Metro Detroit’s 11 Best Restaurants and Cafes for Korean Food | Eater Detroit

"Step into the Korea Palace, a family-owned Korean barbecue restaurant established in 2004, to be treated like a king or queen. Service here is fast and friendly and accompanied by a delightfully thorough menu on which everything is homemade. Korea Palace classics include bo ssam (steamed pork belly meat with kimchi and oysters on the side), gamja tang (pork and potato soup), and LA kalbi (prime beef ribs simmered in honey soy sauce). To make a reservation, call the restaurant directly." - Danny Palumbo

Went here almost a month ago, just before closing time — and still had such a lovely experience. The staff was super kind and attentive, even though it was late. Food came out fast and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. No disappointments at all! This has officially become one of my favorite Korean restaurants 🥹💖 Highly recommend it to anyone who loves Korean food. I’ll definitely be back, even though it’s a 45-minute drive from home. Totally worth it!

We recently hosted my nephew’s 1st birthday party at Korean Palace, and it was perfect. They accommodated our group of 40 guests, and everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. Korean food is best when served warm and they made sure the food stayed warm by setting up chafing dish buffet sets. The dishes were absolutely delicious, and the facility was spotless and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better location to celebrate such a special milestone. Thank you again!

Google
What a great family run restaurant. The staff was so hospitable and Heather was especially sweet and made us feel super comfortable. Food was good, we left with full bellies! Kimchi was authentic and the meat was good quality. The bibimbap was very stadium, and nice with the crispy rice!

Google
Such an authentic Korean spot! Every dish was unique, packed with flavor, and just fantastic. The side dishes? Absolutely top-tier—so good I could’ve had a meal with just those. And the entrees? Equally impressive! Their dubuki was insanely flavorful and juicy, easily one of my favorites. The place has plenty of seating, and the hospitality? 10/10. Definitely recommending this place and already planning to take my friends back.

Google
Came here with my family and was so massively disappointed by the food. I am not exaggerating to say that this is the worst korean food I have ever had. We ordered four different dishes including kimchi tofu soup and bimbimbap. The food was so tasteless that we even considered to ask for more salt. The kimchi pancake had a very sandy texture and was so oily that made it difficult to swallow. Usually the dishes we order are the classic korean dishes and wouldn't go wrong. It honestly puzzles me how they went so wrong with our food. The shop front looked so dark as if it was closed. The waitress was so emotionless as if she was forced to be there.

My wife and I hadn’t been here in over eight or nine years, and decide to pop back in. We forgot how much we love it. Honestly one of the best Korean restaurants in Metro Detroit. The staff were patient and informative and the food was delicious and fresh. Highly recommend! Also, if you’re feeling adventurous, try the raw crab, it was phenomenal

Google
Food was good, portions were big, service was prompt. Big fan of the assorted pickles they give for appetizers too.

Google
We keep coming back - this place is fantastic. K-pop is on the TV, as it should be. Their Ttoekbokki, kimchi pancake, and spicy fried chicken are amazing starters. Their bulgogi is outstanding. My friend and I often split the bbq combination B, which is out of this world. I have never had a bad entree either. Pair anything with a Cass or OB beer, or soju if that's your thing, and you are guaranteed to have a delicious experience here.

Yelp
Asian restaurants of all sorts are thick on the ground where Troy meets Sterling Heights meets Madison Heights, and I've vultured around circling the area stopping in at new places. But somehow I missed Korea Palace. Hardly palatial despite the name I ventured in on the advice of GK who KNOWS Korean food! The outside is...plain. The inside looks like the Korean version of a Rustler steak house from 1978. Including cases of soda stacked right near the entry. Not surprisingly crowded for a sunny Friday I was seated down a long side room filled with booths and BBQ tables. Now GK had warned me that the service is Korean abrupt. And true to form my server was no nonsense. Think Korean cafeteria lady without the steam tables ot hair net. I ordered hot tea and asked if the entres came with a "Banchan set?" She said, " it's a Korean restaurant ", with the " of course moron" implied. GK warned me! The menu is extensive with a great selection of lunch combos. I opted for Gulgogi and soft tofu stew. First came the before mentioned banchan set. Fish cake, which was a bit bland but good, seaweed with sweetened vinegar, excellent and steamed broccoli with I believe sesame oil and coarse salt, which was very good. Kimchi was also served and was excellent. Bulgogi came in a portion big enough for two....or three, and soft tofu stew was literally boiling hot with tons of flavor. Included was the totally Korean little tin of purple rice. The bulgogi was sweet and salty and super tender. The soft tofu stew was great with a deeply flavored broth. I have a feeling they toned down the spice in the soft tofu stew thinking I was a newby to Korean fare but the flavor was great. Service was stoic and virtually silent but not bad and my refill of banchan was brought without issue. Prices are reasonable particularly for the amount of food. All in an authentic Korean place that holds its own with its nabes. Korea palace, they might not treat you like a King...but they'll feed you like one. Korea Palace.....Go!

Yelp
Great service with friendly staff. Authentic menu and a wide variety of dishes to choose from. I would highly recommend Korean Palace over other korean restaurants nearby.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible experience! Thank you again to Sonny who was so great to us, making some great jokes and ensuring we knew exactly what we were ordering to not be later dissatisfied! We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm and were seated immediately and the food was some of the best Korean food I've had. Our spread came out in the perfect time and we ate until we couldn't! Korea Palace will certainly be seeing us again!

Yelp
Food was great. I've been going to this Korean Restaurant for more than 18 yrs and it never disappoints me. Sunny one of the server loves to say some jokes, the other server are also great. The place looks small outside, but it is bigger inside.

Yelp
Ordered the tteok boki appetizer, bulgogi, and #6 tofu soup. Size mini vegetables appetizers and two bowls of rice were included. The tteok boki appetizer came with a mixed in jap chae - spicy but tasty 9/10. The #6 seafood soup was delicious and went great with the pickles vegetables and red bean rice. The interior of the restaurant was very large with big booth tables for groups. The waitress was welcoming and very enthusiastic to recommend dishes. Great experience

Yelp
Delicious food! Great service! Their menu is filled with so many delectable Korean dishes that you must go back to try all! This is a great place for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
The food is great and the portions are decent for the prices. The nice thing about ordering Korean bbq here is that the staff will start the cooking process for you and help make sure the food is cooked correctly. The ambiance is a great place to be with friends and family! Only downside is that there aren't vents over the grills so you will definitely that smokey smell afterwards in your clothes and hair.

Yelp
Met some friends up for dinner the other week and really enjoyed the variety Korean BBQ has to offer. We started with different flavors of Soju then had dumplings, the seafood pancake and Dduk Boki. The Dduk Boki was my favorite. It was on the spicer side but just loved the flavor. Then we ordered two bbq meat combinations. Our server was attentive and would check in on us and help flip some of the meat as we cooked. They also have a buzzer in case you need to get the servers attention sooner but we never had to use it. The overall meal was on the pricer side although there was 5 of us but would have expected to at least have more left overs for what we all spent. I did enjoy the marinated meat the most from our entree and liked the sauce you are provided to dip it in. The restaurant itself could use some updating and they have paper print outs on the wall which could be presented nicer for specials but all and all I did like the food.

Yelp
I usually go to Chung Ki Wa down the street for KBBQ but a friend recommended this place so four of us tried it out today, and it was very good. We started off with banchan, aka the side dishes, and they had some that I hadn't had before - some fermented vegetables and also mushrooms. They also gave us some purple rice. We ordered the combo meal which is supposed to be for two people so we only got two rice portions, but that was enough. They have various combo meals but we chose the first one, which included bulgogi, ribs, chicken, and shrimp. Everything was very good and I think my favorite meat was either the bulgogi or the ribs. They will ask you if you want an onion to throw on the grill and I also asked for some garlic for the grill which is always tasty. We also ordered Japchae, a glass noodles dish with beef and veggies. This would have been a five-star review from me except the food was a bit pricey. The combo was about $64.95. There was another combo which was all beef options and that was a little pricier, and I believe there was a third combo to choose from as well. You can also order the meats a la carte which is what I usually do, but they start at $25 for bulgogi. The total bill before tip for the combo, the Japchae we ordered, and three soft drinks was about $94. That being said, service was friendly and fast, and I definitely look forward to coming back here at some point.

Yelp
The food taste just like I stepped back into Korea. Like halmoni made it herself. The staff and the owner treated me like family. Loved all the side dishes and I've been back tons of times. For true Korean while I come to the states, I drive the 1.5hr to get here every time. The place had a great location and so clean and neat remember to hit the bell for another bottle of soju!!!! You have to check this place out.

Joseph D.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful. The food is always served hot and it is beyond delicious. The service is outstanding. Everyone I have gone there with all agreed that it is a fantastic place to eat.

Yelp
Gamjatang sucks ! Banchan fresh but no flavor. Meat marinated well though. Cooks are Mexican !!! It's missing that Korean touch !!! I will never go back !! Also place needs a renovation! Dirty as F

Yelp
What is all the reviews? Good for large parties. Food: 2 stars Service: 2 stars Maybe we came on the wrong day.. christmas eve but isn't it suppose to be better because not many customers? Big place. They have their own parking area in the front. They sat us in the back to the right. Brought a high chair but no menus. So when we pressed the button to order she came and asked if we were ready. I said, menus would be nice! She looks at the table and said oh.. sluggishly turned around and without a word to get 2 menus. Ordered the 2 different kalbis, the shrimp plate, chicken soup on the last page. Shrimp was just shrimp. Meh LA Kalbi could've been a bit more flavorful. The cubed kalbi wasn't bad- would order again. Seafood pancake was normal, only good thing consistent with other korean restaurants. Chicken soup was HORRIBLE. Watered down left over dish water with left over meat that was gamey. Took one sip and left untouched. Hot sake was cheap! But if you like nail polish flavor, go for it! Pro: they can cook the meat in the kitchen if you end up getting too lazy like we did since we had 4 kids. Con: not worth the price. Or living in california, we have way better restaurants. Hold your standards high people! This was the highest rating in the area. How disappointing. Would not come back.

Yelp
The food was great and authentic,. The service was excellent and friendly. The kitchen worked very quickly. I got my meal with several sides in a very short period of time. As I tried to be more leisurely, other customers came in with larger tables and I noticed that their food came very quickly after having ordered. This was a great experience, and I intend to go back. One indicator of a restaurant menu's authenticity is the presence of diners of that ethnicity. I was the only non-Asian in the restaurant and it got very crowded during the time I was there on a Friday night. This is a really good sign in my estimation and my experience confirmed my intuition.

Yelp
The food was EPIC! Everything was delicious and beautiful. We came on a Thursday night and it was super chill. They close at 10:30 which is helpful for us night birds who work late. Server was the owners son and he was lovely. Told us a bit about the restaurant's history over the past 19 years and it made me excited to continue supporting this family owned business.

Paul L.

Yelp
Love this place! Family had been coming here for years and service is top tier service. The best part about this place is that it's traditional Korean food and the taste is amazing. I highly recommend this place for anyone who's looking for a good meal with a peaceful atmosphere. The management of this place also volunteered to donate food for a church gathering for over 100 students at an event. This really helped the students out enjoy the event and they have good strong moral values on top of their food.

Yelp
Good food, great service, awesome side dishes. Prices are a bit steep but it is good.

Yelp
Amazing food very clean the service is always fast Nice lady working there even gave me a senior discount

Yelp
I got the beef soondubu here and it came out bubbling hot in a stone bowl as expected. At first glance, the soondubu looked extremely creamy and savory and I was excited. Sadly, the spice level was a bit milder than I would have preferred and was a bit bland. However, the beef was great and so was the tofu and egg! Also, the kimchi is probably one of my favorites in the area. We asked for another dish and ate it all within 30 seconds. Yum! They also had "Dotori-muk" which is acorn jelly, something I've never seen in the Korean restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. Was pleasantly surprised since I haven't had that in awhile.

Yelp
Authentic Korean food. The taste took me back to the food I had in Seoul. Pricey but worth it if you are craving Korean bbq and a hearty meal. I ordered the Dwen Jang Jigae (soybean paste) stew and Korean BBQ Combination B, which comes with beef short ribs, pork belly, cha dol baeki (beef brisket), and rib eye. All combinations are served with rice, salad, and banchan. It was fun grilling the meat at our table and everything was delicious. You will come away stuffed and satisfied. Highly recommended.

Yelp
My neighbor and I went to try this place out on Saturday. He's 1/2 South African and 1/2 Japanese. He also lived for years in Korea. I ordered the Bim Bam Bop as it was as close to Bulgogi Del Sot as I could find. He ordered a Korean chicken dish that I don't recall. The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible. The 2 female servers were outright rude. When you order these dishes they bring out a variety of sides that include kimchi, seaweed, pickled cucumbers and so on. About 5-6 little tin dishes that contained these sides. One side per dish for 2 people. Needless to say the portions were small for one person and ridiculous for 2 people. We asked for more and they brought another spoonful of sides in each. Still not much but when we asked for more she said it was no longer free sides and we would have to pay. Fine. Then she literally tosses the tin dishes onto the table and charged $6 for 6 spoons of sides. He asked for a box at the end to take the leftovers and the eye roll from the server was unmistakable. Terrible terrible attitude from both ladies. Food was decent but I don't need to be treated like I'm a bum. I'll never go back and I would suggest you don't bother. Think I'm kidding? Read the other reviews. WORST SERVICE EVER.

Yelp
this place was an unexpected gem, we went on a Saturday around dinner time and there was no wait at all. the inside seating is super cute, the staff was very polite, and the portions on the food was way bigger than expected. i loved the amount of soju flavors they had, too. i'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This review is based on two of my family's specific visits for kbbq. I (and my family) have to drive minumum 45 minutes for any kind of kbbq from where we live. So when I can drive an extra half hour to try out 3 or 4 more options, the quest for the best kbbq near me was started. To cut to the conclusion, out of 4 or 5 places that I've tried, KP wasn't it. But the twist is that none of them were "it." And therein lies the dilemma. Each place always seems to have one edge over the others, but never all. KP had excellent unmarinated ribs. First visit was all about trying varieties. So I went with the combo that fed the three of us. We discovered that the unmarinated beef ribs were the best, and the staff seemed to confirm the sentiment. In fact, they told me straight out that they take pride in that particular item. So naturally we skipped the combo and only ordered said ribs second time around. (Another reason is more practical in that this is the most expensive cut. Lol) I'll probably touch on this when I do reviews for the other places, but one outfitted charcoal grills, which made their marinated meat taste amazing. Another offered raw pressed beef as an appetizer, which turned out to be the best part of the meal. Anyway, as long as KP keeps up the quality of their beef, and I don't find "THE" place that has the all-around game, I'll continue to crave, hence revisit them when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Went out to dinner with my husband and parents. My dad really had a taste for Korean BBQ (like he had in South Korea when he visited years ago). None of us had had Korean BBQ in the area (actually my husband and I had never). We loved this place. We got Combo A and Combo B for 4 people and had MORE than enough food. The combos came out with 4-5 small dishes of different veggies which were all really good and nice to try. Also came with a side salad. It was cool to cook the food right there and have it hot and fresh. We hinted that this was our first time and our waitress (I believe her name was 'Main' (?)) was so, so helpful. She basically cooked it for us, coming back to the table multiple times to make sure we were taken care of. I saw reviews of bad service and those must have been old because the service we received we amazing. She was really funny and friendly also. The outside is deceiving. Inside it was a very comfortable dining experience. We ordered beer and there were two different kinds (I think Asahi and Saporro?). Overall, I would highly recommend! My dad is already excited to go back!

Yelp
Taste is just okay and nothing special. Not worth the price. Servers were nice. The best stuffs were the chili paste and tea.

Yelp
Authentic korean food. I saw large groups of asian family to have bbq dinner there so that's already a good sign. Korean bbq taste great, I do wish they give me more side dish, novi korean restaurant has fish cake side dish. It said the bbq is good for serving of 2 and it is more than that. Me and my friend eat a lot and still can't finish all the food
google avatar

Yelp
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the best K-BBQ in Michigan (at least so far). The location is a bit unexpected, but the great thing is there's a lot of parking space. The restaurant has a pretty traditional interior and it was bigger than it first appear. The menu is pretty classic and extensive. You will be able to find most staples you're looking for in a Korean restaurant, although the only thing I wish they have but don't is a Braised Rib (Kalbi-Jjim). Although all the soups and kitchen things look amazing, most of the time I came here for the K-BBQ. They have combo options and albeit slightly expensive, you get your money's worth. The set menu came with a bowl of fresh lettuce (if you want to have your meat as wraps), various banchan (side dishes), rice, and I always ask for the braised egg (Gyeran jjim). We always go with Combo B which has beef short ribs, ribeye, brisket, and pork belly. They will help you grill the meat most of the time and they are very efficient at it. You can count on the generous portions. I actually enjoy the meat plain, without many condiments. I think it's good enough. The steamed eggs are fluffy and are full to the brim. I've seen places where the eggs are just sadly filling half the donabe bowl. The taste was authentic. The staffs are very friendly and helpful too.

Yelp
Came here for a business trip. So glad we came here, Authentic Korean food! Great service and nice environment

Stephanie M.

Yelp
They rushed us during the meal. Adding meat and veggies to the grill before we were ready. We were there for my dad's 65th birthday and felt bad about the whole experience. The grilled meat was bland and sad. Nothing about the sides were explained. It wasn't worth the cost by far.
google avatar

Daryl F.

Yelp
Went here for a work lunch. Prices are fair, food was great and true to life Korean atmosphere. I would go back for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go to spot for Korean food in SE Michigan. Impressive portion sizes and authentic tastes and feels all around. Love the ayce sides that come with meals but rarely have room to indulge much in them

Yelp
February 14,,, everything else was super booked. Long giant wait at the prospect Valentine's Day dindin restaurant. I whipped out the powerful Galaxy S9 with the retina scan. Ran the super amazing yelp app and found this spot which was closing in an hour. So I called, they said they'll accommodate my party of 6 and we showed up. We did the $150 platter which came with the appetizers and the kbbq meats. Let me tell you, there was so much food we barely was able to finish all of it. Oh, did I tell you it came with a bottle of Soju? Man,, the variety of meats and veggies were super good. Plus the service was totally short of a foot massage because they killed it tonight. I felt like we didn't even have to cook any of the meats. They all took over and even catered to everything we needed. I totally adore this restaurant. I would totally come back and eat here again if given the chance. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!!

Yelp
We absolutely LOVE this place! Seriously a gem. We weren't absolutely in love with any Korean restaurants nearby, and are so excited to have found this one. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is phenomenal. Our go-to dishes are the dolsot bibimbap and the mackerel fish. We've already visited 3x in the last 2 weeks and will be bringing all our friends here! !
google avatar

Robert Z.

Yelp
Everything was awesome today. Just popped in for some Galbitang and Kimchijjigae and it was all delicious. More than enough portion wise. We both had to get a to go container, so more for later! All in all good job!
google avatar

Maryvan N.

Yelp
Korea palace is my go too for Korean bbq. Just because I have been to the other Korean bbq restaurants around here and this is the most cost efficient. Other places charge more for the same thing. If you have never ate at a Korean bbq place, please wear clothes that you intend on washing right away or if you do not care about because when you walk out you will have a distinct smell and it stays on your clothes lol When you order meat normally it would come with about 6-7 small different sides. Try them all. My fav would be the kimchi and the fish patties Then the servers will cook the meat for you then you have stuff to eat They also have a button for you to call your servers which I love.
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
This is one of my family's favorite places to get Korean takeout. The soondubu, spicy seafood stew, and kalbi are phenomenal. Their delicious food always draws in a crowd and sometimes can take a while for the order to be prepared, but they do allow folks to call in with their orders ahead of time so you can plan travel and meal times accordingly. Love this place. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Korea Palace is not well known in the Korean community but now it will. This place amazing because... Service: The service is really nice and all the nice ajummas are super friendly and even help cook the meat for you if you don't know or kinda lazy hehe. Food/price: The food is really good and of course, it is known for their Korean bbq. I have to say the soon dobu is also really good! The pricing is pretty good and not bad for KBBQ. Audience: It is a good small gathering like friends or family! It is welcoming and really brings families together :3 Recommend/tips? Eat as much as you can :) but try to not get full from the unlimited side dishes. On the other hand, you can ask for side dishes and lettuce when needed!
google avatar

Christy H.

Yelp
Amazing food, even better service. Everyone was great with our two little kids. 10/10 will be back!
google avatar

Britt K.

Yelp
Honestly I have no idea what I'm eating. Lmao! I like trying new things and on Squid Game I seen the little girl eating "tteoboki" so I'm like hmm I wanna try that lol. I think it's spelled Duk boki here I'm not sure.. but it's actually pretty tasty.. and I also had chicken bim bi bop or something. If I actually knew what everything was I think I would've blended it right and I would've liked it better. The chicken was good.. ate most of it before stirring everything up. lol This isn't food I'm used to but I still gave 5 stars. It was a lot of food and they were nice and helpful inside helping me pick food for my carry out.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
This is a horrible place to go if you are vegan. Tofu bibimbap(minus the egg) served in a stone bowl is the only trust worthy dish. The sauce that comes with it is slightly hot and bland. It's in a picnic style ketchup bottle on the table and is meant to season all the dishes ordered for the table. I also ordered a side salad. It was plain crispy iceberg with a chili vinaigrette and that was good. It wasn't worth a third star. I went as part of a party and I knew going into it that I had only one choice. When I asked the server about meatless options her whole face took a down turn! It was because of that, that I didn't specifically try to veganize any other dishes by requesting an omission. If there was something else that I could have eaten there, I'll never know because I won't be going back. Dolsot Bibimbap(no egg)
google avatar

Arika A.

Yelp
Wonderful food however next time we will for sure be getting take out due to the lack of service. Had to ask for a water 4 different times and they weren't even busy.
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
Came here Friday night around 8:15 pm with my boyfriend, sister, and brother-in-law. It was not busy but there were a few tables occupied. Got seated right away. We were welcomed with hot corn tea which was delicious. This was my first time coming in over 10 years. We ordered the seafood pancake, yook gejang, ol sam bulgogi, beef bimbimbap, and the tofu kimchi pork dish. Everything was delicious but we definitely over ordered for 4 people and took the leftovers home. I would recommend all of these dishes and definitely an coming back for more! I can't eat spicy foods but I made the sacrifice and loved it! we ended getting complimentary yogurt drinks. These are the best from our childhood!
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
Excellent! This place is a great find. Highly recommended and we will certainly be back. The bulgogi, alone, is worth the trip but the menu is extensive and warrants further exploration, as well.

J J.

Yelp
Worst experience ever. The food was so full of MSG tasted like just eating a whole bunch of cheap instant food. It was a mistake to walk into this dumpster. Adding salt to injury, the waitresses and even the owner lady were extremely rude. Even tried to argue with me when I complained about the terrible food they served. As if she thinks doing so would convince me otherwise... yea... sure.

Ashley V.

Yelp
Horrible service. I've been here a few times and the older ladies always make faces when you ask for ANYTHING. I couldn't even enjoy my meal because I felt too uncomfortable to even ask for water. I have always left a $10-$20 tip but one time I didn't because I just wanted to get out of there and the lady stopped my sister as we were walking out and told her "you forgot the tip." How are you going to provide crappy service and still expect a tip? Unbelievable. This is unfortunate because we truly enjoy the food at Palace but have not been back in almost a year because of these experiences. I truly hope they stop having their friends/family as servers and hire some friendly faces soon.
google avatar

Mayumi S.

Yelp

Yelp
My favorite spot in this area. The food is always good & the quality is great. I come here for lunch a lot & love their lunch specials. The kalbi meat is tender, not chewy. Service is always good & they space out patrons really well

Yelp
The server greeted us and promptly took our order for 7 people. The side dishes came out, appetizers, and grill selections. She was very attentive and helped us navigate the menu items and grill our meal. She was very courteous and respectful on a busy Saturday night. The bulgogi and kalbi were savory and tender. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
I never post reviews this negative but it seems necessary in this instance. My girlfriend, her mother and I all went to this restaurant today because it's one of their favorite Korean restaurants. The food is generally fantastic. However, later today, my gf's mother was eating the leftovers of her Kimchi Jigae Stew and chewing what she THOUGHT was a piece of pork belly when she discovered that it was actually a Band-Aid. Ew. Cringeworthy. My girlfriend's parents own a restaurant of their own and - as disgusted as her mom was by this - she understands how difficult the restaurant business is and isn't the type of person to march into a restaurant and demand a free lunch over something like this. So she asked us to call the restaurant and alert them to the issue so they could have their cooks wear gloves in the future, particularly if they're wearing Band-Aids. Seems like common sense but I guess some people need to be gently reminded about certain things, like basic kitchen hygiene. My girlfriend called them on speaker and told them of the issue very politely and was met with 'well, you came in to eat and had no issues when you were here' in an incredibly rude tone. The rest of the call was colored by the same rude, defensive tone, even though my girlfriend made it clear we weren't even asking for a refund and explained that the Band-Aid was discovered in the leftovers later the same day. They didn't even apologize. Um. OK. Let's think about this. 1) If we were lying, why wouldn't we ask for a refund? 2) If you were still insane enough to think we were lying in spite of not asking for any compensation, simply go back into the kitchen and check your staff for hand injuries and/or Band-Aids. If one of them has either, obviously we weren't lying because we'd have no way of knowing about the injury or Band-Aid. We don't make a habit of walking through kitchens and coming up with creative things to complain about when we go out to eat. We'd just prefer not to munch on someone else's Band-Aid in our leftovers. Picture attached. If you zoom in, you can very clearly see a brown, caramelized Band-Aid in the center of the bowl. Makes me want to vomit just looking at it...
