Worst customer service in my life. The general staff came across as great: friendly, respectful, conscientious, considerate. The issue I had was with a manager, without a name I have to describe him : middle-age, pot-bellied, red hair, facial hair, curly hair, black shirt.
I initially came into this grocery/restaurant because the restrooms at Nekter Juice Bar—where I was a customer at—were out of order. I explained this to the cashier at Kris who told me I had to buy something in order to have access to the restroom. This was around 1:30pm. I ordered a slice of pizza and was given the code. I entered the restroom only to leave seconds later having realized I had left my AirPods Pro at Nekter Juice Bar. This took about five to ten minutes to leave, retrieve my AirPods, return to Kris, and enter their restroom again. Not even one minute later I heard rapping at the door with an authoritative and irritated voice telling me to get out. I told them to wait a minute because I had just undone my pants to use the toilet. The rapping and demands were incessant and despite assuring him I just needed one minute to leave.
What I later found out was a manager—not the owner, as my purpose in writing this is either another manager or the owner of the store will see this, not this particular manager who was clearly out of line, bizarre, and incompetent—had received a complaint from a customer about waiting to use the restroom.
What had likely happened is this customer had tried to use the restroom either during the twenty seconds or so I was there previously or even earlier while another customer was using it. They apparently had left to wait somewhere else not knowing the restroom has been vacant for some time, unaware that I or another customer had left. When they tried to use the restroom again, from their perspective, it was still in use, and per their presumption, occupied by the same person. This is what I guess was related to the manager.
Even if the customer’s misconception was true, the level of aggression, rage, and erratic behavior was utterly unacceptable. Truth of the matter was that I hadn’t been in the restroom longer than a total of two minutes, even if you conflate the two brief moments I was there broken by the interim in which I retrieved my AirPods. It is not my responsibility that this customer decided not to pay very close attention and make presumptions.
I calmly and rationally explained the relevant and basic details this to the manager while regularly being interrupted by his abuse, expressions of rage, and insults. When I finally got to finish, he seemingly agreed albeit reluctantly, stalking me back to the restroom while continuing his tirade of abuse as well as making threats e.g. if I find any “dope” (his words not mine) I’m calling the police, and so on.
If there wasn’t such a lack of access to restrooms in downtown San Diego and I had not already purchased food just to use their restroom I would have left as soon as I encountered his abuse, rage, and bizarre behavior.
How someone as incompetent and with people skills this poor managed this position I don’t know. Sometimes when people are given power they change and their real character is revealed. This was the last and one of my only remarks I made to him as I left.
I felt totally disgusted, disrespected, and will never step foot into Krisp again because of my experience with this person which was ultimately outrageous, bizarre, and abusive.
