Seattle’s New Restaurant Openings

"This vegetarian spot that serves Middle Eastern street food has been a fixture at many farmers markets and events around town. Now it has a permanent space in Ballard. You can still find the restaurant's namesake dish on the menu, in addition to fattet hummus, ful medames, and Lebanese rice pudding." - kayla sager riley, aimee rizzo, gabe guarente

I’ve never had Koshari before and loved it. The fava bean plate was good too - the peta bread was made in house. We got to try some pomegranate molasses mixed with tahini on their home made peta chips. It was so darn good that purchased a bottle of molasses and tahini (both products from Lebanon). Don’t be confused by the signage out front that says Salt and Sugar

This place is absolutely amazing, and absolutely deserving of five stars - I would give more if I could! The food is delicious and effortlessly vegetarian - many vegetarian restaurants in the U.S. will attempt to make faux meat dishes, but this place has a smaller menu of dishes that are genuinely made vegetarian - not because of people lacking meat, but just because they taste great that way. The food is full of flavor - my friend had the Koshari bowl and I had lentil soup and sahlab. I had never had sahlab before, and I'm so glad I tried it. Not only was it warm, comforting and delicious, but the cashier asked a number of specific preparation questions and it was served hot right as I was finishing my meal. It was clear to me that the chefs handmade the sahlab - rather than, say, having an old batch they pulled from - and even kept an eye on where I was in my meal so they could time the presentation perfectly. The sahlab was absolutely delicious (I would get it every day if I lived closer!) but I was especially moved by how much care the people working here put into making it for me. I don't live close, but if I did, this would be a new staple I'd be visiting again and again. I'll be thinking about that sahlab for a long time.

Had a wonderful experience eating here for the first time! The owners are so kind and sweet. I had their house special dish with lentils, pasta, chickpeas, rice, and crispy onions. It was delicious, filling, and made for great leftovers. They opened in the Fall and are a couple blocks off Market. Highly recommend this spot!

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with this place. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the kindest smiles, the owners are genuinely some of the warmest, sweetest people we’ve ever met. You can feel the love they put into everything, and it really shows in the food. We had the koshari, fattet hummus, foul and makdous, they were all out of this world. So flavorful, comforting, and satisfying. It felt like a taste of home, even though it was our first time. Already talking about coming back and trying more things. Such a special spot❤️

This is one of the best places you can eat the famous traditional Egyptian dish Koshari, it was so tasty and very well balanced, the cook really puts his heart into balancing out the dish, and they have the mooooost amazing labneh I tried in my life, it was amazing I highly highly recommend with there hot bread. I would also order an extra bread with it, it's super yummy. I forgot to take a picture of the Koshari because we were very hungry 😅😂.

Tonight we tried Koshari(located in Salt&Sugar). It was so delicious and amazing service. We had Turkish coffee while we waited for our takeout food. Our takeout was delicious and flavorful (and everything was labeled so well for constructing at home)! 100% recommend.

Yelp
Homemade freshness and taste that comforts you on a cold winter day. We got the lentil soup - it came with fresh pita chips. I make lentil soups all the time but this had a different ingredient (perhaps dried mint?) that elevated the taste to a next level! The chips are fresh - not store bought, I usually stay away from too much fried stuff, but I ate all of those We also got the Koshari bowl (I forgot to take a picture) - the owner educated us regarding the history of this dish going back all the way to Indian sailors who got the Indian dish 'Khichidi' with them. The Indian 'khichidi' then got altered by the Egyptians along with the French/Italian colonial influences to give us the Koshari that they serve in the cfe. A hearty meal it is! And healthy too. They serve it with house made cumin-lime-jalapeno water and house made hot sauce that adds to the yumminess! I am glad we stopped by this place. We will be regulars :)

Yelp
Nothing negative to say! Really great flavorful food, friendly and quick service and an inviting space. The koshari and lentil soup were delicious and the rice pudding was my son's favorite! Worth a stop in for a quick dinner!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place, it's inside a bakery called Salt & Sugar and open at 3pm. I tried the Koshari bowl, Spinach fatayer and Fattet Hummus and holy cow- I was blown away! So flavorful, fresh and healthy. The vinegar/garlic sauce and chili sauce for the koshari were amazing. Highly recommend!
