"Open for: Breakfast, lunch, and dinnerPrice range: $$Iconic soul food diner Kountry Kitchen opened in 1988 and became known for its star-studded clientele, including Hoosier native and musician Babyface Edmonds, comedian Mike Epps, and then-Senator Barack Obama. When the restaurant burned down in 2020, fans worried it was lost to the history books, but the restaurant team rebuilt in the same footprint. Gone are the uneven wooden floors and windowless dining room, replaced by a glistening full bar and an event space for 500 people. But the menu includes the same great dishes, such as fried green tomatoes, rib tips, neck bones, and roast beef Manhattan (a sandwich of roasted chuck, mashed potatoes, and gravy).Best for: Multi-generational family meals." - Brian Garrido

First time here and this place is absolutely a true gem! The service was amazing and the staff is super friendly! I started with the deviled eggs with maple bacon and these were super tasty! I had the catfish fillets and honestly they are some of the best I've ever had. Cooked perfectly and the breading is phenomenal. The mixed greens were super tasty and the cornbread was also very good. I was hoping for a little more out of the mac and cheese but honestly the catfish was so good that everything else could have been horrible and I'd still be happy. Wonderful atmosphere and I will definitely be back for more!

The food was absolutely delicious! We were seated quickly and got drinks quickly as well. It did take a bit of time for the food to come out and to get the check, but it was very busy (Saturday night). The chicken and waffles were so good and I highly recommend as an appetizer (you could eat as a meal too honestly). The mashed potatoes and fries as a side was great as well. The cornbread FANTASTIC. Only wish was that we could have been served and checked on a little more!!

I visited Kountry Kitchen after receiving a referral, and I was highly impressed. The restaurant's ambiance was delightful, and the cleanliness was exceptional. The food quality was outstanding; it was both amazing and fresh. The customer service was excellent, but the owner's personal interaction elevated the experience. I strongly recommend trying the yams and greens.

Google
So let me start off by saying I ordered this online, I believe it's what they consider a combo, which was 2 fried chicken wings, A slice of meatloaf, collard greens, dressing, and I added an extra side of mac and cheese. Overall, the food looked decent, The chicken wings were decent but really didn't have a lot of flavor, but that can be acceptable. The macaroni and cheese seemed like it came directly out of a box. It was dry, with no real cheese flavor. The meat loaf was probably the tastiest thing. I'm not a fan of the ketchup glaze or whatever it was, I prefer gravy, but this one was fine. The biggest issue is the fact that maybe because I ordered it online It told me the food would be ready by 8:26PM, I arrived 10 minutes early. I asked one of the wait staff about my order, which she asked me my name and said she'd look into it, but 10 or 12 minutes later, I'm standing there and she's still dealing with people in the restaurant which is fine, I wouldn't expect her to stop doing her job just to accommodate me when you have other staff standing around not dying much, coming in. After the 10 or 12 minute, wait. Another representative saw me standing there and asked if I had been helped where she went back and grabbed my food and gave it to someone else who brought it to me. Now I'm not a resident of Indianapolis, but where I'm staying is about 5 minutes away from the restaurant so once I get back home, take the food out of the bag everything is pretty much cold like it had been sitting for a long time prior to me getting there plus the time it waited. So I'm not really sure if it's the restaurants fault or whatever app they're using for their online services is maybe overestimating how long the food should take. But I think in cases like this, a telephone call or text letting the customer know the food is ready could be helpful because in my case, even though I showed up 10 minutes earlier, I was in their parking lot 10 minutes prior to that now, in all honesty, you can track your food through the app, but I think it's just as inaccurate. So in my opinion the food really doesn't stand out in any way. It's food. It tasted fine just not a lot of flavor I will say, the collard greens were kinda salty but that could just be because it's the end of the night, the dressing didn't have much flavor It just tasted like dressing. I've already commented on Mac and cheese and the chicken, which was also partially soggy

Great atmosphere and very quaint. Overall good “soul” soul food. Do not be afraid to try something new here. I got the catfish with yams and fried okra. It was very delicious and battered perfectly. The yams were perfectly sweet and tender. The catfish had good “river” flavor if that’s what you like in your catfish. My partner got the veggie burger. It was alright. Basic vegetarian options. Service was a bit slow, but it is a small place and I personally do not mind posting up for a while. Definitely worth a try, not to die for though.

I went for the first time yesterday during lunch and got a to go order of the Beef Manhattan and a side of greens. It was AMAZING! Leslie was so sweet. Today I met my wife there for lunch and had the meatloaf, yams, mac & cheese, and cornbread and LOVED it! Their sweet tea is also wonderful! I don’t remember our servers name today but she was sweet, too! The vibe in there reminds me of being with my friends back home. Everyone is so friendly, patrons and staff, and I just feel welcome and happy at Kountry Kitchen. I’ll be back soon!

Google
Ordered the shrimp and grits from DoorDash one time because my usual place closed down. So so good! The second time I wanted to place an order, I noticed that the photos on DoorDash weren’t great so I was curious to see the type of place I was ordering from in person. This is a gorgeous building, beautiful atmosphere. The people there are friendly and happy. The food was fantastic, and my takeout was out in less than 10 minutes. They also have a full service bar 🙌🏾

I must say, me and the family had an amazing time. We were able to be seated upon arrival. Ordered a few adult drinks which was delicious also they didn't give us a small cup. Food came out hot and ready to eat. Certified check it out!!!

Yelp
Stopped into this Indy staple for lunch while downtown for the day. While I've made a visit many years ago, this was my first time to the newly remodeled restaurant and it was stunning inside! Leslie was our waitress and was incredibly kind. I ordered a sweet tea (it was made fresh) and their fried chicken meal with greens, sweet potatoes and an extra side of mac & cheese. My friend ordered their neck bones dinner with two sides too. He loved it! The greens and fried chicken were as delicious as I remembered - well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I will pass on the Mac & cheese though, it was okay and was more stove top than southern baked. I am only giving this 4/5 stars due to the mac, the cornbread, and the cost. After tip, our lunch meal came to $70. LorT that's a lot for a lunch, a soul food one at that. I was glad the service was so good and I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a nice sir down soul food joint in Indy - it's a Circle City staple.

Yelp
First off, be prepared to wait--a long time wait. Especially on Sundays. I waited 20 minutes to be seated and then an extra 10 minutes just to be served. Their flow seems lost, very unorganized. I feel that with the remodeling, the dine in area should be a bit bigger. Everyone was standing around the very small bar area to place takeout orders, food delivery pickup. That should be in a separate area so there's not so much congestion when you walk in. The food was subpar. I didn't care for my burnt meatloaf, but my yams and Mac and Cheese was good. Could it have been better? Yes, but I kinda understand when you have a crowd. The lemonade was awesome as always! In short, maybe avoid coming here on Sunday afternoons to avoid the post church crowd and come during the weekday when it's quieter and calm.

Yelp
Kountry Kitchen reopened in October 2023 after a fire. During the NBA Allstar game in February 2024, the restaurant was highlighted on television. I finally made it to Kountry Kitchen 13 months after the grand reopening with a friend. She's a Soul Food aficionado. It was worth the wait. Walking in, the interior is updated with murals of celebrities with ties to Indianapolis in the foyer. The food was plentiful and tasty. Our server was fantastic and he came back to check on us several times. The large picture window looking out toward College Avenue let a lot of natural light into the restaurant. We didn't have a drink this time. There is a well-stocked bar for future visits.

Yelp
I've been here for a few events over the summer and have had a blast each time. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and hilarious, and the service is always great - especially given we had large groups. Be sure to check out the new event venue and rooftop space.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Kountry Kitchen is a soul food standard in Indy. They are known for their variety of down home main dishes and sides, all with a comfort food emphasis. Everything we tried was good and well seasoned. The rib tips, pot roast, fried corn, cabbage, yams and black-eyed peas were tasty. Each dinner came with corn bread which was light and buttery. The location is recently rebuilt as a fire destroyed the original building. The dining room seems much smaller than before and it appears that much of the location is set up as a banquet hall. When we were there, the service was on the slow side as the place was very busy. I will tell you the food was definitely worth the wait. They seem to do a lot of take out service and that is probably the route I would take next time. Just know that however you experience Kountry Kitchen, you will be glad you did.

Antionne J.

Yelp
Since 2013 I have had the same experience on 3 separate occasions. This business and staff are Inattentive irritated. They are complaining and flustered while not filling orders. Staff are not focused on order accuracy, unable to operate pickup software, atmosphere always feels rushed and Non-inviting, food is subpar in comparison with Tupelo Honey Restaurant! Don't waste your money or time. They may be more successful as a carry out only or ghost kitchen establishment so they don't have to interact with customers.

Jada W.

Yelp
I visited Kountry Kitchen for the first time at their newest location. I initially wanted to dine in, but the restaurant was quite full, likely hosting a few large parties. So, I opted for carry out instead. Torn between two proteins, I chose the Meal Combo plate, which includes two proteins and two sides. I selected a catfish fillet and two chicken ($1 extra) wings with yams and macaroni and cheese ($1 extra). The catfish was crispy and golden, just like my grandmother's. However, the chicken wings were fried too hard, making them difficult to enjoy. The yams were very sweet with a noticeable brown sugar flavor, and the macaroni and cheese was creamy but lacked flavor. My meal was just okay this time, but I'll give it another try when I'm in the area again.

Kim M.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, genetically I have an arm made for cooking. #IYKYK That being said, it hurts my heart to review this restaurant with a less than 4 star rating. On this visit, I had 4 wings, Mac and cheese, cornbread dressing. My wings were fried in old grease. Both the color on the coating and the flavor denoted this. They were edible, but with a hint of grease flavor. The Mac and cheese was made at the stovetop and not baked, which is my preference. The flavor was good, but I prefer baked and it was also warm, not hot, almost as if it was scooped out of a pan and heated in a microwave to knock the chill off. The dressing was drier than I prefer. It was a true cornbread dressing, but I add a little razzle dazzle to mine to give it a creamier taste and texture. I'm not chef, but the daughter and granddaughter of Mississippi Delta farm raised home cooks. I love a good soul food meal and I used to love this establishment. Something was off on my visit and I just can't put my finger on it. The service was excellent! We had Brandy as our waitress. She was kind and attentive, she was quick and efficient. Brandy is an asset to the staff there.

Tatiana C.

Yelp
Of course I had to get some more catfish but this time I did 3 pieces. The greens are a hit like always! The catfish is nice and crispy! Mmm

Johnny L.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the seafood combo that I got which had catfish, shrimp, and corn bread, with green beans and mixed greens as my sides. Corn bread is hit or miss for me, but this one was great! The only downside was that it took our group of 3 a while to get our food, but we weren't in a rush. I'd probably opt to order online and pick it up the next time I'm in Indianapolis.

Cassi S.

Yelp
my boyfriend has been trying to get me to come here for months and we finally got a chance to go tonight. When we first arrived we stood at the hostess stand for 10 minutes before we were greeted. Then continued to wait another 20 minutes before being seated. There were several open tables while we were waiting and most of the staff on the floor were moving slowly and carelessly. We sat at our table for 20 full minutes with no service. NOTHING! Not even an offer for a glass of water. They continued to sit two other parties around us as well. The food being served to the other tables looked fabulous so I am sure that is fantastic. But the hospitality and service is awful. We left frustrated and HANGRY

Yelp
I've been in the service industry for almost 20 years. And the two things I care about the MOST when I go out to eat, is the SERVICE, and the QUALITY of the food. (Prettiness is key too, but sometimes good food can come outa anywhere) Yesterday was my first time visiting Kountry kitchen. (I have a huge family and they've been here multiple times, but I had no idea what to expect.) I can confidently say though, my expectations were absolutely BLOWN away when I realized what jewel this restaurant is. Firstly, it is GORGEOUS! They have a lil bar, the paintings and pictures are so unique. I enjoyed the ambiance very much. The service was also awesome, the people were so pleasurable, and I really appreciated it. Loved Tanisha very much, and our server (I can't recall her name) was great too. Awesome people. But the food... The food... guys... it was INCREDIBLE!!! The food was so good, that I would've served that hot honey chicken to Jesus if he came by my house to say hi. When I started breaking apart the chicken, the freshness and juiciness of the meat, steamed and dripped down my fingers... when I dipped the chicken into the hot honey and tried it, my eyes watered. The seasonings in all of the sides were PERFECT. (I only needed hot sauce and vinegar for my greens.) I could NOT stop eating that chicken. The owner came by to ask us if we were enjoying the food, and when I found out who she was, I IMMEDIATELY shook her hand and let her know, this food was made with REAL LOVE! You could legit TASTE the love in the food, like a seasoning. I was HAPPY and full after my meal at Kountry Kitchen, and I just wanted to get in here to tell y'all about it too. 10/10 recommend.

Greg W.

Yelp
Honestly Shaq sent me but now I'm sending you? Kountry Kitchen is a legendary spot, you'll see homage paid to many notable people who have visited including President Obama. Pretty cool, but how's the food. Everything is your standard soul food, I believe at a premium cost but worth it for the legacy and the quality. Seating is a bit tight but in a way it adds to the charm. I had the combo meal which is an excellent value if you're looking to try a couple of things at one go. Meatloaf is nice, incredibly juicy and just the right amount of ketchup on. The chicken wings are crisp, break apart with ease and once you dig in you taste the seasonings and the tender meat inside. Fried Okra is as good as it gets, what a treat.

Denise H.

Yelp
I joined a friend for lunch today and my food was disappointing. I ordered whole fried catfish. It wasn't steaming hot, and it was kind of hard. Green beans and black-eyes peas were average. It will probably be awhile before O return.

Courtny M.

Yelp
First thing first ! I would recommend take out. We came here for Father's Day there were about 5-6 tables seated , all with no food. Take out orders moved out the whole time. We waited about 1hr and 20 minutes for food after ordering. I'm not sure what happened but the food was great. We were starving. It seems as if they cater to take out. Lemonade is $6 now it does include refills but that is kinda pricey. The rebuild looks great. They just have to do better with balancing the orders. Or tell people when seated there will be a wait. If the food wasn't so good it my eating would be a 3

Porshia M.

Yelp
We went for brunch (only Saturdays and sundays til 2) and we both got the same thing. We thought the b&g was good and a great size. The potatoes were too greasy and needed a tiny bit of seasoned salt. Overall, the prices were reasonable and we left satisfied.

Amy F.

Yelp
If I'm in nap, I'm going to country kitchen period. Wishing there was one in Arizona right now. The food is damn

Ashley J.

Yelp
The new spot is beautiful! My son and I visited on a busy Sunday afternoon and were seated quickly. The collared greens and Mac were phenomenal. The chicken was good, but could use more spice and be a bit crunchier. We will definitely be back!

Kendal S.

Yelp
I, like most of the sports world, heard about Kountry Kitchen thanks to the legendary Shannon Sharpe. He said if you're in Indy, you *have* to go to Kountry Kitchen, so I did--and he wasn't wrong. This place has a great atmosphere, excellent service, and food that hits all the right notes. As always, I started with the fried chicken wing to gauge the quality, and after one bite, I knew I was dealing with something special. Both the fried chicken and the smothered pork chop were excellent choices for my two meats. The mashed potatoes and gravy? Full of flavor and a perfect pairing. Now, let's talk mac & cheese. I was skeptical at first--it didn't look like the kind I usually get excited about--but I was wrong. This mac & cheese was incredible! And then I saw jumbo shrimp on the menu and had to add some to the mix--they might have just stolen the show. Shannon was right--this place is a must-visit!

Michelle P.

Yelp
Came in to place an order. Waitress walked past did not greet me maybe because it's not her job but nor a friendly approach. The hostess directed me to the exit sign to place an order. Came back after 15 min and assisted the uber or other food services and told me she will be back. Waited another 10 min so I ordered online and it said my order will be ready in 16 min. It was ready a little late and that was ok. The food was not great and they left out my pie. I tried to call twice but no answer so I guess I loss $9 on it.

Mike J.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. Wide ranging menu and the owner and staff made you feel like family when you dine there.

Gelone B.

Yelp
I guess the OLD reviews don't count anymore! Anywho, it recently reopened after a large fire several years ago. Great ambiance with updated decor, although much smaller than the original restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive as always! There's now an event center, outdoor and rooftop dining. A new parking lot is also a plus at this new location. I must admit, I miss the neighborly, home feel of the old restaurant with the branded plates and glass jars filled with sweet tea and lemonade. Finally, the quality and flavor of my food was as good, if not better than that from the original restaurant.

Lin LiAnn W.

Yelp
I believe this place has a new location at the corner of 19th and College. Someone said their other location had a fire and they moved. This location is right on the street corner and visible from the street. There is only street parking from what I could tell and we lucked into a spot. When you walk up to the door there is a sign that tells you not to park on 19th street or you will get towed. We were one of 2 tables and it took a very long time for the server to come to us. I was worried that was going to be the tone of this lunch. Slow. I was pleasantly surprised that once our order was taken our food came out very fast. I'm torn between star ratings because the Mac and cheese was some of the best I've ever had but I really like my food hot. I got the smothered pork chop with mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese. The meal also came with corn bread. The pork and the potatoes were room temperature. The gravy was the only thing that kept the pork warm. Both the pork and potatoes had good flavor. The cornbread was dry but we asked for honey and they brought us a delightful honey butter that made up for the dryness. My friend got the fried chicken and it was piping hot. He chose the yams and green beans. He said the yams were good and the beans were okay in flavor but they were mushy. The water tasted horrible and there was a black speck floating at the bottom of my glass. I noticed I was the only one in the place who had water. Perhaps a sign? We went at 11:30 am and by the time we were done, the place was filling up. We didn't need the yelp reservation I had made but if you go at peak lunch time, I would suggest a reservation. I would definitely give this place a second try since my friends food was hot but it's not a cheap lunch. Fried chicken meal with a coke and tip was 29.00. I had the kids meal and it was 16.00 with tip. No left overs to take home.

Andre B.

Yelp
Good food Good service I just ordered the wrong item which is my fault Very nice establishment First time in Naptown so I enjoyed the service

Golda C.

Yelp
This place was beyond awesome! The food was scrumptious. The staff were fun and efficient. The atmosphere was pleasant and so clean you could eat off the floor!!

Brittany S.

Yelp
We were so excited to revisit Kountry Kitchen in their new location. We live walking distance from Kountry Kitchen and the only reason I don't go there more often is that I have zero self control when you throw me into a room filled with fried okra, chicken and mac and cheese ;) The new space is quite different from the original but it's impossible to recreate the original. They now have a liquor license, small bar and the building also houses an event space. I was surprised by how small the actual dining room is knowing how busy they tend to be. Our visit kicked off a little slow - we had to flag someone for a high chair and to request menus after we had been seated for more than 15 minutes. Once our server kicked off with us, everything was smooth from there. The food was amazing - I cannot rave about the fried okra and baked chicken enough. The meat was so tender and juicy. The okra was perfectly breaded (not too much and cornmeal forward). I sampled my pals meatloaf and it was also delicious. The cornbread makes for a perfect dessert Overall, a tasty and notable meal. Here's hoping the service gets some of the kink out. Can't wait for future visits!

Maliyka M.

Yelp
t is a small place so expect a wait to sit if it is busy. There are tables and booths. The deviled eggs (forgot to a get pic) was okay. The white needed a little salt but the filling was just okay. The soul roll, which was filled yams, greens and Mac and cheese was actually good. Go figure, the Mac & cheese was supposed to have 7-cheeses. I only tasted one and it wasn't cheddar. It was horrible and the entire table felt as much. It tasted like they used American cheese. The cabbage was good. The cornbread was cold that the butter never melyed. I tasted some of the dressing, it wasn't bad. The whiting was seasoned well but salty as all get out... high blood pressure in the making. The lemonade is sweeeeeet, like diabetes sweet but it helped cut the saltiness from the fish

Lisa H.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this delicious food! Great portions with great prices. The vibe in the restaurant is very comfortable and friendly. Our server, Leslie, was awesome and so attentive. We will definitely be coming back and bringing friends with us!

Jermania T.

Yelp
Did online order 25 min before arriving, when I arrived order still wasn't prepared , they gave about 12 door dashes before checking on my food still had to wait 20 more min and food set on shelf for at least 5-10 more min by the time I got my food it wasn't enough fresh anymore needless to say I'll pass food looked great online but service was horrible

Vic A.

Yelp
I have never had bad food from Kountry Kitchen. It's so good that I decided to buy the 20oz Mac and Cheese but for some reason this time it wasn't the same good flavor I was so disappointed. It taste like maybe they ran out for Thanksgiving and someone rushed to make more it wasn't Kountry Kitchen Mac and Cheese

Taffanee K.

Yelp
Now open in their new location. Same great food. Expect a wait because their grand opening is no secret. Go get your grub on. 1831 N College Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202

Yelp
We recently had the repast at Kountry Kitchen's event center side, following my mom's homegoing service. The KK experience reflected 3 of my mom's qualities: classy, delicious cook, and warm attentive service. The fried and baked chicken was flavorful down to the bone- without an oversalted artificial taste. Loved the fried catfish fillets. I highly recommend the fried corn, collards, and cabbage. Everthing was fresh, not oily, and well seasoned without pork and excessive salt. The chandeliers in the ballroom sparkled elegantly. The restaurant side is appealing, and modern. My mom loved the food at the old Kountry Kitchen. I think she smiled down from heaven to see friends and family enjoying great food and atmosphere in her honor. Several local and out of town guests said they look forward to going back. Thank you, Pat!

Courtney J.

Yelp
Country kitchen is great if you don't wanna have to dress up extremely, and you still want great service and high-quality food. I love the environment it's friendly and warm, and the flavors are ever present.

Ro W.

Yelp
The food was hot and fresh. The service was okay. I had a to-go order. The food was seasoned and flavorful. I'm vegetarian and could tell that they used fish or chicken seasoning for my fired green tomatoes. I was sick afterwards due to cross-contamination. It also tasted like the tomatoes were cooked in the same grease. I know every restaurant doesn't cater to vegan and vegetarians, but it would be nice if they had a separate batch of oil for people like me. While I was waiting for my food. A group left because one of the people had a fish allergy, and the restaurant couldn't accommodate having a separate batch of oil.

Kaleb G.

Yelp
Been meaning to try this place and finally did. This is hands down the best soul food I've ever had. Friendly staff and the new building is very nice. Def a must try if you have soul food on your mind!

Dorothy H.

Yelp
The food was fine, certainly not worth the inflated price though. I had ordered ahead 2 hours and when I got there I had to wait another 30 minutes. The service was abysmal, the waitresses didn't know what was going on, couldn't give time estimates, and were forgetting about entire groups waiting. The ambiance was alright. The physical location is too small for the amount of people waiting to sit.

Laura W.

Yelp
The food was sub-par! The service was disorganized. I couldn't wait to try this place after all the hype! I was so not impressed!

Leighton J.

Yelp
The food was excellent, my group enjoyed their wings, catfish, soul rolls, sides and more. Wings were very well seasoned. The only negative feedback I have is that the dine-in service was some of the worst I've had in Indy to date. I gave 3 stars b/c the food was a 5 and the service was 0, so I rounded up a bit to 3 stars because the food was that good. I'll be getting carryout from here on out. The restaurant should hire somebody to come in and do training for their service staff.

Sabrina C.

Yelp
If you are ever in the Indianapolis area you must stop by Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place. This restaurant has some delicious food and you will not be disappointed. They also have a bar and some people were having a drink and watching basketball. They have real soul food such as neck bones, oxtails, okra, fried green tomatoes, black eyed peas and more. I highly recommend this restaurant and give them 5 stars. A lot of celebrities dine here when they are in Indianapolis. Our hostess Taria had excellent customer service skills and we were pleased with her service. We will definitely return in the near future. The dressing was my favorite and the baked macaroni was her favorite

Aary W.

Yelp
I was able to go and dine at Kountry Kitchen and check out their new renovated Restaurant. The food was great, similar to how it was before they close down for a little bit. While the wait, that Friday evening, was a bit long, the servers were amazing, very accommodating and I got the food out as quick as possible. I would dine there again.

Strap N.

Yelp
Food is good. Customer service is trash. Lazy atmosphere. Food was very good though. Forgot a $17 entree I ordered also.

Lee W.

Yelp
I'll give the bad things first and then give you the goods. I was very disappointed in the Ambiance. It is so hard when an established place like the original Kountry Kitchen burns down. You'll never be able to replace that feel. That said the new construction is very sterile. The high ceilings while nice, just make the place look cavernous and I'm not sure that helps. I also think the lighting felt like fluorescent lites, very bright and a bit too white. A warmer color lights would be a nice change and a bit "dimmer" would also help. I wanted to check out more of the old photos of visitors and they were small and placed so high, impossible to see. Pull that history down a bit so people can appreciate it. The service for my table of 4 was perfect. Well paced and friendly as heck. They are very personable and lovely warm from greeter to wait staff. Ok the Good stuff, the food. Fried Bread.... OMG so delicious. The macaroni and cheese AMAZING. The greens were good, but just average. I had meatloaf... it was just OK, not as special as I had hoped. Maybe I built it up to much, but not as great as I would like. My partner had good rib tips they were also good but not amazing. Listen the food was good and I really enjoyed it, my table had a fantastic time.

Yelp
The service was exceptional and they really cater to you once you sit down. But the wait was ridiculous, we waited over an hour for subpar food. The food was too salty and inedible. I got the fried green tomatoes, catfish, shrimp and fries all too salty and too hard. I would definitely not recommend as a visitor to this great city. I gave it 3 stars for the great service but don't go if you are hungry.

Yelp
Love this place as always !!! The food is top notch and service is the best !!! These guys know how to treat you like royalty when eating here!!! Always so friendly and welcoming!!!! Didn't get the catfish this time. Went with the meatloaf and fried corn with okra. The new building looks very nice.

Yelp
I've been hearing lots of negative and positive things about the food so I had to go see for myself. The new place is smaller than I imagined but very beautiful. Service was fast for a busy day. We had a party of eight. Food was brought out hot. I ordered the pork chops & fried catfish. I also ordered garlic mash potatoes & fried corn. I ordered fried green tomatoes & a peach cobbler. Fish was just ok. Too thin of a filet. Pork chop was very thin and tough. Mash potatoes were dry & had no hint of garlic flavor. Fried corn tasted boiled, not fried. The things I loved was the cornbread, peach cobbler and fried green tomatoes. I tasted the fried wings and yams from someone else's order and they were very good. You can't go by what others think of the place. You must go and see for yourself. I'm going back now that I know what I enjoyed and I will order those things. Wish the order for fried green tomatoes were 8 or 10 slices vs four. Four is not enough for the price of them. Final note. Everyone at the table was expressing how high their prices are. I totally agree. My total price was over $50 for just me. Very high!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of trying this place when the older couple I companion care for wanted to try it. They are well-to-do, native New Orleanders, love soul food, creole and trying new places. The atmosphere is clean, modern, and comfortable. The photos on the wall and the mural near the front are a fun addition making it feel like home. As soon as we walked in, nobody else was there. I said aloud, "Let's find a table" and was quickly told, "I said wait a minute" by the waitress who appeared from around the corner. (clearly I didn't hear her) It was abrupt and set me back a little. The lady ordered the wings, cornbread dressing, yams; the gentleman ordered a hamburger and fries and I ordered yams and crab bisque. The yams and cornbread dressing were very good. The bisque was good but a little too salty. The burger and fries were your standard fare. A huge work group entered while we ate and had a great time. Our waitress was short, and slightly impatient with the elderly couple who asked questions and have some cognitive decline. Our meal was $65 and our tip reflected our service. A few weeks later, I returned with the lady who stopped by for a carry out order. She reported the same "rude" waitress was there and that she would not be returning. Overall, it was disappointing and I feel like a little quality control and people skills would go a long way.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed in my lunch today, I ordered what I thought was hot honey wings, (no honey) little packets of hot sauce ‍very bland, cold macaroni and cheese, cold okra corn bread was dry wasted my time and money

Yelp
Phew, rough night! Honestly, feels like a 1 star but this place also seems like an Indy staple so I didn't want to be too harsh in case I just happened to be there on a bad night...although after reading many other reviews, it looks like it may just be normal over there. Made a reservation for a Saturday night. Got there right on time, line out the door. Good sign, I though! (also, there's a sign on the door that says not to park on 19th St, even though the street isn't marked with any kind of no parking signs so I had to go move my car, which was annoying). Was seated. Waited over 30 minutes to even be greeted! No one said "hi" or brought us water or anything! Just hung out. We finally found someone to ask because we needed to order in time to make it to the theater. No one know who our server was, one person said she'd take our order but didn't have the electronic machine, one person said she'd write it down but didn't have a pen, another person said they didn't usually serve tables and worked in the back but they'd try to figure it out and on it went. The whole night went on like this. A comedy of errors. The food did arrived. Not impressed. Cornbread dressing was dry. Chuck roast had visible grease on top. Server didn't know how to split a check. It was a mess. Really, really poor customer service. Hope they're able to figure it out.

Yelp
** DO NOT EAT HERE ** I would give this review 0 stars if it was possible. We arrived around 4pm and were put on the wait list, it was just 2 adults and 2 kids. They were going to text us when our table was ready so we sat in the car because there is not much room to wait and we had 2 little kids and were told the wait would be an hour. We tracked our place in line and could see we were next. At the 2 hour mark we received the text that we were off the waitlist so we headed in and they told us we had to wait longer because they have a reservation for 20 people that they were needing to clear the space for and that they took priority over us. This was so frustrating on many levels, first they should've 100% said that up front before telling us it was going to only be an hour. But they made no effort to work it out and simply said "there's nothing we can do, it's going to be a longer wait for you before we can get you a table". As we were leaving we heard 2 other parties complain also and say they need to do a better job with their customer service. We have never ever had such a terrible experience.
