"This Caribbean restaurant on Staten Island is equipped with a fire pit, strings of hanging Carriflags, turf patches, and a swinging love seat. They often host live music nights and $5 drink specials. Come here for guava margaritas, juicy jerk chicken, and a big plate of island pasta." - Hannah Albertine

It draws a crowd during happy hour from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, when island rum punches are only $7 and jerk wing orders are $3. We ordered through UberEats. The roti was filling but felt like it was missing something. Can’t figure out what it was. A touch on the bland side. On the other hand the brown stew curry was delicious. Every item was perfectly cooked. Two extremes to the order.

I will never order food from this restaurant. I ordered white rice with jerk chicken and oxtail gravy. Got the food and nothing but greasy. Terrible!!!!!!!!

I went in here for COLLARD GREENS. The worst i ever tasted. I was better off getting a can from shoprite. Why did it look like there was oil from oxtails in the platter. As if the cook cooks collard greens in the same pot as the oxtails. Smh need to do better. That was disgusting. collard greens full of oil.

Overall the food is good, but $24 for Shrimp Rasta pasta and you only get 6 pieces of shrimp and mountain high of pasta.

My Yoga Instructor friend and I visited this place on Saturday 3-12-19 just to chat after doing Yoga in celebration of the incoming of Beautiful Spring. The Restaurant is opened at 1:00pm on Saturdays so We were the first customers. Inside is very Comfortable and welcoming. The Bartender was very Courteous, Friendly and Warm and she was the waitress for the moment. We were treated very well. This is a Jamaican place with GOOD Jamaican Food. Just say a Taste of The Caribbean. Their variety of dishes contained: Fried Fish 🐟, Escovish Fish🐟 and Brown Stew Fish. The Brown Stew Fish 🐟 was My choice with Rice and Peas. My Friend choose Pasta. Our food was served to us very hot and we didn't have to wait long. We washed this down with their naturally made Fruit Juice and water. The Cooks were friendly. The overall atmosphere was very friendly and Yes 👍 I will visit there again. They do have Happy Hour on Fridays starting around 4or 5pm. They do have a room that can be rented if having a Birthday or Special Celebration. The Place is very clean and uniformed! Thanks to The Staff for a job well done. 💘💘💘 As Bob Marley would say "One LOVE ONE HEART LET'S GET TOGETHER AND FEEL ALL RIGHT" 💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘 I give Koten's a full 5 plus ONE LOVE 💘 SUCCESS

Amazing amazing food. Real nice staff. Real friendly and chill vibes. All those other negative comments have no merit — it’s a neighborhood place to eat, so don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t forget to check out the back dining area outside..... so nice and relaxing. Their house frozen Henry drinks are great!! Love them and usually have while waiting for the food outside.

Google
By far the worst Caribbean food I’ve ever had. The oxtails are horrible. The taste is ok but they are mostly bone and just look like regular beef. The rice is very dry. I asked for cabbage and got a few pieces. I asked for plantains and got a piece and half. I eat very small portions so I planned on sharing my meal but we had to order food from somewhere else. Very disappointing. I should’ve known because when I went in person for the rum punch I got served by a Spanish person. Lmao. When this location was RUSTY’S the food was great. Either fire the cook or shut the place down because this is NOT Jamaican food.

Google
I NEVER leave reviews anywhere but I just had to today. Living on Staten Island you are so limited to food options let alone GOOD Caribbean restaurants. I tried a Caribbean restaurant on the island and it disappointed me beyond belief. I didn’t give up and continued to research more restaurants on the island. Came across Koten’s and I am sooooo happy I found this gem. The food is so good, WELL SEASONED and the portions is fulfilling. I ordered take out however the atmosphere of the restaurant was so warm and welcoming that it makes me want to dine in next time. This place is worth the 25 minute drive! I def will be back!!!

Yelp
Trash don't even waste your money their beef patties are $5 but y'all aren't using fresh patty ingredients...you are buying food stamp grocery patties and selling at 4x the individual price. I've ordered in the past and had Rasta pasta, seems like a fake a-- Rasta made that pasta never again. I got my refund y'all thought your tactics was so cute . Learn to properly cook a meal before slandering Carribean food and I'm not even West Indian . Edit( VICTORY BLVD LOCATION)

Yelp
What's sad about this updated review is their food is actually good. After my first review I ordered again and they updated their ubereats menu to include an option for both plantains and cabbage instead of making you choose either or. I was very pleased with that. So I tried ordering a third time. I placed my order around 8ish. Everyone knows that on ubereats you place your order and if the restaurant confirms the status changes from waiting for the restaurant to confirm to the restaurant is preparing your food. Within minutes it changed. My estimated delivery time at first was 9:15. Then around 8:55 it changed to 9:10. 5-10 minutes later it went back to 9:25. All of this was taking place without me seeing a delivery partner assigned to my order. Once I realized I called customer support. The person I spoke with apologized and said they were going to check on my order, he came back on the phone couple mins later and said that my delivery partner was in fact at the restaurant picking up my food. GREAT right? Lol that's what I thought at first too. I literally got a call about five minutes later and mind you it's past 10 pm now, from the restaurant! I picked up the phone confused because I knew my food couldn't have gotten to me that quick and some girl says "hello, yeah this is Koten's, we don't have jerk chicken." I flipped my shit. I asked them why they waited almost two hours to let me know what I ordered wasn't available, and get this, they actually claimed that they never confirmed the order. How did my order update if it was never confirmed? Why was a delivery partner sent the location and order details if it was never confirmed? ALL Questions they didn't have answers to. They claimed they saw my order and didn't confirm it because they didn't have jerk chicken. And then the rude ass little girl who picked up the phone tried being slick and had the nerve to tell me "you can get something else that's the same price" and proceeded to tell me everything they DIDNT have. So instead of CANCELLING the damn order INITIALLY, they let it sit in their system, waited two hours to call me and let me know. They wasted my fucking time and left me with no other options because it was already past 10pm. They were unapologetic and quite rude if you ask me. Extremely unprofessional and to put it simply, they didn't give a fuck. Lord knows if it was the other way around it'd be unacceptable.

Yelp
If you actually want your food pick it up yourself. Waited and hour and a half spent almost 60 bucks just for my food not to be delivered. Instead of them delivering the missing entire missing dinner the suggested I pick it up which I can't because I'm putting my baby to bed or get a refund for the missing food. Great customer service and attention to detail. Obviously if the food was almost 60 bucks there's more then 1 item.

Yelp
So we ordered the Rasta pasta with oxtails, and the curry chicken roti. The Rasta pasta was trash. The sauce was thick and dry and the put riccota cheese. This is an absolute no no when making Rasta pasta. The oxtails taste good but barely any meat mostly all bones. The roti the chicken was ok but the roti skin was soggy and doughy. Sad to say every West Indian restaurant out here in Staten Island is trash. SMH.

James B.

Yelp
Great Place vibes food Staff and music.food is delicious must try oxtail rice and peas on Staten Island.

Krystal S.

Yelp
I gave two stars because the chicken roti wasn't bad at all. Even though I never seen a roti with carrots. However, those people need to take a class in customer service. When I stepped in I got no "Good evening, how may I help you", nothing. They see you come in and they continue with what they are doing without even saying "One minute, I will be right with you", nothing. Then, I mean Covid is still a thing! I looked in the kitchen and saw NO ONE wearing a mask preparing food. The lady that packed my food didn't even have the courtesy to put a mask on. I always felt like Jamaicans can make the best fried chicken! Until I ate theirs. Horrible, my fried chicken is better. The Mac and cheese was extremely salty and dry dry dry with no taste!! Waste of $6. The curry chicken was a little too salty as well. Bottom line is, I will NEVER support this business again until I hear they hire a new cook and improve their attitude towards PAYING customers. I would rather drive to Brooklyn for authentic Jamaican food, cuz I don't know what this was. The Jamaicans in BK be having attitude too but the food is bomb and make you forget. This restaurant has horrible customer service and the food ain't all that. Gotta choose one. Fail! This must be 3rd generation Americans born to Jamaican parents claiming to be Jamaican. Smh.

Yelp
Horrible soggy overcooked greasy tasteless overpriced food that came 2 hours late never again I try to support my community but that was disgusting and so not worth the price

Antoinette M.

Yelp
My friend and I went here some months ago. Service an food very good. Glad you have this near me. Cant wait to go back.

Carol F.

Yelp
We ordered via Uber Eats and the food was hot, well packed, and most importantly, delicious. So glad we found a great Caribbean restaurant as our go to.

Edward M.

Yelp
Nope, never again. This place is the epitome of unreliable, and unprofessional. How is it you have a restaurant that's never open, no one answers the phone, and worst of all conveniently not take other forms of payment but cash because there "credit card machine is broke", again?!? Really?!? Bye Felicia. I'll go elsewhere to spend my money.

Mia A.

Yelp
This review is for a experience I had back in January 2020. I wanted to support this back because it's black owned but they really gotta do better. Came here with a friend for lunch and was treated like we were interrupting them or bothering them. My friend and I originally wanted to order the goat curry but they were out. We both ordered chicken curry with extra gravy. We didn't receive any extra gravy. The waiter never came back to see if we were okay or if we needed anything else, mind you we were the only ones in the restaurant. The curry it self lacked flavor and spice, as if they barely put any curry powder in the dish.

Aleisha F.

Yelp
Delivery time was decent, food was hot and good. It could have used a little more salt but overall the flavors were definitely there. I got the curry chicken, rice and peas and plantain. Would recommend and absolutely would order again.

Bri J.

Yelp
Definitely one of the only spots on Staten Island with real carribean cooked food! Drink specials, Weekend vibes and seminars during the week .... if it wasn't for Kotens there wouldn't be any carribean spots to lounge at on Staten Island

Joshua J.

Yelp
The food was delicious and well seasoned! I thought the oxtail was delicious and tasty with a nice sauce. The rice and peas were also flavorful. I highly recommend this restaurant for some good Carribean cuisine

Vanessa V.

Yelp
I received uncooked, raw and bloody jerk chicken. The meat on the outside was cooked however the meat on the inside was not. I almost nearly bit into it which would have made me sick. The rice and peas was bland with little taste. I called the restaurant and they told me someone will call me back to replace the order and I never received a call back. Overall horrible experience and they forgot my ginger ale as well

Mike V.

Yelp
Had the "food" here and won't make that mistake again. Waste of money and sorry I tried it.

Alyssa H.

Yelp
DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR MONEY. Worst service ever. I ordered online and waited 4 HOURS to receive my food. They didn't answer the phone (I called 3 different times) and I even sent them a message on their IG to try and find out what was going on. No answer. It's sad when you try to support local businesses and they treat their customers this way. This is my first and last time ordering from this place.

Brandel G.

Yelp
Highly disappointed after hearing good things but clearly service isnt a strong point for this place after waiting an hour for my over priced jerked salmon which was over cooked the yams out the can that they charge 4 dollars for this place is horrible i wouldn't feed it to my dog

Kristen S.

Yelp
The seasoning is authentic, my compliments to the chef. I'm so glad they're on the island. And, even happier they're right up the road from me!

Diane E.

Yelp
Had noticed this new Caribbean Restaurant in the neighborhood so I stopped in during Happy Hour. The drinks took me back to Jamaica. The Rum Punch is on point. Def coming back

Asia B.

Yelp
I can say so many good things about this restaurant, that it's hard to know where to begin. Let's start wit the food, it's incredible! I've had the curry chicken and the curry goat so far and neither have disappointed. The plantains are always sweet and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend has had the island pasta and chicken several times and loved it! Today he had the curry goat and rice and peas, loved that as well. Second, the rum punch is so good and they definitely don't skimp on the alcohol! Third, the prices! Reasonable and with several portion sizes, you always get the right amount of food. Last but not least, the service! The first time we went, there werea few young women working and every one of them were pleasant, friendly, and smiling. Today, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Tanisha and I can see why her staff is so good because she's setting an awesome example. I wish I had pictures of the food to post but I always eat it way too quickly, maybe next time!

Alexandria R.

Yelp
The food is amazing but I've ordered from them twice and they always forget to bring my complete order. The second time they forgot to bring something, they wouldn't bring it but they'd give it to me the next time I came in. I can't be bothered. It's nice place and the food is the best I've had in a long time but it isn't worth it due to their inability to look over orders before they get sent out.

Alexis R.

Yelp
Good food and reasonable price. Got the jerk chicken lunch special. Definitely going back

Annette T.

Yelp
Giving it one star because the loud music and drunk patrons that spill out into the street. It's disgusting to hear them fight and wake up my kids. Should not be apart of this residential area with families and children.

Evelena J.

Yelp
Good food and good vibes ordered the island pasta and it was delicious but for $8 extra you only get 5 shrimp and its already $12 just for pasta and sauce that's my only complaint. Its good to have some west Indian food on staten island.

Johna L.

Yelp
First time eating here and the food was good except for the Macaroni and Cheese, it was horrible!! Ordered Oxtails meal and the portion size was good not like most Carribean restaurants where they charge you $15 and put 3-4 oxtail on the plate. I would eat here again just not the Macaroni and cheese. Would have given more stars if the Mac n cheese was better

Atiya W.

Yelp
The wait time is to long for food I am up the street from them and had to wait over an hour. Also I made it appoint to tell them it was for mentally disabled people and they have a certain lunch time. It was not even consider this sucks
