On the Grid : Kristin Baybars

"Upon arrival you may think Kristen’s shop is closed as the window grates never come down, but look out for the light on and knock on the door. Once invited in, you’ll step back in time and discover the most magical Aladdin’s Cave of doll’s house furniture, toys, board games, marbles, collectables, kites, miniatures and automata. Though be aware, it’s cash only. Kristin is an incredibly friendly soul if you’re considerate of her collection and has some really fascinating stories to tell. Just make sure you close the door quietly!" - Chrissie Macdonald & Andrew Rae

"This store actually has no sign, so you have to look hard. Kristin Baybars, who has run the shop for decades, stocks everything you could ever want for a dollhouse. The front of the store has traditional kids toys and imported dollhouse accessories, but as you venture farther back, you'll find handmade British pieces on display inside kooky old cabinets and quintessentially English townhouses. You'll either leave with a bunch of miniatures or grand plans for a dollhouse of your own, just remember to bring cash as they don't accept cards. Photo: The Small Desk"

Gorgeous, little toy shop with heaps of little toys for babies, toddlers, and olde4 children, as well as a vast selection of doll house furniture, accessories, wallpapers, rugs, and dolls of all kinds. There's so much to see here! It's a magical atmosphere, but there's not a lot of space in this crammed shop, so don't come with a large group all at once. If you're looking for specialty doll house items, you're sure to find them here!

A wonderful shop filled with the most delightful treasures tucked into every nook and cranny, if you love miniatures and are looking for something special then a visit here is a must. Welcoming and knowledgeable David made it a magical afternoon and the time went by far too quickly, Allow yourself at least a couple of hours to look and enjoy ( I spent a good four hours) and be prepared to be amazed. We will most definately go back again.

Saw the BBC news item on this place and had to visit. An Alladins cave for dolls house and miniaturist enthusiasts! The outside belies the treasures inside. Kristen is a lovely lady, with a wealth of stories and knowledge of her craft. My daughter and I spent all day in the shop and only scratched the surface. Can't wait for our next visit!

One of the most incredible place I've had the chance to visit in London. A while back I fell in love with Ron Fuller's toys and stumbled upon this small shop at random. Seeing that they had an incredible Ron Fuller circus, I talked to the owner Kristin and realised she actually knows him. She shared a lot of knowledge about toys, invited us to see the private part of the shop, which is... Absolutely wonderful. This was a few years ago but we often talk about this day with my partner... looking forward to coming back when the everything goes back to normal.

Wow! The most enormous selection of beautiful hand crafted toys. I could've stayed there for hours. There's two sections of miniatures for dolls houses etc, one for British made and the other for imported. The knowledge of the staff is very impressive. They even have automata there, It's also a dolls hospital! and...and...and... Just go and see for yourself. A real treat.

Yelp
Kristin Baybars of Gospel Oak (near Highgate/Hampstead/Tufnell Park) is the best little store few have ever heard of. This is a store of miniatures made by 80 year Kristin. This store is literally a revelation. You will find everything you could imagine in miniature size. There is also a fine selection of places to stick your miniatures, kind of like diorama settings. Kristin's is a place where you will be amazed. Please check this place out..it deserves it.

Yelp
Eccentric and quite wonderful.A gem. I spent about three hours there! Do not miss this shop. You have to knock on the door! There is a cashpoint in the shop next door, (which you will need!) and a pub for reluctant husbands! Check opening times/days on line.

Yelp
June 2011 - I just got back from Krisin Baybars. Amazing shop stocked chockfull of miniatures. There are drawers and drawers of handmade foods. It's a very small shop and can be overwhelming with the amount of items. A friend of mine is doing a London tea shop so I got her some lemon curd, marmalade, Toby mugs, scones, etc. I found some good hats and a miniature dollhouse. Prices are what you would expect for handmade artisan. So I quickly ran through my money. Bring a list and cash because they don't accept a credit card. Gospel Oak is the closest Overground stop (across street). We took the Underground to Kentish Town and took a taxi to the shop.
