"With plastic roses everywhere and a wood-shingled ordering counter, this Washington Heights spot looks like a tiny Barbie cottage—if Barbie were the cute cartoon pig looking out of the fake window on the wall. This whimsically pink spot makes some great food, like a $35 fried feast in the form of their Krunchy Picada tray with chicharron, oregano-infused longaniza, mofongo laden with pork and garlic, and creamy yuca mash. Order ahead for pick-up if you’re short on time. There are a few tables inside, where you can sit and watch music videos, but if it’s a nice day, take your picnic-friendly meal to a chess table near the top of Hightower Park. The chicharron crunches loudly, and the longaniza is a mosaic of fat and oregano. The carnitas sala’ is a little dry, but tastes great—like a chile lime chip. Go for the beautifully bubbly empanadas first. This plus a couple of beers could be the makings of a beautiful afternoon. photo credit: Sonal Shah Krunchy Fongo Under a net of cheese, this mound of mofongo is garlicky bliss, loaded with pork and decorated with a few choice pieces of juicy chicharron. photo credit: Sonal Shah Yuca Mash A bowl of gooey yuca mash, also topped with chicharron, is a very comforting and filling little meal for $7." - Sonal Shah

Now coming from DR there’s hardly places that can compare with food back home if the restaurant is Latino . But this place has an amazing selection, food is flavorful, it truly delicious. Juices not a total fan. But the rest of menu on point , you won’t be disappointed.

I recently decided to try this viral chicharron place for my best friend's birthday, as she specifically requested CHICHARRON for her birthday. I placed my order online in the morning at 11:42 am, and selected a pick-up time window between 6:10 pm and 6:20 pm since I was coming straight from work. I paid up front, hoping everything would be ready when I got there. Unfortunately, I arrived at 6:35 pm and found a line out the door. Not a huge issue, though I didn't mind initially. When I spoke to an employee to let her know I was there for a pre-ordered pickup, she asked for my name and told me to wait a few minutes. However, something felt off, and I decided to stay in line just in case. By the time it was my turn, I found out my order wasn't ready yet, despite having placed it hours earlier. I ended up waiting another 15-20 minutes. While I was waiting, the lady behind me started chatting with me, and the employee at the register assumed we were together and skipped her when her turn came up. It was a bit awkward when the woman found out the wait for empanadas was 45 minutes! That's tough, especially when you already waited long and got your turn skipped. It seemed like they weren't quite prepared for the viral attention they had gotten, and I think they need to step up their game to handle the volume. On the bright side, the food was fantastic! I ordered the fried pork belly, extra fried yucca, and the "La Krunchy Picada" platter, and everything was delicious. The birthday girl and everyone else at the party liked it. Despite the frustrating service experience, the food was good. The place itself is small but beautifully decorated and the pink goes right on with the theme. I think they have a lot of potential, but if they want to keep up with the viral hype, they'll need to better manage their orders and wait times. Overall, while the service was a letdown, the food was good. I don't know if I`ll be coming back again, maybe after the hype wears off I`ll give them another try.

The overall experience was just okay. The food was good but the service could have been better. The lady was very disengaged and got our order wrong. The atmosphere was nice and I’m not going to knock the fact that it was a small space. They made good use of the space but I wish they had slightly larger tables for the size of plates that they bring out. The music was at a good volume since I could still carry conversations, which was nice. I didn’t mind the wait for the food and again it was fine for the price point. I would recommend and probably go again but for different reasons.

I was really eager to try this spot after reading all the reviews. The food was good, but I was hoping for a bit more. It was presented nicely, though. The waitress was friendly and welcoming. Plus, the decor was lovely and the place was spotless.

Google
This place might be another example of a Tik Tok hype. Half of our chicharon was dry and cold, the other half juicy and hot. Our tostones were hard as if they'd been premade and then left to sit. Everything else was okay. Overall, you can say there's much better fritura places in the neighborhood.

Google
I’ve been dying to try this place for quite some time, but I was extremely disappointed. They took forever. The Chicharon was dry. The Yuka mash didn’t have Much seasoning. The juices were extremely sour tacos tasted like old tortillas. Sorry, definitely do not recommend

Google
The food is still great, but it looks like they've reduced their portion sizes this summer. The empanadas and fries are noticeably smaller now. It seems like there might be new management, and honestly, the prices don’t match the portions anymore. The pastelitos, in particular, are tiny and almost laughable.

Owners are super friendly, we came from Dallas after seeing this on social media, this was our first stop after the airport and when I say I’m gonna try and stop by before we go home! Food is beyond words! We wore our stretchy pants and I did my happy food dance! Absolutely AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE!

Yelp
Me encantó el sazón de su chicharrón y sin nada de grasa lo recomiendo al 100% , ya he comprado 2 veces y no me arrepiento

Yelp
Nice food but slow service. They need help in the kitchen . Good for to go. The employees are very friendly!

Yelp
Stopped by after an event in the area. The place is small and clean. I got the Krunchy bag which is Doritos with chopped up chicharrones, pico, cream, cheese. Soooo good. The chicharrones were crunchy even with all the toppings and they squeezed the limón on the chicharrones which I love. I also ordered yucca fries but they were not what I was expecting and weren't good in my opinion. However it took the worker a while to come to the front and the service was superrrr slow I'm sure it's because there was only one person cooking everything so they definitely need a second person. My friend got the tacos she said they were good and packed with chicharrones. The food is good but the service not so much.

Yelp
while visiting the neighborhood, i remember seeing this place on IG, had a hard time finding it, very small location, almost reminded me of a Chinese takeout, but smaller. when i walked in has like one table, one high top and a few stools.... Anyway, i think i had high expectations, and i was slightly disappointed. When i walk in the staff is behind bullet proof glass (empanadas must be a high-ticket item) lol. Very small menu which is good...So i placed an order of the Chicharon empanadas, they are freshly fried when ordered. When i got my order, i thought i was getting "PUNKED", they were mini and when i say mini, i mean mini!! the filling was ok, it had a lot of fat, and the dough wrapper was ok. so would i come again??, probably not. So, if you are really hungry, give it a pass. Too many good spots in the heights, to focus on this one. Anyway, wish you guys the best of luck!!

Yelp
The food is fresh, hot, excellent, amazing. The service is mediocre, but friendly. Why, why, no matter how long I order, my food is never ready? I see other people picking up orders every time I come here. Is there a secret code word? It's a serious problem because I'm always working when I come here. Restaurant is super attractive clean and busy.I love the decor

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by Krunchy Cueritos! I ordered via Grubhub for pickup and the food was ready within the promised time. Upon arriving, the first thing I noticed was that there was no smell of super fried food. That was a good sign! Premises looked clean and the staff was nice. I ordered the yummy pork belly tacos and the "empanadas" with pork belly and cheese. The kind they sell I refer to as "pastelito"... but this tends to be a controversial topic in Latinx communities so I'll leave it at that. The amount of pork in the tacos was unexpected and amazing! Value was A+ for the cost-- $11 for 3. The non-traditional "tortilla" was sturdy so it made for a tougher bite with all of the fixings. I did love that the shell did not disintegrate; the contents were held in nicely. There was a great mix of actual crunchy cueritos aka skin (the best part!) and pork pieces with minimal fat inside. I can't tell you what the orange sauce was, but there was a lot of it and a bunch on the side. Thankfully, it was very mild so I didn't mind it. After eating two tacos and one empanada (the order brought 2 for $4), I was so full I felt defeated. I ended up having the second empanada for dinner and popped in the third taco in the air fryer the next day for lunch and it was as good as new. The second best part is that I had no belly issues after all that pork on pork. That solidified the five star rating for me. I look forward to going back and trying their yuca mash.

Yelp
Food was not great besides the fact that I ordered online for 12:15 pick up when I got there I was told they open at 12 and would have to wait 30 minutes which ended up being like an hour. Not going back there again. No customer service and rude. Adjust your ordering time so people could place an order to pick up when ready

Yelp
¡Altamente recomendado!

Yelp
Can't get enough of this place! Today I got some empanadas with pork belly and carnitas. All was superb. Tostones (fried plantain) we're also great. Had to wait a little for my order, because they prep your food fresh and express. Make sure you get their spicy jalapeño sauce... it's amazing! Next time I'll probably call before picking up my food. Go and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Checked out this spot with my wife earlier today. I was blown away because I was just saying the other day that I have not had a valid monfongo in a while. The mofongo that I have been craving was one with a deep yet balance taste of garlic, crunchy chicharon and delicious shredded pork in the inside. I got just that and more ! The platanos were smashed to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The garlic was perfect ; the crunch of the chicarrón was magical as well! Did I mention that it also had longaniza on the inside? And that it was topped with delicious good quality melted mozzarella? The mofongo was also served with a "Dominican" pico de Gallo with Green and Red Peppers instead of tomatos and it was the perfect hint of freshness to go along side the very hearty and rich mofongo. We also had the chicharon empanadas with cheese. Flavorful pork and quality cheese. What is took the experience over the top was the service ! The young lady who took care of us was beyond hospitable. She was attentive and ensured that we enjoyed our stay. They also take cards and Apple Pay another huge plus! Small place, but highly recommended!

Yelp
So good... the pork belly was so crunchy and fatty... the sauce works so well with the pork belly

Yelp
I tried getting some food from here a few times and every time i walk in to order its a hour and half to two hour wait for a pick up that' ridiculous I see dis spot won't last long in duck man if service keep on like this

Kiara R.

Yelp
I came from far to come try out their empanadas mind you it was right when they opened and I know things go a bit slow when a business opens. They told me that they didn't have any empanadas prepared that it would take 30min if I wanted to wait. I said ok because I came for them. Instead of preparing my order the lady proceeds to fill empanadas for the day and I am still waiting here 50 min later and I still don't have empanadas. These might be great empanadas idk because I haven't received my order yet but customer service and the business being prepared to receive customers really lacks.

Katy W.

Yelp
Ordered because they had a two for one deal on a lot of the menu items. Definitely the best mofongo I've had in the heights hands down. I also had an order of sweet potato fries that were amazing. Everything was fresh and definitely prepared with care. I look forward to ordering from them again
