The 38 Essential Berlin Restaurants

"What began as a cart in a Berlin market in 1959 is now ground zero for the definitive version of currywurst, Berlin’s uniquely funky sausage dish. This should come as little surprise, given that the snack bar’s founder was nicknamed the “curry professor.” Don’t pass on the ketchup; Krasselt’s makes its own house version, and it’s part of why this imbiss (fast food restaurant) soars above much of its competition. Plus, Krasselt’s doesn’t draw long lines of tourists." - Tim Forster

Google
One of 2 “Currywurst” locations in Berlin, where you get a good Typical Berlin CW, without and with skin, and a good portion of curry ketchup and tasty fries on top. Friendliness is very limited though, but hey, it is a CW-Stand. However, pricing fits very well, meeting Berlin average: 5,70€ for 2 Currywurst and fries. Recommendable

The food was really good, the best curry wurst I had in Berlin. The lady was very kind, hoping the come back again soon.

One of the most traditional currywurst imbiss places in Berlin after curry36. Having a option to choose either with skin or without skin. It is fun to try both. However, if you cannot speak German, you will be lost. 🤯 Only locals at there.

I know this place since the 80s and it was amassing looking people coming from all over West Berlin to enjoy the best Curry Wurst in town, with the own made Catsup and sausages. I was able to know two generations serving friendly in Berlin’s typical way 😂👍

Great currywurst with varying degrees of spiciness, perfect 😀

The sausage is amazing. But the sauce was way too sweet. I understand there might be an audience for this, but I prefer other places. Awesome it’s located at a supermarket though. Quick Currywurst before heading home is always good.

I used to drive pretty far occasionally to get the best Currywurst in town. I have moved to another country 24 years ago, nice to see that this place is still there.

Small location next to a grocery store, said to exist for 60+ years. Currywurst was pretty nice, although I had to order the spicy one because the homemade sauce is a little too much on the sweet side for my preference. Pretty weird that they just cut the sausage in halves and then put a wooden stick in it - makes eating it quite a potential mess. The Currywurst alone would have been a solid 4/5. Unfortunately, I ordered Pommes and a cold drink with my Currywurst, both of which were a bad idea. The drink was warm (seems like they dont sell cold ones or at least not what i ordered) and the Pommes were really bad - tasted like they were hours old.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place!!! My husband is a Berliner and I'm a Texas girl & when he brought me here to try currywurst for the first time I didn't like the look of it, but damn I loved the flavor!! Amazing stuff and we do not eat it any where else because it's just substandard compared to Krasselt's!!! They are nice to us every time we come and even remember us even when it's been a year or two between visits (living in the USA now)! Most people know that you don't go to Europe for the Customer Service (because they don't know what that is..lolol... sad to say), so if you're snotty to them... they are gonna give it right back to you!! You also have to understand that they get so much business that they just don't have that much time to chit chat!! My favorite is the Curry mit darm und pommes, bitte! With EXTRA spiced Zwiebeln (my favorite)!!!

Yelp
NOT really recommable anymore. The staff has a very negative altutude and is not service oriented at all. The qualty of the food is just not up to standard.

Yelp
Was ist currywurst, you ask? And what is the secret of its success here in Berlin? Beats me. Just look at this ridiculous recipe: Take 2 tablespoons of ketchup and mix it up with teaspoon of curry powder. Serve it over one cooked hot dog cut into sections (on wax paper), sprinkled with curry powder and paprika. Add a portion of French fries and a Brötchen (roll). And a Bier. No, make that two Bier(s), please. Huh? That's it? Well, no, not really. Every curry tastes different and every Currywurst aficionado experiments with his or her own particular curry mixes and additional secret sauce and spicing combinations. But the secret will remain unfathomable to you unless you actually go out there and try an original. And if you want the original, don't hesitate to try out Krasselt's, Steglitzer Damm 22, Berlin Steglitz. Krasselt's claims to serve the best Currywurst in town. I can't say that it does, but I can say that it's the best I've ever had. And the place must have something going for it being that it's been in business for over forty-five years now. Its secret recipe includes, among other things, sweet red peppers, Worcester sauce and homemade ketchup. But they won't go into detail, of course. This stuff really is something to rave about. There's always a line here, but you never have to wait long. And they usually stay open until midnight, too. Don't miss it.
