, but the guava BBQ sauce didn't stand out too much. The sliders were also a tad soggy (probably because I missed their first call for pickup). The chips were a crispy and salty pleasant contrast to the sliders. It would be even better if a side of slaw was served as well! I would come back to try the bombers and the nachos people were eating also looked pretty delicious. Lessons learned: Pay extra attention so you don't miss picking up your food when it is ready!

Nicole B.

Yelp
Kono's Northshore has become a bit of a tradition. Juliet and Steven always take care of us. Pig nachos, bomber burritos and a milkshake are must have after shark diving or surfing. Don't mind the chickens it's part of the experience ;) until next time ‍ ‍

Jayven Anthony D.

Yelp
Barely on this side but glad we decided on this place when we were ! Konos has anything from breakfast burritos to lunch plates. Wide selection so I'm sure you will find something you'll like here. Staff is very friend and accommodating and there is outdoor seating available . Today went with the Pork Plate lunch which comes with a scoop of rice and some salad. The pork is really moist and the bbq sauce provided is a really good compliment. Make sure you smother it! The salad dressing is tart but I loved it. Very citrusy! It's not a hefty portion but it's just right. My co worker for the nachos and said they were Ono as well!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Initially, I saw Kono's awesome reviews online but when we got to Haleiwa, we decided to see what other places there were for breakfast. Thankfully, we ended up at Kono's. The staff were friendly and helpful (we couldn't decide what to eat). Our breakfast hit the spot too! We had their Haleiwa bomber burrito with jalapeños and their Kahlua pork sliders in Hawaiian rolls. The pork in both dishes were juicy and flavor packed. The burrito reminded me of my San Diego home, but I did wished it was spicier. I also loved eating outside of Kono's with our chicken friends. Good food, chill atmosphere and beautiful weather converged for a perfect start to our day.

Yelp
Got some burritos to go for when we hit up Waimea and Turtle beach. Big burritos with plenty of good stuff in there. Worth every cent!
