Bistro by Regina Montium

"Whether you hike up or take the mountain railway (ideal from Vitznau), it's well worth stopping off here. The location is idyllic – at 1 550m above sea level, the terrace is wonderful – and the "natural cuisine" is another big attraction! This includes smaller plates and regular dishes such as Rigi beef ragout or burger with Alpine cheese, many of which are made with produce from the immediate vicinity or grown in their own garden. Individual ingredients are explained in a friendly and competent manner. Why not try a gentian root tonic with Rigi juniper gin before dinner? Both the Bistro, for lunch, and fine dining restaurant, Regina Montium, for dinner, are located in Kräuterhotel Edelweiss, where you can stay overnight after your meal." - Michelin Inspector

What a delight it is to climb the mountain and indulge in the gastronomy of Kräuterhotel Edelweiss, which is tradition-conscious, but not traditional — regional, pure, seasonal, and authentic. As a vegetarian, I am thrilled to describe my experience there. What I experienced is something unique in terms of flavors. I never expected to have so many senses activated in a non-vegetarian restaurant. The regional foods, many harvested directly from the hotel’s own garden, are presented as true works of art on the plate. A sensational and unique experience.

Had lunch at the Michelin 1 star restaurant. Vegan with no oil option is the only bio salad with condiments of their self made herb salt and balsamic vinegar. The waitress recommended rigi cola made by their own which is unique and tastes great.

I selected this hotel to celebrate my husband's birthday, convinced by Monika P. via email and phone that it would be a fantastic experience. However, the moment we arrived, it became evident that we were in for a disappointing stay. The hotel was in desperate need of renovation, displaying signs of aging and emitting musty odors. Our reception by Pietra was unwelcoming and cold; she did not provide directions to our rooms. Throughout our time there, we felt as though we were intruding on a community and were not genuinely welcome. When I requested a different table for dinner, as the one assigned was positioned by the entrance, Pietra's response was dismissive and lacking in customer care. She seemed distant and disinterested. Faced with this dreary and unsettling atmosphere, we decided to depart. Pietra, in a brisk manner, instructed me to settle everything (680 CHF), tapping her hand on the table. To expedite our departure, I found myself settling the bill for the dismal room, the uneaten dinner to be served near the corridor, and the uneaten breakfasts. My advice: run away!

When you check-in, the condescending person at the reception does not deign to indicate where the room is. The staff area is a mess and everyone has a blank stare. Generally, they play hippies but behave like arrogant, judging, non-customer friendly people. E g. we asked for a table change for a special occasion and the answer was a hard no without even trying to be nice. We left and they had us pay the full dinner and the room (700chf) albeit us not consuming anything. It's a horrible place with a very weird atmosphere. The answers from the owners on the negative comments are really telling about their mindset. Go ahead and be disrespectful to me, this won't change the fact that you should not be in the service industry.

My family and I were guests at this hotel last year. The hotel is not a fancy 5 star sort of hotel but i would think many 5 star establishments would envy this wonderful hotel for its hospitality and Michelin-star restaurant. I highly recommend this hotel. This year we couldn’t stay here because they were sold out. We visited one night for dinner. Wow and wow, the root vegetables with smoked hollandaise sauce and polenta is uniquely delicious. The homemade cocktails are refreshing. The carrot tartar with sunflower seeds and sourdough cream was light and fresh. We had to run out of the restaurant without dessert (or so we thought) to catch the train. We didn’t want to miss the train because the next train was 3 hrs later. To our big surprise our lovely waitress ran behind me on the walkway to the station, on icy ground, no jacket, balancing a tray with our dessert and port wine. Yes, she served us dessert on the train. She asked the kind conductor to return our tray back to the station on his way back. We obviously shared the dessert with our train conductor. It was an amazing, unforgettable dinning experience.

Located near the top of mount Rigi, this hotel is most comfortable and its restaurant is absolutely delightful! The gourmet menu is delicious and is almost exclusively made of local products. The team is both friendly and professional, the wine pairing is amazing, and everything and everyone conspire to make your stay an unforgettable one! Incredible!!!||We will come back as soon as we can!

This hotel is on high mountain and was probaly a former Farmer house. We can not expect luxus ambient here. The view on lakes is unbeatable. The staff took well care of us, their behavior was flawless. The michelin restaurant is not even expensive, considering the 13 exquisit dishes they presented. It was a valuable and special experience we made here.

On our way back from hiking, we stumbled upon hotel Edelweiss and first thing we saw, was a large beautiful herb, vegetable garden. The hotel looked to be in a great location, so we decided to extend our two days off for one night and try the cuisine. We weren’t sorry. Food is really very good. Just the glimpse of the (1 page) menu tells you, everything is fresh. The demonstration, the story and decoration deserves big thumb up. But then there is a view too. Plus all is Swiss - food is produced, grown or caught in Switzerland, they have their own water, they make their own brandies and wine is Swiss. I highly recommend it. |The only thing to change is to make at least coffee available for people that raise before 8.
