Montreal’s Best Greek Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"It took owners Angelis Sarbanis and Lampros Tsalamengas two long pandemic years to kick this Mile End grab-and-go location for Greek food off the ground, but once they did, it was quick to build a strong following. The Zebulon Perron-designed interior is sleek and the coffee is great, but the success is likely thanks to Niata’s menu of kotopita (chicken pie), spanakopita, Greek pasta dishes like pastitsio, desserts including a luxuriant baklava cheesecake, and menu." - JP Karwacki

New Mile End Spot Dishes Out Classic Greek Food | Eater Montreal

"Opened January 15 by Angelis Sarbanis and Lampros Tsalamengas, I saw they scrapped an initial sit-down plan because of the pandemic and turned the space into an épicerie-style, grab-and-go spot with a takeout fridge; the layout and signature terrazzo were designed by Atelier Zébulon Perron. The menu spotlights rustic Greek dishes they grew up eating—flaky phyllo pies such as kotopita (roast chicken, grilled veggies, and cheese), spanakopita layered with spinach and barrel-aged feta, and kreatopita (braised meat)—each priced $5.50–$6.50 (taxes included). On the sweet side there’s baklava cheesecake, chocolate chip halva cookies, and crunchy double-baked paximadia, and daily offerings include hearty soups, moussaka casseroles, and pastitsio (a baked ground-meat and béchamel pasta dish that Sarbanis insists is better than a 'Greek lasagna'). A small grocery section stocks imported products, including olive oil from Niata. Named after the village in Greece’s Peloponnese where Sarbanis’s family is from, the shop occupies the former La Crêpière at 221 St-Viateur West, currently has limited seating for roughly 10 at bar and window stools (not allowed right now), and is open Tuesday–Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m." - Valerie Silva

They have tons of vegetarian options like spanokopita (feta and spinach pie) and bougatsa (creamy custard pie) which my partner enjoyed. But they only had one or two dairy free options like stuffed bell pepper (with rice) and an onion dip. I hope for more dairy free options in the future.

I first stumbled into Kouzina Niata during a food tour with Local Montreal Food Tours and immediately felt like I’d found something special. The phyllo was flaky, the vibe was cozy, and everything had that homemade feel that just sticks with you. Fast forward to my second visit, this time as a plus one for my friend Sarah’s tasting, and it honestly made me love the place even more. Tucked in Mile End, Kouzina is a warm little family-run Greek shop that somehow feels like it’s been around forever (even though it’s only three years old). You come in for a bite, and next thing you know, you’re eyeing the freezer section like you’re planning meals for the whole week. They make their phyllo fresh in-house, and you can taste it. Crispy edges, buttery layers, soft centers… just everything you want in a savory pie. They also sell frozen versions to take home, along with olive oil, teas, dips, spreads, pantry goodies, and desserts. Basically, Greek comfort in a corner shop. And yes, I definitely took a mirror selfie in their big beautiful window mirror. How could I not? ✨ Here’s what I loved most: • Montrealopita (smoked meat pie) – my top pick. Local twist, traditional feel, rich and flavorful. • Kotopita (chicken & bacon) – came in second. So comforting and filling. • Spanakopita – a classic done well. Light, fresh, and not too salty. • Bougatsa – vanilla custard wrapped in phyllo, somehow cozy and delicate at the same time. • Freddo Cappuccino – medium sweet, super smooth. You know that tragic little moment when you stir it and ruin the masterpiece? Worth it. • Mango & Coconut Iced Tea – refreshing with a tropical vibe. Not too sweet, just enough. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Santorini before, and tasting these pies brought me right back to those warm afternoons with sea breeze, flaky pastries, and that slow, joyful pace of life. It’s amazing when a bite of food can do that. This visit was part of a comped tasting, but sharing my honest thoughts above. 🫶🏽 ✨ I spotlight my favorite local gems on TikTok @foxy.appetite and IG @foxyappetite Come hang out!

Google
What a wonderful gem! Beautiful selection of pastries, baked good, and traditional Greek food. The owner is very nice and welcoming and so was the lady that served me. I drank a very delicious frappe & Bougatsa, and I bought a few things as well. I will definitely be returning more often!

Google
To be honest, I didn't expect much, but the food turned out to be delicious. I highly recommend the moussaka; it is one of the best versions I have ever tried. I am surprised Google doesn't list it as an option for recommended dishes. The only minor thing I didn't like was taramasalata. It should be made with fish eggs, but I don't taste them in it at all. I also recommend Greek-style coffee; it tasted great. It would be even better if it would be served with water on a side.

Google
Easily the best spanakopita I’ve ever eaten, better than anything I had in Greece and the by far the best in Montreal. For a while, I’ve been noticing people coming out at the place with us slice, so I knew I had to try it and it doesn’t disappoint. Perfect amount of phyllo, spinach and feta, so it hits the spot. The people are very friendly, it has a cool and laid back atmosphere and it’s located right on the trendy Via Street. Excellent tzatziki as well! Highly recommend.

Google
5* everything. What a find!!! We came across it this afternoon and are so happy we went in. It's immaculately clean, the welcome was super nice and helpful, the choice of food is abundant and the quality is amazing. Everything is made there including the light as a feather filo pastry for the Spanakopita and other varieties. Totally authentic, delicious and a must. We'll be back very very soon. Thank you so much :-)

Yelp
By chance we parked in front of the Kouzina on our way to get the famous bagels down the street. Enjoyed 2 frappes bought some bougatsa for later and some honey for the house. Wish we found it sooner.

Yelp
This is a grab to go place. I tried a plate that consisted of a sausage, potato and other vegetables. It was good ! I would come back here again.
