14 Treasures of Fisherman’s Wharf Food and Drink Scene

"One of the few stand-alone Krispy Krunchy locations that isn’t embedded inside a gas station convenience store, this Southern-style fried chicken chain has been a welcome addition to the Wharf. Well-seasoned, unfailingly crunchy skin — hence the name — and sweet honey biscuits are the hallmarks here." - Eater Staff, Laura Smith Borrman

This amazing little fried chicken joint is easy to get to, right across from the SkyStar wheel at Fisherman's Wharf. There aren't any seats, and the place is often blocked by the hop on hop off tour buses. They have a small but tasty menu. The fried chicken krunch box came out hot, packed with flavor, and juicy. The cole slaw was creamy and nicely seasoned. The double decker burger was a big burger that will definitely hit the spot. All in all, if you're looking to grab a great meal to go, this place is absolutely worth checking out.

Google
I was looking for a quick bite around the area and decided to check this fried chicken place out. I ordered the 8 Piece Dark and I was given 4 drumsticks and 4 thighs. I brought it back to my hotel room to savour and I was impressed! The chicken lived up to it's name gloriously! Krispy..excuse me...crispy and supremely crackly! It was not overly salty yet very tasty. The meat was moist and the accompanying packets of hot sauce went well with the excellent pieces of fried chicken. I would say it's worth every single cent! The lady who served me was full of smiles and very friendly. The shop was small, but it was well laid out and pleasant. I had my food very promptly and I had nothing negative to say about my experience. I'll definitely be back again another time! Thanks for the wonderful meal!

Google
The chicken was delicious just like any other restaurant that they own! The chicken was crispy and juicy and flavorful all in a single bite! The skin is super crispy and the meat inside is juicy and tender! The chicken is also delicious, so are the sides! Highly recommend for an inexpensive and delicious crispy chicken option! They also had a very cool mascot outside this location which I liked a lot! This location was also really new, and seemed refurbished or opened not a long time ago!

Google
Got pulled in by the smell of their fried chicken and decided to try. Very generous portions and huge wings and drumsticks for the 3 pcs chicken set with biscuit! Was surprised at how moist and juicy the meat was despite it not being fried to order. The batter was crispy but a tad over seasoned, I found it to be too salty and found it hard to continue eating it without any starch halfway through. Still pretty delicious though!

Google
3rd visit to this location. I'm a regular at this chain. IMHO, the best fried chicken available. Better than KFC and Popeye's. This one has a hint of cayenne as well. GREAT for orders to go.

Google
Friendly staff and clean premises. The chicken is top notch. Excellent crunch with moist meat. It’s a matter of taste and preference, but I found it towards the salty side. Nonetheless an enjoyable meal. 👍

Google
We ordered 2 chicken strip meals with sides. They were delicious and the staff even offered my wife a taste test first before buying. Great service and the food was tasty 😋. I would recommend this place for a quick puck up for lunch or even dinner.

Google
6:50pm , Maria take our order and being super nice that we ordered more food. Food is super good and we only waited less than 5 mins after they take our order. If you are looking for a good chicken place you cannot go wrong with this place. Also just a heads up this is a To go only place. I highly recommend the Cajun Chicken Tenders. Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10 (Clean inside keep in mind it's a ToGo only place.) Overall 10/10 I will be back again

Yelp
Idk what this place is but it's not Krispy Krunchy. Ordered chicken tenders combo: * Way more expensive than any other location I've been too * Did not look or taste like any other location I've been to * No Cajun flavor * Tasted fishy somehow * Fries not wedges, also absolutely zero flavor * "Biscuit" was a cookie * $25 poorer and heartbroken

Yelp
Pretty good fried chicken at Krispy krunchy at the wharf...newer one ..the one in sunset closed ...two pieces with thigh and drumstick and a biscuit ...pretty good

Yelp
The lady that was selling it was really nice. I was entertained by the big chicken display and I had been wanting to taste this. It had a little kick and that was great. The crunch was there but the inside was a little bit dry. It something that I would buy buy if I am close but if I am far from The place I would not make the trip.
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
The chicken was moist but was lacking in flavor. Mashed potatoes were also bland and the wedge fries were dry.
google avatar

Yelp
Great chicken, fries and biscuit. The lady working was very friendly. Before ordering, she offered a free sample of the chicken.

Yelp
Taking a visitor from Hawaii who insisted that I must also taking her to see the people surfing and windsurfing by the Golden Gate Bridge (and stopping by at Pier 39 to see the sea lions), we walked by this place. Otherwise, No chance will you see me coming near anywhere to the Fisherman's Wharf (unless going to Restaurant Gary Danko, of course). The smell was delicious and the golden visual was pretty close to my imagination to the one I saw on Youtube last night about that certain Peruvian delicacy called Cuy that I've been wanting to try for some time now (roasted guinea pig). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJQRoWDtDIg Even though it's not a guinea pig, At least it's chicken not a guinea pig tastes like chicken. Bit dry but not bad.

Yelp
They scam me in DoorDash I ordered two chicken sandwich and one crispy chicken and they only give me two crispy chicken. They didn't give me no sandwich and they charge me $30 and it's only worth $15 scam people nasty no good

Yelp
Chicken is good but service not. The lady gives different treatment to different race and different gender.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: N/A Overall: I'm always down for this chain! The extended review... Food: Fried Chicken - 5/5 - Very consistent with the other locations I've been to. It's crispy and crunchy for sure! I was super surprised to see this down here as all the other locations I've been to are located at gas stations. Service: 3/5 - Standard service. Ambiance: Not really a place you can sit and eat. Just a take out place.
google avatar

Yelp
Now you know how much I love Krispy Krunchy Chicken. I happened to be going to Pier 39 the other day and low answer behold I see Krispy Krunchy Chicken on the corner of Mason and Jefferson. Delight to my taste buds, wallet, no walking any further. I walk in with the grandkids and order to our heart's delight. Luckily they also haVe corn dogs which you know little kids love as well as Jambalaya Mac cheese Honey butter biscuits Red beans rice, etc. So when at Pier 39 look for this place. You'll be happy you did

Yelp
Covid update: open for takeout or delivery One of the best and tastiest deals to be had in the Wharf. New and clean space. Plus it has a family feel as a franchise with a son & mom or husband & wife team whenever I've been. But to the fried chicken. Well seasoned, juicy on the inside, and crispy on the outside without being overly battered. Yum! Definitely enjoyed the dark meat pieces over tenders. Honey biscuits as an added treat. Lately they've offered $5 deals to drive traffic so it's tasty and great value - go support them!

Yelp
The newest KKC in Fisherman's Wharf is one of the few businesses that is open during this current pandemic crisis. You can order your meal at the counter or from any of the food apps for either delivery or pick up. And all meals are takeout only. Besides, there are no dining area at this location anyway. I was here for a Friday night light dinner/snack. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Tenders and Biscuit meal. For $8.99 +tax, I get four battered and crunchy chicken strips. The chicken strips are fresh and really crunchy. The one biscuit is small, but is really moist with a nice sweet glazed topping. I need to cut down on my carbohydrate and happy with the tiny biscuit. Plus, Popeye's still make a better biscuit than other fried chicken joints. Sounds like a solid meal and a good place to check out? Well, here is my pet-peeve. I am knocking off one star, because the workers were not wearing a mask. But they did wear gloves, which also helps in handling the food. Now it is mandatory for restaurant workers to wear both gloves and mask. I hope the workers do follow the food handling rules, especially now with the current situation.
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
They only had one breast and somehow deemed a single drumstick was an equitable substitution; it was not. While it is comforting food during these unprecedented times, it doesn't compare to fast food fried chicken places like Popeye's. A good option if you're nearby, but not worth a special trip. 8-piece Fried Chicken: I saw them battering the raw chicken, so you know it's freshly made and not some frozen nonsense. The pre-cooked pieces in the warmer bin I got were crispy on the outside and moist inside. The breast seemed particularly large and was definitely the highlight. Decent seasoning, though Popeye's is better. Biscuit: The honey butter soaked parts were really tasty, but the untouched inner core was dry. Which makes me think the unseasoned version of the biscuit is just kinda meh. Apple Frazil: Don't think apples from an orchard, think artificially flavored apple. Like drinking a Jolly Rancher Slurpee. It was actually a good pairing to a fried chicken, but got a bit overwhelming when there was some drink left after the chicken was finished.

Yelp
I don't think anything about the building was up to code. I'm pretty sure the chicken had been sitting there for a while. Mac n cheese tasted like water. Really hoping we don't get food poisoning.

Yelp
Oh man, I just love fried chicken, and a new fried chicken place opened up just down the street from me! Maybe it's time for me to buy some pants with elastic waistbands? I stopped by today for lunch and they were still obviously trying to figure things out. There were only a couple of people in front of me, but it took forever for the lone cashier to take the orders. When it was finally my turn to order, I got a 3 piece dark combo, which consisted of 2 thighs and 1 drum, and a biscuit. ("Combo" just means that it comes with a biscuit - it does not include a side or a drink). I know I'm a weirdo, but I usually like to get some veggies with my lunch, but the closest I could get was a side of beans and rice. As an aside - I really do appreciate being able to get all dark meat. I hate chicken breast. There's no seating - this a to-go only place. No biggie for me, since I live just a couple minutes away. So I took the chicken home, and it was OK. It wasn't particularly Krispy or Krunchy or even tasty for that matter - in fact, the drumstick was a little on the soggy side, but it was OK. Not bad - much better than the Safeway deli fried chicken, but definitely not great. It was mostly lacking in flavor and spicy heat - it didn't taste all that cajun to me. Since I was at home, I took out my bottle of Tabasco and poured it liberally all over the chicken, and that helped quite a bit. If the chicken actually came with a small bottle of Tabasco or Crystal, then maybe it might be a 4 star chicken. The biscuit was also OK - it was strangely sweet, and the beans and rice were also OK.

Yelp
What a great find! While revisiting the Fisherman's Wharf area last week, I stumbled on this place. I ordered the 4 piece dark Krispy Krunchy Chicken. I'm pleasantly surprised on the size of the pieces. Much larger than the 2 major fried chicken establishments and a much better cost. Only $11 for the 4 pieces (2 large legs and thighs) and came with a biscuit. The biscuit was soft and loaded with honey butter. The chicken crust was crunchy, just how I love it. It has a nice spice to it and not greasy at all. The interior of the chicken was moist and tasty. The worker was so friendly and helpful. She is an asset to your company. I will definitely revisit this place.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
The service was great, friendly, helpful. The tenders were juicy and hot. The biscuits were soft and loaded with honey butter. The chicken sandwich however was in the warmer for far too long. The bin on top was soggy. The bottom bun was hard as a rock. All on all its great tasting chicken that looks and feels like real chicken. Another thing is the consistency between other Krispy Krunchy spots. All delicious.

Yelp
The name of restaurant describes it all, the chicken and fries! It's simple, straight to the point, fresh fried chicken and fries. The fries are more like wedges from Safeway or KFC, but better. The 8 piece was more than enough 2 people, hopefully enough for 3-4 people. The Buffalo sauce tasted a little one note but added heat and tang (if you're into it). This location is at Fisherman's Wharf, def worth a try!

Keith B.

Yelp
Grub Hub order with 2 items. One item missing and only the run around on a solution. Restaurant doesn't answer the phone. Eat here at your own risk.

Yelp
It's in the fisherman's wharf area, there were a few homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk but they weren't bothering anyone. I was craving chicken and found Krispy Krunchy Chicken on Yelp I've had their chicken at other locations but this one was the best! It's take out only but that was just fine w me bcuz of my first bite! It was piping hot! Most chicken places serve their chicken warm to hot but this chicken was like right out of the fryer! Very crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, and the honey biscuit was moist and hot as well! The staff was very friendly with a big smile. I felt like she really appreciated my business. I went around 5:30pm so maybe I got a fresh batch for the dinner crowd but bcuz of how hot and delicious it was I will def come back! I had the drumstick and thigh with biscuit. Sorry no pics cuz it was gone n4 I knew it

Yelp
If you have to have chicken fingers around here this is one of the few places. It's pricey for what it is. But it is solid fried chicken.

Yelp
Before my trip to SF, I came across Krispy Krunchy Chicken's Yelp page and bookmarked this business, as I love chicken, I am a fan of chicken, esp. fried chicken, it is my weakness. We stayed near Fisherman's Wharf and this location that just opened up was so close by. When it was finally time to visit, we walked over, which was less than 5 minutes walk. Sadly it was the day we had to check out of our hotel and had to leave for the airport. I wanted to try the fried chicken and didn't get to try their sides and other stuff as we already have bread from a bakery in SF. I went with the 10 pieces of chicken for 12.99. The chicken smelled so good and I couldn't wait to eat it. After checking in and clearing TSA, The other half and I finally had a chance, biting in to that fried chicken was just exactly as the business name, the chicken was Krispy. Krunchy for sure with just the right of amount of cajun spices. We both enjoyed the fried chicken along with the mushroom foccacia bread I purchased. Krispy Krunchy Chicken just opened really close, to Boudin Bakery. The shop is tiny which is only good for take out orders. If I visit SF again and staying in near the Fisherman's Wharf area, I would grab some chicken and walk over to Boudin for some clam chowder then make my own combo meal of fried chicken and chowder. Overall, I am glad I got to try Krispy Krunchy Chicken. I totally recommend if you are staying in the area and love fried chicken that is krispy and krunchy, just as must as I do.

Yelp
Come here if crispy chicken is your jam! I'm usually more of a soft batter type of gal when it comes to my fried chicken but this place is good for crispy fried chicken. They don't offer the softer batter kind. I have yet to try the chicken sandwich only because I am biased and a Chick Fil superfan. We came around 7ish on a Sunday and wanted the 12 piece however they were running out of pieces on display and would have to wait another 20 minutes for a fresh batch. It seemed like mostly wings were left but for the sake of time we just decide to take what was left. The guy was really nice and even threw in some extra pieces and extra fries as well! Like in any other occasion I would almost skip the white meat and go directly for the dark meat aka the thighs. Thighs are so much more flavorful and soft than its white counterparts. Didn't get to try the honey biscuits but they looked glistening in the display!
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
Doesn't look like the place you'd expect the best fried chicken in SF to come from; however, looks are often deceiving. If you want juicy, crunchy, salty, and crispy chicken then look no further. I've been everywhere to find good fried chicken in San Francisco and this is the most satisfying chicken I've come across. I've ordered on doordash 7 times and been in person a couple of times. Consistently delicious.
google avatar

Faizaan M.

Yelp
First of all they forgot our family sized potato wedges, our little baby always wants fries but they forgot it we got this little portion of fries, second the Mac and cheese was basically melted cheese sauce with elbows in it, the chicken was stiff I'd recommend raising canes more hehe

Alexandra S.

Yelp
As a pregnant woman my smell is 10x stronger but it didn't even need to be stronger to get the smell of this delicious chicken and biscuits from the RIU hotel. Me and my husband got 4 piece chicken, biscuits and wedges and a side of gravy it was SO DELICIOUS and the 2 women behind the counter were soo friendly and welcoming. We came back again 2 nights later to get it again before we left San Francisco but unfortunately we were too late as it was closed. MUST TRY if you are in the Fisherman's Wharf area it's absolutely delicious!!
google avatar

Alan B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery through DoorDash. Food arrived on time, and was hot and fresh. The chicken was very crispy! The biscuit was moist and warm. The order arrived on time. I requested butter and honey but instead I received hot save and ketchup. It's possible they don't have butter or honey. It would nice if they could add no charge sauces as a menu option.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here a couple times and it's definitely still krispy and krunchy even with being in a bag! Great go to chicken spot to satisfy a craving. Sides are comparable to KFC, don't expect anything gourmet. Glad to see the business doing well in multiple locations and delivery krispy, not soggy, chicken!
google avatar

Joyce P.

Yelp
This location just makes so much sense!!! We were in line for the Big Bus tours and the smell stood out!! So much that by the time we were wrapping up our tour we remembered this place and said we had to go on our way home. The service was quick and chicken was goood!
google avatar

Alma H.

Yelp
I've ordered here before and it was fine, but got the wrong order tonight. Not the driver's fault but KKC fault. Our ticket was affixed to the wrong bag apparently. Which is not the worst thing in the world, but I hate spending $97 on food and getting about $30 worth of food in return. We ordered about 30 min prior to closing, but this shouldn't be an issue. Giving this place a pass for awhile. YMMV
google avatar

Mel M.

Yelp
Dirty dirty dirty. They don't change their gloves at all. I just saw the lady handle cash on multiple transactions. At first I didn't mind too much because she use tongs to get my chicken. Then I saw her make two chicken sandwiches for other customers using the same gloves she handled cash with. I mean, she actually touch the chicken and the bread with those dirty gloves. Disgusting.
google avatar

Amy -.

Yelp
Open during shelter in place TL;DR - small storefront with the best honey biscuits. I've ordered for delivery and also walked here in person. Their chicken is super moist inside and crunchy on the outside. The two dark pieces I ordered was a lot $5.50, I got a leg and a thigh! So juicy! Their honey biscuit is really crumbly and sweet, though I'm sure it's made with some artificial sweetness or honey. They also have corndogs for those non-chicken folks. The sides are pretty affordable too - like mash potatoes - for a couple bucks.

Keith H.

Yelp
Very good. I got the 3 piece mixed chicken (white and dark meat) It sure was crispy! And meat was moist too. It had a nice flavor and I'm an fried chicken aficionado! If any complaint I'd say a bit on the salter side. They asked me If it was my first time there, so gave me samples to hook me in which bit surely did!
google avatar

Susie Q.

Yelp
I've ordered delivery from here several times and especially more frequently during Shelter In Place. It has been hit or miss, with the chicken tasting exceptionally moist on some days, while on other days they are much drier and extremely salty. Even so though, this is one of my favorite fried chicken places in the City. The pieces of chicken are satisfyingly large, and the honey biscuits are unlike any other. Food is a solid 4 stars, but this review is in regards to my experience today when I came in person to order and pick up. It was my first time actually visiting the physical store, and though I was initially super excited to visit, what resulted was pure disappointment in the lack of professionalism and service that I received. There was no social distancing in place. Additionally, it appeared that a former colleague and friend came to visit the workers, and spent the whole time in there Just hanging out and chatting. When I paid for my order, he even looked at the pay machine and told the cashier in Spanish that my card didn't go through. Definitely nothing wrong with my card, so I asked the cashier to pull up the screen again so that I could enter my info. This nosy friend of theirs was looking over my shoulder, until I had to look at him to back off as I was entering my pin #. Then they were joking in Spanish to each other that I didn't want him looking at me while I was putting in my personal information. Personally, I don't think it's ever okay to talk about customers, especially not when they are standing right there in front of them! Anyway, the cashier then proceeded to give me my order, until I had to nicely remind her that she still needed to give me my slushie drink. She hurriedly made and handed me my drink, and it wasn't until after I had already left the restaurant that I noticed that the cup wasn't even filled all the way. It wasn't expensive or anything, but given that 7-Eleven is right next door... I could have gotten a much better value at that price point. Service inside the store was just so disappointing, next time I'm going to just stick with delivery.
google avatar

Myles R.

Yelp
Definitely disappointed with my order, ordered it through Uber eats and didn't get everything on one order and on the other order the mashed potatoes were ice cold. If you're wanting a late night meal, I highly don't recommend this place. I recommend getting Chinese or Indian.
google avatar

Tom N.

Yelp
Delicious, crunchy, moist amazingly tasty chicken. Fast service from super friendly employees / owners and super fresh every time I swing by to pick up some for an eager quick dinner at home. Sides-wise, the mac and cheese is nothing special, but the honey butter biscuits are as good as they sound. But me, I come here (over and over and over again!) for the awesome chicken. A welcome respite from the touristy options in the area -- it's an awesome new asset to the neighborhood!
google avatar

Mimi z.

Yelp
This place is Amazing! I love their Krispy, moist Chicken and Fries are sooo good. Definitely hits the spot!! The kids love the Corn Dogs and Mac N Cheese. I'm sUre the other items on their menu is just as good. Will come back another time to try.
google avatar

Rodrigo G.

Yelp
The Chicken breast was ok some parts of the skin were way over cooked it was hard to chew and the biscuit was too sweet. The wings were good Some parts of the chicken breast had orange stuff on it idk if it was grease or seasoning but over all I would just only buy the wings next time because the breast did not have enough seasoning and the skin was hard . I know that this location is brand new but make sure to train your employees about your pos system. One of your employees did not know how to do a split payment.
google avatar

Nora B.

Yelp
Really good food and great service! This was my first time and the people who served us gave us samples and was sweet! Give this place a shot you won't regret. The Cajun chicken and drumsticks are good.
google avatar

Sandi L.

Yelp
The chicken is perfectly moist under a crispy crunchy coating. I order delivery and I must say that so many places don't use packaging that keeps the crispiness of their fried foods. That's not the case at Krispy Krunchy Chicken it's always packaged to retain the perfectly seasoned and Krispy moist chicken. Great for those nights you want to stay home and order delivery.
google avatar

Richard V.

Yelp
I don't eat fast food-ever. But I work nearby, and decided to give this place a try, based on a local media story. I had the fried fish, which I thought was pretty amazing, and the chicken sandwich which was pretty good as well. What set this place apart was the the staff. The guy taking my order and sort of expediting was truly friendly and very conscientious. The employees all seemed pretty solid. While I was there it appears that the manager of another location popped by to look at the new place, and the genuine friendly interaction is indicative of a great company culture that starts at the top. As a wharf are employee I can promise this place will have a line out the door all summer!

Simon P.

Yelp
I went to the whole in the wall for take out. I paid $19 for 4 pieces of chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy. There was no mac n cheese. The ladies there were lovely. Unfortunately the food was not. Out the 4 pieces, 2 were ok. The other 2 were inedible. Pure gristle. Felt like they'd been sitting there for days. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal. Sad for a chicken shop. Far too expensive for what I got. giving 2 stars as staff were nice. Should be 1. I'd avoid this place.
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
OMG so bomb! I'm so glad they deliver! this location is near my workplace. I ordered the lunch meal, available on yelp/grub hub which comes with 4 pcs, a side, biscuit and a drink. Girl! let me tell you i got more than 4 pcs. I could not even get to my side which was the red beans and rice. Upon delivery my bag was neat, nothing spilling or sticky and the chicken came in their signature "barn" box. The chicken was moist and flavorful in the inside and real crispy on the outside. Do yourself a favor and try Krispy Krunchy.

Yelp
Oh! My! God! This is the most, the only, the whatever fXXking crazy delicious chicken I have ever tried! After I knew this place where can cook chicken awesome like that It just brings me a giant hope to go through this pandemic period! Well, God cannot brings me the wonderful chicken whenever I want, but he just send me this location where just light up my life in SF! Thank God hahahaha

Yelp
Had a fried chicken craving and saw this on YELP. Great find! When I got there the chicken was hot and ready to go. Took 5 minutes and was my way. Loved the chicken. Breading was light and not oily. Biscuits were good too. Satisfied my fried chicken craving!

Yelp
krispy krunchy chicken is hands down the best fried chicken!! and this particular location is the best! they are fast and efficient, and great customer service. amir was the one who helped me today, and he was very friendly and helpful. i asked what makes this location better, and he said that it is because of service from the heart. i totally agree!

Yelp
Really good Chicken... one of the best! But they used to give dipping sauce for the chicken... now they charge 99¢ per? I ordered an 8pc all dark and asked for honey mustard as I usually do... they said 99¢ each... and only give out for their chicken tenders... it's not like I was asking for extra sauce! They used to ask what sauce you wanted with any chicken order! Also other locations asks you what kind of sauce you like... Man, disappointing!

Kuin B.

Yelp
Place has a bad smell, like "old" reused fry oil. Service is mediocre Prices way too high for quality/quantity of food Will not be back.

Gabby G.

Yelp
We decided to give this place a try on a recent trip to SF. We passed by a couple times and it always seemed busy. We got lucky on our third try. We ordered the family meal which was plenty of food for 5 (3 adults and 2 tween girls). I also ordered a small side of red beans and rice. The chicken and tenders we're really good. Very crispy without being greasy. The potato wedges were also tasty. No one liked the biscuits. They seemed dense like a muffin and the taste of the butter and honey were off. Overall, I'd come back and recommend this to visitors. It's definitely a great deal for the price.
