We’ve tried this place three times and were disappointed every time. We’re honestly confused by the positive ratings. The sushi misses the mark across the board. The spicy tuna seriously lacked flavor and was just tuna with a side of spicy mayo and oversized cucumber, and the rice was oddly sweet. Overall, it almost tasted like what you’d expect sushi to taste like if you tried to make it at home. The shrimp tempura had similar issues. The house ramen also wasn’t good. The noodles were rubbery even after following the heating instructions, and the meat was strangely seasoned. Nothing tasted terrible, but everything tasted off. Overall, this is a 1–2 out of 10 for sushi and ramen. If you seriously like sushi or ramen, this is not your spot. It’s unfortunate because it’s close by, but there are much better options elsewhere.

We both made our own bowls and both were AMAZING. Hot, fresh, filling. The vibe was cool inside, and the service was good. The sushi was not great, but we got over it.

Visiting New Hamshire from Florida. Stopped for a quick back on my way to Boston airport. OMG. Delicious. You will not be disappointed. I had the Short Rib Ramen Bowl; the broth was so flavorful, and the short rib was so tender and juicy.

The atmosphere is cozy and the people who work here were pretty nice. The food came out quickly. I really wanted to give this place a great review but I was disappointed by the food. The vegetarian ramen was super bland. Cold tofu on top and all the veggies were extremely plain and only boiled. No seasoning or sauce to give it flavor whatsoever. The mushrooms were super chewy and unappetizing along with the bamboo shoots. And I usually love eating both of those foods. The only redeeming thing, food wise, was the matcha crepe cake which was okay and pre-made/refrigerated, but definitely not worth $8 a slice. The only thing I could think of while I was eating was the fact that I just wasted $30 on this meal.

Koro leaves much to be desired, food and service wise. We eat a lot of ramen and were excited to see a Japanese spot open in Eastie; I signed up for the weekly specials newsletter as a reminder to go. Won’t hold to Tokyo standard, but will hold it to other ramen that we’ve had in Boston (e.g., Santouka (our go-to), Yume Wo Katare, and the place in Chinatown across from Asana Sushi that rebranded recently) Service/Ordering : • No wait to order and seat 4 around 7:30pm, though seating quickly ran out after. Would recommend for parties of 4 or less • Several of us had questions on type of wavy/straight noodles used. Descriptions or photos would be helpful, because the wavy noodles turned out to be a non-conventional recipe. • When I ordered miso ramen with wavy noodles, I was met with “oh I think they already come with wavy…nevermind it doesn’t say on the menu.” Staff should be more knowledgeable; I expect this from a student pop-up, less so from a restaurant that’s been open for more than a month. I’m just following the 1-2-3-4 ordering steps, it was choose your broth and then your noodles. • I doubt many folks know what kukirage mushrooms are. Might be clearer to say “wood ear”, if you ever do a display revamp • During ordering, it is unclear whether you still get a third free topping if you opt for a paid topping. Partner got the bok choy, mushrooms, and $1.50 egg, but should’ve been able to add a fourth. • Kitchen was out of pork chashu two hours before closing, not a great look. • Please offer your guests cups and/or a setup for free tap water • Lights were lowered about 40% halfway into our meal even though it was ~8:15pm, far from 10pm closing time—mildly disruptive to our table’s conversation but mostly just confusing for a second • Most people’s attention is on the main menu when ordering and the weekly special flyer is easily missed. Just an observation. Food: • Chicken karaage was the highlight of the meal. Crispy batter without being too dry and good flavor on the chicken. The scallions don’t add anything when they’re underneath the chicken though, suggest leaving them out. • Miso ramen: the shiitake mushrooms were cold and watery (they should be marinated), the noodles were oddly spongey (instead of chewy & bouncy), and the miso broth was a disappointment—sharp but also lacked flavor and umami, as if the broth was thrown together 30 min ago and wasn’t given time to meld. Curious what kind of miso was used. Portions of corn and mushrooms were generous but only two leaves of bok choy? Chashu pork belly was reasonable—could be more tender, but the flavor was there. • Partner got the tonkatsu ramen. It was a thicker broth but still lacked flavor, as if flour was used to thicken it instead of aging pork bones properly. Was there any tare (seasoning sauce) added? He was similarly disappointed with the plain, cold mushrooms and $1.50 only netted half an egg. • I acknowledge this is subjective but the ramen spoons are comically large. I initially thought they were spoon rests. • I mean this in the nicest way possible, but perhaps consider lowering the frequency of your changing specials and focus on perfecting your mains. tl;dr would come back for the chicken karaage, would not come back for the miso or tonkatsu ramen unless both noodles and broths are significantly improved. Recommend taking a couple pages from Santouka and reworking some of your recipes & processes if you want to build a following. I genuinely want the best for this shop; Eastie deserves to have good (East) Asian food!

We had a wonderful time at Koro Ramen & Sushi. It's exciting to have a Japanese food option in East Boston. The food was delicious, fresh, and very flavorful. We tried the veggie and shrimp sushi, and we will definitely be coming back!

Koro is the new spot. From the moment you walk in, it's got that vibe – effortlessly chic, but still welcoming. You can tell there was thought and attention to detail about the whole experience. The sushi is so fresh, it's insane. You can really taste the quality, and tell that everything's made with so much care. Eastie has been needing a place like this, and Koro Ramen & Sushi is it. I'm so excited to have this restaurant in the neighborhood. It's not just a spot for food, it's a whole mood and so is Chef Harold.

As a sushi lover I was so excited to hear that this restaurant was opening in Eastie. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the expectation. The chicken karaage was good but the sushi was disappointing. I had the golden sunset and philly rolls. The fish did not taste very fresh, rice was not seasoned well, the mango was unripe, thin and leathery, and the roll quality was poor (see photos: not filled and pieces cut unevenly). Their specialty roll was so small, the same size as a basic maki despite being double in price. I do hope things improve so we can have some good Japanese food in East Boston.

Delicious ramen bowls that are perfect to take out for those cold days. I am in love with the build your own ramen bowls. My go to is the tonkatsu with pork belly. Staff is always friendly. I've never dined in but the vibe is great with lively music and a relaxed atmosphere.

I really wanted to like this place. The broth is the only thing I enjoyed here. I created my own ramen but was sad that they are so stingy with add ons. I ordered the short rib but only ended up with 2 pieces of meat. And short rib was an option you paid extra for. Bok choy only 2 pieces as well. Not 2 bulbs of bok choy just 2 leaves. For the egg , only half an egg and I paid extra for the egg only to get half. Which made me write this review. I spent a total 59 dollars for 2 ramens and an app. Which I wouldn't have minded but it wasn't worth it at all. The app I ended up getting was the wings which comes with a sauce on but got them on the side. I love chicken wings but these fried wings didn't even have any flavor no salt or pepper, garnished with scallions.The sauce that I got was good but still tasted like a bland wing.

Koro is a great spot for a quick and casual meal in Eastie. Their sushi, gyoza, and ramen are all so delicious! Building your own ramen with the fried chicken is 10/10. The interior is cute as well and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming.
